interesting tidbits from the trailer and my probably wrong interpretation of them

zavala is shown (?) the traveler leaving the percussor planet here i think.

comparing to the season of the deep cutscene:

maybe the witness is showing zavala how the traveler left it (playing on zavala's fears, like when he began questioning the traveler for supposedly giving the hive the light back in witch queen)??? not sure

then it seems like he is in the same place where he meets veiled lady:

with cayde saying "you said it spoke to you?" as in the witness, right? the witness showed him the traveler leaving, then showed him... this?

so the million dollar question is: who is this?

veiled lady holding a shard of glass (???? im not sure what that is) right after the traveler leaves the precursor planet? smells like first knife to me!

no really. kind of.

especially because we get this later:

aka tons of veiled ladies dying/going puff. which makes it seem like veiled lady might be a representation of the precursors? like, they are all melting into smoke bc they united to become the witness. and the witness is asking zavala to join them/it. it also sounds like one of the veiled ladies is the one who whispers "suffering" to zavala, sooooo

i do feel like the first knife bit might be a stretch buuuut back in season of the deep (cutscene) we were told the precursors desired a "winnower to shape the garden". veiled lady with shard of glass might just be indicating that the precursors wanted to influence the traveler, which caused it to nope the fuck out and eventually led to the witness forming itself. idk.

it might be the ffxiv fan in me, but veiled lady representing the precursors sounds reasonable bc the precursors stripped themselves of individuality (literally!), as in, without faces, recognizable characteristics, etc, with the precursor faction (penitent, i think?) that led the idea of "cutting off" unwanted aspects of the precursor race, everyone becoming one aka the witness, with one single objective and motivation, blah blah blah. it is implied (both in the vidoc and in game, imo) that they didn't succeed in cutting off said unwanted aspects, tho (which is one of the reasons veiled lady whispering stuff to zavala sounds so fucking angry i guess). not all of the veiled ladies/precursors who are contained within the witness are happy about it, is the thing

(also the witness seems to be in front of the veil at this point, which imo just makes it more likely that veiled lady = precursors + quite literally the power of the veil, AS IN VEILED PRECURSORS)

Guys, I can't get out the Marauders + Lily + Snape road trip with baby Harry around the world to run from Voldemort AU (after reading that glorious what if this happened post by @overlord-of-fantasy; which is just a great idea I swear)— bc it's such A FUN concept like😭 and the bestest crackiest fix it ever — LIKE IMAGINE ALL OF THEM ON A ROAD TRIP. Together. And Harry? Baby Harry who gets his parents and his uncles and gets to see the world as he grows up? Chef's kiss.

steve’s dream future with nancy:

involves going on several adventurous family road trips — which clearly isn’t boring at all

specifically mentions learning a new sport — so he has no intention of being a one time jock

doesn’t mention any career aspirations — but steve does currently have a sales job at family video so…point one for jonathan i guess. but it’s kinda odd how jonathan was making it seem like working in sales was a bad thing when his mom had a sales job at melvards at the time

doesn’t involve living at the end of a cul-de-sac — in fact steve’s dream centers on leaving hawkins

is the opposite of how his parents lived: traveling for the sake of business and leaving their kid behind in the meantime

it’s also the opposite of how nancy’s parents lived: in a loveless marriage and having kids just to check it off the list

and neither steve or nancy find this future depressing — i mean this is steve’s dream future after all and when steve told her about it, nancy smiled and said that it sounded nice

Rain has found himself growing a soft spot for this kind of place — not the food court, but this particular type of store found along the highway peddling souvenir nonsense, magnets in the shape of states, shirts with local landmarks. The location changes, but the items stay the same — swap out one state for another. It’s comforting in a way, a reminder that you’re always somewhere.

You reminded me of chasing ghost around in foreign countries this past year and it was like this, the rest stops. Even in Europe. Predictable but in a reassuring way that even if I’m somewhere new and different it’s still a little the same. I don’t know what to say you just gave me all these feelings over a damn spicy pickle.

aww im glad you liked that part because as i was writing it i was wondering if i was getting too distracted. but i think it really characterizes that kind of space. airports are the same way, they have the same souvenirs everywhere. and theyre all sort of the same in general. i feel like its kind of a way of trying to assert its location identity, because otherwise its indistinguishable from every other rest stop or airport
