March has been a very challenging month for me — from the first 2 weeks where my mom was admitted to the hospital while me & my brother stayed by her side; to my mom passing away later on due to kidney failure. During those times I asked for help & received a lot of doodle commissions. Since the past weeks have been pretty busy and difficult for me & my brother, I've been trying to pace myself so that I could go through them slowly.

hii im suuper late to my own week ik (i'll post the rest of the days from time to time, college applications were a pain </3 but i've got most of it down

This piece is a redraw of my very first post ! This has been a wip since the start of the year so my art style unsurprisingly changed a bunch as i tweaked the lines and colors. it's not the best but it's looking as good as it can be!

as for the zine, people are free to draw up pieces for the week up until the end of september and we can compile it all together! it's not really the usual zine format but who knows.. we can maybe try to figure out a way to formally start a more structured zine project for these two

Anyway! I've decided to dedicate my greenflower week posts to my headcanons I've made up for them from the past 4 years.. I figured you guys could take a peek into my brain since I haven't really been good at that unless you catch me in a vc :") there's a buncha hcs and old ass art i never posted finally unearthing under the cut if you wanna take a peek

So, first thing: Body headcanons..

i took super long getting what i want with this waay back when I started posting cause I was still figuring out a lot with my art. i couldn't get in good details/features that would properly differentiate them or make them fun to draw. I wasn't striving to be really innovative with the designs or anything, I just wanted them to feel like characters I like looking at and thinking about

finally, i'm somewhat able to settle on these as of right now! It will most likely update as the time passes and my art changes, but this is what I got!

basically the main idea is that i wanted Lloyd to be bulkier but sharper. grew up fast and has all these edges, but then you get to know him and he's just a big ol dork. Mostly wears loose-fitting clothes that hides his figure, but he's quite built underneath

Brad's a lil taller and pretty lanky. my art style may not be able to show that properly but lloyd can snap him in half <3 he also seems hella chill but that's probably cause he got balls of steel after living through a million ninjago invasions

This thing below is an old outfit concept I have for a project that I've been working on. does not reflect my current headcanons with his physical appearance but i do like his clothes

I think he loves his role as the green ninja, saving the world and such. it came with lots of baggage and reflection but i do promise that he enjoys it for the most part. I think him wearing green is kind of like wearing work clothes so he tends to avoid it on days when he's free to keep from being too ready to jump into ninja mode

i do tend to keep him in green though cause the fandom sure does love their color-coded ninja

anyway .. that's about most of what i've got for this that looks good enough to post, so here's a bunch of other doodles/sketches, both old and new ToT

Hmm, I think there's a couple of reasons.

They're pretty time consuming to put together. I draw all my sketches on paper, so before I even get to compiling them I have to scan them. And unfortunately my time tends to be pretty limited these days.

Unlike back in prime deviantart era, most people now use their phones to browse tumblr (+other social media), and large images with tons of tiny doodles don't come across that well on small mobile screens. You can always zoom in to get a better look, but since the full piece won't be as eye catching, a lot of people will end up scrolling past it.

I don't know if the situation has changed, but in more than one occasion, when I posted sketch dumps, a few people always seemed to see the unfinished sketches as free real estate and traced over them, essentially treating them as bases for their own work (which was really discouraging, they were my sketches, often depicting my own characters, I was going to use them myself :< )

I'm sort of self-conscious. If the sketch isn't that great I don't want anyone to see it, and if it looks nice I'd rather show you the finished piece instead, you know?

I felt like doing some humanization of Carnival!Gangle from @sm-baby Carnival Au this last week. This is a compilation of multiple doodles I have sent to them so you probably have seen them already, I just wanted to have them all in a single post.

I decided to give a twist to the "anime fan" thing and draw her in traditional Japanese clothing. I decided to use the Hikizuri Komono worn by stage performers (according to my research) as the main reference for the clothing given the role Carnival!Gangle has in this Au.

Okay, I'm weird for being +20 and liking a compilation of pixels created by a Japanese woman who is working with two huge companies that only care about money.

I committed crimes by drawing and shipping my Oc with Ruggie Bucchi and answering an ask in which the ship has fankids... I didn't know that doing that was something like me committing crimes? More ironic are people saying this when they are minors?

And some of them even liking characters +18? Or saying that they want to touch breasts and even rt art of a character with their organs exposed and naked?? Am I really weird? Honestly, who am I in the fandom of such relevance? What does a minor want to tell me by saying that I should have draw Leona's nipples exposed instead of Jack's taking into account that I interpreted the image as a meme, if according to them I am sexualizing the character? Why this minors doing seeing this kind of thing to say that Leona should be there to be sexualized if you're minors? what are you doing????

There's nothing wrong with think a person's attitudes strange due to their concepts, but print the person's blog, posting on your personal account to generate rage isn't right... And I wonder where these people get the courage and morals to demand certain behavior from a person if they don't even possess it themselves. A minor consuming adult content and talking openly about it but insinuating that I'm an adult and somehow weird for having made fankids? Taking advantage of the opportunity to use your favorite character to study anatomy, doodles or silly ship things? Serious? Please just mature and grow up.

I don't need to publish accounts of the people I'd like to mention cause i know do this it's wrong, my post won't change their minds, but I'm completely sure today, after everything I've encountered that I'm definitely not the weird one.

I would like to say that anyone who might go through this, of having a group of people do bad things to you behind your back, don't give up on what you do. This is your account, decent people talk with respect, politeness and can even silence you, put some censorship or block to avoid seeing your content. So don't be intimidated.

Ok, now for the lengthy stuff. :]

Soo, since the toy symbolism of 'A human's Touch' was now in my brain, I thought, "what if I just made HMS toys?"

Then I went and thought more, I don't know whether this could be considered an AU or something. But it is still based upon Haiku and Hidden in the sand, as well as other songs that fit the narrative.

Now I'm going to go on a full on ramble/ deep dive. Or whatever.

So, since it's shown in the animatic that Heart is mostly in control for the start of everything, he's happy, optimistic, affectionate, kind, sees the best in everything and tries to always see things in a wider lens.

Tries to do his best.

But after the trials of dealing with the ups and mostly downs of this new experience, he asks Mind to fill in his shoes, finding the whole thing tiring but still wanting and hoping for everything to go well.

And Mind obliges, trying to mimic Heart's personality, or at least seeing how Heart would react to certain feelings and actions. But it's more observant, seeing the nice and kind nature of this relationship dwindle. And the obvious pit in their vessel grow. Yet Lune pleads to stay. And the two just observe, cautious. Soon enough, it's too much for the emotional side to bear, but he pleads more to continue. Mind knows this isn't good, even Soul knows this isn't good, telling him that they need to leave. It will be good for them all.

Artemis refuses, fearing the thought of being alone. Trying to reason illogical things.

Berry sees through the unsure words of Whole that he isn't the same as he was in the beginning. He changed. Berry begins to leave... but not until they're met with a furious Harmonia.

Heart completely breaks, all the kindness and ever loving emotions turned into anger, yelling at Love interest through his tears.

Then, they're off.

Leaving a weeping Heart, a foggy confused Mind, a petty Soul, and a fearful Whole.

Cycling through this tiring and scary hole.

So yeah, that's the jist of this entire thing.

It's something.

I might compile a bunch of songs that fit with this narrative into a playlist. For fun.

Creature Design: where to begin?

So you want to make cool fantasy creatures or people but you haven't the first clue where to start! I may not be the best at explaining this process because I just sort of come up with an idea and start drawing, my process is very quick and heavily influenced by the fact that I've been drawing since I was a small child and building my fantasy world and stories since I was like twelve. So for me, a lot of this is really intuitive and I don't know how to fully describe each step.

The honest truth people may not want to hear is that you'll get better at figuring out your designs if you just spend a lot of time doing art studies of real things and a lot of time making messy messy sketches from your own mind. take a pile of paper and a cheap pencil and fill those pages with scribbles that vaguely resemble creatures and people. don't worry about making things look nice. you've got to be comfortable with mess.

and I do mean it about the studying. Whether you're going for a cartoon style or a realistic one, it's hard to create new creature designs if you're not familiar with the shape and movement of real animals. trace studies are fine! nothing wrong with it. I do it all the time. gather some photos and trace out the loose shapes as well as the important details, then draw it again without tracing. rinse and repeat. this is how you get better at drawing with variety instead of getting yourself stuck on a handful of things you're confident with.

basic art practices are essential if you want to create unique designs.

but with that little caveat out of the way, let's talk about the creature design process!

step one: well if you want to design anything, you need to start with an idea!

in other words, what are you hoping to accomplish by making a design? is it part of a larger project or just a little one-off idea? do you want to make your own version of a common fantasy creature, or do you want to make something totally new? You don't need to answer every detail right away, but you have to come up with a starting point. For this post, I'm creating a unicorn design. The world I've built has a lot of fantasy people and their cultures are pretty well fleshed out. But I really haven't done much to add unique fantasy animals to the setting! Certainly not any that can actually use magic. and my very first baby ideas about fantasy were so very deeply focused on unicorns, I owe it to my childhood self to have some unicorns in this world.

it's a long post, so the rest is under a cut. Next step is gather references and start doodling.

I decided to go with a deer unicorn because I've already established that my main setting has elk! I did explore the idea of going in the direction of mountain goats or some form of other antelope or gazelle, with a focus only on things native to the americas, but ultimately I went with the deer. However, I don't want these unicorns to just look exactly like any real deer species but with one antler instead of two. I want them to look like their own unique species of deer. By doing study sketches of multiple deer species as well as other animals in the same general category, I get a better sense of the common body and head shapes, how the limbs move, and what I can change to create a unicorn that looks like a deer while still being its own new thing.

step three is to just flesh out the details! ask some questions about your creature. how do they fit in your setting? how do they interact with other living things? what are some details that make them look unique?

Like the unicorns of many real life myths, I've decided these ones use their heightened intelligence and ability to manipulate magic as a way to guard the environment they live in. They're not sapient beings, but those who study magic in the world I've written are very interested in studying how unicorns use magic. Does magic ability grant sapience? or is magic ability gained as a side effect of becoming sapient? it's an important and fascinating question.

Unicorns tend to travel in very small groups and hide among herds of larger deer, using their magic abilities to sense danger and warn the herd of predators. they cannot perform all the effects of people magic, only using their natural behaviors to cause small effects. But their abilities are still quite impressive and tell a lot about the development of magical skills. Their abilities seem to confirm that spoken magic is the most primal form of magic, as they have a complex set of vocalizations that accompany their use of magic.

The effects they can cause seem to include a ripple effect in the air, akin to the heat waves that cause illusions, and a quick flash effect from their antlers, not unlike the glow created by runes. This flash effect is very fast and not terribly bright, but it's enough to startle other animals and hunters who don't expect it. this is perhaps the most intriguing of their abilities, as no people group has figured out how to replicate it. there may be other magical effects and abilities in the uicorn's arsenal, but it's difficult to document or understand them all, especially if some of those effects are more internal and not easily noticed from an outside perspective.

I hope you enjoyed this little design journey! I really did sit down and do the unicorn design today, and I came up with most of the worldbuilding details for it as I was writing this post! I can do this very quickly because I've been doing it for years, so don't be discouraged thinking you're bad at it if it takes you longer. I also could spend a lot more time working on the details and especially figuring out that antler shape and the coloration of its fur, because I am not fully committed to them yet! this is like a first draft.

you might go through several designs for something before you nail down a version that satisfies your goals! you might also get really far in the process and start to hate it and decide to start over. these are normal obstacles! wrestling with your ideas is rough, but it can also lead to more ideas! and the next thing you know, you've got an entire world of complex characters and fictional cultures and you're not really sure how you got there, but by golly are you going to run with it.
