If Aaron and Katelyn's love story was ever told from Katelyn's POV, I feel like it would follow so many YA romance tropes. Like the bad boy with an attitude problem who keeps pushing you away? It's because he has a tragic backstory and a strained relationship with his brother. He's occasionally extremely violent? Okay well he's also the sweetest and most caring boy in the world and like honestly he's just really misunderstood. You guys can see each other, but it needs to be a secret relationship. He's a jock, but like, he's not like other jocks. Also the mafia is involved somehow.

The biggest difference is that she never felt like she had to fix him (and he never had to fix her either) and for that I stan this couple so much.

You can love a character and still admit when they're wrong !! I love Korra but I can acknowledge her flaws (she has none) and can hold her accountable for her wrongdoings (she’s never done anything wrong in her life) and call her out for her actions (which are always correct).

We need to talk more about Melinoe's more impish characteristics cause they're understated but they're there. Nevermind that she's a witch brewing potions in the woods, growing her own reagents and picking mushrooms in the rain, and doesn't wear a bra and no pants. She also canonically takes people out into the woods for a lay and likes battling half naked enough to suggest that Nemesis ought to do the same. She manages to draw in all kinds of woodland creatures and the souls of deceased ones follow her post run. She's got thoose fae woodland princess vibes and somehow that meshes perfectly with the war child who sleeps with a sword under her pillow and is confused when asked if she's well cause being a tool for vengeance is her Purpose.

one thing that i've noticed and begun to seriously appreciate upon rereading the watch novels is --

sam and sybil are not in love when they get married.

they like each other, but they aren't in love. and i think this is why sybil seems to be kind of in the background of men at arms and feet of clay, like, sure, she's his wife and he appreciates her and cares for her but he doesn't love her -- yet.

and i think it's the knitting moment at the end of jingo when it happens to him. like that john green quote about how you fall in love slowly and then all at once? i think the moment when he comes home and she's been trying to knit him socks but she's no good at knitting and so it ends up being a scarf instead of socks -- i think that's the "all at once".

and then after jingo, suddenly sybil matters more to him, appears more in his thoughts, he's so proud of her in the fifth elephant for everything she does (she is such a badass in the fifth elephant), and it's the cigar case she gave him that is what he longs for amd desperately needs to hold onto in night watch, the memory of her. she's much more important to him and his perspective in the later watch books, and yes the doylist interpretation is that sir terry developed the relationship more as he grew as a writer because he didn't feel like he was very good at writing romance, but i like the watsonian interpretation --

that sam vimes was not in love with sybil ramkin when he married her, but instead fell madly in love with her along the way.
