#THANK YOU#it is very important to know the pros and cons of different media storage formats. ultimately very little lasts forever.#it is unbelievably important to keep multiple kinds of backups in multiple places lest the worst happen#like from personal experience losing my hard drive well before the 5 year mark (where you might first expect issues) without having backups#u gotta always be fuckin vigilant of backing your crap up in multiple places#cds also do not hold a lot of media which isnt the worst thing ever but worth keeping in mind. this is abt music obv so its not a biggie but#just make sure you have a reliable backup for anything or u might get cooked#optimally 3-2-1 — three reliable backups. two different formats. one held offsite.#(also source on offsite. granparents lost decades of photos and such that were only held in computers that burned in cali fires)#(idk why i phrase things like that. its weird.)#but yeah learn from my mistakes pls#im so desperate for people to learn from my mistakes i was such a dumbass#also its not like cds are kinda known dor getting scratched up and being unusable even when theyve done nothing#cds are sexy as hell but unfortunately not the savior of long term data storage
