Them having Mike in this purple-magenta-blue palette when the first two have never been part of his repertoire is…hmm. It’s so abnormal for him. I noticed it with the first sweater but with these new pics it seems like it’s not a one-time occurrence so I’m cautiously deeming it worth pointing out because to me…it does look kinda like bi flag shades 😅 I don’t fully subscribe to this kind of evidence but a) there is precedent for ST costuming leaving sexuality hints in clothing & b) I just think it’s interesting in the season he’s suspected to be revealed as queer they coincidentally start dressing him all 🩷💜💙. I’m not attached to any one opinion in the gay/bi Mike discourse so this isn’t trying to prove a point just…noticing interesting things.

Mike’s palette is blue-yellow-green-red so it’s really strange seeing him in these outfits. It’s interesting how in his ep 1/2 fit he’s still in his normal palette but then something changes? We have no idea what of course except…the first sweater seemingly goes on around the time him & El get separated into different groups (farm). I did see someone say he’s wearing purple because of El but you can read my tags to debunk that lol

it’s actually so wild to me that this fairly quirky YA type show gave both of its main characters deaths that can, in one way or another, solidly be considered hate crimes. they were both flat out murdered as a result of being A) gay and effeminate or B) brown (south asian, specifically) and you could argue whether or not those kids thought of it that way in the moment or whatever but the bottom line is that they would not have been in the situations that killed them if they weren’t of their respective minorities. like legitimately that is a ballsy choice for this kind of netflix show, let alone for the two Main Characters, and i respect it big time

Something I’ve been thinking about lately is that small moment in “Air Turtle” where immediately after the Daves lose yet another game, Leo says how sorry he is and how he’s doing his best as the mascot. This moment is so short but it’s honestly jam-packed with a whole heap of characterization.

His need to apologize for things clearly not his fault - especially when it feels like he messes up the job he was given despite doing the best he can (the phrase “it’s not about you” takes a new meaning when this is one of the lessons to be learned from that - that he is not always solely responsible for things going wrong), his need to save face and make a connection with an older adult man in his life (something he consistently does throughout the series - he’s got a few daddy issues, always collecting potential father figures, it’s no wonder he jumps at the bit to keep rapport), and the way he sounds and looks and the words he chooses really pushes how he is just a kid (“Mr. the Dunk, I’m so sorry”).

Like I know it’s a one off moment that doesn’t truly mean much, but when put against the rest of the series it works really well with the rest of Leo’s established character and helps in solidifying later concepts as well.
