Duck Comic Reading Club Week 8: Dangerous Disguise
Ok, I'm finally finishing up the week 8 reviews. Let's go right away into Dangerous Disguise, is my first Carl Barks reading and I sure that is going to be greaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!!!
Tumblr media
WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!?
Humans? Regular, everyday, no question about it, humans? What the hell man? This is not right, no, no, no. Also...
Tumblr media
Where in Dismal Downs are they? Crime Villa? Is this place safe for the babies?
Gosh… everything here seriously creep me out… anyway…
Imagine how mad Scrooge was at Donald and the babies that he actually sent them to another country. That crazy old bird is a pro hater.
After Donald mentioned the spies, HDL went crazy about it. They started seen spies in every corner, and drove Donald insane. In this situation, I have to be on Donald side, kids can be annoying.
I'm a grown man, and if that guy starts talking to me, I'd run to another city, but Donald thinks it's a good idea to help this stranger hiding under a pier.
Tumblr media
Turns out that Donald passed a secret message to Madame Triple-X, professional spy. Spy that buries the message in front of witnesses that later recover that said message.
Tumblr media
The kids show the message to Donald that takes the obvious choice, confront the spy.
Don, buddy, you're not PK here. Call the police.
Donald and the kids took the train directly to Chiliburgueria, just to realize that Madame Triple-X is in a plane to the same destination. Bad luck.
But the surprises are far from over.
Tumblr media
Another spy is ready to take down the Ducks. But, do not worry, Huey has a plan…
Tumblr media
He killed him.
Huey killed him.
Look at this. Look at it. That guy is dead, is deader than my dreams of Ducktales season 4.
Well, for reasons, Madame Triple-X is now in the Ducks' wagon. Donald tries to steal her purse, only to be discovered, and he and the boys are thrown out of the train. Luckily, they fell on a pond.
The kids complain, but Donald was one step ahead, because he now has Madame Triple-X's purse.
Tumblr media
They now can make some lunch.
Madame Triple-X is also thrown out of the train, and is once again, face to face with our heroes.
And she proceeds to...
Tumblr media
Oh, for duck sake!
Guys, the lunch thing was a joke! Don't eat the salami sandwich the evil spy offers to you!
And of course the sandwich put the Ducks to sleep. And of course Donald's neck fell directly on the tracks.
Thank God, the trainmen strike saves Donald.
Tumblr media
Lucky.
The Ducks steal the train and arrive to Chiliburgueria where they find Donaldo.
Tumblr media
So, Donaldo is a bullfighter, therefore, I hate him. I'm against that barbarism wrongly named culture.
But, the guy was taken down by his doppelganger, and treated by evil ten-years-old triplets. What a day.
Donald took Donaldo's place in order to capture Madame Triple-X, and I wonder…
Donaldo has the same voice impediment that Donald has? They look identical but, the voice… Donald voice is the most recognizable voice ever.
And back to the looks one second, how is that Donaldo looks exactly like Donald? I think Quackmore has a lot to explain.
After a bullfight where, thankfully, no bull was harm, Donald finally convinces Madame Triple-X that he's the spy. Only for Donaldo to break free and end the charade.
But then…
Tumblr media
Madame Triple-X was a secret secret service member all along! And she almost fail her mission, because those damn Ducks.
Donaldo then, jump through the window. No second thought about it.
The Ducks then came back to Crime Villa to enjoy their vacation.
What can I said about this one? It was weird, and fun, and crazy, and stupid, and I loved it.
More of this, please.

Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck Finale: The Richest Duck in the World "And As Usual, He Was!"
Tumblr media
Hello all you happy people and welcome to the finale of my life and times of scrooge mcduck retrospective! It's been a duck blur, from starting this years ago, to a years long hiatus to Kev paying for me to finish it, btu we're finally here. The final chapter of Don Rosa's masterpiece. Coming out the other side of this LIfe and Times is still one of my faviorite comics of all time and I'm glad to finish it. Kinda. There are a ton of bonus chapters Rosa did throughout the rest of his career, as well as an upcoming new chapter from another author entirely, all of which i'm up for covering at some point. There's a few I definitely want to get to in paticuarl: The three goldie stories (one pre life and times two with the label) that help flesh out here and Scrooge's past, the wonderful "Letter From Home" that gives ups Matilda's return and ties up that loose end, and my personal faviorite "Dream of a Lifetime", a one shot tale that goes through just about every chapter of life and times via Scrooge's dreams for one hell of an epilouge. None of these are necssary but they all feel like good companion pieces to the story and i'm glad Rosa did these interquels among others. I also have an itch to cover more duck material in general as while it has the cynical boost of having more viewers than normal for my content, it's also something I forgot HOW much I loved in the content lull after Ducktales end. And as a wise man once said.. there's always another rainbow. What it'll be i'm not sure yet, but you can expect at least one duck adventure next month.
For now though we're finishing the main story and it's while a lot of plans changed or shifted over this 12 issue saga, one thing was always in the cards: he wanted to end the story where Scrooge's story began all those years ago, with the finale taking place the day after the bulk Night on Bear Mountain. For those less familiar, and I wasn't when I started this though i've since covered the story, Night on Bear Mountain is the very FIRST Scrooge story, with Scrooge inviting his nephews for Christmas to scare them but being impressed by the end and thus inviting them for CHristmas Diner. This story shows what happens in between while also explaning the discrepency between the Scrooge we see in that story and who he'd be in the rest of his meaty cagalogue. In night on bear mountain Scrooge is diffrent, wearing a long robe, living in an isolated mansion (Keep in mind comics scrooge just lived at the bin), with him being more myth than actual person Donald just.. visits every day.
This story bridges that gap, explaning how Scrooge got his groove back, shows his first proper adventure with his nephews, and how he went from only a poor old man to the greatest adventuerer who ever lived once again. If this sounds familiar Ducktales 2017 did something similar, having Scrooge having mostly retired after loosing Della and years of searching for her, with the boys and webby reignting that spirit in much the same way, with Donald busy with a job offer that turned out to be an elaborate scheme. I still love they did that and it's a testiment ot how much impact this story had on the reboot: while a lot of Scrooge's past was changed, including his parents still being alive, the comic was, as I belivie I mentioned in the first entry, required reading for staff and stands as an important inspiration for one of the greatest cartoons ever made and quite possibly my faviorite.
So let's dive into the bin one last time as Scrooge rediscovers himself, Huey , Dewey and Louie discover a legend and Donald won't shut the fuck up.
We open with a Citizen Kane Homage as Scrooge whispers goldie while holding a snowglobe. He isn't dead, won't be till the 60's in rosa's eyes. For now though he's become a recluse as a newsreeel overs over his life and how his last public apperance was 17 years ago, when he threw out his family seemingly for good. We get some neat cameos as we see Grandma Duck again, this time in her glory days, who hasn't seen Scrooge since she sold him most of her land bar the farm.. and Gus when he corrects her that the old coot also came by to forclose on the chicken coop. Gus is Donald's cousin. He eats a lot, sleeps more and is somehow lazier than our boy. Which is possible. We also see Gladstone, the bastard and donald who shoves a hand in the camera.
At this point the Bin is just a legend, with no one really knowing if it's actually full of cash, something four familiar fowl talk about as they watch the newscast: Donald and his nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie. After 12 chapters we're to the present day of duckberg and where it all began as they prepare for that christmas dinner I mentioned. The boys wonder if it could be true while Donald dismisses it: no rich person could've EARNED IT and he assumes Scrooge inherited it.. somehow. Which baffles me a bit as while I'm sure Hortense, like 2017 Donald, tried not to bring Scrooge up, she wouldn't of.. not brought up her childhood in scotland or the rest of her family. They didn't throw her out. Granted Donald does have a talent for self delusion and we don't know how young the kids were when she died, so there's wiggle room it just annoys me a little
What Annoys mea lot is Donald who throughout this whole story constantly says everything about Scrooge is fake. That he probably bought it on crusies. It annoys be a bit less this readthrough as having become fed up with most present day billionares.. yeah most do. This just happens to be the one whose a bastard AND worked hard to earn it. But it's still a very one note gag: Donald is up his own ass and dosen't know what we know or has seen what we've seen and thinks his uncle's only a poor old man.
Tumblr media
It's not story breaking, but it is repetitive.
Thankfully we move on to the mansion proper as Scrooge's butler Jeeves, and no that's not me goofing up Duckworth was created for the show, ushers them in.. and as Scrooge slowly stirs.. we see him, in a truly awesome panel
Tumblr media
I love all the detail here: the bits of stubble, the tired eyes, how sunken he looks in genearl. This is a Scrooge who has given up: he's retired from work to rot in a mansion, having nothing left and is a shell of what he once was and will be again. I also give Rosa credit for using Scrooge's first apperance design still: he had the time for Scrooge to change.. but him not having done so is a symbol of just how deep in the depression hole he is: as someone whose been in them I relate to clearly not having taken care of yourself in some time, just sitting there letting time pass as you feel you have nothing left.
The boys being their usual charming hive minded selves are delighted to meet their great uncle. Though we get a really sad bit as he notes most family he has has.. disappeared. He dosen't know matilda is alive, and he certainly heard what happened to Hortense. The boys do genuinely welcome him in but he balks, figuring their all after inheretiance. Donald claps back that you spent it all on this place ya jackass.
Scrooge insscensed decides the time has come to do something he rarely does but is sacred to the rich: flashing his cash. Specicially he has his butler.. dress him. Okay Scrooge you need either boundries with your butler or a more equal relationship if you want to keep fucking him. Trust me i've hit on the help too. The help was a gorgon's head but I didn't make her dress me.. hades didn't give me that option because their sane.
He takes them to the Bin, which is decayed.. though Scrooge has been keeping the booby traps fresh and keeps the weeds simply because it's good security: if a place LOOKS abandoned and unloved, people will think that. And it mostly has been, Scrooge having retired isn't using it. Still he kept the most important part of it, the cash ocean itself, but our heroes pass the second most important part first
Tumblr media
This little tirade, while very in character.. is also very Rosa speaking his piece, as he hated stories (even barks own) where the Dime was implied to be magic. Whlie his old man yells at cloud behavior often has me shaking my head.. I agree on this one. The dime is better as a symbol that motivated scrooge than as a plot device and it cheapens the man's skill to say the Dime is responsible. I don't mind Magica trying to use it for a power source as THAT makes sense: it has a lot of emotional energy from being around scrooge as he got his fortune, the weight of having traveled the world with him for most of his life and being what started a great man on his path. I like the idea that kind of object with that kind of emotoinal baggage has power, kinda like what adventure time did with Hambo and PB's Shirt she got from marcy. It's magical yes but it fits the world better and makes it clear the dime is impressive because of SCROOGE not the other way around. Somehow Lorcana didn't get the memo
Tumblr media
The description and image are perfect, as is the fact it's SHOCKINGLY powerful I just don't get why Number One Dime wasn't considered.
One he unveils the bin though it DOES shock his nephew and even DONALD can't say anything for a change
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do like that explination.. it dosen't scan with every Scrooge story as there are countless that say his bin really is the McDuck version of one piece, from the aformentioned Christmas for Shacktown to the very first Scrooge lead story "Only a Poor Old Man". I'm not against this: Rosa had a tendency to pick and choose which parts of Bark's stories to make canon to his stories, wanting a more cohesive universe and while clearly respecting the man to a sometimes stifling degree, recognized not everything from stories not really built to have a continuity was going to stick together. As reverent as he is to barks, to an annoying degree at times like his feeling put out at having to include Fethry despite being an entirely valid character with loads of potetial simply because one man didn't create him (Not saying barks isn't fucking amazing, he is, but it's a petty reason not to use good characters).. I can respect Rosa for knowing what he wanted in his own canon and what to keep as well as having said multiple times his stories dont' stack up to his idols. I disagree on that statment as while Barks IS better in some ways, for all I gripe about the guy sometimes... Rosa is a truly talented writer, one of the best duck writers there ever was and while Time's made me see the cracks in the guy.. ti dosen't make him any less special or any less vital to duck canon. Ther'es a reason most writers either honor his stories or consider them canon alongside barkses. The man has a degree of talent, care and love that's hard to come by and while I may disagree with some of his choices at times... I can't help but love the guy still.
So anyway that suspcious santa might have set you off.. turns out the santas near the bin were beagle boys, scoping out a hesit and lead by Scrooge's old enemy blackheart, whose descendants indeed got to fucking as he hoped.
As is duck story standard they easily capture our heroes despite scrooge being way more badass than all of them combined... Donald too honestly... the boys also. Honestly a paper bag could probably beat the beagle boys and they somehow win when the plot says so, though this time at least theirs a valid excuse; Donald and the boys are new at adventuering, having gone on a few solo adventures pre scrooge while Scrooge has given up on the world and thus surrenders to being thrown.. though he is pissed they once again bring up the lucky dime thing. So before he can snap out of it let's talk about this dperession and self loathing: honestly while he'd never say it, even Ducktales 2017 scrooge both hides what happened with Della from the kids and refuses to apologize to Donald for a decade despite being almost entirely in the wrong, it's clear loosing his sisters did hurt him: he had his money but nothing else and with nothing to really fight for and his lifelong goal achieved he just.. gave up. It dosen't feel like scrooge ... but that's the point: just as his horrible actions in africa weren't really him, not striving, not searching not trying to build his empire simply because he's seemingly won.. isn't him. Without anyone to share it with... his bin is just a pile of coins, memetos of better days.
So the thing that busts him out of his stupor... are his nephews. The boys search furiously for some way out, unlike Donald and Scrooge not ready to give up and find his old mining gear... while Donald.. well Donald inspires him in his own way
Tumblr media
I love this and it's something I really hadn't thought about before but think of now, especially since again Woo-Hoo! takes some steps from this, having Louie take Donald's place as the doubting asshole, and have the boys as a whole, like Donald question if Scrooge really was this big or is just some old man, leading him to ragefully prove them wrong.. granted Scrooge's attempts in Woo-Hoo are more laughable as he plans to go diving to prove children wrong, something Beakley lampshades, but he still gets the step of showing them what he cna do by dealing with everything they unleash in his garage, similar to how here the combined menaces of Donald's jerkassery and the Beagle Boys scheme finally awakens the beast. I also love the subtle note of Scrooge taking off his coat, revealing his usual coat underneath. It's something I again hadn' tnoticed before this re-read, but ti's a very ncie touch... Scrooge the doddering old man given up on everything is gone. Scrooge McDuck, Last of the Clan McDuck, Master of the Missippi, Buckaroo of the Badlands, Raider of the Copper Hill, Laird of Castle McDuck, Terror of the Transyval, Dreamtime Duck of Never Never, King of The Klondike, Billionare of Dismal Downs, Invader of Fort Duckburg, Empire Builder from Callisota... THE Richest Duck in the world is back.
And since he's back he decides to go after the beagles, having the boys haul his trunk. I also really like this joke.
Tumblr media
Look donald is my boy, and even in a story where he's not on his a game.. he's still Donald. He's bound to have at least one good moment or two.
The two notice scrooge a coming and take off.. but they left an other Sleigh which Scrooge quickly takes, and begins using a cavlcade of his skills. We've seen his mining, now we see his ablility to tame any animal. It's not as impressive as a lion but he dosen't have time to get to the zoo so a horse'll do.
We also get ANOTHER choice gag. While not all of rosa's comedy lands for me.. the guy really nails it a lot of the time and it's a part of his writing talent that dosen't get praised enough.
Tumblr media
Honestly this chapter is easily the funniest next to the invader of fort duckberg, likely because with the dramatic part of Scrooge's life mostly worn down, we have more room for some comedy.
Blackheart has them step on it as he realizes he's no longer dealing with a hollowed out shell of a man but the guy whose beat him twice and is ready to abide by rule of three. We get some fun callbacks as scrooge uses his gold pan as a discus to knock out the driver of the beagle boys then takes out the rest, minus blackheart who grabs the dime for leverage, with his boomerang from his time in australia. This also leads to another fucking phenominal gag
Tumblr media
Scrooge then ties up the rest of the non blackheart beagles using his roping tricks, with the officers that poor woman called rounding the boys up. All that's left is blackheart who naturally, as our big bad for the chapter, final antagonist of the story and the foe Scrooge has fought the most on this journey, gets the best takedown of all
Tumblr media
Such an awesome moment: The same thing that finally brought Scrooge's dream to reality... is what helps cement his return to his truest self: he may be a mean old man.. but he's tougher than the toughies, sharper than the sharpies, smarter than the smarties and he made his money square.
That said the adrenline does wear off slightly.. until...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had to share the scene in full.. because it's so damn good. After a whole journey, after seeing Scrooge at his lowest.. we see his core. Something that speaks against ageism: your body may age, but your never too old to start over, to have a second chance.. to chase another rainbow. The quality of your lives are what you make of them also really gets me.
IT's also a nice return to form as the bin being public.. dosen't bother them. Let them come: he's fought off worse and he'll fight them again. I also love him kicking donald's butt. He's just enough of a jerk in this story to well deserve it.
So Scrooge is now fully back: he decides to reopen the office, sell the mansion and get back to work.. and take the boys with them. While he dosen't say it being the stubborn old bastard we know and love... he needs these boys. Adventure is nothing if you don't have anyone to share it with.. .and once again he has someone to share it with. Once again he has family.
So he celebrates with a swim, with the boys astounded at his ability btu Donald unable to understand his uncle: all he seems to have is cold metal... but he could be wrong...
Tumblr media
This ending gets me... a reminder it's both never too late (Something I need at only 32, which in tumblr years is 90), and that a life well lived is one not lived alone, that the things that make us who we are good and bad.. are the greatest adventure of all.
The Richest Duck in the World is a well done capper, feeling like a lost modern scrooge adventure, that missing piece in the story that Rosa happily filled in for us. Donald again can be a bit much, even in the stories final page he still hasn't quite got the hint, it's not one of his better stories.. but it dosen't take away from this as an ending.. and a beginning. Of a man who lost everything that mattered finding it again. Of an epic story of one man's life, what made him who he was, and what he gained, lost and ultimately found again.
Life and Times.. is one of the best comics of all time, the best duck comics story ever, and only not currently the best duck story PERIOD because ducktales 2017 is so freaking good. And even then while that series beats it over all as an individual story this 12 part epic still trumps it's worthy successor. It's a labor of love that's massive in scope, character work and gorgeous art work. It's a true masterpice that needs to be read again and again and one i was very happy to cover. I found stuff I disliked sure, a chapter or two had pacing issues, some things didn't land.. but ti's hard to deny what a fucking triumph this book is. Only one other comic I can think of comes this close to distilling a characters essence down into 12 issues, and even then All Star Superman, while excellent didn't also have the task of trying to be in continuity. Life and Times is a masterpiece and it was a joy coverinmg it and the dream of a life time finishing this journey> Thank you all for reading.. and see you next rainbow.

Hiya! Dunno if you're the right person to ask, but since you seem to like Gyro Gearloose as much as I do, do you think that he should have a love interest? Now, I know most people ship him with Fenton and I know he used to have multiple girlfriends in comics (like Dana Data or Mathilda) but none of them were used afterwards (they were just one-shot characters I think) nor were really his "type" in my opinion. I remember some years ago, I had an oc that was supposed to be Gyro's "female counterpart" (like most of Duckverse/Mouseverse characters' love interests are) and a girlfriend but it kinda failed, I plan on redesigning her soon. However I've seem some people headcanoning him as asexual what I'm fine with, but I still think it would be a fun idea to imagine what his actual love interest would look like if it was canon
Hi! Yes, Gyro is one of my favorite characters. No, you've asked a good question since Gyro doesn't have a longtime love interest like Donald has Daisy. Usually many Gyro fans ship Gyro with male characters and not only Fenton but also Donald, Fethry, Gladstone, Mad Ducktor and others. Yes, I know that there are mostly disposable girls in comics, but in my opinion Gyro has a corresponding love of the opposite gender. And that he has his own love interests that have appeared more than once. In my opinion, they would be some of these characters:
Dickie Duck - Paperetta Ye Ye Dickie is a college girl in her early 20s and she is the granddaughter of Goldie O'Gilt from the Italian and Brazilian comics. Gyro is roughly between 25 and 30, but the two can really relate. Gyro is mostly kind to Dickie and seems quite shy. It was best shown in the comic strip Ducks on the Road where Gyro, Dickie and Daisy go on a tour of the USA playing music from the 1960s and 1970s and there Gyro and Dickie literally love each other. I think they would work well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Genialina Edy Son
Tumblr media
Most people don't know who she is, so I'll just say she's mostly a seamstress and fashion designer and the lead costume designer for Super Daisy (She-Venger or Paperinika). Just as Gyro serves Duck Avenger for gadgets and his costume, so does she for Paperinika. I think in an Italian comic (it's called Topolino) that she and Gyro love each other, so they really have similar personalities and I think they can relate together. And they are the same age if I'm not mistaken. She was created by Giorgio Cavazzano and that she used to be a student of Gyro around inventing gadgets and as I said before they can really be together.
Tumblr media
3. Unnamed female chicken from Sir Gyro de Gearloose episode from Ducktales 1987
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, her name is not known, but in my opinion she is also an excellent partner for Gyro. She only appeared once to get her toaster fixed but it ended up breaking so she was mad at Gyro whom she called Gyro "Gadget boy". Later when Gyro and Donald's nephews came back from medieval times she came to apologize and Gyro fixed her toaster and she gave him a bouquet of flowers as a sign of apology. Or was it the other way around, I can't remember exactly, but she's certainly a great partner for Gyro, but unfortunately she doesn't have a name, so she could be called anything.
4. Dr Sara Bellum
Tumblr media
Yes, that's her name, even before her namesake in the series The Powerpuff Girls and the same namesake in the Carmen Sandiego series. It's just that she's from Darkwing Duck and she's an extremely excellent scientist who is the head of S.H.U.S.H.'s research division and works for S.H.U.S.H. organization against F.O.W.L. She is also clumsy at times and her inventions go awry. Smart and stupid at the same time, but her desire is to win the Nobel Prize and she is really very pleasant. And somehow she reminds of scientists from the Far East who came to America. Of course she and Gyro never met or met except maybe in the Dangerous Currency comic (crossover Ducktales and Darkwing Duck comic), so I can't say for sure, but I definitely think she and Gyro would get along great and maybe Gyro would work for S .H.U.S.H. to have the opportunity to do so. Since I usually cross sometimes Darkwing Duck with Donald Duck as well as their characters so why not with Gyro with Dr. Sara Bellum. In my opinion, the same ideal pair, although more like my headcanon, but it depends how for whom.
5. Della Duck
It sounds twisted, but I can really make the two of them work. Granted, this was only in Ducktales 2017, where the two really didn't have a good relationship, considering Della was stuck on the moon for ten years and used Gyro's Black Licorice invention to survive and when she got back to Earth she was supposed to takes revenge but only one episode had Gyro almost attack Della (I think it's in the Timephoon episode but I'm not sure) so she fought back. Unfortunately, there was no interaction between the two of them in that series, but I could have made that couple work, even though I don't ship them. I'm wondering if Gyro is the father of Huey, Dewey and Louie from Ducktales 2017 since he took Della Duck's DNA and cloned them. Again this is purely theoretical and my hypothesis.
As for comic book Gyro and comic book Della, they get along very well, even Gyro managed to speak with Della Duck in a Dutch comic dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Donald Duck and his birthday. Although they didn't talk much, Huey, Dewey and Louie talked more with their mom, but certainly if Della Duck came back to Earth they could work together as a good couple, in my opinion.
Tumblr media
Source: https://imgur.com/a/family-ties-della-duck-debut-comic-3iGqH
That Gyro has other girlfriends, although I can't remember exactly what their names are and which one would be right for him. It's not a problem if Gyro is with an OC (original character) either, so it all depends on who you pair him with.
These are just my suggestions and my views as I see it. I hope I helped you and I apologize to others if this bothers them, this is just my opinion. I hope you are satisfied with my answers and if something is not clear to you, feel free to ask me. :D

April May and June Duck as teenagers - Quack Pack AU and Quack Pack Reboot - Quack Pack Week - Duckverse and Ducktales 2017
I should have done this a long time ago, but here I am regarding one of my favorite characters in the Duckverse and the characters I'm sure should be in the Quack Pack (either as a sequel or a reboot) are definitely Daisy's nieces, April , May and June Duck. They might look like the Chipettes from Alvin and the Chipmunks, but to be honest Daisy's nieces came before the Chipettes so Daisy's nieces have the upper hand. Anyway, I did two versions, one related to the Quack Pack AU and the other to the Quack Pack reboot (if it was a sequel to Ducktales 2017).
I know that in the Ducktales 2017 finale April, May and June are clones and that Webby is April, but since I don't like them being really Daisy's nieces, I added my own way of how they would look, especially in the Quack Pack reboot (see second drawing) and I got my inspiration from here: https://ducktalks.com/2018/07/04/april-may-and-june-duck/
And took inspiration from fanart by @avespecora.
April, May and June would really be Daisy's nieces and act like Donald's nephews. April would be like Huey, May would be like Dewey, and June would be part Louie. Plus I added their clothes so they don't look the same, and drew them in my own way. And let's face it, I have nothing against Webby, May and June, I just wish they hadn't collapsed the duck family tree like that, and both DT17 May and June were really good characters in the end. It would be interesting to see people with the same names get to know each other. For other characters from the Quack Pack reboot, see here: https://ducktoonsfanart.tumblr.com/post/742447670629744640/quack-pack-week-quack-pack-original-vs-quack
For the second drawing (more precisely the first) is my redraw of April, May and June as teenagers in the Quack Pack pose as well as Donald's nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck, with the fact that I think that pose would suit Daisy's nieces more than Donald's nephews. That version would be in my Quack Pack AU or the Quack Pack reboot if it was based on the Donald Duck comics. April, May and June would be like Donald's nephews, in terms of personalities, but they would definitely be ordinary girls, but not too "cool" or too feminine. And I drew in my own way, combining from the Dutch comics as well as from the series The Legend of The Three Caballeros, so here you can see the combined colors of the clothes as well as the hair they wear. May would be like Huey, June would be like Dewey, and April would be like Louie. And yes, they would cause a lot of trouble for their Aunt Daisy.
I hope you like these drawings and these ideas as well as these versions that I drew in my own style. Also this is my present for my friend, @nuvemzinhacorderosa, who loves Daisy's nieces very much. And this is also dedicated to @quackpackweek, even if I'm late. Sorry!
Feel free to like and reblog this, if you like this, just don't copy these same ideas and versions without mentioning me! Thank you!

Quick little rant y'all can ignore (I just love ranting too much)
Unpopular opinion : it is NOT to be a hipster or to be like "I'M NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS~" but very often either I will hate or just not be interested to watch at all the newest Tumblr fandom. I really feel like a Tumblrite but sometimes it feels like I just can't enjoy or be hyped by whatever the others are hyped with without doing it on purpose, as if we have nearly no common taste. I mean sure we all are unique and loving everything others we do is boring and impossible and would prove the person is shallow and can't be true, but just, absolutely nearly every big Tumblr fanfavorites annoys me
Superwholock ? Sherlock was nice but not THAT nice and the others never interested me. HH/HB ? Loathe the characters and story. Lackadaisy ? Don't understand the hype. Nimona ? Don't care. She-Ra ? Hated it. The Owl House ? Can't stand the posts on my dashboard nor the charadesigns. Centaurworld ? I know it is one of those things that look lame in the trailer but from what I got gets deeper, but I saw it being so much overhyped I can't. Green Eggs and Ham ? Ugh couldn't it have just been the old cartoon ? Arcane ? The more people said it was revolutionary the less I wanted to check it out. SU ? I used to love it but then it betrayed me with how badly written it endes up to be. SVSFOE ? Except one or 2 arcs it was not my type and the ending infuriated me. Ducktales ? Only season 1 was good to me. Miraculous Ladybug ? It broke my heart so fuck you show. Encanto ? "Narcissic families are ok and misunderstood if they are pretty". Wendell and Wild ? The demons did look interesting and I was curious for them but sadly the main character is insufferable and Idgaf she is sad she is still an asshole but gets away with it. Wednesday ? Tim Burton understood NOTHING avout the Addams Family and flanderized Wesnesday. HtTyD ? Should have been a standalone. LOK and to be fair ANYTHING coming after ATLA books comics and upcoming series included ? Burn em to the ground. Rise of the Guardians ? Seriously the animation is gorgeous but you have the blandest plot and characters ever but everybody calls it original and groundbreaking wtf ?! Arlo the gator boy/I Love Arlo ? Ew it looks ugly as fuck and I am VERY wary of titles that self congratulate (coincidently the Lou! franchise became very shitty when it was renamed into I Love Lou Very Much so it ticks me off) makes me wanna do the contrary and hate Arlo. Carmen San Diego ? Didn't care. The Cuphead Show ? Only season 1a is good 1b and 1c are shit but because "gae devil" everybody loves it holy shit the game is better. Frozen 2 ? Admit it, you liked it ONLY because you see Elsa like a lesbian and wanted to go "HAHA GET FUCKED" to Let It Go. AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON LIVE ACTION REMAKES
Some I even actually just didn't dislike it or care at first but it was seeing all the excessive posting and love for it despite 1) not wanting to watch (I love Arlo, never I wanted to kill a gator child so much force of seeing him on my dash) and/or 2) seeing legetimate problems and flaws and yet everybody ignoring it (Encanto, I hated the end but I did like the movie itself but seeing everybody justifying the end made me loathe it) it turns into hate. But some I hate from the start but seeing everybody love it anyway makes me wonder if at that rate the problem is me and I nitpick too much or of course like everyone I just have my own tastes and what pops up on my dash is not a reflect of universal taste ?
But I often call it a curse because everybody seems to have fun and it's as if I am doomed not to like and it looks like what the audience usually loves is just not my type, which sucks because I don't have many people to vent about it, not many people to gush about the obscure things I love because I am cursed to really invest myself in old fandoms I only find about now or stuff that don't even interest much people but fit my specific niche tastes, dashboards flooded with "OMG GUYS WATCH IT IT IS *SO* IMPORTANT AND THE BEST EVER" making me want not to whereas only 3 likes on posts of franchises I love that are barely known or loved... Probably why I have so many obscure fandoms actually. I am SURE it is subconsciously why I wanted to give a chance to Elemental and Avatar 2 since nobody talked about it in good or at all here !
I am not even sure and just like me those who love these franchises and are part of these fandoms must just have their own specific intersts peaked of course and if so it is absolutely alright ! But often I see they all have a pattern and I feel like, like when I ranted in my posg that defends Elemental, that they will love it and adore it just for ONE element not matter the rest hence why they only talk about that one element that irritates me when I am flooded in posts praising it but really it is just that element. "Omg so much representation" ok cool what is the plot "it is a trans allegory" yes but more precise ? "it is so GAY (affectionate) and girl power !!!" yes but ? The characters ? "Oh the characters are minorities some are LGBT half are POC and some even have a disability and they fight heteronormativity and traditional beauty standards" ok ok I GOT it but what are they like as people !?! "there is a canon gay ship in it I love them little blorbos" I DON'T GIVE A SHIT DAMMIT WHAT IS THE PLOT AND HOW ARE THE CHARACTERS "also it has a varied cast and is made by minorities and women !" Ok bye now I won't be able to help but see it being loved only because of those and not for its story and it will make me bitter about it as if there is nothing else but that to defend because it implies the scenario itself isn't that special for people to only talk about the Christmas present package rather than the content
It is very occasional I will actually get curious because it IS my type thanks to Tumblr : WOY, Pinky and the Brain Undertale, Good Omens, TDC : AOR. It needs to strike a sort of special chord in me to go "uh !?! A modern cartoon that feels like an old cartoon with funny designs and animation and funny characters !??! Uh !?! 2 gay mice that were probably not meant to be gay but they accidentally cracked many eggs in their portrayal and to think I was not interestee when I thought Brain was bidimensional and didn't give a shit about Pinky like I thought ??! Uh !?! Fun skeletons and a macho fish woman with cute pixel style !? Uh !?! Angel and demon are friends and were on Earth for years looking for a kid !?! Uh !?! In that prequel it shows one reformed Skeksis being actually good helping Gelfling and in a relationship with his Mystic ??!" And other Tumblr favorites I loved like idk FNAF, MLP FIM, Spiderverse, Puss in Boots 2, The Bad Guys and usually in general most popular big studios block buster animated movies I loved and others did were stuff I found by myself which Tumblr just coincidently did too so it doesn't count. Some I even discover them years later when the hype died down and nobody speaks about it anymore (reinforcing my idea that IS probably wrong that they don't even really love it but just go "OO SHINY" when something is new and pretty) that I can notice and love years later or at least late a franchise, like I don't wait on purpose I just really discover it at this moment or something peaking my interest only happened recently or peaked my attention now
Those aside most of the time I will really not be interested, a third of the time because "I am told to so I don't wanna" and it has to be myself or it will feel like a chore like when I am recommended stuff IRL I will actually postpone even if if I had not been recommended I would have started watching it earlier (I heard from a friend this looks like a symptom in a type of neurodivergence but I AM NOT SURE), a third of the time it really doesn't look or sound like my type of story at all and I keep wondering why there is nothing new for me and why everybody is so hyped by it, and a third I actually give a try and I end up straight up hating it or just finding it meh and overrated. I just need to find my own fandoms myself, even if they are obscure, that spark my interest, hoping they don't become bad in the end (SU, Ducktales, the Cuphead Show, Miraculous Ladybug etc. Sigh) which happened too many times already and makes me even more wary force of experience about what is popular since even when I myself find it becomes shit people still love it. And of course they totally HAVE the right to never would I harrass and police what people have to like and dislike, but it kind of feels lonely at times and sometimes it makes me think if something is wrong with me not to enjoy what seems to be enjoyed by everyone else and if it is my fault ; and thinking that even makes me anxious and guilty feeling like I am ranting for nothing and people will think I am an attention seeker making me even more gjulty and so on which becomes a vicious circle with my anxiety

uhm was gonna put this in the replies but then I hit the word limit cause I staretd rambling so I'll just ramble here :3
aww thank you, I love your art too + thanks for answering my ask!!!!! :333 and AGH I so so so agree I love those moments so much too :))). about the episode where Lena gets brought back, that episode made me cry,,,,, more than I want to admit!!!!!!!! :,))))) I just really like Lena and Webby ok!!!!!!
and AGH house of the lucky gander is SUCH A GOOD EPISODE one of my favs definitely :3. Gladstone and Donald are some of my favorite sillies ever and I lovelovelove seeing them interact. I like how (in the comics especially cause theres a lot more Gladstone + Donald focused plots there I think) they seem like they want each other dead but deep down they love each other :3. they're just both cringe losers (/pos) lol.
gonna throw some of my favorite Gladstone and Donald comic moments here hehe.......

OK UM DERAILED A LITTLE BIT THERE BACK ON TRACK TO FAVORITE SERIES MOMENTS
a moment I really liked from season one was the ending scene of the last crash of the sunchaser episode. ARGHHHH THAT WHOLE EPISODE KILLS ME AND I WILL NEVER SHUT UP ABOUT IT. EVER.
youtube
the scene I'm talking about starts around 3:30. I THINK ABOUT THIS SCENE A LOT :,3. I love so many things about it!!!! the music for one is amazing and makes me feel for Scrooge alone. I really gotta actually focus on the ducktales music sometime lol. cause Della's moon theme references the NES game moon theme, so maybe there are more references! I wanna find those!! :DD
AGH back on track again. adhd brain sorry lol. the rest of these thoughts will probably be a bit more jumbled, I'm not the greatest at putting stuff into words
another thing I like about this scene is how the narration directly contradicts what's happening on screen. Louie asks why Scrooge didn't make more ships to find Della, but we see that Scrooge sent a whole fleet to try and find his niece. Huey asks why Scrooge told Della to keep flying, but Scrooge looks ANYTHING but encouraging in that flashback. the dissonance between what the triplets think happened and what actually happened really highlights the misunderstanding between Scrooge and the triplets.
and usually I hate misunderstanding plotlines! but I don't really mind it here actually! because I can see and sympathize with both sides of the conflict. of course the triplets reacted like that, they're children. their mom disappeared. I don't blame them! this whole family has been goin through it man. :,) I'm just glad they made up they all deserve to be happy <3
BUT. NOW TO TALK ABOUT MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE THING IN THIS SCENE. you probably know this fact already but oh well lol.
Tumblr media
this is Scrooge's first appearance in the comics. I'm like 90% sure they're referencing this in the final part of that scene!! he has the exact same pose and chair!!!!! and not only is this super duper cool and shows how much thought + love is put into the reboot, but it ties into what's happening in the plot! Scrooge is at his worst at this point in the story. he's in the same place he was in before he started to reconnect with his family again. so it only makes sense they'd reference a past appearance of Scrooge in this scene! because he's reverting to his past ways! I just think that's really really really cool!!!!!!!! :D it is SUCH a good use of references!!!! and there's so much thought put into this scene!!!!! AGH this scene is so inspiring to me, I wanna get to this level in my storytelling abilities someday!!!!! :)))))
but um. sorry for replying to your response with an infodump picking apart a 1 minute long scene!!!!!! :,) probably overwhelming agh!!!!! I did NOT think I'd ramble this much!!!!!!
what are some of your favorite character moments in ducktales? :D I haven't watched most of season 3 yet (finished Lena learning to use her magic episode today) so if you answer something that's a spoiler for me I'll come back later n read it heheh B)
(oh also love your pfp!!! :D)
I'm so sorry I couldn't respond until now!! I'll try to answer as best as I can :). For season one I'd say in The House of the Lucky Gander! when Louie hokds a sort of speech to motivate Donald? I really like that moment since Donald is probably my favorite character and it's really sweet. For season two I'd say the episode where Webby meets Violet and together they bring Lena back, but really there are so many things I like about the show that I couldn't possibly list everything.
Hope this was an okay answer and again sorry for the delay!! Thanks for the ask and the compliment!
( Your art is really cool :D)

Hey I was wondering if I could request a Ducktales 2017 friendship headcanons with the triplets + Webby? Just how they’d be with a bestie in general (gn!reader pls)
I’m emotionally attached to these characters and just want to go on adventures with them and give them hugs when they get sad and pat all their heads aggressively but lovingly aggressive😭😭
A/n: decided to go do this one bc I'm getting back into DT after a big break, plus I'm stressed so I'm gonna do something cute. In this, you're the same age as the kiddos.
Tumblr media
:Friendship Headcannons with the Triplets + Webby!:
Huey is the mom of the group, especially when you come into the picture. along his junior woodchuck guide book he is now carrying a sling bag with all sorts of medical supplies, snacks, drinks etc. You didn't come from a family of adventurers and he wants to make sure you are safe, he also wants to make sure his brothers and webby are safe too but they are more accustomed to this life now.
If you need anything, whether it be medicine or logical reasons as to why you shouldn't go into a random cave, Huey is your guy.
Dewey, the comic of the triplets, he also happens to be the most emotionally intelligent and open of his brothers. His chaotic and fun loving nature begins to bring out a more fun loving side out of you the more you hang out with him. You, Dewey and webby are like three peas in a pod from that moment on!
Dewey may not be as smart or tactical as his brothers but he is always willing to lend a shoulder for you to cry on. He knows all sort’s of grief for being a duckling and he doesnt want anyone else to experience sadness alone. and he makes sure you know it!
Louie is the more mischievous and tactical triplet, always looking for new ways to start a business or earn money, even if it is a bit unethical. He was indifferent when you first joined the gang but eventually he began dragging you into all sorts of ideas and whims much to the dismay of Huey and Scrooge.
As much as he likes to pin the blame on others, especially his brothers, and avoid punishment, if he saw you getting in trouble because of something he did, he would reluctantly swallow his pride and take the bullet for you.
you owe him one, you owe him many times, you are in Louie debt.
Webby sweet Webby! as much as she loves to adventure she loves simple domestic hang out’s more, no matter what you identify as she is dragging you along to have a tea party, have a sleep over, hell she will even paint your nails. Ask Violet and Lena to tag along and she has the whole galaxy in her eyes! However no matter what adventure seems to find her and next thing you know you're having an arm wrestling match with a merman while you’re wearing a fluffy feather boa and plastic princess heels from he long forgotten tea party.
Webby is wise, in all sorts of ways, and like Dewey she is always willing to lend you a hand pull you from whatever pit you’re stuck in. She will never leave you behind, no matter how sad or mad she is.
no matter what, you are one of them now, their friend, and they will do anything to help you, because if there is one thing they learned is that friends are also family.

Looking back over the year 2021, I wrote over 350K words, all of which were fanfiction. Some of you know that I do write original stories and I have published a novel, a novella, a comic book, and a short story (maybe I'll share my author name in the future, but not right now), and it was surprising to me to look back and see that I have made no progress in my current WIP novel nor on any of my other original works.
My husband brought this up last night. He loves hearing me read my Ducktales, Darkwing Duck and Miraculous Ladybug fanfiction, but he told me that what he really misses reading my original stories. (He's, like, my biggest fan! ♥)
However, when I thought of my WIP novel titled "Dragon Treasure," I started shaking and I realized that I have been avoiding editing it (I think I'm on my third draft) because it either causes anxiety or it makes my anxiety worse. And thinking more on it, I just can't edit it any more because I had several Beta Readers edit it and all of their feedback was overwhelming me. I told my husband this, and that I wasn't sure if I could push forward and read all those comments.
To paraphrase my husband (because he's more polite than this), "Screw it what they think."
Yes, Beta Readers are amazing and great. They can help you fix problems with your story and help you grow. But there's a point where sometimes Beta Readers are more harmful than helpful, and I've finally realized that.
So, here's today's writing advice:
For the first two drafts, do not care what people think. Don't even let anyone read your story. If the story makes you happy, then enjoy the happiness.
When you are ready for Beta Readers, find one or two people to look at the story. I've met authors who try to get six or more Betas all at once, and if they can handle that much feedback, power to them. But if you're new to Beta Readers, less is more. The phrase, "Too many chefs in the kitchen" comes to mind.
Also, get Beta Readers who read in your genre. If you're writing Middle Grade Fantasy, don't find Betas that like to read horror or non-fiction. They may be able to help with line editing (basically, grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc) but their opinions on characterization, plot development, pacing, etc. will be askew because they're used to a different genre.
Finally, just because one person says something negative or criticizes something in your story, you don't have to agree with them. Consider their words carefully, but if the advice doesn't fit your vision of the story or if it feels wrong, ignore it. It's your story. You are the Master of the world and the characters. It is your vision. However, if several Betas are saying the same thing, it might be an indication of a weak point in your story. They may be wrong how to fix it, but it shows where a story needs work.
So, one of my goals this year is to have Dragon Treasure ready to submit to publishers and agents (I have only self-published up to this point, but I really would like to publish traditionally.) My husband suggested that I work on my story a few minutes a day to get over my anxiety, which I found to be sound advice. So here I go.

Hotel Transylvania/Disney Duckverse AU
Sorry but this idea has been festering in my head for MONTHS now, I just had to get it out and ask what the world thinks of it! Keep in mind that these are just the major/significant characters.
Dracula - Poe De Spell. At first I thought Count Duckula would be a good fit, but then I was like, "wait a minute, he's not Disney...". So I've settled on Magica De Spell's brother, Poe, for our king of the undead and owner of the hotel. I definitely think more needs to be done with Poe in his duck form, especially after the Ducktales reboot! At the moment, I'm a bit conflicted on who should be Martha. At first I didn't want it to be Magica, since I didn't want to go into Alabama territory. But then I considered that she could still be Poe's sister and Poe would raise and protect her niece, Minima, as a promise to her? But then he wouldn't have zinged. It's tricky. Also, I think that he should be able to turn into a raven as well as a bat, just like his regular counterpart!
Mavis - Minima De Spell. For those of you who don't know who Minima is, she is the niece of Magica De Spell in the comics, and I don't think she's made any appearances outside the comics. I think she'd be a great fit for Mavis because of her black hair and lovable personality. Of course, she'd have to be aged up. She doesn't look any older than 10 canonically, so she would have to look like she's in her late teens/early-mid 20s (in mortal years).
Johnny - probably Zico or Zeca Carioca. These guys are two other obscure Duckverse characters who have made few, if any, appearances outside the comics. In the "Ze Carioca" comic series, they are Jose's nephews. I planned for an older, young adult version of either Zico or Zeca (since, like the pre-Ducktales reboot incarnations of Donald's nephews, they lack distinctive personalities and thus I think they can be interchangeable for the time being) to play the role of Johnny just for the sake of the "green curly feathers" he would have in common with Jose, and also because of the fact that he would look like an outsider in a place that's full of mostly ducks, since he would be a parrot. He would also have to be aged up, like Minima, so that he would be in his 20s like Johnny is canonically.
Wayne - Donald Duck. Because he is the BEST DUCK DAD. Wayne is nowhere near as hotheaded as Donald is, but Donald definitely carries those "tired but loving dad" vibes that Wayne has.
Murray - Gene the Genie. I'm sorry, but he instantly came to mind when I thought of who should play Murray, since he's super zany and fun. I can totally picture him as a supernatural being with magical powers and the ability to manipulate sandstorms and all that. As a normal duck, he would have the dark brown feathers he has when he made that appearance in the Ducktales reboot.
Griffin - Jose Carioca. Gyro Gearloose would also work, since he is a scientist and wears glasses, and the original comics/Ducktales '87 version has red "hair". But I dunno, I just think that Griffin and Jose have a lot in common in terms of their charismatic, easy-going personas. He would still retain a lot of aspects of the original character - Jose, I mean - such as his "black magic" abilities and passion for music. Plus Jose with glasses would be adorbs.
Frank - Launchpad McQuack. Launchpad is a dead ringer for Frank since he gives off the same "dumbass with a heart of gold" energy, plus he's also kind of a himbo. He could also still be a pilot!
Eunice - Morgana Macawber. Ok, honestly, I just thought of the hair, the stature and body shape, and the fact that Launchpad was slightly enamored with her in Darkwing Duck for this one. I'm not sure if their personalities quite match, as Morgana is not nearly as loud and bold as Eunice, but hey, she CAN be a bit of a drama queen.
Wanda - Daisy Duck. Another no-brainer, since she's Donald's canon love interest and would be a fantastic parent alongside him. However, it's hard to think of her having all those litters of wolf/duck hybrids. But, it is what it is.
Ericka - Goldie O'Gilt. Ericka and Goldie are both super sophisticated, flirtatious action girls, so this was another dead ringer! Sorry, Scrooge, but Poe and Goldie are together in this universe.
Van Helsing - Ludwig Von Drake. I also thought that Flintheart Glomgold would work since he's an enemy of Donald's family, but Ludwig has much more of an inventive knack to him. Plus it would be cool to see him as a cyborg!
Vlad - Scrooge McDuck. Much like Vlad, Scrooge is kinda cranky and super old school, but he tends to warm up to new things once he realizes they're not that bad. Even though he's technically going to be the dad of his archnemesis's brother, I thought it would be a good fit.
Dennis - Dewey Duck. I thought of Dewey from the Ducktales reboot because he shares Dennisovich's crazy hair, plus they dress similarly and have similar mischievous tendencies. To be honest, I'm not completely sure if it's going to be Dewey, since his parents are going to be a duck and a parrot and they're going to have...a parruck? I might end up making an original character, but we'll see.
Winnie - Webby Vanderquack. I know, those who are in favor of the weird plot twist in the season finale of the Ducktales reboot will be weirded out by this choice and think I'm going into Alabama territory, but I see so much of the Ducktales reboot version of Webby in Winnie. They're both feminine and like pink, but are also super spunky and tomboyish and don't shy away from action! Also, she and Dewey/whoever is playing Dennis don't necessarily have to zing, they can be close friends. I don't buy shipping children characters, anyway.
.....and Blobby would just be himself, lol.
If this gets enough likes I might as well do fanart!

~A beach day full of feelings~
•Fandom: Ducktales, kinda? I based this fanfiction mostly off of the Italian comics, or "Lustige Taschenbücher" in Germany because the chemistry between the two is ströng there.
•Pairing: Donro, Donald x Gyro
•Warnings/Notes: Trans!Gyro is hinted, otherwise, this is just cute and wholesome. I originally wanted to upload it on valentines day, but I spent the day with my girlfriend and forgot about it, so here you have it now.
Everyone around them seemed to get the hints. Everyone around them seemed to understand what kind of relationship it was between them, better, than the two of them did. They were painfully oblivious, so much so, that they brushed the suspections of the people surrounding them off, even though they weren't unaware of them. But they both knew, or thought to know, that just because they were good friends, and because of that spend more time together, that that didn't mean something was going on between them.
Donald spent the days in the laboratory more often, these days. To upgrade his suit, that had been damaged pretty badly in the last incident with Magica. Even though he only understood half of was the scientist was explaining to him, it was still interesting to see old and new weapons, that were supposed to help him in the fight during crime.
On the inside, he knew that he liked spending the time in the laboratory. Being surrounded by someone. With the scientist in the room, he never had to fear that the silence took over. Silence, that he experienced everyday once the kids were out of the house. Since he never kept a job for more than three days, he didn't have any distraction. Without the three bringing life into the house, it was strangely empty, silent and big.
He had no real entertainment, besides reality TV, but that had changed ever since he spent the days in the laboratory. But he knew, that these days would be numbered pretty soon, after all, Gyro wouldn't have to fix his suit much longer, it was in pretty good condition again and the new weapons and inventions were all added, as much as that was possible.
But Donald didn't want these days to be numbered, which he, of course, couldn't tell Gyro. They were friends, and they did tend to spend some time on the weekend but... That would've been just weird, especially because Donald wasn't an apprentice, and probably wouldn't have been a very good one at that.
"There we go." the voice of the chicken interrupted his thoughts and the duck jumped "It's all fixed and ready for crime fighting again. I bet you were missed on the streets while having your forced break. But these days are over."
Donald was glad, that his suit was repaired again. He was glad, that he could do something against crime again. But on the other side, he was quietly crying. He decided to do something about it "The kids and I wanted to go to the beach on the weekend. And as a thankful gesture-" Since he obviously didn't have the money to pay the scientist "You could join us?"
The inventor seemed surprised. Not, that this was the first weekend he spend with the duck, but usually it was pretty spontaneous. Donald had never flat out asked like this, especially not in the middle of the week. "I.."
Gyro look around over his stuff, and his tables, and sighted "Think I could use a break"
When Donald returned home, the kids were already home too. He could tell by the mess in the hallway and the tossed aside schoolbags. He knew that homework hadn't been touched yet by either of them, but was too relaxed to care. He was in a good mood, but didn't really want to realise why. He just told himself it was because he could finally protect the city, and therefore the people that meant something to him, again. That was the reason, surely.
Donald decided to make pancakes for dinner, and when the kids came down the stairs because they had smelled them, they noticed that something was definitely up with their uncle "Why are you so relaxed?" "Yeah, why aren't you mad at us for not doing our homework yet?" "Did something exciting happen? Did you win the lottery? Are we rich?" "Are we rich?" "Are we?"
Donald chuckled. He wished. Well, technically, the family was rich, but he would've never gotten a single coin from his uncle, at least not until he eventually passed away. "We're not rich." He said as he sat down "I just..." He shrugged "Had a good day. Oh, and, we won't be going to the beach alone."
The three were, on their own, very well aware that their uncle had a crush. It wasn't something he could hide very well. The signs were too obvious. And they were also aware that this crush was centered towards a certain inventing chicken. But Donald, admitting that? Wouldn't happen. "Will Gyro be joining us?" Louie asked, his brothers chuckling in the background. God, it was so obvious "Yes. And that's nothing to make fun of! We're good friends and I'm being nice to him as a reward for all the good things he has done for us in the past! Including inventing stuff that wasn't only useful for me."
He looked at the three, and they knew what he was talking about. Their video game, that they could scan themselves into. Yeah, that was indeed a rad thing.
The rest of the evening wasn't so quiet, the three just couldn't stop teasing their uncle, no matter how often he kept denying a crush.
Gyro, on the other hand, wasn't much better. Not, that he wasn't well aware of the fact that he was a gay chicken.
No, he was just nervous of the thought of sharing a beach day with Donald, even though spending the weekends with the duck wasn't unusual. Sometimes, Donald would just come over for new inventions or to get something on his suit fixed, and afterwards they'd go to a café or watch a movie. Nothing unusual, just things that friends did.
And since they were friends, he was confused about his sudden nervousness. Why was a day at the beach something that suddenly scared him? After all these years, feathers had obviously grown over the scars on his chest, and he felt confident with being a male chicken.
In any way, the nervousness caused him to loose his concentration and he sighted in frustration. He wouldn't get anything done anymore, he had to take a break and clear his thoughts.
But eventually, the dreaded saturday did arrive, and there was nothing they both could do about it.
And even though they both were beyond nervous, they were also excited to spent the day with the person that meant something to them, even though they both weren't aware yet, what exactly that certain something was.
"Have we got everything?"
Donald asked, afraid that 313 would explode at any minute, judging by how full the poor car was. A single pool float was laying around, and he had almost tripped over it, and the sunscreen seemed to glue his feathers together, but he didn't care. Today was a good day, and he wouldn't let it get ruined by his reappearing bad luck.
"We think so!"
The triplets shouted back as they pressed themselves on the backseat of the car. After Donald had made sure they were strapped into their seats, like the good uncle he was, he started driving towards the beach.
"So, will you tell him today?"
Huey suddenly asked, the biggest grin plastered across his beak.
"Will I tell who what today?"
Donald asked, although he knew what they were talking about. And he could've sworn he got red under his cheek feathers.
"Will you tell Gyro today-"
Dewey continued "That he's the love of your life?"
Louie ended the sentence.
They didn't care if their uncle was in a gay relationship, as long as he was happy. And Gyro had visited them so often, that by now, they kinda viewed him as a uncle themselves. They just wanted them to finally realise their feelings, and be officially in a relationship. So that their uncle could be constantly as happy as he had been on Wednesday.
"I am not in love with him."
The duck stated, yet again. This wasn't the first time he had to defend himself in front of the kids. "We're very good friends, and that's all their is. Aren't you three glad that your uncle has found a friend?" All that he got in return from them was a simple chuckle. They knew.
After Donald had parked the car, they hopped out of it "Well, we wish you luck"
They said, before running, trying to find a good spot for themselves and the two love birds. They didn't want to be in the way of their confession.
And Donald, who was waiting at his car, did think about their words.
In love? Him? Well... He certainly knew how love felt, but... Yes, he liked to spent time with the chicken. Yes, he liked the chicken around him, and his company. And yes, they had slipped in each others arm once or twice during sleeping, but love? Didn't love cause butterflies in your stomach and a fast beating heart? He didn't feel anything of that. So it couldn't be love after all, right?
While Donald was lost in his thoughts, Gyro was already on the way to the beach, glowing with excitement.
He was, semi, aware of his feelings, or at least by now finally knew that they extended friendship. He wasn't sure yet in what way, but he was sure of one thing: That he was going to find out today. At least he wanted more weekends like this one, he told himself, and when he saw the bright red car on the horizon, he slowed down "I'm here."
He greeted Donald and almost automatically had to smile. This felt so normal, so... Domestic, as if they were a couple for years. Wait. Couple? Had he just really thought that? Blush started to arise at his cheeks, and the duck obviously noticed it, while the two made their way to the beach, the inventor either next to him, or behind him, when the way got slimmer.
"Are you alright? You look so red. Sure you haven't catched a sunburn already?" The worry in his voice came automatically, when you are a uncle of three very active nephews, you're basically worried 24/7. And, he also wanted his friend to be well. Everyone would've cared about their friend, right?
"N-No, I'm alright, the sunscreen is strong enough." Gyro quickly stuttered together, and the sailor just nodded. Eventually, after some silence, Gyro decided it would be best to switch the topic "And, did you try the new suit out yet? I hope everything works well?"
Donald nodded "Yeah, it's really good. I feel safer in this suit than I did before. The new inventions are practical, though some could need improvement." He chuckled.
When the triplets saw them walking over, they decided they had to do something. It was maybe the most cliché plan of their short life's so far, but something had to be done. These two couldn't continue walking around, being so oblivious towards one another.
So, Huey decided to take matters into his own hands and stretched his feet out. Normally, he wouldn't have wished his uncle to trip and fall over, but in this case, it was necessary for once
And, as the bad luck had already foreshadowed, their uncle did trip and fall, the scientist, that had walked behind him, falling on top of Donald. The three cheered, that was exactly what they had wanted. They didn't care how cliché this was, they knew it would work.
And sometimes, the most cliché ways were the best ways. As Donald rolled on his back in a dizzy attempt to orientate himself, his eyes catched the eyes of the scientist. In that moment, he realised it.
Maybe love wasn't all butterflies and a fast beating heart. Maybe love was all about finding comfort in someone. And being at home, with someone. And with Gyro, he certainly was at home.
"I-I love you."
The duck spurted out, his face immediately after becoming so red, that it could have been a rival to the worst sunburn. As Gyro heard the words, the chicken blushed again, before clearing his throat "I-I can only agree. The time we spent together is the most beautiful time of my entire day. I'm always looking forward to it, and when you're gone, I feel lonely. I feel like a part of me is missing. With you..."
"I feel comforted and at home. I feel like I'm in a safe space with someone, that understands me and doesn't judge me. And someone, that certainly knows my deepest secrets."
As the two joined each other in a loving kiss, the triplest cheered. They had known it all along.

Duck Comic Reading Club Week 19: Trick or Treat
Tumblr media
Well, well, well, it's time to read one of the two Carl Barks comics I had pending for the club.
A month later, but let's do the Halloween comic. First time reading it, but I've saw the animated short a couple times.
Talking about the short, I was looking around, and turns out the short came first, and the comic was the adaptation. Most times is the other way around.
Also, the other stuff I know Hazel is in; Mickey and Friends: Trick or Treats, a pretty cute short, I really like the songs. And of course, her part on Ducktales 2017's The Trickering. One of my favorites.
Ok, onto the comic.
Tumblr media
Hazel is flying around, having fun scaring everyone, until she found the babies, Huey, Dewey and Louie.
They're in their classic halloween costumes, that can also be seen for a second in Mickey and Friends (Webby included). Awesome detail to have them sing the short theme song.
Tumblr media
The boys go to the next house which is Donald's. Good old uncle Donald, I'm sure he has a bunch of candy to give to his beloved nephews.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WHAT THE HELL!?
For Duck's sake Donald. What the hell is wrong with you?
Hazel is just as indignated as I am, and went to face that degenerate. But, her fate was the same as the kids.
Tumblr media
Holy cow. This guy is a menace.
Hazel had enough. Is magic time. She and the boys join forces and crafted a potion, which they plan to use to give Donald a lesson.
Hazel used the potion to give life to inanimate objects, and create ghost. Her tricks work, Donald is freaked out.
Tumblr media
The duck is ready to give his candy, but Hazel called him a pushover and that brought back Donald demonic behavior.
Tumblr media
That's the face of the devil.
Hazel then disguise herself as a lady duck, and she almost succeeded. She's not the most bright, since she transformed back as soon as Donald gave her the candy. That gave the duck a chance to take it back.
Hazel decided to raise her game, and created an abomination. Her creature took the candy, but the devil, also know as Donald, had one more trick.
Tumblr media
Good lord. I know that's an ugly creature, created by magic, but man… Donald killed him. He blow him into oblivion.
Well, that's it. Donald asked for it. Hazel now casted her magic on the duck himself.
Tumblr media
The duck's legs torture him, making him hit the stove, bump into a cactus and kick himself. But Donald is such a hater that he pulled one last trick.
Tumblr media
Geez… He rather have nothing than shared. Dude, chill out man, what the hell is wrong with you?
But Hazel can play dirty too. She put Donald on an armor, that I'm not sure if she had it on her purse or is part of Donald's medieval collection.
Either way, using armor Donald as an ram, she destroy the door that hold the candy.
Tumblr media
Happy ending, the kids got their candy and Donald learnt his lesson. This is different from the short, where he remain a hater, if I recall correctly.
This was a fun story, that add some things like the monster, and makes Donald even meaner, even if he changes at the end.
But the best thing about this comic is Donald's evil laugh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's such a bastard. I love him.

For the duck reference sheets do you have any of Goldie I’d love to doodle some ducks but can’t draw without a reference to save my life :D
Sure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any more model sheets related to Goldie from the comics and Ducktales 1987, so I only have these pictures. Interestingly, the first picture shows the prototype Glittering Goldie (Goldie O'Gilt) drawn by Carl Barks before he wrote "Back to the Klondike". Also, the third image shows Goldie who was supposed to be in the Ducktales Remastered game, but unfortunately didn't appear. The second and fourth are sketches of Goldie drawn by Don Rosa. Also, there's this link on how to draw Goldie from the Carl Barks comic: https://www.drawingtutorials101.com/how-to-draw-glittering-goldie-from-ducktales-printable
I hope you're happy with this and I'm glad you asked. :D
Of course, this can be used by others as well, how to draw ducks in the right way.

Pokemon au!
Another Ducktales AU! Shocker!
Welcome to the inevitable crossover! There are three versions of this (trainers, human trainers, and reverse gejinka) but we'll just focus on the human trainers first because I'm not comfortable with showing my Ducktales drawings yet! This is just for fun and not definitive. I'm going to be doing this like a real adventure! We'll be following the triplets as they travel the region of... Americaw... Sure, we'll go with that for now.
I want this to be a story in many parts. I also want all their adventures from the cannon to be here as well, except it's just the kids facing them most times. Like let's say all the battles are monsters and baddies they've actually fought in cannon. That would be fun!
Oh, let's bring characters into the mix. Let's say that Webby is the boys' rival and best friend. Violet is also their rival but on a slightly lesser scale(mostly to Huey). Boyd also becomes a rival of sort later on(mostly for Louie). So that only leaves Dewey, and to be honest, I'm not sure. I think Webby would be his biggest rival but he doesn't have a secondary rival. I might just make my own rival for him too be honest, but I wish I knew who to put that's around his age. (Also, I realize Boyd is Huey's best friend but Violet is literally his rival in an episode.) I already have an idea for Lena so I can't add her to the rival crew anyways.
Let's talk about the Duck family.
So I decided it would make the most sense if Della and Donald shared custody of the boys. Donald is still Uncle Donald, don't worry. But since Della is always busy with the league they decided it would be easier to just have them both raise the boys. Donald is basically a stay at home dad while Della is constantly working as one of the core members of the elite four. Della is a flying type expert and Scrooge's favorite relative.
Feathery is an amazing boy! He's constantly working with the elite four as the Regions main professor. He's so excited about all pokemon, but his favorite are water types, because they make him giggle like a little kid. He's Huey's favorite uncle and the only adult he can truly relate to. Feathery is still the biggest sweetheart but now everyone takes him seriously and hang on his every word, even if he doesn't realize it.
Gladstone is one of the sole reasons the champion is still the champion. Because of his luck no one has gotten past him and his grass types. If he didn't have his luck people wouldn't have this issue, but he's cursed with it so he literally can't lose. Of course every Pokemon he has ever caught has been a shiny because they seem to gravitate towards him. The only time he can't find one is when he wants to give one to his family. I guess that's just his luck.
Scrooge McDuck, the richest duck in the world. Despite being part of the elite four, he doesn't really have to do anything. Since he's challenged after Gladstone his battles are few and far between. So he began running his company's full time. Although he does have to leave his work to protect the region at least once every two week. He is the most loved of the elite four and also the most hated, with all his enemies. Good thing he's the best of the league.
Region time!
So, Americaw is based off the world of Ducktales and all the places they've been to by the time of the season three hiatus. I also decided you can find any pokemon in this region (even if characters share pokemon sO MaNY TIMES!), and some come earlier than we're used to. Most of the region is mostly forests with ruins but later on is more of the places we know and love, victory road and the league is even one of my favorite places in the entire series.
Gym leaders, baby.
Gym leaders are characters that are associated with the McDuck clan, mostly working for them in some way. I also tried to put a twist on everything and some of the gyms are ones you wouldn't expect for that character. Let's go over them real quick, shall we?
Owlson, the Normal type gym leader. I thought she was perfect for this because she does technically work for Scrooge now. There's nothing too special about her except that she really wants things to go right and she doesn't have room for silly things. I thought she would be fun as a first gym so the kids could get a taste of the adventure ahead of them. She uses a Hoothoot (to harken to her being an owl) named Natasha, and she has a Porygon (to harken to her being a buisness woman) named Charity.
Ludwig Von Drake, the Poison gym leader! As goofy as the man is he is very competitive. He works with Gyro and Fenton on many projects but has his own lab away from them. I think he works the best for poison because than he could be more of a chemist than the other two scientists. He's also the gym leader we see the least of. He's always in a rush to finish his project just to get on the next one thats probably even more dangerous. He uses a Grimmer (chemicals) named Paul, and a Toxel (science in general) named Corey. He also has a Rotom, named Walker, that just helps around the lab.
Fenton, the Steel gym leader. Since fenton is a superhero I thought he could take his typing from Gizmoduck. He's the main one out of the three scientists that makes weapons and items for the police force. The military forces also thank him very frequently. But since he has so many idea's there's no way for him to do them all. He usually overworks himself because of this and it's obvious to anyone who so much as looks at him. Even so he is the most optimistic of the gym leaders and goes nowhere without a smile. He uses a Pawniard (Gizmoduck) named Hero, an Aron (Robots) named named Titanium, and a Scizor (Gizmoduck strength) named Bromine.
Gyro, the electric gym leader. I thought Gyro fit best with electric because of presumably obvious reasons. Gyro is the wildcard of the three scientists and will do anything for science. He can't count how many times he's almost accidentally killed himself with an experiment. He might seem like he's the only one that slows down out of the three scientists, but you're dead wrong. He probably works the hardest and has the most unhealthy habits out of all of them. He's the best scientist in the region and refuses to give the spot up for anything. He's currently trying to find a way to turn his blood into coffee. He's as brutally honest as ever, and still full of himself, but will admit defeat. He uses a Magneton (robots) named Maggie, a Rotom (Lil' Bulb) named Tom, and a Vicavolt (robots) named Vic.
Duckworth, the ghost gym leader. He might be a ghost but that just makes him better at his job. He's extremely neat and gets annoyed if a picture is tilted. He doesn't hesitate to greet challengers with a smile and even give them tips during battle. When he looses he still acts like a gentleman. He loves his work and refuses to leave life without "good reason". He uses a Gengar (his demon form) named Káge, a Banette (being able to poses things) named Mary, a Polteageist (because he's fancy) named Green, and a Mismagius (just because he's a ghost) named Lady.
Lena, the psychic gym leader. I told you she had a job. But I also know this typing might not seem like it fits. But trust me, it does. Her magic is what I imagine when a pokemon is Psychic type, so I thought it was perfect. She's rough around the edges when you first meet her but she grows on you once you get to know her. She's loyal to her friend's and already knows the kids once they get to her gym. I believe she is the only one that doesn't work for Scrooge in the cannon. She's basically the same she was in the show. She uses a Hypno (dreams) named Dreamcatcher, a Hatterene (being trapped by magica) named Princess, an Espeon (her necklace) named Garnet, and a Lunatone (the eclipse) named Lunar.
Launchpad, the dragon gym leader. Plot twist! Let me explain before you start yelling at me. I wanted Della to be the flying type specialist, so I had to do something else for Launchpad. It took me forever to figure out what to give him, I even considered the option of repeating flying, before I finally remembered dragon. It hit me that it was perfect! The dragon type embodies everything he loves. Flying? Boom, dragons fly! Superheros? There's a dragon that looks like it was made for a superhero. Airplanes? There's plenty of those. Acting like a child? How about one that looks like a child's imaginary friend! The list goes on! The dragon type was perfect because it's so loose. Anyways, back on track. He uses an Altaria (clouds) named Fluff, a Salamance (superheros) named Comic, a Noivern (DW) named DW, a Flapple (childish) named Flapper, a Drakloak (Sunchaser/Cloudslayer) named Sunchaser, and a Duraludon (vehicals) named Crash.
Ms. Beakly, the dark gym leader. She's a freaking spy, of course she's dark type. She's the hardest gym to beat, even for final gyms. She's tactical and knows (almost) every trick in the book. She'll point out what you're doing wrong and still beat you if you do everything right. She doesn't go easy on anyone so you better be prepared. Despite all of this she is one of the kindest people you will ever meet. When you loose to her she has a plate of cookies for you to take with you when you leave, and if you beat her she gives you an item that'll help you the most with the league, plus cookies for your travels. She loves Webby so much, enough to teach her almost all of her tricks. She's a good woman. She uses a Tyranitar (strength) named Tyrone, a Pangoro (capabilities) named Gordy, a Grimmsnarl (I just thought it fit) named Grimm, a Malamar (that expression) named Mal, and a Honchkrow (spy) named Krow.
I love this idea and can't wait to expand apon it. I alread have so many ideas that it's hard to not spoil any plans I have. I just hope I don't overdue it. I want it to kinda be like a little more serious version of the pokemon anime. Not too serious, but I want it to be like what you'd find in ducktales (just maybe a tiny bit less kid friendly).
Well I hope you enjoy my idea and have fun with it. Well anyways, have a great day!
Also, here's a picture of the HDLW designs.

Faris D'jinn (long) appreciation post
Warning: If you don't like very long posts or deep analysis of a character or situations, maybe you want to skip this. But you are always welcome.
I will always say this: Treasure of the found lamp! is one of my favorites episodes of the Ducktales bomb (the other is Nothing can stop Della Duck!) I like the jokes, the journeys of the two groups, the cameos of different characters that appeared in Season One. But most of all... Him.
Tumblr media
Faris D'jinn. Middle Eastern adventurer. Seeker of the lamp. Descendant of an actual genie and the amazing woman who freed him. Here are ten reasons (not counting the facts that he is a great swordman and a cool biker because everyone knows that) of why this warrior is one my favourite characters in the Ducktales universe:
1. He is not what he seems
Tumblr media
The first time I saw this guy in the SDCC 2018, and the person presenting the characters said he was Dijon from the Ducktales movie, there were two different reactions from my part:
"OMG! They acknowledged the movie. That means Merlock is going to return!" And...
"This Dijon looks so COOL! But...he looks like a terrorist"
And before you sue and attack me, there are some comments in YouTube that reflected my thoughts. One of them said he looks like an ISIS member.
But I have investigated and I found out that in fact, there are some people that wear traditional black clothes in the Middle East and are NOT asociated with violence or radical groups. So, my bad people. I'm really ashamed for making this statement. I try to not be an ignorant of different cultures for reasons like this.
Anyway, those months I tried to stay positive that, if he was a bad guy, he could get a redemption arc. Because there's no way that this awesome Ducktales crew, that handles the Latino community very well, is going to portray arabs in a bad light, just like every old Hollywood productions (I'm looking at you, Aladdin)
And when the promo of Ducktales and Big Hero 6 appeared, with this warrior using his sword in front of a very scared Scrooge... well... I put my thoughts on another post, but I was a little concerned for the Middle Eastern representation.
Great was my surprise when I saw the episode for the first time. Let say that the power of the lamp wasn't the only plot twist of that episode.
2. He's so serious that it's funny
Tumblr media
His single-minded quest for the lamp before the Ifrit's dawn (a fact that he monologued for 10 minutes without blinking) leaves him with no time to joke around, except everyone around him is a goof, and that makes him hilarous in a sense. Best demostrated when he answered ALL the riddles from a literal JOKE BOOK. He's so smart... yet so gullible that it's amazing. It's like he can't tell when someone is lying or making a joke... I don't know if that's possible. There's also his reaction at the "got your nose" prank which, honestly to me, was one of the best reactions EVER. Maybe it's how he screamed "monster!" and how he seems to really believe the creature got his nose. Truth to be to told, I was very surprised the first time I saw him laugh, that was something unexpected. And how the premise of the episode was him getting a family of adventuring Ducks, a greek Godness, a sea monster and a bunch of Beagles involved in a quest...to give himself a birthday present, like... Who gives himself a birthday present? (Really, I don't know someone who does that)
3. He is grateful even with enemies
Tumblr media
He defeated Charybdis and the poor monster was whipped and given the beat of his life because he wanted to help Scrooge and Webby with the phony quest, and the first thing the warrior does is thanking him and saying that he will be remembered in the story of the lamp. That impressed me... And somehow made worth all the pain that Charybdis had. The same happened with the "Minotaur" and Ma Beagle (the little bow that he made is priceless). Many people would mock their defeated enemies and give them zero respect... but not him. That was so honorable, it reminded me of how Medieval Knights act, which would be discussed in the seventh point of this post.
4. He forgave the Ducks easily
Tumblr media
"Djinn, I'm sorry I tricked you. If I'd known what was at stake..."
"Another chapter in the legend. A final trial before we find the lamp! It's all part of the journey!"
Like wow... That was something I was NOT expecting, because I wouldn't expect a guy who was shouting and slicing things all day to be that... nice. And maybe that could be because there was no time in the episode for the liar revealed drama. But the points D'jinn made about why he forgave Scrooge make total sense. He loves adventures and journeys, he likes to write in a scroll about the trials he had, so he instead took the positives aspects that the phony quest had and continue with his life. Now that's something you don't see very often. Instead of swearing revenge and dedicate his time ruining someone's life (I'm looking at you Glomgold, Magica, Negaduck and other villains) he forgave the Ducks, focused on the present and keep only the most important facts. I like that way of thinking.
5. He has a deep love for his family's history (and his heritage and bloodline)
Tumblr media
He comes from a family that, as far as I'm concerned, keeps the stories of their past alive, passing them to the next generations. It's been ten generations since the genie was freed. What the ex-magical creature got was more valuable that having phenomenal cosmic powers: A loving wife and many descendants who remember them with such passion, and now one of said descendants, fascinated by their love story has adquired the "totem that started it all". I heard that arabs in particular are family oriented people, they would do ANYTHING for their loved ones, and that's the first time I saw that in a cartoon (at least in a Disney cartoon, the other example that is Non-Disney is the Oscar nominated "The Breadwinner", which I recommend you guys have to see it, it's so good)
D'jinn made a long journey from the Middle East to America (at least I think Duckburg is in America) for a powerless lamp because of it's sentimental value, which leads us to the next point...
6. He is a sentimental guy
Tumblr media
You wouldn't expect a tough, serious and to some extent dangerous guy to have powerful feelings like love? Right? Think again. There's a reason of why the call D'jinn (and his VA, Omid Abtahi) a cinnamon roll. He has strong emotions, that is (I think) one of the reasons of why he's so dramatic. It's part of his personality. In fact, his volatile personality (using many times his sword, cutting things, flipping a table) has a solid base of why it is the way it is. I'm not saying that destroying the couch and threatening the Duck family is not wrong, I'm saying this because this is NOT a matter of the "He's an arab and all arabs are volatile/barbaric/will scream and attack you 'cause that is their nature" thing that all the Hollywood movies I saw (at least the examples I saw in the documentary "Reel Bad Arabs") have. No sir, this is different.
And talking about Arab stereotypes...
7. He's a HUGE improvement from the Ducktales movie and series
Back in 1990, he was Dijon, a thief and mook to Merlock, the Big Bad Wolf of the Movie. He was funny and the interactions he had with Scrooge in the movie and the series are funnier (Also, did you know that the last words Scrooge said in the series was "Dijon!" because the duck was running towards him 'cause he stole his watch?)
But, as the Nostalgia Critic put it in his review of the Ducktales Movie
"I don't know... Is this considered racist now? Yes, he has an accent and is a thief..."
He's fine as a comic relief, but nothing makes him different from the Crows of Dumbo, or the Indians of Peter Pan, or the Siamese cats of Lady and the Tramp, or...
Honest Trailer's guy: Stop it!
OK ok. The point it's... The Ducktales reboot did it again. They took a not so well liked character from the '87 series and made him/her a lovable character, like Mamá Cabrera (I swear, she's also mi mamá now)
Now he's honorable, charming, etc (and yes, those words are from a YouTuber reviewer) But specialy, they changed his name to Faris D'jinn which not only sounds more arabic, but also foreshadows his relationship with a genie. Plus, Faris means "Knight" in arabic, which describes what he is and how he acts perfectly.
8. He's different but at the same time just like everyone else
Tumblr media
Gif belongs to @i-mostly-reblog-things
Yeah, he looks different, speaks with an accent that's not American, has a different mindset about things in life and maybe that could come from the country he's been raised, or his family or maybe he decide to be the way he is on his own accord. But, as an lesson learned in the episode "The Depths of cousin Fethry!"
Just because something or someone is different doesn't mean is bad.
True, D'jinn didn't make a first good impresion with the Duck family, except from Webby (You go girl! It seems that she has a talent to see edgy but misunderstood people and give them a chance) but at the end everyone was celebrating his birthday with him. They give him a cake! This small but powefull gesture made me 100% convinced that, even with flaws and conflicts, they are the perfect family. It still surprises me that the crew of Ducktales and Disney would make a scene like that. If someone told me a year ago that they would make a scene with: An arab. Dressed with traditional clothes (turban and all). Wearing all black. Celebrating his/her birthday with an American (Scotish in Scrooge's case) Family, I would have laugh and say: Yeah, sure, like they would actualy show that.
But they did it and I couldn't be more happy.
Just a pause from this Ducktales' post
Some of you could be thinking as you read this: "Nice that your people are shown in a positive way"
The thing is... I'm not arab. I'm a latinoamerican who just happens to love Middle Eastern cultures. My country isn't very prejuiced towards Middle Eastern people (maybe because there's a few of them) but I have come from a long way. To being sure that everything there was just sand and violence to wanting to visit some of the many wonders that the East has to give, meet people and learn their point of view. I think everyone should do that at some point, instead of, you know, getting all your arab information from Hollywood movies and concluding that everything would be better if the Middle Easterns were dead. As this quote from the YouTube Documentary "Reel bad Arabs" states:
"We feel that Arabs are not like us, are not like everyone else, then let's kill them off, then they deserve to die, right?"
The thing is, they are more similar that we think, it's just that the international media doesn't show that... until now.
And going back with Ducktales
Yeah, this dude looks different, but he laughs, feels, and enjoys having a great time just like everyone else.
It's the same that is happening with Fenton and the latino representation. D'jinn is a hero who happens to be arab. A dramatic warrior. A family values man. A great allie, friend and who knows what many things more. He, and other Ducktales characters, have so many layers that it's incredible. Just like people, you can't define someone only from their personality or their race. There are so many things that make a person unique. D'jinn broke the expectations I had for him (or he sliced them with his sword) for the better.
9. He's better than Aladdin in many ways
By starters, the voice actors. Aladdin's VA is American and has an American accent in the movie. D'jinn's VA is Omid Abtahi, born in Iran, a Middle Eastern actor. And I'm not saying arab because Irani people are not Arabs (correct me if I'm wrong). Omid doesn't have an accent, as far as I know, but I think it's a nice detail to have the warrior being voiced by someone who comes from the same place. Then, we have the fact that Aladdin lied to almost everyone and D'jinn was a victim of a lie. True, the Ducks assumed he was going to kill them all (and for a good reason) but a lie is still a lie. I don't know many things about Middle Eastern clothes and fashion in the past and the present, but I can tell you will find (maybe traditional) people who wears something more close to D'jinn than Aladdin, and I'm pretty sure the warrior would free a genie if he has the chance because he's a descendant of one. But apart from their differences, both are really good people with a big heart and a kind soul, it's just that we find out Aladdin is good in the beggining of the movie with the bread and orphans scene and with D'jinn almost in the end of the episode, because to be honest, I was expecting him to be lying about wanting to protect the lamp and instead working for the new Merlock, since that was his role in the original movie. Many of us expected a lying thief, but instead we got another Diamond in the Rough.
10. He is a key for one of Scrooge's character developments

The richest duck in the World was SO impressed by the warrior's story that he opened a museum of valuable artifacts so he can share his stories with his family and the world. Let's repeat that. Scrooge McDuck, a very famous, very important and proud adventurer took the advice of a stranger (he also was 100% sure this stranger would kill him and his family if he doesn't get what he wants) because he saw his "human" side, a family side that made the duck realize "maybe we are not so different after all".
Not even the Buzzards (people who worked with Scrooge for who knows what many years) were capable of convincing Scrooge to do some of their plans (but lets be honest, their plans are awful)
That made him be more open about his adventures, his past experiences and his treasures, each one with a unique story. Maybe that would prevent unfortunate yard sales in the future.
Bonus:
11. He is going to return
Tumblr media
It is confirmed in one of Frank Angones' posts that he is going to appear in the future, maybe as an allie of the Duck family in an adventure. Or who knows? Maybe they can recruit him as a member of a superheroes team along with Gizmoduck, Darkwing Duck and others. Plus, I want to see him interact with Launchpad and Donald.
That would be all... for now.
