same! even without powers or cool weaponry like a pen/sword that always returns to your pocket, she still kicks ass. i'd go as far as to say one of the most formidable demigods in the bunch. top tier. favorite character.

The brief moments of pettiness we got from Brian during that arc fuel me. I support him in all of the cheating era and he has never done a thing wrong in his life ever 😌

The truthiness in all of this! Davies might have maybe had a point about showing that love isn't always requited and that's okay. But doing that with Martha, of all companions? Especially right on the heels of blondie mcBlonderson? No.

That's one of the things that frustrates me about writers who don't have enough scope of imagination to take into account more than 1 aspect of a characterization or storyline. That's a function of privilege.

It's Davies focusing on that one thing without thinking how it would come off given all the other things about Martha.

It's Paul Cornell thinking he understands racism and that putting a lampshade on it somehow makes having it in the story the way he did makes it not as bad (re: "Human Nature" and "The Family of Blood") AND also continuing with the unrequited love nonsense.

(side note: Paul and I have discussed this and come to a good understanding, so I'm not calling him out in the present time, only the past.)

It's Chris Chibnal turning Tosh on Torchwood into a stereotype when she wasn't set up that way because he doesn't know how to not turn non-white people, especially women, into stereotypes.

All of these men are good writers but (at times) aren't good enough to get past their own narrow views. In Davies case, I'm pretty sure he thinks his views aren't narrow because he's gay. That's the most dangerous of them all.

Remember ages ago when I said Freema did an interview talking about Martha and what she was and wasn't happy with in regards to the story? I found it!

Interviewer: ...Do you still think about her? How do you think about Martha in the year 2019.

Freema: Ah yeah I just did a convention with David [Tennant] recently actually and he said something that um, I hadn't heard before, and he was asked about that relationship between the two chatacters and he said 'I think that the Doctor wasn't fair on her' and I sorta looked at him and I was like...I've never heard your take on that before because I knew at the time you know she was...for me there was definitely a kind of beat that they struck on that stayed maybe a little bit too long. It was the unrequited storyline an I think they stopped exploring her as a fully rounded human being in light of that and Russell [T. Davies] did say you know, it's important to him though that people can sometimes see that...you know love doesn't always have to be reciprocated and it's okay to kind of...most of us probably have that in common that we have unreciprocated...emotions than reciprocated and I was like no that's cool I get that but people also tune in for escapism and for romance and all of the magic and the, you know, the imagination so sometimes to be like grounded back down into hard truth isn't very attractive. *Laughs* So I kind of felt like she got stuck a little bit amd when people ask me if if I would go back it would only be to explore her as a fully rounded person more and she had so much going on and then it got stuck for whatever reason. But I had the best time and I feel like there's so much more potential to that person.

one day I bought a round cat plushie and I was like "hell yeah it's going to be so comfortable to sleep with it between my legs yeeee" and then I went home and the first time I did that I had a dream where I was on a completely white but poor iluminated place and a humanoid figure with no details other than being human shaped told me like "take your leg off him, he doesn't like having weight on top of him" and I woke up in the middle of the night and the round cat plushie was on the floor. At that time I hadn't woke up in the middle of the night or let any of my plushies fall of my bed for ages and it was the first time it happened in months. I was like damn ok and put it back on my bed and went back to sleep

then a few days later I was like "bro I really bought that plushie especifically to put it between my legs when I sleep and I stopped doing it because of a fucking dream I had I'm so stupid" so I slept that way for the second time, and again I had a dream that I was on the same place and the same figure talked to me like "hey I already told you he does NOT like having weight on top of him, stop it" and I woke up in the middle of the night again and the plushie was on the floor but instead of being at my bed's foot it was on the other fucking side of the room, right at the door. I have literally no idea how that happened and it was the first and only time it did. I was like "WELL. OKAY." and just never put anything on top of him again!! the dreams stopped and it never fell off my bed again so it's fine I guess
