I was thinking about how our ineffable pair lived a good portion of time in the uk so they are just a hop, skip and a jump away from Ireland.
I decided to do some rough sketches of what I’d have them wear. They both have traditional léine on but Aziraphale’s is lighter and Crowley’s is far darker to fit their looks. Typically they are saffron or white.
Crowley wearing a kilt because she’s always loved being stylish yet out of style, and I’m a sucker for the fact David is Scottish and we’ve always loved our Scottish bros (history probably disagrees but whatever)
Aziraphale is fem presenting here because they always seem to wear things that cover them up quite a lot, it’s what they’re comfortable in. The fem look also just fits his aesthetic more tbh. Also the plaid tartan-esque look is not typical of the time, but I can’t imagine her without it.
I can imagine Crowley being quite Scottish while Aziraphale deals with some moral quandary about penal laws and crime or something idk.
And yes, the embroidery is very intentional.
(Also this is just a sketch so I didn’t try very hard to match either body type, sorry I’m lazy)

Ok, let's see.
It's certainly plausible for Ireland, and the architecture looks more Irish than Scottish. The signpost is also very much in the Irish style. If it's Ireland, it's somewhere in the West; you don't get that kind of exposed rock in the background hills much in the East.
There are electrical/telephone wires, which puts it in the 1960s at earliest; rural electricity supplies were slow to arrive.
But there are also no road markings, which is absolutely not the case in any modern Irish village. There've been road markings in every built-up area like this since at least the 1990s. So I'm gonna split the difference here and say that this is probably somewhere in the West of Ireland in the early 1980s.
(ETA: Which, now I see it, agrees with @duine-aiteach's find of the photographer.)

A new suffering and displacement 😔🚨
Hello everyone from khan younis city in the south of Gaza Strip , now its 3:10 am the temperature is 10c it's very cold especially inside the tent ⛺ we don't know what to do, even we are afraid to light up a fire because of reconnaissance aircraft exactly (Quadcopter). We live in Mawasi Al Qarara next to the sea so the weather here is so cold.
Hope we can back to our place soon and the war end.
Anyone can help, donate to us we need to buy some necessities as :
—some Fabrics and blankets to make the tent warmer from the inside .
—nylon cover sheets to protect the tent from rains.
—Some pieces of warm clothes for our baby .
TBH : we spent all our money which we saved during the last displacement (No.13) especially the transportation was very expensive. In addition to that the prices of food are crazy, a 25 kg bag of flour costs $200.

FONTAINES D.C. - Big Shot (Glastonbury festival, 2024)
One of my favourite lines from Big Shot. Here's Grian singing it during Fontaines' headline set on the Park Stage at Glasto 2024. Figured it was also a decent shot, the pensive mood, Grian's tricolour band he sets up on his mic at every show the band play now, the beauty of all that in context of the line he's singing. And of course, for Grian in the eyeliner; I am a people pleaser at heart. I've been meaning to gif that moment since June.
[Note: Tumblr killed the quality so click it n be a bit patient if you want to see the proper gif :/]

You've criticised nationalism a lot recently — don't worry, I'm not going to start insulting you or anyone, but could you tell me what your definition thereof is? Because in conversations with other people I have realised not everyone actually thinks it's the same thing (e.g. my mother seems to consider it the same as patriotism, ergo "being proud/glad to be part of your people group" — I doubt this is your definition, but as an example of how far-flung these may be)
i mean. i'd say a few things to this. one, uh. i realize this is annoying but. discourse objects do not have definitions--or rather, they may have definitions which are useful guides to how people use the word, but what discourse objects actually are is constructed by usage, and so will vary depending on how different users of those concepts divide the semantic field, and even depending on the context in which they are used. so, like, be aware of that pitfall
and having laid down that marker, i would then go on to say i don't think nationalism is strongly differentiated from patriotism, either in terms of how it's usually defined or how it's used in practice. i think patriotism is often used as, like. a synonym for a lighter, fluffier form of nationalism. i don't find compelling the idea that patriotism is inherently a virtue. and i think a lot of manifestations of patriotism are also manifestations of nationalism. like the dictionary definition of nationalism is probably going to be something like "preference for one's own nation and its interests especially vs other nations and their interests" and i think that covers a lot of expressions of patriotism, too.
indulging our tribalistic affinity for Us vs Them thinking is cute when it's something that doesn't matter at all, like sports, or which way the toilet paper faces, but i think as a style of thinking it ought to be resisted strongly when it comes to politics. the relevant virtue ought to be solidarity and humanistic feelings that encompass as many people as possible--ideally the whole human race--and not a sufficiently nice form of political or ethnic chauvanism
#i guess the least objectionable form of patriotism you could envision#would be just like a general sentimental attachment to a place#but i have not lived in most of any of the countries i have called home#i have no reason to be sentimentally attached to like Wisconsin#and by that same token i am sentimentally attached to places i have never been a citizen of#like i have quite strong sentimental feelings about Dublin#but it would be bizarre to call me an 'irish patriot' because i am not and have never been a citizen of ireland#and i have no such familiarity or sentiment aimed at like Cork#if Cork fell into the sea tomorrow it would be as academic a tragedy for me as if Vladivostok did

See, I personally find this quest to find pagan/pre-Christian elements in Welsh/Irish literature quite unnerving - I don't know about anyone else.
There's something to be said about genuinely discovering pre-Christian elements in a narrative or story and that being where evidence and study has led you. But I see some people on this fruitless quest to find pagan elements in very Christian texts and sometimes it feels like if no pagan elements can be found, people start making stuff up out of whole cloth - and that can be very dangerous for already not-well known texts in minoritised languages!
There's already so much misinformation out there about Irish/Welsh texts and literature in general - so it hurts to see people carelessly adding to the misinformation either out of ignorance or lack of respect for the source material.
I promise you the source material being Christian doesn't ruin it - you can in fact, enjoy these myths without making them into something they're not!
#I feel like general ire towards (particularly) colonial Christianity has informed how people think of and view anything that is associated#with Christianity - and ire towards some of the ills committed in the name of Christianity is very valid actually#but what it isn't is approaching any text written in a Christian context and immediately disregarding it for having anything unique or#insightful to say. And in a Celtic languages context#this can be especially othering and almost fetishistic of an imagined pagan Ireland and Wales which was 'covered up' by Christianity#and that desire for people outside of Ireland and Wales to impose a kind of 'pagan faerie culture' onto the modern countries directly feeds#into false depictions of Ireland and Wales as 'lost in time' or as magical places full of latent pagan culture &c. which can be really#damaging in its own way against people who live in Wales or Ireland or who speak Welsh or Irish#this goes for other Celtic speaking nations too like Scotland Brittany Isle of Man and Cornwall#But Wales and Ireland tend to be the most focused on for this kind of treatment#luke's originals#Welsh#Wales#Cymblr#Irish#Ireland#welsh mythology#irish mythology#irish literature#welsh literature#Arthurian legends#arthurian literature
