Souma: hm~m, we have spread our resources to cover more ground, so I had thought that the likelihood of discovering something pertinent would have been quite high, but...that does not seem to be the case.  

Kuro: well, no sense in stressing out about it - if that’s the way it is, then there’s not much that we can do t’ change it.  

Souma: true enough.  And today, at long last, we have an opportunity to make use of the training hall once again.  That activity is always an optimal way to clear the mind and shrug off any lingering troublesome thoughts.  

Kiryu-dono, shall we have a practice match today --

Hiiro: woah!?  That was kind of a surprise, huh?  My bad!  I almost ran smack into you because I wasn’t watching where I was going.

Many people have had these experiences, so we have been trying to find some sort of explanation.  Do you happen to know anything?

Hiiro: huh, this is the first time I’ve heard of anything like that.  But y’know, considering what some of those ‘rumors’ are...

Kuro: huh, d’ya have an idea?

Hiiro: maybe.  A lot of those things kinda sound like they’d be caused by Mayoi-senpai.

It’s very quiet so even the smallest sounds can be heard.

Hehe. Right now, I’ve asked them to make this room soundproof for my idol practice sessions since I don’t want the noise to bother others.

In the past, when I was young, I could hear it all so well. The singing, their rhythmic footsteps that hit the floor, your laughter and chatter.

To me, those voices were like whispers of a fairy from a different world far, far away.

Just like the people who wanted to see the full moon or aurora, I would look up above me and think about what sort of place it is every single day.

I’d imagine what your world would be like.

The world where your beautiful ensemble rings true.

And one day, I couldn’t hold it back any longer – I snuck out of the underground and wandered around, but I was caught and treated like some being from a school ghost story.

But even having rumours spread about me made me happy.

I could only watch you all from afar but it felt like we had a connection – even if it was a miniscule one.

Today in my discord chat: 

IT’S DUNKING ON BSD GAIDEN TIME AND EVERYONE IS WELCOME

....honestly, though, I think we have every right, given Gaiden doesn’t ascribe to the standards that BSD’s main story has. 

Ayatsuji’s ability goes against the very core theme principles of Bungo Stray Dogs, denying any culprit caught to reform or atone for what they’ve done, because now they’re dead. 

I can’t emphasise that enough, by the way - I don’t know how to properly state how much I hate his ability, when contrasted with the theme of “no matter what you’ve done in the past, you can change and become a better person.” It’s just awful.

He also belittles and taunts Tsujimura, in uncomfortable ways. (“Shall I tell them the bad man was being mean to you?” and “If you’re just going to stand there, shall I get you a maid costume?”.)

Tsujimura herself is also... well, in Dead Apple and the BSD manga where she’s learning from Ango on the job, she’s professional and trying her best. I respect her. I like her. In Gaiden, however... that seems to be replaced with immaturity and an inability to be professional, or respected by either her peers or the person she’s supposed to be guarding.

In the Mayoi prologue, she gets belittled by Ayatsuji multiple times, being told that she should be able to keep up with him. In the manga, I’ve seen her get called out for basically wanting the justice system to be able to prosecute and punish the culprit of a case and ‘not remembering’ that Ayatsuji’s ability kills said culprit. 

She - multiple times, in both the prologue and the manga - says about how she wants to be ‘like a movie star’ and that’s why she’s here, which... is not something she should still be thinking. Not when taking extremely dangerous jobs for the government. Realistically speaking, this mindset should have been drummed out of her in her training. That she still has it makes her appear immature and unprofessional.

She gets called out by her own colleagues for being late, with them saying she was “lectured again”, which to me, they shouldn’t do while on the job. Maybe off the clock, when no one’s looking. But not on the job.

Overall - I suggested that Gaiden would be a more interesting story if Ayatsuji were a woman (preferably older, tbh) since to me there aren’t enough female characters with grey morality who are seen as dangerous for something other than their sexuality. And also, if Tsujimura were someone different from the character as seen in Dead Apple and the BSD main series, with a new name and ability. This person would be a young man, who thinks he’s hot stuff, who was somehow able to get through training while still holding onto the idea of being a ‘movie star spy agent’, and gets those ideas thoroughly shot down the first time he and Ayatsuji start working together. And yet, at the same time, I would still want this alternate ‘Tsujimura’ to be given more respect than the one I’ve seen in the Gaiden prologue and manga.

Just... dear god, it’s an absolute train wreck.

Since “ALKALOID” has grown after experiencing “SS”, I feel I can finally be a part of them if I do that.

Ritsu: “Alrighty. Having the spirit to challenge things is what’s most important ♪”

“And judging from what you’ve said, this world seems to be within a game. Even if you do something rash, you shouldn’t lose your life.”

“I’m sure you’ll be able to obtain the ‘legendary sword’ now.”

Mayoi: Yes. We’re in a game right now. It might be hard to jump across such a distance in real life, but since we’re in a game, perhaps a miracle can happen.

I’ll jump over. If I do my best and still end up failing, that’ll still be better than doing nothing and pushing all the troublesome things onto them.

Tatsumi: Hehe. Judging by all the contributions you’ve made to the unit so far, I don’t think you need to be so humble about it.

Sora: “Yes. That’s a valuable item from the ‘Queen’s Island’ – ‘The Queen’s Eau de Cologne’ ♪”

Aira: Hm? This is a “Cocktail Piano” perfume, right? The one that “Knights” became an ambassador of recently!

Sora: “No. This is a personal belonging of the Queen’s – it’s just a ‘treasure’~”

“But maybe you’ll need it to complete the ‘Phantom Airship’! Sora hopes you’ll take good care of it~♪”

Hiiro: Hmm. I don’t really understand but we should listen to what Sora-kun tells us to do.

We were able to clear this island with Aira’s help, so would you be able to keep it for us, Aira?

Sora: “HaHa~♪ Thanks for waiting, everyone. This is the first island!”

Hiiro: Island…?

I don’t see it. Is this really the right place?

Aira: Yeah. This is obviously some sort of boutique. It doesn’t give off fantasy vibes at all…

Sora: “HiHi~ This is just how we do things!”

“The seven islands on the ‘Phantom Airship’ have all sorts of different cultures on them – they’re not all based on a fantasy theme!”

“It makes it easier to tell the difference between them so it’s like hitting two birds with one stone –The inventors sure did a good job~♪”

Mayoi: Umm… that felt more like an excuse as opposed to a point of detail. Does that mean this island is a boutique?

Sora: “HuHu~♪ This island is called the ‘Queen’s Island’!”

“The ‘Queen’ who rules over this island loves cute things and has a castle full of them. That’s the backstory for this island~♪”

Aira: Ohh, the backstory sounds like something straight from a fantasy novel, at least.

Tatsumi: Yes. But a certain person has come to mind when you mentioned the “Queen’s Island”.

Arashi: “Ehehe. Welcome, travellers. Her Majesty the ‘Queen’ has come to welcome you all in person ♪”

Aira: Narukami-senpai!

Tatsumi: Hehe. I’ve heard that it's an NPC, but it feels as though the real Arashi-san is here.

Arashi: “The real Arashi? What? Are you saying there are fake Arashis around?”

“Well, nevermind that. The one thing I seek is beauty… In any case, you four will have to undergo an an inspection for entering this island ♪”

Hiiro: Hmm. An inspection…?

We’ve already entered the castle but we have to do an inspection right now?

Arashi: “Oh. Oh my oh my oh my…!”

Hiiro: ?

Arashi: “Have you four entered through illegal means!? No one is allowed to enter my castle without my permission if they’re not beautiful!”

“I’ve decided. If you cannot prove your beauty to me, then it’s off with your head!”

Aira: Whaaaaat!? How did things come to that!? This is crazy!

Why would you say that!? That logic is way too cruel!

Sora: “HeHe~ That’s how things work here!”

Aira: A–Are you sure this is okay? You’re lucky you get to cover everything up with that one phrase…!

Sora: “Yes! Sora is acting exactly as programmed so this isn’t a bug~”

“Anyway, if you want to enter the ‘Queen’s Island’, there is a trial you must pass.”

“The ‘Queen’ seeks all things that are beautiful so all you have to do is show your skills of expression you’ve cultivated over the years as an idol~♪”

Arashi: “Ehehe. You sure know me well…♪”

“Everyone, stand in front of the mirror and strike a pose. If I deem your pose beautiful, then you shall enter free of punishment ♪”

“And… I’ll let you use the accessories in this castle. Your current look is somewhat unsightly.”

Tatsumi: Hmm… In other words, this is a “visual” trial.

We mustn’t let things be game over from the very beginning, so let’s take on this challenge.

Aira: T-Tattsun-senpai, you’re so calm… I’m guessing you’ve gotten used to the game?

Tatsumi: Well, there aren’t any cruel trials such as this one in the bible. I understand this is a world before human rights were established.

Mayoi: Uuu, if I was born in such a world, I think I would be persecuted. VR feels oddly real so it feels even worse for my heart…

Tatsumi: Well, it’s a video game, after all. Let’s think of it as if it’s allowing us to feel the warmth of the real world, despite the fact that we’re in an imaginary one.

In any case, this is the time to show how far we’ve grown as idols, everyone.

Hiiro: Indeed. I agree.

We didn’t come onboard the “Phantom Airship” because we wanted to enjoy the video game – we’re here to do a job.

To be frank, I still don’t believe it when I hear that there are people who look up to us… but if those people do indeed exist, then there’s no way I wouldn’t do my best for them.

Mayoi: Y-You’re right… I cannot cause you all to lag behind because of me, so I shall also work hard.
