"There are always men like you."
I'm going to turn off the Loki Simp Machine in my head for a few minutes to admire the scene from The Avengers when Loki and his minions are in Germany. Especially this interaction between him and this elderly gentleman in particular:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"There are always men like you." Such a simple, yet powerful line that breaks down every authoritarian regime, and the mentality of their leaders. The look he gives him; a mix between disgust and a bit of pity... "You think you're a god, and above everyone else. You think you're so special. But you're not. There are always men like you."
I've always loved this scene and the fact that they chose this old man in particular to take a stand. We don't know anything about this man. We don't know if he is a veteran, a Holocaust survivor, or just a regular German citizen who is old enough to have lived through the horrors of Hitler's regime... Just that he has lived through life and has witnessed men like Loki to know that they're all the same. And that there are always men like him through every generation, wanting to rule everyone else, and that he wasn't going to kneel and let someone like him take power again.
Such a chilling scene, and this old man is so brave. I love this movie so much.

These two scenes mean so much to me. Logan really believed that his purpose will be fulfilled only if he dies a hero and Wade didn't want to let him die. When they saved the world and survived, Logan wanted to walk away from Wade but Wade asked him to stay. Logan thought that he isn't going to get a happy ending and probably that he doesn't deserve one but Wade didn't want to lose him. Imagine how Logan felt, after so many years of being alone, to finally have a friend who actually cares about him and wants him to be happy.

Every rewatch of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe I pick up on new things.
The second sword the Witch fights Peter with is Edmund's.
In the train station scene there's a man's voice in the background saying, 'Hold onto your brother's hand, and don't let him go. I love you!'
I love how they made the Witch's throne of ice, because ice can melt, but the throne Edmund is given by Aslan is made of stone. Feels like a 'house on sand vs house on rock' allusion.
I get goosebumps EVERY TIME Lucy enters the room with the wardrobe and the swing song cuts out into a ringing hush, and then when the cloth comes billowing down, the music swells, and it's one of my favourite little moments.
I also love how the camera angles show Lucy's face, and her wonder, before you, the viewer, see the wardrobe.
Susan is so so sweet to Lucy when they find Mr. Tumnus in the Witch's house, the way she holds her little sister close, and kisses her hair.
I think it's brilliant how terribly tall the Witch feels at first, particularly in her house, when she's standing over Edmund. She feels enormous.
And of course the costume changes, how her crown melts down, and her dress gets smaller and greyer, till it's almost black at the Stone Table, and then in the battle she's wearing a complete chainmail dress (very cool btw), like all her ice has melted down to stone, like she was really just a knife blade under all those frozen layers the whole time.
How the music dies out right before the first clash of the armies, so all you can hear is Peter’s heartbeat, and then again after Edmund gets stabbed by the Witch, but that time it's only Ed’s breathing you can hear.
This turned into me just raving about this movie in general, but it totally deserves it.

It was never about bringing Kira's mother back. It was about Edgin's selfishness in bringing HIS wife back, Edgin left his daughter alone to go on a dangerous heist to bring back his dead wife 'to be a family again' when Kira already had her family, that of which being Edgin and Holga (plus Simon). Kira's birth mother was someone she never met or knew and hadn't expressed any longing for (as far as we know) so the revival wasn't for Kira, it was for Edgin. He didn't think of Kira when deciding to go on the heist, he didn't think about the family Kira already had, he didn't think of his wife and her wishes either, he only thought of himself. It wasn't until Holga died that he realised it was more important that Kira had her mother than he had his wife, that he let go of his selfishness.

Can we talk about how in The Wild Robot, the minute Longneck was introduced, my brain immediately went to 'oh, he's probably going to turn out to be a villain or something,' because I have been SO conditioned by recent animated movies from Disney to expect a warm, kind and reasonable character (and often a male one) to be a twist villain, to the point it's such a lazy cliche now... but nope, Longneck truly was an empathetic and wholesome guy, and it speaks to how bereft of cynicism this movie was. Bless you Bill Nighy for being part of this.

So I've been thinking about Bottoms a lot, obviously, but there's something interesting I've noticed in the fan reaction to it. Now, as a lesbian in fandom, many of my ships are non-canon because duh obviously, canon sapphics are not common. And one of the things I would consistently see is people shooting them down with statements of "They're just friends, women can just be friends it doesn't always have to be romantic" you know. On and on.
That said, I haven't seen anyone shipping Josie and PJ together. Not telling you that you can't, if you do more power to you, just saying I haven't seen it. Everyone sees them as just friends and there's no need to push it because, for once, they both have their own ships separately. Not only that, but there are enough women in the cast that there's also A TON OF JUST FRIENDS RELATIONSHIPS.
So for everyone that has said "You're forcing it to be gay when it doesn't have to be" I say yeah, maybe so. But look at what happens when I don't have to force it. When two canonically sapphic characters can exist in the story as friends while still having romantic relationships with other people.
