I’m seeing a lot of Gadreel discourse right now on Twitter and I just wanted to say I don’t understand it. Ok so obviously Dean tricking Sam into being possessed wasn’t good. But what exactly did Samgirls want to happen? Dean doesn’t put Gadreel into Sam, Sam dies, show is over. There wasn’t an alternative presented. Dean explains possession to Sam without having Gadreel lie to him, Sam refuses, dies, show is over. Ighhhh I guess I’m upset because the narrative forced Dean into the position of not having a choice (a major point of the meta-narrative, incidentally) but fans still somehow blame him for it
I think the number one criticism to make about Dean in the Gadreel arc is that he agreed to keep Gadreel's possession under wraps. He was guilty and sad about it but he did agree to do that. There's some other weird stuff people want to add in and wag their fingers at Dean for that don't make sense to me. Like keeping Sam from committing suicide at the end of season 8. Apparently when your brother who insisted he was going to close the gates of hell and live through it turns around and has a meltdown about how he wants to die because you have friends you trust more than him, the correct response is to say "kill yerself"
Anyway I give my thoughts on the whole Gadreel thing more in depth here. And probably will talk about it more when I get to season 9 on rewatch.

Bro look at this frame. I still can’t believe mr. Servecuntix here is a real canon character. How did someone just enter the writer’s room and went like hey guys you know what our new Astérix le Gaulois™️ movie needs? TOXIC OLD MAN YAOI. And then they just made the BEST Asterix Villain Of The Week BY A LANDSLIDE. Not that the villains from the comic are bad, not at all, but none of them aside from Caesar were as cool and threatening as this guy. This movie truly feels like a fanfic in the best way possible I love it so much

i still just... *clenches fist* CANNOT GET OVER how good of friends mike and chuck are like it makes me weep sometimes just remembering it you guys 😭
they're always there to support each other, and always have each other's backs... but most importantly-- they got each other even when they're slipping
chuck was the 1st character ever to question mike's leadership and battle plans in the very 2nd ep. wellll unless you don't count dutch's disapproval of mike's plan in ep 1, but that was more pushback than an actual fullblown argument
mike was acting rashly, not thinking out his plan to use the core's power to defeat kane's hounds, and chuck rightfully bickered with him abt it for like 2 precious minutes while their base was being surrounded
Tumblr media
and he succeeded! mike did take the power core, but he didn't end up detonating it in the end even tho he wanted to! bc chuck's words affected him, saving motorcity-- and possibly the entirety of michigan as well
and on the flip side, chuck's insecurities get the best of him most times. this was especially devastating to mike in "fearless", and it all culminated in this big final fight they had where chuck almost killed mike
Tumblr media
but they ended up reconciling, bc mike KNEW what was eating away at chuck and confronted him abt it. his words to chuck were "being brave isn't abt not being scared, it's abt waking up everyday and doing what you do anyways despite it"
which is very true! chuck was sick and tired of being the butt of the jokes, the scaredy-cat, the coward. but mike cut thru all that bullshit and in one fell swoop, chuck was removing his booster and he was comfortable facing the kane grunts to deactivate the KMG before it killed all of the cablers.
mike recognized chuck's insecurity and got thru to him with the cold hard truth-- chuck was already brave, even if he was screaming thru the majority of their missions lol
one day i hope to be in a friendship like chuck and mike's, but until then i'm just sitting here admiring them like a goober :')

One of the things really striking me thus far on my s1 rewatch is how much it's implied that Mark and Petey actively tested their boundaries at Lumon.
We have Mark listing off all the ways Helly could try to get out a message to explain why they wouldn't work along with the accompanying punishments (the "bad soap" and some horrific implications around laxatives if they try to swallow a message). His remark about how Milchick can't always be "nice".
Petey mentions that they'd tried resignation requests and had them rejected as part of his explanation that they'd tried all they could on the inside before trying something else. But it does carry the implication that they'd been discussing this stuff together. Especially given how they were "one of the best office friendships" according to Milchick and the whole peteymark -> markhelly parallels that the show itself asks us to consider.
Mark's reaction to Graner, diving in to take the punishment on Helly's behalf because he knew he could handle it. The fact Petey had a recording of Mark in the Breakroom and the mention that Mark had had the most Wellness sessions. Of course, the Wellness sessions likely have other factors behind them (hi Ms Casey) but the first time we see them used is because Lumon is "worried about Irving". Wellness sessions are used as a pre-punishment as a default, which again, implies some level of "acting out" to get there.
Innie Mark is often portrayed as more naïve than his outie. And, sure, he hasn't got the same grief, but he's still jaded in his own way. He comes off as a yes man in early season one, but a lot of that is because he's tried all the options available to him. And losing his main companion in these endeavours was the final straw. He's gone from having someone alongside him to having no one at all. Irving is a rules stickler and Dylan cares more for the perks than trying to escape. Not just that, but Mark now has someone to take under his own wing in the form of Helly.
So, he buckles down, tries to guide her and protect her from the worst of it all, and lets go of his own attempts to escape. Avoids even thinking too hard about them, because he's Mark and that's what he does. But he still lets it slip in his advice to Helly and his later actions in season one show that he hasn't forgotten. He's just buried his head in the sand until someone is there to tell him to stop being an asshole.
It's not that he discovered how to rebel during season one. It's that he learnt to have hope.

Rewatching The Death Song of Uther Pendragon for the millionth time and goddd when Arthur is talking to Uther in the spirit realm!
Arthur starts of sounding so sure of himself, his choices, his kingdom- and then as Uther keeps berating him- his words turn to questions & he gets more & more unsure & begins to sound so shaky & like he's just asking to be loved 😭
(I also mantain that Uther probably spoke again as Arthur was leaving just bc he knew that would get him released)
