Thank you lovely!! I love you too!! That's so sweet <3 tbh I usually think about them more in a college setting, or sometimes right out of college at whatever job they're doing. I have a lot of fun fantasizing about what their life could be like in the future, so these are made more with that setting in mind, but I'm sure some could be taken as present time situations!

I'm back-hugger!Mike's #1 fan, so a few of those to start: When it's cold out Mike will walk behind Will and wrap his arms around him to stick his hands in his pockets to get warm/keep Will's hands warm, forcing them to waddle along instead of actually getting out of the cold weather.

When they sit on the couch Will's sitting in front of Mike, back against his chest, and Mike's got his hands down the collar of his shirt, other hand up the bottom of his sweatshirt, legs wrapped around his waist, feet resting in Will's lap, just cuddling the absolute hell out of him

When they're at the grocery store they BOTH push the cart because Will's there to get shit done and Mike can't help but loom over him and cuddle up to "help" him push

I think they both develop a need for glasses eventually. Artist/writers who don't need glasses are performing witchcraft imo I think Mike probably needs glasses in general and just refuses to wear them most of the time. If he's super sleepy he might pop them on to read at night. Whereas Will probably is farsighted and chooses to wear them when painting to make sure it comes out correct, but otherwise also ignores them. Will's probably the "squinting at the ingredients label" kinda guy. You know the one. Mike's the, "I JUST had them!!" glasses lost on the top of his head kind of guy. You know that one too, I'm sure.

Mike's a heavy sleeper, Will's a light sleeper. Mike's a starfish, for sure. I think Mike's the big spoon most of the time, except when he's starfishing, then either Will is laying flat on his back, an arm and a leg from Mike draped over him, or he's just starfished right on top of Mike lmao If Mike's on his back obvs Will is cuddled up to his side. Will's the blanket hog. Mike's a furnace when he sleeps. It evens out.

Once they start saying "I love you" they say it no less than 100 times a day that's a fact and I take no criticism

Sometimes their date nights are just them getting chocolate wasted and having a movie marathon. So the usual hangout day, but now they get to make out lmao

I like the hc where Will learns how to braid hair from El, and he braids Mike's hair. Short or long, it's just something to fiddle with, and be creative with, and I think it'd make Mike absolutely melt to be doted on like that, plus it feels nice.

Will's art is everywhere, covering the walls, the counters/tables with framed pieces, paints + pens + sketchbooks absolutely litter the house. He makes random stuff to decorate for Halloween/Christmas etc. like wreaths and garland and helps El make kitschy trinkets figurines to decorate her apartment with! Mike's writing is also everywhere, papers pinned to bulletin boards, books stacked next to his desk, work briefcase overflowing. No less than three draws open in his filing cabinet at any one time, half of the folders pulled out and scattered on the floor/on top of the cabinet.

They definitely make a comic together. Whether that comic gets published or not is up in the air, but they definitely at least make it

Mike prefers to listen to his music with headphones on, even though Will sneaks up on him from behind and startles him 99% of the times he wears them. Will prefers to listen to his record player. They get noise complaints in their apartment and Mike sneakily slips outside without Will knowing to kindly tell them to kick rocks <3 His boy needs his rock and roll time.

Neither one of them knows how to cook, but they have the spirit! Usually results in burnt food and takeout from the local deli or fast food joint, but that's ok too.

I love the idea of Will having a pierced earlobe, and Mike getting some kind of cartilage piercing. That one might just be my bias to Mike's lil ear tips peaking out of his hair. Idk it's just precious to me and I think it would suit him. A little rebellious but nothing too crazy. His mom would still probably have a fit, though.

Every time they go to sit down somewhere Mike does the pulling a chair closer with his foot thing like Patrick does to Art in Challengers

Mike often wears a layer extra than he needs during the winter because Will insists he's "not even cold!!" as a just in case thing (almost always needed <3) "Can I have your jacket?" "Sure <33" "I'm not cold >:| you just look hot" 'Thank you ;)" "Not what I meant... but accurate." ":0 <33"

PART 2: Outside the Circle Edition

Hiii we're back, I slept and now my hair is bleached. The events are unrelated, but imagine if they weren't. Let's continue <3 This one might be a bit more controversial than the last one, because unlike with the wizard x wizard ships, there are certain ones that I do dislike this time around. I'm not sure to what extent I've said some of these things before, I used to be kinda scared of. Having opinions. It be like that sometimes idk

I'm gonna start with some Black Circle x Major fairy thoughts, because I have those! There's some interesting ones!!

Sibylla x Gantlos has some incredible art, genuinely adorable. I don't mind them at all. Actually I think I've seen Sibylla with a couple of them, but her and Gantlos >> imo. Nebula has been shipped as well, I remember at least Ogron x Nebula and Duman x Nebula, but there might be more idk. It sure is interesting, can't deny that, especially depending on when the relationship happens. Ig that'd be the case with all wizard x terrestrial fairy ships though- There are way more combinations than I'm listing rn, but I just wanna say. Making Anagan specifically someone's ex. Would be extremely funny to me. Bonus points if it's Diana.

Moving on to wizards x specialists. Those have entered my peripheral a couple of times.

I've come across Ogron x Helia, like once. Doesn't do anything for me, but if we're asking what I know? There you go. Add it to the list ig. There's also Riven x Duman (duriven), some of their art serves cunt fr, it has no right to do that. But I once had a joke conversation with someone about them sharing a dad and now I think about that sometimes when the topic of them comes up. Maybe they could have a funny friendship, but I haven't consumed any Riven content in a hot minute so who knows. Another one I actually have something to say about is Anagan x Duman x Timmy?? Terrorised by both of them the whole season, which isn't the dealbreaker, but. I already made this joke in the previous part idc Duman and Anagan really pulled a "My boyfriend and I love your vibe fr" on his ass, that's what this feels like. Intrigued! Timmy’s gonna get eaten alive though. Poor guy.

Anyway! I'm generally not the biggest fan of shipping them with specialists, maybe I just don't know enough idk- However. I cannot move on without mentioning. The dreaded Nabu x Duman (naman). Now, I don't remember who started it, not counting the fics that already existed, but I know who has been actively encouraging and enjoying this in my own social circle. So really it's her fault. The ship is funny to me, I can't say it's not. Just something about Duman going "I'd love a man that could destroy me. Like just straight up kill me lol." and it being TRUE, because mind you, Nabu killing him is a vital part of this ship. It's so stupid fr. 2/10 I do recommend.

Next is the big one. Black Circle x Winx. Ngl I struggle to keep track of all the combinations I've seen at this point, also fear having to make a part 3 so I'm just gonna. Speedrun through a couple.

Least offensive, so to say, is probably Flora x Anagan (floranagan?). I don't ship it, but I get why others might! Flora x Ogron (flogron??) has a fair bit of stuff as well, that one I get slightly less, but Flora slay ig? I don't really like any of Musa's ships, I know she at least has Musa x Gantlos and Musa x Duman, but eh. They're not for me. Neither is Duman x Tecna, I think about that combination sometimes. Also legally cannot move on without at least mentioning Stella x Duman (dumella). Duman gets around for REAL. Still interesting as a duo, but in terms of shipping I could really take or leave them. They're fine, but I'm sticking with a platonic route if any at all.

Most of these I'm just. Not the biggest fan of. Wouldn't say I'm a straight up hater, but you're probably never gonna see content of it from me, y'know??

What I am a hater of, a proud hater, is Ogron x Roxy. Some people say the winx are too young, that's fair, sure- But Roxy?? That is a CONFIRMED teenage girl. Shipped with a facial-hair-having man. At least an adult, possibly centuries old. Same goes for Roxy x Duman as well btw, the points still apply, minus the facial hair. Not a fan at all. It's a shame too, because there's plenty of fun dynamics you can try out with them that don't involve romance. Actually that goes for a lot of Black Circle x whoever outside the Circle ships.

Enter stage left, Black circle x other villains.

Starting off with the Trix, and kinda speedrunning them too, a lot of their ships I’d prefer to keep platonic as well, I think that could be fun. Don’t really get where Ogron x Stormy came from, they’re like the least likely duo to me. Maybe that’s the appeal, maybe I should brush up on my Trix knowledge. Darcy could probably have some fun dynamics as well, but again, not necessarily in a romantic way. I’ve seen her pull both Anagan and Duman though, go off bestie. Actually so has Stormy. At the same time. Icy’s ships are kinda meh to me in this, I’ve seen a couple, they just don’t really click for me. They should all hang out though, the general collab potential isn’t lost on me.

Next up! Valtor. Lots of people out here making them fight, which, valid!! But have you considered. All of them getting brunch. The Black Circle inviting Valtor over for tea. Give the man some wizard friends. Valtor x Ogron is kinda fun, but they lowkey strike me as a couple that would never last long term. If that makes sense. Public apology for Valtor x Duman (dumaltor) btw. One day I’ll explain how that happened and my involvement. Pinky promise, I still have a ship bingo to bring back so I’ll do it there.

Dishonourable mention to ships with Kalshara. Sort of honourable mention to Ogron x Jason, not a villain ship but idk where else to put it. Brought up by a friend, they’re facial hair besties, it’s fun and silly.

do you have any advice on how to price comms in flight rising? I think i'm underpricing a lot right now

Oh boy, long post incoming. I obviously don't know your art/where you live/current prices so I'll try to apprach this based on how I price my work, and touching a bit on what to expect. Gonna make this a more generalised commission pricing post because I've seen this come up a lot.

Tl;dr version = Hourly rate (always above national minimum) + time it takes you on average + extra time calculated outside of pure drawing time + taxes

I personally price commissions on FR the same way I price coms/work anywhere else. For commissions I use flatrates which are in turn based on my hourly. Imo if you're doing FRC coms I'd ALWAYS price higher for gems/tr than for IRLC since their usage is confined to on-site. (I do cheapo FRC coms here and there for stuff like foddart too but it's with the explicit understanding that this is NOT a regular transaction. I would not recommend this for a long-term commission shop.) So for FRC coms I'd convert my standard IRLC price + FRC "tax". How much do I value gems/tr over actual IRL goods etc.

My studio hourly usually ranges from 25$ to 30$ but since most commissions are non-commercial work I stick to a 20$/h range for them. I like doing them and I still want my coms to be accessible to people, so I don't mind a small cut (drawing dragons is fun). So if say... a bust on average takes me about an hour and a half the strictest estimate would be 30$ + taxes. But you want to incorporate the possibility of complicated designs, taking longer for polish/make sure the work is up to your standards, reference gathering, small changes and client communication (transaction fees as well when applicable), so it's always good to leave breathing room. (I usually estimate at least another 40 minutes. It honestly ends up taking much longer most of the time. I've had coms take me 10+ hours longer than my priced estimate because I got too ambitious/excited with the illustration, don't be me.)

Now of course all of this stuff depends on your hourly rate too which is honestly a big debate in and on itself. I think the general commissioner audience is used to significantly lower rates than the industry side might. My main income comes from freelancing, where my rate is considered low end. Outside of Illustration, which is vastly underpayed, most designers and creative freelancers will usually have an hourly rate that ranges from 40-100$/h. 20-25$ is considered entry level. My personal recommendation would be to not go lower than 15-20/h if you're doing commissions professionally, even if you live in a place where that is considered a fairly high hourly wage. If you're still a student or your art doesn't really sell yet at those price ranges because of inexperience I think it'd be better to invest in practicing your fundamentals instead and do other work in the meantime. (Or find another platform! Might be an audience issue and not a skill one!)

Unfortunately most people doing coms (including myself) ARE underpricing. I've seen people that would be senior artists in a company if they were doing concept art instead have similar prices to mine, which is ridiculous. (The average mid level concept artist in-house makes 65k/y. People doing coms at the same skillrange often make >20k/y) But to some degree that is kind of inescapable because of how many other people you are competing with. So I don't doubt one bit that you are underpricing already. Illustrators and commission artists are vastly underpayed which means the average audience is conditioned to significantly lower prices.

Thankfully, specifically on FR from my experience the quality of commissioners you'll get is really high. I'm still not sure if you could get away with strictly fairly priced coms, unless you're very popular/your art is super in demand. But other than that, I do payment upon art delivery and have never had issues with a client except once. Communication/references/respect etc are also really good and folks tend to be very understanding and patient.

Be aware that the audience does get smaller the more fairly you price your stuff. I've kinda noticed that the folks commissioning me tend to be from a smaller pool of people that are also the ones commissioning the other artists with a similar skill level on FR that do IRLC coms. So a small pool of regular commissioners + other really skilled or better than you folks that are also fairly accessible/cheap by industry standards. You start seeing a lot of the same artist names pop up when you scroll down in the dragon's bio for references. You will probably not consistently fill all your slots but your clients will most likely end up being trustworthy/reliable and occasionally repeat customers. (Not surprisingly a lot of them are fellow artists/creatives too, y'all know the pain of the grind lol)

I wish you the best, anon. Sorry for kinda hijacking your question to go in-depth with this lol. I upped my prices a few months ago too and thankfully didn't see a decline in clients even if unfortunately I'm still underpricing. Commissions are just a tough game in general. I hope you'll be compensated fairly! If art is your main gig or you're planning on making it your full-time job, definitely look into freelancing instead long term. It's still tough but at least your rates will be much more acceptable. Take care and good luck!

(P.S. In case you're not paying taxes from commissions yet, check with an accountant if you're over the declare threshold. Different countries have different rules for this. If art is your main source of income you almost definitely have to essentially open a business in most places.)

In terms of recommendations, The 2¢ Show is good album if you want to know how they used to sound, and 1896 is a great album for how they sound now. Mk III is a perfect in-between point IMO. Steam World Heist music is very different and has just about no in-lore relation to the actual band, but you can listen to that if you don't want to worry about lore.

With every album, their musical style evolves, so don't expect the same thing every time!

One of my personal favorite song is Eat Your Heart, which was the song to draw me in, but Honeybee and Brass goggles are their most popular songs. In general though, I think I'll Rust With You and Over the Moon are the best songs to start with if you're trying to determine their overall sound.

Unless you care more about the lore than the music, I wouldn’t recommend jumping into the lore just yet. There's quite a lot to take in, and keeping up with it is not easy considering their lore extends beyond their music.

It’s a bit of a strange thing because a good chunk of their songs have a plot and a good chunk of their songs do not!

The first three albums (Album One, The 2¢ Show, and Mk III) aren’t too heavy on lore. If there is lore, then it's about the characters you should already know (The main robots). So there’s not a lot you need to catch up on.

Everything past The Vice Quadrant (Quintessential and 1896) isn't too explicit as to what's going on in the lore. The last song of both albums give you a bit of a surprise as if to say, "the lore is still relevant" but you don't have to worry too much on understanding it right away.

The Vice Quadrant is extremely lore-heavy, and there are a lot of details left out of the songs that are meant to be found elsewhere. I've found that a lot of people don't like VQ right away because it can be very confusing. I wasn't a huge fan until I started to really understand the lore, and now I love that album.

The Seventh is coming up, which we don't know a lot about, but considering the fact that the band is trying not to "spoil" what the album's about, it's probably lore-heavy as well. So be prepared if you decide to stick around!

The Cavalcadium - Essentially a very elaborate way to make all fan characters canon. I don't recommend getting into this one until later down the line. It's very complicated, and is more intended for FAN fans than it is for casual enjoyers. [x]

SPG fans are there best albums/best songs/best places to start? I've poked around on the wiki a bit and there definitely seems to be a lot of Plot but I don't know how much that means about whether or not things need to be listened to in order. How does one listen to this?

i haven’t actually been following it much (kinda forgor honestly) so i don’t know if they announced the op earlier but i was genuinely shocked it wasn’t a lum no love song remake. actually kinda glad it’s not? they did reference it in the bgm a couple times though. speaking of the op i really like the animated rumiko takahashi art too, and a shoutout to the nes game? split second of the gameboy game???

this also might be the best a modern rumiko takahashi series has looked. her art never really translated well into the digital age imo, and the newer uy stuff in particular always looked off to me. but i actually don’t hate this!

i like sumire uesaka but as lum… i dunno. i prefer it to someone just doing a pale imitation though, it seems like overall they’re trying to not just live in the shadow of the original which is nice. but it’s weird. it’s also weird to hear ataru’s dad and be like oh. that’s ataru

despite urusei yatsura’s iconic status it’s easy to forget that the series itself is uh fuckin stupid lol, there’s been 40 years (!) of “dumb lecherous guy gets beat up by girls” shows inspired by it so i wonder how modern audiences will respond

on a related note i’m not sure if they’re modernizing it at all? the op’s got smartphones and wotagei and stuff but the show itself looks pretty much unchanged. i kinda like the idea of lum having modern technology but the rest of the world just being the 80s

bgm is a weak point though, a minor gripe and one i have with a lot of modern anime but i’ve always loved fumitaka anzai’s work in particular, is uy a weird choice for a favorite anime bgm? this is pretty unremarkable though, i wish they’d at least use some retro synths or somethin

46 episodes is a bit of a commitment but it’s been nearly 15 years since i watched the early uy episodes and i’ve never read the manga so i think i'm interested enough to stick around. i wanna see miyuki sawashiro as sakura too and of course fumi hirano, the true test is megane though, he’s in the op but apparently a voice actor hasn’t been named yet? i don’t know how anyone could possibly compare to shigeru chiba, it’d be really funny if they just kept him lol, he is still doin stuff. also i’m not really a sakuga buff so i don’t know what to expect from the animation but i’m sure it won’t have the same manic energy as the original. could still be fun tho

also this is more just about anime in general, i haven’t watched any new series recently so maybe this has been a thing for a while but it’s funny how like every op/ed is trying to sound like yoasobi now, with gundam i was like lol wow they’re really goin for that yoasobi sound who did this… oh

Because I'm bored and it's almost the Christmas season I thought I might rank the John Lewis Christmas adverts over the last few years. For anyone who doesn't know John Lewis is a pretty big department store in the UK and its kinda a Christmas tradition that they release these fairly elaborate Christmas adverts every year.

I know this is just capitalist pandering and I'm ultimately playing into systems which are destroying the world and meaning of holidays.... anyway.

The 2012 advert is pretty good, people really like this one apparently and while it's a nice simple message it's too vague for me. I don't really feel anything out of watching it and the song isn't that good imo. 5/10

2013 is a tough one, on the one hand the designs are wonderful and Lilly Allen is an icon. Looking at the behind the scenes I realised that this at least partially animated by stop motion bur I dunno, something about this one still just doesn't click for me. I do like the whole message of sticking together despite differences but as a whole it's not really my favourite 6/10

I love Monty the penguin so much but the song isn't that good and just feels a tad off hut otherwise pretty great. I felt this penguins need to feel togetherness with another on a very deep level but the thing with the toys at the end just kind of doesn't click for me. 5/10

FINALLY! The reason I have been obsessed with these adverts for almost a decade now. Instant classic, instant tears, song is perfect, message is good, overall vibe is cute. I go feral for the bit where the party sound cuts out and the old man is all alone and then it comes back when he gets the telescope. 2015 is flawless, genuinely imo 1000/10

2016 was a bad year for all of us, wasn't it. This included, I like foxes but the cgi isn't great and it's kinda just a repeat of 2014. I also feel it lacks any real critical message that all the other ones have had, I know this sounds idiotic but this one feels the most like an ad and only an ad. 4/10

I've actually never seen this one before I started this post.... there's a reason for that. The songs okay and I do actually like this kid and monster interacting but as a whole I think it has the opposite problem of 2016 where its trying to do a lot with very little. It feels forced and its not very good imo, also it loses points for kinda copping out in the end. 6/19

That aside, I love Elton John, he's a personal favourite of mine and I think in a time where arts programmes and the value of stuff like that gets diminished it is kinda of beautiful to visualise the impact nurturing musical talent can have on people. This feels like a very short version of Rocket man and it wouldn't shock me if they drew a little inspiration from this advert. It's not the most emotional and i think i take points off for kinda just doing Elton John whose basically guaranteed to please people but yeah, 8/10

This. This right here, one fucked up little guy, Edgar is my blorbo and I adore him. This is what 2017 wished it was. The little fantasy town is nice and the cover of the song is honestly pretty good. The general vibe is also good because it's a little sad and that's what I'm looking for tbh. 8/10

I honestly kinda of like the visual aesthetic of this one with the mixed media approach of stop motion, traditional imagination and papercraft. I like the message of this one a lot because I'm a suckered for the positive choices having wide ranging positive impact on the world. The one problem I have is the pacing is a little off and the time loop at the end feels kinda unnecessary 8/10

I have grown to like this one a bit more but u very vividly remember watching the 2021 advert and not liking it. I think it might be the alien, they don't look that alien and I'm not a huge fan of ET which this is a pretty blatant play on. While I do like the message of sharing culture and peace on earth and there's a few moments worth noting it's just kinda mid for me, the kiss at the end also kinda weirds me out but thats probably my own thoughts on this being a kind of ET homage clouding that. As I said I've softened on it but its still a 6/10

I dunno maybe this whole list is asinine and a wasteful glorification of capitalism and I should do something better with my evening

JUST WHEN I THINK IM OUT THEY PULL ME BACK IN. Boy howdy did I feel some things while watching this that I pressumed an advert could never stir within me. I really relate to the Taylor Swift lyric "I've never been a natural, all I do is try, try, try" and man does this hit the spot! Also I think this might he the most solidified message since 2015 because I think foster care and the general care system is so important in our society and its nice to use this platform to bring attention to a worthwhile cause. Bonus points I've included a link to the song in this one because it's sung by a semi creepy sad clown man, which is obviously a plus (I like to think he recorded the version in this advert in the full get up). But I did draw a whole bunch which was maybe 2015/2016-ish but that's on my old laptop so I don't have a lot to drag myself with, sadly, but I can do a comparison because I like those and I have four L4D pictures on my external hard drive from 2017 haha.

.One major thing is the size of my pictures, like I knew that bigger canvases made for better pictures, apparently, and the stuff on the left is at 50% size, compared to what I draw now which is always 2000px x 1000px lately. But that might have been because I was going for a painterly style as opposed to what I’m doing now, because you can hide a lot in a painterly style imo.

.So the left is like, actual finished things, or at least what I would have considered to be good enough back then, and the right is a sketch from a week or so ago. And the sketch is a billion times better, easily. And I don’t mean this in the way of composition or the fact that I made a background because I didn’t do that in 2017…. Or… up until recently haha… but rather in the way of the lines being more accurate, it’s still sketchy on the right because it’s a sketch, but it’s so much cleaner and more confident because I actually studied anatomy in between these times. I think maybe I’d studied the human head because of the way I’m sketching ears on the left, but nothing heavy into body proportions and things.

.But there’s also more depth in facial analysis, all these guys have a square chin, protruding cheekbones, the same kind of necks too on the left. (I mean Bill’s old, where’s the neck sag?) Though lately I know more about singular features, and ways in which to define them. Like, Nick (or Taymour Ghazi, y’know) has a wide face with little cheekbone definition (unless fancy camera angles and general skinny-ness), and he’s got quite a fat uhh double chin (?) like the bit under your jaw that connects chin to neck despite not being actually chunky in the rest of his body. He’s got a cleft/dimple at the tip of his nose, very thin eyes, rounded ears that slightly stick out, and eyebrows that thin at either end that are kind of triangle-y, and I fancy him hahaha :)c. Point being, I wouldn’t have paid attention to any of this back then. The only singular definition I have in the left in Ellis’ bum-chin, which is nothing compared to how attentive to character features I try to be now.

.Then there’s attention to detail in clothing nowadays. I draw seams, like if you want to add defining shape to your pictures just draw the seams. And the folds, I actually understand how clothing folds now, on top of squidgy body rolls and things. Do I need to mention hands? I mean I still struggle because I have tiny baby hands and proportions are hard when you want to draw Big Man Hands and… don’t actually have them irl :(c. Regardless, I’m a lot better at drawing now.

.Also, on another note, I remember drawing a lot of Francis and Nick in prison suits and stuff, and like Nick with full body tattoos or something? I don’t know if I like that anymore, I do like Nick with body scars, atm I’ve drawn him with stabbing scars and on this right sketch there’s a gut shot surgery scar that I want to throw on him. (Premise of the right picture was Nick being stingy about wanting to sort himself out so nobody saw his big old surgery scars and Ellis is just like ‘y’know Keith got a hell’u’va lotta scars, Nick, ain’t nothing that’ll scare me off’ kind of thing.) But that’s another thing! My pictures, specifically the last L4D stuff, all have something of a story to them. Whether people can see the story is another thing, but I’m trying!

.I do still like the idea of Nick and Francis being in prison together because why not, but I got a few more HCs that I wouldn’t have had however many years ago. Like, Ellis cannot grow a beard to save his life, hillbilly bumfluff is the only thing he’s growing from that fabulous jawline of his. And the mullet, oh god why am I so sweaty over Ellis with a mullet, it’s embarrassing, but I’m not to blame, I didn’t introduce myself to backwater-curly-haired-mullet-men, no, someone else showed me that.

oh you gotta give your karin/alina thoughts

ive done this a couple of times but ill do it again hfdhdfhdfhd alikari is probably my favourite ship in magia record with only like kaerena following it up but it’s still nowhere as fun as alikari is imo

alina is a complete asshole in many regards and she treats people very dismissively in general. she thinks no one is worth her time because she could be spending that time working on art. hell the only reason she really is with the magus is that they are supporting her witch breeding and strengthening projects as well as the existence of embryo eve which is exactly what alina wants to create her greatest work of art. so generally alina is not a people person. except for karin. 

alina treats karin markedly differently from how she treats others. alina is still a bitch don’t get me wrong but she treats karin significantly better than she treats others. she reads over whatever karin has made for her manga and tells karin to burn it if she thinks it’s garbage. now that seems pretty shitty which well it is but to alina, the only person who should be allowed to destroy a piece of art is the artist. you see this in her side story and it’s also the reason she hates felicia so much (because felicia killed one of the witches she was raising). so she definitely views karin as a fellow artist, one who still needs polishing as it were but an artist nonetheless. She also just spends time with karin outside of art things and humours her. In the swimsuit side story alina and karin go to the mall to buy alina a swimsuit except alina is only there for a little bit of inspiration so that she can make her own swimsuit and yet she stays there for like quite a while after she has decided on what she wants to make just because karin wants to see her in cute swimsuits which is incredibly funny to me. 

there’s also the matter of karin’s side story which focus primarily on karin struggling with pursuing her ideal of being a magical girl who helps other magical girls by giving them grief seeds. tt’s very good and i recommend you read it but at one point karin has given up on her goal because she’s realized that stealing from magical girls, no matter how strong they are, might just result in someone dying and also that she is unable to beat witches on her on because she’s not strong enough. karin resigns herself to just joining the apartment trio and giving up on her dream of being a magical girl communist but because of the fact that her manga is just her life with her self insert character as the main character alina gets pissed at karin for giving up on her goal so easily and asks her if she’s happy about giving up and karin says she is but alina tells her she’s lying and leaves angrily (this is where she tells karin to destroy her manga i think). karin ruminates on alina’s words while having a very not good time fighting alongside the apartment trio and then after a few days she tries to fight a witch again by herself. She gets her ass kicked but then kaede arrives and says that she was worried about karin. karin tries to protect kaede from the witch and in the process discovers that she can imbue her magic into objects and tells kaede to gather a bunch of stuff and then proceeds to solo a witch. Anyway the whole point of this is to say that alina very much encourages karin to stick to her goals which leads to karin becoming a badass so like yeah

now imo what would have made them literally perfect was if there was some sort of confrontation in the end of arc 1 between the two. karin definitely idealizes alina way too much, something which ive been led to believe arc 2 addresses in some capacity but i dont know how, and i think actually confronting alina at her lowest, an alina that is actively trying to murder everyone in the city would do so so so many interesting things for both of their characters and also completely change their relationship in some incredibly fun ways. ideally the amnesia wouldn’t still happen after the confrontation but even if it still does, it’s still pretty interesting because now we have karin who knows that alina is a monster and responsible for some much destruction and yet she cares about her and so desperately wants to find her, and maybe it’s because she thinks she wants to bring alina to justice, but she really just wants to see her and know that she’s alive and okay and when she does find her, alina doesnt even remember anything like god it would be so good f4 are fucking cowards

I'm assuming that they're the cliques of Class 3-E that have been categorized, but if you could explain it to me I'd appreciate it! Like is this official or mainly decided by the fandom, and if it's fandom-made, how did the groups get decided on? I'm curious! Thank you in advance 💕

The groups 1-4 are based off the groupings of students in the Kyoto Trip episodes. But they’re like the general friend groups of 3-E anyways, even if there are a lot of overlaps still.

So yeah it’s canon haha, but every group is very endearing to the fandom. Some have their favorites and like to focus on a certain group, like me for example. I always talk about how Group 4 are my babies. I’d say the group I see content of the most on tumblr is probably 3 or maybe 2.

Now here’s the fun part hehe. I wanted to make a post like this a while ago and now I get an actual chance.

The (Unofficial) Guide to Friendship Groups in 3-E

Group 1: Isogai, Kataoka, Maehara, Okano, Kimura, Kurahashi, Yada

I always associate this group with being the “popular kids” although that’s not super curious

They’re the closest to being that type of group. But really, I’d say they’re just the friendliest and most...proactive group? They’re assertive and make plenty of plans/ideas for assassinations.

They’re close with each other as like a clique, but all of them hang out with a fair amount of the class, especially the girls.

I feel like...the class reps, Maehara, and Okano are closer...and then Yada and Kurahashi tend to branch off more and hang with other people too.

Kimura is sort of the odd one out ngl, and it’s canon that he hangs out more with other guys in the class. But he sits near most of Group 1, so who’s to say they’re not close, right? He seems to be tightest with Okano and Yada, and he crushes on Kurahashi hehe.

Oh yeah. This group is made of some of the top athletes in the class. Physically, they’re def the strongest imo. We love the jocks

Group 2: Chiba, Hayami, Okajima, Sugaya, Mimura, Nakamura, Fuwa, Ritsu?

Mostly made up of background kids, but nonetheless entertaining

The Artsy Kids™️

They’re scattered across the middle of the classroom but seem to sit near each other generally. I’d say their shared interests bring them closer though

I compare this group to like a standard friend group I’d see in school. They’re like the squad who sticks together from freshman year until past graduation haha.

The boys alone are my favorite part of this group lmao. They’re just chaos, and I love that they had a pre-established friendship from 2nd year, then Mimura fits right in UwU

Art trio kind of have their own thing going on ofc. And Fuwa interacts with them. Chiba is besties with them. We have sniper duo. What’s nice is that 90% of the group has been showin interacting and having friendships. That sadly can’t be said for some others T_T

I’d say the odd ones out are Nakamura and Ritsu lmao. The former doesn’t have a ton of moments or established friendships, and she’s not particularly artsy. And Ritsu...I can’t remember how she joined lol.

Ngl I think this group has the most interesting and creative talents and ways that they contribute to assassination. But they’re generally more supporter types, the ones who hype up the assertive kids.

Group 3: Terasaka, Hazama, Yoshida, Muramatsu, Hara, Itona, Takebayashi

We have the delinquents squad~ No just kidding, I think of them as just the ones who don’t fit in as well in the setting

They took the longest to get used to the class and get along with everyone

They look tougher than they actually are honestly. Muramatsu and Yoshida are soft punks. Terasaka is a big teddy bear deep down, etc.

I think they have the tightest bond amongst all the friend groups. Like...they’re basically a mini found family in 3-E lmao. They’ve been through a lot together, and just are super close.

They immediately open their arms to Itona and take them in after his whole...um, situation. He’s basically the baby of the group lmao.

Hara is of course the Mom Friend but I like to think she’s less so with this group. They treat her more like a close friend rather than someone who needs to take care of them.

Terasaka is their leader just for face. Hazama is the badass who’s actually running things. She has the one braincell always.

Takebayashi is an on-off member for me ngl. I think he’d hang out with them a lot outside of school, and see them as his close friends. But in school, he’s most likely to branch off and hang out with other kids.

A pretty skilled group, nice balance of talents. Almost all of them can cook extremely well, holy shit.

Group 4: Karma, Sugino, Nagisa, Kanzaki, Okuda, Kayano

MY BABIES! My precious children. I unashamedly have such a bias for them.

Ok so...every other group I mentioned so far have a lot of stuff in common, pre-established friendships, close seating, etc

Group 4 has like...none of this lmao.

They’re the wild cards of the class. How did they even get together as a solid group oh my god

I mean...basically Nagisa, Sugino, and Kayano got close by sitting together. Nagisa invited Karma, an old friend. Sugino invited Kanzaki, his crush. And Kayano invited Okuda out of friendliness. And from there...

They are the group of hidden talents/“blades” and I love them for it.

What’s nice about this group in contrast to the others is that it’s clear the guys are tight, and the girls are very close, and it’s decently mixed. They’re just so adorable.

The type of group who don’t hang out as often in class...but would go on a random train trip on the weekends if they’re all free.

They’re spontaneous, ok?

A big thing too is there is no guarantee Atlus will do anything with what they baited in Royal and I know that's why I'm frustrated. I know a lot of people don't have confidence because nothing they've done with Goro makes sense, and its based on getting fans to spend money, not because they care about a character, so it feels like sunk cost? He's still left out of things and I wouldn't feel negative about Royal if I knew for sure they would bring him back. Ppl are tired of being baited.

If you were just after commiseration: ugh! I know!! It’s so frustrating! Atlus is bad in general about payoff and the problem is on glaring display with Goro. You’d think with a whole ass remake and all the money Vanilla made, they’d have the resources to figure out how to handle a complex character in a satisfying way, but those homophobes couldn’t write their way out a wet paper bag and the brilliance of Goro Akechi was almost certainly a happy accident.

If you want my more tough love advice and analysis: expecting a big company like Atlus (ESPECIALLY one with Atlus’s reputation) to deliver on the very specific stuff that fans like us want is indeed a one-way ticket to frustration. I won’t go into speculation about how the character of Goro came to be, but I will say that he feels like a character who was developed for one purpose and then as the writing went on he adopted more importance to the story but the initial plan for what happened to him didn’t adjust to match. Stuff like that happens in writing all the time, and particularly in stories as complex and with as many people working on them as p5. So when I feel like something about Goro’s handling doesn’t make sense, I try to look at it from that perspective. It’s not a deliberate mishandling or a disregard for the character; it was just an early-development failure to accurately predict what would be necessary for his specific arc. And imo Royal put a lot of work into fixing that, but the simple fact is that a truly satisfying outcome for this character would require some significant rewrites and adjustments to the basic fabric of the game, and the devs just aren’t in a position to do that, for lots of reasons. So no matter how much I like the third semester, nothing we were going to get was ever going to feel as complete as it could. So if you are holding out for canon content to somehow justify or validate all of the energy you’ve put into this character and shuake as a ship, then I’m sorry to say you’re probably right and that nothing we get will ever feel like enough. If you feel like that means being engaged with the story and characters isn’t worth it, then you should consider putting your time into something else, to save yourself the frustration. I can’t say how much of the “baiting” around Goro’s character is intentional, but I don’t have any confidence that this lingering feeling of incompleteness is going to be resolved, and I know that people do leave fandoms for that reason. Personally, I am pleased and compelled enough by what we have to stick around, and in fact I might prefer Atlus leaving well enough alone at this point. They’re notorious for wrecking character arcs and tbh I don’t trust them not to ruin Goro Akechi. They can just hand him off to us, it’s fine. We’ll treat him better.

As for Goro being left out of stuff, maybe I just don’t pay enough attention to the tie-in media, but I’ve never been as upset by that as I know a lot of people are. It’s disappointing that he’s not in Scramble, it really, really is, and I wish he could have had at least a cameo, but I also understand why he’s not there and it’s not a malicious choice by the company. Scramble was in development at the same time as Royal, so characters whose very presence would spoil Royal obviously couldn’t be included, which also leaves Sumi and Maruki in the lurch. It’s not ideal but it is understandable. Goro is in the dancing game, as well as pq2, and he just got to be a major part of the train mystery AR game that happened a while ago. He’s even getting a lot of love in the musicals, showing up early and getting more attention at this point in the story than he did in the actual game, almost like the writers are realizing his importance should have been seeded earlier and now, with hindsight, are able to correct some mistakes. He gets a lot of fun stuff in the anime, which I generally don’t like, but their handling of Goro is one of the things I approve of. Rokuro Saito, who writes the Mementos Mission manga, obviously likes him and puts effort into his appearances. I suppose I’m not really sure what he’s been “left out of” other than promo material and like,,, some official art. Due to the nature of who he is in the story, he’s a difficult character to work into things. The people creating this content walk a thin line between not wanting to spoil Vanilla OR Royal for folks who might still spend money to buy the game, and knowing that Goro’s status as a “traitor” means it’d be weird for him to just be included in group shots of the characters. Do I wish there was more content of him? Yes, but I also don’t really see a concentrated effort to leave him out of stuff.

I’m not trying to invalidate your feelings at all, of course. I see sentiments like yours all over the fandom from people who clearly enjoy the story and care deeply about the characters, and I know exactly how frustrating and pointless it all feels. I toss and turn at night thinking about all the ways the game could have treated Goro better, treated Akira better, treated its own themes better, and sometimes I just want to claw my own skin off at all the wasted opportunities, But ultimately, I channel that discontent into my own creativity and appreciate the folks who work to make sense of the nonsense. It’s not a dealbreaker to me. These negative feelings only serve to remind me how much I love these characters, and I know none of us would rage so hard if we didn’t connect to this story in some way. But I can’t count on the source material to make me happy. That’s not the source material’s job. And in the end you have to ask yourself if it’s worth it to you to stick around for something that’s only going to keep disappointing your specific needs.

I don’t want to discourage people from coming to me to vent, but just know that I've been through the gamut with this fandom and I’ve got opinions about Everything, so if that’s not what you need, sorry! I just want to soothe negativity if at all possible but I know not everyone is interested in a lecture <3

Since you brought up mha, what did you think of the latest chapter?

I liked it! Maybe this is just me, but I'm always impressed with how the art elevates the emotion in the story and characters. Like, while appreciate Deku as a character, he's not my favorite, and I didn't find The Speech that inspiring AND YET the way you can see how tired he is? The way we've seen the gradual crawl of him going from closed off to completely open and moved and crying over all these people from his past who he's helped sticking up for him? It makes me emotional too 😭. Hori could (and probably will) do something I hate, and I'd still probably be like, "but the ART!!" I think I finally understand the people who say stuff like that about fanartists....beautiful art is truly powerful. Of course I have to talk about Bakugo, and by extension, inch towards the greater themes of the story as I perceive them:

First of all, up until now, I was anxiously post-apology Bakugou personality reveal. Ngl, I was worried that we might see a more significant shift to "strong and silent," so this panel, where he's getting lovingly reprimanded for giving the stink-eye to one of the hecklers was a relief lmao. Personally, whether he's fully Deku's friend or not, I didn't want him to suddenly become too traditionally "nice" or "mature." I like him the way he is, and I'll always love his determination to be his own kind of hero. That being said, I don't entirely agree with him here. I completely understand why the civilians would be hesitant to take shelter in the same place as the #1 target, especially when they have no license to defend themselves and society is collapsing. If you asked that of me, I'd probably want to free reign to use my quirk in self-defense and/or move to shelter somewhere else too. They're asking a lot of them, and imo, there should have been better planning to make sure as many people as possible felt safe and comfortable. But I see the other side too. Moral dilemma! I always appreciate it in a story.

It's also interesting to feel so...American reading MHA and manga in general. It's not like, a constant thing, but every now and them something happens that makes me react and then reaction to that reaction with, "omg you're so American." While this chapter ends with everyone coming together, emphasizing collectivism, I'm still thinking about the points mentioned in the previous paragraph like boots-strap-y "Murrican I am. This happened to me a couple times back in my Naruto days as well. Ah well, it is what it is. I have some more reflecting to do, probably!

-Tomura doing stuff with his hands/fingers to train his quirk!!! And to learn to be careful with it!! obv I’m a Big Fan of him playing piano to do this and video games are prob the canon answer, but like, guitar or any stringed instrument that requires Hands would work too. Or knitting/sewing? EMBROIDERING? ??? Please, let me give you the mental image of him knitting aggressively while mentally scheming, watching a twitch streamer or smth too while doing it. (Doing stuff with your hands is a great way to let your mind come up with creative stuff, that’s how I come up with writing/drawing ideas 70% of the time)

-Tomura actually PREFERS cutesty, relaxing games. I mean, he does fighting and bloody stuff irl, games are a way to relax...he’ll play shooters and gta type games with The Lads, but. on his own?? animal crossing. pokemon. kirby games. mario. zelda. BIG ZELDA FAN (not saying this bc I, personally, am biased, but,) slime rancher, stardew valley, funny simulator games... he really enjoys those :”) God forbid he has a kid bc they’re 100% getting named after a viddy game character unless someone can talk him out of it LOL. Toga and Tomura are that animal crossing /doom meme where she’d be asking for doom and him asking for animal crossing :”)

-Bits and pieces of Before are kinda stuck in Kurogiri’s brain, but like. mostly useless stuff the doctor didn’t care about removing. Like, types of clouds. So Tomura kinda picks up on stuff like that. He can just look at clouds and tell you what type they are because Kurogiri used to take him up to high places in the city and point them out to calm Tomura down from a panic attack when he was younger. He can tell you if the sky looks like it’ll rain with a 80% accuracy rate too. 

-Kurogiri left food out for kitties in the alley beside the bar. They weren’t allowed in for Health Reasons (it IS a bar with sanitation standards!!) And Tomura really wouldn’t stop it or encourage it either way so long as Kurogiri did his job, but occasionally would stand outside with Kurogiri and just watch the kitties from a distance. If any approached he’d go back in (lowkey afraid he’d hurt them by touching them :( ) They kinda kept that between them tho, bc they both Know AFO is a big bag of dicks and no fun

-people have pointed out how similar aizawa and tomura look. this was 100% the intention. tomura has a hatecrush on him. THIS IS SO FUNNY AND HORRIBLY AWKWARD FOR KUROGIRI LMAO

-Sako??? Mr. Dramatic?? Opera fan. Drama kid. Like, obviously, but. Really. He is. I feel like he can speak a dozen languages. I also feel like he used to be an overachiever but got too ambitious. He was def some kind of leader at one point of a diff Group or something that fell apart. I LOVE how creative he is with his quirk and the magician theme??? incredible. -I don’t care what their canon heights are. Spinner and Dabi? short kings. My height hcs are (tallest to shortest) Kurogiri, Twice, Sako (who also has heels on his boots and a tall hat, keep in mind), Tomura, Magne (Tomura and Magne are about the same height imo) Toga, Spinner, Dabi. LISTEN. Dabi has short energy. Sorry. it’s true tho

-This is a semi-popular hc I think bc I KNOW I’ve seen it before, but Dabi having Terrible Vision and needing glasses is so so good. (seriously, with burns THAT close to his eyeballs, how could he not?) 

-he tries to be a tough loner coolguy. you’d think he’d smoke, but I hc his ‘weak constitution’ comes with weak lungs (esp from years of a flame quirk?? inhaling smoke over so much time is SO bad for you, most people who die in fires actually die of smoke inhalation...) so he’s got like, an inhaler, can’t smoke, actually gets carsick, needs glasses, overuses quirk to save friends constantly, likes napping, a little awkward and rude. Tomura put him in charge of the vanguard so he’s smart, and good with strategies too, like a nerd. this is the Dabi I wanna see, not the popular fandom version of him tbh also step on hawks one more time sir :”)

He was clearly having personal issues and made a HUGE and utterly ridiculous deal of Silent Hill 4 having heavy symbolism to the main character being obsessed with the bullshit idea of him being circumcised, and it led to a maaaassive thread of us members trying to talk some damn sense into him as he abused his power. He was finally banned by the Wikia staff, but not in time for some gaming websites to publish "news" stories about it because it was just that ludicrous. Now, YEARS later, we still get trolls coming onto the site to try and revive the drama by inserting absolute rubbish into pages or making new ones. Nowadays I'm the main administrator there, and it's fucking embarrassing sometimes. I'm supposed to keep the wiki under control and respected, you know? Ugh, I'll stop. I could rant for a very long time about this. Do you prefer ruffly or regular potato chips? Ruffly. Do you write down your own recipes, or just commit them to memory? I don’t cook. Updates about the future of this blog (please read)

hey guys, mod shook here with some updates!!

i want to be more active here, but some changes are gonna be necessary in order to not get burnt out.  so, i’ll be going over what i plan on doing to make the blog more so what i want it to be in this post.  feel free to send in feedback and stuff on these ideas, or things that you’d wanna see me do in the future!

but for now, heres a rough list of changes i plan on making within the next few weeks or so:

- i’m going to be revamping the blog to be more so focused equally on both RS and my ocs; the url and pfp will stay the same, but the banner will probably change and i will most likely update the blog theme and add character bio pages.  plus, since this blog is kinda an au/ cannon divergent to a degree, ill also make a blog lore page to prevent the same questions from being asked like 7 times.  i mainly wanna do this cause most if not all asks directed towards my ocs so far have been rp threads, and really I would like to do more that just that with them.

- not every answer will be accompanied by a drawing, or at least by a drawing with the same quality as usual.  or i’ll just answer questions less.  it just can be hard to find the time to draw with school, and i don’t want all my free time to be spent on this blog.

- i’m probably gonna make a new promo post post-rebranding, since the blog is gonna be different than it was intended to be when i first made it. 

- finally, i’m probably just gonna post general art and/or shitposts more, because sometimes i just like drawing characters without answering anything.  playing with designs is very fun imo, so i might end up making alotta random aus for the characters as well 

but yeah that's about it! i’m probably also gonna clear out the inbox before releasing the new promo post (even though there’s only 1 ask in there) though the ask box will stay open, bc i really don't see a reason to close it.  

and, if you really don’t think you wanna stick around for the direction that i’m taking the blog, then feel free to leave, i really don’t mind.  if making the content i want to means having less followers, then so be it.
