Fat-Shaming

Technically, Pebbles is right here, but I think it's about time he got a taste of his own medicine!

This is technically the first true comic strip I've done... ever, it seems! I've had it in the works for at least a week, and I'm really enjoying how it turned out! It was inspired by a Reddit post I found comparing these two characters, and this silly scene just popped in my head as a result, since that part of the Gourmand campaign where Pebbles makes little side-insults about your weight will never not be amusing to me. Probably requires more context to get than the previous, but I hope you still found it funny!

Also, a headcanon of sorts below, if you want some more serious ideas:

I like the idea that Five Pebbles has a particular disdain for Gourmand, not just because he's the polar opposite in many ways, but because Gourmand represents everything Five Pebbles and the Ancients sought to overcome: indulgence, attachment to the pleasures of life, attachment to family, having low aspirations, accepting your place in life, accepting life in general the way it is.

I also like to think part of it comes from jealousy — this fat, lazy animal barely scratching the surface of civilization is both able to enjoy all the pleasures of life AND ascend whenever he wants, meanwhile the near-godlike supercomputer far more intelligent than this creature could even hope to fathom in a century is stuck just standing there, abandoned by his creators, trying to solve an unsolvable problem while he literally rots away? He'll hardly admit it, but it really does feel quite unfair, if you ask him.

I'm curious to see how my ideas for Five Pebbles evolve over time. As of now, I actually have like, half the campaigns to finish still (did Survivor and Monk, and just about to complete my Gourmand run), so my ideas of his character may not be the most accurate right now. From the glimpses I've gained through fanart and such, there seems to be so much more to the story of the Ancients and their iterators, and it's tragic at that. Needless to say, though I usually don't like tragedy, I'm very curious to see the rest of that story...

Party Time (NSFW): Session 0 FT: Dahyun

Author's note: For this chapter, I will be changing the character perspective of this story slightly. the characters will still be the same however I wanted to try something different. As I learn more I'll probably come up with a much better way of writing the characters and differencing between them.

"Atticus Why are you like this? Look I know you are anxious but you beat my alarm by 4 minutes. I was going to be there."

"But you said you didn't have a character."

"Yeah because I was going to choose based on what everyone else was."

You rub your face before responding, "Dude I just got off work. I don't have the patience for this conversation I'll talk to you in a bit."

"Okay see you soon, and get here safe. As..." Atticus began

"Yeah I know My safety is a priority," you respond

finishing Atticus' statement, and hanging up. "Ahhhh. you groan." knowing you lost the last 4 minutes you get up and start your character. when you start getting deeper into the build your alarm goes off and you begin the rush to get ready. You shower, brush your teeth, and leave to go. Unsurprisingly you are early. Atticus is happy to see you and asks to see your character sheet.

Atticus looks at your character sheet and groans before asking, "Monty...Why is there only a Name and a Class?"

"Well, I figured we could hash out more of the details when it came time, Like what subclass and what race?" You begin. Atticus looks at you annoyed before you qualify the statement with, "I don't want to encroach or step on toes and I know people don't play Monks all that often." You say

Atticus shrugs in understanding, "Okay Fair. How about this then You play the Avatar Race."

"the Avatar race? Never heard of em." You say flatly

Atticus laughs as he explains "Well that's because it's a race I made specifically for this campaign."

"Okay so what's it do?" you ask intrigued to play a new brew of Atticus'

Atticus pulls out a little cheat sheet with the races he had available, "Well it's simple. It's just a generic humanoid in all aspects that is just molded to your character. they gain; +1 to three ability scores, a Feat, A language, and a skill."

"that's a lot." You exclaim

"On paper sure but ultimately not really because those +1s are so marginally good." Atticus elaborates

You roll your eyes before saying"Well if I roll a bunch of odd numbers it's pretty good, or do point buy."

"Oh about that. so to ease everyone into the game we are doing actual character-building with our physical selves. so how good you are at things determines your actual stats." Atticus explains

"Huh?" You ask

"Yeah," Atticus affirms

"That's dumb and I love it Atticus." You say

The door to Atticus's home opens and you hear a tiny voice say "Hey Atticus my Unnies are on their way." you turn around to see Dahyun of Twice. You quickly turn back to Atticus who you look at.

"Hahaha." is Atticus's only response. you blink slowly and turn to face Dahyun.

"Wow like you are way prettier in person," you say to her Seeing her gorgeous face up close and not separated by a distance of several thousands of feet. Dahyun smiles at you with the most adorable smile.

"What are you playing?" Dahyun asks

"Oh I am just playing an Avatar monk, and you" you reply. You notice Atticus smirks and when Dahyun goes to grab his character sheet you shoot him a furious look.

"Oh Changeling Blood Hunter."

you raise your eyebrows surprised and reply, "Impressive." Dahyun was listening intently

Dahyun blushes slightly then smiles and says "Thank you"

"Great my two Chingu are getting along great Atticus says happily

Dahyun looks at you surprised "We are the same age?" you nod. She eases and replies "I thought I'd be the youngest."

"Nope, I believe that is David who is one year younger than us," you answer Dahyun nods and eases into you more. You smile at her and say “Excuse me miss. Are you trying to charm me?”

Dahyun gives you her dazzling eye smile and says, “Maybe I am. What are you going to do about it?” you are taken aback by her boldness. You lift your hands in surrender, which causes Dahyun to laugh heartily.

The door opens again and Dahyun and you jump upon hearing it, taken out of the little world you two found yourself in. You turn to the door to see a young lady with pink hair apologizing profusely “Sorry for scaring you.” she says meekly. Dahyun and you quickly work to attempt to diminish the fears of the young girl as you both wave off her apology citing that you and she should have been paying attention. The girl smiles and hugs Atticus. You tilt your head but say nothing. The young lady then turns to the two of you and says “Hi I'm Jeewon nice to meet you.” Dahyun and you both wave at the girl. When she asks your names

“Mordekai. but everyone calls me Monty,” you say

“Dahyun” Dahyun adds Jeewon smiled brightly as she sat next to the two of you.

"So what are the the two of you playing ?" Jeewon asks brightly

"Avatar Monk," you answer

"Changeling blood hunter." Dahyun follows suit

You clap your hands in approval, "Ooh it gets sexier each time you say it." you say hyping up Dahyun who turns to you and blushes. she hits you and says "Stop it" but her gaze tells you not to stop.

"Are you two dating?" Jeewon asks intrigued.

"Nah we went on one date." You answer. Dahyun looks at you confused.

"Wait...Mountain?" Dahyun says as she realizes who you are. You smirk at Dahyun who smiles at you further. Atticus laughs when he makes the connection that when the two of you did that Rugby tournament a few years back and you said you had a date with a pretty girl was with Dahyun, but before anything else could be said the door opened again and a very bright voice crashed.

"Sorry, I am late. Traffic was really bad" A cheery voice says. As the group turns you see Sana skip into the living room. Sana recognizes you instantly and smiles

"Mordekai! How are you cutie?" Sana says as she envelops you in a clumsy hug.

"I am good noona, how about you?" You reply to Sana

"Oh, you know. being the prettiest in Twice is tough." She said

After that, the rest of the "Party" fills in which includes members from Red Velvet (Irene and Seulgi), one from Twice (Nayeon), and surprisingly one member of Dreamcatcher (Handong). There are also four more guys who show up in this order David, Timothy, Alan, Kento, and Charlie. As more people show up you introduce yourself and appear friendly enough, but for the most part you stick to Dahyun and Atticus (When he's not swooning over Jeewon) as Dahyun speaks the best English and you know her the best. Eventually, Nayeon approaches you and says "Hey so we have a playlist featuring a song dedicated to everyone's character. Do you have anything in mind?

You scour your mind trying to find something but as it goes blank the choice rises from that.

"Power to Tearer." You reply. You notice Kento and Sana look at you as Nayeon nods.

"got it. I'll add it" she says.

Sana slinks over to you, "That's an interesting choice for a Character-inspired song."

"Well I figure this is the only place where it will be appreciated and understood," you reply. Sana smirks.

"You're pretty interesting Monty." Sana coos with a mischievous smirk, that worries you.

After y'all mingled for several minutes Seulgi stepped to the front and said, "Okay now that everyone knows each other partner up and each one of you give backstories for your characters."

you turn to Atticus but when Dahyun claims you as her partner. She seems anxious so you smile and say "Okay" to her.

"So what basic things would you like for me to include?" you ask Dahyun

"I want you to use your best judgment." Dahyun says and you give her a thumbs up and say, "Do you have any idea for a character name?" Dahyun shakes her head before saying just use her name. You nod and when Dahyun asks you the same questions your only response is the name, Montaigne. Dahyun gives you a gummy smile and gives you two thumbs up. you both begin spinning tales about the other as you write. you find yourself connecting with Dahyun more and more as you start looking at her and noticing her little ticks like how she puts her hair in front of her face when she's embarrassed or when she drops something the repeats "Oh mo mo Oh mo mo." It helps you write a more authentic Dahyun (the character)

After you two finish up Seulgi notices and says "OH Dahyun and..." She gestures to you and you give her your name. "Mordenkainen?" Seulgi asks for clarification.

"Mordekai." you clarify Seulgi nods focused and asks for you two to give your partners' backstory. You nod. seeing Dahyun's anxiety you go first.

You stand up in front of the party and muster all the confidence you can," Gather around as I tell you the tale Of Dahyun the Blood Hunter..." You hesitate and turn to Atticus. "Hey, What's the name of the World Again?"

"Daebak" Atticus answers

"Cool." You say to Atticus

"Not Cool, it Daebak" Atticus teases

"The Hero of Sunrise, The King of Beasts, The Sword of Ruin, the Shield of Restoration, The master of Arms, The Gentle Fist, The War God's Instrument, and The Wiziend One are all titles garnered by The warrior Known as Montu. (You blink thrice at her name, but you smile regardless) Forced into the fight at an early age against all kinds of monsters and Mayhem. Montu grew up quickly adapting and finding his style along the way, but he never lost that spark of wonder that drove him to be larger than life. However in those soft eyes and that Joyous personality hides a sadness and a darkness that desires the destruction of all around him who would disturb his "Endless party".He fights, loves, laughs, and Lives for thrills, but is kind and considerate. He surrounds himself with joy and life. He desires the people around him to feel loved and valued, but beware because he will face any odds and destroy any obstacle to win. Proof of this is when he killed 1,000 men in a battle to secure his home from an invading force. He is a man of Duality. A man of Great Honor and equally Great Ruthlessness. He is confusing but what I can say about him is that he is a Legend in the making that lives up to all of his titles." Dahyun says then you assume she repeats the same thing in Korean. Everyone looks at you surprised to hear Dahyun's backstory for you. You thought you were going to be a normal pit fighter but her words inspired you to be more, but that's just who Dahyun was anyway. you got up and hugged her there were woos and hollers but you didn't care you just carried out the hug and smiled at Dahyun before saying thank you to her. The smile you garnered was the softest yet brightest one yet. You sat down as an energetic Nayeon and Charlie got up

Atticus translated the much less intensive Backstories for you, "Nayeon was a farm girl who rose to prominence performing with Sana and Dahyun, Chrom (Charlie) was a Privateer of the Paradisan Crown. Seulgi was a sorcerous whose power awoke after Her parents informed her of an arranged marriage. So on an Impulse, she and her Tutor Irene left the Kingdom of Paradise and worked adventurer jobs to bide their time. The arranged marriage in question was a Plasmid prince named (Timothy) Thordak who was more interested in Courting the powerful Goliath Herd leader named Handong. Handong was currently visiting Paradise to negotiate Peace talks between her nomadic herd and the crown, but also to meet her Friend The Harekin Warlock Sana, who worked with Dahyun and Nayeon. Her pact with The Powerful Archefey led to several chaotic encounters including A wizard student Named Alan (Alan) who was currently working a magic shop with an Orc Artificer named Demyx (David), and a Twin soul Echo Knight and Captain of the Kingdom Guard named Kaido (Kento)." all that was left was Atticus and Jeewon's backstory.

Jeewon stood up nervously and began her account of Achilles’s (Atticus) backstory it wasn't in English but you were able to manage a few pieces like exiled child warrior, on the run, and very powerful. after that Atticus did Jeewon’s and you kinda spaced out as your brain just couldn't take any more information. After that, Alan stood up and said “Now for the test of strength.” we followed him to the garage where several weight stations were set up.

“The rules are simple we are maxing out on lifts today.” Atticus translated for you. You nod but when Alan turns to you and Atticus he says in clear English

“Not you two. You two will “spot” us. You're both set at 18.” Atticus and you looked at each other sad but understanding why. So over the next hour Atticus and you worked to help the others with their test of strength. No surprise that the top ones were Nayeon and Handong for the girls and Kaido and Chrom for the guys. The next test was one you could participate in and was led by Dahyun. it was the test of Wisdom. The test was simple we have a product we know is less than Ideal on release but need to sell it to gain the capital to sell more how do we sell more products? Most of the responses you heard were good. some on the more shady side but still good nonetheless, but a lot of them failed in a very simple manner from your perspective. None of them mentioned lowering the price. The rest of the tests follow this structure and you place well in most so when you get your Ability score distribution you are pleasantly surprised to have all positive scores, but as you looked over everyone else also had higher scores so you don't get too stressed about it. after finishing up basic character design and the like All that's left is to start the game.

I also have my own au related to rain world, and now I will tell you a lot of it. The plot in brief:The developers have already created many different mini-worlds called "campaigns" and placed slugs with different histories, chaoacters and goals for life there. But that wasn't enough for the gods. They became bored with ordinary worlds that follow some kind of rules. Therefore, they hastily created the "Enota campaign" and created almost simultaneously one of their most important and dominant persons in SW — Enota and Fear (he was not called that before, so I will call Whity in this period of time, BUT this is not the canonical name of this character, but only a temporary code name)). They were both immediately told that they existed in a fictional world and that they were created only so that both poor slugs would suffer. And Enota was also given out how pathetic and insignificant he was, and then they threw both slugs into their world. An important clarification: Whity and Enot had not seen each other before, the developers created them separately from all the others so that they would not see each other inadvertently.

Enot did not know how to survive in his world, which is why he spent a lot of effort to survive his first cycle. All this was observed by Whity, which in fact is essentially the soul of Enot, which is imprisoned in his consciousness, into which Enot himself can penetrate only when he is asleep. And so, in a dream, the slugs met and became friends. The developers also informed him about their nature when creating Whity, and also said that if Enot commits at least one sin, it will affect his soul, that is, on Whity itself. He will be in terrible pain and constantly writhing in pain. And knowing all this information from the developers, Whity asked his friend not to commit any sins. The soul was terribly paranoid and did not allow Enot to enter normally and step in. He even forbade slug to pick up a spear in principle, and as a result, to fight in order to banal self-defense.

No matter how hard Enot tried to rid his friend of these sins, there were more and more of them, and at the same time the pain from these sins only became stronger and more unbearable. At this point, a Feeling of Fault appears in the plot. This character is metaphorical, we can say that he does not exist in reality, he is needed so that one can understand the thoughts and feelings of one of the characters, in our case, Enot. That is, it means that only Enot can see Feeling of Fault and talk to him. Because of the fractures in the relationship with Whity, Feeling of Fault began to tell Enot that he was still a loser and a weakling, which only added more oil to the fire and made the whole situation only worse. At some point, a real scandal broke out between Enot and Whity during which they stopped being friends. After that, after a while, Whity was completely consumed by sins, and Enot's Feeling of Fault became especially strong during this period of time. Enot's consciousness, in order to protect him, sharpened Feeling of Fault and began to gradually erase all painful memories associated with Whity. At some point, he completely forgot about his former friend and can be said to have started life with a clean slate. And it would seem that this is a good thing, now Enot has become completely free from the prohibitions of his former friend, and even now no Feeling of Fault will bother him, but... The thirst for blood still remained in him. At first, Enot tried to suppress her and he killed especially only scavengers, because they had caused him too much pain in the past, but over time, Enot's moral compass completely erased and he began killing everyone indiscriminately in rather cruel ways, eager to hear the screams of his victims and taste their torn flesh and meat. Enot-maniac was very strong because he faced enemies every cycle and learned to defeat them. He became so strong that the scavengers, realizing that they could not resist this psychopath in any way, began to hide in secret bunkers underground without proper food, heat and much more. Enot-maniac destroyed the lives of many creatures, and those who miraculously survived were left with many mental injuries. The most revealing of them will be my scavenger character named Cold-blooded Wind. As a child, an Enot-maniac tore off his eye, but he was able to escape, however, this incident affected not only physically, but also mentally (you can learn the details of the Wind's background from ask. Believe me, everything is much worse there than you think. This is the third most tragic character in SW)

It seemed to Enot-maniac that he had reached the top and found his happiness and the meaning of life, but... That's not so. He actually needed companionship and good friends all this time. He began to wish for it as soon as the developers abandoned him to his fate. Throughout his life, Enot has never been able to feel real affection and support from others, and as a result, the murders of Enot-maniac began to get boring. What's the point of killing everyone and everything like that? He had tried all possible methods of murder on his victims anyway, everyone had long ago realized that Enota was a maniac worth being afraid of... A small piece of forgotten memories was able to remind Enot-maniac of the void sea, which Whity once told him about and he headed to it in order to finally find his long-awaited peace. But plunging into it, Enot found himself in a dating simulator. He spent a lot of time in it, and during this time, Enot, communicating with other slugs and not killing anyone, realized that he was wrong. That killing is not an option and that he wants to find friends! That's just how to do it if you can't get out of dating sim? But who said that it is ABSOLUTELY impossible to get out of dms? Remembering what kind of drug addiction an Enot egg could create in a dating simulator, he threw it at one of the buttons in this space and it was swallowed up by a singularity. Then the walls cracked and behind them was the code of all slug campaigns, as well as the code of the dms itself, which was also swallowed up by this black hole. After that, this hole in space and time turned into a portal and sucked Enot into it.He found himself back in his campaign, but now some of the chips from dms are now working in his world (that is, the egg can now create fierce nonsense and drug addiction here if desired), as well as slugs from its campaigns appeared in different parts of his world. The Raccoon has a new chance to start this life from scratch, make friends and find his happiness by ascending into the void sea. First of all, he changed his name to Eve, since the name Raccoon was now associated with his dark past. After meeting the Monk, he realized that there were probably a lot of such popadans in his world, so Inv decides to create his own gang called the "VC Gang" (VC - Void Cats). At the moment, this gang consists of Monk, Survivor, Hunter, Gourmet, their tamed red lizard and Inv himself, who is the leader here.On the way of our friends, there will be many obstacles that will mainly occur due to Fear (as Inv called Whity when they met again), which, due to sins, received quite a lot of power and authority. In order to put obstacles to slugs, he sends a black parasite blob into the real world, which infects a creature nearby that is afraid of Inv, which means that he cannot infect the same Inv friends, because slugcat is obviously not afraid of them. However, other obstacles will be encountered due to Inv's dark past, which he tries to hide from everyone. Scavengers still remember the time when the Enot Maniac raged in their world, and this will have its consequences...

Stuck my I Voted sticker on my stress ball due to the joys of living in a swing state.

Valinari Ziegler (or Nari for short) was a character I played in an Exandria campaign that unfortunately died a few years ago due to scheduling issues. He was a half-elf Shadow Sorcerer who eventually multiclassed into Rogue (when the campaign died he was 6 Sorc/2 Rogue, I probably would have gone either Swashbuckler or Mastermind if I'd gotten to level him up).

When I created him, I had two thoughts in mind: I wanted to do something fun with the Shadow Sorcerer ability that allows them to possibly stabilize at 1 HP when they would otherwise drop to 0, and I wanted to create a character with a vested interest in being in an adventuring party (because I've noticed that a lot of the time people struggle to come up with a reason their characters all want to be in a group). I ended up landing on the idea that he was a former member of the Deastok Myriad who was betrayed and almost killed by another member on the orders of someone higher up (only surviving due to his sorcerous abilities kicking in), but he had no idea who or why. His goal, then, was to make powerful friends and come back to find out why he was killed and get revenge.

Once I started playing him, however, a few things I didn't anticipate happened. First, I made him in Heroforge and inadvertently made him look like the MCU version of Loki (I had already named him after the mythological Loki's children), which prompted a whole bunch of jokes from my group and ended up informing his character a good bit--I'd always planned him to be a smooth talker, but the Loki lean in characterization made me more inclined to embark on stupid plans that bit me in the ass as often as they worked out (this also meant I was the character that pushed the shiny red button more often than not, and it caused me to utter the line "Fuck it, I have poor impulse control and proficiency in CON saves", which is one of my favorite things I've ever said in D&D). Among other things, he managed to con a treasure map from a merchant by exchanging it for a piece of bent metal that he claimed to have come from the Whispered One's stronghold but actually was pilfered from a dead kobold, but he also almost got killed by a fiend that he had threatened thinking that she was imprisoned in a way that she couldn't harm him. The other thing that happened was the classic character development of him initially seeing the other party members as instruments of his revenge but coming to care about them (in particular our party's Druid was very nice to him and, in her player's words, immediately engaged Mom Friend mode upon hearing him refer to her, the person she'd traveled with for two weeks, as his oldest and dearest friend and our Monk was both interested in the way he operated and willing to call him out on his bullshit--they had a really fun dynamic).

Mechanically, Nari is one of the characters I've put the most thought into build-wise, and I had a lot of fun playing him in combat. His build was centered on the spell Shadow Blade combined with the Shadow Sorcerer ability to cast a version of the Darkness spell that only the caster can see through. Throw in sneak attack I was doing a lot of damage. The DM also gave me a magic item that allowed me to teleport in dim light and darkness 3 times a day--it was, however, identical in appearance to MCU Loki's stupid helmet.

I know it feels, well, kind of silly to finish up now, but I do want to thank you for voting. It's by no means the only tool we as people in the US have to express our opinion nor to enact change, but it's certainly one of the lowest effort for the highest impact and it has become bizarrely fraught on online spaces. And so silly ask memes are by far from the only thing I do around elections or in my advocacy; but they are one of them, and I hope to continue doing them for a long time.

Getting to the actual character, I think Nari sounds all around great. "Why is my character here" is perhaps the most important thing you can ask yourself in any story, whether it's D&D or original fiction, and a lot of people don't, so having a character with clear motivations available is not faint praise: it's a sign that you put care and thought in and I think the relationships your character was able to build with others in the party reflect that. I also think the Darkness + sneak attack combo is a really creative and fun multiclass - a lot of my frustration with rogues is that I love a cool assassin in fiction but D&D mechanics explicitly make being a rogue in that archetype almost impossible, and I think you reclaimed that. And I love a big red button pusher. There's hooks! Find them!

Anyway this game and Nari sounds great, and man, I kind of hope for your sake there's a way to revive it.

a/n: how id imagine these lot playing d&d!!! ive only played / ran 5e so forgive me veteran players 😭 again feel free to add / disagree w me it's all in good fun

If MILES doesn't run the game, he plays a warlock for sure. Not because it fits him personality wise but because he wants to be a magic user but also not be held back by it. My man is thinking STRATEGY and takes every opportunity to geek out about the specifics of his abilities. He also definitely has a ridiculously fleshed-out backstory he's kind of too embarrassed to tell anyone about.

Either warlock or the nerd multi-classes and it confuses the hell out of EVERYONE... I feel like he tries a lot of the classes though so warlock is kind of a starting point when he's playing with his spider friends (he defo played fighter or sorcerer in the past)

Miles is the one who gets everyone together though (and jumps through universes to make sure everyone's on time 😭 he will NOT tolerate scheduling issues)

Peter B runs a lot of their games except he used to play 3e or Pathfinder back in the day (nerd...) so Miles is just like... gritting his teeth a little whenever Peter misses a little detail or a skill check. He probably used to play in high school / college I mean come on...

Speaking of Peter B OF COURSE he lets Mayday roll the dice. The entire party could depend on that roll and she's rolling it and everyone is TENSE (And he tries not to let her eat the dice... Tries.)

HOBIE plays a barbarian or rogue. He'd play a barbarian just for the hell of it (sounds cool) and would most definitely carry everyone by total accident because he's like... the only one alive.

Rogue also for the hell of it cause stealing is rebellious and that 😭 Though if he does play a rogue his character becomes one of the most unintentionally complex characters in the game.

Hobie would figure out the entire plot of the adventure completely by accident and Peter just laughs awkwardly and goes "You'll just have to find out next session!" and maybe dies inside (but it's not like he prepares for his sessions anyway 💀)

Absolutely crits at the most ridiculous times and derails the whole campaign because he decided to interrogate a minor political figure and now they're destabilising the region's government instead of fighting dragons

And he accidentally becomes the leader of like the whole village and maybe starts a revolution and Peter is sat there lips pressed together hands pressed together elbows on table like "...I guess that happens then."

Might cheat a little bit. Just a little. Not enough to ruin the campaign but enough to have Peter sweating 💀 A lil strand of web under his dice hurt nobody right? (Those goblins are DEAD dead)

Miles is gob-smacked and definitely a little jealous of him 😭

PAVITR originally wants to play a fighter because that sounds... cool as hell BUT when Miles explains the bard class to him he takes it and runs

I'd say Pavitr is relatively new to the game as are Hobie and Gwen but he hones in on the roleplay (not as seriously as Miles but definitely participates)

Probably leads the group and goes head-first into danger (Miles is literally pissing himself) and his character probably knows loads of languages cause he just conveniently picked a race with very useful languages for the adventure (as per Miles' suggestion)

But he goes out-of-character more than once to go "WTF????" when he doesn't manage to rizz up an NPC and they're have to roll for initiative (attempts to be a pacifist)

The goat when it comes to fights though he plays such a good supporting character and if he were to die everyone would totally be finished 😭🙏

GWEN plays either a monk or a wizard. I feel like she doesn't particularly mind but she plays wizard for a little bit before realising that she doesn't really like the magic stuff? Goes for monk and it's a lot simpler and more fun

More of an observer but is helpful when it comes to investigating areas and carries like EVERY item possible: potions, magical items, 20 rocks for some reason. Bag of holding girlie (like how she holds that trauma she has in real li—)

Has THE coolest weapons. Because her character can't rely on magic she's constantly upgrading or getting new weapons and her unique monk abilities come in handy again when exploring!!!

Totally makes fun of Miles (endearingly!) And maybe points out a plot hole in his backstory and he wants to curl up into a ball and disappear for a good minute (he rethinks his entire character for 2 nights straight)

Has an NPC she would protect with her LIFE. Barmaid at the inn? Anything for you sweetums 😁😁😁 *trips over and dies*

That's all given if they have an actually functional game... It takes them probably about like a year to finish a one-shot adventure

But it is SO worth the memories (albeit very chaotic memories.) Even when they're arguing over a roll (usually Hobie's) or someone's character has literally died they make it work through the power of friendship...! And a broken table

Campaign: A world containing one set of characters where different adventures take place

Dungeon Master / DM: The person who creates the story and runs the game

Skill check: Rolling a die to see if you've passed or failed a certain skill when performing an action (for example charisma when trying to persuade somebody)

Crit: Critical hit. When you roll a 20 on a 20-sided die. You deal loads of damage in a fight basically.

NPC: Non-playable character. Any characters who aren't the players within the universe. Controlled by the DM.

Initiative: The roll you have to make before a fight to decide the order of turns. "Roll initiative" means "you guys are in a fight now!!!! lmao!!!!"

Bonus Content Below: An Ode to an Old Series (Slugcat Marker Doodles)

there was a series i posted on my amino account when i first got into rainworld called slugcat marker doodles. it’s exactly what you think: simple doodles of the slugcats using my different colored markers on white paper. i still have all the pages today, I think. wow. it’s been what, 2 years??

i used to include all the slugcats—not just the vanilla and downpour ones! every campaign they added on raindb i played and drew; spookcat, martyr, wanderer, kingcat, thicc cat, the whole batch. and i had loads of fun—there are dozens of pages and countless memories made.

eventually the series stopped once i posted the last entry (a dump of the rest of the pages), and time passed. i started experimenting, and my style grew and diverged into different ones with varying levels of detail. drawing these on thursday made me remember my roots. and it especially fun drawing the fellas again with my “hypnotizing, shapely, muscle-memory-based goofy sluggie style” i’ve recently acquired.

will the series return in full? i’m not sure. my other doodles recently were just graphite because i don’t (usually) have enough time to use different colors while taking notes. this situation was unique because we were covering something i knew very well so i finished it early. and, this situation surprised me because i tried something new instead. if i do make more, i definitely won’t make the posts super elaborate like how i did originally (which contributed to the end of the series itself).

HIHIHIHIHIU OK YAY OK . ok . im all sleeped up and I'm going to be so insane at you ok . gonna put it under a read more though because . I'm about to be so insane .

SO ! rolling with difficulty , as you can probably tell from the title , is a dnd podcast . mechanics wise , it's on like . the complete opposite side of the spectrum from dndads lmao- they're still very story driven , but they're a lot more crunchy , very following the rules as written but like finding loopholes in them because for funsies . they do little 20 minute bonuses each time the crew levels up so you know exactly what each character is getting and all their new stuff , I actually really like those . the episodes are 3-5 hours long , but each season is only like 10 episodes . and it's not split up into each season is a campaign and it gets very confusing sometimes sbnxjsnxnd like the first campaign (the one I'm autism about) is the first 5 seasons , and they only just finished season 1 od their second campaign . anyways ! most of this stuff is why idk how many dndads listeners will be willing to listen to this but that's ok 👍

NOW !!! as for what its actually about !!! (at least campaign one I'm probably not gonna talk a lot about campaign two) it's about a crew of four silly guys on a space plane ship ! it uses the planescape dnd setting , basically like all the planes of existence in dnd canon exist on different planes that can be traveled between through portals or like the plane shift spell , or , in the cast of our beloved crew , you have a spell jammer , which is a ship that can cast plane shift and you can sail between planes and it's very cool . anyways , the crew consists of kyana - a human monk , finbar - a firbolg (giant kin fae thing) druid/ranger multi-class , VR-LA (pronounced veer-la) - a mechanite/warforged (robot) wizard , and Dani - a fire genasi artificer . the four of them basically live on their ship , the Per Aspera , which is owned by Dani's "Uncle" Otto , who sends them on little jobs and stuff and he's also kind of an asshole but I like him . they also take jobs from other people sometimes and then they forget to go back to Otto who gets pissed at them about it and it's silly . anyways . usually though , the seasons focus on an adventure relevant to one of the characters with other little jobs filling their spare time .

gonna very briefly talk about kyana and finbar just so you know those two before I go on a ridiculous rant about VR LA and Dani ok . so Finbar is just a middle aged firbolg (everyone else is like 20 except VR LA who's only been awake for a year ish) , hes a part of a chef's guild and makes it his responsibility to make sure these idiots don't get themselves killed either by y'know monsters , or just being stupid and forgetting to eat . and he's like 8 feet tall . he's a big guy . Kyana is just a little guy who ran away from her (evil) monk monastery and got found by the crew just . swimming . in the astral sea . which is the void between planes that spell jammers can sail on . insane . anyways . she has no idea what's going on because she's never been anywhere and she is precious and loves the world and loves these people who are nothing like how she was raised and isn't that wonderful ? I love her . and she's like 5'0 . shes literally a little guy <3

now I'm just gonna talk about VR LA bcs he's my little guy and I am spinning him around at record speeds inside my brain <3 his whole thing is basically that his previous crew on the per aspera got Got by a crew of space pirates , and he was the only one left . but then smthin happened and he lost all his memories and couldn't keep the ship like . flying . and eventually he shut down on that ship and was woken up by Dani , who had found the ship and made fixing it up her personal pet project bcs she's a little mechanic who saw a flying wreck and said I can fix her . and she did . and then she also saw the shut down robot on the ship and said I can fix him . and she did . this is how the ship belongs to Otto instead of VR LA , bcs he's like ohhhh Dani fixed it up and she's my employee and you don't even remember anything . anyways . Dani and VR LA are literally siblings to me . icy they're so important to me . the high int low wis siblings . that post I made a bit ago about how dndads doesn't have any characters who are like . little autistic brainiac smartasses . that's these two . both of them . and that is probably most of the reason why I'm so attached to them rn . like I need you to know that I did not recently listen to this podcast . so Dani !!! she was found off the streets by Otto , who owns a little dnd fantasy mechanics shop , and he taught her how to be an artificer . shes incredibly smart , both like . street smarts . and literally anything mechanical . this comes with her being the biggest smartass known to man <3 she's very blunt but also very bad at expressing anything and is the least perceptive person ever (she has a passive perception of 9) she's a bitch and I love her so much <3 she's very snappy and abrasive and aggressive but also the ship is the single most important thing to her and it's not the ship without her crew and that is all she cares about <3 she doesn't give a shit about anything except for the ship she singlehandedly put back together and the people who live in it with her , and she would do anything for them . man . I love her icy .

I love him so much . anyways , the other people on the per aspera are literally the only people he has and the only thing that could come close to them in terms of importance is his old crew , and yet he still picks Kyana and Finbar and Dani over them . man . icy this is a whole thing that I am very extremely ABJDJSNCHSBXHJA about . VR LA is a guy who has no memory of his old life but he knows it happened and he knows he used to have a crew of people he cared about but he can't even remember their names . (at the start) there aren't a lot of things that vr la actually cares about . he's very passive and like I'm staying with this ship because it's all I have even if it's not even legally mine anymore , and I'm staying with Dani because she's the only person I've ever really known . icy they're so siblings to me . ohuufhfggg . however !!! the one other thing he really *wants* is to know about his old life . he wants to know who was important to him before and he wants to know if they're okay even if he doesn't know them . it makes me ill . but he has his crew , and while those people might have been important to the old VR LA , Kyana and Finbar and Dani are important to *now* VR LA . so if it happens that along the way he can find out who he was , hed do anything to find them . but he has his people , and their safety and happiness is the single most important thing to him . if he will not lose a second crew . if hed have to hurt his current crew to find his first , then he's not going to find them . man . icy I could go on about this alone for hours . but I will not . anyways . silly little robot <3 I am so completely normal about him <3

also there's another silly robot named Maxim who you meet in s1 ep7 and I think him and VR LA should kiss . I'm not going to talk a ton about them beyond that but uhhh yeah . extremely repressed adhd sorcerer robot x extremely blunt autism wizard robot <3 Maxim hermit who is extremely emotionally intelligent but is very purposefully stomping out all the emotions because this is a purely professional relationship and we are here to professionally exchange mutually beneficial information and nothing else . VR LA adventurer who has never heard of romantic interest in his year of remembering being alive and just knows that he greatly enjoys Maxims company and he will tell him so despite having only just recently reconnected with him. and their compliments to each other are purely out of professional admiration . anyways .
