The argument I see when fans try to explain that Stolas acted impulsively in Mastermind because it was a split second before Blitz got executed and he had little time to think of a better plan was “So he had time to get dressed but he didn’t have time to text his daughter goodbye?”

And the argument I have seen for why Stolas trying to save Blitz was selfish on Octavia’s part was because, “His job is to his kid first and he was gonna leave her behind to die for his ex.”

Which like, I won’t deny the validity in Octavia being hurt that he was killing to die and leave her with Stella, but also if Stolas had LET Blitz take the fall for something that was BOTH their faults, not only would that be a massively OOC cruel for him for him to do, and it would be a major blow to the integrity of his writing, but it would also NOT achieve the effect his critics would want.

Because if we were to keep the writing of his character consistent, if Stolas let that happen, he would be DROWNING in guilt to the point where he might not be able to be there for Octavia the way she needs ANYWAY.

And it would decisively kill any chances of him having a community because Millie, Moxxie, and Loona would NEVER forgive him if Blitz had died for real, which would give him more isolation, more depression, and more chances of him being a not-so-great parent to Octavia.

Octavia will heal from her hurt eventually. Stolas will right his wrongs with her one day. But Blitz cannot come back to life.

Either way, while the way he went about it was not well thought out or sensitive to Octavia’s feelings, what he did for Blitz yielded the best outcomes for all involved long term, because the consequences of letting Blitz die are way more permanent.

Before I start, Octavia's feelings are 100% valid, but that doesn't magically invalidate the split-second decisions Stolas made when a literal life was on the line. These things can co-exist!

I think the way Bryce worded it at a recent panel best sums it up;

"What I think good writing is, is putting characters in situations where they have to make impossible decisions fast. And I feel like the decision to step in in Mastermind was, you know, if somebody offered you the chance to save the life of someone you loved, you would do it, and then you would deal with the consequences of it afterwards."

At the end of the day literally every single person who gives Stolas shit for "choosing Blitz over Via" (which is a braindead way to look at this situation) needs to admit they are okay with Blitz dying, because literally what other outcome do they think there was? If Stolas hadn't stepped in, Blitz would've been executed. Simple as that.

I will die on the hill that Stolas' heat of the moment decision was "my life or Blitz's life" and no amount of crying and bitching from "critics" will change that when even the creators are on that hill.

Also, it's kinda funny how much importance they put on "how fast" Stolas got dressed (we see him starting to get dressed when he runs off, so it really wouldn't have taken that long). Visual storytelling-wise that is literally nothing different from how quickly characters get clean/dry despite that realistically making no sense.

Thing I've noticed about the Fairy tail fandom misogyny problem (I'm about to sound like such a nerd)

Not to be the loser of the year but the easiest way to see the bad treatment of women in the ft fandom is by imagining what would happen if you swapped the genders of gray and erza.

As we all know gray has a running gag of taking off his clothes, however while people clown on him for this it's also well known and obvious that he is more than that. He has depth and character beyond just that gag. In the more recent 100 year quest he really hasn't done that much by comparison to natsu Lucy erza or even Wendy. This has been (reasonably) upsetting to some fans arguing that he deserves better. I agree with this but I need you to imagine what the reaction would be if he was a women because it would be a completely different story.

If gray was a character who didn't get a lot of development and was always taking off his clothes as a women people would not be saying he deserves better then would be absolutely dog piling this dude calling him useless and fanservice only completely ignoring all his previous development.

How do I know this? Because that is literally what happened to Lucy. Back in the 2010s people WOULD NOT GET OFF HER ASS. people were constantly calling her useless (completely ignoring the fact that she's a brand new wizard being compared to guys who've been doing this since before puberty and NO SHIT SHES NOT THAT GOOD YET. THATS WHERE THE DEVELOPMENT COMES IN). It made sense for Lucy to be weaker than the others she was brand new to this and that was literally the point of her entire story to watch her grow as a wizard and become more independent and powerful. In some instances Lucy was written to be a damsel in distress character but rather then looking at her as an obvious victim of bad writing it was treated like it was somehow her fault. Gray and Lucy are very similar characters but gray is treated far more favorably right now than Lucy ever was back in the early days.

As for erza, people cannot stop calling her a plot armor character. All I see online is none stop hating, some people even claiming it's worse than natsu. The things is, to a degree they are right erza does have plot armor, the issue is that so does literally everyone else. As much as you don't want to accept it erza fights more so it's more noticeable with her but every single fairy tail fight outside of a few will have an element of plot armor ESPECIALLY for natsu.

The issue I have isn't that people are wrong it's that they completely ignore the fact erza is literally only being treated the same way male anime characters have been since the dawn of time but now suddenly it's a problem. Being overpowered and winning by punching things harder is fine as long as you're a dude ig.

It's even worse when people argue she's a Mary Sue because she objectively isn't. She not only has so many flaws that come to mind easily, she had probably one of the strongest character arcs I've ever seen. She's gone through more character development then 99% of the cast the only problem is that it happened very early and afterward Hiro didn't really know what to do with her.

That being said, even if she had no character arc at all I STILL WOULDN'T SAY SHES A MARY SUE. BECAUSE A MARY SUE IS A CHARACTER WITH NO FLAWS. AND NOBODY IN THIS SHOW IS MORE FLAWED THEN ERZA IS. I've heard people argue that all her flaws are comedic and, ignoring the fact this is just not true she has plenty of flaws that are genuine problems she needs to grow from (ie galuna island, tower of heaven and edolas), who cares if they are comedic? Natsu is also a very flawed person and has not had to change even a fraction of the amount Erza has and does that make him a Mary Sue? No. Do I still love him? Absolutely, he's funny as hell.

This post was not made to complain about gray or natsu btw Its not that I think they're useless or Mary sues I just don't think any of these characters are at all and I think people who do think that should all explode. Anyway this is just what I think feel free to disagree but don't try to argue with me because nobody is changing my mind on this one.

when people watch shows, they’re allowed to form their own thoughts and opinions based on what’s in front of them 🤓 this show is full of nerds and was created for nerds - don’t act shocked when some fans are gonna be the biggest nerds that analyse it very deeply lol.

if you have a problem with people’s byler posts, then you should have the tag blocked so you can’t see anything if you hate them so much - then you can feel comfortable, and so can we, because i feel weird and uncomfortable knowing some byler antis purposefully seek out byler posts to criticise and “call them out” and then make shady posts in response. if you hate the ship and you think it’s stupid and won’t happen, i’m not sure why you’re lurking in byler spaces to begin with?

anyways, there’s always gonna be people who see things differently and that’s fine but i am certainly allowed to complain when a character i love gets worse after getting into a relationship, and when this specific relationship is literally hurting the characters in it (and other characters around them) AND when my favourite character has suffered the entire show loving his best friend and has been forced to watch someone else with him (even though we’ve seen over and over again that him and his best friend have a much stronger emotional bond and make each other feel more safe and comfortable than the actual canon couple who are dating).

and yeah, it’s a fact that most people started to dislike mike when he started officially dating el (s3 + s4). not all general viewers are stupid either. some definitely are lol, but some are capable of just… thinking normally about the characters and they can just simply see when someone changes and gets worse. sometimes i like seeing what people have to say when they’re not biased when it comes to ships too. most hate mike when he officially starts dating el. i don’t know what else to tell you. and some of them actually did think m*leven was cute in the first 2 seasons as well, but not after s3 and s4. they can just see how negatively mike has changed. it’s not calling him evil, he’s a KID with insecurities and struggles, but i don’t know how you can lie and say “he’s so perfect and hasn’t done anything wrong” after seeing how he acts when he’s with el and how other people (who also have their own struggles and trauma!) around them get upset too 😭

every single person i ask does not like him in these moments. the characters in the show get annoyed with him too, so it’s not just a viewer thing, it’s intentionally written this way. his behaviour is just bad. viewers don’t like him, his own friends get pissed off at him, hopper went crazy because of him after being disrespected. none of these were issues before he officially started dating el. the vibes changed because THEY change in this relationship. they’re fake because they’re insecure with each other and constantly lie. they force themselves to only focus on each other and do lovey dovey things that they see other couples do. they don’t even have deep, honest conversations because they’re not truly emotionally safe and comfortable with each other. mike feels like a loser and nerd, el feels like a monster. they make each other feel this way, and it may be unintentional, but both literally admitted they do. THAT is what’s canon. and people are allowed to feel upset about that, because it’s sad seeing them suffer in this relationship and also upsetting those around them.

i’m not saying that makes them horrible people and i am very aware of their age and past trauma, but if that’s the case and they’re dealing with their own individual struggles, they should at least break up, focus on healing and then when the time is right, get back together. if they’re actually soulmates, then it’ll work at the right time, right? but no, they don’t do that. they just stay in the relationship and continue hurting each other AND others around them.

it’s also very normal to be frustrated seeing a gay character have to suffer watching his best friend that he’s in love with date someone else and THEN be used as a plot device to push his best friend into telling his girlfriend he loves her. i’d actually be shocked if people aren’t disgusted by this.

mike, as he said himself, feels inferior to his girlfriend. he is drowning in insecurities. he confessed all of this to will. and we know el is struggling too and feels like a monster as she literally said directly to mike. does that mean that they automatically have to break up just because they have personal struggles? no, not necessarily. but we’ve seen over and over and over again that mike and el don’t actually do anything to communicate properly or solve their own issues. they handle things immaturely or always need someone else to intervene. and i’d be ok with a friend giving a friend advice here and there, but NOT when it’s will, who’s been in love with mike since the start and who is literally breaking inside seeing him with el. you may feel absolutely nothing because you despise will and don’t care about anyone other than mike and el, but it’s disgusting that the writers did what they did. even if i initially shipped mike and el, i’d feel very weird about it after watching season 4.

we literally see on our screens that will, mike’s best friend who’s in love with him, is the only person that actually gave mike strength all season and helped him with his insecurities by confessing his own feelings (even if they were disguised as el’s) and giving him the painting. this is what pushed mike into saying he loves her. i genuinely do not understand how you can watch this show and just… move past that without caring and then celebrate that monologue like it’s the most beautiful and romantic thing knowing it wouldn’t have happened without will. mike would’ve still been so insecure if will didn’t make him feel loved.

On both sides of the community, no one (hyperbole) can ever settle with a middle ground or have any sort of grey area. it's always extreme. it's always "thomas is the worst person ever & all of his actions r terrible" or "thomas is the best person ever & all of his actions are good", when in actuality human beings are complex and cannot be contained in one absolute or another.

Some TSS critical fans focus on things that absolutely do not matter or have the most wild takes I've ever seen. I was one in a sasi critical discord server awhile back and everyone was complaining about Thomas' posting his clothed ass on instagram ... he quite literally underpaying his employees. i think one of these is more important than what he does with his own body.

and the thing is there are some things that he does in regards to his body that IS weird, such as: why is he posting sexually as velma, a teen character, on his patreon which (at the time, idk if it is still now) is not age restricted.

but him posting himself in a spiderman suit where if you look REALLY hard you can "see his underwear" is not the biggest issue in the world. or him not wearing a dance belt in the same costume. sorry, but actually i think you're the weird one if you're focused so heavily on how his genitals look in cosplay! the way you guys talk about it is lowkey leaning towards sexual harrassment, and I don't know if Thomas has an opinion on it or not, but's its incredibly weird regardless.

Shitting on thomas & co, current & past, employees for breathing. there's a new blog going around mentioning how they "hate brei" bcuz she "always starts drama" and the drama that they're talking about is her getting laid off... like. thats not drama, i think an artist is allowed to speak about their experiences with a certain job.

I feel like certain TSS critical fans have such an unrealistic view on creators, in the same way certain non-critical fans do. where non-critical fans think he shouldn't be held accountable for anything that he does, critical fans think every single thing he does is inherently evil or whatever.

"thomas shouldn't be attacking people in his twitter replies" this is an inherently true statement, however there's certain things that really depend on what's happening.

What is this person saying under thomas' posts? Who is saying it? How is thomas reacting specifically?

someone who comments unhelpful & rude ass comments underneath thomas' posts, such as infantalising him by telling him "thomas, thomathy, my sweet child, learn how to wear a skirt!!!" does in fact deserve some heat back because that's fucking weird. telling thomas advice on how to pose for a photoshoot is also probably fucking weird. but a child (or even an adult) commenting how much they miss sanders sides because it's been 4 years? that's fine and deserves a lot more compassion than thomas gives them.

& then you see how some people dm him about certain things or comment on his posts about it, when none of it is warranted. yes it's fucking weird for you to dm him, a REAL HUMAN BEING, and tell him to "hurry up and finish the fucking video"!!!! but its ALSO weird for him to post your username publically knowing how big his fanbase is and knowing how they will react.

im sorry but some fans are, in fact, fucking rude ass cunts. & thomas is allowed to tell you to fuck off. but its important to know when thomas is allowed to do that and when some fans are not being rude ass cunts. thats the point of critical thinking.

and there is some entitlement within the critical side of the community. yes thomas does owe his fans things, no he doesn't owe you certain things.

it's not surprising that he gives sasi upsets on his patreon, it's almost like that's what the point of a patreon is. but he does owe those patreon users something, since they are paying him Money For promised content that never comes.

it's not surprising that he got upset you provided unwanted critique on how he's posing? in a photoshoot? and then didnt... "credit you for the advice" ... thats not exactly how advice works. he does not owe you that. But it is weird how he does take from fan creation and headcanons. after Joan (& thomas, im pretty sure) talked about how they don't like reading fanfiction because they don't want to steal from fans, only to go on and make logan's eyes orange.

(note: i do not know what that user's advice even was, since they never go in depth about it. so maybe it was warranted some credit and not a rude response, but i have no idea so I am going off what I know.)

A lot of fans, again on both sides of the community, think it's a very black & white situation. if one thing applies then everything else does to, when in actuality like .... situations are more complex than you guys expect.

sometimes there's just not a lot of nuance or fucking thinking that goes into some of these takes, and it's one of the reasons I dislike looking at TSS critical blogs now. its why i dislike the concept of a "critical discord server", because no one here can use critical thinking.

i want nuanced, intriguing takes and criticism. not random fucking baseless hate just because you want to shit on him. its annoyingggg!!!

sorry if you've already made a post abt this because my memory is a sieve but i would LOVEE to hear your thoughts in depth about teruko. she's one of my favorite characters but i haven't gotten around to dissecting her beyond like. how the story holds your hand through her lore lol. especially with how you hold her in conjuction with higuchi (!!!) i'm so interested

oh god oh god. lies down. i'm so passionate about teruko forever. trying to compile a list of thoughts like. hm. okay so. okay firstly this got incredibly long so i'll put it under a cut, but:

(1) i love her. so much.

(2) she gets sorted into one of the like... feudal loyalty/fealty/selfless devotion-to-a-commander characters in my head (ranpo and louisa are prominently that to me) in a way that isn't entirely right given that i think her devotion is intentionally colored by a crush in a way the others don't have on-going, but— i'm fond of it. it makes me crazy. i haven't read into her irl counterpart's work because very little of it is accessible in english, but i've seen it noted that it's unsurprising her character lives like this, in a similar and parallel way to higuchi's crush on akutagawa being a homage to her irl work.

(3) i noted this in my tags about her but— i bingewatched s4 and s5 in like two nights altogether as a (mostly) anime-only fan at the time, minimal time for critical thought allowed and having not touched bsd in a few years, so i dismissed the way she is about fukuchi as being a misogynistic caricature at first + was disappointed in asagiri to see it. the fact of her taking the throughline of her character, a foundational fact hammered in her every appearance, and following through with killing fukuchi on his orders retroactively justified all of it to me and made me literally insane. even before we got the backstory that gave reasoning for her loyalty.

(4) i've seen criticism on the s5 finale plot beat wrt her btw? it always makes me frown. disregarding fukuchi's orders would've left no narrative payoff to her devotion to me, would've left her feelings for fukuchi as a joke and caricature with no depth to them, whereas asagiri takes what we know and turns it like a knife within us. we know she's loyal to fukuchi. every single appearance that she has is relentless about insisting, she's loyal to fukuchi first and foremost and transparently, and he matters to her. i think that doubling down on it and insisting, she believes in him, she says fuck justice this isn't about that anymore (-> the other core defining point in her as a character being her belief in justice and in right + wrong) and does the single thing we know would kill her to do because he orders her to. is incredibly important to me.

(5) (bsd has an ongoing theme about smaller, narrower loyalties not overriding the ones that matter, when it comes to ideological conflicts— it shows up with fukuzawa with both mori and fukuchi, prominently to me esp because the fukufuku divide appears in the same arc. teruko's belief in fukuchi's orders overriding her more personal love for him, overriding the more selfish choice to not kill him because she doesn't want him dead, matters to me. again: underlines her loyalty and retroactively justifies it for me.)

(6) i think she was partway-manipulated into what she did. i think she didn't have time to think about it in a balanced, level way. i think if she had been given time, she probably would've sided with him anyway when he explained it, despite the conflict it provoked in her; that's her commander, and she has her own reasons to be wary of another great war, despite how misguided fukuchi was in his beliefs. it doesn't not align with her ideologies. i think she's going to be fucked up and conflicted and wrong-in-the-head about it forever.

(7) she's somewhere between a child and not for me. agefucked forever. ik there's been people discoursing about her age and providing reasoning for one or another, but it genuinely doesn't matter to me except to figure out exactly what flavor of agefucked she is— imo she's too-mature and too-immature and somewhere halfway-between forever. i think she's an eternal child soldier even when it's not true. she sees herself as her role in the hunting dogs before she sees herself as any age at all, and she got plucked off the battlefield by fukuchi from hollow combat to become a different kind of living weapon, this time with a sense of purpose.

(8) the hunting dogs see her as a child just as much and as little as they don't, and they respect her as dangerous before anything else. relevantly to me. i think she's their most terrifying member and is vicious and powerful and they follow her lead, she's their second-in-command, and she's also twelve years old in weird ways and she gets indulged with piggy back rides and sits on people's backs while they do push-ups. both things can be true. group of living weapons who made their bodies into tools and are weird about it. (btw it does make me murderous to like. see her infantilized the way i do in fandom sometimes. she's a brat and childlike and a nightmare. take her seriously forever; the other hunting dogs do, and they always always always acknowledge her as someone worthy of respect.)

(9) the sky casino conflict makes me crazy. she's good at what she does. she was raised doing this. she takes the pain and keeps moving and she sees herself as a slave to society and she's never had the chance to be anything other than what she is and she'd say she chose it if asked, i think. child soldier of all time.

The reason why people hate Silco actually doesn't have to anything with his crimes or the way he treats others. It actually has everything to do with the way the show is structured.

If you think this sounds far fetched, I just want you to stick with me on this and read this post with an open mind bc genuinely I think it's really important. Lots of people do dislike him bc of his actions and his relationship with Jinx, but I'm going to argue those reasons aren't the main/true reasons for the silco hate. To do so, I must highlight some very important points about arcane.

1. The show is about CHANGE.

Everything in Arcane is always changing. The setting, the music genres, the designs, the styles, the storylines, the characters, their relationships- everything is constantly changing in this show. Change is what is what drives the show on every single level. Change is why Arcane makes us emotional and passionate, because as humans we dont like change, and the show is always changing at exact the right/wrong moments.

2. There's two kinds of change

For the simplicity of the argument, we're going to talk about major change and minor change. Major change will be defined as a change that COMPELETLY changes the character's identity. Minor change will be defined as a change that only changes a PART of the character's identity. In Arcane, some characters only go through minor changes, some only go through major changes, and some characters go through both during the show's course. An example of a major change would be Jinx. She starts the show was a meek, innocent, screw-up and later completely transforms to a lethal, broken person. Her character completely changes. An example of a minor change can be seen in Viktor. First he believes that the hexcore is good and can be used to save himself. By the end of season he's seen the harm it can cause and is hellbent on destroying it. This is a minor change because while he does change, he doesn't completely change. He only changes in a minor way.

3. Setting the stage

In order to measure change, you must have a starting point. You can't know how much someone or something has changed if you don't see where it started. For this reason, Arcane season 1 opened the majority of its episodes with flashback cold opens. At some point in the first season, we see all of our main characters years before the show starts. It's important to show this so the audience can better understand the characters. Viktor's running scene hits hard because we say him trying and failing to out run the toy boat as a child. Vi's hate for topside and enforcers is completely understood because we literally see them kill her parents an incite violence on her people.

4. We don't like you

Because the show focuses on change so much and because we're so exposed to it, we tend to oppose the things that DON'T change in the show. The majority of the fans side with Zaun because we've seen time and time again that they refuse to change their ways despite the harm they're causing. Marcus and Heimerdinger are two of the most unliked characters in season 1 because they don't change. Marcus starts the show as a selfish asshole cop and that's how he dies. Heimerdinger's whole thing is that he's IMMORTAL. He's literally not changing no matter how much time passes, and it's because of this that we feel for Jayce and Viktor and don't feel for Heimerdinger, even when he loses his council seat.

Okay, so we've talked about all of these now. What the hell does this has to do with Silco?

Well, lets look at what we talked about in conjunction with Silco.

Silco only really goes through one change in the show and it's a minor change. He starts the show willing to risk ANYTHING to get his Nation of Zaun and by the end he comes to the conclusion that he's no longer to willing to risk anything for Zaun. This is a pivotal change for him, but it isn't exactly a big one. Silco started the show as a violent, radical, antagonist and he dies being all three of those things. So no major changes here. And when we look into his minor change, it truly isn't that big because had Jayce asked him for anything else, literally anything else, Silco would have gave it to him. He's basically willing to do anything, minus one thing. One. singular. thing. That is so important to him.

2. Silco got a flashback scene like everyone else, but his flashback wasn't highlighting the change in Silco's character. It was highlighting the change in his relationship with Vander. In his flashback, Silco is unhinged, ragefully, and hostile in behavior as he delivers a smart monologue. This Silco is the same Silco we see later in the show, he doesn't change. He remains calculated, cunning, and heinous throughout the show. From the earliest point in his life that we see till we see his final breath.

3. The show has us programed to be opposed to those who are stagnant. Silco is stagnant. He does not change. In this regard, he's like Marcus. He's like Heimerdinger. And thus, since he's lacking change, we dislike him.

Just think about that for a moment. We literally never see Silco be anything different in the show. Even in the few moments he has were he's softer or weaker than normal, he's still the same guy. The fact that he's always been the same to us has led us to jump to conclusions about his character and his relationships based on limited evidence. We ALL assumed that the falling out between him and vander was his fault. We ALL assumed that he was this terrible guy even prior to the betrayal or vander. Because we never saw him change, we all though he couldn't change.

Isn't that a bit...sad? Like for us and for him. We genuinely have no idea who he was prior to Vander or prior to the betrayal. We all just assumed the worst from him because it was all we ever got to see. For all we know, the betrayal may have no even been his fault. For all we know, Vander could have been the fucked up one out of the two. We literally have no idea because we never see who he really was.

In a heart to heart he was with Jinx, he tells her "That day, I let a weak man die, and another was reborn." How right he was. We never get to see who this "weak man" was. Silco effectively did kill him.

No matter what age you headcanon him as - if you think you KNOW his age, you're probably wrong. And I mean that.

The ATSV describes him as a 'slightly older boy'. Case closed, right? He's a minor then.

Nah, three lines later they say he's MUCH older than Miles....literally contradicting themselves within the same paragraph.

[And the funny thing is - I've seen the artbook used as evidence in the argument multiple times. Even though it literally contradicts itself. And every single time I'm like 'bruh did you even read the full page come on now'.]

Case in point, if you think you KNOW Hobie's age when 1) it's not stated on screen and 2) even the official external material gives conflicting information - you're just wrong. You can't know a theoretical number. And you can't be wrong about a theoretical number.

It's Schrodinger's age.

Example: A character is shown to be in High School. They live in New Jersey where the driving age is 16. If a fanfic writer has the character say "I can't do that, I can't drive yet.", is the fanfic writer canonically wrong? No. Because the character could reasonably be above OR below the driving age, either 14-18. Even if the director mentions the character having a sweet-16 that is never mentioned in the show, it's not screen-canon and the average viewer will not know the character is definitely over 16. Therefore they can reasonable be 15.

Don't care. Not weighted canon unless stated on-screen.

Maybe this is a controversial opinion. But if it's not on screen, I can't say it's canon.

Sure, the director may have said in an outside interview that Hobie's conceptually 19-20 -

But a normal person who goes to see the movie, and comes home to write fanfiction isn't going to know what.

They shouldn't have to dig through all conceptual and external content of a specific character in order to be deemed 'acceptable' and knowledgeable enough to write about them.

A person who watches the movie and writes solely based off of what the movie says about Hobie shouldn't be harassed or told they're wrong because they didn't listen to a podcast of a director who's name they don't even know.

There's no pass that says 'Okay you've done enough research about Hobie to write about him, congrats-'

If it's not in the movie, show, book, etc - a fan should not be required to seek out that information to be caught up to speed. External information is supplemental, not a part of the hole.

Also-

If it's not in the movie - It DOESN'T MATTER.

ATSV is a very well written movie. Every line is used for the purpose of telling the story. Especially Hobie's.

They didn't tell us Hobie's age because it didn't matter to the story. And it shouldn't matter to you.

If the writers didn't care enough to take time out to clarify his age, then it makes no sense to spend take arguing about it.

They obviously don't find it important. Because it isn't. It doesn't matter to the story at all.

Hobie's age doesn't matter to the 'love triangle'. Although the film is narrated by Gwen, we largely see it from Miles' point of view. And the 'love triangle' only exists when Mile has no concept of who Hobie is.

Miles doesn't know Hobie. So him questioning a love triangle happens regardless of whether Hobie is an adult or not. Miles doesn't know, neither do we.

The 'Hobie' in the 'love triangle' is an empty-shell of the mystery of who Hobie COULD be. The moment Hobie takes off the mask and we're revealed to the real him - the illusion of who he could've been is shattered for both us and Miles.

Because his age isn't stated, it has no bearing on Miles' perception of him. Miles don't know shit. Neither do we.

Even if he had just came back from a match or if he had one up next. His love for the business is stronger then anyone there and the respect he has for you being right in the business with him is immense

Everytime you’d come through gorilla he’d be right there waiting to comfort you or celebrate with you “I’m so proud of you” “you did the best you could darlin’” and sweep you off your feet (literally).

at first when you two met it was safe to say you were intimated by the phenom. I mean it’s the UNDERTAKER. you thought he’d be exactly how you saw on tv but boy were you wrong. Now that I think about it, what happened with Izzy seems very on purpose.

You are gonna tell me that Izzy, a very experienced pirate who practically knew every single trick in the book, didn’t send to search Ricky for every single gun he could have?

I don’t believe that for a second.

Suic**al thoughts don’t go away from one day to another and while I think he was not actively seeking it, I also think he wouldn’t mind if something happened.

Izzy is, cause fuck you MAX, a person who has been abused physically and mentally, resulting in having a physical impairment. Who I think was having a hard time, but still trying to maintain that illusion of things being as always have been.

For example: in the beginning of the season Izzy was acting as the way Blackbeard was behaving was normal/ok until getting to a breaking point or later passing what happened to his leg as a shark attack. Overall not healing, physically and mentally, the way he should have.

Don’t get me wrong, OFMD is a comedy overall. I guess for the sake of keeping it in that genre many MANY subjects were not addressed as we expected or should have.

Still, let me keep analyzing this event that even though I don’t agree with it happening, and I hate it, for what I’m seeing it was kinda seen coming.

It’s sad that this type of ending was decided for Izzy, because as the season progressed he was trying really hard to accept others and most importantly accept himself just as Izzy, not Blackbeard’s right hand or a very scary pirate, just Izzy.

I see him as a very tired person, who suffered for everyone, put everyone else before himself and pretty much felt that the bad things that happened to him were right. Being a old (for pirate years) pirate, with a disability and obviously low self-esteem probably was a big weight on him, maybe to the point of him thinking he was pulling everyone else behind.

I don’t wanna say he gave up, because I don’t think thats what it is, but Izzy was very ready to leave this world. He literally said “I wanna go”.

I’m not an Izzy fan, but it just really sucks that this was his ending. Maybe even more than Stede or Ed (Ed being my fav) Izzy deserved his peace, his happiness, whether it was keep being a pirate or retiring. But he deserved that, happiness.

Con O’Neil was phenomenal. Simply outstanding, whether you like the character or not you can not disagree with this fact. Maybe he is pleased with how Izzy’s arc ended, but truly I’m not. We can agree to disagree.

Israel Hands deserved fucking better, you twat. Especially in this so called comedy where people survive being thrown off a ship and transforms into birds.

One of the reasons I love Louis so much and love his music is that I had some massive loss in my life and I can identify so much with how he tries to just roll up and keep going but when you have given so much of yourself to something that you forget who you are without it. I was the carer for my Gran and when I lost her and got my own apartment it was like I had to discover what my taste was, like what bits were mine and which were hers. It took years. Then I got a corporate job a couple of years ago and had to leave the house every day and I realized that I didn't actually like the way I dressed. Like how much of my style was what was available vs fit vs practical in an I need to be able to cook, clean, and change a diaper at any moment. That also took about a year of trial and error. I cannot IMAGINE having to do that so thoroughly in the public eye like that

Mayfair Witches S2E3 (Show & Book Spoilers) - Cycles of Abuse: Smdh Lestat & Cortland

99% of what Lasher does in this episode is now canonically the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt's fault, for being a horrible effing teacher & coven master--like I've BEEN saying this entire time. 🤦

In my last post, I detailed the encounter Lasher had with Lestat's Millennial!Fledgling Felix, who was apparently taught by Lestat to be a remorseless monster who finds sadistic pleasure in killing humans, or "sheep"--a la The Meat. I'm even seeing fans tryna figure out who Felix's teacher was, when Esta said it TWICE, y'all.

So, Felix passes on these priceless pearls of wisdom to the highly impressionable Lasher (who's literally only a week+ old with no idea what he is or wtf he's doing), encouraging him to ignore any guilt/shame & human rules about morality that'll just drive him crazy.

Of course, being a Taltos, NOT a vampire, this is terrible advice to give Lasher, who proceeds to target more Mayfair witches with renewed purpose, despite knowing that he's KILLING them every single time he has sex/rapes & impregnates a Mayfair. 🤦

Technically true, LOL? Rowan didn't entirely lie to you, Daphne. 😅

In 2x2 I mentioned that Julien was likely referencing a book character, Ancient Evelyn Mayfair, Cortland's daughter/Julien's granddaughter, She was a powerful witch who had visions & told prophecies about the future, including the entire prophecy of how Michael would both father & kill Lasher. She was considered crazy, and was locked up in her house for most of her life. Julien was a pedo who groomed Evelyn and made her fall in love with him so she could read his future. Her story's really.... Anyways, she's old AF & dying by Rowan's time. So AMC apparently is scrapping all of that, to make Evelyn Dolly Jean's sister, and not Cortland's daughter (Rowan & Jojo's sister). But AMC still retained that Evelyn's a rape victim, transferring it from Julien to Cortland.

--and it makes sense, if Cortland tried to force himself on AMC!Evelyn to father a witch on her, although we haven't seen any indication that she has any special powers like Dolly Jean yet--she just smells really good like all the Mayfairs Lasher's most genetically compatible with--

His murders aren't violent homicidal acts where he's deliberately tryna snuff out a person's life--he's trying to CREATE life, actually. But listening to dumba** Felix, he tries to actually MURDER David, an innocent man just tryna save his mom from being raped BY Lasher. Blessedly, Lasher chooses to stop, walk away, and go back home to his mother, Rowan.

Sure, Lasher's not human, but he still has a soul, and free will, and CHOOSES to be more than his impulses--that Mayfair scent that compels him to breed. He chooses to do the right thing & walk away and NOT force himself on anymore Mayfair women--which is more than that MONSTER Cortland can say!

Like, I get it--we saw in 2x2 how Cortland has deep trauma about his father Julien. He grew up in the family feeling like another "eunuch husband," only good for being breeding stallions for the witches; then kicked to the curb--not given any real POWER/AUTHORITY as the man of the household, since the Mayfairs are a matriarchy. But boo frikkin hoo, god forbid the patriarchy takes an L for once. 🙄😒

And ofc we'll see the exact same theme about sons trying to not be like their toxic abusive AF fathers in IWTV S3/TVL with Lestat, too.

But Jojo ain't never lie! Cortland is under Rowan's roof not 20 feet away from her, talking crap about her t make himself seem more important & indispensable! 🤦

Speaking of Jojo, I'm so glad they cleared this up. Cuz I'd BEEN wondering since S1 why Jojo wasn't the designee! I was hoping her actress was playing a biological female, but no, Jojo confirms that she's trans, which is why Cortland needed Rowan, cuz Jojo can't get pregnant, DANG! Poor Jojo! (But trust: in THIS family, that'll actually save Jojo's life! 😬)

So Cortland needs a breedable female pawn to control, cuz the women have all the power in the family--and I agree with Jojo, he was only cool with her transitioning cuz as long as she's a woman she CAN take the lead on some things (like running Mayfair Medical before Rowan got there), being the spokesperson for darn near everything, 2nd only to Dolly Jean it seems? So Cortland still gets to have SOME authority by having Jojo as his daughter not his son; proving that CORTLAND is useful & actually does contribute something beneficial to the family, unlike what Julien said in 2x2.

But IDGAF what inferiority complex tragic backstory Cortland has, just like IDGAF about book!Lasher's backstory--and IDGAF about Lestat's backstory either. I care about how that shapes them as people & the choices they make, ofc, but it doesn't ABSOLVE them of the choices they make & the horrible things they did to people--esp. their families & the people they claimed to "love."

book!Lasher goes on & on about how much he "loves" My Witches, and yet he was a HORRENDOUS spectre haunting them for 13 generations! Cortland went on & on about how much he loved his daughter Dierdre, yet he raped her to father Rowan, and drugged her for DECADES to keep her under control so she wouldn't run away & LEAVE that awful family like Antha tried to (b4 Carlotta killed her). Lestat went on & on about how much he loved Louis & Claudia, and still spewed utter filth about them in that disgusting Trial, just cuz they left him to rot in the dump.

Rowan realizes that she can be more than her paternity too, and NOT follow in Cortland's footsteps, lying & scheming & deceiving her family members. She can and SHOULD be honest, and tell them the truth about Lasher--not that it matters, ofc, cuz Lasher's just decided to stop & come back home anyway. But it's the thought that counts?

I NEED TO GET SOMETHING OFF MY CHEST

I am a young adult. Born in a time where it was seen as cringey/insane to be obsessed with a singer. I remember going to school and my friends making fun of one direction fans/ Justin Beiber fans. I must admit I was in on that train at one age, but then it hit me.

What the fuck is wrong with people enjoying a person's music and showing their love?

Nobody is being harmed. Nobody is being discriminated. Nobody is being in anyway impacting the lives of others. Why do we as a society put down these people? (This excludes fans that were harassing/stalking)

And for years I respected those types of fans from a distance, never quite understanding their love but seeing how it brought them so much joy.

Then I discovered Joost.

My world has changed completely. I began listening on the day before TRAFIK came out and I was hooked.

I love everything about him. From his music, persona, fashion, friends, and even this fan base.

I am embarrassed sometimes of what a big fan I am, and that's not right. I wish nothing but the best for Joost and in my time of being a fan I have ensured I have done nothing that could make him uncomfortable.

Except maybe read RPF but I truly in my heart of hearts don't think he will mind, because the shit he wrote about himself was no better. And if he ever came forward saying it made him in anyway uncomfortable I'd never read it again.

Seeing how you and many other have explained RPF has really helped me get over my worries. Though I won't be putting it on display any time soon, I am a huge Joost fan.

Anyway, thank you so much for opening my eyes to the wonderfulness of Joost and reblogging so many different types of media.

You have helped me discover so many different blogs that have quickly made their way into my heart.

i don’t know what it is in particular about the joost fandom that is so anti rpf hahaha but it’s kind of commonplace in most other fandoms so i’m not sure where the insane amount of outrage comes from when joost hasn’t said anything about it himself …

like i know there are obviously people who are anti-rpf in every fandom but its not usually such a big talking point??? like people keep it to themselves.

even I MYSELF used to not enjoy rpf for a time… (until i turned to the light) but even then i literally did not gaf if people wrote rpf??? like i literally did not give a single fuck? and i didn’t expect the people who it was about to share my stance either so i don’t really understand this fandom in particular

but whatever! don’t be ashamed of regular shmegular fandom activities! this shit is so normal and i think here it joost was ever to communicate anti-rpf boundaries we would all completely understand that :-) were just having fun here, and no harm is intended, just creating little stories with an artist we admire!

people feed into the stereotype too much that people who participate in fandom or fanfic are just all creepy stalkers who think about whatever celebrity 24/7 and try to invade all types of privacy. i just don’t think that’s true- but the stereotype has people literally gripped by the throat that so many people are turned off from fanfic / fandom without even trying to get to see what it’s actually like!

Hey Mei, i got a question why are people so agressive with ships? I mean when it comes to ships everybody can come off as agressive in any fandom. However but the little time i enter the Honkai fandom in particular i noticed somethings. One fans insulting other fans from the hoyoverse community (basically genshin insulting honkai fans and vice versa). Two i kid you not i literally read death threats and fans telling other fans to unalive themselves because of ships. I also noticed to some of the people of the community are very hostile to Men in general. I'm kinda scared talking about this. But i'm generally very curious about this topic and i was hoping that you can help me understand why they are so hostile when they belong to the same gaming community shouldn't they band together and demand more of hoyovers? Since in a few occasions i felt like they did the fans dirty. You are more than free to ignore this

I think it all just boils down to people not being able to mind their own business.

Unless the ship is literal pedophilia or incest, there's not really any valid reason to be aggressive about something as insignificant as ships. One thing I really don't get is when people get mad when someone ships person a with person b when they ship person a with person c. For example, Kiamei shippers getting mad at Elymei shippers because "Mei belongs to Kiana!". It's really not that serious. At least, certainly not serious enough to warrant death threats...

I can sort of understand where they're coming from to be wary of men when it comes to gaming. For decades, most men have belittled women and discriminated against them. Mostly saying that "they can't be good at games because they're a girl" or other stereotypical reasons. It doesn't help that a lot of male honkai/star rail/genshin players sexualize the characters for every single thing they do. (Caelus, Aether, and Captain harem) With HYV games where most players I've seen are female, at least in my experience, I can understand feeling wary of men.

Still, that doesn't mean two wrongs make a right. Being wary doesn't justify harassment and outright sexism, it'll only continue the cycle of hate.

Whew! That's a loaded question Anon lol. I feel like I've already kind of shared my opinion about them on here quite a few times. I'm gonna try to get my thoughts together... Cuz it's a lot to say....

Okay, so first of all... I thought they were a real deal couple at first... But based on some of the things I've been seeing lately, Idk.... Something about them seems a bit contrived and smthg seems off about their rlship. 👀 (Don't hate me! Just being honest)

I'm not really a fan of the age difference (mainly with her being 21...if she were 25 I wouldn't care), but it's whatever at this point. 🙄

I think people tend to forget that Pete Davidson was dating Kaia when she was 17 (UNDERAGE mind you) and he was 26. Nobody seemed to blink an eyelash. Cara Delavigne (sp?) also seemed to be having something going on with Kaia when Kaia was 18 and Cara was about 10 years older than her too. So, like I said, Kaia isn't new to this. But for some reason, with Austin, everyone is crying bloody murder lol.

Either way, I've always been saying that no matter WHO Austin dates next, I just hope she's older than 21. 😒🙄 Cuz THAT is not a good look. I don't even know how they got together. Could have been a setup for all I know. I'm just meh about them tbh. They're a boring couple to me. She's boring I'm sorry lol. 😅

Like I've said before, I've never really taken them all that seriously (maybe some shippers/fans do, but I don't), so maybe that's why I just don't really have much of a strong reaction to them. To me, they just seem like any other couple in Hollywood that dates for a while, and then will more than likely eventually break up lol. 🤷🏾‍♀️

The dating of Kaia aside, I honestly just think (and this is just my honest personal opinion) that a lot of people want to hate on Austin.. 😅🤣

For some reason, the internet has a huge hate boner for this guy, and I just don't get it lol. I just assume he's the internet's perpetual whipping boy at this moment in time, and people just wanna drag him just because it's the "in" thing to do. First it was the Vanessa breakup thing, then it was the Kaia thing, then it was the voice thing, then it's they think he's annoying....Some call him pretentious...or arrogant, etc...

But then, I look at his interviews present AND past, and I'm like: "Are we talking about the same person??" 🥴

Even if you think that someone is annoying, is that any reason to hate someone you don't even know with such a passion lol? 🤔 Idk it just seems a little weird to me. Almost like it's forced or something.

I almost feel like people have put a certain personality on him that's not even him lol. 😅 Every single thing I've seen of Austin (past or present) he has always seemed to be very nice, respectful, down to earth, kind, humble, maybe a little socially awkward/shy, etc. But NONE of the things people on twitter/online describe him as. So I'm always left very baffled lol. I could see if he were a trouble-maker, an abuser, or talking badly about people, or was engaged in some scandalous things over the years, but the dude literally is just a quiet person who basically works, does his job, and minds his business. 👀

So, he just might have to grow out of this "hate phase" in his career right now. I keep saying on my blog that just about EVERY actor has had a "hate" phase lol.... and it will continue to happen, because people are just weirdos and hateful for no good reason online. 🙄

But these phases don't usually last forever. It will eventually go away one of these days. Anyway, that's my long dissertation...Not sure if that answered your question Anon lol, but that's my honest opinion. 😊
