The amount of research that went into making The Ancient Magus Bride is just fucking incredible. As someone raised pagan, the shit that it covers has me astounded at the stuff they get right word for word. They don't take bits and pieces to build their own story it's literally based off of Celtic mythology and folklore.
Not to mention the representation!! It doesn't come right out and say anything but there's LITERALLY an autistic character that wears headphones and goggles for sensory reasons. Plus every other character I see is like, trans trans trans trans
I think half of these individuals probably give absolutely no fucks about pronouns and don't even have a huge grasp on gender just cuz they're not even human or they're so old they just stopped caring.
They literally have a character that was a native and it talks about the struggles of modern society treating the natives like shit
THEY CALL THE CHRISTIAN GOD THE CONQUERER GOD
Oh my god and don't even get me started on the amazing way they're handling mental health struggles.
Just,
AAAAAAAAAAA

Hi mark. There were a few people who had commented on the technology and aesthetic of Duskmourne and how it feels too close to the present, referencing planes like Capenna or Neo-kamigawa as other examples of modernity in Magic’s fantasy setting. Because I am the main character and my opinion is the most important one, I thought I’d give my two cents on the topic.
Although kamigawa and capenna are obviously more “modern” than a plane like innistrad, they still don’t feel like “now”. By definition, sci-fi is not modern. Although Neon kamigawa doesn’t feel like high fantasy, it doesn’t feel “modern” to me either, it’s too far in the future. In the opposite direction, Capenna feels too far in the past to feel “modern”. Yeah, arc spitter is a Tommy gun and the treasure token is a martini glass, but it still doesn’t feel like the present. My grandpa wasn’t even born until after the end of prohibition. Time period Capenna is based on was literally a century ago. Sure the aesthetic isn’t as far back in history as the aesthetic of a knight in shining armor, but it’s still far enough back that it feels like “another time”, at least to me.
I think the reason those two planes pass the vibe check is because they feel different enough from modern day. TV’s have existed since the late 1920’s, so it would have been historically accurate if the plane themed around 1920s America had TVs. but that still *feeeeeels* wrong. The vibes are off. Yeah sci fi japan would probably have cell phones or something, but that just feels wrong. In other words, fantasy (to me) isn’t about looking like lord of the rings, it’s about NOT looking like everyday life.
This is where Duskmourne comes in. I wasn’t alive in the 70’s or 80’s. Heck, I’m so young that my parents hadn’t even met until after homelands came out. But the 70’s and 80’s feels like modern day. Screaming nemesis and cursed recording have TVs in their art. The booster fun frame looks like it would be on a ghostbusters poster. I feel like I saw my baby cousin wearing the exact same outfit as Toby just the other day. The term “fear of missing out” is just such a modern day thing, even if that concept isn’t new. I’m withholding my judgement until I see the whole set, but based on what we’ve seen so far, I (somewhat) agree with the sentiment a lot of Duskmourne feels too “real”.
I’m sure more detail will be given closer to release, but I would be really interested in learning the whole process of how y’all built this world, even more interested than I would be with any other plane.
We're trying something new. Some people seem to like it, some don't. Time will show whether it was overall a good idea. I will say we need time to better gauge it. There are a lot of very popular Magic things that had an initial negative opinion.

Yandere Rise Donatello Designer "Catch Stitch" AU
okay, hear me out.
let me give context for this concept idea first (you could skip the next paragraph if you don't care, i'm just weird, i promise i start discussing the concept right after this next paragraph trust me)
i am a huge fan of this one designer in new york, bella pietro, her work is amazing. i was able to attend her bridal line debut fashion show in person this past sunday and got to speak with her very briefly. she's very lovely, relatable, super down to earth, and humble. she is also one of the influences for my own jewellery line, but this isn't the point i'm making, i'm going insanely off topic. i thought about what it would be like being a clothes designer in nyc.
donatello is the founder and ceo (at least, that's canonically what i'm led to believe) of Genius Built Technologies. it's also canon he designs Genius Built Apparel. i initially had this idea and shared it on discord a while back based around donnie being a member of a discord server with other designers. these designers usually joined said server for creativity, support, sharing each others' work, and giving critiques when wanted.
imagine you, an up-and-coming designer, join this server to gain more reach. while donnie was bored looking at others' designs and critiquing them harshly when asked to, he admired your work and advocated for you so that you could gain more popularity. the two of you accepted each other's friend requests and started talking in dms. he admired your work and thought it was cute how you were slowly rising in the industry, but you needed the right connections to actually get things going. you started getting seamstresses and a manager, but that took your time away from donnie.
donnie might have found out you lived in new york, that was when he suggested a meet-up for a collaboration. he was excited when you said yes, and a GB Apparel x For You line was in the works for when the two of you started discussing potential pieces. your crew got a little upset when you put all your attention on the collaborative project, especially your manager, and they thought it was a bad idea. you thought about listening to them and backing away to work on the collab line in the future. donnie... didn't really like that.
he loved spending time with you, as hard as it was for him to admit it. he adored the way you drew your designs, the face you made when you focused and shrimped over your tablet to get the details just right. he told you to adjust your posture, and you did it with a stretch, you ran your fingers through your hair he so badly wanted to run his fingers through instead. donnie hated the thought of having that taken away from him. once you told him you wanted to file away the collaborative project for another time, he managed to manipulate and gaslight convince you into believing your manager has the wrong idea, because his own brand was well known and high quality.
you hesitantly agreed with him and your crew began getting a distaste for you when you arrived late to meetings, made decisions with poor judgement, and delayed your own projects in favour of working with donatello instead. what you didn't know is that donnie anonymously emailed them all to quit their jobs with you because you were practically not working with them anymore. your crew moved on to work with other local designers. you didn't think much of it, you were aware people in this business would come and go, they would find other people to work for and it's no big deal, because you could sew your designs yourself.
besides, donatello had been a big help, he lent you his sewing machines that literally sewed by themselves. your own fall line had been presented on a runway at a moderately sized venue, a team curated by donatello organised it as if he were your manager. everyone on the server the two of you met on barely showed their support at first, until you got incoming praises and compliments from everyone after donatello's worship of you was sent in the runway channel. you were unaware to the fact that donatello threatened everyone with their careers if they didn't support you.
everyone seemed beginning to dislike you, your fans acknowledged that it didn't seem to be you at fault because your head was still held up high, staying positive and thanking anyone who bothered to take a look at your collection. donatello was working behind the scenes to isolate you as much as possible. he didn't want anyone taking you away from him because you were his precious fashion genius, your ideas complement his. that's why GB Apparel x For You is going to rock the fashion world, he had thought, deep in his delusions of spending more time with you. one look at you and it had his heart beating out of his chest.
your workspace in his apartment was a mess, fabrics everywhere, sketchbooks and a couple tablets (courtesy of Genius Built Technologies) with plenty of space for designs and you sat on the floor with your hair a mess and new glasses (those were courtesy from donatello himself) on your face after staring at the screens for so long. the softshell simply watched you work, enamoured and savouring the way you find his apartment more comfortable to work in because yours is already so cluttered.
donatello was so proud to see the results of your collaboration, he kissed the top of your head and held you close. you've had affectionate friends before, but you had only intimately known donnie for a few months. sure, he was one of the turtles that saved new york years ago, not to mention his brand even climbed up the ranks for a place in paris fashion week alongside balenciaga and valentino... so you knew him... but you didn't ask for this. you used to have more friends, lovely colleagues. whatever happened to that ?
of course, once the collab line debuted in the spring you went back to work, you designed a men's fall line you thought would grab people's attention. it certainly snatched donatello's, when he called you frequently and realised you were parting from him to work on your own, it pissed him off. he wanted to know what you were hiding. you hesitantly let him in on a day when you were being interviewed by april for press, dressed up for photography and not for him. you're only for him, no one should see you except when you're beside him. he lashed out at you in front of april, upset that you weren't telling him your plans since the GB Apparel x For You collaboration, and april took notes of the drama. not for press purposes at all, but to tell his brothers.
you didn't see donatello for a while after that, to which you were glad. you felt a weight finally slipped off your shoulders as you rebuilt your community. people didn't know that donatello was the one at fault for your darkest moments. you rebuilt your community over the course of a year, making new connections and finally making it into new york fashion week all by your own efforts, not by donatello's.
it was when he showed up at your door everything went downhill again. he pushed his way back into your life, asking for a spring GB Apparel x For You line even though he already started on his own designs, incorporating style that you would add due to how well he already knew you. over the year he had been gone, he watched how you grew and connected with other people in the soho fashion scene. the thought made his skin crawl. it irked him to know you were out and about, perhaps having dinner with your new manager, or spending hours at a time with your new seamstresses after you threw out the sewing machines he so lovingly gifted to you.
all he wanted was to share his world with you, have you live in lavish luxury like you deserve. you said no. you already had ideas for your spring line which would be presented in london along with new york, you didn't have time to collaborate with him. donnie threw another tantrum in your apartment, this time feeling a lot more destructive. he threw your decorations everywhere, then held up some of your supplies to set them on fire. it scared you into submission, telling him yes, putting off your own projects to move into his apartment and get to working with him on the next collab line.
things were different this time. donatello was a lot more clingy, literally working alongside you as the two of you designed the thirty-piece collection, he made gentle suggestions and leaned in close, added and subtracted things on what you already drew. the two of you had ordered takeout sometimes and he would be the only one allowed to receive the food. you felt trapped. there was nothing you could do about it, just accept your fate.
you disappeared off the tabloids, no one knew where you went, not even april. donnie kept you away for his eyes only, wrapping his arms around you at every chance he got, nuzzling into your neck from behind as you tried to break through the parental locks donatello placed on your tablets. that won't work, darling, he said, a smirk on his face you could feel against your skin. it made you sick, your stomach churning at the thought that you might stay in your captor's arms forever.

howdy there and welcome to a Cutie Pox Chronicles behind the scenes post!!!!! its gonna be long so im keeping it below the cut, this is skippable but if you want to read it you can!!
SO welcome to the depths... so heres what were going to talk about today - the yukki ponna, some cut content, fine line and some character details, and then some personal stuff! lets get into it
so, as was predicted a couple times, the weather change and disharmony is real important to the story - its been foreshadowed sense chapter one! but theres one clear problem with it and its the shows original frost horse. as i think everyone is aware for decades indigenous people have asked to not take their mythos out of their context (( read more on that here , and here!)). so for CPC i have rewritten them to be based off the Yuki onna, a Japanese yokai! although they work fundamentally the same - they feed off of disharmony and infighting, not only now do they freeze whoever they are around they also kidnap ponies once they are fully frozen! Theyre brought up into the clouds and used to make them more powerful - however they can be stopped in the same way as in the show. here is one of the initial pieces of concept art i did for them - making their bodies look more like a kimono, and i played with giving them black hair too but i didnt like it.
Tumblr media
speaking of concept art... there are a LOT of pannels that get cut while im working, this past comic had about 18 pages that i cut down for time and for my sanity, but i share a lot of WIP panels on jayrrators server so i still have some and thought i would share them here, in the read more will be the context and why they were cut!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
NOW THIS i am glad i have. when i draw an infected i do make them a ref sheet but i DO NOT share or save these because i dont wanna spoil what they look like buuuut this one i did. i actually had one for minty that i was gonna add here, but deleted it accidentally, shown here is orange swirl and globe trotter
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but on the topic of showing off some ponies i have one i wanna talk about and its the fine line problem
Tumblr media
the question ive gotten the most is who the hell is this and i think its time to talk about who she is. Fine line first shows up in the season one finale, the grand galloping gala, and she then shows up as a canterlot incidental form then on out primarily when theyre at the castle. shes shows up at cadences wedding and gets killed by the smooze (( not really )).
okay we get who she is but WHY. well part of the point of the comic was to give some love to the background ponies like the early fandom i was engrossed with growing up. and to me, she is one of the most background ponies. she has no dialogue, no special moments, but yet she has a very enchanting design! when i first saw her i really became obsessed with her. but she almost wasnt a part of the comic.
when i was choosing ponies it was a throw up between her - orange swirl (( as seen above )), strawberry sunrise, and dan tee dove! i needed a pegasus pony, and someone who wasnt WHITE or eggshell because theres too many of them. but... she fit none of them. she in cannon is a unicorn and white, but after talking it over with some friends and almost choosing orange swirl i just had to go with her.
so i updated her design to what i needed, shes no longer a unicorn or eggshell which makes her look more like an OC but most of the background ponies get a small upgrade to their designs so it just makes sense to me. for personality we only know shes a nanny and was born in manehattan, so i made her have a personality that would work well with kids, and made her older to fit her general vibe. and then i paired her with the only OC in the whole comic who is yougurt! why didnt i use a different calf? well get this, there are NO names i could find!!!! so screw it!!!! baby baby boy!!!!!!!!
but yeah thats the history for finest lineist!
and as requested here is the pronouns for ever character that has plot significance: from now on ill be including it with the characters introduction. although outside of the story i do get more headcannony for them but to keep things simple in the story they generally stick to what they are in cannon! i know i probably forgot some but -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and here we are at the end! this story will be a year old in 2 months, and so as you may guess with a long story like this i am getting very, very burnt out. from here on out im going to be slowing down some. were offically half way there and i have something big planned for 2/20/2025 if i make it there! thanks for reading and sticking around! i also wanted to remind everyone that THIS STORY IS INTERACTIVE!!!!!! you can send asks to some of the characters basically any that are on screen up there. you can also ask to see some things, although it might take me a while to get to it because there is a timeline im working from but you can tell them things!!! please do!
ill see ya around later!

yandere selection poll
―for your most favorite yandere concepts to come.
Tumblr media
notes: as a little thank-you for bringing the yandere twins intro to 200 notes and getting me to 30 followers, you get to vote on which yandere concept i should work on next from a list of ideas i've got brewing! the winner of this poll will guarantee an early release, but please do note that just because other concepts didn't win does not mean that they're no longer going to be published! some of these concepts aren't fully fleshed out either, and are subject to change whenever i find it necessary.
Tumblr media
A Yandere Princess, whose every action and word is judged by all. She then meets you, darling reader, who looks past her status as a princess and doesn't bat an eye for any mistake she commits. She, who holds the weight of her people on her shoulders, is willing to drop and set aside everything for you.
A Yandere Milf who moves in next door with her children as a recently-widowed, single mother. To cope with her loss, she runs a small garden out front, causing her to frequently have brief interactions with you whenever you leave your home. Over time she takes a liking to you, finding little similarities that connect you to her husband, and she invites you for family dinners. And after numerous times spent with you, she concludes in her mind that you are not her husband, but definitely should be her lover.
A Yandere Nurse who feels a little perverted for the feelings he's beginning to harbor towards the hospital's most recent patient ― you. He constantly can't quite look you in the eye out of guilt for his unprofessional attitude and treatment. You notice that he's especially skittish whenever he tends to you, but you quickly come to realize that he's the only nurse who consistently comes when you call for someone. He hopes that by intentionally causing your sickness to worsen, you'd come to rely on him for a long time.
A Yandere Tattoo Artist who is quite promiscuous with everyone, showing off much of his skin until you decide to come to his shop. He can't trust himself to hold back from hitting on you, especially when you go under the pain of his needle. He keeps his excitement down whenever he sees your first session, and makes sure you somehow always bump into him when you go out. After all, he's wondering if you'll drop by his shop anytime soon.
Yandere Zombie Boyfriend whose dying wish was to spend forever with you and it became true, coming back from the dead to unintentionally scare you out of your wits when you mistake him for a burglar. While it was quite nice that he loves you beyond death, his inability to talk and his mobility need to be worked on again...
Yandere Trickster God who enjoys playing what he thinks are silly pranks on you, pranks that effectively destroy your day and perhaps ruin your life. You've always thought that you've had an unlucky streak, even if initially you didn't believe in superstitions. But really, every day seems to be going wrong in some capacity ― thunderstorms pour when you leave without an umbrella, your house keys mysteriously go missing when you arrive at your front door in the dead of night, your online deliveries never seem to arrive, etc. ― little inconveniences pile up to prevent you from enjoying something nice, essentially. It wasn't until you came across an abandoned shrine and prayed to whatever god is out there to give you a breather did the happenings stop, and an oddly charming, ethereal asshole comes into your life to physically cause your frustrations.

Updates to Concept
// My writing process for Gallagher has been something of an experiment, so I've been making changes and trying new things continuously over the past 6 months. I haven't really made any official notes about it, but at this point, he's far enough away from my initial concept that I thought I should bring up the changes for those who might still think I'm writing him that way. Especially with the lore event and the potential to interact with new and old faces on the horizon.
This all, of course, is subject to change over the next several months now that Mr. Reca has been officially introduced and I wait for hoyo to prove or disprove a connection between them.
(Some mild 2.2 and 2.6 spoilers below)
First off, now that we know that Mr. Reca was likely the director for the Penacony main story, this opens up the possibility for Gallagher, as a virtual character, to have been created by Mr. Reca specifically for the story with the Trailblazer, and that Gallagher doesn't have any real connection to Mikhail or Penacony's history. This would mean that everything about him, not just parts, is completely fabricated and that he's basically Mr. Reca's OC for his Penacony fanfic. Cool concept, however, this possibility has me screaming into a cup (/neg) when it comes to RP.
None of my current HCs involve this theory. I'm simply putting it here as a disclaimer in case you see me completely rebuilding my concept for Gallagher in 3 or 4 months.
Changes in bullet format:
To avoid complicating things, I'm no longer writing Gallagher as an avatar for an off-screen History Fictionologist. From now on in my writing, italics won't denote this faceless History Fictionologist's thoughts or make any sort of separation between character and creator. Gallagher is simply Gallagher. This is a persona, but it's one that has its own life. The creator admits that the line between them and "Gallagher" have blurred so much that they can't separate themselves from him anymore, so the memories of the creator are Gallagher's, and vice versa.
My current concept is that Gallagher is at least the second persona that this unknown individual has taken on, and that the one that came before participated in the War of Independence. He built his persona from observing people all over Penacony, his history is half fabricated, his appearance is entirely fabricated, and he's the figure responsible for creating the story about the Watchmaker and his legacy. A new NPC (Ligeia) in Paperfold Academy talks about "a group of History Fictionologists" kidnapping Sunday, and while this rumor is about Sunday disappearing from the Grand Theater and not from Dewlight Pavilion, the fact that the Death of the Crow readable that she references is found in Dreamflux Reef in 2.2 instead of the Grand Theater gives me reason enough to believe that the "group of History Fictionologists" is indeed Gallagher. Likewise, this now gives a steadier foundation for connecting him to other instances when a "group of History Fictionologists" is mentioned, such as the attack on the amusement park. For the record, I don't necessarily think that the "Gallagher" is an individual or a collective. I believe that these rumors are just imperfect reflections of "his" influence.
Related to the above, I write Gallagher akin to a spirit of Penacony. The person we see in the story is 1) Trailblazer privilege and 2) a mode of communication. How he appears changes per person, and I've already begun to reference in threads this idea that he may look like Gallagher the Bloodhound or Gallagher the Drinksmith to one person, while at the same time appearing like a statue of a Hound to a passerby. His appearance is nebulous. This also explains why Siobhan doesn't seem to realize that he's a Bloodhound.
Gallagher, like the Origami Birds and other memetic entities, only shows himself to others when he wants. He doesn't "live" like an ordinary person and is more like an on-off switch, appearing when he's needed and disappearing when he has nothing to do. Like a Memokeeper, he can exist like this outside of Penacony, and I've completely gotten rid of the idea that he'll change his identity and name if he goes elsewhere. Felt weird for me to write. Gallagher is Gallagher.
Realistically, Gallagher would change his name and appearance by now, and if he travels to other worlds, but that gets complicated and weird fast. So to keep things easy on everyone, he'll be who we know as Gallagher in most cases. He'll be more likely to fake his name and identity for NPCs though.
Post-2.2, Gallagher the character is "dead" in Penacony, but in GH he's still kicking around. I'm updating what I wrote back in July about how he exists and doesn't know why to say that he hasn't changed, but everyone else's memories of him have. For the sake of writing him in GH, I'm treating him a bit like Santa Claus, conceptually. For those who still believe that he exists, then he does, but for those who believe that he's gone, then all they'll see is some ordinary man. Everyone who had contact with him should believe that he's dead or gone, but he can still be found in Penacony if one looks hard enough. For those who never met him in canon, it doesn't really matter. To them, Gallagher's story never happened, so meeting a drinksmith named Gallagher would just be like meeting any other random person. For those who did know him, however, I'll leave it up to the mun to recognize him post 2.2 or not. Enigmata obscures memory and perception, so in most cases he will be merely "the bartender" or "the Bloodhound" until the other character sees through the fog and calls him by the name they know him by. After which, he'll appear to them as Gallagher.
To simulate the idea of fictionalized history, I'll be writing Gallagher's posts exclusively in past tense starting with the next thread I start. Usually I match my partner's tense, but in this case, I want to capture the concept of something that has already happened and been recorded, but has been edited in some way afterwards.

So heard of the Teraleaks for Pokemon? NGL Feel really bad about that employee that got phished to have this released. The leak itself was whatever but the hacker outright doxxing them was shitty.
On another note, highlights include Cyrus of Team Galactic being confirmed autistic in his character bio (IIRC they flat out use that exact word too), Beta Lickylicky's full design finally being uncovered, a TON of unreleased Pokemon lore and background being unearthed especially around Arceus, scrapped GameFreak games, and possibly leaks for Pokemon Legends ZA
Also, apparently there's some Pokemon Concept art that's drawn in a very different style than what we know, a lot darker and realistic looking imo. It looks like Gen 3 or 4 was gonna have a different vibe than what we got initially it looks like.
I saw this in passing, let's actually delve into this.-
-Hulk Hogan is partially the inspiration for Drayden
... Not since James being a partial reference point for Homer Simpson have I ever taken such psychic damage in this manner.
-Huh, so Cyrus just might be autistic. Maybe. There seems to have been a community note but it got removed. I dunno. Assuming he is-
I'll take it. He's not a fucking moron like Archie/Maxie, he's not contradictory and boring like Lysandre and he's got some level of depth unlike Giovanni. And yeah, I get it. The conflict of thinking in an excessively logical way but feeling such intense emotions. This is a win.
-I guess those Fakemon designs aren't that bad, considering so many just look like Beta Pokemon.
-That uh...that creation myth was something. Someone in Game Freak is a HUGE mythology nerd cuz that whole thing had the same feeling as learning about the creation myth of Chaos. ALso somewhat implies the pseudo-Legendaries ARE in fact 'pseudo-Legendaries'
Though note- No Giritina mentioned. So this likely isn't canon.
-Yeah, those are some realistic looking concepts. Especially that beta Cacturne. Kinda glad they didn't go this route because A. looks good but doesn't fit Pokemon's style. B. The style we did get was far more cohesive with older Pokemon. And C. Would work better as an independent monster collector built around this concept. As in- Pokemon did NOT need to dominant ANOTHER aspect of monster collecting.
Also not surprising- Gen 4 had a lot of sharper, more adult-like designs like Gallade or Electrivire.
-'A game about raising and fighting bugs. You can also fuse them' Cool concept, Game Freak. If you do this, please do it without using Pokemon. Again, we don't need Pokemon consuming MORE of it's genre. ... Look, I value the distinction between Pokemon and SMT VERY heavily.
-So looks like Pokemon has been eyeing cutting the Pokedex since Gen 3. Reminds me of the Foxacade video where he said something similar (that their best bet to do this was back in Gen 3). Also shows ideas for what would become Mega Evolution, Dynamax and Gholdengo back in 2000.
P.S. 'They tried to make a game simple but included the REGIS?!' Dude, we went from themes of letting go of past glory and moving on to two dunderheads who failed fourth grade biology.
-So they knew people were gonna go crazy for Skyla. Always thought she was...specially made. Also explains why I keep seeing Shadow in my research.
-... And yet these stories are still better implementation of adult themes than Palworld.
On a serious note- What is up with that fucking Slaking story?
-I don't see any ZA info other than some passing info on Gen 10. Which really sucks for the developers- they're likely getting crunched still and now their hard work that they could deliver with maximum impact using good marketing is now just laid bare for everyone to mock them over.
-Lastly: It's not bad enough some poor grunt accidentally leaked a massive amount of info, likely getting him blacklisted from Japan's video gaming industry but they also had to get their info released so they can get blacklisted everywhere else AND mocked for it?
I don't care much for or against leaks but come on, have some decorum.

23rd Feb '24 - [arch] OH RISO my beloved!!!!!! ft. cyberpunk hermitcraft soup group
A cliffhanger!!!! And now I have to wait a month for you to upload the second half?? How will I cope :’’0
For real, it’s so awesome to see your process and the sheer amount of inspiration you take! In particular, I thought ‘Sit on Two Chairs’ and ‘This Was Our Pact’ were particularly yummy.
I think book covers are really hard. You have to sum up a book’s energy in one image, make it stand out and show just enough so people want more. Exploring the narrative through those full pages is really interesting - though this is something you did for fun, it could be a really useful technique for getting to know a narrative. When I’m designing my comic covers, I always do it last - that way I’ve had practice with the visual style and I’m thoroughly familiar with the themes, so I guess spending a bit of time with the characters and narrative in this way helps for standalone book covers too. Of course, it helps if you have the time for that XD
Okay!! Onto what I've been up to!!! [warning this is a beefy post I'm sorry for your poor reading brain]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The past two weeks have been really enjoyable! I’ve been playing a lot with slow world-building, in sketchbooks, google documents, and voice notes to friends. Letting myself really sit with concepts, think about the characters, let them play in my head with no expectations. With this relaxation and lack of pressure, some beautiful narratives and interactions have been developing. I’m starting to need a name for a world/ the story. I’m not quite ready to give them a full introduction to the internet - I know it doesn’t but it feels like there’s some accountability to *produce something* and this slow development is really important for the quality and my skill building. It’s really hard to take on, but we actually don’t have to make the perfect thing now! In fact, it’s impossible. Pressure on ourselves makes it so hard to make something good if we’re always grasping at the final result.  In the meantime, while those characters develop, I have been working hard on my basic skills. I wrote about characterization last post, but this week I focused on setting and colour. I was inspired (once again) by Hermitcraft. I’ve seen some really incredible illustrations of Minecraft builds in the fandom, and it seems like a great exercise.

One of the creators on Hermitcraft, ImpulseSV, created this build in a recent episode. It takes inspiration from the last season of Hermitcraft, where he was part of the ‘soup group’ with two other players, and his current base concept - a cyberpunk city.  I also LOVE his new character design, so I wanted to place him in the scene.

Here are some initial thumbnails I did, trying to figure out the composition. I wasn’t sure of the vibe yet, so I tried some rough thumbnailing, and drawing on an isometric grid and other perspective techniques. I’m going a bit mad for characters at the mo, so I wanted to place some in the scene. I found the angle of the isometric grid steep to place characters comfortably, so decided against that.

Looking back at it, I love the second! But I believe I was struggling with the perspective. I decided on the last one eventually.
Now, I absolutely adore all of the players in the Soup Group, and I am BIG fan of redesigning their notable characteristics to suit different settings. So yes, I decided to put all of the soup group in the image.

PearlescentMoon (left) from my comic and GeminiTay's Hermitcraft Season 10 design [from this thumbnail] (right)
Here's the sketch of the final image. I really enjoyed coming up with cyberpunk versions of them all. I used the impulse design almost exactly, with a few extra interesting details since he's mostly viewed from the back. For PearlescentMoon (middle) I kept her fringe, dark hair and gave her a glowing moon symbol on her top. For GeminiTay, I kept her long ginger hair, antlers (but glowing!) and took inspiration from her new season 10 design - a dark blue jumpsuit to match her dark blue clothes in her new design, and the braids she is often drawn with. I also gave them edgy new hairstyles. And a robot arm. I don't have lore for that.
As usual, I filled each flat colour-to-be with black and lowered the opacity to play with the values. Then I added colours one at a time, aware might be riso printing it. Originally I stuck to trying to make it printable (making the colours out of ones I could make my layering 2-3 colours at different opacities), but as I went on, I decided to drop that and focus on the quality of the image in a digital format alone. I did keep the grayscale version above with all the separate layers in case I needed that if/when I came to riso printing it. Below are the main two digital colour schemes I tried out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I settled on the one on the left, with the blue tones - the foreground characters really pop. I put a few details in Gem's hair, colour variations etc, and cropped it for Instagram. I actually much prefer the cropped version - it sits better in a rule of thirds.

Now the moment we've all been waiting for :'')
RISO!!!!!!!!!!!
I returned to Cardiff after a couple of months away and was delighted to spend my first day back at The Printhaus, an awesome shared print studio where I have basically made my home. A few of my awesome friends happened to be there, so I spent the day playing around with this image with their help! (please check them out they're very cool - Gavin helped me a lot (we hung out at Thought Bubble, remember? and Rhi gave good crits too!!)
For those who don't know, risograph is basically a shitty photocopier that can only print one colour at a time. However, you can play with gradients and opacities, and layer colours really nicely to combine. I've done a lot of single-colour tonal work with riso but this is my first go really layering.
First, Gavin showed me how to separate the channels in Photoshop, using the flat image uploaded to the 'gram. We copied and pasted these layers in grayscale and added blending modes to each layer to replicate what they might look like when printed.
Tumblr media
With blending modes, the digital mockup looked like this!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This bit goes into technical details for replicating what the print might look like for those who might want it - feel free to skip :)))
I copied and pasted the Cyan, Black and Magenta layers as greyscale (as you can see above)
I made all of the greyscale layers multiply layers since risograph ink is transparent and we wanted to see how it layers. The ink usually comes out a bit lighter than you think, so it's good to bear that in mind. I used a clipping mask over each greyscale layer and a blending mode. WHEN YOU PRINT, PRINT IN GREYSCALE, NOT COLOUR.
Here's how I split the colours from CMYK to the riso colours, their hex codes and the blending mode I used to replicate the colours:
Cyan - Mint [HEX#82D8D5] Screen Magenta - Fluorescent Pink [HEX#FF48B0] Screen Black - Blue [HEX#0078BF] Overlay Yellow - scrapped for colour scheme purposes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blue, Mint and Florencent Pink layers in greyscale in Procreate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Riso printed Mint and Florescent Pink layers on separate paper, followed by the two layered together.
We always start with the lighter colour inks first, because sometimes the rollers can pick up the ink and cause extra marks where you don't want them. The first two colours came out great!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first time we printed the blue, it came out very dark (left, first image). I have had this issue before - my last book, Winter Wellbeing, came out much darker than I wanted. Now I realise that the blue ink is super sensitive. All the 'white space' that is covered by a low-opacity blue on the left is only 2%, and yet it has come out pretty strong. We tried printing it on one of the misaligned images just to see, but it took all of the brightness out of the neon soup sign at the top of the image (second image). So I changed the values and pushed them way lighter, so it just pushed the values of the darker bits slightly, and brightened some of the lineart (right, first image)
Tumblr media
And this is the final riso printed version!! I'm so so happy with how this came out. It's so different from the original digital version, and I actually love that.
I didn't create new colours in the way that I intended to - I wanted to play with overlaying purposefully to create specific colours eg. orange for the hair etc. But!!! I'm really happy with how it came out. That will have to be a project for next time.
Also, many copies are slightly misaligned, so in future I think I'd do flat layers for the colours a more blobby style with the linework on one layer only so there's less of a chance for obvious misalignment. design for the riso, rather than riso the design.
Overall though, this feels like a super cool step up and a milestone for me. Super happy with how it came out!! And I'm excited to play with colour some more. Can't wait to see the rest of the Lionheart brothers! Enjoy your weekend :)))

Dear Watcher....
This is going to be about the youtube channel Watcher and a recent video that they released earlier today, so if you dont watch the channel, or older content produced by Ryan, Shane and Steven at Buzzfeed, this is not going to make sense to you. This only going to be for those who are a fan of Watcher, or are fans of Buzzfeed Unsolved so if you are, that's great!
Earlier today, I got a video notifcation from the channel titled, "goodbye youtube", and it was definitely not something I wanted to see. There is a recent trend this year of youtubers retiring or taking a break this year and I was scared this was that scenario. And it kind of was but way worse. Basically, the guys over at Watcher are going to be posting on their new streaming service called....Watcher. And, no, it is not a late April Fools joke, that's actually what their doing. Initially, I was in a state of shock after I watched through the entire video. I, no joke, went through the 5 stages of grief upon viewing this announcement and was thrown through a loop to where I struggled to focus on sketching one of my comic pages. So much so that I actually made a deviant blog post about it the moment I finished watching the video (most of the content from this post will be copied and pasted from that blog so declaimer I guess). After having some time to absorb this information, I have to say that Im really disappointed with the guys over at Watcher. Like Im not mad to where Im completely done with their content but.......WHY!?
I think at this point in time that a lot of people, myself included, are burnout with the whole streaming boom we've had for the past 5 years in no part thanks to those greedy bastards at Disney....but thats another story. I miss the days when there were only 2 to 3 main streaming services and not 5 billion other services that you need to buy in order to watch a show you like that was on Netflix but it now locked behind a pay wall. Streaming services used by a novelty concept but are now not looked upon in the best light. So for the them to announce a streaming service now is definitely a bad look, especially because the content before was free to access. I feel like creators will always have an uphill battle when it comes to content that was initially free being locked behind a paywall, because you're potentially isolating your audience and bringing up the question of weather your audience if loyal enough to give you money to enjoy your content. Now, like I said, I love and respect the people at Watcher, but I dont know if I'm willing to take money out of my wallet to watch the next season of Ghost Files. Especially in this economy, where in some parts of the country a big mac now costs 20 fucking dollars, and with inflation going out of control.
Now its not like I don't understand why they're doing this. Ever since its founding in 2019, Watcher has always had troubles with money, with most of their shows not being profitable enough to make ends meet (I know that sounds bs because most of their vidoes get millions of views but this is coming from one of the founders Steven, in an update video from a while ago so idk, views probably mean jack shit in the grand scheme of things). And the fact that they started around the pandemic didn't help things either. Unlike Buzzfeed, Watcher is a much smaller company so any loss that happens is felt much more than if it was a larger one. In the video itself, they mentioned that most of their money came through youtube ads and sponsorships, which, while alright if you're an independent creator, may not be enough for a company. And then there's the fact that YouTube can remove or demonetize videos out of nowhere and for the dumbest reasons so its not a very stable sight to base your income off of. So I can understand why they felt moving on from YouTube was a good idea. But..........I think there were better ways of going about it than creating their own fucking streaming service. Like, in one of their update vidoes, they said most of their shows werent making ends meet so maybe cutting back on the production of said shows to make them not as expensive to produce would be a good solution. In their announcement vid, they talked about wanting to maintain their high production value for their shows without going under but (and I dont mean this to slight them) I dont think they understand why they popped off in the first place. For me, Im not watching Ghost Files or Mystery Files for high production value and fancy graphics, Im there for Ryan and Shane. Same reason I loved Buzzfeed Unsolved, which compared to those shows is much more bare bones. I get wanting to step up your production value from what you had at Buzzfeed but if you have budget out in certain places which would entail having a season that doesnt look as good as the previous season, that's completely fine. Im sure me and the rest of fans wouldn't have minded a downgrade because at the end of the day, the fancy sets and graphics are window dressing to why we're truly watching.
I also thinking letting us know ahead of time would've possibly softened the blow. Watcher is in a very interesting situation because there's a much closer relationship between them and their customer base as opposed to traditional companies. So they really could've been like "hey! We're thinking about having future content be on our own streaming service because doing business through YouTube is fucking us over. What do you guys think?". One explanation as to why they waited until now instead of a few months ago when this idea was sparked could've been because they knew they would get backlash and they were going ahead with the streaming service idea regardless of fan input, which might be the reason. But if that's the case, they probably would've had the comments and likes disabled from the start. Right before I started typing this, I checked the video to see if the comments were disabled and they are thankfully still there. Im someone who always wants to see the good in people (which is definitely a character flaw of mine and while defiently lead to me being at the end of an abusive relationship........another abusive relationship but lets not go there), so I think this might be the case of Ryan, Shane and Steven, thinking the streaming service was a good idea and not reading the room properly.
At this point, Im hoping that they dont do things that could make this situation 10 times worse: a) removing the existing content (Mystery Files, Puppet History, etc) off the youtube channel and having it on their streaming service. If you are going to have new seasons of those shows behind a paywall, at least have that content still up for those who want to support but cant purchase the service......b) respond to the critism in a negative way. I think things would be made worse if they lumped genuine fans who are concerned with the new direction with the trolls and haters, and double down on this new direction. Im hoping this situation ends up being a slip up that they can learn from and not being the beginning of the downfall of the Watcher gang. No joke, I think Ryan and Shane are the only youtubers who have avoided any sort of drama up to now. Youtubers I once respected over the years from Tobuscus to Leafyishere to H3H3 to Idubbz to even fucking Dream have all fell from grace in one way or another, and Im hoping the ghoul boys dont join that list....

🗺️You’re The Prettiest Ghost I Ever Did See
Pairing: Hanzo Hasashi/Kuai Liang Length: 1687 Words Rating: Mature Warnings: BBC Ghosts Fusion AU, Past Character Death, Ghosts, Past Murder, Death by Drowning, Mild Gore (It’s just very briefly described), Fluff, Feelings Realisation, Trauma, Ghost!Hanzo Hasashi, Ghost!Kuai Liang, Ghost!Mileena, Found Family, Sometimes a family is your husband and the group of ghosts haunting your house AU-Gust 2024 Day 20: Crossover/Fusion
AU-Gust 2024 Masterlist
Notes: I had various concepts for what I wanted to do for this prompt, but eventually I landed on Ghosts because I miss it ;_; For anyone unfamiliar with the show, you don’t really need to know too much to enjoy this, but the basic concept is young woman finds out she’s inherited a large house from a distant relative, and along with her husband moves into it. She suffers an “accident” that leaves her so close to death she’s able to see the ghosts that live there. Shenanigans and found family ensue. Title is from Paranormal Love by Ghost Town
Tumblr media
Death had not been what Hanzo expected it to be.
Well, actually, looking back he had no idea what exactly he expected. He knew what he was told death would look like, but thinking back he wasn’t sure if he’d actually believed that. All he knew was being stuck in this house, with the same bunch of idiots for eternity, was not what he would have wanted.
At least, not initially.
Sure, these other ghosts could be annoying and asinine. The presence of the two newest homeowners was also frustrating, especially since the wife had a close enough brush with death as to see them all. But maybe they weren’t all so bad.
There were worse people he could spend eternity with, he supposed.
He glanced out the window of the house, watching two of his fellow ghosts walking in the gardens. Mileena had been here for a very long time, having been one of the first to die. She was a little immature at times, but Hanzo supposed she couldn’t help it, she was only just 18 when she died. Kuai Liang on the other hand was one of the more recent deaths, but having died at a slightly older age of 29. He’d become somewhat of an older brother figure to Mileena. As they walked along, it was clear Kuai Liang was stopping to tell her about each of the flowers and plants.
It was sweet, in a way, that these two souls who would have otherwise never met, due to being born in vastly different times, got to bond over a shared interest.
“Oh. Sorry Hanzo,” a voice called behind him and he looked to see Sonya walk into the room. She had a pile of things in her arms. “I don’t mean to disturb you, I just need to dump some stuff and I’ll be out of your hair.”
“Would you like a hand?” Hanzo asked, realising immediately as it came out of his mouth why that wouldn’t work. As a ghost, he couldn’t touch anything anymore. He put a hand on his face and muttered “sorry.”
“Well, it was nice of you to offer,” Sonya chuckled, putting the objects down on a nearby table. It looked like general nicknacks, likely things to try and decorate the place, get it ready to be a hotel again. Hanzo wasn’t sure he liked the idea of the house being a hotel, the idea of a bunch of strangers being around day in and day out sounded awful.
Regardless he nodded, and turned to look out the window. Mileena seemingly had decided to start walking on one of the walls, Kuai Liang looking concerned like she was about to fall. Not that she’d have gotten hurt if she did.
“Everything okay?” Sonya asked, coming to stand by him and peer out the window. She smiled slightly, watching the two of them.
“Yes, just pondering how bittersweet certain things are,” Hanzo explained, sighing to himself. “In most circumstances, none of us would have met. Yet, here we are.”
He wasn’t entirely sure how Mileena had died, she always tried to avoid talking about it. The gaping wounds on her face, going from the corners of her mouth all along her cheeks, didn’t exactly paint a pretty picture.
Kuai Liang, on the other hand, Hanzo knew exactly how he died, because he had been there, silently observing. He had watched the man Kuai Liang was supposed to marry hold him down under the water. There was nothing he could do as Kuai trashed and the bubbles frothed from his mouth. Slowly, Kuai’s body had gone limp, and his supposed beloved finally drew back.
Hanzo was the first person to welcome Kuai Liang to the afterlife. The person to comfort him after he’d been so brutally murdered. His heart still broke for him.
“You know, you could tell him how you feel about him,” Sonya spoke, giving him a knowing look. He scoffed slightly, but her gaze didn’t let up.
“I don’t know what you mean,” Hanzo muttered, knowing how in denial he sounded. He’d always found he was attracted to both women and men, even before he married Harumi. So being attracted to Kuai Liang was not too unexpected. He didn’t think his feelings were particularly obvious however.
“Oh, don’t give me that crap,” She sighed, crossing her arms over her chest and leaning against the windows side. “You look at that man like he’s the most beautiful thing in the entire room.”
“I do?” Hanzo questioned, a little mortified that it was that visible. He eventually sighed however, there was no point denying his feelings anymore. He just had to try and explain why admitting the truth wasn’t so easy for him. “I had a wife back in Japan. I never got to go home to her. She’d be long gone by now. Moving on from her is not easy, it feels like I am betraying her even though I’m not.”
“I’m sorry.” Sonya lifted her hand as if she was going to place it on Hanzo’s shoulder, but quickly realised her mistake and balled it into a fist instead. “I think what you really need to ask yourself is, those years after your death… Would you have wanted her to move on? Find someone to make her happy when you were unable to?”
Hanzo had to think about that. He’d never really done so before. He often wondered what happened to her. The thought of her spending those years alone and miserable made him want to be sick. Sure, the idea that she could move on from him hurt a bit, but it was overwhelmed by the thought of her being happy, at least in some way.
It seemed he had his answer.
“I’d want her to be happy,” Hanzo answered, trying to contain his emotions. “And if she found that in someone who wasn’t me, then I am content to know at least she didn’t let grief consume her.”
“And, do you believe she wouldn’t want the same for you?” Sonya asked again, tilting her head ever so slightly.
“I think she would want the same for me.” He shook his head. That was all well and good, but the other part of it was how Kuai Liang himself would react. “Sonya, I-”
“Hey Babe, where do we keep-” Sonya’s husband Johnny walked into the room, pausing when he saw her standing at the window. Just her of course. He knew the ghosts were there, thanks to Sonya, but he could not see or talk to them. Hanzo was almost thankful for that, Johnny did seem a bit dimwitted and he wasn’t sure he’d be able to hold his tongue. “Sorry, are you doing… Ghost stuff?”
“It’s ghost stuff,” Sonya assured him, and watched as he nodded in understanding.
“Right, right. Uh, okay just a quickie then,” Johnny said while gesturing with his hand over his shoulder. “Where do we keep the DJ stuff again?”
“Why?” Sonya questioned in a suspicious manner, narrowing her eyes as she did.
“Just… wondering.” Johnny shrugged, but it was clear he was up to something.
“It’s in the closet downstairs,” Sonya replied, still sounding like she didn’t trust where Johnny was going with this.
“Cool, Cool. Thanks Babe, I’ll leave you to your… Uh…” He gestured towards the empty space beside her. “Ghost stuff.”
And with that he was gone again. All Hanzo could do was shake his head, but Sonya’s eyes never left the door.
“That moron is gonna start DJing again, I just know it,” Sonya hissed in a tone that indicated that whatever this DJing thing was, it wasn’t good.
“Anyway,” Hanzo interrupted with a bit of a cough. “Sonya, out of curiosity, are you aware of how Kuai Liang died?”
“No. I’m not.” She finally turned her attention back to Hanzo, her brow furrowing. “How-”
“That’s… not really my story to tell.” Sure, he had been there, but it was Kuai’s trauma, not his, and it was not his place to explain it. “What I will say is he was hurt by someone who should have loved him.” Hanzo could only hope that in the years since Kuai Liang’s death, his former partner only ever knew suffering for what he did. “And I am worried if I come on too strong, it might bring up past trauma for him.”
“I think…” Sonya bit her lips slightly, glancing out of the window again. “I think that is something you have to let him decide for himself.” Hanzo followed Sonya’s gaze outside, somewhat perplexed to find Kuai Liang doing a handstand while his legs were wide open. Mileena was clapping enthusiastically at the display. “Maybe just take it slow. Don’t do too much at once. I think he’ll be more open to it than you think.”
Hanzo silently considered that, before deciding she was right. He could take his time after all, it wasn’t like they didn’t have that in spades. He would wait aeons to just hold the other man's hand, if that was what it would take.
“You’re right. Thank you, Sonya.” He took a deep breath, bowing to her. Considering her youth, she was wise for her age. “I will take what you said into consideration.”
“Good.” Sonya pushed herself away from the window and started to walk towards the door. “I’m sorry I need to go and make sure Johnny isn’t about to start going through a quarter-life crisis and attempt to reignite another disastrous career as a DJ.”
“Fair enough.” Hanzo had no idea what to say to that, he just let her leave.
Alone once more, he turned to observe out of the window again. This time Mileena was doing a handstand, although her balance wasn’t anywhere near as good as Kuai Liang’s, as she wobbled all over the place. Kuai Liang stood, clearly encouraging her to keep going and keep trying. If his heart were still beating, he was certain it’d be fluttering.
No, eternity didn’t sound so bad, so long as he could share it by Kuai Liang’s side.

Izzy's Gravy Basket
While discussing Izzy's looming end of season extravaganza (apparently Con's acting is so good we're all gonna lose our minds) on this poll, and maybe in connection with my episode 8 speculations here, @nicelimegreen put the thought of Izzy's own personal gravy basket in my mind - and I love it so much I have to write about it.
While Ed and Stede already let us see into their minds (and it was fascinating!), we haven't had anything like that from Izzy. And true to my firm belief that OMFD is a story about three central fuckups, an Izzy dream scene/hallucination would be absolutely perfect for the season finale to bring everything together.
Also, the unhinged enthusiasm of people who have seen all the episodes, specifically relating to Con's performance in episode 8, leads me to believe that there's something dramatic coming.
And why not Izzy's own purgatory?
I know, this makes it 3 death scenes in one season (plus 2 toe snips, an amputation and possibly torture?) which I would find a bit much even in hurt/no comfort fanfic, but it kinda is that kind of show, isn't it? (and I love it)
The fascinating question is, of course, what would Izzy's purgatory look like? (Please reblog and discuss, I'm going crazy with anticipation in general and about Izzy's conclusion specifically)
Let's look at our blueprint: Ed's gravy basket
Central conflict: self-hatred, fear of being a bad person, lack of self control, unloveable, no one cares if you live or die Location: beach, hut, cliffs Representation of self: Captain Hornigold, retired Pulling him out of it: Mermaid Stede <3 (I messed all of this up. I'll never leave you. You're safe.)
For Izzy, in my opinion, the central conflict is "What am I?" (from initially, "What am I to you?"). His arc this season is becoming a well-rounded person who can stand alone (first step: get a unicorn leg) and isn't (co-)dependent on his captain.
But that might not be all there is. Ed's death was directly connected to his conflict. I can't see how Izzy's death is caused by him becoming a more realized person.
Except... maybe this is a conflict between self-actualization and self-sacrifice. I've said it before, I sense a lot of guilt about something in his (and Ed's) past. Something about others paying the price for your ambitions (Letting someone die or driving them to suicide? Killing someone you love?).
Izzy spent a lifetime in the shadow of another man, propping him up (as best he could). Maybe there's a reason for this level of self-abandonment?
The location could be many places really - we know nothing of Izzy's past. It has to be quiet and introspective though, so I suggest a lake in some lonely place (Edward Teach born on a beach, Israel Hands born in the Midlands). Or a ship - because, at his core, Izzy is first and foremost a sailor.
Much more interesting is the person who'll be there with him. Keeping in line with our blueprint, it could be someone from Izzy's past.
For Ed, it was his feared captain who traumatized him deeply but also influenced large parts of his outwards persona, his conception of piracy and appropriate pirate behaviour. These are parts Ed hates about himself and that make him unhappy, and it ties in with his central conflict of course.
But for Izzy it could be the exact opposite. If it truly is a person from Izzy's past, it's very difficult to speculate who (that's why we need a scene like this - we know nothing about the fucker!).
I all comes down to how Izzy sees himself. Contrary to Ed, I don't think Izzy's conflict is self-hatred, so the person representing his self won't be someone Izzy hates.
I also don't see someone threatening - it is more likely someone in need of guidance, someone vulnerable and "weak". Maybe someone who wasn't strong and able enough to do their fucking job (and Izzy should have done it for him, then).
So who could that person be? It could be someone who was dependent on Izzy a long time ago, maybe someone he let down because he didn't protect/guide them properly. The person could be connected to the spade (traitor's?) tattoo or the ring on his cravat. It could also be a young Ed, who Izzy tried to take under his wing (for the record, I do firmly believe that Izzy taught Ed quite a few things, maybe not all he knows though).
He could also be alone 😢
I don't think Izzy wants to die like Ed did (he's doing quite well right now), but we've got 3 episodes left - who knows what'll happen. The guilt could play into it, or a feeling of this is how it was supposed to happen, I've paid my debts.
In any case, right at the end, someone will come and pull him out.
In spite of the crew being Izzy's love now, they've already saved him in Ep4. I think this time it should be Ed who comes for Izzy. I can also see Ed and Stede both being explicitly needed (Izzy has two hands).
I think there's a possibility Izzy won't drown though - maybe he'll burn in a wood/house/ship fire. A self-imposed fiery death in hell seems fitting with the guilt-theme somehow. But that's just me probably. Water works perfectly well too.
For the rescue, I am struggling to come up with something even half as perfect as a mermaid, I mean Ed and Stede can always ride in on a unicorn (bit of a double meaning there, but whatever), but that doesn't feel quite right - maybe Ed with a shark's tail? Someone else will have a brilliant idea I hope!
Going with Izzy's assumed conflict of self-actualization vs. self-sacrifice (and protection of others), the thing he needs to hear to bring him back would be something like "it wasn't your fault", "be happy" and "I/we want you in our lives but be your own person" (just a little more poetic maybe).
Conclusion: Izzy's purgatory will tell us something (harrowing I'm sure) about his past. Con's acting will be off the charts. We will want to thank him face-to-face (I've wanted to do that from the start, so...)
But Ed or Ed and Stede both will bring Izzy back - he'll thank them in his usual charming way and they'll live happily ever after <3.
Hope this wasn't too scrambled! Thoughts?

So Sabine is training as a jedi. Lets just say I have mixed feelings.
On one hand, I actually love the idea of a jedi who is not very force sensitive. In contrast to characters like Anakin who were just naturally talented, a jedi character who has to train much harder has a lot of narrative potential. A jedi that is only a little force sensitive sounds really cool! (A little force sensitive, not not-force sensitive. Two different things, one is a cool idea, the other sucks.) This is a story I would absolutely be down for seeing and I think there is a lot of potential here.
I also think giving Ahsoka a student is a fantastic idea. Giving her a padawan would force her to face her past and make peace with the reality of what Anakin did and who he became. It could allow her to finally embrace her lost culture by following one of their most important customs: teaching. It would functionally let the audience know that even after tragedy their culture survived. This could be an amazing story.
So, in theory at least, I should love this idea, right? But I don't.
If this has been another character, I think a new one would work best, I would love this! But it just doesn't make sense for Sabine.
For one, it is a huge retcon and causes rebels to retroactively not make sense. There was no foreshadowing that I can recall about Sabine being force sensitive. This just comes out of no where. (Don't say using the darksaber is foreshadowing. Its not. Other, none force sensitive people have used a lightsaber before.)
I think the explanation they are going for is that Sabine has so little force sensitivity that no one ever noticed before, but that just doesn't make sense. If she had meet a jedi once or twice, sure maybe they didn't notice, but for how long she was with Kanan? This leaves three possibilities.
Kanan really never noticed, which retroactively kind of make him look bad? Like you were with her for how long?
Kanan noticed and didn't tell her, which makes him seem like a jerk tbh. You have no right to keep info like that from someone.
Kanan did notice, and he did tell her, but it was so unimportant that it happened off screen and was never shown to us. I don't think I need to explain why that one is bad writing.
The second reason it doesn't make sense for Sabine is that she already has an established backstory and culture. There is literally so much you can do with Sabine's character already! You don't need to add jedi stuff, or if you did, it could (and should) be showing what she learned from living with jedi. Things like handling your emotions, letting go and living to help others.
Frankly, a lot of people love the mandolarians. It seems odd to me that they wouldn't want to center the plot on that part of her heritage? She would be the perfect opportunity to show off non violent parts of their culture. (I think this is the consequence of forcing Ahsoka's show and the rebels sequel together.)
This writing decision creates plot holes were there were none, and for what? What was gained with this decision. The only thing I can think of is that they wanted two popular characters to interact and this was the best they could come up with?
When it comes down to it, I just really dislike that they keep wanting to retcon stuff. We liked rebels the way it was, please don't retroactively change it!
But, even taking my initial dislike of the concept into consideration, I am still hype for the show tbh! I don't want to be negative, I want to like the show so so bad. I truly like the idea of Ahsoka getting a padawan and barely force sensitive jedi. So, I'm staying hopeful.

I know it’s common for adult fans to bitch about things being made for kids, but it really stuck me just how “childish” this sequel seems. I might just be doing what those adult fans do, but I don’t know, it just seems kind of dumbed down over like the people working on it didn’t realize all the OG fans of the original are adults.
Nononononono I'm telling you right now to shove that shit where it came from or so help me
Megamind is like, the easiest kids movie. Your differences make you special and you can be a hero even if you're abnormal has been one of the easiest superhero themes for decades.
I think the show looks bad but it's because Megamind isn't a concept that can sustain itself past its initial movie because you already did the theme. Congrats, Megamind learned his lesson and is a good guy now go home. I don't need more of him he already did the thing.
If anything the show is only now being made to capitalize off of fans who think that "more=good" and animation brats who have made "Megamind is the best DreamWorks movie" one of their core traits.

As promised, here is my Ahsoka Tano x Nyx Okami child!
His name is Jesse Okami, named for the fallen clone brother who Ahsoka held as dear as she does Rex!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, regarding his hair, I always pictured an Ahsoka x Nyx child as having white and blue hair from Ahsoka's montrals. I love the concept of anime colored hair, and seeing as it makes sense to me, I wanted to do it. And if you look closely, I did the same for his eyebrows: the right one is blue, and the left one is white. I also gave Jesse slightly pointed ears, and sharp teeth to go with him being born of a carnivorous alien mother. Thinking about it now, he probably has enhanced hearing, and above average sight. I tried my best to have his skin match Nyx's tone, but looking at it now, Jesse's skintone looks like a perfect blend of his parents, for which I'm proud of myself!
About my only complaint are his eyes. I'd wanted to give him one brown eye and one blue eye, but Hero Forge is finicky, and I couldn't do it. In hindsight though, I'm really pleased that I gave him Nyx's brown eyes: it helps show the similarities between father and son, as well as breaks the trend of blue eyed Force-sensitives (even though I too am inclined to make Force-sensitives have blue eyes).
Now, here's the little backstory I've got for Jesse and, by extension, Nyx and Ahsoka.
Ahsoka and Nyx ended up forming a partnership after Order 66 happened. Ahsoka needed an ally who could keep pace with her, and Rex was initially too shaken by the events of the Clone Wars and the knowledge that he and his brothers were always made to be traitors to their Jedi in order to help her cause. Leaving him to recover in a safe location, Ahsoka went out to try and find purpose and survivors in order to cope with this blow. One thing led to another, and she reunited with Nyx from their time in the underbelly of Coruscant (the Martez sisters don't exist in my canon, if you couldn't tell already.) Wanting to help her, Nyx offered her his services as an independent smuggler/infiltrator/jack-of-all-trades - "Free of charge," he added with a playful, nostalgic twinkle in his eye.
Missing her old flame and wanting company in her mission, Ahsoka gladly accepted his offer. They spent the next two years searching for Jedi, leading to dead ends and close calls. During this time, the old spark of their romance reignited, and they soon found themselves truly falling in love. Even after gaining the aid of a freelance, wandering Gray Jedi who taught Ahsoka a few extra things, they found their bond only grew stronger. Before long, Ahsoka found herself with child, and Nyx finally asked her if she'd marry him. The ceremony was short but meaningful, and Jesse was born in 17 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin). Although the risks were greater now for their family, Ahsoka and Nyx regretted nothing, and even when each of them had to take on a long mission, they managed to find the time for each other and their son.
As Jesse grew, it became evident that he was Force-sensitive, just like his mother. With Nyx's help and encouragement, Ahsoka taught him the basics of the Force, as well as a few tricks that he could use if he were alone or in danger. By 10 BBY, they came into contact with Cal Kestis and Merrin, learning that there was a planet hidden in the Koboh Abyss that would be a safe place to rest as compared to their constant travel between worlds. Coming to Tanalorr, Ahsoka knew it was a place that would be good for her family, and that a planet so rich in the Force would do her son good.
But try as they had to let go of the past, the Empire's cruelty was too great of a threat to them and their son - and try as she might, Ahsoka still had a fight to finish. Together, she and Nyx found a means of bringing together people who had been hurt by the Empire and tired of its oppression. Forming the Phoenix Cell, Ahsoka directed their moves and searched for Imperial weaknesses the Phoenixes could exploit. Nyx aided by infiltrating various Imperial bases, sometimes working in synch with Ahsoka for their missions. Soon, Ahsoka felt the Force calling her to join the fight, leaving Nyx to hang back and raise their son while searching for other sources to aid his wife and the growing Rebellion.
Almost four years before Yavin, Ahsoka became aware of a young Mandalorian who was unique among her kind: she was Force-sensitive, for which she'd had to abandon her homeworld and her people to keep herself out of Imperial hands. Ahsoka took the young teenage girl under her wing, but struggled to find a means of teaching her without totally becoming her master. For this, she often confided in Nyx, though she had to use code in order to preserve the safety of all. Nyx gave her much needed advice and comfort, even though they were worlds apart; thankfully, the Mandalorian girl was already well versed in weapons' handling, and most of the teaching revolved around teaching her to open herself up to the Force. When the Mandalorian girl crafted her twin, yellow bladed lightsabers, her initiation was nearly complete.
However, the Force warned Ahsoka of a darkness on the old Sith world of Korriban - a darkness that her former master was seeking out. Knowing the urgency of this mission and aware that her student was in no shape to face a Sith Lord, Ahsoka instructed the Mandalorian to remain with the former commanders Wolffe and Gregor while she journeyed with the Jedi Kanan Jarrus and Ezra Bridger to the petrified world to locate the threat. Sharing some last transmissions with Nyx and Rex, Ahsoka departed.
Halfway across the galaxy, Nyx awoke in the middle of the night to a feeling he would never forget. When later asked by his wife's former pupil, he admits that it was like "a tear in reality. One minute she was there, then the next, Ahsoka...disappeared." He insists that it did not feel like a death, both because he would know on a primal level, and that Jesse would be far more heartbroken if Ahsoka had died. Instead, Jesse plays restlessly with the Tanalorrian coyotes, growing in power and asking more and more about his mother and what she is like. As for himself, Nyx has stepped further into the light of the Rebellion, close enough for his shadow to be seen but far enough away to remain safe with his son on Tanalorr.
For now, Nyx is biding his time, watching as his son grows and learns of the Force from Cal, though Jesse keeps his Jedi tutor emotionally at arm's length and spends much of his time with his father. When the Emperor is defeated, Nyx, after witnessing his son build a silver bladed lightsaber in a Force trance, decides it is time to find Ahsoka, and taking Jesse with him, the father and son begin to search the stars for Ahsoka.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And that's that! I hope you all enjoyed this, and that I piqued your interest! This is what I have so far for my personal Star Wars canon, though it may be subject to editing and little changes. Regarding that Mandalorian Jedi-in-training, I will elaborate on a few details:
She is not Sabine Wren, nor is she on the same political standing as Sabine. I am sorry that I did not name her, but this character has been in my head and heart for years. Frankly, she has been there since about seaon two of Star Wars Rebels, and even then, she had always been a Jedi-in-training - long before the Darksaber arc or even the Ahsoka series made Sabine Force-sensitive (which greatly annoys me, by the way - and she will not be Force-sensitive in my canon.) Since this Mandalorian Jedi OC is so close to my heart and has been protected from the fandom/internet for so long, I will, admittedly, find it difficult to disclose many details about her, though I am hoping to change that.
A last note: Kanan lives in my canon, and Ezra remains in the galaxy and has adventures with his "space family" on Yavin 4 and participates in Luke's rebuilding of the Jedi Order. If you have questions about my canon, my ask box is open, though I will only answer SFW questions, and any hate I receive will not be tolerated. If you don't like most of the answers I give, then please move on and don't let my takes upset you. I am doing this primarily for my own enjoyment, but if I make others happy, I will be glad to have done that.
Take care, and may the Force be with you!

Butler's Halloween / Chapter 13 - Party Day
Prev | All | Next
And then, on the day of the costume party...
Maybe thanks to Lamli and the others for advertising in the city over the past few days, a surprisingly large number of people showed up for the party at the mansion.
Visitors: (Chatter, chatter...)

Muu: "Wow~! Look at that, my lord! So many people here. The mansion's yard looks just like the city! I bet today's party will be a big success!"

Muu: "Eh? What's wrong?"
There were indeed a lot of people at the venue, but… I couldn't help but notice that all of their expressions still seem somewhat stiff.
> "They seem to be nervous"
Muu: "N-now that you mention it… I suppose that's true. Are they scared because they are at the devil butler's mansion? Oh but.... People who come here typically have little prejudice against devil butlers… So why would they…"
Berrien: "Fufu. Don't worry, Muu."
Muu: "Oh, Mr. Berrien…"
Berrien: "Please rest assured. The reason they are nervous is something else entirely."
> "What might that be?"
Berrien: "Yes, that is…"

Visitor: "I-I told you it's fine! The mansion folks advertised that 'everyone is welcome'. Plus, if we miss this chance... When will we commoners have such an opportunity again…"
Visitor: "Y-you're right… But still, what an impressive mansion…"
Muu: "I see… They are just not used to this kind of party, are they?"
Berrien: "Indeed, they are not. We live in a mansion, so we might overlook it, but… A mansion party is an unfamiliar concept for the residents of Espoir. So, their nervousness is understandable."
> "I understand why they might feel confused...."
Berrien: "Fufu. That's right.
Even my lord was perplexed when they first came to the mansion."

Bastien: "Welcome dear guest, to Devil's Palace Horror Night."
Visitor: "H-he-hello! I-I am sorry to bother you! Erm… I'm not used to this kind of party, so…"
Bastien: "Don't worry. There's no need to be so stiff. Today's party isn't that formal. There will be modest drinks and food… We've also prepared some entertainment. Please feel at ease and enjoy yourselves."
Visitor: "I-I see. I am so relieved to hear that…"

Children: "Yes~!"
Lono: "Hey guys! We have prepared a lot of delicious sweets for you. Pumpkin scones, Mont Blanc.... All free for the kids! Help yourselves!"
Children: "Yayyy! Thank you, big brother!"
Nac: "Fufufu.... If you enjoy them, please consider telling your parents. We make a lot of sweets. We would be very happy if they could buy some as souvenirs."
Children: "Yes! I will ask my father for some!"
Fennesz: "I-I see… I see what you mean. So, you're giving them away for free to children and asking their parents to buy them. Initially, I wondered why we were giving them away for free… now that I think about it…"
Nac: "Fufu. Exactly. It is like the saying, 'If you want to shoot the general, shoot the horse first.' According to my calculations, this method should also be profitable."
Miyaji: "Hmm… It's great that the kids are happy, but don't eat too many sweets, everyone. And don't go off on a spending spree."
Haures: "Please don't cry, dear guest... I understand. Witnessing your mom and dad argue in front of you is tough."
Little girl: "Sobs... Y-yes… I don't know what to do... What if my mom and dad separate…"
Haures: "Oh no… Don't dwell on negative thoughts. As long as there is a wonderful young lady like you, they won't split. Everything will be alright.  So, wipe your tears... Here, please use this handkerchief, dear guest."
Boschi: "Hey, Haures…"
Haures: "Oh, Boschi. Sorry…  We are a little short on attendants, but I just can't let go of this matter…"
Boschi: "I get it when I see it. Here, take this…"
Haures: "Huh? This is…"
Boschi: "Orange juice. Offer it to the girl. Don't worry about attending to guests, I'll take over."
Haures: "Okay… Thanks, Boschi."
Boschi: "Hm. You owe me one."
Berrien: "Ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much for joining us at Devil's Palace Horror Night. Now, our butlers will perform a dance on the special stage in the venue's center.
They've prepared a new choreography for tonight's show. Please give them a warm welcome.
Well then... Lato, Lamli, Ammon, and Flure, it's your turn."
Tap, tap, tap…
Lamli: "Yay! Good evening, everyone~ ♪"
Lato: "Oh, well...? I cannot hear your reply."
Ammon: "Get excited, everyone! Good evening~ ♪"
Flure: "W-wait! Such taunting wasn't in our plan, was it…!?"
Ammon: "Hehe. It's impossible to ask us not to improvise!"
Lamli: "Yes, yes ♪ We have to sync with the audience on stage ♪"
Lato: "Kufufu. We will follow the choreography, so please do not worry."
Flure: "Uuh… I-I'm worried…"
Muu: "Fufu. The whole venue is becoming more and more lively!"
> "Thanks to all the butlers, right?"
Muu: "Yes! Let's enjoy the party too!"
After that, the stage dance performance greatly heightened the excitement... And so, 'Devil's Palace Horror Night' came to a close as a great success.

The Human Heart, Divine Judgment, and Mechs
Spoilers for the OG series and End of Evangelion. I’d highly advise you watch those first so you can make your own opinion before looking at this.
I recently watched all of Eva for the first time recently since my friend invited me to watch End of Eva for its special theater viewing. To be honest, I didn’t know really what to expect when I went in, but I had heard a lot of things and had figured now would be a good time to finally bite the bullet and have one large, cathartic session of child soldier trauma. What I didn’t expect would be a 10 hour binge-fest of tears and a major reconsideration of myself in the process.
I knew that this show was heavy and wasn’t going to pull punches. It’s kinda why I opted to binged the initial 26 episodes by myself on one day. And while I wouldn’t recommend it for everyone because I felt absolutely horrendous from the messed up state of mind it left me in, it’s definitely something I’d suggest doing if you have the guts for it.
As for the show and movie itself, I’m glad that I watched them both sometime during my life. As I said earlier, this is not for everyone. It’s mature, unadulterated emotions splayed on the canvas for all to see. If you couldn’t stand something like Devilman Crybaby, then this is probably not for you. But by the same token, it’s a deep retrospection of yourself and (Japanese) society as a whole when you look at it from an analytical lens. The concept of merging every being into one, essentially eliminating the self is such an extreme that I’ve never even considered would be possible, and yet, they made it work. There’s numbers and logic and science, but by the same token, nothing explicitly explains why the Evas are capable of taking matters into their own hands through the inhibiting armor. But it doesn’t need to.
Are we worthy to continue existing? Are we worthy of our lives as a whole, or as an individual? These are the two questions that Eva proudly poses, with each group giving different answers. And it’s very obvious of the stances of each party: the pilots and those that stand with them, and the Seele. However, because the opinions of the children are cast aside, it very much reflects the mentality humanity has put into its youth: disregarded due to the lack of experience. But those that do acknowledge them understand that once, they too were in their shoes. It’s why those that sided with them had similar situations of absent or neglectful parents, those that barely had an appearance, and thusly, carved a determined individual out of spite rather than praise and attendance.
And while Shinji gets a lot of flak for being hesitant to his fate, I have to firmly disagree on the logic that those fans have for him. It’s obvious from the beginning that while he wishes to not cause harm, it’s the fate he’s drawn to and eventually a key part of his identity. If he wasn’t an Eva pilot, would anyone else ever hear his cello? Would anyone else bother looking at him? He’s an average guy with average grades on purpose, and yet one who must answer the call and push past his neglectful childhood in order to sprout the seed of humanity.
As for Rei and Asuka, this is the first series in a long time that made me ask myself: “why were you written in this story? For what purpose do you have to the message of the plot?” Rei was quite simple, but Asuka? Asuka drove me mad. I could not comprehend her reasoning for existing. Without Asuka, Shinji was on a steady platform for growth and acceptance, for understanding flaw and fault and yet being able to hold his head high and make positive relationships regardless of what others think. When she came in on the 7th episode, I was excited. I was curious as to why so many people were attracted to her character, but it fell incredibly flat. Her stubborn ego and standoffish attitude clashed with the sheer positivity I had seen from online. She was asinine and cruel to Shinji, who clearly had a lot of visible issues going on, even if he was silent about them. Even after the explanation of her mother going insane to eventually committing suicide, I felt nothing. I had figured that she had ongoing familial issues (as did the rest of the cast that directly interacted with the pilots), but at this point when everybody’s special, nobody is.
It wasn’t until I had watched the movie that it finally clicked for me. Asuka, standing proudly in the apartment, staring at Shinji, echoing what had already been stated throughout the show. The confidence that Shinji could never have stared back at him, the woman within his grasp undesirable. One who is lauded and praised endlessly for her accelerated education and incredible synchronization with the Eva, and yet… everything Shinji despises. She is the truth that he rejects. She is the foil to Shinji, one who accepts and runs toward the truth, and gets hurt because of it. After all, while they both watched their mothers’ lives end, Asuka is the only one who made it shape her thoughts. It festered and built after all that time, allowing her to finally accept her AT fields and use them until the end.
It doesn’t matter how many times Shinji’s train-space in his head has to attempt to process the same information. It doesn’t get through until that very scene, and in a strange sense, made me truly enjoy Asuka as a character and thusly, that entire scene. It’s truly a shame it was resolved via domestic violence, but by the same token, has Shinji ever had such an authority with his voice to realize that it may have been effective in that moment? Not to say “boys will be boys” or anything of the sort, but by the same token, when you know nothing else aside from biting the hand that feeds, what will a wild beast do when they are taught nothing?
I’m honestly surprised that words are not talked about more in the series. Like the Spear of Longinius, they are more than capable of cutting through AT fields and resonating with the soul. You see them work and be effective with the improving synchronicity rates, when he surpasses Asuka. The positive reinforcement truly bolsters him and lets him stand for himself again after she initially arrives. Maybe it’s even what makes him desperate for her approval. Perhaps his loneliness had truly started to eat at him and she was the fastest person he could contact. There are a lot of different reasons that he could be so stuck on her. At the same time, though, from the perspective of a child deep in depression and torment, words are simply just noise that fill the air.
Speaking of which, many laud the series for an accurate depiction of depression and anxiety, and while I didn’t really get the feeling of the latter until End of Eva, Shinji’s self-affirmations and hesitance always had resonated with me. The feeling of not knowing what tomorrow will be or how the world will elect to view you always creeps in the back of your mind.
And before I forget: the original ending, while technically fantastic to break down and the message being amazing in its open-endedness, definitely left a lot to be had. That said, I am grateful it exists as it helps build more context for End of Eva. It gives an introspection on Shinji, and how he defines the human heart. The turmoil that fights at him while he sits under the staircase during the Seele raid, the thoughts that rush through his head while a giant Rei stares expectingly at him, the collective consciousness flooding through his head whilst he becomes fanta, they’re all proudly on display through those initial last two episodes.
However, I will definitely appreciate the End of Evangelion for tying everything very neatly. Knowing the fate of Shinji and the world appends to the message of the show. That despite everything, despite the apocalypse and nobody wanting to join you, you can find hope. You can carry what others have dropped and make sure your own dreams can be within reality. What others think of you shouldn’t matter. While external appreciation is nice, it shouldn’t define you as a person. However, it’s ok to be afraid. Otherwise, we would all be one person with several different bodies, and without each other being different in our own ways, there would be no reason to carry on anymore.
So, what do you wish for? What do you want? Would you like to be one, in body, in mind, and in spirit?
I didn’t realize I had this many words to say about Eva, but it did resonate with me pretty intensely. If you’ve read this far, thank you for listening to my rambling. It’s insane how content that’s produced from a region that is resistant to understanding mental health and from such a long time ago still has merit in this current age, but life finds a way. I definitely wish to watch the rest of the content that came out for this because it’s been an incredibly validating experience despite how unrealistic it is. Once I’m done with Eva, I’ll probably watch other things to make me feel absolutely horrendous and write about them here. Or not, who knows?
