hey so i'm. absolutely losing my shit over the fact that the way that castiel managed to evade heaven was through something dean taught him. actively losing it, actually.

if it wasn't for hanging around the winchesters and finding out dean's little idiosyncrasies, he wouldn't have even thought of biggerson's in the first place. and now he's utilizing the fact that they all look fucking identical as a weapon against heaven.

this is fucking insane. i'm loving this.

So funny that the entirely offscreen relationship of John Winchester and Pastor Jim is the emotional catalyst for the s1 finale episodes. John gets wreckless with urgency because he hears Meg kills Pastor Jim. He openly cries about it. This man did not come and see his son when he was dying in hospital but he's TORN UP about Pastor Jim.

i do really like when spn shows fucked up hunters in the early seasons, especially gordon walker types who shoot first ask and questions later. it's really interesting that the average hunter, especially when you talk about american hunters, has this idea of all monsters being irredeemably evil no matter what theyve done. because of course they think that. they get into hunting by losing someone they loved and live their whole lives in the community, never talking to outsiders, watching everyone they know get picked off on hunts one by one, looking over their backs every few minutes knowing that it'll be them on that funeral pyre one day too, probably sooner rather than later

it's absolutely this. throughout the course of the show, they end up seeing/believing each other to be dead lots of times over. you get used to it.

but this is, a), halfway through season three, and sam's really only seen him near-death once so far. on a hospital bed, in a coma. and b), dean's soul is already marked for hell. so to have him suddenly die before his time is up—and then KEEP dying—is devastating.

and then, to have it be permanent. to know there was something you could've done, and you didn't. to know that this tragedy might be on your shoulders. and to carry it like that for six months? alone? because bobby's voicemails practically tell us he isn't looking for any help with this?

...damn, honestly, it's a wonder dean going to hell tore him up as much as it did. i mean, god, he's already done it once.

on my never-ending agenda of wishing supernatural dealt with the characters' blatant ptsd more frequently (it's okay i've resigned myself to the fact that they won't), can we TALK about 3x11 mystery spot; specifically sam winchester

because my god

sam said he went through at least a hundred (if not hundreds of) loops. A HUNDRED. that's a hundred times he watched dean die, most of them directly in front of him. a hundred times he watched what was at that point pretty much his closest friend as well as his only remaining blood relative die. someone who was already pre-destined for hell, at that point—heading there far too early.

the loop doesn't seem to have many (if any) real repercussions on dean. we find out at the end of the episode that he only remembers the most recent loop, finding the trickster, and then waking up that wednesday morning. but sam, on the other hand, spends six whole months thinking dean was dead. and those months don't just magically vanish from him the way they do for dean. no, sam remembers them pretty clearly, as evidenced by the fact that he won't let dean go down to pack the car alone—since the last time he did that, he got shot.

sam doesn't know it yet, but that's longer than he would be without dean while he was stuck in hell. (and only about half the time that dean would be stuck in purgatory in a few years.) for six months, we find out that he has pushed forward with one goal and one goal alone: finding the trickster, with the intent of pleading with him to give dean back (or killing him?). to go back to that tuesday.

...unintentionally, it may have prepped sam for dean's stint in hell a little bit. when you've already spent six months without your other half, four months doesn't seem quite so bad, i suppose.

i do kind of hate that the show never touches on this again beyond 3x11, though. (or if it does, it's barely, and only in 3x12. but i don't remember it clearly enough to make that claim.) this was clearly something that affected sam deeply—and rightfully so, really. despite their estranged years, he and dean have grown super close over the past three or so ish years—they've been through a lot.

...but now, sam has six months of lost time that literally only he remembers.

I'm genuinely getting near emotional whiplash from the way this episode goes from funny to serious so extremely.

Sam is feeling so strongly for this little boy. I think Sam is relating to him a lot.

Sam has done this before. With the rugaru. He wants to see the good in everyone. Believe that they can stay good. For himself as much as for others.
