WARD goes nuts for weather documentaries over a movie or a cartoon, though he's also entirely willing to watch a cartoon episode if it's based around that! When regressed, he really is a one-track mind, even more so than when he's not. When they're on shore leave, he will genuinely sit and watch the weather channel as if he was watching like a sport game.

Comfort food isss more of a snacker but honestly if it's something that Bones actually MAKES not just from the replicator, he'll go crazy for that most of the time because Bones makes really good comfort food I think. Probably would like garlic bread with meatballs no pasta!!

and OFC Ward has Gale! she out ranks him and was kina like his CG before Bones and now she's his buddy and. "babysitter" if bones is busy!

he's not super interested in other stuffed animals, but he DOES have a teddy bear that has a raincoat, hat, and boots! Ward does have some of those weather measuring kits and a "weather rock" Kirk got as a joke

COOPER has a hard time picking favourites, but if he's put in charge of the movie or cartoon, he'll probably pick something with an animal focus! Think Fox and The Hound or Dalmation-type animal movies over like Robin Hood (disney's one) or Zootopia, where they're more people than animal. Cartoon-wise, he likes to hear the intro song a bunch of times (only partially bc it drives Ward NUTS)

Comfort food I think would be chocolate chips pancakes. with peanut butter and bananas, made like a sandwich (the PB + banana inside, the pancake like the bread) cut into bite-sized bits to dip in syrup. but he thinks its a lot of work so if asked, he usually just says something about Banana Milk (i think cooper would like most of like. sweet milks. they have a sweet tooth)

Cooper has some toys, he likes hands on ones, soft blocks, those ones where you roll the beads along a wire, ect! he doesn't have a Plushie or Blankie even tho he does REALLY want one but like he wants to be GIVEN it but he won't ask for it PUPPY-Coop has chewies!! he loves them he has dino ones and green ones and chomp chomp

RORY will take any movie because 10 minutes in, he WILL be asleep. it almost never fails. if it's a farm movie, however, he will probably stay awake a bit longer, but then he wants to go cuddle his farm animals

he likes a fresh baked loaf of bread for snacking on! with butter or peanutbutter or jam because then it gets all melty on the fresh hot bread! He also likes fruit salad a lot but No Grapes because grapes in fruit salad are almost always mushy,,,, ick

So back in 2021 The Asylum released Ape vs. Monster, their “response” to Godzilla vs. Kong. Say what you will about that movie, but I was AMAZED by the design of the titular monster, Gila, and was about to praise the hell out of them for it:

So now they released a sequel to their movie, Ape vs. Mecha Ape, and the design of the titular Mecha Ape is also amazing. Suspiciously so.

I couldn’t find the model on TurboSquid, but I thought it looked familiar.

Searching for figures online where I live it’s very common to come across bootlegs, now more than ever with 3D printing technology, some people may get their hands on the file of a model someone else did and either sell the 3d printed figure or the file itself, most likely without the original artist’s knowledge. Add to that the popularity of Godzilla vs. Kong, wich featured a Mechagodzilla, and you come across stuff like this:

Meet “Mecha King Kong”, as online sellers call it. I assume they won’t call it “Mechanikong” because if you know who that is you probably will know this isn’t an official thing. I can’t find who the original artist is.

Now the bodies look completely different, but the head...

There are some differences, like the eyeballs, the forehead, the jaw, and the lenght of the “airvents”. But many of the details are so similar I simply can’t believe it’s just a coincidence:

Now, if the guys at The Asylum are one thing, it’s legaly savvy. There is a reason they’ve succesfully been in the mockbuster business for DECADES. I’m sure they didn’t steal an asset like these neobootleggers probably did, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the “Mecha Ape” and “Mecha King Kong” 3D models have a common origin somewhere down the line.

If there is something I take from all this unprompted cashing-in on robot gorillas, is that if the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel were to feature a robot Kong (Mechanikong or otherwise), audiences and bootlegers would welcome it with open arms.

Scavengers being scavengers and in the process cleaning up the ocean, what a way to get along well with the reader!! This also may mean they have a little mermaid type of misconception about the land world, thinking forks are combs and stuff like that. Instead of the W.A.P. Being a ship of some sort, it could be like a home cave for them. Also nickel is a shrimp. They are sassy and clean creatures that deserve the world.

Mary Shelley’s Frankenhole #5: “Death” | July 12, 2010 - 12:30AM | S01E03

Okay, so Dr. Frankenstein is immortal, right? Like for science fiction reasons, our guy can not die or age and is all Rick and Morty about it. But here comes Death, in his (you can tell he’s a dude!!!!) classic-ass Grim Reaper get-up, all coming for Frankenstein’s two Mortys, who are elderly and very ready to get passed away. Death becomes distraught when Frankenstein doesn’t seem to care about his boys being plucked from his living, breathing, family tree, and demands respect from the good doctor. When he doesn't get it, he decides not to ever take his boys just to spite him, and that’s basically the whole episode. It is an episode about a man being forced to care for his elderly sons for all eternity. 

I never cared for this episode that much, and don’t really have that much to say about it. The joke about me comparing it to Rick & Morty really did make me realize how much this show ran so R&M could walk. Hey, that phrase is weird, right? Like, I’ve constantly heard people say it with walk and run swapped but I always took it to mean the previous generation ran around a bunch to distract dogs from attacking the “walking generation”. But people way it the other way all the time and I’m even seeing internet search results saying it’s actually right to say walk so run. Huh. Well, if that’s wrong I don’t wanna be running. 

I looked up that “Doc and Mharti” short to see when that was made. 2006!! Wow. I would say they still transposed a lotta gloomy tude from this show for the Rick Show, for sho’!

It’s the final one of these things. Fun fact: I attended an Adult Swim panel at San Diego Comic-Con and I think Frankenhole was splitting a panel with other shows, and a friend of mine got up to ask Dino about the possibility of a Count Dino’s Dungeon spin-off and he yelled “It’s already cancelled! GET OVER IT!”. This was after the first Sunday they stopped showing these. 

I am pretty sure that was the panel in which I was seated next to a really beautiful woman in Lady Au Pair cosplay, and didn't realize who she was dressed as until it was deep into the panel, and by that time it felt too weird to break the ice by saying "I know what character you are dressed as... woman... let's make love".

THE DRAWING is of an acrocanthosaurus from the game beasts of bermuda (the game is KINDA fantasy but only because of- the physical morphs to indicate age- like the spikes on her back! but it is just a survival sim where you play as a dino)

Raptors of course are my favorite carnivore, but Spinosaurus are so so cool, I need to look up more videos about them they make me so happy to hear about cause there’s always something going on there and *shakes* I love learning new things about dinosaurs

The main dinosaur game I play is a couple of the Jurassic park Evolution, I will just sit and stare at them run around for an hour, they are my little creatures and I love giving them vile little names

I wish I could play beasts of Bermuda so bad but anything even shark-like freaks me the fuck out especially mosasaurus, despite the fact when I was younger they were my favorite dinosaur (Minecraft archeology mod is to blame for that, if that mod didn’t exist I may have never gotten into Minecraft RP like I have now and like. I have no idea what I would even. be interested in now if that were the case) so I have to steer clear (unfortunately that does rule out a lot of dinosaur games, so I have to check with my brother before playing anything :/)

My little brother let’s me see his dinosaurs sometimes when he’s at a safe enough spot it won’t freak me out which is nice, he has like. Every dinosaur game he can get his hands on and we love talking dinosaur facts together, he’s already talked my ear off about inaccuracies in dinos I’ve drawn but ya know. I got the vibe down lmaoooo

Also one thing i constantly wonder is how it would be if for a short period of time the Unseen Varia are tasked to "assist" Tsuna and his family in getting accostumed to life in italy. Hayato doesnt really need it, he is plenty comfortable with the mafia life but the others? Not so much. Reborn is kinda busy with a lot of stuff regarding actually building up a structure for the family, so they were called to help instruct the newcomers to this life and how to actually survive in italy (Unfortunately Tsunas way of doing things does not work that well in a place where the mafia is 90% of the cities population). Squalo only agreed to it because right now there are little hits ordered and the higher ranks are too expensive to deploy so sending them for lower rank missions would be a waste of respurces.

"Go show this trash how not to fucking bite it in the first week in italy!"

Lor: are we gonna get paid?

Ser: dude. But actually good question. Captain, will we be compensated in any way?

Squalo: standart A rate flat

Ser: FLAT?! (meaning instead of a per hour pay its a set amount of money for the whole mission irrelevant of any additional hours or circumstances)

Lor: Standart A Flat?! You gotta be fucking kidding me, isn't thia a super important mission?!

Leo: *soft worried and anxious whimper at the hightening tension*

Ava: Does that mean each "lesson" will be counted as an A Flat, or our entire stay?

Squ: every lesson

Ser: oh, okay, I'm cool with that.

Lor: can we squeeze any additional pay from them?

Ser: you want to scam Neo Primo for additional pay?!

Lor: hey its a good lesson in and of itself to not be sucha a damn pushover.

Squalo: sure, if you dont get a bullet to the shins, go ahead.

And thus the "Unseen Varia" make their way to the Neo Primo Famiglia. Tsuna is not fucking THRILLED being informed that this is happening about 10 minutes before they arrive, and to his horror they are actually a bit early- and the confusion and shock only gets worse when Yamamoto loudly calls "Ava! :D" only for this young boy to look up, grin widely and rush to Yamamoto yelling "Takeshi!" before jumping into his open arms and giving him a kiss to both cheeks that Yamamoto actually reciprocates.

Yama: it's been so long!

Ava: since the future I believe!

Yama: seriously?!

They both laugh and finally the rest of the Varia that are unknown to the rest of them, close up to the group.

The guy with the long white hair that is NOT Squalo, joins with a grin and as Ava lets go of Yamamoto gives him a bro-y handshake.

"Hey, Takeshi! Whats up man?"

"Nothing much! I didn't know you guys would come!"

The group is not surprised at the fluent japense, after all thats what the Varia officers they met also displayed, but the familiarity is jarring until Yamamoto explains.

"Everyone, this is Ava and this is Sergey, they're Squalos second in command of the rain division."

Ser: sup!

Ava: *bowing* it's a pleasure to meet you all in person. During his time training with my brother, Takeshi told us a lot about all of you.

Yamamoto grins widely to which Tsuna just looks a but curious.

"Brother?"

"Yes!" Ava smiles proud.

"I am Squalos younger brother, nice to meet you!"

There is a round of genuine shock (Squalo has a LITTLE BROTHER?!?!?) and Tsuna mentally notes that they all seem a LOT more tolerable than the Varia they met- in fact Ava doesnt seem at ALL like Squalo- then Tsuna also thinks back on the ringbattles and how Ava must've seen his brother get mauled by a shark.

Ava: mh? Are you worried about the shock of seeing Squ lose and get jumped by a shark?

Tsuna: (he calls him "Squ"...) Um-- yeah.

Ava: it wasn't your fault. You didn't design that battle arena and besides, Dino immideatly called me to confirm, that my brother was okay.

The temperature drops a few degrees and when Ava opens his eyes, they are devoid of any life despite the smile on his face. It just does not reach the eyes.

Ava: otherwise I would've killed everyone in that building and then myself.

Tsuna: (NEVERMIND HE IS JUST AS CRAZY!!)

But Yamamoto breaks the tension by pattimg Avas shoulder and laughing.

"It's good that Dino-san was there!"

Ava immideatly returns to normal

"Yeah!"

Lorenzo then loudly proclaims

"Allright, now that the shmoozing is over, let's get to the point."

He looks directly at Tsuna who jolts.

"We four are the strongest members of the Varia right after the officers. So we were tasked to get you civis into shape." Gokudera clicks his tongue.

"Don't call me a fucking Civi."

Lor: oh? The storm brat has a loose tongue, doesn't he? And you wanna stop me HOW exactly? Throw some firework at me?

Dera: Those fireworks almost killed your damn psycho prince!

Lor: and yet you still lost against said psycho prince

Dera: at least I was a representative for the Vongola in that fight and not some benchwarmer of a second class institution like the Varia!

Ser: Leo, get him!

Ava sighs as Leo quickly grabs hold of Lorenzo and pulls him back.

"Let go of me, Leo, I'm gonna cut this brat limb from fucking limb!"

On the other side Yamamoto has a tight grip on Gokudera. Despite being older and more mature, he still has his temper.

"What Lorenzo wanted to say-" Ava then continues "is that we are here to train you in the survival arts of the mafia life. The city you chose to reside in from now on is to 90% inhabitet by mafiosi of several generations in. They are very well adapt in conning and scheming for their own benefit. Even with the Vongola backing you, they will do whatever they can to bring you down and seize power from you, since they just see you as a civi newcomer. If you had taken mantle as the Tenth of the Vongola Famiglia they would've still shown respect out of fear of angering the entire clan, however now that you have basically opened a new branch, at least as far as the unassociated know, they will try to outsmart you to get a foothold in the power structure. We from the Varia are the ones with adequat experience and knowledge to teach you how to navigate such an environment."

Around half through Avas explanation Reborn joined them and just confirms with a nod.

Lor: that being said, we take half at the beginning of the day and half at the end of it.

Tsuna: half...?

Lor: this isn't some kind of favor we do for a friend, this is a JOB, so as you hired us, you'll have to pay us per hour rates.

Sergey seems a bit nerveous, eyes flicking to Reborn, since he knows Lorenzo is just trying to get MORE money, as all payments usually go through the Varia financial infrostructure but since this IS a good learning opportunity, Reborn turns to Tsuna after a moment of contemplation and just says

"You heared the man. Pay up."

And thus begins unofficially the Unseen Varias mission to instruct the Neo Vongola Primo family in mafia daily life 101.

I really love this little scenario! I don't really have anything to add to it because it's just absolutely lovely the way it is! However, I do want to say again that I would definitely read full novels on these characters! I especially want to say that I love and admire your dialoguing skills. I could really hear each of the character's different voices in my head. Ava has a slighter lighter voice in my head than Squalo, but still has that growling, gruff sound to it that gets worse when he gets upset and he and his brother share some of the same facial expressions and body language when I picture it out in my head. Lor, in my head, has the deeper voice with a slight drawl on some words and his posture and body language is both kind of predatory but also relaxed at the same time as I play the scene out, just because I can hear and picture it so well just reading it all, so compliments to your skills there!!

Wreckless - Water Slides

I got lots of lovies this morning.

When Emmy woke up he just rolled us over and stretched me open.

He wasn't as rough as last night but it was good... really good.

I sort of missed my morning yummies but I'm gonna try to get some later before we have the car ride.

My bottom aches but that's okay... it reminds me of him.

He's letting us eat our breakfast outside because it's nice out.

I'm wearing a new t-shirt he got me and my undies but they're getting wet from him.

I need a shower but I like this feeling a lot.

Maybe that's why he told me to sit outside while he gets his shower.

Huh.

"Finish your pancakes Finn, we still have a lot to do and need to head to the hotel soon."

Water slides... I shove three pieces onto my fork and eat them all.

"Slow down."

I give him a look because he just said to finish.

"Eat normally... instead of daydreaming, darling. What are you thinking about?"

"You in my undies," I say and he laughs.

"I imagine that is pretty distracting."

He comes over and kisses my forehead and it makes me smile.

"I'm having a hard time concentrating this morning too... just look at what a mess I'm making of getting us ready. I'm going to pack while you shower."

"Okay."

Our suitcases are on the bed when I finish.

"I need swim trunks for today and car clothes."

"I know... I'm leaving everything accessible so we can change when we get back. Your dinos are dry, want them?"

"Yep," I say and I put them on along with T-shirt and my flip flops.

"Do I need to be sprayed?"

"I don't know if the slides are inside or outside so I'm just gonna bring it and if they're outside I will take care of you there."

He's really tan.

I didn't notice yesterday.

"You're darker today."

I push my fingertip against his pec.

"Yeah... comes quick once it starts. You're not too red so I'm happy with that. Love your freckles, cutie. Okay, we should head over. We're supposed to meet them in the Lobby at ten."

It doesn't matter what time things are... Emmy will take care of it.

The hotel isn't super close... we have to drive like ten minutes but I roll my window down as soon as we arrive so I can stick my head out and see better.

There are all different colors of slides and some of them are super tall.

"Look."

"I see them. We'll need to spray before we go in. Looks like it'll be a lot of fun."

I take off my shirt and hold my breath while I squeeze my eyes closed so he can spray the icky stuff all over me.

He seems happy and grabs his bag and I follow him up to the building.

Rhys is here.

"Hi, Rhys."

"Finn, hey hey hey.  We can go now, daddy. We can go now."

He has on a swim-shirt with a huge shark on it and blue and black trunks.

We sort of match.

Quincy laughs.

"Yes. Now we can go."

Then he talks to Emmy about how the card works as we go through a glass door but I ignore that part.

They put some stuff in lockers and Rhys and I follow them to some chairs in the shade.

Uncle Quincy takes Rhys' hands.

"What are the rules, bunny?"

Rhys gets as serious as I've ever seen him.

"No running. Take turns. Be nice to other kids. No leaving without daddy. Um... Is that all?"

"That'll do. You want me to come with you for the first one?"

"Yes," he answers and they head towards the blue slide.

Me too... I want Emmy to go with me.

"Me too, Emmy. Please? They're so big."

"I liked Quincy's rules. Can you follow them too?" he asks.

"Yes. I'll be a good boy."

"I know you will, grasshopper. Okay. Which one do you want to try first?"

"Let's get on the blue one with them."

They're getting ahead... they're already over there and we're still waiting.

Why?

"Lets go, Emmy."

"No running," he tells me and I know that's one of the rules and I am not running. 

I'm sort of speed walking and skipping. 

That is NOT running but I slow down anyway.

Rhys and Quincy splash down into the water as we start up the stairs. 

He sees me and waves.

"It's so much fun. I wanna go again Daddy."

I make Emmy go first so he can catch me at the bottom and then I zoom. 

It's scary but super fun.

"I wanna go again."

But a different one maybe.

"ALL the slides."

Emmy has his hair up in a little knot and he's so damn sexy that I have to look away. 

"You okay Finn?"

"Yes." 

We're still in the water but away from the bottom of the slide so I don't expect anyone to bump into me but someone is grabbing my leg. 

I look down and it's...

"Rhys."

He jumps up. 

"I got you so now you're it. Hey. Come on the red slide with me, please? Is that okay uncle Emmett?" 

He looks around and sees Quincy walking over after returning the rafts. 

"Daddy can Finny and I do the red one?" he asks, pointing to the red water slide.

Emmy looks at me and I smile. 

It'll  be fun and we won't have big people slowing us down. 

"Go have fun, boys."

Antique mall finds ahoy!

Got a fixer-upper here, the GI Joe Road Toad. A towing attachment isn't exactly exciting despite the guns, but it was five bucks. The turret mount was broken, as was one of the crucial clips on the back end, but a bit of glue and some scrap parts fixed it right up.

Good as new. Now I gotta track down the rockets and front wheel, but at least the tow cable is intact.

Sack o' parts! The tailfin for a Hot Wheels cargo plane, Busy Town trailer, truck top, forklift fork (it slides up and down on the frame-very cool) and odd black frame are likely getting thrown into the back of the parts bin, but there's also a Voltron tail gun, Land Shark gun, a spare rotor for Zanzibar's Air Skiff, and two red rollers I swear I remember from a vehicle in my youth. Not bad at all.

There were a few dudes in there too: a trio of Jads from Air Raiders (oddly, only available with the second largest vehicle in the line), and Sgt. Hack, of the Shadow Force. Starcom is lots of fun to stick around on random metal surfaces with their magnetic feet, while the Raiders just kind of stand around and look weird. Very well sculpted, but weird.

Accessory-wise, there are a couple TF missiles, a Gobots gun in case I ever want to build Grungy, some Rulon weapons for my Dino Riders collection, Snout Spout's axe (and that's another figure finished!) a Greyskull rifle (one to go!), and the back of Screech's jetpack.

A handful of battery covers (and one emergency light component) may look boring (okay, they are), but I do find a lot of stuff without them, so what the hell. Someday I'll have a cookie tin full of these.

Playset Parts! Three more modular stone walls, in a desaturated purple this time. The red frame is flat and undetailed on the back, and feels 90s. Possibly from the same set as the steps. The short section of what may be railroad tracks is made of rubber, and deeply textured on the top and bottom. The brown ramp plugs into a system of modular tracks I've forgotten the name of, the plant is a truly unusual sculpt (which will spice up the animal shelf nicely), and I totally had the Hot Wheels City Service Center that fold-out leg goes to. Not that I'll ever try to rebuild it, but it comes with the territory with mixed lots. I'm just glad I recognized it, Lens thinks it's a car part.

Finally, building sets, plus bits and bobs. Most of the Lego feels like vintage Castle, the church is from the Game of Life, the bomb belongs to a Tim Mee Strike Eagle (simple blue F15 toy), and I'm totally lost on the black and brown bits. One might be a cap for something, the other could be a board game component. It's hard to say.

Well, that was a hell of a haul. Totally worth the walk in 1 degree weather. And I get to go back tomorrow, because I remembered they also had a bag of Rolling Thunder parts, and if the antennae are in there, I can save a bundle over eBay.

EMBROIDER AND REPAIRING CLOTHES SOUNDS SO COOL, I tried my hand at embroidery but it hasn't gone too well but practice helps ya get better bit by bit!

I HAVE MANY THINGS I'M VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT, Art, yarn, crochet, candle making, as one could guess from my blog writing and other things I can't remember at the moment

Most recently though I've been trying to crochet a plushie for my online friend who's flying down this summer, they have a OC who has a pet pig and I'm crocheting the pig! The yarn I'm using is soft but it has like an odd texture to work with so I have to wear gloves or I'll want to cry, but it's worth it for my friend I've been crocheting for almost a year now but I still can't do too much like certain stitches or a magic circle, MAGIC CIRCLES ARE THE WORST RAAAAA, I really want to learn how to make a strawberry stitch

As you can tell they aren't perfect but I'm improving! I liked crocheting the hooves for the little cow.

I'm also making a mushroom hat for renfair! I'm cosplaying one of my OCs and she's a mushroom themed fay/elf thing that sells shady stuff from her stand. I burned my finger while working on it like a second degree burn [DO NOT LIGHT GLUE STICKS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO GO IN A GLUE GUN ON FIRE, BAD IDEA.] So until I'm healed it's on pause but it should be done by the end of the month so I'm excited about that! I used cardboard as a base and then bendable wire to get the shape I wanted and then I put fabric over it, glued it and put the bottom layer of fabric on the bottom and then covered it with pearls, white spots and little details I'm gonna add more when I'm healed.

I got this candle making kit for Christmas that has a little transportable stove and I haven't gotten the chance to use it yet so I'm planning to make some candles this soon I'm gonna make some themed off of characters to give to my friends! I made my best friend a Silco from arcane themed candle for Christmas last year I think? Or the year before that, I cut a silhouette of the character into vinyl and stick it on the glass part of the candle, Might make a Stardew valley themed one for me, my friend likes blue lock [I think that's the name?] So might make a blue lock candle or one based off of their OC, and might make either a bluey one for my best bud or a game character they like,

I tend to use soy wax as it's the cheapest I can get and it's highly recommended I think, be careful on what you put in your candles [like dried flower petals, leaves etc etc] they can and will catch on fire and BAM SOMEONES ON FIRE.

This is more rambling then info dumping, I don't know how to info dump properly, I remember rambling about Flappers ago, I would copy paste it here but the majority of it is me referring to the wikipedia and taking bits from it to quote and then telling my friends that I got it from the wikipedia.

Institutions in the global north hoard fossils from Brazil, study says

Almost half of fossils found in key Brazilian region now reside in Germany

On the shores of a great lake in the Cretaceous period, dinosaurs, fish, and crocodiles lived and died. For the next 100 million years, conditions were just right to preserve their bodies. During the past century, paleontologists joyfully excavated thousands of fossil specimens from what are now commercial limestone quarries in the Araripe Basin in northeastern Brazil. But most of those paleontologists were not from Brazil, and nearly half of the specimens now reside half a world away from their burial place, in German museums, according to a new study that collated who stores and analyzes fossils from key sites in Brazil and Mexico.

The work adds data to the ongoing ethical debates about what the authors call paleontological colonialism, in which middle- and low-income countries supply data and specimens for high-income ones, local collaborators’ contributions are devalued, and local laws are trivialized.

The study “is really game changing,” says Jeff Liston, a paleontologist at the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology in Canada. “Elevating this stuff from the anecdotal and quantifying it like this is the only way that we’re going to make any progress” in decolonizing paleontology.

Last year, an ethics controversy erupted over a Science paper by a mostly European team describing a stunning shark fossil from Mexico. In the wake of the debate, Brazilian paleontologists, who had been mounting a fierce social media campaign to repatriate a dinosaur fossil stored at the State Museum of Natural History Karlsruhe (SMNK) in Germany, teamed up with researchers from Mexico and other countries to explore colonialism in paleontology publications. The researchers defined colonial science as work that doesn’t include local authors affiliated with research institutions, houses fossils abroad, and publishes on specimens that were likely purchased, a practice outlawed in both countries.

But some of the researchers whose work is criticized say the paper amounts to little more than a personal attack. “I think it’s horrendously biased,” says paleontologist David Martill from the University of Portsmouth in the United Kingdom, who wrote a number of papers cited by the new study. “And by and large, it seems to attack two people: myself and Dino Frey.”

The new study, Martill says, focuses too much on Germany, largely ignoring Brazilian fossils stored at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, and other collections outside Brazil. “Without a doubt, they cherry-picked them.”

Another German paleontologist, Wolfgang Stinnesbeck, agrees. Retired from Heidelberg University in Germany, Stinnesbeck has worked for 35 years in northeastern Mexico and several of his papers are singled out in the new study. He says, “The essential objective of this paper is doing us harm.” He says he has always collaborated with Mexican colleagues and used German funding to train local paleontologists. All the Mexican fossils his team has described, he says, have remained in Mexico; he says his work is not representative of what the authors call paleontological colonialism. He says personal conflict is behind some of the new paper’s charges. “A group of nationalistic activists is out to get rid of their foreign competitors by virtually destroying their credibility and reputation,” he says.

There were actually Jellycats at the Waterstones I was in this weekend, when I've been in the past there was usually just a couple or none. After I took these photos I actually straightened up the display so everyone was facing out. I didn't get anyone because I didn't have money but I did thoroughly enjoy saying hello to everyone and giving them pats and a little "hand cuddle" (like hugging them but using just my hands so that I don't accidentally get them too close to my face or anything).

I really liked Munro Scottie Dog, they had three there, it was nice to check the texture since sometimes it can be a little tricky to tell (a bit like the curvie Jellycats, a couple of lengths and warm/fluffy type fabric instead of silky soft), if I'd had money I honestly would've been tempted to bring one home. I felt Crumblie Fox and liked that texture too (same as or very similar to the Fuddlewuddles). Fuddlewuddle Dino and Elephant are great, the name made my brother smile, they've both been on my list for ages, and Harry Panda is always very tough to resist because while he's not floppy he does have the perfect amount of stuffing (at least all of the ones I've felt) to where he squishes a little when you hug him but also presses you in a nice reassuring way.

I know lots of people like sharks so the sharks in the second photo are Keel Eco (the brand is called Keel, this collection is the Eco collection it uses recycled materials if I remember rightly) and are very very soft and lovely, the Keel Eco stuff is always super soft (almost Jellycat soft) I have a little Panda I got as a gift and they're great so if anyone is curious about those then I can recommend them. In case anyone was curious my brother's favourites were these sharks and Bashful Tiger (he didn't get anything either because he's trying to save money).

In the window I saw a few lambs but didn't get a proper look because it was getting late, I think one might've been Huddles Sheep though (bearing in mind that I need to go for an eye test and definitely need new glasses xD) very cute!

I'm really excited for the Feb 15th drop, I don't know if I'll be able to actually get anything right away (this month didn't go to plan and I feel like their prices have gone up since a year or two ago which is sad for me), but regardless I'm excited to look when they drop! I got my favourites into the three I'd buy if I could though (three because initially three was how many I intended to get and had allocated money for it but between Build-a-Bear and a few things going wrong I used most of it).
