July 21st 1969. Edwin, eyelids fluttering shut, yields to his gravity. Lips sealed over lips, Edwin opens, and Thomas fills him with his air, his smoke, that thick, heady tang, passed from mouth to mouth. Edwin draws it steadily into his lungs, a smile teasing the corners of his mouth at the thought of how he would have coughed it back into Thomas’ face when they first made their acquaintance. He doesn’t partake on his own time, but he has long learned to embrace the little luxuries Thomas brings into his life for what they are to him; gifts from far-off lands. Be it South America, Spain, or simply the streets of Soho; each as distant as the next to Edwin, holed up in his esoteric bunker. “Mm.” Thomas breaks away with a sigh. “Sounds like you're screwed.” Edwin exhales, eyes flickering open to watch the smoke curl from their lips to the ceiling. Mingling amongst the garlanded string-lights Thomas had conjured into being with a snap of his fingers for 'mood lighting', blurring them, swirling them. Their own little galaxy. He plucks the joint from Thomas’ fingertips, neatly, and tucks it between his own lips with a sly smile. “I certainly hope to be.”

I used to tell people about this revelation and they'd be like yeah.....duh.....but like, why wouldn't my base assumption be that you're communicating to me in a straightforward manner. anyway, I get scammed a lot.

I'm knitting in the corner at a party

and guys my age stop by to tell me I remind them of their aunt, of their grandmother. This is a compliment and I take it as such. They confess to having tried crochet once, and I smile. They get back in line for the bathroom.

I'm knitting in the corner at a party and a queer woman sits on the floor next to me, arranges her skirt, and smiles up at me. (I try not to blush.) She asks me all the questions on her mind about my craft and I answer them, hands still moving. We swap yarn sources. She doesn't stay, but she knows where to find me.

I'm knitting in the corner at a party and everyone knows where to find me when they need a minute, when socializing is too much and the music is too loud and they need to catch their breath. They pretend to be checking in on me, which is sweet, but I can see the relief in their eyes the moment they stop performing for a house full of people. They sit down and tell me things and all the while they never take their eyes off my hands.

The party has wound down and I'm still knitting and the hosts, two guys in their twenties, thank me for "helping to curate the vibe." I had no idea that's what I was doing. I leave the party having forgotten to drink anything and without that woman's number but with many rows added to my top-down raglan sweater. I call it a night, and a good one.

Keeper -- a short comic about an angel meeting a robotic lighthouse keeper that doesn't know the world has already ended. Made in about 18 hours for a 24-hour 24-page* black and white comic challenge (that I arrived late to, ha.)

*the actual submission does not include the cover, which was created after the fact for this post.

This was a really great learning experience as someone who's... never really made a completed comic. I ended up really attached to the story by the end of the project (possibly due to all-nighter deliriousness lol) and ultimately am very proud of what I made.There are some things I'd still like to change, particularly text placement, but in keeping with the spirit of the challenge I've elected to leave it as is.
