Good Fences (Fluffuary #26)
FEB26: Try New Things
Your bags were packed, and your passport was clenched tightly in your hand as you went through security. You’d never been on a plane before, and now here you were, getting special treatment from some of John’s friends and being flown all the way to England. It was a dream come true for you. You’d always wanted to travel abroad, but you had to admit that it was giving you no small amount of anxiety. John’s old team was joining you, along with some other soldiers, as they had all just been debriefed from whatever massive mission had just been concluded.
John had spared you the details. All you knew is that some Russian terrorist had been taken care of, and now the world had a little more peace than it did before. You wondered to yourself if it had been John’s doing. You imagined him raising the gun and ending the life of some selfish man halfway across the globe, but you tried to put it out of your mind. John didn’t like to upset you with those sorts of things, so you tried to respect that boundary.
Soap wrapped an arm around your shoulders,
“Are ye ready, hen? Big flight. Gonna meet your wee mother-in-law. Tha’d be enough to scare me.”
“His mom is wonderful!” You protested, “I’m excited to meet her in person. It’s just the plane that I might not enjoy so much.”
You eyed the huge, private jet and as you approached it, the wings and body loomed larger and larger.
“You alright, love?” John helped you with your bags and got you seated next to him on the plane.
The seats were cozy and everything felt nice, but you were scared about your first flight.
He pet your hair out of your face and held your hand between both of his,
“Gonna be some loud engine sounds, and the take off is bloody fast, but you’ll be alright, missus. I promise.”
You leaned your head on his shoulder and tried to anticipate all of the things he said. When the flight crew went over the safety information, you read through the card twice. Then, it was time to take off.
The whirring spin of the propellers made the whole plane vibrate, and you heard the machines spooling up, gaining in speed and power. You gripped John’s hand tighter, and he held you close to him. The runway flashed beside you through the windows and just when you thought it wouldn’t possibly go any faster, it did. All of a sudden, you were weightless, and the ground disappeared below you. You were flying, and you were amazed by it.
“Oh, my God,” you whispered, staring out the window.
“Right?” John agreed, “Proud of you, love. You did it.”
“Yeah, but now we have to land.”
He chuckled,
“Plenty of time between now and then. Wanna watch a film? I can read to you.”
You asked him to finish his book. You loved listening to him read. It was something you did together frequently, and it really helped to calm you down. Before you knew it, you were being woken up with some breakfast and tea, about an hour from the end of the flight.
John was still holding your hand, rubbing your knuckles with his thumb, staring out at the long, flat expanse of the British Isles as they came into view.
You squeezed his hand,
“You excited to be home, John?”
He didn’t look at you, at first, but he said,
“You are my home, love. I never left.”
A short one! Sorry!!

want me when i'm not there by @backbenttulips
Paul cheats on Linda with John and she's fucking furious about it. Give me a fic where she behaves in a normal way instead of reacting like a McLennon shipper or saying "that's nice honey" and accepting an unfair scenario where Paul can have a boyfriend but if she had one he'd go batshit. PLEASE lots of Paul making pathetic excuses ("I said I wouldn't have other women! It was only blowjobs!") and her being the boss she is. PERSECUTE THAT MAN.
The Rockingham Club Mystery by WordsofLove42
Paul/Robert, Paul reporting to Robert about his time with another man (Robert had been his only male partner up to then) and telling him all the things that were similar and different about the experience. Maybe Robert feels a bit smug and maybe also a bit inspired?

Paul and Brian cross paths on a night out at the clubs. After a mixture of several drinks/substances, and the subsequent effect of severely lowering the pair’s inhibitions, Paul begins to question Brian about his relationship with John. [How far Paul pushes the discussion and the extent of what Brian reveals are both up to the author. Tone and any pairing involving the three also up to the author.]

Send It Now, Write Away…
All those songs where the narrator is longing for communication with someone. Old-school stuff: letters, cards, phone calls.
In most cases, he’s wanting the other party to contact him. In ‘No More Lonely Nights’, he’s the one contemplating making the call and the official video gives us a perfect visual expression of this.
In the video, the song itself is topped and tailed by scenes in a cinema projectionist’s room. Paul plays the projectionist, who, while making himself a cuppa, decides to phone someone (perhaps inspired by the film he’s showing?)
There’s a sense that this is a call he’s made or contemplated making many times. He dials the number - 1663552 (anyone?) - but it rings out. He puts the earpiece to his lips before hanging up.
Some cat and mouse antics ensue, with our hero following the cat up the stairs, brew in hand, to the roof. At this point the song begins.
We get some rooftop views of London and the Thames, followed by scenes from Broad Street. The song ends and we return to the, empty, projection room. As the film reel runs out, the phone rings but our guy’s not there to answer it. What we’ve got here is a failure to communicate.
Not all these songs will have the same impulse. Paul’s talked about ‘Call Me Back Again’ as a 50’s style boyfriend/girlfriend lyric, though many have suggested that the timing of the writing of the song reflects Paul’s phone-based relationship with John and the possibility of him joining Paul and Wings in the studio in New Orleans.
‘Anyway’ is a song I’ve seen described as reflecting communication problems with Heather Mills towards the end of their relationship, although I can’t find the original source for this idea. We do have this from Paul:
“ ‘Anyway’ was a little song that became a bigger song. The thoughts in it are quite little, but somehow when you set it down as a song it becomes bigger. And those kind of surprises are what I do music for”.
That is quite telling, I think. A song can be inspired by a contemporary thing going on in his life but can then spread out beyond that. “I’ve been waiting, waiting so long” and “in my soul is constant yearning” speak of a longing that goes much further back, doesn’t it? Songs can develop from one idea and go beyond it.
You need love, write a letter, you need love write away. Get it down, you'll feel better, send it now, write away (Write Away)
If you love me, won't you call me, I've been waiting, waiting too long…in my soul is constant yearning (Anyway)
Give me your number, I'll give you a ring…Oh, man, I know I won't be lonely any more… me and my phone, I'm gonna call your home (I’ll Give You A Ring)
Send a card to me (Rainclouds)
Keep on sending your love in the heat of battle (Save Us)
When you're ready, let me know. I'll be waiting to make arrangements for the trip (If You Wanna)
I can wait another day until I call you. You've only got my heart on a string and everything aflutter (No More Lonely Nights)
I called your house, every night since then. But I ain't never, no no never heard you calling me, come on and call me back again (Call Me Back Again)
When I want ya, do I get ya? All I needed your number. Will you give me your number (The Mess)
Let me be the one you wish for, one you call for, when you're all alone. (Off The Ground)
And I read the note that you never wrote to me (The Note You Never Wrote)
If you want my love, leave your name and address (Name And Address)
All alone, I sit home by the phone, waiting for you, baby" (Say, Say, Say)
Weirdly, even in ‘Lindiana’
If i can be of help in matters such as these, don’'t hesitate to call, I’d only be too pleased to take a look. (Lindiana)

Aziz Ansari cast Keanu Reeves as an angel named Gabriel in his new Lionsgate film Good Fortune, but God apparently wasn’t looking out for Reeves when he tripped on a rug in his trailer.
“About 15 days into shooting with me, I said, ‘Go chill in your trailer,'” Ansari recalled during an appearance at CinemaCon on Wednesday. “He tripped on a rug … Poor guy, he was such a trooper, and he fractured his kneecap and continued to do all the scenes.”
Ansari, appearing opposite Lionsgate’s motion picture group chair Adam Fogelson during the studio’s presentation in front of theater owners, suggested that the accident was even more striking considering that through all his physically demanding work in action pics like the John Wick franchise and Speed, “he never had to go to the hospital or anything.”
After an image surfaced earlier this year from the set showing Reeves on crutches with his knee wrapped in bandages and an ice pack, Ansari noted that #GetWellSoonKeanu was trending. He, for one, was not surprised. “He actually is an angel,” he said. “He’s been pretending to be human for all these other roles.”
Wednesday was a big moment for Ansari, who has been trying to get his feature directorial debut off the ground for some time, and he nailed it. Not only did he bring his sharp stand-up skills and have the Colosseum crowd in stitches, the footage he debuted of Good Fortune couldn’t have landed any better than it did. Prior to today, not much was known about the film aside from the fact that it finds Ansari starring opposite Reeves, Sandra Oh, Seth Rogen and Keke Palmer.
Before he took the stage, Fogelson praised Ansari as a talented and intelligent multihyphenate. “This movie is entirely unique,” Fogelson said, adding that audiences would undoubtedly see elements of other iconic body-swapping comedies.
The footage, shown only to CinemaCon attendees, opened with a shot of Reeves standing on a dome overlooking a sprawling city. His angel wings are visible on his back and a voiceover finds the star explaining his role as a guide who wants to help people in their lives. The next shot is of Ansari’s character asleep in a Denny’s diner booth as he’s reprimanded by a male staff member.
It’s revealed that Ansari plays a man who is down on his luck and struggling to make ends meet. He takes on gig work as a task rabbit of sorts, which eventually leads him to the home of a wealthy man named Jeff, played by Seth Rogen, who lives large in a modern mansion with all the trappings of success, like cars, a pool, a disco club in the basement and plenty of wild L.A.-style parties. Ansari helps him out with a series of tasks — from fixing his pool to finding him a shaman for an ayahuasca journey — only to fall further into tough times when his car gets towed from the Denny’s parking lot.
At that point, Reeves appears standing on the restaurant’s oversized sign and comes to help. “My name is Gabriel and I’m here to save you,” he says. “Normally I’m in charge of saving people from choking or texting while driving. … I need to show you that your life is precious.” Thus begins a hilarious montage that shows how the angel helps by swapping Ansari’s character with Jeff so that he can see how the other half lives. “Maybe I can show you that Jeff’s life is not all that it’s cracked up to be.” However, all doesn’t go according to plan when Ansari’s character actually loves the life. “Don’t you see how superficial a life of wealth and success is?” the angel asks, to which Ansari’s character gives a quick, “No.”
Because the angel’s experiment didn’t work out, a fellow angel, played by Oh, turns up to take Gabriel’s wings from him, sending him down to Earth to live among regular people. Hijinks ensue as Gabriel’s work starts to unravel around them.
“I have been doing some work that was more dramatic recently. I wanted to do a comedy and I wanted it to be in theaters,” Ansari explained of his inspiration for writing, producing, directing and starring in Good Fortune. “I don’t buy into this theory that theatrical comedies are not a thing.” He cited Barbie’s billion-dollar success as an example. “I’m really happy that we are able to partner on this. I think if we all work together, we can show people it can work. I think we can do it.”
To further prove his point, Ansari quipped, “We have fucking Keanu, man.” Of landing Rogen, Ansari said the two have been friends for a long time and have always been looking for something to partner up on. After writing it, “He was immediately in my head,” he explained. “I can’t imagine a better cast to get as a director.”
Ansari also opened up on his creative process by saying that he did lots of research and even interviewed gig workers to find out what that life is like. Ansari directed from his own script. Anthony Katagas (Armageddon Time, Amsterdam), Alan Yang (Loot, Master of None) and Ansari are producing with Brady Fujikawa and Jon Humphrey overseeing for the studio.

Disney Month: Kidnapped
First review oF Disney Month is a review of an adaption of A Robert Louis Stevenson classic,Kidnapped
In this 1960 film David Belfour (James McArthur) is kidnapped by Captain Hoseason(Bernard Lee ) on orders by Davids evil uncle Ebenezer (John Laurie ) to sell David into slavery ,but DAvid joins forces with the Scottish soldier Alan Breck Stewart (Peter Finch ) to escape and reclaim what is his
So I had never heard of this film till a few years ago,no one talks about it......Which is a shame cause it is great ,in fact I like it better then Treasure Island which critics at the time compared it unfavorably to,this might be a new favorite of mine
I like are two heroes.I can see someone seeing David is dull, but while he isnt as colorful as the other characters,he is a likeable heroic character ,I liked when the Captain and Shuan are letting David in on their plan to murder Alan ,David immediately goes to Alan who he doesnt know and is like "The Captain is planning to kill you ,I dont trust him,I'm teaming up with you " .PEter Finch as Alan pulls off being both arrogant but a badass who readdly cares for DAvid
The villains are great,Uncle Ebeneezer is the main antagonist ,played to hammy perfection by John Laurie ,hes definately a somewhat comical villain but still a creepyness and almost despertness to him .I also really like Captain Hoseason, who I think is a very realistic villain ,a shady oppurtunist and I gotta admit,as a James Bond fan ,it was a real treat to see BERNARD LEE AKA M play a man of dubious morals
Now this is more of a dramaperiod piece then an out and out adventure ,but we still meet some fun characters ,and there are some great set pieces ,the best being David and Alan fighting off Hoseasons crew from within a cabin ,that was badass
I have two sets of questions ,lets start with 3 from @ariel-seagull-wings
1-Is the Pirates of the Caribbean ride influenced by the production of this movie?
Honestly no ,I see no connection between the two other then seafaring adventure. The villains arent even pirates, they are just normal corrupt sailors
2-Is Peter O'Tooles role already revealing of his capabilities as an actor?
Oh hell yeah. This is O'Tooles film debut and I was worried hed be just a background character, but he has a whole damn scene where he struts his stuff and he has just such a screen presence .Apparently he was suggested by Peter Finch and they play off each other beautifully
3-Should Disney make more dark movies like this?
First off I wouldnt call it dark ,but mature and honestly I would love them to do more films like this . Like it is rare I have seen a movie where the hero kills a man ,,,,,And has a moment to just fall apart ,like the gravity of the moment isnt lost ,and when DAvid breaks down and Alan gives him a moment is probabbly my favorite scene.I want more films like this
And now 3 questions from @the-blue-fairie
1-Much of the dialogue is lifted verbatim from the book. Is this evident on a first viewing and does it give a different quality compared to other Disney films?
I couldnt tell it was book dialogue but the film has a diffrent vibe then most Disney films and the dialogue is part of that
2- I've always felt that this film has more of a focus on historical time and place than a usual Disney swashbuckler-type movie. What do you think of that? Do you think this makes the film feel dryer in places or does it add color?
Adds color .This film, while it does have humor (Mostly from Uncle Ebeneezer) doesnt FEEL Disney ,and I kind of like that ,it feels like a solid period piece .I honestly really love this movie
And spoilers
3-"And the question closest to my heart, what are your thoughts on Ransom, the cabin boy? "-"Specifically, what are your thoughts on his interactions with Mr. Shuan and their result, as well as the matter-of-fact way it shows him carrying a knife in hopes of one day possibly killing his abuser? Did you expect the child in a Disney film to be unceremoniously murdered by a drunkard?
Sooooooooo I thought Ransome was gonna be the kid sidekick,or hed be the one to kill Mr Shaun.....I DIDNT EXPECT THE KID TO GET MURDERED IN THE NEXT SCENE .When his death screams are heard ,I screamed "JESUS " and my jaw hit the floor when we saw the body .To answer your question,I did not see it coming.I liked Ransome in his brief moments on screen, and frankly it shows how awful are villains are ,with Shuan just drunknly and casually murdering a child ,and Captain Hoseason is ready to just cover it up to save his own skin
Overall this is a great underrated movie that I highly reccomend
@goodanswerfoxmonster @themousefromfantasyland @filmcityworld1 @amalthea9 @angelixgutz @princesssarisa @marquisedemasque

I was on vacation this winter enjoying a drink in my Elvis tumbler (handmade by my step-mother) when a fellow vacationer struck up a conversation about Elvis. We spoke many times thru the vacation about Elvis. They are a fan of early Elvis - not Vegas Elvis. (I'm a fan of all of the eras - it is all so fascinating to me. I fell into the rabbit hole a few years ago. My mother was a big fan.). They seem to have a limited view of Elvis. I'm sending them audios, videos, images to further their appreciation. We started at the early years. I thought, I know just the right blog to get some of his great 70's performances. So here is my question/request. Please link me 3-5 of your favourite 70s performances to share with my new friend.
Sending you best wishes. Take care.
W
Hello, and very nice to hear from you. I will give this some thought, and get back to you before the end of the weekend. Best wishes, George.
So, here we go (In no particular order):
Promised Land, live in Las Vegas, March 22nd, 1975. There's also a great version of If You Love Me Let Me Know from this show, with the benefit of the full Hilton orchestra including string section.
youtube
T-R-O-U-B-L-E from Jacksonville, Florida, April 25th, 1975. By this point there was rarely, if ever, any structured rehearsal, and Elvis never really bothered to learn the words, so they had to wing it with new material on stage.
youtube
The New Year's Eve performance 1976-77 in Pittsburgh was widely considered a great show, and was captured in an audience recording. Here Elvis sings Are You Lonesome Tonight directly to Charlie Hodge, who was standing right next to him holding the mic. The full show can be found here, but Rags to Riches about blows the roof off.
youtube
Elvis and John Wilkinson with Early Morning Rain, which formed part of the band introductions and solos segment. Elvis was not in great form for this show in Omaha, one of two filmed for the TV special, Elvis in Concert, and there were sound problems with a malfunctioning mic. Things improved over the next few nights.
youtube
Elvis worked for another week after the Omaha show, and his final performance was at Market Square Arena, Indianapolis. This final show was captured by an audience recording, and it was seen as one of his better performances of his later career. There was a great (unrehearsed) version of Bridge Over Troubled Water.
youtube
From Montgomery, Alabama, Feb 16th, 1977, Elvis revs up his piano player, Tony Brown, for making a little mistake - then goes to the piano himself for an impromptu gospel song, Where No One Stands Alone.
youtube
Hope this gives you something to work with, and thanks again for the question

Day 1: Afternoon.
Rolls: 1d4 - 2. Location: 5 - Church. Neighbor: 1 - Human with great age and wisdom.
After trying to figure out the old washer and dryer, i decided to take a trip to Worlds End. The small town (if you could even call it that) was maybe 20, 30 minutes away by car. I still had to get used to the partly unpaved road leading down into the valley. I missed my Tesla. Also i decided against filming my little trip - i felt i had to experience it for myself this time.
The main street was lined with old red brick buildings, some of them containing shops, but most of them boarded up. There's a big supermarket on the state road, and everyone goes there for their shopping nowadays. I had no trouble finding a parking spot, and just started wandering around aimelessly, taking in the town, remembering the time i spent here when visiting grandma as a kid. I made sure to greet every person i met on my walk, which was not many. They all looked at me suspiciously, and only some of them returned the greeting or smiled at me. It would take some time to win them over, it seemed.
Lost in thoughts i found myself in front of the local church - just as you would imagine it looking out here. Saint Mark, represented by winged lion on the sign. An old wooden building with a small belltower, the white exterior slightly peeling. Surrounded by a white picket fence, with a small path leading into the woods where i knew the graveyard to be. Standing on the sidewalk, looking at the church, i did not notice the old man approaching me at first, until he spoke.
"You don't happen to be Rosie, would you Miss?"
I turned towards him, somewhat startled. He looked ancient, his wrinkled face covered in short white beard stubbles. His surprisingly long white hair was carefully styled. He wore a denim overall under a thick leather jacket which seemed to be as old as he was.
"Why, yes i am. How... I think we've met before?"
He smiled, revealing a mostly toothless mouth. "Well, it's been a minute Miss. Doris talked about you all the time, so it feels like i've known you your whole life." Leaning heavily on a cane in his left, he extended his right hand. I shook it, surprised by the hard grip. "The name's John McBride."
"Nice to meet you again, Mr. McBride." I smiled. Something stirred again in the back of my mind - i had met him before. When or why, i just couldn't quite grasp.
"Just John for you, Rosie."
I nodded, unsure what to make of this encounter. "I just arrived yesterday at the old cabin. I kind of moved in, nobody uses it nowadays, and i - well, i need a change in my life."
He looked at me intently, while i just rambled on to get over the awkwardness. After a minute or two, he interrupted me - not rudely, in more of a rescuing way.
"That's nice Rosie. This old town needs a bit of fresh blood, so to speak. Will i see you on Sunday then? To our weekly gathering?"
"Weekly gathering?"
"In a community as small and spread out as this, it is important to stay connected to your neighbors, kid. We meet up each Sunday evening." His eyes were a bright blue, staring at me. This whole interaction somehow felt like a test - and i was not sure if i passed or not. This old, frail man made me nervous. Not in a serial killer kind of way, but purely based on the fact that he claimed to know about me.
"Well, that sounds nice", i said, still a bit overwhelmed by the whole situation. A strange, yet familiar man, this old town with memories spanning a lifetime, the new beginning i had chosen more or less voluntarily. "Where can i learn more about it? The newspaper?"
He scoffed at me, pulling out a smartphone. It looked weird in his old, calloused hands. "Just use the towns Instagram page like we all do. While you're at it, make sure to follow me. I love to share my family recipes online."
After exchanging contact infos - he insisted on giving me his phone number as well "in case of emergencies" - i made my way back to my car. John got into an old blue pickup which was parked right next to the church, and waved at me driving off. Who was that guy? What the fuck?
Neighbor: John McBride. Old and wise. Friend of Doris. Positive interactions: 1/3.

River Phoenix Nothing beats a haunted moonlit night on All Hallows Eve... And on this fatal night, at this witching time, the starless sky laments black and unmoving. Kim Elizabeth If human beings had genuine courage, they'd wear their costumes every day of the year, not just on Halloween. Douglas Coupland Halloween isn't the only time for ghosts and ghost stories. Michael Dirda My house is basically like Halloween, 365 days a year, with my son. Alex Kurtzman Every Halloween for six years, I was a Ninja Turtle, and Mikey was my favorite. The turtles really made me who I am today. They got me into martial arts, meditation, surfing, skateboarding; big time influence on who I am today. Greg Cipes Halloween is bigger than Christmas in America. I've experienced it in New York, Los Angeles and Washington D.C., and if you're in the right neighbourhood, every house is decorated with spooky ghosts, spider webs, and jack-o-lanterns. Rhys Darby Halloween is one of my favorite days of the year. I have a strict rule: I don't work on Halloween and I won't travel on Halloween. Not for any reason. Simon Sinek

Susan Orlean South Africa is the only place in the Southern hemisphere where Halloween is really catching on. They have a lot of sporting events that have made it more popular there. They have motocross and rave celebrations, and they're embracing it as a youth culture thing. Lisa Morton I start lighting pine-scented candles the day after Halloween. Mary Page Keller Yes, obviously, I would love to play a vampire! I mean, I went to Hot Topic and got the fake vampire teeth for Halloween in middle school. Obviously, I want fangs sometime! Grace Phipps All my life, I have been a celebrant of Halloween. For me, it is the most important day of the year, the turning point in the old pagan calendar. John Burnside Some people are born for Halloween, and some are just counting the days until Christmas. Stephen Graham Jones Where there is no imagination there is no horror. Arthur Conan Doyle If ever there was a holiday that deserves to be commercialized, it's Halloween. We haven't taken it away from kids. We've just expanded it so that the kid in adults can enjoy it, too. Cassandra Peterson I love the spirit of Halloween and the energy that comes with it. Katharine McPhee I don't know that there are real ghosts and goblins, but there are always more trick-or-treaters than neighborhood kids. Robert Brault Shadows of a thousand years rise again unseen, Voices whisper in the trees, "Tonight is Halloween!" Dexter Kozen People value Halloween, like Valentine's Day, because they can tell themselves that it's not merely secularized but actually secular, which is to say, not Christian, Jewish, Hindu or Muslim. Amity Shlaes I was kind of a dark kid. I loved Halloween, and I loved vampires and the black and white old monster movies. Joe Manganiello Seems like Americans just want it to be Halloween all year. The holiday just keeps getting more popular. Amity Shlaes This Halloween the most popular mask is the Arnold Schwarzenegger mask. And the best part? With a mouth full of candy you will sound just like him. Conan O'Brien On Halloween, kids get to assume, for one night the outward forms of their innermost dread, and they're also allowed to take candy from strangers - the scariest thing of all. Kate Christensen I'm cool with people dressing up as Eleven for Halloween. I definitely want to open my door and give them candy. Millie Bobby Brown There are nights when the wolves are silent and only the moon howls. George Carlin I grew up in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio, in the early '90s, and hospitals and doctor's offices offered to x-ray candy. I was 7 or 8. The day after Halloween, my brother and I were sorting all of our candy, and my mom asked if she could have a piece of my gum. She put the gum in her mouth, bit down, and there was a shard of metal in it! Cory Michael Smith There is a child in every one of us who is still a trick-or-treater looking for a brightly-lit front porch. Robert Brault The first Halloween was very well made. The second one was also well made, though I didn't like it as well as the first one. The third one had nothing to do with the series at all and perhaps shouldn't have been made at all. Donald Pleasence There is something haunting in the light of the moon; it has all the dispassionateness of a disembodied soul, and something of its inconceivable mystery. John Wick Chapter 4
Finally got around to watching John Wick Chapter 4. Split it into 3 parts so I could pay 100% attention to all of it. (And still cats and my neighbour kept interrupting but whatever.) First thoughts (many spoilers):
Charon :( Lance Reddick :( :( :(
I bet Akira has a yakuza back tattoo 😳
The classic "who would win" argument: Samurai katana vs Chinese jian sword fight (it was so fucking good)
Cycles of revenge~ Gotta love it
I think some of the scenes of Osaka outside the hotel are intentional references to Ghost in the Shell (1995) but I could be reading too much into it. Neo-noir and cyberpunk are already adjacent genres
I love that the theme of this film is the friends John has made along the way. He keeps trusting people to be on his side, he keeps relying on other people. And, generally, they come through for him.
We had the sumo guy fight in one of the earlier films, and the sumo fighters in this film, just slamming people down demonstrating why they are athletes not just funny fat men.
Killa (German poker gangster) is unfortunately a guy in a fat suit, but seeing him pull a roundhouse kick on John Wick is still really something
The guy who plays "I am Klaus" is apparently a famous actual bouncer in Berlin and professional photographer
Loving John Wick and Caine was totally expected. But Tracker really became my stealth fave. Played by a guy from Toronto (technically, Scarborough...), Shamier Anderson. Apparently he actually knows Wing Chun?? I loved Tracker's notebook and pragmatic approach to assassinating John. And of course his puppy. His character has to be American though, unfortunately, because Canadians do not have 401Ks.
(If Akira had more scenes she would be my fave too tho don't worry)
I love the craft and attention to detail in this film. Anybody who compares this to hollow Marvel crap is being intentionally obtuse.
I will have to rewatch before I say whether I think it's better than the other three. It definitely has a different tone - John's tragedy has become almost an absurdity. Both the audience and the characters in the film are asking "How long can he keep doing this for?". He has to win, the Marquis has to die, narratively that's inevitable. Everyone in-universe thinks it's inevitable too. But we all are still going to watch him struggle to make it happen. It's the struggle that gives life meaning after all.

Today, Live! It’s been a long time coming. 5 + years it’s taken to get a “yes” from Emmy Winner, Tim Busfield. He's so fun! Yay. And away we go!
Tim shares 30 Something, Sports Night, The West Wing, and Studio 60 on The Sunset Strip with a guy named Snuffy, and has a huge host of films, TV shows, and more stage performances that I've seen for a screen actor, maybe ever.
From starring on Broadway in Sorkin's A few Good Men, co-starring with Kevin Costner in Field of Dreams, founding two stellar theatre companies, an abundance of service for kids in that regard, Quiz Show, Revenge of the Nerds, Trapper John, for all the seasons with our good friend, Gregory Harrison, Without a Trace, doing double- duty behind the camera, not only acting but directing of many of the above, exec producing Brooke Shields Lipstick Jungle, for one, directing the award-winning Guest Artist, written by and starring Jeff Daniels, serving in the Navy, and, perhaps most importantly, Tim's a lovingly devoted family man -in obviously mad love with his wife, Melissa Gilbert. What a great couple of givers they are, who've been gifted with each other.
I communicated with Tim a few years ago on the Facebook when trying to finagle him into doing this show, and told him about my actress daughter, Samantha. He was so kind. Had it not been for the pandemic, who knows!
Tim's a deeply soulful man, that's clear - and he's funny as... yeah, that. I can't wait for this!

so i finally watched Bumblebee(2018) with a bunch of friends and
holy fucking shit
its incredible. its a 10/10. it is so, SO much better than the shit-tier bayformers movies were. it has color and soul and emotion and actual plot and clear motivations for the characters. the decepticons arent some morally gray vague entity, theyre a clearly manipulative, tyrannical regime. the autobots are clearly a resistance force that lost the war and is going to earth to regroup. the movie immediately opens up with a sequence that is full to bursting with color and personality and it makes it very clear that the fights and the cybertronians arent going to be all gray and greebly and boring because their designs are obvious renditions of the generation 1 iterations. theyre the actual transformers! and oh my GOD i cant stop gushing about the actual transformations in the movie, like, look at this.
my friend indyjacob said this, which is a technical examination that that i couldnt put into words:
it's not like the fucking original michael bay ones where the transformations are weird nonsense. like, you can see the cockpit canopy flip down into the chest piece, or the wings invert and then raise up alongside the jets, and the front intakes rotating into the arms. the parts of the vehicle actually shift into place on the new body as if it were the old toys
and these multi transformations are cool too
the animations are slower yet more impactful, theyre much less blurry, and they look incredible. the fight choreography incorporates many more transformation sequences, especially in the final fight of the film, and they have more weight to them. the fights arent just them ripping each other apart and blasting each other with one hit kill weapons. they use the environment, they use creativity, they use martial arts, and as with the transformations, its not a messy blur of gray movement. you can actually see whats going on!
and then the characters. oh my god theyre great. our main character aside from bumblebee is, first of all, a young woman named charlie. already starting off on a great note. and she has personality! this is the story of a girl and a transformer and their unbreakable bond that i so badly wanted mikaela and bumblebee to have in the bayformers films.
bumblebee himself is also fantastic- i wont spoil anything but his arc is sooo satisfying. and the villains arent just like, mindless monsters. they arent caricatures, they have clear personalities and motivations, and their plans are satisfying yet dismaying to watch unfold. and then agent burns, played by john cena, is such a great character. hes not just an insect in a hivemind of soldiers, hes a person who eventually actually understands whats at stake and he ended up as one of my favorites. just look at him!
the boy! so much emotion there. youll understand if you watch and reach that point in the film.
in conclusion, Bumblebee is the live action reboot that transformers really needed. michael bay did have a message in his original movies, but transformers was the wrong medium for it, and this film is everything that they should have been. if you havent watched it yet because, like myself, you were scared off by bayformers, please give it a shot. its nothing like them. like i said at the top of this post, its a 10/10. it rekindled my love for transformers, and i am very excited to see where this new line of movies goes.
this is sath, an official stan of this movie, signing off.

I don't know how to explain this but TFATWS reads a lot like “yes Sam and Bucky are romantically involved but this is not a romance so we won't delve into their relationship”.
If you think about it, in Marvel movies, the romance is not at the center of the plot. Even in solo movies, there is usually just one kiss, never more. And it the Avengers, there are usually no kissed between the couples.
I'm trying to stay away my shipper googles but even then, some scenes don't make sense to me. I love watching movies and TV shows and one thing I like is that dialogues are not put there randomly, the script has a meaning, the words have a meaning, and the scenes they decide to keep have a meaning.
And for some of the Sambucky scenes in TFATWS, I’m struggling to find any other meaning than “Sam and Bucky had feelings for eachother at some point”.
You can argue that jokes about the 2 partners being more than just friends is a recurring joke in a lot of buddy cop movies, but in those movies, it is usually a joke, just for laughs. The only scenes that would fall into that category in the FATWS are the rolling in the flower field scene and the therapy lesson scene where Sam and Bucky get so close that there legs are intertwined.
All the other scenes are so emotionally heavy it's difficult to categorize them as only fanservice, or two guys being friends. I'm not saying they aren't any emotional scenes in buddy cop movies, but usually the emotional scenes don't go as deep as what we've seen in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
I tried to look at all their scenes together and split them into different categories, and I stilll end up with some scenes that point to a relationship that goes beyond friendship between Sam and Bucky:
Scenes that fall into the fanservice category and there just for laughs:
The bickering about wizards and sorcerers in episode 2
The rolling in the flower field scene and the beginning of the therapy scene.
Sam asking Bucky to do something when the Dora Milaje are attacking John Walker in episode 4
Scenes that can be seen as purely friendship:
In episode 2:
Bucky deciding to follow Sam because I quote "he doesn't trust Redwing". What is that even supposed to mean? ... He probably meant I don't trust Redwing to protect Sam like he would.
Bucky standing up from the stack where he was sitting on, to go sit next to Sam when they were on the flight back from their mission.
Sam waiting for Bucky in the police station, even though they try to act as if they're not friends
Sam agreeing to go see Zemo with little to no protest
In episode 3:
Sam making sure Bucky is alright and asking him if he's ok
Sam touching Bucky's metal arm when he’s pretending to be the Winter Soldier
In episode 4:
Bucky saying "I'm going with you" when Sam says Karli wants to meet with him alone.
In episode 5:
The shield practice scene when they have a heart-to-heart talk in episode 5 about what the shield meant for Bucky and Bucky finally apologizing for the way he treated Sam and explaining how as a White man he couldn't possibly know what it would mean for Sam to be Captain America
Sam asking if Bucky is ready for some tough love.
Scenes that make no sense if we see their relations as just friendship:
In episode 2:
The therapist said she heard a lot about Sam, she wants Sam to stay for the therapy for I don't know what reason, she makes them do a couple exercise, and says it explicitly.
Why would the therapist say she heard a lot about about Sam, that she want to do a couples exercise with them? Those scenes alone are alright, but when you take them together it's quite interesting.
The couples therapy trope has been used in a lot of Buddy cop movies or TV shows, but usually they don't delve into sensitive topics like they did in TFATWS, the scene was so emotional for a few seconds, I forgot it was a Marvel show.
In episode 3:
When Bucky tells Sam he helped Zemo escape, Sam was furious, and couldn't stop yelling at Bucky about how insane his plan was, and Sam was right. But the moment Bucky looks him in the eyes and basically says, "please do it for me", Sam agrees right away... Excuse me what??? How does this make sense?
If my friends ask me to work with an international criminal who just escaped from prison, I wouldn't just stop arguing with them just because they looked at me with puppy eyes. I would continue to yell at them until the end of the mission. Sam was like, “ok, ok, I'll do it for you”? I'm sorry but that is not friendship only, it's something else.
In Episode 5:
Can we talk about Bucky's reaction when Torres arrived in Episode 5?? The annoyed face when Torres walks in and Bucky walking away right after that, without even saying goodbye? Torres is the sweetest soul on earth, how can anybody hate him? Why would Bucky not like him??? This scene make no sense unless they're trying to tell us that Bucky is jealous or something.
Bucky asking a favor to Ayo, when he's not in good terms with the Wakandans. I'm sorry but do you realize how heavy this scene is? Ayo, just told Bucky that he should lay low for a while, and Bucky understands that, but his first thought is "I need to get a gift from Sam" first. Nope nope nope, you can't tell me this is just friendship. Ok, maybe it is, but I don't understand this filming choice. Plotwise, Sam could have asked for a suit or new wings himself. I'm sure Sam is in very good terms with T'Challa and the Wakandans... What does it mean that Bucky was the one to ask for it as a gift to Sam, when Bucky was in a already in a difficult situation with the Wakandans due to him freeing Zemo.
Bucky touching Sam's waist to ask him to move when he starts helping him with the boat repair. And Bucky coming from behind to do so, giving us a very short but intimate scene.
Their conversation about Bucky staying over for the night: Bucky saying he doesn't want to make things weird with Sam and his family by staying over, and Sam saying how the people in the town are so open-minded. Why would they have that conversation if Sam and Bucky are only friends? Sarah knows about Bucky and his past, she know that he and Sam are friends (sort of), why would a friend staying over make things weird between him and his family? Why would Sam need to say that the people in this town are open-minded?
The video montage of them building the boat the day after. Anyone knows why they would show us that if they were only friends, and with THAT music choice?
The extra long handshake at the end of their training scene, when they kept holding hands and looking into eachother’s eyes while talking together, and Bucky basically says he'll be there for Sam whenever he needs him.
I’m sorry but it doesn’t seem to me that they are being portrayed as just friends
Usually in buddy cop movies/ TV Shows, there are always joke but in the FATWS, some scenes are so emotional that I feel like I'm missing something. Bucky has this whole passive agressive behavior with Sam and yet he's unable to let Sam go on a mission on his own. One thing I really can't understand is that Bucky always seems know where to find Sam, as if he had been keeping tabs on him.
So yes, there's definitely chemistry between Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie, due to their friendship but it’s not only that. The writers and director have made the choice to keep some scenes and some dialogues ambiguous.
In some of the scenes we can see that there's more to Bucky and Sam's story than we know.
And they're not the first Marvel couple to have a similar treatment: Wanda and Vision's relationships was very subtle at the beginning, same for Natasha and Bruce, we rarely see them together explicitly but we knew they had a relationship.
It's the same for Sam and Bucky, some of the scenes only make sense if there has been a romantic relationship between Sam and Bucky at some point.
To me it's really like Sam and Bucky are set up as a couple or at least two people who have been romantically involved in the past, but the show won't expand on that because this is a superhero show, not a romance.
In an action movie, you would see some couples, or people who are obviously in a relationship or hints that there is something going on between them, but rarely would you see a kiss, that’s what I feel is happening here.
Last point: if Sam and Bucky had kissed in Episode 5 after their talk, it wouldn't have been out of nowhere and it wouldn't have changed anything to the plot. That's how I know my theory isn't that far-fetched.
I would love to hear your thoughts about some or all of these scenes (especially the Torres one, that one is driving me crazy) and see what you think about it?
If you see their relationship being portrayed as pure friendship, I would like to know why. And would also love to hear how you guys interpret their other scenes together and if you have some different point of views about the scenes in the show.

Character ask: Hero (Much Ado About Nothing)
Tagged by @ariel-seagull-wings
Favorite thing about them: Even though she's mostly a standard ingenue, I like that when she's alone with other women, she shows more wit and playfulness than she does when men are present. Also, while her lines are few compared to the other main characters', they're always nicely poetic.
Least favorite thing about them: That she's treated so badly and suffers so much, poor girl! The fact that her own father believes Claudio's accusations and curses her is almost worse than Claudio's publicly shaming her in the first place – misogyny is a brutal thing!
Three things I have in common with them:
*I'm female.
*I'm short and a brunette (if that's what Benedick means by "brown").
*I often don't talk much in public, but I'm livelier in private.
Three things I don't have in common with them:
*I've never been engaged to be married.
*I've never been wrongly accused.
*I've never had to go into hiding while other people faked my death.
Favorite line:
From her instruction to Margaret to bring Beatrice to overhear her staged conversation with Ursula:
"Say that thou overheardst us,
And bid her steal into the pleachèd bower
Where honeysuckles ripened by the sun
Forbid the sun to enter, like favorites,
Made proud by princes, that advance their pride
Against that power that bred it."
From the staged conversation itself:
"Why, you speak truth. I never yet saw man,
How wise, how noble, young, how rarely featured,
But she would spell him backward. If fair-faced,
She would swear the gentleman should be her sister;
If black, why, Nature, drawing of an antic,
Made a foul blot; if tall, a lance ill-headed;
If low, an agate very vilely cut;
If speaking, why, a vane blown with all winds;
If silent, why, a block moved with none.
So turns she every man the wrong side out,
And never gives to truth and virtue that
Which simpleness and merit purchaseth."
Her brief speech of self-defense after her public shaming:
"They know that do accuse me; I know none:
If I know more of any man alive
Than that which maiden modesty doth warrent,
Let all my sins lack mercy! O my father,
Prove you that any man with me conversed
At hours unmeet, or that I yesternight
Maintain'd the change of words with any creature,
Refuse me, hate me, torture me to death!"
When she unmasks herself to Claudio near the end:
"And when I lived, I was your other wife,
And when you loved, you were my other husband."
and
"One Hero died defiled, but I do live
And surely as I live, I am a maid."
brOTP: Beatrice.
OTP: I'd rather not say Claudio... I ship her with happiness, whether single or with a man who trusts and respects her.
nOTP: Her father or her uncle Antonio.
Random headcanon: Her mother, Innogen, is still alive and well. Even though she's a "ghost character" who only appears in the stage directions, and Shakespeare may have meant to cut her altogether but forgot to cut those stage directions as well as her speaking part, I'd rather think she is present than ignore her. There are too many other dead mothers in fiction!
Unpopular opinion: I don't really mind that she and Claudio get back together in the end. The play's genre makes it only natural, and Claudio was tricked into thinking he saw her in the very act of cheating. I understand why most modern retellings only have them reconcile as friends, though, and I do wish that Claudio did more to redeem himself for how he treated her. Even if she had been guilty, he should have followed St. Joseph's example from the Bible and quietly broken off their engagement.
Song I associate with them:
The lament for her supposed death, "Pardon, goddess of the night".
Here's an 18th century setting of it by Thomas Chilcot, and Patrick Doyle's setting from the 1993 film.
Favorite pictures of them:
This painting by Alfred Elmore from 1846, showing her lying in a faint after her public shaming:
This illustration by John William Wright, 1849:
Cherie Lunghie being comforted by Judi Dench's Beatrice, 1976:
Kate Beckinsale in the 1993 film:
This unknown actress:
Margaret Odette, Shakespeare in the Park, 2019:

DAredevil thoughts part 1
1.Ah stylized credits ,as was the fashion of superhero movie openings at that time
2.so they give Colin Farrel the "And" credit and I dunno ,I think he should be billed third instead of Michael Clark Duncan, simply cause I recall Farrell being in the movie more .Also "And Michael Clark Duncan as the Kingpin " sounds more badass then"And Colin Farrell as Bullseye "
3.I dunno how I feel about the film begining in media res and being an extended narrated flashback
4.BEst version of Daredevils radar sense I have seen ,I like the use of blue
5.So I am not a Daredevil expert ,and I know he was added during the Frank Millar run ,so he hasnt always been apart of Daredevils orgin....But it feels so weird Stick isnt in this movie being Matts mentor
6.Matt stopping Stan Lee from crossing the road is one of my favorite cameos Stan made
7.This is the most 2000'sy soundtrack ever .I kind of love that
8.So while some of the refrences to marvel artists and writers is cute (Kevin Smith plays a character namesd after Jack Kirby and many of the boxers Matts dad faced are named after John Romita,Frank Miller,Brian Michael Bendis, etc ).....naming a rapist after Joe Quesada feels mean and odd
9.It is so weird seeing Jon Favereau in a non MCU Marvel movie. Also weird seeing him playing another put upon sidekick to a superhero , here being pretty perfectly cast as Foggy Nelson ,while in the MCU he is Happy Hogan
10.This movie wants to be both Blade and Spider-Man and you cant be both
