still i think the one of the more fun differences drawn between illario and lucanis that was lost would be illario's ability to endear himself to others but serious lack of empathy, vs. lucanis' (self perceived) inability to be charming but how much he cares. it's interesting that the game has gone with the "lucanis' ability vs illario's lack thereof" because i think illario being the dellamorte 'best in show dog' vs. lucanis' attack dog would have made me so unwell.

lucanis is... awkward. he's not unlikable, because he is usually very polite, but he doesn't speak much and only seems to care about the other dellamortes. he once sent viago de riva a knife with no note (who knows what he could have meant by this). he does what caterina asks of him, and by his own admission, cannot say no to her. he is a dramatic and prolific killer, and that makes how untouchable he is even worse.

and the crows like illario, sure, AND he's a good assassin! he's even a good crow! he's so good that he can make lucanis smile, and so he is the charming, sociable one. he's the one that stays in treviso and can be relied upon to care, illario's even the one people prefer over caterina and lucanis!

but illario is decoration. he's the prize poodle, and even if poodles were bred to be working dogs, nobody will ever pick him to protect the house over the german shepherd that regularly mauls intruders. anyways the analogy is getting away from me. the point i'm trying to make is that i want illario to have a different kind of jealousy/hatred that's not just over 'being bad at killing' but also an arrogant loathing for everyone around him that is getting harder to hide, because they've forgotten he can bite and is just itching to rip someone's jugular out. illario is very good at hiding his family resemblance to caterina, while lucanis suffers under his grandmother's, and his own, reputation.

One drink and straight to bed, he vowed to himself.

“A water?” The barman scoffed. “The poor man’s choice, I see.”

Wally chuckled. “The choice of a man who just got here from a trip longer than you can imagine. D’ya got any rooms free up in this place or?”

The barman’s face softened, and he laughed as he went to grab a glass of water. Returning, he leaned in as he handed Wally his drinks. “We do, but tell me, have you ever been here before?”

A blush rose up his cheeks as Wally shook his head. “To be perfectly honest, I’m not even sure where ‘here’ is,” he laughed awkwardly. He suddenly felt very looked at.

“Curious.” The man pulled back, then nodded to himself. “Gotham usually doesn’t show herself to people who haven’t been here before, well, unless she has plans for you. Or so they say.”

“Gotham?” Wally blurted out, eyes widened in shock. “I can’t believe I’m actually here.” He laughed, not because he was happy, but he couldn’t help himself from laughing at his own stupidity. Of course, with all the weirdness going on around here, how didn’t he realize this sooner?

He did it. He found the no-man’s-land that was particularly starting to look like an any-man’s-land to him. The place he had been looking for all along.

“You know, there’s some rumors about-” The bartender started, then stopped dead in his sentence and looked up behind Wally. Right then, Wally felt two, strong hands clasp onto his shoulders.

“You’re in my seat.” A deep, bouldering voice said, the two goons behind him snickering loudly.

Wally looked around him and noticed the two chairs besides him had indeed come up empty. Still, he shrugged and tipped his drink back. “And I was having a really good conversation.” He shot back, not getting off the chair. “Please, do continue.”

He heard a couple “Ooh”’s and “Shit”’s and snickers behind him as the saloon fell silent. All eyes fell on him, or well, them, as Wally shrugged the hands off his shoulders and leaned forward.

“Funny, kid.” The man all but growled. The bottle in his hand -some dirt cheap brand of beer, Wally guessed- came into his view as Wally skillfully -although accidentally- dodged the bottle when he turned the bar chair around. The glass made a painful shattering noise as it came into contact with the edge of the bar, sending shards everywhere.

His attacker staggered back, the intoxication visible in how he tripped rather gracefully against one of his back-up buddies. Immediately, everyone at the bar shot up from their seats and started screaming. Some people saw this as the perfect time to throw some punches around, and Wally winced as he heard the rough sound of a cracking bone right next to him.

It all happened in the blink of an eye, the way this bar fight came to be, but now everyone was in on it. Everyone, except for Wally. Shit, had he really just started this? He frantically looked around, hoping to spot a way out of this mess he had so swiftly created. Hells, he hadn’t even been here for over ten minutes and he already-

A hand slipped around his wrist, and the strong grip pulled him out of his thoughts as fast as he was pulled out of the saloon. When the cold night’s air pushed his hair out of his eyes, his mind cleared. Loud screams and thuds against the walls and floors, although a bit more muted now, made him look at one of the windows.

What just happened?

“You’re really quite something, y’know?” An amused, cocky voice startled him fully away from whatever was happening inside the saloon now, and he traced his eyes to the figure in front of him.

grim has been pestering me but we just came inside from walk, he just got dinner, he just got new water, and he didnt really want to play. so i said "what do you want?" and i listed all those things we did and he stood there and looked at me. and then i said, "are your ears bothering you?" and he dipped his head down on one side and sort of pulled one ear back, and it was the ear that i noticed was bugging him earlier, so i said "okay im going to get ear medicine" and he patiently lay down on the floor and let me put ear medicine in and massage but it must have really been sensitive because he got up a lot sooner than he usually does and had to shake it out. then he got a snack for being good

it's possible he may have learned what "ear" means through sheer repetition. i talk to him a lot using repetitive words and phrases while we are doing associated activities, so he tends to pick up associations quickly even if i'm not drilling him formally. he also understands that even though ear medicine is unpleasant, he gets snacks afterwards and also that if he lets me clean his ears for him i will scratch the itches at the same time and he will feel better afterwards. he learned all this through very patient cooperation = snacks and praise training.

i do really recommend everyone who has cats or dogs that get itchy or infected or just dirty ears buy a bottle of Epiotic to have at home and do an ear rinse every few weeks. if you put oil or hydrogen peroxide or water or any other "home recipe" in your dog's ears it will probably make things worse, please do not do it. vets get patients ALL THE TIME who have owners that tried to clean their ears with coconut oil or vinegar. please dont. just buy the veterinary ear cleaner. it's the same stuff the vets are going to use at the office, and it'll prevent a lot of early-warning "itching and head shaking" type irritations from progressing into actual infections. the wet cotton ball method is probably the easiest to do at home and least annoying to the pet and for gods sake start training them BEFORE they get an ear infection and dont scare or restrain them or it'll take forever to regain the lost ground. if you approach this correctly you will never need to fight your dog for an ear cleaning. there are probably lots of cooperative training instruction videos on this specific issue so go check those out if youre not sure what to do. "force-free training" is another good search term

i do! honestly not a lot, though. i didn't expect so many people to like the AU so much

there is a little story line of Lal and Molly being friends! it's almost all i've thought about for the AU actually... before the O'Brien family moved to ds9, i think Data and Keiko bonded over being one of the only few with little kids in the building, so they hung out a LOT. imagine Keiko and Data gossiping at the little tea party their daughters are throwing??? this still happens once the O'Briens move ofc but sadly not as much

then there's also the case of Picard and Q. Picard is the headmaster of the college that Data goes to (where he gets a really big deal off on his tuition because Dr. Soong was an alumnus at the school or something? i dunno), and he's this long-suffering guy who comes home after a long day at work, just wanting to watch some old horse film he has re-watched to the point the VHS has worn through, and then every so often Q is just there, lounging on the couch in his underwear and a frilly robe. like Q is not a good roommate (he's LOUD and ANNOYING and LOVES invading Picard's personal space), but that doesn't matter because he's hardly ever even there. I like to think that he's an actor in this AU, but specifically local community theater sort of actor and he will never just tell anyone he acts. he'll tell them that he's whatever his current character is. which is why Picard is under the assumption that Q is a lawyer (to be fair he did go to law school, but he dropped out to do his other passion instead). in turn, Q is under the impression that they are both deeply in love with each other (Picard cannot stand the man)

oh, and also!! in this AU, Riker and Worf are both personal trainers and that's how they met :) i just think them working together and helping various people out right beside each other is really cute. Riker would be the kind of guy to just be really enthusiastic and supportive to his clients while Worf would just yell with them as they are dying from exhaustion to hype them up so they can keep going
