It was as if his heart was struck by lightning upon hearing those words, it was as if time stood still and all there was, was them. The world became silent and all Aether could hear was his own heart pounding against his rib-cage, despite not feeling the least nervous. No, in fact, he felt immensely good, despite guilty too. He also felt utterly and hopelessly in love as he watched Xiao figuratively hold out his heart as he spoke those heartfelt words. It felt like someone was hugging the precious organ within his chest and he mentally reached out and tenderly accepted the adeptus’ heart, that had so beautifully been presented before him. How would he ever be able to decline? He could no longer imagine a world without Xiao in it - Aether didn’t want to imagine it. Such a world would be cruel, cold - meaningless. For it would be a world without his heart, without his purest and deepest happiness.

The words left him breathless, left him simply staring at Xiao with eyes becoming glossy, because he had been careless and hadn’t thought what these things would do to Xiao and for that he was sorry, despite feeling such endless amount of love. Aether could easily imagine what it did to Xiao, because he felt those emotions too, whenever the adeptus got hurt. In those moments, it felt as if his heart was going to tear, which was why, a few tears rolled down sun-kissed cheeks. Slender digits quickly reached up and wiped the tears away, even if it was a fruitless effort due to them continuing to fall like eye-catching stars, gently, until they hit the ground below.

“ I-I am sorry, I was being reckless. I just.. “

His heart was on his sleeves, Aether really couldn’t help it.

“ I know.. what you feel, I knew, I just.. I was blinded, I was scared of others getting hurt. I promise, to do better. I promise to ask for help. “
