smiles so widely this is a good one. here's the funny thing bill actually seems to be the most forgetful about things that are important to him. it lead to his downfall in weirdmagedon, he got so cocky in his plans he didn't even like. he can see the outcomes of the future and what's most likely! if he checked he could've probably seen oh this is heading down the path where i Die but he didn't because he was like psh... that's not even gonna happen. he's not very detail oriented like you might expect out of him.

however comma that's more of forgetfulness/careless rather then if he's forgotten anything. which he has. a lot of things, actually! He hasn't straight up forgotten what happened to his home dimension, he still like... knows what happened in the back of his mind. those memories are just so far repressed he basically can't pull them back up to the surface. at least not without a breakdown or blacking out. however! other things that are like.. adjacent to that do end up being entirely forgotten. like for example, taking over other dimensions! he goes into doing that, realizes ooooooh this is just like what happened to my home dimension, and sorta "reliving" that experience just causes him to like. black it all out. not saying that he doesn't make that active choice to do that or anything, he's like yeah i'll do this in aaaaa fun way yay!! and then things start burning and people start screaming and things start crumbling and hes like oh this is not as fun all the sudden. and then when its over and done with it sorta just gets really fuzzy until he cant even remember what happened there so he's like yay let's do it again! not to mention that like. the nightmare realm is a dimension that is actively crumbling and dying from very early on, dragging other dimensions into it is kinda the only thing keeping it alive so unless he wants to confront the reality of just letting it die, which we all know he has problems facing the music, he sorta cant do much else. plus! all his friends who live there with him are watching!! cant let them know that destroying things like that is a little distressing!! think of your merciless god persona!!

all that to say he tends to not remember important things whenever it like.. drags up those memories about home. stuff that reminds him of traumatic incidents. im sure if some like horrible medical incident happened to him in current day outside of the backstory medical horrors, he wouldn't remember that very well afterwards either, etc.

as for how afraid he is of it. well. it's less of like.. active fear and more of when he thinks about it too hard, theres this disquieting feeling. its unsettling. he tries to avoid those memories like the plague to begin with, so he doesn't think about it often, but yes, it is a little alarming to him that he can't recall it. what happened exactly? like. that's his life. he's supposed to know everything why can't he drag it up, what happened? why can't he remember if it was his mother or father who was red or blue? so he just opts not to think about it very hard. he'll have 5 more martinis to stop thinking about it, thanks.

Bill Cipher thoughts (BoB Spoilers Ahead)

I'm really sitting on how Bill's displayed so much of himself indirectly in the BoB. How during the Love section he denies having exes, marking them out. How said exes show up SEVERAL times scratched out or are regarded with this bitterness of someone who did NOT do the breaking up part. Bill got dumped. Every time. And is desperately trying to bury his feelings.

And that's something I think the Book of Bill really highlights in a way. The fact that Bill has feelings. That deep down he's a broken triangle. It's all over the book's writing. Him pointing out how to use denial and rationalization and other bad coping mechanisms to basically ignore and lie to himself (and show us how to do it) and basically convince himself that he is as heartless as he tries to be. Him avoiding his exes. The tone he uses and the avoidance really giving the "I don't handle breakups well and I'm still petty about it". Him constantly telling himself that he's fine. He's not fine. Him crying over Ford leaving and getting wasted. Him being bitter about the henchmaniacs not calling. His regret over what happened to his world. His loneliness. GOD his loneliness. His self-hatred. His scathing remark about definitely NOT having some tragic backstory that humanizes him and how he's not an "I can fix him case". Calling himself a monster. His longing for home. The "Last one breathing". The "I tried to change the past". The "my hands shaking, as I realized I could never undo the". The "until there was no one left but me, covered in blood, alone in the universe". The goddamn "I don't want to die alone" Valentine's card. The last few pages. Just, the last few pages. That isolation, his pained "I'M FINE". The almost sad plea for someone to let him out.

Bill cares. He's fucked up, unstable, violent. But he does care about people he gets along with and he feels understand him. For every "I'm just playing the bit" and using people with nice gestures, I think a fraction of that is somewhat genuine. And he hates it. He hates his own vulnerability. He hates his lack of apathy. He's denying himself his own emotions constantly under so many layers of distractions, eldritch horrors, and repression. He can't think about home, about failure, about how every relationship he's ever had, platonically or otherwise, ended. And it wasn't on his terms.

Him talking about/to his mom when he's drunk. How his mom called him Billy as a kid. How his home life sounded simple. How Bill as an individual is anything BUT simple. And how his drunken state holds such fondness for that simplicity, yet it was suffocating. How he would've broken free eventually, inevitably, because he knew that's who he was. It's his nature. He was destined for more.

How it cost him everything.

How he's constantly chasing insanity like it's a drug. Like he needs the power trip to stay high. To not think too hard. To drown out his emotions and his self-reflections and everything he hates about himself.

How in Gravity Falls he still tried to get Ford to side with him after everything, cause that was his vulnerability showing, for the slightest glimpse of a moment. Cause he doesn't want to do it alone. Him reaching out to the reader in his book, because he doesn't want to do it alone. Can't do it alone. Even when he eventually betrays that person, I think him offering Ford that cushy spot alongside his henchmaniacs makes me think that yeah, Bill actually would've upheld his end of the deal.

He thinks he wants multiversal domination. He thinks Weirdmageddon is his Magnum Oppus. His purpose. But he's so lost. If he ever does get what he wants, he won't know what to do with himself. He'll be faced with the "Now what?". He'll hit the end of the road and realize how unsatisfying it is. How this isn't what he wanted.

How lonely it is to be God.

I think the Axolotl sees that in Bill. It's why he doesn't try to destroy him or attack him or anything. He sees that inner self of Bill. Sees him for what he really is. Someone who needs a LOT of therapy, a true, honest to goodness friend or partner in his life, and maybe a more sustainable life purpose or hobby. He has so much potential and in a way his pursuit of power, rather than being an actualization of his abilities, is a waste of them, because it gets him nowhere.

And he needs help, even if he doesn't think he does. He's a depressed alcoholic frat boy trying to drown his misery in a way that hurts and kills worlds. He's a girlfailure, a bisexual/pansexual disaster (he's at LEAST canonically bisexual or at MOST canonically pan cause this guy has dated both ways).

Bill's book is so incredibly amazing for what it is. All the lies, all the unrealiable narrator parts of Bill's facades and flaws and him being himself and all of his genuine thoughts and feelings bleeding through the lines and showing themselves but only in a way that you can really understand if you understand him and can tell when he's lying and when he's not. To see the real parts of him, and everything else. This book was perfect, and it was perfectly imperfectly him. This truly is Bill's book. It's so him in such a raw and genuine yet dishonest way. I'm gonna cherish this damn book forever.

McGucket in Lost On Earth AU? 👀

He tried to remind Ford about Bill, especially when all the posters and stuff started appearing around the house, but it was just like the spell Ursula put on Ariel in the movie - everytime Ford’s reminded of something about Bill, especially if there’s evidence, he forgets about it immediately or doesn’t pay attention. After the portal incident, Fiddleford tried to reach out to Stanley, but he also didn’t remember anything about Bill at his point, and didn’t really want to help Ford anyway, so Fiddleford just gave up, and with the Memory Gun, he also forgot about Bill.

Also, when Bill was erasing Ford’s memories, he also got rid of the journal “prototype”, but something about it got stuck in Ford’s memories and that’s why the new ones look exactly like the old one looked like. Ford think it’s an idea he never used before, though.

I got really into the theory of the apple (from that one image from the beast yeast chapter 7/8 leaks) being the fruit of knowledge. And I thought, what if Pure Vanilla takes a bite out of it? (*^▽^)/★*☆♪

So here’s an artwork where Pure Vanilla is slowly going insane after taking a bite, and all Shadow Milk can do is hold him as he succumbs to the same insanity that claimed him so long ago. Fun stuff, am I right? ((o(^∇^)o))

You guys should be really glad I was too young to post online about Gravity Falls but now you guys have to deal with the whiplash of the Gravity Falls fan in me returning, and it was BAD…

One time at school me and my sister gathered a group of kids to make that Bill Cipher summoning circle (was it a summoning circle I actually forgot)… Jesus Christ…

Another time I grabbed my sisters 3Ds, recorded Bill Ciphers death, reversed it with the audio features on there, just to see what he said before he died, anyway I was freaking out over the axolotl thing for awhile ☠️☠️

do u guys ever think abt how the fandom blaming mabel and/or ford (this applies to other characters too but i mostly see it with them) for Everything is exactly what bill would’ve wanted. like it’s not his fault for tricking them, it’s their fault for falling for it

bill is the villain here - he’s the manipulator and the abuser and the one who wanted Bad Things To Happen. but somehow all the blame ends up falling on the shoulders of the people he used as unwitting pawns to achieve that goal

in fanfic & stuff i think a lot of this comes down to the fact that it’s easier to “punish” the human characters - they have loved ones and dreams and aspirations, and taking that away from them leads to more of an emotional impact than anything you could possibly do to bill. sure, you can kill him, send him to prison, make him do therapy, whatever, but he doesn’t have anything. there’s nothing you can take away from him that he hasn’t already taken from himself. as messed up as it is i think people just find it more satisfying to hurt someone who actually has a weak point, even if that person isn’t the one really at fault

anyways. idk i just think bill would really get a kick out of seeing people sympathize with him more than they do his victims
