Tonight went nothing like you had planned. You and Hongjoong were going out to dinner with all the members to treat yourselves but for some reason you were just in a bad mood. Maybe it was PMS, maybe it was some medication you were taking, or maybe you were just having a bad day. Hongjoong tried to be warm and understanding with you while you got ready but you basically gave him the cold shoulder.

He brushed it off because he knew sometimes you had mood swings and mental health issues can make it difficult for you to control yourself sometimes. Once you got out into public though you were only worse. Complaining about everything. You talked back to one of the staff at the restaurant, hardly engaged with the members during the meal and complained about the food afterwards. The members didn't overly mind really, they just kind of did their own thing. However Hongjoong was not impressed with your bad attitude.

He knew that you know how to keep your mouth shut even when you're in a pissy mood but today it's like you didn't even try. When the two of you got back into your sweet home you set your purse down and take off your shoes.

“I shouldn't have worn these shoes,” you sigh as you see the little blisters on your feet. Hongjoong sets down his bag and grabs your wrist, turning you to face him.

“What is your problem?” He hissed and you're taken aback by his aggression.

“What do you mean,” you laugh and Hongjoong grits his teeth.

“You're being an asshole!” He exclaimed and let go of your wrist forcefully. “Back talking, making rude remarks, and ruining the fun for everyone else and for what?” He growled and you look away from him with a frown. “Answer me,” he brings his hand to your chin, making you look up at him. “Do you want attention that badly?” He scoffed and you look away sheepishly. “So that's it. All you wanted was a little attention and you ruined everything for everyone else,” he puts a hand to his hip before sighing. He lets go of your chin and you look down at the floor. “What am I going to do with you?” He sighed. “I guess I'm going to have to teach you a lesson on how to behave,” he smirked before leading you to the couch.

He tells you to bend over the side of it and you do exactly as he says without hesitation. The armrest of the couch is right at your core and your toes barely touch the floor. Hongjoong comes up behind you and flips up your skirt, your ass fully exposed to him.

“H-Hongjoong what are you doing?” You whimper with red cheeks before feeling his hand come down and smack your right ass cheek. You gasp softly at the feeling.

“You're not gonna act like a brat anymore are you?” He whispers into your ear before slapping your left cheek, this time harder. You moan and kick your feet up. He slaps the right one again. “Answer me,” he says sharply and you whimper.

“I-I won't,” you squirm beneath him and he smiles. You hear the sound of him undoing his belt and sliding it off his waist. Your face turns red at the thought of what he's going to do next.

“But I need to punish you for today,” he folds the belt and rubs the cold leather against your burning red cheeks. “Teach you what happens when you misbehave,” he smirks before pulling his hand back. He then slaps the leather across your skin and you whine. “It hurts doesn't it?” He smirks before slapping you again, harder this time. The added sting of the leather made you squirm under him. “Answer me when I ask you fucking question,” he whips you with the belt harder than you've ever felt before. You moan loudly before replying.

“Yes, yes it does. It hurts so good,” you whimper as you feel your ass turning red.

“Good girl,” he smirks as he plays with your hair softly. He lifts the leather belt again before bringing it down to your ass again. You jump at the shocks. “You won't disobey again will you?” He taunts and you shake your head.

“I won't, I will never disobey you again,” you whimper and he smiles wickedly.

“Good,” Hongjoong holds the small of your back gently as he hits you a few times back to back. “You will listen to me,” he whips you again. “And you won't talk back in such a rude tone to anyone,” he hits you again. “And you won't act like a brat just because you want attention,” he whips you one final time with the hardest you've ever felt. Your knees buckle from the feeling and you slip off the couch. Hongjoong sets the belt down and helps you up gently. He kisses your forehead and rubs your back. “You did so good, baby,” he smirks. “I'll go get some cold water for you,” he says before getting up and heading to the kitchen.

In reality, Hongjoong knew how much you had a kink for discipline and punishment so violently and he was happy to oblige. He was very thorough with aftercare and before you even started this whole spanking thing Hongjoong made sure to understand what was too much for you, which was basically nothing but still.

Hongjoong came back with a cup of cold water and two towels. He told you to on all fours and you did as he said. He pulled off your skirt and panties, setting them to the side. First impressions of Animorphs!

I'm listening to the Animorphs series while I work, through Animorphs Aloud - a fan made reading of the series. Here are my first impressions/random thoughts about them! Spoilers below if you haven't read them.

Book 5: The Predator

Alright we've got Marco POV. I was dreading this one cause I find him a bit whiny and annoying, but I'm actually quite into it! I think seeing his internal thoughts and worries really helps deepen the character.

My suspension of belief is being tested by the idea of punks dumb enough to try and fight a gorilla.

Ok so if you get hurt and then morph, you lose the damage. But what if you have something stuck in you? Like a bullet.

Being that this is book 5/54 somehow I doubt this will be Marco's last mission, but considering how against it he's been and the recent traumatising I'm curious what will pull him back. Hoping it will be something that puts the 'should we/shouldn't we' plot point to bed.

You know I really want to know HOW Visser Three got the Andalite body, hope we get to learn that backstory sometime.

AAAAAAAAAAAA Visser One reveal holy shiiit. I KNEW Marco's mom would come back up, but I didn't put the pieces together with Visser One. Haha. Brilliant. I guess this is how we'll be keeping Marco on board.

Oh man the thoughtspeak between Marco and Jake, the only other one to realise. It makes Marcos comments on Tom being a controller in the first books so much juicer. Now you guys have this in common.

They're in a hurry so can't really blame em but man it would have been good if they could have acquired a Hork-Bajir from the unconscious ones

One thing I appreciate in animorphs is how so far, most of their missions have been failures. This book is probably the biggest failure, they potentially blew their cover with Ax in the mall, got almost killed twice, failed to capture a spaceship and got saved by a Yeerk. I really enjoyed it though, I like Marco a lot more now, I think the big reveal is gonna be great for his character.

This episode was a LOT. I found myself thinking "wait, if this is episode nine, what's going to happen in episode 11?!" but then I thought, well, if we compare the structure of Last Twilight to Bad Buddy (which I invariably do because those are the two 12-ep-shows of P'Aof's that I've watched), this is the … hit a snag, get past it, hit a LARGER snag part of the story arc, isn't it. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Tales of the Fae Retreat

Mario was on the way to Luigi's house to bug him, as it is his obligation as Luigi's brother, got called by God right before knocking on the door. anyway, i got my party back. Mr L and Luigi are very confused by each other's presence. O'Chunks keeps sticking bananas in everyone's pockets, and I can't keep Timpani away from the damn horse - lucky for Blumiere he's too busy being possessed to know his wife is cheating on him.

Mr L is generally being the nuisance he's designed to be - he keeps "getting sick" but it's pretty obvious he's faking because eventually someone will check on him and he'll go "ehhh i'm done resting"

because i have 0 restraint, my current party is a dimigi sandwich. somehow, Dimentio is the most emotionally stable of all of us. (i switched Luigi to a cook because the flower class was annoying me. now he's OP)

Yesterday the universe tested me and I had not studied. I woke up, did my yoga routine (new & improved edition where I put on some light ambient music on Youtube and don't count the seconds for each pose, I just do it for as long as my body needs it), had a very strong urge to clean my bathroom so I did that, washed the dishes in the sink, made myself a really nice lunch, and started gaming with my friends ALL before 2pm. Then my boyfriend got mad at the game again, and he started making these growling noises that I could overlook for the first couple of seconds, but he wouldn't stop so I asked him to please not growl anymore. And then later on he started implying that he has to mute himself to scream now, because *I* don't like it. And I was like... did you understand nothing from our discussion the other day? The point isn't that screaming while gaming is a nuisance to others, although that's true as well, it's that it's not a healthy reaction to playing a video game. He kept telling me that that's how he calms down, well if it's working so well, why does he need to do it so often lately? Where did this constant need to calm down while playing a video game come from? I mean, if it's bothering you that much that you need to "calm down" so many times in a day, then maybe you shouldn't be playing video games anymore, idk? Anyway I'm really not having any of his excuses, like I can't be babysitting a manchild's gaming tantrums at my age, sorry. And nothing I say to him goes through, so it's pointless to even try. We haven't even talked today, he hasn't even been trying to call me and idk how I feel about all of this.

But that's not even all of it. A short while after that I went to buy myself some takeout cause I didn't feel like cooking or eating leftovers again, and he texted me trying to act like nothing had happened. Every time I tell him something it's not enough, we have to have a WHOLE new fight about it for him to understand where I'm even coming from. I told him I'm not letting that go anytime soon, and then went out. While waiting on my order, I get a text from my mom asking me if I'm gonna go home to grandma on Christmas, adding casually that she actually lied about grandma saying anything about me or not wanting me there on Christmas/not wanting to talk to me, etc. I thought I was gonna fall face first onto the fast food shop floor. I haven't talked to my grandma in weeks because I thought she was part of this whole conspiracy game to cut me off, turns out grandma hadn't even said ANYTHING, and now my mom was casually telling me this IN DECEMBER when I'm sure I won't even be able to take any day off anywhere near the holidays. 😐 I was beyond infuriated and devastated, for her to lie to me like that I can overlook because she's done it before, but to involve MY GRANDMA too?? in her manipulation is just too far. I told her I was incredibly disappointed that she would lie to me like that, but she did agree with me and apologized, and I had to pretend to stop feeling hurt. But now I still don't know how I'm gonna call my grandma and tell her everything, and justify my silence for so long.

Setting: In the palace study, Navel is overexerting himself for information, and Orange is a bit concerned.

Characters: Navel, Orange, mentioned Citron, even less mentioned Tangerine

This one is lowkey very spoilery for that unposted fic that doesn't actually focus on them. Also, it might be unfinished. I The writer did add to it in attempt to finish it but idk.

Navel was seated at the study table. Zeroing in on one conversation took a lot out of him, but he had to know…

"What are you listening to?" Orange. Navel should've heard him enter.

"He's… not in town… that's probably obvious by now but…" Navel was trying not to miss much. "Father's gonna have someone check the grass plains… Guy–"

Orange's hands covered Navel's ears. "Stop."

"But–"

"You're straining yourself."

Navel relented. He was exhausted…

"I had the kitchen staff prepare you a snack. I made sure it was not poisoned."

"No one is going to try and poison us, especially not me." Not when he was barely a contender. Navel laid his head down on the table spotting the tray with the snack and tea. He could hear everything but it was all over lapping becoming loud, pretty much unintelligible noise. It hurt.

"You never know…" Ah he was still thinking about the mixup with Citronia's food. Orange had seemed to think it was a strange accident but never voiced as much to anyone who would do an investigation. He just always made a point to try food first, sometimes going as far to switch their plates once he's certain his own food tasted fine. Navel had even seen Orange snatch food from Tangerine's plate when opportunity permitted. But he seemed overall like he thought it would be weird to ask or make his poison taste testing obvious.

"Yea."

"Eat your snack."

"Heal my headache." Navel whined as he closed his eyes.

"You're such a child." The door closed, that helped a bit.

"Am not." If being a child meant he wasn't seen as a serious option as prince he didn't want that label. He renounced it.

"Sit up."

"Mm." Navel sat up.

"Not much but…" Orange put a cloth on Navel's head to cover his ears and placed earmuffs on top. It did help muffle and remove some sounds.

"It is enough."

"If we had a soundproofed room…"

"We should really soundproof your room."

Navel frowned. "Where do you think he is?"

"I am unsure. But probably off being stubborn somewhere." Orange seemed extra bothered… "Now, eat and then take a nap."

"Okay." Navel pouted. He took a sip of his tea then started eating. 

Wait, when did Citronia say that? Oh yea, the other morning when he had all those books…

"Orange."

"Yes?"

"I think he went to see fairies in the mountains."

"Huh?"

"The other morning… He had all these books. One was the history of fairies, one was on mountain ranges…" Though that didn't explain the rest of the books… Maybe they were traveling and camping? Did they have books on that?

"To see fairies?"

"Yes, do you think I should alert Father?" Navel started to get up. Mountains or not, it'd probably be useful. Orange grabbed onto him but he didn't say anything immediately. Navel looked at him. "Do you… not think I should say anything?"

… "I do not."

"But… Father is looking for him."

"Father is always looking for him."

"Yes but going so far away from the palace by himself… He's never gone so far out before. What if—"

"He chose this."

Navel was quiet. He didn't quite understand. This wasn't like when they spotted or heard him sneaking in or out of the palace and didn't say anything. This was different. So shouldn't they say something? 

"They are going to check all the boxes anyway, I see no point in you getting yourself involved." But Orange was well aware of the worst case scenarios, wasn't it something they should be concerned about? Was… Orange showing support for Citronia's decision or… was he waiting to see how this played out?

Navel pulled away. "Okay."

"And it would be most wise to not inform Tangerine of this either." That's right, Navel heard them agreeing to see the fairies together. What was Citronia thinking?

Running off into potential danger to see something he knows the rest of them… he knows Tangerine wanted to see too, alone. It's not important to see them in person, they could see them on tv.

If Navel stopped to think about it, there was probably good in this situation. Whenever the stars have it told of Citronia's return, Father will have to see how unfit he is to be next in line. What kind of Crown Prince goes mia without warning for such a selfish desire? Yes this would definitely give Orange a leg up. Everyone will see that Orange is much more responsible than Citronia.

…Navel was too but that was less important. Well it was… hm… the most important thing was that when Citronia returned he will have tarnished his own standing with their father at least.

If he returned.

If….. Navel shook his head. Of course he would. Stories and legends be darned, Citronia was born under a lucky star. So his worst case scenario was definitely being removed from the throne and even then that might not actually happen.

He looked at Orange who seemed elsewhere mentally. Navel hated when he didn’t fully get what Orange was thinking, but he would trust him. If Orange wanted to explain more he would. Whenever that would be, only the stars knew… Just like whenever Citronia returned.

Like I don't know AM I CRAZY DID I HALLUCINATE THAT?? Did something happen to her ummm yeah she's been bullied her whole life and you know that ???

- I feel like a big issue seems to be that they r cutting and rearranging things. Like why is Alpha once again like 'fuck I'm so shitty, idk my sisters' as if we didn't spend the entirety of last episode processing that and her other issues????

- SHE SMEARED A PLATE OF FOOD ON TON'S FACE?! Guys is she stressed 😥😥 she's not usually like that 😥😥 Yeah maybe cause usually people don't get in her personal space while she's visibly uncomfortable and don't let up. This whole arc is making me hate Ton and tbh everyone who isn't Aylin.

- Ton drawing a whole ass graph instead of connecting his two existing brain cells and saying sorry is sooooo infuriating. Genuinely if this ep doesn't end with Aylin expressing her discomfort at how everyone made her feel and them making conscious effort to improve I'm gonna kill someone.

- Friendship ended with aylinluna now sunlin is my only friend ☀️👽

- As much as I love the teachers I think at the core of it all everyone is giving Aylin advice from the wrong place. Like sure the problem will now be resolved in the show, but to me the viewer it does not actually feel resolved. I think that part of it is due to the fact that Aylin is very much coded to be an autistic character. Fyi I am neurotypical so I might also be looking at this wrong, but to me it feels like no one has rlly put themselves in her shoes and are just operating under assumptions that don't consider that fact: I'm like u, i used to be like u, i used to be different blabla

- At the end of the day imo the issue was never Aylin, while the intent of encouraging her to socialize was good, it is also important to respect a person's boundaries and throughout this episode this has not been acknowledged once. It drives me crazy that everyone seems to be taking the approach of we r so worried abt Aylin, what's going on with her as if she hadn't been doing her best to socialize with everyone in her own capacity until a person she trusted put her in a situation where someone she doesn't know that well clearly overstepped.

if someone finds me on tumblr then i gotta end it all. just somewhere to speak my mind, hopefully find relief for the thoughts having. i keep thinking someone is coming behind me but its 12:30. i find myself in a redundant cycle of "attachment" issues with people, i want to leave the only real "friends" i have and just be myself, or just ghost everyone i know because everything so far has just been a waste of time. all the time shared with my friends was for nothing as i realize i "don't even really like them". I start thinking that and it's not real, it's not true, it's probably not honest. I see everyones lives progressing and moving in a great direction, the way id want mine to be but it feels like i just keep getting held back for a reason. i keep feeling like i have no real attachment to these people. at the end of the day, after all the things we do and say like getting food and laughing or making fun of other people, there is nothing solid between and any of them. they all wanna hang out with each other and some people just between them, but never everyone. sometimes i'm excluded and usually i get it; people do their own thing and i shouldn't be reliant on others for my happiness but they are supposed to be -my friends-. when i'm bored i talk with -my friends-, when i want to hang out i message -my friends-, when i have problems i can tell -my friends-. it's not like that tho and i get i can't have it they way "I want to", i just wish i some form of that. it feels like everyone has a much stronger bond to each other except me. i'm a loose end, it doesn't matter that much if i am there when they're hanging out or not. it seems like everyone has that thing to back to, that thing to fall back onto, that safety pad but i don't. I can't explain it that well but i will try. i don't think i'm close with anyone enough to rely on them the way everyone has/does.

i feel lonely around this time of year, it's annoying. i have been telling myself i dont need anyone for a long time, now it feels like the castle of lies ive built for myself is coming crashing down. i think someone like me, someone in my situation or in my position should have a kind of person like that, but no. idk why i think especially me but i think that would be nice. it would be great to have that sort of connection. its so late jeez work tmr too. i think ive been trying to fill my time/ keep my myself busy to avoid feeling like this. it has worked so far but it feels the effect just wore off. maybe this is a moment of weakness but the feelings have stuck with me for some time. iv'e had these thoughts many times before but never got them together and written them down. again, i wish i could tell someone i trust this instead.

my worst fear coming from this is that my friends will move on past me and hang out with each other because they are closer or have more similar personalities. i know our friends aren't perfect but it feels like their flaws are being amplified right now. i gotta brush my teeth.

ok done. my airpods are shit too. had some time to reflect and these thoughts will probably age poorly, whatever. i think i said "but" too much, its ok. i think this form of venting is helpful for me because it's like im telling someone this. i know no one is gonna see it yet it feels like the only way to could actually relieve myself from the dark room my mind is in rn. i hope it gets better. its 1am. idc we up already so long atp couple minutes cant make much difference. I wish someone was there for me emotionally. i dont think i have a "ton of baggage" but for the basic stuff. i dont know how my mom does it. just her, for years. she has more actual problems too. she is the strongest no doubt.

it doesn't seem like anyone actually wants -me-. if we are talking about making jokes, playing the game, music making talk, it's great. but when it comes to real, deep, ego-hurting feelings we all have, im a ghost. no one turns to me or think i need someone to turn to.

you know it might actually be partly my fault for not being vulnerable but that's only because i have some trust issues i think. just wish i had that one person, that ride or die, that go out "guns-a-blazin" person. im 16 now and im feeling like i might never get that person for myself. its like there was a pre-partner choosing period that i missed and now that we started, i'm stuck by myself.

im definitely not ugly or anything like that so i dont issues of that stuff, its purely rejection. lets say if i start talking to a girl i like, what i think very likely will happen will be this: we start talking, i do most of talking, the start and end of the conversation. she is clearly not interested in me but is just messaging because shes bored. she tells her friends about how i keep messaging her and dont stop. i try to move past the talking stage and she shuts it down. things are weird with us and i try to talk to someone about it and *poof*. nothing.

this music is really my main thing 🤞🏾. listening to it and making it has been there everyday for me for years. people must think i have it figured it out, right? There isn't a support system for this stuff. I MEAN theres OBVIOUSLY the "yo ur music is acc fire" comments all the time which i am honestly grateful for but it doesn't seem like anyone truly cares about this shit as much i do at all and you know, that's ok. if that was my only issue i had, id be that guy fr. it's just another thing.

i hope i find it tho, so badly, i think it would be such a positive impact on my life. maybe this music shit could get me that attention im so badly craving but probably not. is that it tho? am i just craving attention? is the lack of attention in my life effecting everything else? i hope this inspires me to go find that someone. i essentially want that special someone is what ive been trying to say this whole time but when i say it like this, i just think "wow buddy, you and everyone else".

I think part of this might just be the fact that like... I've done my best to perfect the art of how to appreciate crumbs LOL. I got some crumbs, and they were tasty! & I'm just sitting here glad that it didn't taste bad, you know, I'm a very "well it could always be Worse" about things sometimes... which is verrry different from how I approached kfp3, so like, I guess I was "Too Successful" at lowering my expectations in a way, dhsdhjds, but I'm glad I got to dodge Major disappointment thanks to this approach. I've just like. something something inner peace, ability to ignore/dodge subpar stuff's ability to Hurt me so long as it's not extreeeemely over the top bad. so. hm. lol. Like, I'm not gonna let stuff bother me, I'm just gonna take whatever bits I might like & Go. As long as I'm not outright offended by stuff or whatever.

I've seen people saying stuff about like how Shifu got sidelined in this movie and whatnot, and it's interesting comparing those complaints to how chill I was with his presence/role. I have balanced expectations where like, I'm never gonna expect him to have the same level of prominence that he did in the first movie, cuz the first movie was different in its need to feature him heavily. His role as a supporting cast member is understandably less prominent in the following movies and I get that. So my instinctive thought is like "sidelined? I mean he wasn't in movies 2 and 3 that much either, so". And I always remember him as "barely" having been in the second movie (we must keep in mind though, it being the first movie to come after how much he was in movie 1, it would feel like a lot less screentime to me, & did for that reason). but. The more that I think about it..., I mean he was There for the cannonball stuff/confrontation in 2. He was There at other points. he definitely had stuff to do & a role to play...

So I'm just kind of sitting here Realising that I could have reasonably expected more, but I didn't, and was thus satisfied with this one aspect in terms of what's there.

Because again. Instead of basically having any measure of expectations at all walking into this thing, I was more like "please do not ruin my favourite character beyond repair". & that didn't happen so I was like. fine. I got some more content. I was entertained. idk.

It shouldn't really be like this though, obviously. Like, I shouldn't have to lower my expectations to the absolute bare minimum and then just brush off any stuff (e.g. the plot/pacing overall) that does bother me.

I mean, I didn't want this movie in the first place; I saw the cracks showing in 3 + it was a good solid ending/closing off of the series, so I reeeeeally wanted them to stop there. And they didn't, so here we are, I just didn't want them to take a sledgehammer to the characters/world that they did have built - and one could argue that 4 really does undercut the characters/world of what's come before. My personal favourite character imo has managed to dodge that though so I'm just like. Appreciating the small things. Which, huh. I seem to have gotten way too good at doing these days, huh. :P Well, if they're going to insist on giving me more scenes I'll appreciate what I can. I'm just worried that the tasty crumbs are gonna become expired food soon if they keep it up.

This movie could've been great if they did it right... there's no law saying that sequels Have to be bad... there's just... a bunch of forces e.g. economic etc pushing it in the direction of being bad... :')

The fact that they're supposedly already working on a 5th film fills me with such dread. cuz I'm so tired lol. I just managed to make it out of this movie Happy but idk if that can persist. gah

Anyway, on some reflection I've come to understand people's complaints about Shifu being sidelined and whatnot. I'm just gonna hold onto being happy with what I got though honestly. & I mean, idk.

Honestly. I think I just like. forgot how Good and Fun 2&3 were and I was underestimating how good his moments in those two were. and thinking back im like Hold On... maybe 4 IS a notable downgrade in terms of his character. It's been a while since I properly revisited the previous movies as well (!) so that would absolutely be a contributing factor too, like, I'm a little Rusty on it and then seeing the fourth movie is my refresher on the character, etc.

Because there was a little while there where I was wondering how Other Shifu fans would feel about his characterisation in this film. Right now I don't really have other opinions from like, fans of him specifically, to adequately weigh my feelings/thoughts against. I have seen more than one person also picking up on/commenting on how he suddenly seems to backtrack in this film though, so.

When something is Brand New, it's practically always gonna have that shine of novelty about it, you know? So I could walk away from the first viewing happy because Wow New Content !. And on reflection I'm like okay yeah maybe I AM cheering on crumbs. But like... I'd rather be happy cheering on those crumbs than be miserable wishing for what could have been. and don't get me wrong we could have had so much. but. I'm not gonna waste too much time angsting on that. I've long made peace with it XD

So first off. My condolences to Tigress fans + people who are big fans of the Furious Five. And I mean – the Furious Five are were (?! 😭) core cast members, they’re great and fun characters, so I can absolutely understand the outrage of them just not being there AT ALL. In fact… idk their absence is weird in that it does feel less like kung fu panda without them. I take the view that what Matters is the movie being good, so if you have a movie that’s good, you can get away with certain characters* not being there if they wouldn’t serve an otherwise good plot. You can’t really say that’s the case with this movie though, because its pacing etc had much to be desired. So… yeah. You kicked them out but then the movie still wasn’t even good?? 😭And they didn’t even get a little scene they got nothing!! 😭No speaking scene I mean!

*Certain characters when I’m not completely obsessed with them (LOL). Because I, like anyone, am BIASED, my point here is that’s the “objective” take, but subjectively it absolutely sucks when your personal fave isn’t there so I really do sympathise. If shifu wasn’t in the fourth movie at all, I, too, would be extremely upset and furious. So fans of the Five have every right to be personally unhappy with their absence. For example if Shifu was absent from a Good kfp movie because he wouldn’t contribute to the Good plot, “objectively” that makes sense from a writing pov. Subjectively, I would still be personally unhappy with it.

ANYWAY. So now for analysis/discussion from a more character-focused pov/being biased in terms of my focus!

I mean, Shifu’s my fave, put him onscreen and don’t completely mess it up and there’s a good chance I’m just happy to see him again. And I was pleased to see him again. Ahah… What can I say? I’m a shifu fan… XD

Anyway. He’s SO not having a fun time dhsdjhsdsd I’m. god. Still getting my thoughts together about this. I have sorrrrt of mixed feelings/am of two worlds.

I did really enjoy his scenes. He’s actually kind of a mess honestly omggg. It kinda took me by surprise and I was actually very amused. I can’t help it he’s why I’m here LOL.

So like yes on the one hand I absolutely did accept and enjoy his scenes. On the other hand I was a bit surprised because… Well. Movies 1-3 did seem to have him on a clear trajectory of getting better and becoming more chill. He’s very Not Chill in this. You could make an argument that the whole “Oogway choosing Po as his spiritual successor” is a/the major issue that’s set back his progress in this movie, is why he’s clearly Not Fine (however much he might claim otherwise ckjdjkdsjk), etc. Because he only gets hit with that knowledge/information at the end of movie 3. The whole fact that he’s been kind of “overlooked” by Oogway (or at least, kind of skipped over technically…) and is now technically “surpassed” by Po, etc etc.

However, the above is all Watsonian analysis. From a Doylist point of view, I doooo think he has been Flanderised a bit. Feels like he’s just kind of been stuck/shoved into the box/role of grumpy “least-zen zen master” without much room to move about. It does feel like he had a lot more room/leeway before with his character/characterisation than he seems to have now…? And idk how to feel about it. Because like… I still really enjoyed his scenes in this movie, I loved it. So I don’t actually have any personal issues/complaints with it, I guess I do just feel like it can be “overdone”, if he really is thoroughly boxed-in like this. If his character has been simplified down/exaggerated… There are potential concerns with that but like, again. I loved him in this movie.

I mean I guess it just comes down to some mixed feelings on my end. Because I was getting this sense of “okay this kind of seems like… a bit overdone on the characterisation. But at the same time… I still love this characterisation” dhsdhjas? Hmmm. Still mulling over it. But I had fun! On an analytical level, I recognised that this movie had flaws, and that Shifu’s characterisation can be symptomatic of an overall downgrading of writing quality/handling of the characters in general. On the level of Being A Fan, I am a little baby being mesmerised by car keys being jangled in front of me.

It's also just kind of Funny to learn just how badly he’s doing. I thought he was Fine I really overestimated how well-adjusted he was at this point sdhsajksdakjsad god I. Mixed thoughts but I truly did love his scenes for the most part. Oughhh.

The fact that he’s now officially confirmed/clarified In Canon that he’s a red panda is hilarious. It took them four movies to do it. It’s been MANY years. But people having no clue what kind of animal he is over and over again, piggybacking off that… Man I loved it.

Hhhhhh yeah. Gonna keep mulling it over.

& I did feel catered to as a Shifu fan, by virtue of the fact that He Was There (I am the baby looking at the jangling car keys). So like, that would have affected my overall experience of the movie As A Whole in ways too! Because you can’t completely separate subjective from "objective". The movie itself could be lackluster but I could still be like “yesss Shifu” if I enjoy his individual scenes, etc. So tbh I had a great time, if only for that. I wanted to see him again and I did, LOL.

And like idk, if I fine-tooth-comb comparison his characterisation in previous installments vs this one, maybe I will come up with discrepancies or whatnot, and I guess one of my concerns is like, even if I was totally fine with how he was written in this movie, it raises concerns about how he might be portrayed in any future media, etc, so I’m just kinda wary? Idk. But tbh I had fun. That’s what matters.

Okay, let's set the scene, shall we? You arrive to find that, with our playthroughs anyway, your ex has barged into your home. I say "barged in" because although we (Geralt) know that Yen's help is necessary and she'll be tagging along, the other witchers living there are given no prior warning and, according to Vesemir, Yen teleported in without so much as a "Hello." She then immediately starts ordering everyone around like her servants, failing to explain the situation beyond there being a curse that they have to help with. No, this isn't negotiable. She (still being an ex) takes your old room for herself, which just happens to be the biggest in the keep, and proceeds to toss a bed out the window. It's only later that Vesemir recalls that Triss used to use it, so prior to that everyone apparently just accepted that Yen was destroying their stuff for no understandable reason. Classic Yen. You go upstairs to find her cursing a blue streak at her failed experiment and when you try to lighten the mood, she snaps at you. If you're of the opinion that Yen's every order must be obeyed, this is when you're supposed to drop the conversation entirely, because she said to. Except, funnily enough, you'd like to know why she's up here being The Worst Guest Ever and destroying your property. She tries to justify this by saying that destroying a bed is better than how she could be dealing with her anger over Triss. Be grateful and all that. Except, it's not really about Triss, is it? The line is "You shagged my friend. For upwards of a year. I don't know what your witcher's code says on the matter, but ordinary folk would consider it obscene, base, vile." The blame is not on the woman who knowingly manipulated Geralt into having sex with her while he was vulnerable, it's on Geralt himself! He is the "obscene, base, vile" person for... daring to have amnesia? And when you point that out - "Yen... told you already. I lost my memory" - she yells that she's "lost [her] patience" and teleports you into a lake! This is, apparently, how she really wants to deal with her anger. Not by destroying beds, but by attacking you for things outside of your control. And I do consider it an attack. Yen is meant to be insanely powerful, she is leveraging her magic as a weapon here, particularly when Geralt has spent the whole game commenting on how much he hates portals. Yen knows this. Not just because he says so in her presence, but because she frequently reads his mind, something else he's expressed discomfort with. She's not just demonstrating her power (controlling) and sending him away when he makes a point she doesn't want to acknowledge (immature), she chooses the one thing she knows makes Geralt uncomfortable, perhaps even scared. Then when you've swum your way back to shore and returned to, despite all this, begin her list of chores, she makes a dry comment about how next time she just might drop you high enough for the fall to be fatal. With the next time implied to be, you know, the next time you disagree with her. The next time you dare to do anything other than agree with her every belief and jump at her every command.

The fandom interpretation of all this: "Lol Geralt getting yeeted is so funny. And their banter is just 😍"

You mentioned red flags and yeah like that ENTIRE SCENE is a crimson banner for me. I mean, by all means, love the fictional ships that are super messed up (I often do), but it astounds me how many fans honestly think this is just a cute interaction with absolutely no problems attached. Nothing to question here, folks. I've mentioned before, but last I discussed this in depth the asker wanted to know if I'd been an asshole to Yen and... that's it. That's the perspective. Any disagreement with her, any pushback, anything that's not complete, blind obedience is something she will not permit AND something most fans take as a given. If you're not doing what Yen tells you to, you're automatically the asshole, and if you're the asshole, you automatically deserve any punishment she chooses to dish out.

Comic spoilers coming up if you want to skip, but this is made abundantly clear in "Curse of Crows." Yen and Geralt are at their best in the moment below, enjoying one another's company on a nice day. Yen asks if Geralt wants to swim and he says nah, he'd rather watch her. She appears to like that idea and, indeed, swims naked while Geralt admires from the shore.

Actually cute right? I really liked this moment! They're cuddled up together and exchanging smiles. It's a rare moment of peace where I can believe that they truly care for one another, outside of passionate sex and not wanting the other dead. Finally, something beyond that incredibly low bar.

...except Yen starts flirting with a young man who shows up, invites him to travel with them, all while refusing to explain why she's interested in his company. The sudden third wheel is clearly bothering Geralt, but Yen continues to ignore his questioning. The answer she finally gives later that night?

She did it purely to mess with Geralt! It's his "just desserts" for "refusing to swim with [her]." She is "not one to be refused - I thought you needed reminding" by giving him "a flick on the nose." When I say that Yen treats Geralt like a dog I mean she literally treats him like a dog. He's a servant who must jump at her every command and if he doesn't, he'll punished for disobedience. He might not even know why he's being punished for a long stretch because Yen enjoys making him think she's a normal person capable of accepting that he doesn't feel like swimming right now - insert the Kaer Morhen scene where she wants to go have sex upstairs, but Geralt wants to catch up with the brothers he hasn't seen in an age here - only to reveal that actually she's made their formerly nice outing uncomfortable because he needs to be put in his place. All of which is followed by, "So... willing to join me now?" The message is very clear! Geralt had better get his ass in that tub unless he wants to be punished some more. Whether he wants a bath right now or not is inconsequential.

This is also the run where she scares the women Geralt was with, despite them being separated right now. Why? "I could."

Claims that Geralt is allowed to return to his companions (who he actually waves away) only for him to realize she's cast a spell to burn him with the water. Yen loves pretending she's okay with things only to punish Geralt for them later - sometimes with physical punishments. And what would have happened if the women had actually joined him again? Do witchers weather hot water better than the average courtesan? Who knows, but Yen clearly doesn't care who might get hurt.

Just like her time in Skellige and at Kaer Morhen, she refuses to explain what's going on. She just expects people to obey her, so-called loved ones included. Geralt was to get her cider, and arrive before her bath went cold, not question what they're doing on this dangerous hunt. He's a servant.

And my favorite, petty moment: transforming her awful inn food into a lavish meal without offering to do the same for either Geralt or Ciri.

"But, Clyde, that's just the comics. They're not really canon." Nah, questions of canon aside, this is 100% Yen's characterization. She's prideful. Immature. Beyond controlling. And punishes anyone who dares to tell her "No." Fans are always pointing out that she's meant to be horrible, she could have been a villain in another life, like any of that explains why I'm supposed to root for this relationship or enjoy her existence outside of being a complex character. Yen is interesting, but she's interesting in a "I can't wait to see her get her own just desserts" way. Not "Wooo now I get to watch this story ignore her behavior again to push a True Love narrative."

She punished Geralt frequently during their first meeting, she punishes him whenever they get together, and, I think, she punished him during the reunion with Ciri. Given our playthroughs, do we really think that after breaking up with her and all this fury over Triss - an anger so deep she destroyed the bed and attacked Geralt - she's just overcome with such joy that she forgets they're not together anymore and forgets the anger she's been nurturing for years? Yen doesn't forget. She's staring at Ciri during that moment, right where Triss is currently running towards them, and then after a considering look at Geralt pulls him in for that kiss. That was calculated. She did that to make a claim she no longer had. To punish them both: make Triss uncomfortable by playing at the "perfect" family reunion; make Geralt uncomfortable by kissing him when she knows he doesn't feel the same way. But of course, the popular reading is that she just loves him so much she couldn't help herself. Riiight.

It's just all SO BAD. (Including, as you say, the ickiness of having Triss lusting after Geralt and referring to Ciri as "little sis.") I love a lot of the women in Witcher - Cerys is a fave, Ciri, Saskia, Philippa, Keira, etc. - but the two I'm supposedly meant to fall in love with are just the worst lol.
