Was talking to my irl about Jeremy and how crazy it is that he could very easily qualify to be a Fox and it got brought up how despite all of that it's so so important to Jeremy's character and healing journey that he was with the Trojan's instead. Like imagine he got the same drug treatment from the monsters that Matt did. I'm not sure he'd handle it at all. (Nothing against his character I just think that would literally be his final straw.) The tough love of the Foxes in general definitely has its place for the people that need it but the Trojan's provide a far gentler, forgiving environment. Same goes for Jean tbh even if the Trojan's didn't exist for him to go to I think I'd still be wildly averse to him joining the Foxes line. Renée and Kevin definitely knew this in their encouragement of Jean's transfer.

Answer: "The Trojans are sweethearts; hopefully they’ll keep it up throughout any & all future management changes.

The Trojans & Foxes do have a rematch the following year, albeit with different numbers – the Foxes have more players next year, so the Trojans are allowed to bring more to the court as well. This time the Trojans win, though it’s definitely a close call! The Foxes are happy with their performance and with the Trojans’ efforts, but losing there means going home – they draw straws for the second death match. So it’s a little disappointing.

Jean has a really rough time with the Trojans. I want to say “at first” but “at first” sounds so temporary, like a couple months of summer practices would be enough to really help him. In truth he has a rough time with them for the better part of his entire first year there.

He’s had a pretty awful time of things, and everything in King’s Men happened so fast – his abduction from Castle Evermore, his new unasked-for contract with Ichirou, the Ravens’ defeat, Riko’s death, and Tetsuji’s resignation —- after so many years of the same relentless abuse it is too much too soon for him to absorb. Hell, he and Kevin don’t even talk about Riko or Riko’s death until after the Foxes & Trojans face each other nearly a year later.

The good(??) news is that Riko’s death kind of breaks something inside him. Breaks? Breaks is a strange word, but I don’t have a better one. When Jean arrives in SoCal, he’s pretty numb. He is free and Riko is gone, he is free and Riko is gone, he is free??? It still feels like a trap. Riko is dead but the other shoe must drop at some point, right?

So yeah, Jean is a whole lot of Not Okay going into his new contract, but he’s surrounded by a team that is both willing to absorb his hurt & rage and completely unwilling to tolerate Raven strategies & attitudes on their court. They can work around his sullen silences and smother his outbursts and stand calm in the face of his anger when it finally has to break, when their pacifism and good nature is just too much for him to take and Jean has to lash out, and then they can just pick up and keep moving like “OK but did that actually help?”

Jeremy occasionally appeals to Kevin for insight on how the Ravens’ Nest worked so he can adjust his approach to Jean as necessary. Kevin helps where he can. Kevin is the one who warns Jeremy he cannot go anywhere alone, we Ravens don’t know how. Jeremy wars with this concept for a while, because he doesn’t want to encourage Jean to hang onto Raven ideologies, but he doesn’t want to make the transition any harder than it has to be.

((That is one of the hardest things for Jean to adjust to, is the fact that the Trojans are allowed to do things outside of Exy that don’t include each other. By the time he goes to California he’s been away from the Ravens’ hive mind for a couple months, but he’s spent that time hiding in a bedroom at Abby’s house. Being able to go to class or the grocery store or the gym without any of his teammates in attendance is just—unfathomable))

Renee is also hard at work behind the scenes, keeping in touch with Jean long-distance and giving him a safe place to vent about.

The further they get from Riko’s death, the longer Jean is surrounded by the Trojans’ easygoing attitudes, the more Jean talks to Renee and his new counselor, the easier it gets. Jean’s fifth year is calmer than his fourth year was, though he’ll never be true Trojan material. He’s still not okay when he graduates, but he’s significantly better, and he at least knows that he can maybe be okay one day."

Anyways here's a shit ton of headcanons and storylines

Bad Ben:

Story stuff--

His grandpa Max is not gone, just evil

Instead of the plumbers being intergalactic peacekeeping organization they are a anti-alien army set on separating Earth from other alien species.

Grandpa Max instills this idea that aliens are all bad into Ben and Gwen's head from a very young age

Grandpa Max adopted Ben into the plumbers organization way earlier. So he's kind of an alien butt kicking machine.

He's not a celebrity like Ben 23 but everybody knows who he is, He's seen as Earth's protector but not a hero.

He finds out that he's a quarter Anodite around the same time as Gwen (15). Well Gwen embraces her alien origin Ben is pissed and feels betrayed.

He decides to work with a different faction of the plumbers to separate himself from Grandpa Max

This faction works more with infiltrations rather than first line responders (if that makes sense)

Ben would currently be working on how to get rid of Gwen, Kevin, and the rest of the plumber kids including Argit who are seen as illegal aliens and are basically on the run.

Ben hides the fact that Gwen is his cousin and that he is a quarter and  Anodite. Cuz if it ever got out it would ruin his rep.

Personal--

I think he's super self-absorbed he'll take an extra few seconds just to look at himself in the mirror and sigh dramatically

He has a dog named Buster (or something stupid like that)

As mentioned Buster is the only living thing he actually seems to like.

Storyline--

His Grandpa Max is alive and well. There's no such thing as the plumbers but there is an task force specifically for alien activity which he is part of.

Aliens are not very common on Earth whatsoever and Earth never becomes a open planet. There's no undertown or anything like that.

Ben got the Omnitrix way younger I'd say around 7-8

At first he wanted to be a hero and use it for good but when immediate success didn't follow he gave up

They did not go on a giant summer road trip, the escape pod crashed in Grandpa Max's backyard or something like that

Grandpa Max is very bitter that he never got the chance to have the Omnitrix and Ben knows this very well.

As for Gwen she's never had an interest in the alien shenanigans and is more focused on normal life. She pretends to be dumber than she actually is secretly practicing magic with her friend Hope (aka negative charmcaster)

I think Gwen would be besties with Michael Morningstar and is dating Kevin who's this beach blonde jock.

Kevin is not a mutant in this timeline. Gwen basically uses him for money and to look cool. (We love toxic gwevin)

Ben has no ambitions in life and rarely ever uses the Omnitrix for anything. Since Earth is a closed off planet he kind of has no need.

His azimuth is dead and vilgax seems to not be in this timeline either

I think Ben is a super toxic person he reminds me of the sad boy flop version of Nicole from class of '09 if that makes sense

I think he has a super toxic relationship with Julie and then goes on to date Kai who in this timeline is a celebrity (she's a famous singer) the second him and julie break up. I think he would probably cheat on Kai with Hope (she's the same age as Gwen and Ben in this timeline)

Since they both got played they would leave his ass and he would be alone forever (possibly some toxic benrook, or bevin action)

In an effort to rehabilitate Rook and Ben both Grandpa Max teams them up to run missions and whatnot.

In this timeline Rook is a con artist, he is  ostracized from his home planet. (His parents hate him lol). And in an effort to not go to jail he agrees with Grandpa Max to team up with Ben.

I believe this Ben also has an Albedo who is super happy-go-lucky and was a big fan of azimuth and really wants to get to know Ben who is just not having it.

Storyline--

I think Ben had the spark as well as Gwen so they both were super into magic.

I also like to believe that Earth is more of a magic realm than it is a planet.

I think the virus that turned Ben into a zombie was not in undead thingy but more of a mana absorbing parasite.

Ben is still alive but has been reduced to Benzarro

I think before the apocalypse Ben and Kevin were really close (possibly dating) so when Ben started to get sick this caused Kevin to completely shut down and run away

Ben and Gwen were also way closer in this timeline than they normally are. So it explains why she would devote her life to a cure and assisting Dr. Animo.

Ben is also patient zero most likely because the Omnitrix not only carried dna of multiple aliens but also a parasite.

this also means that Ben got the Omnitrix way later I'd say around 14-15

as for Grandpa Max and the plumbers I don't think that there is really a need for them but I do believe that Grandpa Max was still there before the apocalypse trying to train Ben the best he could.

I feel like Grandpa Max doesn't have a very good connection with his grandkids on like Grandma Verdona who decided to stay on earth and train her grandkids.

Obviously she fleas the planet after the plague starts to take over and Grandpa Max is missing

As for the state of Kevin: he is camped out in some cabin in the forest trying to survive the best he can. He lives with Cooper who is basically his best friend through all of this.

I think Kevin is a full mutant in this (I'm using the rooters retcon for this) him as well as Cooper our immune to the virus since they have no magic spark. (They're basically the cure)

Personal--

He's very popular around school and stuff.

Definitely the golden child of the family

The names of all aliens end with "y/ie"

So like. "Goopie" "Shiny" "Helpie"

Before he gets infected he'd probably be the type to say that everybody's overreacting and that he doesn't need to wear a mask cuz he's built different... he's got magic and stuff

Storyline--

I haven't exactly figured out what caused the a post-apocalyptic landscape that mad lives in but I think it would have something to do with a plumber war that caused a possible nuclear (???) fallout

when Ben first finds the Omnitrix he's traveling with Grandpa Max and Gwen. They're kind of aimlessly roaming the desert in search of civilization.

The Omnitrix was in Plummer custody before everything kind of exploded and was just found in an abandoned building by Ben

Grandpa Max is extremely sick and ends up leaving Gwen and Ben so he can go pass on without them having to see.

they later get separated as Gwen is picked up by Verdona.

Leaving then to fend for himself for a little bit. 

Maltruant comes along and leads Ben him to Bellwood (or what's left of it)

him and vilgax then train Ben. I like to think the conditions are tough like Ben still has to hunt for his own food and fend for himself. As well as the fact that he probably gets punished for doing stuff wrong

Side note the vilgax the trains mad Ben is mad vilgax so when he is taken to go fight in the ben war he meets prime vilgax and thinks he's hella cool.

Mad Vilgax is a militant kind of commander who Maltruant specifically tracks down to train Ben and afterwards Vilgax dips

Rook kind of just arrives one day. He is badly injured and Ben kind of takes him in. They're both like 12 or 13 at this point

Ben and Rook develop a friendship until Ben is offered the position to start digging for pieces of maltruant

he starts to yell and get angry at Rook and basically is super toxic.

basically after the two part episode in Omniverse Ben goes a little stir crazy in jail and with the help of Dr Psychobos breaks out.

He runs away to try and find Gwen who at this point is very infamous.

there is an entire cult surrounding her as her followers believe that she has the divine power to save them and bring them to salvation.

this is obviously because she is an anodite. When Verdona took her she led her to the cult and basically made her their new center of worship.

anyways the reason why he's trying to find Gwen is because he knows she's magical and in his stupid little brain that means that she can bring him to Maltruant

he would probably take Kevin hostage (somehow idk that man's a tank) leading gwen to confront him and they would have a big fight

Rook has also been looking for Ben this whole time

Personal--

He has a really bad anger issues that he's had since he was a child

He skilled in many different fighting styles so is still versatile even without his omnitrix

Thoughts on Kevin or your favorite things about his character and relationship with others ?

I like Kevin a lot as a character, as of now he’s the most complex out of the cast and he has the most interesting relationship dynamics with Andrew, Neil, Jean and (ugh) Riko. I actually wasn’t crazy about him until TSC tbh. Seeing him through Jean’s eyes was a revelation: his tender, kind gestures to Jean mean the world to me. How he was this kind in the nest while being Riko’s brother? A miracle.

Right now I’m most intrigued (and afraid to learn more) about his relationship with Jean at the nest. How much exactly did he know about what Riko was doing to Jean, if the “if we were ever friends” line means that at some point they had fall out and when did it happen, does he know about Elodie? Will Nora have them talk about the nest in the next books? I’m scared.

I also like his relationship with Wymack (even though Wymack didn’t handle him well at times) and I wish Kevin talked more about his mom too, like, they lived together until he was 12. Does he have pictures of her? Where did they live? I think they were kinda rich. Also— how exactly did him and Jeremy become friends?

Something about him that makes me sad is how he hasn’t made any supportive and attentive relationships since leaving the nest? I used to think that’s not what he needs but seeing him in TSC made me realize he’s a deeply emotional person. But right now he doesn’t have anyone who really treats him gently and comforts him, even though he’s had quite a few panic attacks throughout the trilogy (they just give him alcohol!) Andrew, Neil and Wymack more or less all give him tough love (Wymack is more soft with him but— the alcohol!!) and Thea is playing pro miles away. I guess there’s Abby but we don’t her much.

ok lets start with the bits i loved:

i almost screamed when we saw andrew and kevin on page and the fact that neil didnt tell either of them he was going to california AND that they instantly knew that he was behind graysons death. DELICIOUS. tbh every time any of the foxes were on page i was smiling so big

the ravens getting suspended so early??? INSANE choice that i dont think any of us saw coming, like in the last 10 years of fic we always had a crazy trojans-ravens rematch. i cant deny i was dying to see the trojans wipe the floor with the ravens like they deserve to but at least this way jean never has to visit evermore again😍😍😍 that whole scene was truly incredible though like dan tackling someone to protect kevin??? the fact it took multiple people to pull andrew off the raven who hurt neil???? the fact that matt and aaron INSTANTLY went for the ravens who attacked andrew??? NEILS BROKEN RIBS??? that last part is 100% gonna come up again, idr who knows about it but as soon as one of the trojans connects jeans broken ribs to neils theyre gonna know exactly how jean was injured

also the scene with jean having his breakdown in front of rhemann almost brought me to tears ... "fathers" 😭😭😭

OHHHH how could i forget, when jean throws bryson into lailas car!!!!!! what a fucking MOMENT jean moreau u will always be famous. and in the same vein the game where he says to his mark in french "you should be glad they have be on a leash" LOVE IT. character capable of insane violence just barely being held in check MWAH

and then the bit where hes teaching the freshman drills and he automatically raises his hand to strike them and then just bolts in the opposite direction😭😭 jean my baby i would love to know what was going on in his head at that point

its also very interesting how neils plan of "tell the fbi abt his father but nothing about the moriyamas" seems to be .... disintegrating ... the fact that so many outsiders are aware of something being super sus, what was that line? something like "how come two major crime lords got their sons into class 1 exy?" my prediction for book 3 is another ichirou appearance. idk what the fuck hes gonna do but hes gonna do something im so sure of it

this was only briefly touched on but jean getting to play without being injured .. my personal headcanon has always been that even though jean is already an incredible player hes actually better than anyone could have imagined bc hes always had to play through injuries, and that when he fully recovers hes simply unbeatable

also the whole "exy is not fun" exchange was so interesting ... makes me wonder if somehow jean will get a future where he doesnt have to play exy ......

ok now to my critiques. disclaimer that all of this is said with love and i will follow noras characters to the end of the fucking earth

but WHAT is up with the pacing?? in the original trilogy each book took place over ~3 months or so but in 2 books we havent even gotten to halloween?? how will we make it to finals in the last book??? either the last book will be a chonker or we will finally start getting small timeskips, tbh tho both are good options

i wanted so much more exy than we got, the practise scenes were amazing with jean doing his whole "just call me and you will recieve the ball exactly how you need it" AMAZING SHOWSTOPPING INCREDIBLE but then during the games the pov is so checked out .. i understand the narration will never be the same as neils but like, during the second on page game it wasnt even stated who was winning until the end???? i ws literally reading like COME ON GUYS PAY ATTENTION PLS

for a loooooong while i simply liked him because of Jean, because he was basically a pretty vase i could fill up with whatever flowers of personality i felt like. now with the TSC trilogy, haha! he's got a little sour taste and i can't say i'm mad about it! he intrigues me SO MUCH. also i don't trust him :)

Since I saw many people complaining about Ace Attorney name change or something and that I have way too much time on my hand I present you:

Me showing you the name change in the french version and then re-translating them back to english so you can see the difference in word-play, edition 1 on the first game.

Lotta Hart: Eva Cozésouci, play on "elle va causer des soucis" meaning "she is going to be trouble", which I find kind of more appropriate. Also not name related but they changed her "southern country accents" by a "Marseille accent" a southern french city whose accent is often mocked. Find it funny that If they're is one thing 'Murican and French share is their love of making fun of southern accents.

THINGS I LIKED (in no particular order)

andrew. (i feel like i really enjoyed his characterisation even tho it wasn't accurate. like it still felt sort of like him just like he was more vocal??? more expressive??? idk like his real personality was all there. i feel like he didn't really do anything that canon andrew wouldn't do, he just did it more openly. i love the way he handled neil and i love his smartass comments he genuinely made me laugh. and yeah protective andrew is near and dear to my heart)

kevin-neil dynamic (i would include jean in this but i hate to say it i feel like jean didn't quite fit in the narrative. like he was just there. but he didn't have a LOT of personality. it's fine tho we have tsc and that's enough for me. anyway. i loved kevin and neil's sibling dynamic it was SO funny i think they deserve to have more silly brotherhood moments in canon. i also liked how the author rlly deepened their relationship and there were a lot of layers to their bond)

SETH (i'll say it till the day i die seth deserved better. i feel like dfodaf perfectly illustrates how seth could've been if he had been allowed more time and a redemption arc. maybe it was a little rushed but i LOVED the way he became like a protective older brother to neil and actually learned about his mistakes and was willing to own up to them. GOD he had so much potential)

martyr!neil (IDK I KNOW IT'S TOXIC IT WAS JUST REALLY REALLY WELL DONE. it's not completely in line w canon neil's personality tbh but i feel like the author just got one of neil's key personality traits (a penchant for self-sacrifice and getting into near death situations) and just exaggerated for narrative purposes. which i can respect. and i just genuinely think neil is the bestest boy and this is probably very similar to what he could've been like if he had grown up in the nest)

andreil build up (i say build up bc that's the part i loved most abt their relationship in this fic. like it just felt very right for them to be together romantically after everything they went thru in this fic together. and i feel like andreil is a difficult ship to rewrite and make good bc of how well nora developed the intimacy and trust between them but this fic did it right. like the amount of trust they had in each other rlly warmed my heart!!! and i'm honestly a bit of a traditionalist and i like to stick to the canon but i think within the context of this fic their relationship was developed perfectly and paced perfectly. it just felt like the final piece in the puzzle slipped into place when they actually officially got together. like it just made sense. bc they already had that pre-existing foundation of trust and consent and they already knew each other really well. and their banter!!! it was so well written and funny. they had GREAT chemistry. they cooked w this one)

THINGS I KINDA DIDN'T LIKE (no hate!!! i'm just a natural hater and these r just some criticisms)

neil. (SORRYYYY i just can't stand when they mischaracterise my boy!!!! i feel like it kind of is a personal preference but reading this fic didn't really feel like i was reading neil. i think in the first half it was fine and i wasn't bothered by it too much but by the second half it kind of took me out of the narrative. like the neil i know and love isn't this vocal or this open about like...anything. like i just felt like neil in this fic was just very like out there and a lot louder and more...talkative??? than neil in canon. and i think it bothered me a lot bc one of the things i love most abt neil is his quiet (until he's not) personality. like he's really chill and just isn't as like vocal as he was in this fic. again it's probably just me, but i just feel like the neil characterisation in this fic didn't feel quite right to me)

the dialogue (not all of it but a lot of it i remember being like oh ok. like it felt a little too...like blunt??? like the dialogue felt kind of jarring bc i feel like real ppl wouldn't speak like that. a lot of the conversations felt kind of awkward (this isn't me imposing my own like preferences onto this fic even within the narrative it didn't feel right) and i feel like a lot of what aftg does right in terms of writing is showing not telling the characters' thoughts and feelings whether thru actions or expressions. but in this fic it kind of felt like the characters were all just saying exactly what they were thinking and feeling and experiencing at all times and it kinda took me out of the story)

ok that's it. the things i liked outnumbered the things i disliked but the things i disliked were some pretty big things. STILL. i digress. i think writing such a long and complicated fic abt such a well-loved piece of writing is such a skill and i think the author did great even if there were things i personally didn't love about it. go read it PLEASE so i can discuss this w ppl. CHECK TW!!! there are a lot and this fic is very dark and very heavy and difficult to read at times. anyway. props to the author i had a great time.

no bc when I read aftg for the first time like at age thirteen or something like that I genuinely had no clue who Neil was supposed to be paired with in this series like literally going into it all I knew was gay mafia sports and it genuinely shocked me that it ended up being Andrew lmfaoo. idk who I thought it would be tbh, perhaps Kevin?, but yea like I didn't twig it was Andrew until this exact line and I remember being like oh my god this makes so much sense how have I been this dense lmaoo

also just reading this scene now makes me scream I love unfiltered Neil being his best snarky sarcastic self and I love seeing Andrew's loyalty

So I did go see the Borderlands movie this morning, and holy cannoli, it was a flaming dumpster fire of a movie. Spoilers about below just FYI

However!

Kevin Hart ended up being one of the saving graces when I thought he would be the worst of the lot! Sure, he doesn't physically embody Roland from the games, but performance and combat-wise, he was very solid! Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis was alright as well. She nailed a lot of Tannis' mannerisms to a T, and overall, unlike Lilith and Moxxi, I didn't mind her being aged up. Kreig was great despite being pretty much silent most of the game, and looked like he'd been quite literally pulled right out of the game and dropped into the movie.

Tina was very meh, it's like they wanted her to me more unhinged but restrained themselves at the last moment, and it doesn't work in the Borderlands world. They also had this thing where she's really a clone of a supposed "Daughter of Eridium", whatever the hell that means??? I think if it had been rated R or unrated like it should have been, Tina would have made more of an impact, but she just ended up being very meh.

Lilith was...well, I'm not sure. Most of the movie kinda centers around her backstory/her mom, which tbh is not what I wanted to see from a Borderlands movie? Like seeing some twists about Pandora/her being older was fine, but to have almost everyone fawning over her/her mother got old super quick, and they waited until the end for her to be the badass siren we all know and love??? I'm not the biggest Lilith fan, but Cate did her best with a script that couldn't decide if they wanted Lilith to be an asshole or sympathetic, which for an actor who's played/loves the games, has to suck :/

Jack Black was not great, and to find out he VA'd the Claptrap lines before they started filming makes his odd detachment make so much freaking sense. It always felt like Claptrap was just slightly removed from everything, and I couldn't nail down why until I googled that midway through the movie (which btw my sister, a friend, and I were the only ones in it lol). They should have just gotten the VA for him, Jack was not it :/

The CGI was either really good or really bad, and Lilith's wig did not blend in with any of it at all lmao. The sets/Pandora/costumes, aside from Tina's, were pretty damn good, but where it really shined was the guns. I could literally point out specific guns and their manufacturers despite all the motion of combat, and to be able to do that for even a casual gamer? Loved it.

Sadly though, despite them having been credited for months leading up tot he film, Hammerlock, Wainwright, Ellie and Scooter all got cut from the movie and it's a fucking travesty. I was kind of hoping Hammerlock would kick ass, but to get to the end and find out the asshat who ruined this movie said "oh they were gone for pacing" made me SO mad.

THEY FILMED A WEDDING SCENE YOU ASSHAT, I WANT THAT FOOTAGE AND I WANT IT NOW

Overall, my score is a 1.5/10

An incomplete list of things I think will happen in tsc3:

- Foxes v Trojans will be Kevin’s perfect game. It’s the culmination of everything he’s ever wanted out of exy. Even if it’s not for the championship title or even a Fox win (which tbh I don’t think it will be bc I don’t foresee the Foxes winning the whole thing) it will be perfect for him. I would also accept a Fox v Trojans scrimmage

- Jeremy finally gets out of his mother’s house. I don’t think he’d 100% cut her off, maybe she has a come-to-Jesus moment and realizes how terrible she’s been to him for years (probably not), but he deserves to get tf out of there regardless

- Jean is going to beat the shit out of Faser if he gets anywhere NEAR him. The second that mf steps on private property with no cameras he’s a GONER.

- I don’t think the Moriyama’s are going to be dismantled/brought to justice. I’ve seen some people say they think they will but law enforcement in aftg has always been depicted as corrupt/horrible at their jobs and I don’t think it’s realistic that the system will ever pull itself together enough to take down the empire the Moriyama’s have built. Maybe it’ll work out where they need to cut all ties with exy as a whole and the perfect court will be able to get out of their deal, but there’s no way the entire organisation will be taken down

- Joshua depiction perhaps??? Figuring out what he texted Jeremy perhaps??? Idk there must be something there

- Speaking of the Knox/Wilshire siblings I think Annalise will be the first (or maybe only) one to actually show up to a Trojan’s game and try to start rebuilding her relationship with Jeremy. They were close with each other before and I think she’d be the most willing to mend their relationship out of any of them

- Elodie is alive. I don’t think she’s the Marseille French tutor, I can kind of see her being one of the Fox’s freshman (they passed Jean off as a freshman in college when he was around her age), but I do think she’s alive. Maybe the French tutor is housing her and trying to keep her from their parent’s old contacts coming for her??? Idk

- Jean is going to formally meet Mathilda and Jeremy’s stepdad (whose name I don’t care enough to remember right now) and it’s not going to go well

- I really hope this doesn’t happen but I think the Wilshire’s mistreatment of Jeremy is going to push William far enough that he quits. He treats Jeremy like a son and cares about him so much and I can’t imagine it’s easy for him to sit there and watch him be so miserable all the time, and I think it would be the wake-up call Mathilda needs to realize how terrible of a parent she’s been

- Jeremy’s bio dad shows up and is not as big of an asshole this time??? Perhaps??? Idk I hope for Jeremy’s sake that at least one of his parents isn’t shitty all the time

- Cody/Pat/Ananya has to happen in this book or I will mail my tears directly to Nora with express shipping

veronica posts stuff like "unpopular opinion: [something really inflammatory]" or "am i the only one who [something that causes many people to rush in and say that they agree with her]." basically she puts engagement above all else and finds great success that way

kevin believes every single theory that passes in front of his eyes. he's very into the numerology of it all and believes she is sending him messages through even her casual outfits. obviously should the tide ever turn against her again, he is going with the tide.

betty also loves the clues, but she's far more judicious about which ones she believes than kevin is. she will occasionally lean gaylor if that's where the facts take her, but she mostly gets likes on joke posts.

cheryl is a gaylor for sure. it's partly rooted in her already seeing things through a queer lens and partly rooted in her being nosy as fuck, but she knows the texts and the theories, make no mistake about that. toni is a more casual fan, but cheryl got her into gaylor stuff, and she thinks it's fun in a semi-ironic way

I actually didn't view Kevin as a coward myself until recently. Seeing Nora say Neil wouldn't have left Jean at the Nest changed the way I saw Kevin. I don't think anything can change my mind now tbh.

Especially because in some ways, like the other anon said, it could have been harder for Neil to stay. He would have been property like Jean, unlike Kevin. He wouldn't have gotten to travel or leave the Nest or been loved by the public, etc. He probably would have endured similar physical, psychological, and sexual abuse that Jean did.

I know it's hard to say who has it worse in the Nest (and cults in general). But I know for certain if somebody told me I had to join one and I had the choice of being 2nd/3rd in the hierarchy (depends on whether you count Tetsuji), or being even lower than dead last, like I'm literal property of the cult and its leaders... I'm choosing 2nd/3rd...

hi!! i can actually see that, but i think for me i don’t really count levels of cowardice based on whether he stayed or not.

don’t get me wrong, i think that the way he did it, using jean and all, wasn’t the bravest thing at all.

but i actually think that leaving in the first place was a brave act. especially when the nest was what he knew best, and in the series we see this very clearly in the way that he acts (still has some raven reflexes/habits)

i do think neil would have stayed (based on his personality not was nora said) but is it bravery? or recklessness? because we know neil has a tendency of putting himself in very dangerous/mortal situations, and i’m not sure that this equals bravery to me (not yet set on this, would need a ten hours discussion)

my bottom line is that i feel we could argue that neil is also a coward in some ways, but in the end no one really thinks that because his ultimate choices are bold, and this boldness i believe is a mix of recklessness and courage (i personally don’t think i see neil as a coward either, but he fits the comparison)

i think kevin is similar to him in that sense, but without the recklessness. he’s not reckless that’s for sure. he’s cautious, prudent in the way he acts (mostly in front of the public eye)

i also dont believe that kevin should have stayed in the nest for jean. like i get the whole, he left him there alone, and i totally agree that using him was wrong (as jean said, he didn’t have to slit his throat on the way out) but staying wouldn’t have made him brave to me.

i’ll make a small comparison that might not talk to you and then i’ll stop bc this is becoming way too long but basically i’m in the marauders fandom and there is a similar situation where Sirius Black left his abusive home (House of Black) and “left” his little brother Regulus Black behind. and there is a huge discourse about who was right (sirius for saving himself although he left his brother who wouldn’t come with him, or regulus for resenting him for leaving/thinking sirius should have stayed) but one thing everyone agrees on is that Sirius is one of the bravest characters.

kevin and sirius black are very different but basically i don’t believe that one can mesure cowardice/braveness on whether someone stays of leaves an abusing household. in the end it’s about survival and i’m not sure that bravery/cowardice have a place in survival.
