Sorry if this has been asked before, but what's your process for selecting songs to create polls for? I have an extremely wide music interest range, but I feel like even I would have massive blindspots for a lot of stuff, just because of the sheer amount of music that's available, difficulties with search engines, and the user-reinforcing nature of algorithms on most sites.

So far, I'm extremely impressed. One particularly-niche artist I love has appeared on here before, which absolutely made my day. If there's a random-selection tool you're using, perhaps selecting from a massive, community-built database of song listings, then I'd be very interested in knowing about it. If not, then once again I'm really impressed by the range you've been finding so far, just based on genres alone.

I have siblings who are up to 20 years older than me so I grew up with their music as well as my parents' music while the other kids my age had never listened to that stuff but i made them, i got to listen to music from "the other side of the world" through foreign family members, I was pretty much glued to MTV, and Eurovision can be quite a good source as well. And then there's the movie soundtracks....!!!! and there were a few anime years as well with all that music, too. It all have been a great way to expand the interest range without even being aware of it, i think? There have been some fantastic new discoveries to me amongst the submitted songs but i've also been lazy and chosen submissions that's already been in my mp3 collection. I am slow with working my way through the submitted songs but there's gonna be more of them, I promise!

idk i just thought this whole music hoarding thing was normal when growing up and then I realized it wasn't and I guess I've finally found a use for it now lmao 😂

The process of picking songs pretty much goes like "I love this one! And this! I don't love this but it's cool and different so in it goes! But I love this! And this! And thi- no wait that is too similar, I'll hold it for a while. And this! Oh and a submitted one! And this!"

That said there's only one song i've actively searched out and it was by googling "2024 number one" for something brand new from this year.

January and February dump

This is my most recent work of Lloyd, and my most recent work in general. I made this in the computer room at school with a painful high-sensitive mouse. We have these special course thing in our junior high, so every tuesday after class, I get to be in the computer room. For six hours... (My course is Visual Graphics Design. I'm kinda regretting it now since I've been thinking of becoming an architect... I can't change my course now since it's too late. Which is stupid.)

I'll try to draw more there! I really like drawing with a mouse cause I like the challenge. And since I'm not accustomed to a high-sensitive mouse, it'll be a bigger challenge for me!

I made these two in traditional then polished them digitally since I straight up just used a pen. I rarely use a pencil nowadays so I can learn to fix mistakes without erasing it. Usually it ends up looking like chicken scratch but I'm getting better.

My Harumi one is so bad lol.. When I was making it, my classmates around me were messing around and moving the chairs in the process, making me have to draw strokes with shaky lines. It's not that noticeable though since I made the lines thicker.

I was planning to make something for Rebooted's anniversary but I got busy... (And lazy) The PIXAL one was inspired by an animatic I saw.

If you compare the previous Arin portrait, yes, they don't look the same. I'm trying to find a look for Arin, as I do with every character, that I'll be satisfied with.

By the way, I'm kind of basing Arin's hair with my classmate's hair. Which is funny because my other classmates compared this artwork to my classmate, who looked nothing like Arin but have similar hair, commenting they're the same. (I'm not mad because I actually find this a bit humorous)

I was trying to make an animatic and this was going to be the sketch. But then again, I got busy and lazy. (Mostly lazy)

I accidentally changed their facial features a bit by accident on the second page because I forgot to reference the first page. It was tiring flipping pages every 5 seconds, ok! Also, I drew it after 2 days when I drew the first page, and I didn't have a design I liked for them yet. (...I just noticed Jay has different eye colors in both pages...)

I think I'm sticking to these looks for Lloyd. I'll try to make it accurate to this. (I think I did great with the first image of this post. Though, I made him too round for my liking.)

Discard the growing beard post redesign Lloyd has. That beard thing was supposed to be where his chin was until I realized it was too small. And it's still too small.

Child Lloyd is so cute! The eyeshadow wasn't intentional at first, but then it got me thinking, what if Lloyd had an emo phase? And now emo child Lloyd is my headcanon.

Pre redesign Lloyd kind of reminds me of TommyInnit, and I find it quite funny. Maybe it's the facial gesture, I know a lot of TommyInnit fanarts with that silly face.

For Dragons Rising Lloyd however, I want him to have long hair with his post redesign face. I'll try to make full body designs of the 4 Lloyds.

You guys probably don't care, and this is the first time you've seen me because I don't have an exact artstyle and I dont post as much, but I'm going to put descriptions now since this blog is going to be a silly little art dump! And blog posts are supposed to be descriptive. Which I should've done in the beginning and explained my works..

Sunday - yeah sentences & last line challenge cuz i'm lazy and doing them all in one

So I need to get this thing done - as it has been lamenting on my drive waiting for me to just finish it already - and stop playing around with all the other fics so I'm posting it in hopes that might encourage me to get it frakkin' done already - and i wasted hours this afternoon tracking down one detail lol - but hey that's what happens i guess lol

So this is what I have lovingly been calling gotta sign 'em all - it's a little thing inspired by TZP and his fascination with signing a little book (and well, with him being so ACD-coded it just fits) it's a lot more than 6 or 7 sentences but i just need to get some of it out in the ether

They are nearing the end, both of Henry’s ability to continue and the line of people with books for him to sign, when the girl whose book Henry just signed peeks behind him at Alex. She turns the book to the dedication page and gestures towards Alex. “Mr. Claremont-Diaz,” and fuck if that doesn’t make him feel old, but the girl can’t be more than 13, so he sucks it up. “Would you be willing to sign the dedication page of my book? Your story helped me come out as bisexual to my parents; they’re from the US, and my father’s Mexican family is very Catholic. Seeing you have family of similar background who support you after everything happened to you made me hope mine could be as well.” Alex feels Henry’s hand grab his and squeeze it. This is one of the things that still amazes him: how in sync they are with each other. How even though Henry is drained from a taxing day, Henry is there to support Alex unequivocally. He nods to her and reaches for her book. He takes a deep, centering breath and squeezes Henry’s hand once quickly before letting it go with a smile so he can sign. Henry hands him the Sharpie he has taken to carrying in his inner jacket pockets, and he grips the pen, looking back to the girl in front of him. “I am just floored that my story—our story,” he says, gesturing between himself and Henry, because his story is and always will be intertwined with Henry’s, ever since they first started this, “gave you the courage to be yourself. I hope it all went well with your family.” The girl nods, and Alex sees the wet sheen to her eyes, the tears she is attempting to hold back, and blinks to keep his own at bay. “Yes, it did, thank you,” her smile wobbles a little as she responds, and Alex moves the conversation on for all of them. “Who am I making this out to?” Alex asks, pen poised above the page, ready to sign. He pauses a moment to read the dedication he has memorized as she gives her name.  [insert sappy – probably not good enough – dedication to Alex - probably something about you and me always maybe breaking down walls] He writes her name in the book, adds a few lines about bisexual solidarity, and signs his name with a flourish. He hands the book back to her, and she looks at the page, smiling at his words. Alex is not the most self-aware man, and he’ll admit this, but even he knows that moment has him feeling things he didn’t think it would.

He decides to help her out and says, “Hey, I see you got your copy of Henry’s book; glad ya got one before the vultures at that shelter swooped in.”

This has been bothering me and you seem like the PERFECT person to rant to about it.

Stimblr has a fucking Problem with crediting lately. You know this. You've prolifically posted about it. Namely about people just not crediting or crediting uncredited Pinterest reposts. A fucking hero.

But you know what else people have been doing lately that really grinds my fucking gears?

Crediting SOMEONE'S STIMBOARD that uses and credits SOMEONE ELSE'S STIM. I HAVE TO CLICK THROUGH 5 DIFFERENT STIMBOARDS TO GET TO THE GIF'S ACTUAL FUCKING SOURCE.

Ohhh and you know what I REALLY. LOVE. When I go through 7 fucking boards just to hit a dead end because one of the users deactivated when I KNOW THAT PERSON WAS NOT THE SOURCE OF THAT GIF

re: I saw an old gif of mine used in a board recently and I suspiciously clicked the link. It linked to another board using it. So I clicked on that link. That linked to another board using it. So I clicked on that link. And. That linked to another board using it. ((((((: And then I clicked on that link and..... it was a dead end. It linked to another board using it, but that board's creator had deactivated. So now my gif was just wholly unsourced all because everyone and their mother had to fucking create a chain of tumblr users to go through which is broken the second any of them deactivates.

RRRRRRRRRRRHGHG sorry just. It's been REALLY FUCKING IRKING ME lately. I straight up block people who do this

(not when a longer-standing stim blog does it because I know they're generally reliable and just made a one-time error -- they know better -- but I'm trigger happy on stim blogs I don't recognize or already have a positive repertoire with)

I've seen the same thing happen with my own gifs many times; there's this one bottle cap gif I made that has never once been credited properly because everyone seems to find it from and source the one board that mis-sourced it. Sometimes I contact people about this but the last few times even when I do they don't bother to fix it, even when they say they will.

I'm tired. I don't know what to do about it. I was going to make a sourcing blog but only two people were interested in helping and I started a 9-5 yesterday and I can't afford to burnout again. People frequently get away with being lazy about sourcing and no one actually does anything about it because they're either also too tired or afraid of conflict. And new people see people being lazy and think that's the norm and it spreads and spreads and spreads.

I can feel myself getting more apathetic every time I see it happen. Because there isn't actually anything we can do about it unless we come together and work beyond our limits to put an end to it. People have tried to do similar things before just to maintain sources on deactivated stim blogs and that's been met with mixed results at best.

Idk. I'm tired. I don't even know when my next original post will be. I'm just trying to make it past the probationary period and survive until I get my first paycheck. Stimblr and its problems aren't even on my radar anymore.

more bg blorbo posting!

longer time blog friends may recall something of rhyst as my jedi knight from swtor, but he also has an older sister, rhiannon! and true to form, trying to get their looks right in bg3 was a hell i spent like three hours slogging through for each of them because despite how long i've had them as ocs, they're probably one of the bigger mysteries to me as far as appearance. [which i think, case in point, rhyst has gone ginger since the last time i've posted about him. dyed ginger at least as far as swtor edition is concerned, but ginger nonetheless!]

i've been back and forth on the details of these siblings... pretty much since i decided that they were siblings. and rhyst always gives me interesting conundrums because he's technically cut out of the same cloth as tyr is and a lot of that, thematically, still likes to show up and leave me feeling like a wet dog in flooding road pothole during a storm. that also meant for a while that him and tyr shared some similarities in appearance, too, and while i've decided my brain might explode if i tried to address that in the galaxy far, far away, i thought i could have a bit more fun with complicating everything in their fantasy land adventures, lol!

so! rhyst i have made as an oath of ancients paladin, and in my heart a paladin of tyr [i'll address that in two seconds, i promise, lol]. i've been lazy on downloading the deities mod i'm pretty sure exists for paladins bc i'm not ready to get into his playthrough for real yet [or rather, the latest one. considering he has seen. a few attempts already in bg. i swear, this man and not knowing what he really looks like driving me absolutely batty], but i might yet. anyway, that's not particularly important. he's the younger of the siblings by a year or two and is generally like a really, really happy to see you labrador. rhyst is kind of a burning idealist and kind-hearted. he's ready to look for the best in just about anyone, or at least acknowledge that, if circumstances had been different, people he winds up crossing blades with may have seen differently. he's fond of stories of heroes and i'd say he's... the kind of still young enough where he hasn't had his ideals and drives of "why can't we all just get along" thoroughly tested yet; the world hasn't had a chance to jade him.

rhiannon is a light domain cleric of kelemvor and sometimes the one that's a little bit more ready to start swingin' of the siblings. [though if you put them both in the same room, they can mutually come to a conclusion that bashing things is the correct way to resolve a problem, and will do so with gusto.] while both of them can hold fairly rigid to their sense of right and wrong, i think rhiannon has had a teensy bit more practical world experience and was the bolder traveler of the two of them.

and with harper heritage, both of them firmly stand by doing what needs to be done.

both are born and raised in baldur's gate, primarily by their mother, a city druid. what they know of their father is mostly stories, but rhiannon might've met him once or twice.

so, the reason i mentioned tyr [the oc] in all of this, lol, is bc i keep making bg-edition of his family group bigger, lol.

the man, the myth, the legend, etc etc. tyr who i've realized i should probably start calling oliver in baldur's gate to steal a leaf out of one of his covers bc for all the 'finding new paths in life' after spending his first couple of decades working as an assassin, going by the name of the in-universe god of justice is maybe a bit more sacrilegious than i'd diagnose him with. not that the man is particularly faithful to authority and the divine, exactly, but he's also not looking to pick a fight with the god of justice. a few others, maybe more so, but that's getting ahead of ourselves.

so before oliver sort of settled down for good and moved out of the city, he did spend a little time with the harpers, and that kids, is how i met your mother. [badumtsh!] (whom i still have to name. rip)

it's a relatively short relationship i imagine, compared to the fact that oliver's now married with two other daughters (one biological and one adopted), but also pretty amicably ended. i think rhyst and rhiannon's mother wasn't quite interested in keeping up with the likes of the harpers anymore and was a bit more ready to settle in, where oliver still saw work to do [and involvements to atone for, which is perhaps deserving of a post of it's own because gods know him and alucren have. (gestures) Things going on between them].

so, ~unfortunately for dear mum, rhiannon and rhyst sort of inherited the harper's bug, and a nose that wouldn't leave a layman's "well enough" alone. rhiannon seeks to lay to rest the undead i think partly inspired by dear old dad's previous connections as an assassin, and rhyst pursued the path of a paladin inspired by heroic tales and talk of honor and following codes and oaths taken.

undecided just how involved in the plot i'll get them, but i do think it'd be a lil fun to at least have one version of events where there's a kinda silly family reunion to the tune the likes of "of course you'd be in the middle of all of this. how can we help?" [oliver and jaheira shaking hands and sighing over wrangling strong-willed kids]

Hi! I've been following Lets Get Burgers since it first started and love it to bits (the rest of your art as well, your style is lovely). As for questions: I'm also an artist and have for many years wanted to make little comic strips of my own, but always find it hard to find a workflow that's both not super intensive and slow to work on, making real tedious. Did you run into similar issues before or while making Let's Get Burgers? If so how did you get over this?

Hello, and thank you so much for supporting my work for so long! It's truly appreciated :)

Before making let's get burgers, I'd been wanting to make webcomics for a while. However, none of my ideas would ever stick, and I'd often give up before I ever even drew anything. I now know that this wasn't because I was "lazy" or something, I was just way too focused on making a webcomic that I thought people would like vs one that I would actually enjoy working on.

The first strip began as a stream-of-consciousness scribble in my sketchbook that I decided to turn into a comic simply because I thought it'd be fun to draw. After I posted it on twitter, I was surprised with a very loud and positive response to it, and while all the likes and shares I received definitely helped fuel me to make more comics (i'm VERY influenced by positive feedback haha), more than anything the fact that I had fun drawing them helped me keep going.

It wasn't always fun working on them though! Since I start to regularly post these strips on social media, inevitably I began to compare the amount of likes/retweets one strip would get over another. Obviously more "relatable" ones would usually do really well, while the weirder and more out there ones would receive a more lukewarm response. That would in turn make me try to make comics that I thought would be successful on social media rather than ones I personally thought were cause I often couldn't help chasing that high of getting a whole bunch of likes/retweets on my art. That was the most draining part of maintaining a webcomic, and was usually the reason I took hiatuses and breaks. Usually after my breaks the comics I came out with felt more honest to myself but the cycle would continue after I'd inevitably get fixated on numbers again.

I'm ultimately happy with how let's get burgers came out, but after I finished the comics for the book release, I made a vow to make comics for myself and no one else. I'm still making let's get burgers comics, but I don't post them on social media anymore, and I only share them with close friends. I think the result is comics that are undiluted by the desire for attention and validation on social media and are ultimately more true to myself. I'm excited to show them to the world once I feel ready to! :)

I guess what I'm getting at is the most exciting and least exhausting way to draw comics for me was

to make comics where the writing/drawing process itself is fun and not too intensive or daunting and

to put safeguards in place in order to not get so fixated on and stressed out about social media performance.

As a pre-note also, this is almost an ultimate guide (as of now.) If any details here conflict with previous details, this one is the correct one. They shouldn't, but I'm not omniscient (infact I'm pretty small brain actually.) Also restating stuff I've mentioned before just to include the full dining experience. And no, I still don't have his casual outfit. It's not here. (i know what it looks like am jus lazy...)

Hobbies & Stuff (L)

He likes to go outside and sit, usually. Look at the grass and rocks, hold whatever bugs come crawling by, say hi to some birdies, etc. He tries to make friends with the crows, but he keeps forgetting. In his off time, it's not uncommon to find him sitting in the grass (or lying in the grass which can be a bit disconcerting if he's also spaced out 😥)

He can also play the guitar pretty well. "Hey Hoshiz, Play Wonderwall." Usually he spends more time playing guitar than usual if he can’t see. Not always well, just having fun with it. He also grew into playing one song that’s fairly easy to play that he has memorized.

He likes to produce music as well. He's picked up the hobby since a younger age, and still works hard at it today. He’s not stunning or amazing, but he makes good music. While he likes to share it with others as well, he usually just keeps his music saved for himself. He has a laptop that’s a bit dinky at this point, but plenty competent for his purposes. He does more upbeat and experimental electronica(?) music.

He's greatly enamored with dragons as well, and has a collection of books about dragons too. He's creative as well -- he has and continues to pour a significant amount of energy and time into creating and maintaining a pantheon and world of dragons he's created. He keeps a few notebooks with him to write stuff about them in. They're almost like his version of a diary even with the amount of allusions he tends to make, and his collection stretches back to just after they moved. There are a couple notebooks from before the move, but he doesn't really touch them anymore, and most of the pages are ripped out. He tends to drop references to his dragons in conversations as though everyone knows what he means (they don't) and will GLADLY rant about dragons if anyone asks.

He has two plushies with matching designs - one is more keychain/handheld size that he brings with him everywhere, (usually in his bag or pocket or something, or clipped onto his clothes) and a bigger one that he usually keeps inside or on his bed. It's a little white and purple dragon, he says her name is Blushie. The little keychain is “Happie Blushie” - his happy charm that he takes out if he's upset. The bigger one he keeps on his bed is "Huggie Blushie." He's had both for as long as he can remember, gifted by his grandma, custom made based off of some of the drawings he’d sent her. Both are fairly worn, but Huggie especially. He loves his Blushies, and even asked for parts of his hero outfit to include motifs similar to the Blushies, and a special pocket to keep Happie Blushie with him at all times.

He doesn’t really have a favorite color. If you press him about it he'll probably just start listing different colors and what he does/doesn't like about each of them with at least a few dragon references.

His approach to gender & pronouns is precisely the Knuckles pronouns meme, I think I'll draw it at some point. And his sexual/romantic orientation is pretty much the same way as well, though it's probably gray/demi and omni?

He basically refuses to cut his hair, or at least to any short length, and still only trusts his mom to cut his hair. He likes to keep his hair clean and nice, and likes it when others touch/play/mess/etc with his hair, though he does prefer that it's expected.

He only just got a phone before attending UA, and it's already filled with pictures of his pets, several wild critters he saw, cool leaves and plants, pictures of his drawings, and a lot of just dumb stuff. He’s really bad at taking pictures though. He also was able to keep his laptop with him, so he can produce his music while there.

He hadn't grown up with texting. He is a very slow texter, and usually talks in proper grammatical sentences. Scary. Most acronyms especially (but a lot of slang as a whole) are lost on him. He does not know about many memes outside of what his schoolmates show him, but he’s trying to learn… somewhat. Despite this he’s not a complete brick wall to text, and will engage well in any conversation that piques his interest. Just be patient...

Personality (L)

He's not exactly outgoing, but not timid or shy either. He's very open to talking with others, and will happily and readily engage in conversation. He rarely kicks off with small talk, or talk just to Talk though. He'd much rather start a conversation about some random thought he had. He doesn't talk about himself much either, as he doesn’t really know what to say.

He's quite forgetful, and tends to forget things even a few seconds later. He also misremembers major details about people sometimes, even if he's seen them recently. "Oh, you dyed your hair, I like it." "...No I didn't??" "Oh."

He's quite creative. He's one of those types to burst into a conversation without warning with some random thought he just had, whether related to the current topic, a topic from 5 minutes ago, or something else completely different.

He has pretty strictly "good" morals, but can be easily convinced or deceived into believing something is right. Like, he does things because he thinks it’s the right thing, but doesn’t think through it all that far, and often fails to notice subtleties unless they are Pointed Out At Him. He also believes the same of everyone else by default, and often expects others to hold similar values and morals to him. He does not expect others to just lie about something, just as he wouldn’t lie.

Hoshizawa is frequently listening when you don't expect him to, and not listening when you want him to. He doesn't shy around bringing up or making known that he overheard you either.

He isn't vivid with his emotions usually?? He can tend to bottle up or hide his emotions in general, unless it's something big at the moment, in which case he can very easily default to crying. He doesn’t really actively hide his emotions, but more so a mix of not knowing how to talk about them, and not knowing that it’s not just normal or standard and just doesn’t realize how he’s feeling at all and doesn’t really pinpoint it.

He is honest to a fault, or at least he tells his truth to the best of his ability. It can be very convoluted or confusing, and he often misremembers details. Sometimes this can come off as deceptive to someone suspicious, but it's not his intention. He doesn't skirt around denying something, raising an objection, or pointing something out either. He only really skirts around talking about himself when he was younger - he won’t lie, but often won't explain in any discernible detail.

On honesty, including when talking about people. It's rare he dislikes, especially hates someone, but he won't skirt around how he feels about someone. He doesn't typically go up to someone and just say if he doesn’t like them, but if they ask he wouldn't lie.

He very much lives in his head. He frequently spaces out when not very much is going on, and can be completely unreachable. He can ignore others by mistake, and can space out in the middle of interactions.

A bad habit is he tends to say something the moment a thought comes to his head, and often ends up interrupting others because he just had a thought.

When he gets accused of lying, he stops talking about it as a whole and moves on to a lighter subject where applicable, or just ends the conversation. He doesn't try to justify himself to someone who won't listen. In fact, he generally tends to just disengage and mute conflict.

While he means well, he's just not the person you would want to go to if you need to vent. If he doesn't just try to change the topic he can be unintentionally dismissive of someone's issues, or give Really Bad nonsense advice. He's like, negative therapist friend, honestly. He doesn't mean to be rude, but definitely better to come to if you want a distraction, and not advice or comfort. Also in the traditional Squishizawa ways, he will gladly give you a hug.

He’s not “facts over feeling hEhE” but he does take a very logical/analytical approach to trying to understand emotions and whatnot when he doesn’t understand them. Hence the amount of references and connections he makes in emotional situations. He often has a hard time exiting the box of the implications of an emotion, if that makes sense (i hope it does because I don’t understand it either…)

He's not afraid of bugs or critters, or really any animals. Probably to a ridiculous and dumb point. No matter how many times he gets stung by wasps or something, he’d probably hold one. He's strongly against killing animals or bugs for nothing, and will often try to protect them wherever he can. He's the one that takes the spiders outside. Please do not stomp on them. He already named it :(

He loves physical contact. If you ever need a hug, Squishizawa is always here. He will not turn down a hug.

Yummy snackies!! (S)

He's not terribly picky, but if he dislikes something, he will not eat it, and rather avoid it. He's very obvious about this. Usually he'll try to give it back or pass it on to someone who would like it more at least.

Sweets are kind-of always in the meh zone (he'll almost always eat it but typically tries to pass it on to someone who likes candy more first) except Bontans, which are his favorite.

Meats are something he eats infrequently, but he likes it fine nonetheless, and he'll eat it. Sushi & raw meats is a complete no go though.

He likes vegetables a good bit, and loves nearly every fruit (given it's not spicy or too sour.) His favorite food as a whole is watermelon, but is not picky with fruits and veggies. Fruit is his candy.

He does not like sour. Some sour is okay, but anything too sour he won't do.

He will probably cry if he eats spicy foods.

He's a pretty competent cook also! He's not a super amazing chef, but he can definitely hold for himself in the kitchen, and is proficient in cooking.

Home life & Past (S)

Still hiding most of it hehe I might share more eventually <3

He moved away from his birth town in Southern Japan in late primary school, after having been held back a grade for medical reasons.

He had been quite reliant on his parents, as they played a more possessive role in his life and he remained dependent on that. Strictly home-schooled since moving, he hadn't had much contact with other people his age either. Any time he had the chance to reach out, he was rejected.

Now in UA, he will still call his parents frequently. He gets a bit sick of it, but at the same time it gives him a sort of necessary comfort. He genuinely loves his parents, and, where possible, will rarely make a big decision without at least consulting them, in which he will always take their advice.

His mother used to be a sidekick. While she didn't have much success going much further than that, she still lived comfortably at home soon following their move. She was a lot more consistently close with Hoshizawa, and most on board for allowing Hoshizawa to attend UA. Her quirk allows her to fling volleys of star-like "shurikens" at a target that burst into harmless sparks on impact.

Quirk details (XL)

His father currently works a much tamer job in comparison, as a computer hardware engineer. He wasn't as engaged in Hoshizawa's life directly, as he worked most of the day, but held more control over the household and other decisions. He has a quirk that allows him to create small, orb-like light sources of any varying intensity.

Whenever talking about his past himself beyond that, he tends to be fairly inconsistent, and it's not hard to find that it doesn't line up, whether because it seems too weird, or details don't line up.

Generally, his quirk allows him to create and manipulate miniature, (millimeters sorta small) cyan and yellow stars that produce similarly colored clouds of stardust which he can also control. The tiny stars themselves are bright, but the clouds of stardust they make can be disorienting, and temporarily blinding to those who look at it for long. The thinner, or further away a cloud is, the slower it acts in causing these effects though. As he uses it, he takes on the same effects it causes, however.

Hoshizawa knows how to use his quirk in a couple of ways. He can create the stars in his hand and throw them out, create stardust from his body to float around him, and bring the stars and stardust tightly together to make a loud flash of light. When creating stars to throw, they float past and eventually come to a stop midair. Once they're flying, they start to create a dim (relative) trail of stardust, which soon turns into a proper cloud once they've separated and come to a stop. When he creates a cloud around himself, it's usually not a lot at once without straining himself. He can however shake himself (or other similar body movement like if he falls & hits the ground) while doing this to increase how much there is at once. The flash brings together a collection of stardust already in the air, and makes a small burst of light, as well as making a loud, twinkling “pop” noise. It would absolutely be extra of me to make an audio for what I’m thinking, so that’s why I might at some point.

Once he creates a cloud, it doesn't take a long look at it to be blinded. Likely just more than a couple seconds of a look can trigger the effects, and a few seconds more can be blinding. Also depending on how dense it is, or how close someone is. When under the effects, one can quickly be horribly disoriented or faint feeling, as well as being temporarily blinded.

Standing in a cloud isn't worse for any particular reason beyond the effects setting in Much Quicker because You Are in a Cloud of Blinding Light??? The closer you are, the less effective external eye protection is, and once within the light, unless one is wearing very specific, strong eye protection, it is basically useless.

A quick glance past a cloud, or with your eyes shut tight or otherwise obscured usually wouldn't be an issue. As well, powerful solar eye protection (ex. eclipse glasses) would work: this way it's possible to see any stars or stardust clouds without disorientation (the less it is, the dimmer, but still possible to see with a sharp eye.) but only be able to see things of similar brightness. One will get as disoriented as they are blinded, meaning if someone is unaffected by the blinding properties, they won't be disoriented either.

However, his quirk doesn't come without cost. While looking at the stardust is completely ineffective in blinding him, as he uses his quirk, he slowly starts to take on the same effects. Any amount of use will cause the side effects, but he is able to hold up remaining sighted for a while. He experiences disorientation as well after a while too.

Typically the worst of the side effects stay for around a day, and go away over time depending on how bad it is, but rarely it can last even longer periods of time. The disorientation effects can get pretty bad, but don't last as long - a couple days tops to go away completely but usually worst around a few hours to a whole day depending on severity. It's not entirely consistent either just by chance, and if he's less strained/stressed/tired/etc. he is able to go longer and recover faster.

While recovering from major use (gets to a point where he's lost most/all of his sight) it's just not worth using his quirk again. He has to expend a lot more energy (and sight+centeredness) to get half as much good out of using it. 99% of the time he's going to take that time off. Worse so, overusing it while recovering can make the recovery take twice as long or more. The effect continues to worsen exponentially if he keeps trying to use his quirk while recovering, but he says it's never happened to such an extreme extent.

When his body creates the stardust while he's using his quirk, he will glow with the stardust himself. This is nowhere near the blinding clouds, and is more like a cat's eye or other similarly mirrored light but appearing more like glitter. It can be found in slight amounts in the air or surfaces he recently visited (around 10-ish or so minutes at most) or where he is currently. The amount of dust is relative to how much he used his quirk: the more he used his quirk at once, the more extra stardust there will be. Hoshizawa tends to not even notice it, as the more light he ends up actually giving off, the less he can typically see. This effect lasts for a couple hours. However this does not happen if he used his quirk while still recovering from overuse.

Yes, he can look directly at the sun (and other similarly bright things) without his eyes frying. Both the sun and the stardust aren’t fun to look at either way, but more like staring at a shaded lamp than burning his eyes off, which he can get used to anyways. Sometimes he can space off staring at bright lights or something and it's weird. Despite this he will usually see as normal. However, in darker spaces he can't see quite as well. His eyes just can't adjust to dark environments as well. Like when you're up at 1:30 am staring at your bright phone screen all night and look up - that first second is how well he usually sees in the dark.

One usage of his quirk he used only once before, during his entrance exam

He discovered and showed an extreme version of his regular burst during his entrance exam. Similar to the flash, but bringing together and "igniting" all existing stardust he's made up to that point (including currently still inside him) to make a much greater flash focused on himself that can even physically blast away anyone or anything nearby in a burst of light. using it just wiped him out completely, and he fainted on the spot. Following this incident, his quirk stopped working for a while, for which he experienced some other ill effects, as well as the familiar blindness and extreme disorientation. While he doesn't know why it happened, even if he knew, he is far from keen to try it again.

UA entrance exams (M)

Convincing his restrictive parents after so many years of homeschooling to apply to one of the largest, most prestigious and grandest hero schools was more than a task. Fortunately his mom sided with Hoshizawa, and applied him to UA, only sort of behind his dad's back.

The day of entrance exams and all soon came. He passed the written exam very well, definitely in a higher grade of scores. However, the practical gave him a bit more issue as his quirk was a lot more of a special effect, couldn't actually hurt something alone, and would seem ineffective on mechs. Despite this, he managed to score a lot of points by figuring out generally how and where the robots sense the world, and using the light and noise from his quirk just enough to screw with their detection to trick them into breaking themselves. Most of the exam he tried to keep distance from others, as he was afraid his quirk may affect other test takers. Due to this he scored less rescue points which he had to make up in overcoming more of the mechs.

He used his quirk in an extreme way during his practical exam, in a way he hadn't even expected himself. He discovered and showed this extreme version of his regular burst. Towards the end of the exam, he was struggling to see and walk straight. He had lots of stardust still in the air that hadn’t completely dissipated, He got several points for managing to destroy several of the mechs with it, however, using it just wiped him out. Fortunately for him though, time was almost out anyway.

His parents were freaked out by this, and they had a big talk over everything, considering trying to take him out of the school. He assured them he still really wanted to go, and that he would be safe. A lot of debating later, and they finally came with a compromise, choosing to let him continue at UA if he made it. Fortunately, he received the acceptance letter not long after, and he was able to attend UA, following their other terms as well.

Sorry it took me a while to get to this and thank you for your interest in my often inconsequential rambles ♥ I'll edit on "read more" because of length, if tumblr allows it to work this time.

Yes, I was talking about costumes in that post, I believe, about how there are so many critical videos on "historically accurate corrections" for outfits in Disney films that I feel miss a huge opportunity to discuss how animators are inspired by much more than that.

Because, not only it's rather pointless to try to trace a time and place for a fairy tale, when most of the Disney-adapted ones can be tracked to a compiler or adapter but not an "origin" per se, but also the time in which the movie was produced has a super interesting influence in character design, not only in clothing but also in depiction, as well as other important animation-specific decisions (such as color, movement, personality, etc.).

A very very long time ago, when Disney did some messed up redesigns for the princesses, I searched for fashion magazines, patterns, runways and photoshoots of outfits from the year each movie was released in, to compare with their design and the redesign, and see if there was relevance in the fashion of the time rather than just history or character. Even if the post is very old, it got some interesting results.

Of course that taking this into consideration can showcase the positives and the negatives, how a character or an archetype is viewed and perceived in a specific moment in history. They can let you see amazing conceptual choices but they can also show how prejudice, problematic or outright bigoted notions of "the other" bleed into a certain time period. This is also useful to see how things have changed (or not) in those depictions.

Accuracy is important, in my opinion, in cultural depiction rather than a "historical" basis. This is a good intersection to observe, especially comparing movies in which there is a white American depiction of a culture (like in Aladdin, for example, and the use of certain clothes or items just for their problematic western appeal) versus movies later on in which they had a group of specialists from the culture and place to make corrections (in Moana this happened a lot, for example when the Trust suggested changing her clothes' design, which was historically accurate, to one that would be more appropriate for sailing, even if less detailed).

Narratively-wise, we can observe a similar thing. Disney films tend to be hated by most fairy tale and children's lit focused academia because, they say, they "sugarcoat" the stories they tell, or they modify them too much. These people forget not only that times change and stories change as well, but also that whether they like the movies or not, there have been several generations growing up with them already. Pretending they don't exist makes them miss a huge opportunity for analysis of what's become the prime access to fairy tales that children get.

The way in which each time period decided to adapt stories, or create new ones from existing folklore, doesn't only speak of the medium it's adapting to but also what is important and relevant in each time period for an audience. Again, not only in what is successful, but also in where it fails. This is a good indicator of what has changed in the perception of certain topics, archetypes or plots with time. In one of the workshops I taught, I picked some fairy tales and then Disney adaptations and worked through some of those changes in narrative.

Naming examples of this would take entirely too long but, to give just one: the characterization of the Beast in Villeneuve's story versus Beaumont's story versus Jean Cocteau's version versus the Disney 1991 version were developed with entirely different narrative needs from an audience at different times. The live action ruined the progress, but I digress.

Again, there are successes and there are failures, but when something doesn't work or isn't enough, it's important to note why. Focusing more on Pixar, for example, Brave did amazingly in its first half to depict a mother-daughter relationship in a much more complex way than fairy tales, both traditionally and within Disney, had done before. But then, they took the movie away from Brenda Chapman and changed the focus of the film. That is a whole field to discuss and to understand the effects of storytelling and depiction, rather than just focusing solely on what would be historically accurate for the movie to do with Merida's marriage or if you like the movie or not just on the surface.

At the same time, when it comes to criticism, sometimes people in general tend to evaluate all Disney films as if they were being released today, and that criticism also misses a lot of opportunities for growth. People are discussing the depiction of consent in Snow White from the late 30s in the year of 2021, as if the movie had been released today. They also fail to compare how, even if problematic, Disney's Snow White had a lot more agency that the one from the Grimms, which is the one they were adapting. It's not about overlooking issues that were always there, but of using them to understand how we should grow narratively to accompany the growth we aim at in the perception of the world. Especially when it is for kids.

When I made my post, I was ranting about those videos that I find lazy and uninspired and I'd rather talk about how many different inspirations animators had to design a character, or concept artists developed for the production design. But, also, when it comes to narrative, it can also hinder any worthwhile analysis of the stories. Just like we can study fairy tales to understand the time and place in which they were adapted and compiled (or, sometimes, created), we can do the same with Disney films, which have become the way we have received fairy tales most often for the past 80+ years.

Robbie as Bullock

This post will probably differ from the others in structure and be a lot longer for one big reason

When choosing Miraculous for the Lazytown characters i really wanted to only use ones that we've already seen in use in Miraculous Ladybug and know how they work from there.

For Robbie i broke that rule. I don't really remember what first made me consider it but it probably had to do with the fact that i think the Ox Miraculous, just aesthetically, would fit Robbie perfectly!

So for this one i had to start from scratch completely, no reference for a canon hero design, no idea what power or weapon he'd get, no clue what the phrase to transform could be.

Of cause i used the most references for him but here are the ten i found most important

Obviously i don't expect any of my speculations to become even remotely canon once we find out what Stompp, the Ox Miraculous, actually does but i hope it at least makes sense for now.

I like how I've drawn all the others standing head on to face the camera and Robbie just leans there. That's because you have to think he doesn't care, the little Tsundere

Concept Overview:

In the Miraculous Ladybug episode we meet all the Kwamis, including Stompp, he is the most actively concerned about Nooroo so now that the Butterfly Kwami is back I'm sure Stompp would want to stay around him. With Sportacus partnering with Nooroo, teaming up Robbie and Stompp made the most sense to them.

Design Notes Incoherent Thoughts I had to justify what I'm Drawing:

Purple and Blue - it amused me no end that with the choices i made blue Sportacus got a purple Kwami and purple Robbie got a blue kwami. I did kinda dislike at first how little blue the costume has in comparison to purple but i decided i don't have to make a decision because apparently the canon show can't make up its mind about Stompp's colour either. The blue and purple can always be swapped if i decide i don't like it

Harness - Ox' are hard working animals, mostly used to pull heavy objects. For that purpose they get strapped into a harness. Obviously i had to include that in this design, the chain hanging from the collar around his neck has a similar purpose (it only occured to me way too late how kinky it looks please ignore that)

Cape? No cape? - because of the imbalance in colours i briefly considered giving him a cape like a Matador would have but only for a second or so. I wanted to keep Robbie's iconic body shape untouched by a bunky cape, also the few times he wore a cape in the show he really struggled with it and also i think it would've clashed with the tail

Tail - speaking of which, an ox' tail has that frizzy end to it but i really liked the chain as his tail so to emulate the thicker part at the end i hung a padlock there. And that really worked. Not only bc that's just how bulls and ox are kept in check with their strength but also because the oblong shape of a combination lock makes for a fitting shape and can be used in universe. You see, Robbie is not that good with just saying what he wants or expressing how he feels. This four letter combination lock is magic and kinda betrays and helps him at the same time. It spells out any given four letter word that fits his mood best at any given moment

Miraculous Nosering - if a Lazytown character would unironically get a nosering, it'd be Robbie. I'm sorry, i don't take criticism on that

Horns - he needed horns. He just did. Look how good he looks with horns! But for real, in Miraculous Ladybug Chat Noir gets actual cat ears so he can get actual horns, also like Chat he the white parts of his eyes turn yellow like Stompp's while keeping his signature grey iris

Hair - ox' are mostly shown with like bangs covering their eyes so i couldn't resist ruffling his usually so perfectly done hair up to make it fall a little like that

Weapon - my first thought of "Miraculous takes cliché traits for animals to base their powers on so i guess bullfighting is the way to go here" made me really sad. This "Sport" is so disgusting i wanted to cry and puke while reading about it. I'll spare you the details but in addition to the Matador in the arena there's other guys too to weaken the bull before the Matador kills it, one of them throws knives. Miraculous Ladybug likes combining weapons with toys so I'm giving him darts. They are fastened to the front of his harness and i think how they can be used is along the lines of, once he zhrows them with his super strength and they pin into something they can only be removed when he allows that, also like the ladybug's jojo they can fly how long and whatever direction he wants, and probably also is able to just manifest them back to himself if ever one gets lost

Miraculous Power - again, just pure speculation here, but the powers we so far know of are all loosely based on an exaggerated cartoon trope of each animal so for the ox that is hard working and persistent and for the bull that'd be aggression and tunnel vision. While typing this i get the urge to add blinders to his mask but i digress. So i made up an exaggerated power that'd fit both but when i told my test group (two people) one said "oh, kinda like Bloodhound from Apex Legends" and the ozher said "so like hunter's mark from DnD" i play neither so i don't know but maybe you do do that's the short version of the explanation xD his power is based on the cartoonish depiction of a bull seeing something that bothers him and then charging at it for as long as he can until he gets it. Once Robbie focuses on an enemy or someone running away or someone he is following for whatever reason he can use his power to keep track of them. No matter how far away they go or where they try to hide. It sounds OP as shit but think of the Snake and Bunny who can both time travel and then say that again. The catch is he needs to use it while that person is still in clear sight for him so i think it balances a little better

Do you know the difference between a Bull and an Ox? Well, let me mansplain it to you anyway

The reason i kept switching between drawing inspiration from bulls and ox' is because it's the same animal. Those are both names for an adult male cow. The only difference being that an ox is castrated and a bull is not. Stompp is the Ox Miraculous so tough nuts Robbie, literally. But making babies isn't really on his to do list anyway with Sportacus as his partner so who cares.

Anyway, I had the design done and like always i struggled a lot with naming it

But then i learned a Bullock is not only a cool word that seems to be a mix of bull and lock like his design is but it also is the official name of a male cow too young to be castrated yet! Isn't that just perfect? I think it is

Also I'll include in this section the phrases one needs to speak to have Stompp transform them into this Ox themed Superhero and for the power to activate. If you think of something more fitting for either please let me know!

Transformation:

simple version - horns up / horns down

More detailed - time to charge / time to loaf

(charging is when a bull starts running blindly at something; loafing is the professional farmer term for a resting cow)

Power: Target Charge, Locked On, or my personal favorite option Head-On. Again going with the more in depth terminology, that's what the running style of a bull is called when he's chatging at a target

Story:

Robbie lived in Lazytown but when the kids grew louder and older and he got more annoyed wih not having his peace and quiet he just up and left. He spent a lot of time traveling around, living wherever it was comfortable and leaving when it wasn't anymore. Thanks to being an inventor and overall talanted crafty person he got by pretty easily as there was always a company running on "hire a lazy person for an important job, they'll find the easiest solution for the most complicated problems" so he never really had to worry.

Whether by coincidence or fate Robbie and Sportacus run into each other and despite Robbie being a little difficult they both immediately feel strangely drawn to one another. With time going by they meet more often, at first more or less by chance but eventually they plan to meet up regularly. They might have very different ways of doing it but they share a common lifestyle: helping out others to live a comfortable and fulfilling life.

Only after Sportacus was chosen to be the new Guardian of the Miracle Box he finally asks Robbie to join him, full time by his side traveling in his airship around the world wherever they may be needed. Of cause only for moral support and such, obviously. You see, they always enjoyed each others company and sort of over time eased into a relationship like coexistence but neither of them ever really acknowledged that. Only when Sportacus got Nooroo's power to sense other people's feelings that barrier of miscommunication fully fell. Robbie is incredibly bad with conveying his emotions but now Sportacus can sense that he has potentially the most powerful and purest emotions he ever encountered. Not only is each feeling of his powerful but when there is more than one at play they don't mix together and muddy each other but instead boost even more. He knew before that he wanted Robbie to join him but that discovery made it a necessity.

Despite not being able to actually say so Robbie is thrilled to come along. Only over time and with a lot of painfully slow conversations they manage to agree to make their relationship official.

Stompp, the sassy Ox Kwami, regularly bursts out of the Miracle Box to want to check on Nooroo and slowly he and Robbie bond over telling Sportacus and Nooroo to go easier on themselves and let a little responsibility get taken off their shoulders so eventually they team up and Bullock is created.

Thanks to Robbie's hard work to better himself with Sportacus' help, Stompp's magic transformation provides him with a tail that conveys his feelings for him.

When they hear that Lazytown has been wiped clean of grown-ups Sportacus immediately flies them over there so Robbie can check on his hometown. Finding only a few children, now teens, left there Robbie recognizes them and the two form the plan to give them Miraculous' too so they can help to find their lost family, friends and neighbors and fight together to bring them back.

hi!! i hope you don't mind this question, but i kind of want some advice? feel free to disregard, though!! i have had gradually increasing pain since i was 10. i used to be able to do 7-8 hours of continuous activity w/dog, but now 30m or even 15 is hard. i relate to a lot of the posts on here. i've seen people say they weren't diagnosed for years and after several doctors, i only tried one and believed them but i'm still so tired. 1/2

i don’t feel pain like normal people, at all. i can even turn it off or minimize it. i stabbed myself deep once on accident and only said ‘ow’ because it was involuntary, but the pain i feel throughout my body cuts through that?? like. i didn’t feel pain from stabbing, but i feel constant bone/muscle pain throughout my body?? i have bumps throughout my arm, do normal people have bumps? i know it’s a diagnostic test for fibrosis, but still, i feel fake?? like i’m abled but lazy. thank you!💜2/2

Hi! I don’t mind at all, so I’m glad you sent it in.

I have had similar experiences, and very much relate to a lot of the thing you are describing. I’ve had increasing pain since I was quite young, and used to be very active. As I grew older, the pain and symptoms grew and it became harder and harder to be active and do the things I used to. I have been burned really badly, or cut etc. and there have been many times where I did not even realize it has happened, or if I did, it barely registered, because the pain was easily covered up by my normal pain. I learned to push away and ignore the pain in order to survive when I was young, and so I often don’t realize the extent of the pain I am going through because my brain will minimize it. 

Now a days I have realized that I am always experiencing the pain - I just am not able to always access that awareness because I ignored/denied it to the point my brain tells me that it’s not there in order to cope with magnitude of it. That may not be the case for you, but that’s what it seems to be for me. 

My muscles are tense and knotted all the time which feel like bumps or masses under the skin, in the muscles.This is very common of people with chronic pain, especially those with fibromyalgia. I also have many cysts through out my body, and depending where they are you can actually feel them through/in the skin (depending on the type of cyst). Some of them are significantly painful, most are just as painful as my base pain level or surrounding area pain level (if that makes sense). I know that there are others with fibromyalgia that experience this as well, but I am not aware of all people with fibromyalgia having cysts, so it could be a comorbid disorder (something that frequently goes hand-in-hand with the condition).

Fibrosis is a distinct, separate symptom/condition, that is a hardening of tissue, and the type of fibrosis depends on what it is affecting (skin, liver, heart, lungs etc.). I’m not sure if you had meant to write fibrosis, or if you had intended to write fibromyalgia. I am not very familiar with fibrosis, so if that was indeed your question, I am unfortunately unable to help you there.

If you were referring to the pressure points used to diagnose fibromyalgia, there are 18 specific spots on the body that when pressed on a person with fibro, it causes them significant pain. To be diagnosed you need to have at least 11 out of the 18 present when examined by the doctor. 

As for feeling fake, I have touched on this before in other answers asks (tagged #am I faking? ) This is a very common concern for most people in this sort of situation. If you are experiencing these things, you are not faking it. End of story. I can’t say if you have fibro, but your experiences are real and valid - whatever might be causing them. Because of the stigma/ableist views our society hold, most people who have “invisible illnesses” like chronic pain/illnesses, mental illnesses, etc. have been made to feel like they must be faking because others can’t see what they are experiencing. And so it gets discredited or invalidated. 

Laziness is a word that gets used a lot to invalidate people who have disabilities. There is a huge difference between not doing something because you aren’t willing to (which is how laziness is defined), and not doing something because it’s not within your abilities/it will have a lasting negative effect. It is also important to point out that not having the motivation to do something (such as in depression where you might have used to like to go out, but you just don’t seem to be able to push yourself to do it no matter how you try), or finding something too overwhelming to do/start (such as with severe anxiety or executive dysfunction) are not the same as laziness, either. 

Most people I know with chronic illnesses are so far from lazy it’s almost funny, because of how much sheer work and willpower they put into just existing day-to-day with all the symptoms/things they go through.

Rose’s Review: If I were a bigger cunt than I already am, I would just download this fic and sent it to A&E and be like “See this? This is what you should have done you bloody fucking wankers instead of going for the laugh!” (I’m not bitter I promise.) This isn’t just amazingly crafted Captain Swan smut, it’s amazingly crafted Captain Swan smut that rips out your heart and makes you weep for Wish!Hook because he’s just so unhappy but so gracious and in love with Emma (all Killians are in love with all Emma’s, let’s just face it). He really could have been bitter but he’s just so accepting and encouraging of Emma and his main verse self that it makes you want to curl in a corner with a bottle of rosé and weep to “White Flag” by Dido. It doesn’t make you cry because it’s angsty, it makes you cry because they just fucking love each other so much and Wish!Hook kinda gets the raw deal because he has no Emma of his own. He arguably doesn’t really exist but you still feel bad because despite the fact he was unhappy that doesn’t mean he didn’t have a good heart. Ugh. Just read it and have feels.

Rose’s Review: Guys, baseball and Killian is my absolute weakness. I’m completely gaga for baseball player Killian. I honestly got a lot of Bull Durham and For the Love of the Game vibes from this (I don’t know if the author watches Kevin Costner baseball movies, but I sure as hell do because those are the only good Kevin Costner movies there are) with a twist of Trouble With the Curve (I love baseball movies, shut up!). This is unfinished and I seriously want to see where BK goes with it because I love it so and the tension between Killian and Emma is just getting started. As for usual, Killian is a hot mess with a heart of gold and Emma is the hard ass who is working to put him in line. There’s only a few chapters to this (and a super awesome smutty one-shot here: [LINK]) but I do love the tenderness displayed between them when they’re just hanging out and watching the Home Shopping Network. BK does an actually incredible job of giving Killian an air of loneliness without bluntly saying he’s a lonely guy during a scene where he’s having a conversation with a telemarketer he’s on friendly terms with. Before you even read Emma’s thoughts on the subject, it really just strikes you that this version of Killian has no meaningful relationships outside of David and Robin. I really hope she revisits it but it’s only five chapters in and I fucking love it.

Walking in a Straight Line by msgenevieve

Author’s Description: It’s one of the oldest stories in the book. Two old friends have a few too many drinks, two old friends share a kiss. Happens all the time, right? But what happens when only one of them actually remembers it?

Rose’s Review: Technically this isn’t finished but where the author left off makes for a decent enough ending. This fic really pulls at you with the sexual tension and angst between Killian and Emma to the point where when they finally happened, I literally cheered in my seat and basically made a scene on the bus I was on. They’re so frustrating in this story and the rest of the cast (especially Mary Margaret and David) are notably agitated by it as well, which makes the ending result very satisfying. I am actually amazed that David and MM were friends with them for so long and just didn’t lock them in a room one day so they would finally just break all the damn tension. Walsh is positively wicked in this fic, knows all of Emma’s weaknesses and plays on them so well that you can’t help but flinch when he all but metaphorically stabs her and twists the knife. Killian is almost as much as an emotional mess as Emma is and the weight of his emotions is crushing, but not to the point where you start to hate Emma (which has happened to me with some fics.) All and all, the ending is worth the amount of emotional torture this fic puts you through.

Noted Features: Soulmates!AU, One Shot

Author’s Description: Emma Swan may believe in magic and curses and fairy tales but she absolutely does not believe in soulmates.

Rose’s Review: I don’t usually read Soulmates!AU, but honestly this barely constitutes as an AU and the soulmates aspect is subtle, which is why I love it so much. The soulmates aspect is not overly played and I would argue meshes well with the whole OUAT True Love mythos. I love the constellation element to the soul marks and the added element of different constellations from different realms. Emma’s reluctance to buy into the soulmates thing is so characteristically her, and her mixed emotions of curiosity, anxiety and reluctance towards Killian’s soul stars is very palpable without being entirely in your face. The tenderness and vulnerability displayed in the final scene between Emma and Killian when she reveals her soul stars is so powerful and well written that it gave this one-shot a real place in my heart and a place among my favorite fics.

The Worst by alchemystique

Author’s Description: His life is so weird, weird weird weird, he used to think it was so cool but who the hell would believe him if he told them David Nolan was his grandfather - oh and also Prince Charming, no, seriously, like, the actual, real life husband of Snow White - and his mom is around here somewhere, probably figuring out the amount of time it takes to break in and sneak past security, or cataloging every emergency exit on campus. Weird.

Rose’s Review: I love everything about this one-shot here. It makes me laugh every time I read it because though it’s a much older Henry which we haven’t seen yet, the voice the author has chosen feels very organic and realistic. His exasperation with everyone, especially with Killian and David, is hilarious. Though Captain Swan is not the real focus here, I really love the depiction of Emma and Killian in this. They seem so comfortable with their relationship and I really love the lack of jealousy on Emma’s end towards all the co-eds and college moms ogling Killian. The ease and comfortability is just so refreshing because it’s Captain Swan and there’s always drama, and the lack of serious drama is a breath of fresh air. The banter is just so natural and loving and Henry’s lack of surprise/what-took-you-so-long-Killian reaction to their engagement is incredibly amusing. The best line: “Oh my god, my mom and Killian are literally True Loves, you actually can’t get any closer to it than those two unless you’re, like, Snow White and Prince Charming, and my mom could kill you with a toothpick for even having dirty thoughts about him”

Rose’s Review: I’m going to admit it, it took me awhile to get into this fic and that’s mainly because I’m a terribly shallow bitch and for some reason huge paragraphs bug me (this is such a minor thing and something that is definitely easy to get over), but regardless I pushed through my bitchiness and actual read it because I love both OUAT and Black Sails, and goddamn. It’s very good fusion of the two worlds and it was fascinating to see a Captain Swan variation where Emma is more of the “moral corruptor” than Killian is and I do love the twist on that. I have to say the character I loved the most is Black Sam, who is just the unsung hero and moral support for everyone in this story. I was like “goddamn, I need this guy on the legit Black Sails show.” I’m more a Vane fan and he isn’t featured as much as Flint and Miranda are, but I could live with that. You really don’t need to watch Black Sails or have that much knowledge of it to fully enjoy this fic, which you definitely will because it’s so action packed. This fic is unfinished and I eagerly await to see what the author does with it.
