Why is everyone forgetting the Glass Legend had to have been a Master to become a Champion??

Contextually, there was the propaganda of levelling up no one BUT Evbo had been able to

So Glass had to have been a Master, had to have been BORN a Master

So why was he the easiest for Evbo to defeat? Why was he significantly worse at parkour than everyone else? Why was he only a Champion for 2 hours?

Crystal specifically says he beat Glass 2 hours after Glass became a Champion, this means that both had to have been masters at the same time

Now, could it be a thing of they both challenged the champion the same day but Glass got there earlier? Maybe. Maybe that's the most likely option

But I'm not here to give up at the most likely option

My theory is that Glass and Crystal were friends. Maybe even best friends.

We've seen that the Master caste system is less about surviving and more about reputation so, in this hypothetical world where you're only as cool as you show yourself to be in front of others, allies must be scare and friends even scarer

So, hypothetically, Glass and Crystal are best friends who train together, practice together, show up every day to get better and better at parkour in general and their specialties; each other being the only person who has seen them fail

However, since most Masters were shown to have wide levels of confidence and egoism, Crystal thought he was better than Glass Maybe even better than the champion

But why would Crystal risk his fabulous life to potentially die because of a parkour champion who ranked just under God

He wouldn't

Until Glass defeated the Champion.

Now, despite all the class induced self-absorbent nature, Crystal wouldn't want to just... defeat his best friend, right?

Maybe

But, if Crystal thinks he's better than Glass at Parkour, then someone else could be better, and that someone else wouldn't care what happens to Glass

And everyone except the noobs knows the Champions controls what happens

So, maybe, Crystal thought that if he defeated Glass as the better parkour master, then he could prevent Glass from dying and also being defeated by someone else

Two hours later, Crystal challenges Glass

And is getting his ass kicked

Because while Crystal was better at technical parkour, Glass was better with his specialty and continuously made more and more difficult parkour using glass that Crystal did not have much of

Crystal starts losing, starts running out of blocks, out of ideas, out of time.

And Glass knows this...

Glass was suppose to win.

....but he didn't.

He chose not to.

Glass was raised in an environment where its yourself first, its your reputation first, but he was fighting his best friend... the only person who has ever seen him fail, the only person who didn't leave him, didn't mock him for all these failures

Glass didn't want his best friend to die. He didn't want to be so selfish of a title he'd have to fight for--kill for--because he was so selfish to let his friend lose.

So Glass purposely fails. Over and over again until, finally, he slipped off.

Glass had lost.

Crystal was the new champion. And he felt so guilty for it "but why would crystal be so mean?"

Because, as Ice explained, the people Evbo were battling were only remnants of the real Legends, who all died long ago

Of course Glass, who was only champion for 2 hours, would be significantly worse at parkour in his remnant state He failed on purpose to protect his friend

Of course Crystal, who survived, would be cruel to Glass; Masters were shaped to be cruel, and this grief might've been corrupted to something akin to sarcasm, hatred, just... unable to remember anything but his victory over a failure of a champion

Because legends are word of mouth stories; they don't capture everything that was said and done.

And why would you be honest you've only gotten your title because someone took pity on you.

In conclusion; the inherit oppressive nature of the Masters class and reputation caused a rift between two best friends, and now their remnants are lost to this friendship because their legends were written with only half the truth.

when gojo met you he wasn't anticipating a normal human that doesn't use curse energy and with your personality he grew overprotective of you as you just so soft and he just felt like you need a protector, so here he is!

he flirts with every chance he gets, annoying others as they think you're too good for him but he doesn't care about their opinion and continue to flirt and make you flustered.

he would try to get you to quit your job at jujutsu high in subtle ways as he thinks you shouldn't be in a dangerous place like this and should be home; specifically his home where he can protect you and love you.

he easily manipulates you into a relationship both cause he loves you and so that he can keep you closer than before when you two weren't in a relationship.

the kids love you and think of you as a parent figure whether they have one or not which helps gojo when making excuses so that he can spend time with you.

he doesn't mind sharing for now but when he decides you should be brought to both of your home permanently so that he could keep you safe from the dangers of being associated with the jujutsu school.

megumi:

when he met you he was not expecting someone that didn't have a ounce of curse energy working at jujutsu high as a teacher.

he grew overprotective of you as he get's to know you as time passes. you always help him after his missions by patching him up if he were to get injured by some curses.

he sometimes get injured on purpose just so you could care for him even if he could've easily exorcise the curse without getting hurt.

when he summons his curse dogs when he doesn't need to have them fight or track a curse it's usually because you like to see them which means more time spent with him even if you don't give affection to him specifically.

he makes sure to help you when he can whenever he's not on missions which is sadly for him a lot since gojo likes to give him his missions instead of doing it himself.

though gojo found out about his crush on you and decided to help and be his wingman even though megumi protested to him that he doesn't want gojo's help with this; which gojo doesn't seem to hear as he does help with megumi crush on you.

he plans on making sure you won't face the horrors of curse and to keep you safe after he takes you to both of your soon to be home, as he doesn't want you to be hurt or killed by curses or any enemy curse users.

yuta:

(i decided to do the yuta before he went to africa as that personality seems the easiest for me to do, sorry to anyone wanting his personality after he returns, i'll try to mesh it for this though!)

yuta met you soon after he joined jujutsu high, he was surprised when he come to find out that you hold no curse energy at all even though you worked at jujutsu high.

he was so timid when he first got to know you which you found adorable and teased him a tiny bit in a lighthearted manner which makes him flustered

he always helps when he can whenever he isn't training before he starts going on missions and such.

after he starts going on missions he buys you souvenirs, he says it's out of appreciation but really it's to secretly court you and get you to like him more.

gojo sees his efforts and gives his thoughts on how to woo you, which didn't help as they were all really bold and something he wouldn't do, so he got help from maki as she knew you longer and knew what you liked.

he confessed to you without realizing it in front of the others and you and when he did finally realize it was too late to backtrack and rephrase as you already heard it. you recuperated his feelings so you two became a couple.

even though he didn't want to he had to, after the fight between geto and him he soon went to africa to train so that he could protect you, he didn't want to part from you but knew he had to in order to get stronger. in the past he wasn't as possessive as he was when he got back from africa but considering what happened while he was gone he grew possessive and overprotective so expect to be taken to a secret house that he got just to make sure you won't get in trouble and get hurt.

alright, let's keep moving with that DCEU watch bc i have the time today. time for David F. Sandberg's Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023). here's to hoping this has retained the spirit and heart of the original and improved the superhero aspects because they were the worst part of Shazam! (2019).

i've been trying to get a more accurate video player setup working for like 2 hours, i was using basically stock MPC-BE for the most part but some of the images looked a little soft to me even compared to something basic like a VLC (which i only really keep for its subtitle downloading feature bc it's the easiest to use, and tbh it could've been using sharpening filters, i didn't really check) and Potplayer (which is the only way i can get two subtitles to display simultaneously for media with multiple subs like fansubs or different translations or something, and also it's got like pretty good video output). i tried to look into MPV and the amount of work and scripts everyone was recommending kind of broke me, so i'm just using like the base form of mpv.net bc it's got a GUI, with like GPU decoding turned on which was the one common thing everyone recommended from my research.

hopefully this is better image quality then like standard VLC stuff and my previous MPC-BE setup though i obviously haven't sat through entire movies to compare frame by frame, so beware that if i say anything about the visuals it might not be the most accurate. MPV is supposed to be the most accurate and flexible option around but i don't know how much futzing around people do with it and there's a lot of like upscaling and downscaling scripts for no fucking reason, which is kind of antithetical to the entire point of accuracy to me, but it's fine. i'm just sticking to the base options and hoping it's good and better than what i had. the image does look just a tad sharper to me than in VLC and MPC so i don't know if they have sharpening filters on or something, but this is like the most base form with nothing changed (except the subtitle font) so i cannot imagine they are messing with the video signal with too much filtering. i tried to look into madVR and MPC-HC and got them installed and almost lost my mind trying to get it set up bc there's no real guides anywhere so don't fucking tell me to go look up madVR bc i will kill you. maybe some other day when i have 15 hours to dedicate to going through forums to try to find something that works for me and get enough knowledge to understand what the fuck everybody's talking about, maybe i'll check it out. i cannot believe there's not like some fucking guide for some anime noob because you know those anime people are on the cutting edge of video tech and playback for accuracy, that there's not some fucking guide for people that don't know what they're doing. i mean it's not that i don't know what i'm doing, it's that there's so much fucking shit to sort through that it would be nice if somebody narrowed it down for me. there's nothing even on YouTube or like some shitty github page or an old reddit comment or something, trust me i've like checked fucking everywhere i could think of but if i missed something, please feel free to link it somewhere in the comments or something, i don't know.

anyway, that is entirely an aside, that's just a forewarning that if i do say something about the visuals and you think it's not accurate to what the movie looks like or is not properly representative of the movie, feel free to take it with a grain of salt. i'm trying out something new.

Your post about Liu Kang and Smoke, along with the ask about whether Smoke could end up becoming a traitor spurred a lot of thoughts for me, so I wanted to share.

Obviously there's the question of why Liu Kang had to make it so that Tomas's family ended up getting killed, and I wondered if maybe the reason Liu Kang did it was to prevent his old backstory, where he's sacrificed by a cult and transformed into an Enenra, from happening in his New Era. If Tomas becoming Enenra was a big enough detriment that it would impede Liu Kang's vision for peace, maybe he decided that killing Tomas's family would have been the lesser evil, even if he knows it's still a cruel thing to do. Maybe that's why he had the old Grandmaster adopt Tomas into the Lin Kuei, to ensure Tomas still had a family and wasn't completely alone.

It still doesn't explain Liu Kang's complete lack of acknowledgement of Tomas in the story mode, but it was an idea I had.

It is certainly disappointing that Tomas is so sidelined in the MK1 story mode that you could completely cut him out of it and nothing would actually change, but I think the reason why NRS decided to add him into this game, besides fans wanting him back (his human form, at least) after being absent since MK9, is because they have plans for his character that are supposed to happen LATER down the line, and they wanted to make sure he had a proper introduction early on. There are intro dialogues that allude to Tomas having had visions of "Enenra" and while this could just be nods to his past backstory and nothing more, I think it could also function as foreshadowing.

I think that now that NRS has the chance to retell some of the old stories in a more cinematic way, they might be aiming to have Tomas become Enenra DURING the course of the new timeline rather than it having already happened in his background. And with him becoming Enenra it could provoke a lot of different ways for him to turn on Kuai Liang and Liu Kang. Maybe he blames them both for the deaths of his family and his own transformation into a demon? Maybe becoming Enenra makes him more susceptible to his darker impulses and that's why he turns? Maybe Bi-Han has transformed into Noob Saibot at this point and they decide to team up, thus the return of Noob-Smoke from Deception? There's a lot of ways it could go!

And if it did happen, it would obviously be a devastating blow, to Kuai Liang because now he's lost another brother, and to possibly Liu Kang as well, if he allowed something terrible to happen in order to prevent Tomas from becoming Enenra, only for that event to STILL come to pass.

Anyways, that's just some of my thoughts that were inspired by yours.

Your theory about Liu Kang trying to avoid the dark ritual giving birth to Enenra sounds reasonable and fitting to what we know about him. As a Keeper of Time, he was forced to make some hard choices in regard to people’s lives - especially the most “problematic” ones from the previous timeline, while at the same time he is not the flawless, all-knowing god. He has his bias and his favorites, however no matter how questionable some of his decisions seem to us, the fact that Liu Kang outright didn’t eliminate anyone from his universe suggests his actions weren’t dictated by spite, seeking revenge or even about taking the easiest path to achieve the desired results. It may not be so oblivious when it comes to Shang Tsung or Quan Chi when Shao Kahn get a chance to raise in power and be again an important figure in Edenian politics - and really, isn’t it a silly idea to expect new incarnations of characters to redeem themselves from the past sins that weren’t their doing? - or why Kuai Liang was given fire instead of ice powers (though for that one I have my theory) but generally speaking, I do believe in Liu Kang’s sincere intentions - even if those may be born from flawed reasons[1].

This is why I think, there is possibility that Tomas’ family wasn’t meant to die and it was just an unfortunate coincidence that Lin Kuei warriors acted so ruthlessly - what could explain  the Grandmaster’s guilt, not only for orphaning an innocent child but also for failing Fire Lord, if the man ever explained why he intended for making Tomas a Lin Kuei or at least why it would be better to adopt the boy into clan than, for example, seek his closest alive biological relatives, as he could still have loving family living in Prague/Czech Republic (though I suspect it could be the issue of keeping the existence of Lin Kuei a secret). Similarly, Shao Kahn was born as a sickly child whose father decided to shape anyway into a formidable soldier 

Born into a proud military family, Shao was expected to become a soldier. But he was a sickly child who, though brilliant and eager, had an infirm body. Shao's disability infuriated his father. He dismissed his son's physicians and designed an extreme program to build his son's strength and endurance. Years of toil molded Shao into a physical colossus and forged within him an iron will. And as his father promised, Shao became the perfect soldier. [...]

which raises a question: how much of original Liu Kang’s plans in fact were prevented or changed by the actions and choices of mere mortals? 

There is a reason why we say the road to hell is paved with good intentions and so final results may be diametrically different from what Liu Kang intended, but I’m willing to give him some benefit of doubt in regard to the fate of Tomas’ family, especially since we can’t cross out the possibility that Kronika’s countless erased timelines left their mark on time’s fabric and Liu Kang needed sacrifice some threads to keep realms working at their best and/or to avoid much dangerous weave of events. 

(At the same time, in previous timelines Enenra did not cause in general any trouble, as Tomas simply did not remember anything from his past. With exception for the attack on people who kidnapped and sacrificed the boy and Tomas’ resurrection as an evil wraith, Enenra doesn’t seem to matter in the grand scheme of things. The logical question is: why not just erase  the demon from the timeline or alter its nature, if its existence could pose a great threat? But then, we do not know how Keeper of Time's powers really work and how erasing one thing will affect the whole universe, so again, I'm willing to give Liu Kang some benefit of doubt.)  

No matter how unimportant Tomas was, I’m very glad that Smoke was introduced in the first part of reboot. Seeing him as a part of Lin Kuei was a great thing after so many years and you are right, there are plenty of possibilities Netherrealm Studio may write him in the future and only time will reveal, if all those mentions of Enenra were meant to foreshadow the upcoming changes or were there simply to tease old fans. Mortal Kombat 1 in that regard is frustrating, as this is our sole introduction to the new timeline and the game needed to lay out the ground for character relationships and set up the alliances for future conflicts - and who knows? Maybe the upcoming games will change our perception of this part?

I would like to see a new take on "Noob-Smoke" relationship, as Bi-Han and Tomas have a lot to offer, both as individual characters and as a teamwork - but for that to happen NRS must stop sideling them like it notoriously happened in previous games.

(I would love even more for Lin Kuei brothers to be happy and on good terms, but this is Mortal Kombat and it has bad track of giving any Lin Kuei character anything good for too long...)

Frankly, I wouldn’t mind either if Liu Kang will be more challenged about his role of Keeper of Time in actual story mode by other characters beside the main “evil ones”. And when I say that, I don’t mean him being bashed. I want the confrontation only to give us a better idea how much it cost him to be the Keeper of Time. To wait literal eons to meet people who were his friends, allies, lover and knowing he will never again have the same relationship with them. That to make the realms a better place he needed to sacrifice the happiness of people he knows and care about and live with the guilt. I want this character study because Liu Kang won the ultimate power but he lost everyone and everything else.

[1] Admittedly, I’m judging Liu Kang by my personal standards when it comes to his understanding of duty, which for me is especially about his acceptance of two similar systems of servitudes - Lin Kuei and Umgadi - that serve the “greater good” however at the expense of people who are enrolled into this servitude since literal childhood. And yes, duty is both important and demands putting the well-being of the group (realm) above your own personal happiness but it should be a conscious choice, not a result of straight up indoctrination but then again, Liu Kang too was trained since childhood for the Mortal Kombat so his sense of duty may be skewered to begin with, but I guess this is a matter to discuss for other time.

Weird car things that seem like common sense but maybe kind of aren’t?

So, even very experienced mechanics still come into a parts store and are like “I have no idea what this is but it still needs to be fixed” so never be ashamed to say you don’t know.

If you take only one picture of the part and bring that in, i automatically dislike you because you as a customer need to actually be able to assess that the thing you are buying is the thing you need. I’m basically going off of your words and the part picture in the system.

I personally can automatically (pun intended) see that you brought in an upper or lower control arm, a fuel pump, a starter or alternator, a tie rod end… I literally cannot find the EXACT PART unless I know what year make and model you’re looking for. Please for the love of god actually give us the year first so that we actually remember what you said you wanted.

Ladies who know nothing but have lots of questions are honestly my absolute favorite. Like, I get it, you were never interested and no one ever taught you, but now it’s suddenly keeping your from getting to work. I gotchu fam.

Ladies that get sent to pick up stuff: holy Christ on a stick, I feel for you, you were given zero information, you already have zero knowledge, any questions I ask you will absolutely not have the answers to and on top of that you look so fucking helpless and I can tell it grates o you but you’re THERE and you have ONE JOB even though you might get yelled at later and honestly that’s admirable.

If you’re getting asked a lot “is this it?” Or “is this everything?” Or even “no mas?” It means that you are, specifically, an annoying fuck wit and I would very much like to bash your face in lbecause you just made me make eight separate trips to the back for eight separate parts and honestly giving you a dose of pepper spray seems like the quickest way to make you “not my problem” but that’s heavily frowned upon I hear.

Lots and lots of people make life easier for themselves and decide to google shit before they even get to the counter. I am absolutely going to google shit in front of you like you’re a dadgum noob. Is it really actually helpful with the older crowd? Yes. Is it appropriately humbling to people my own age? Yes.

Basically, any time you need to buy a part from an auto store, come in with your VIN (take a picture of it off the engine, have the registration, insurance or title, literally doesn’t matter which, we can find a way,)

Also the easiest parts to install/replace are most kind of sensors (o2 usually, pay attention to upper or lower) pay attention to upper and lower radiator hoses, light bulbs (finger oil ruins the whole bulb so get gloves when you replace them)

Coolant doesn’t matter much but googling it before hand will help me a lot…

Do you have any tips for drawing? I just bought me a iPad with an Apple Pencil and I wanted to start drawing digital. I use a app call procreate

If you already draw on paper, try to set the Ipad in similar position to the one you use while drawing on paper. Makes it easier to adapt from one media to the other.

If you are just starting to draw period; look for tutorials, specially on art fundamentals and anything focused on Procreate to get started. Depending on what you're looking for doing the most (if it's comics, paintings or something else), search for tutorials focused on that too. There's a lot of thoughts that goes into different types of art.

Line of action and gesture drawings are your best friends to avoid stiff looking drawings and personally the easiest of the "advanced artist" studies that an absolute noob can start with I think.

The art resource and art help tags here on tumblr are awesome for you to follow and just be bombarded with cool tutorials without having to search for them! Like, seriously I think I learned so much little fun things just because of posts like that popping in my dash out of nowhere :v

Draw stuff that you like! Specially before or after (or even during) studies!! Studying to get better IS TIRING AND BORING AND SCARY! But when you draw the things you always wanted to draw it's such a confidence booster asjdopasdjoa so yeah, be self indulgent, it helps keep your motivation!

Lastly, don't fixate on artstyles or the feel that you aren't growing or even like, internet attention. I promise, those are not that important. Style comes with time, you never stop learning and gosh, with the way social media works nowadays is best if you don't pay attention to numbers at all.

The past week had been great. A little too great even, the 3 of you had hung out in and out of Yunjin's house. However, there was this feeling.

The kind of feeling you get when a storm is on the horizon. Or better, the feeling that a clock is ticking down the minutes till something takes a turn for the worst.

The 3 of you were walking down the streets of Seoul. There was no reason why, you guys had just wanted to get out of the house for a little bit.

"Man its hot." Yunjin said fanning herself. "I know, ugh I feel like an ice cube thats been left out in the sun." You said joining Yunjin in her complaints.

"Y'know what we should do?" Soobin chimes, " We should go to an arcade. I mean I've heard Seoul has some pretty awesome arcades."

You knew this Soobin had been wanting to go to an Arcade for the longest time. He had always showed Beomgyu & you all the arcades he'd saved on Yelp. Sometimes he reminded you of your mom, he reminded you of her personality, that is.

"Yea, I haven't played a claw machine in so long!" You said trying to convince Yunjin. "As long as I get an icee I'll be good to go." She smiled taking your hand and leading you to an arcade. Soobin following feeling a tinge of jealousy.

Yunjin laughed at your misfortune. You had been on ur last few tokens and stupidly used them on the worst claw machine in the arcade.

"I told you it was a waste." Soobin said, "Which one werre you aiming for?" He asks, digging in his pocket for tokens.

"The Squirtle plush..." You say sighing as you step to the side. He puts the tokens in and the machine starts back up. With ease he gets you the squirtle plush.

"YOU SAID IT WAS THE WORST MACHINE IN THE ARCADE!?" You exclaimed. "It is, thats why a noob such as yourself would have never neen able to get even the easiest of toys." He smirked.

Not long after that the 3 of you left the aracade and realized how much time had actually passed.

Your phone buzzed.

You sighed.

"Yunjin how much do you have on you?" You ask going for your wallet . "Why?" Yunjin asks. "Seo-Jun needs me to bail him out." You say.

"What are you serious!?" Yunjin says. "Yes." You sigh. "And your actually gonna do what he says?" Yunjin asks.

"No. Heh, I'm done with his bullshit. So I'm gonna do something else. Just give me your money. This isn't to bail him out." Yunjin hand you 50 and you count the money.

"Is Y/N this scary when she's out for someone?" Soobin whispers to Yunjin. "Oh hell yeah. Are you kidding? She's the queen of revenge. Seo-Jun's her toxic ex and for the past 3 years she's done nothing about it. Guess she's finally had enough." Yunjin folded her arms and the 3 of you head to the police station.

You swing the door open. You've done nothing to defend yourself from Seo-Jun, mainly because a piece of you still laid with him. But now, now was a whole different story.

"Hi, I'm here to bail Kim Seo-Jun out." You say. "Alright we'll being him out and then you can pay his bail. We won't release him from his cuffs tilll you pay his bail." The polic officer at the desk says.

A 2nd Officer brings Seo-Jun out. "I knew you'd do the right thing Y/N." He chuckles. You pay his bail. They release him from his cuffs.

"I'd like to report someone." You say. "Oh? And who are you reporting today?" The officer at the desk says readying his notpad.

"Kim Seo-Jun for Underage Drinking, Sexual Assult, and Theft." You finish, looking Seo-Jun in the eyes all the while. "These are some pretty serious charges ma'am. Do you at all have evidence to back up these claims?" He asks noticing the growing tension in the room.

"Why yes I do. I can hand you a list of numbers to question, email you a whole photo album of him consuming UNGODLY amounts of alchol, as well as contact his MOTHER to bring the footage she's had to cover up forever because, her son is an ASSWIPE who can't seem to know when to stop asking mommy to cover up his mistakes and take ownership LIKE AN ADULT." You finish with a smirk.

"Jesus Christ Y/N! I ask you to do one thing and ya can't even do that without fucking it up!" Seo-Jun yells as he gets in your face.

Soobin, with all his being, wants to push Seo-Jun back make sure he keeps his distance. But he wants you around him, and you staying around means him learning to let go of the need to shelter you.

"Are you done?" You say coldly. Seo-Jun opens his mouth to say something but you interupt him. "Good, because I honestly don't have the patience to deal with your narcissism. So let's get him back in those cuffs and put him that cold cell where he belongs." You say with a smile.

The officers are a little stunned but they ask you to provide them with evidence. You gladly doing so. In no time they have him back in his cell and call his mom.

For the first time you meet Seo-Jun's mom when she walks kn the door. Her hair silky black and her face is timeless.

"Who's Y/N?" She asks. You stand up expecting her to attempt to rip you apart like Seo-Jun might. "Thank you." She says blatantly, putting her hand out for you to shake.

"What? Why?" You say stunned by her words. "My son is entitled, selfish, and worst of all he's an excellent manipulator. I'm sorry for any trouble he's caused you and all charges will be taken serioisly. What exactly is your connection to my son?" She asks.

"I'm one of his ex's." You say bashfully. Her eyes widen and she frantically apologizes for her son and for the fact that they were never properly introduced.

She thanks you again and insists to pay for the taxi home.

On the ride back home, its silent. Yunjin's fast asleep on your shoulder. "You were relly cool back there." Soobin softly says. "Really? I just kinda had a loaded gun I finally was able to use." You reply.

"Well he got what he deserved." Soobin says. "Thanks for letting me handle it on my own. I saw you wanting to step in. I appreciate that you didn't." You smile.

A moment of silence followed by both of you looking out your windows while holding one another's hand. This boy would be the death of you.

sat down recently to power through pokemon violet [laptop was in for repairs].

i think so many months out from its release and with a lot of the buzz around it died down i can settle on a lot more coherent of an opinion on it. and that opinion is that scarlet and violet are at their best when its doing things to actually encourage exploration of the environment. theres some really fascinating lil mini areas here and there with a solid atmosphere one can just indulge in as they scrounge in the dirt for interesting pokemon.

it certainly makes battles more tedious then ever however since without the constrained angles and forced camera perspectives of the pocket battle dimension the spectacle doesnt hit that hard and without that spectacle how much time each battle takes up becomes ever more rapidly apparent from playing out animations to loading up battles [its not quite that bad but it is noticeably longer compared to the 'hayday' of pokemons inception where battles load in split seconds]. it breaks up the pace too much effectively.

and the performance does bite it quite badly in certain spots regardless of what ya do, which does unavoidably hamper things.

as for gameplay, well i haven't quite gotten to the very end of things i will note [for anyone who hasn't already figured this out anyways] that the most natural way of doing the whole thing is in my opinion just tackling whichever titan/don/gym is closest from your starting pick until ya hit a roadblock. the upgrades you aquire from doing so come at a natural pace that way as does the level curve.

as for each of the 'individual' [as i would honestly say the game was more so geared for doing everything at once] paths though

victory road: the easiest of the god damn paths and clearly geared towards being your first path/the most noob friendly. the last gym leader is nearly ten levels lower across all of his pokemon then the last titan or don. the gym challenges themselves range from insipidly easy, to this is literally just a gauntlet, to actually kinda fun and interesting [the normal gym challenge being the highlight honestly]. as for this crop of gym leaders can't say im a fan either, they arent bad they just dont elicit much interest from me.

legendary titans: the middle difficulty path where the only challenge is if your pokemon are leveled enough to not immediately die. if your at or just a lil below parity with em, the titan fights can be pretty fun but if your hitting well above their level they quickly become a joke. it needed something more then just the titan fights as the pokemon themselves are literally just out in the open and marked on your map even when they change positions. there needed to be some sort of minigame where ya wrangle them down before you can actually fight them, then we'd be getting somewhere.

operation starfall: the most difficult path, the dons tend to be higher level then the local gym leaders as noted before, and their god damn super cars are tougher then the titan pokemon on the whole even packing some nasty strategies behind them [with the best soundtrack for their fights by far compared to the other paths]. would be the highlight of things if not for the fact that the lead up to them is pretty boring and completely toothless. eri kicked my ass [in part because of my own lazy strategies and a team makeup that was particularly vulnerable to her] a couple of times but the slugfest with her goons was a leisurely stroll by comparison. i think operation starfall would have been a shineout example in the game [and possibly worth the price of admission alone] had the challenges before each don fight been both more varied and more challenging/active in participation. say with atticus ya have to sneak through his base like a ninja before ya can fight him, well with eri its a battle gauntlet with no rests against tough pokemon to mimic the 'mountain climb' the game has ya do.

and as for story

victory road: well im not thrilled on the gym leaders and the elite four ya get hints of before hand [i do appreciate seeing the elite four before challenging them atleast], i like nemona quite a lot as a rival striking the right balance of friendly but still competitive a lot of other friendly rivals completely miss the boat on. he enthusiasms just kinda infectious really. and the goku memes do help brighten my opinion on her. because they are absolutely true.

legendary titans: the most emotional i got was with arven and the dog, and i can fully admit thats because it speaks more to my own experiences then arvens strained relation with his dad. arven himself just feels a bit to awkwardly written for me to fully get onboard with myself, like i like him well enough but more so despite of the writing rather then because of it.

operation starfall: well the battles might have been the best, the story definitely feels the weakest and its frustrating to feel that way about it. like its clear what they wanna do there, what themes they wanna tackle about bullying and how it can be more complicated then adults make it out to be, and on not judging people on appearances or eccentric behaviour, themes that are good to teach kids in general, and all that. i dont even dislike the dons themselves. its just... i can feel the writers hand at work here demanding i feel sympathy for these people and that just makes me wanna dig my heels in on the matter and say 'no i will not blindly awe at the sap story your putting on here'. not helped by penny's motives for wanting to break up the thing she started feeling confused [though i can admit thats probably part of the point] but more importantly so underwritten. in fact she just feels the most underwritten of the three of them [arven, nemona and penny] in general which probably isn't helping the emotional impact of it.

might follow up on this once i polish the very ends of the game off.

Haha, I honestly rarely get bit by the shipping bug. And if I do, it's always for canon relationships. The earliest I can think of is Aang and Katara.

A10: Who did you have your first fanfic-related conversation with? What was it about?

Ooooh, here's a short story-time.

I answered in another ask that the first fanfic I read was a Harry Potter fic. Well, that fic was introduced to me by my two best friends. We called ourselves Chocolate, Chip, and Cookie back then (I was Cookie 😋)

We talked about what we liked/disliked about the story and how certain scenes fit/didn't fit with the main canon. It was so fun that the three of us decided to try our hands at writing a fic. Chocolate had the best handwriting, so she was the scribe. Chip was the biggest Potterhead, so she was our fact-checker. And I... I was the fanfic noob, so I was just along for the ride. We came up with a story about the Marauders at Hogwarts and we shared it with the other fans in our class to humble success. That was years ago, and we never posted the story online, so the only copy is still over at Chocolate's house somewhere.

And that's the story of the first fanfic I ever worked on.

B3: What’s the best device to read on (phone, laptop, tablet…)? Why?

If you asked me in high school, I would say phone because it's the easiest to hide under the blankets when you're pretending to be asleep. Today I say laptop because it's more convenient to open tabs in case you want to save a story for later and it's easier to type comments on.

B10: What is the best plot twist you’ve ever seen?

In the realm of fanfiction, the best twist I've read was in a Hunter x Hunter story where an OC character was introduced so seamlessly into an existing arc from the series and then was revealed to be the target of a canon character... it made sense in the context of the story and it was so emotional it blew my mind (and my heart).

I tried looking for the story again to link it here, but it seems to have been removed T.T I don't think a story necessarily has to be super long to have a satisfying plot twist, but this beast was 70k+ words. And it was incomplete the last time I read it.

C4: What thing that fandom loves do you actually kind of hate? Why?

Ok, so the main reason I don't participate in shipping culture is because I've seen the ugly side of it on the internet and irl. Such wonderful art and stories and creativity have come out of ships, but the reality is that's not always the case. You can do your best to ignore it, but if a shipping war breaks out sometimes it's best to dip entirely. It's exhausting just to watch, I can only imagine what it must feel like to be a part of it.

To my knowledge this doesn't exist in the ikemen fandom, and I appreciate that.

C9: What show did you really try to watch, but you just couldn’t?

I am notoriously bad at completing recommendations people give me in a timely manner. I need the person who recommended the thing to sit with me and watch it so I can get the best experience, I think.

But one show I tried watching with a friend but I couldn't complete is Akame ga Kill. I never read the manga, but the impression the first 5 episodes gave me was that it was a generic dark world that kept trying to flood you with gore and edginess to distract from its very bland plot and characters.

The main reason I avoid entering online gamer communities like the plague is very much the "git gud"s and calling people "noobs" for playing the goddamn game

I've been playing Genshin Impact for no more than 2 weeks now, I'm on adventure rank 30 but when I mention to my friends (who have been playing it almost since it came out) that I'm having a hard time with a boss they always hit me with "oh that's the EASIEST boss in the game, I could one-shot that guy" and that just makes me feel so pathetic and again I barely started playing this game I haven't even completed the Geo archon storyline I am very much a noob but boy would some reassurance help my self-esteem

Overall the "noob" stigma keeps me from playing a lot of games because there's just no way to NOT be a noob when you're literally just LEARNING to play the game

HOW are you supposed to NOT be a noob when you're STARTING the game?!!

And I'd love to say there's nothing wrong with being a "noob" but that is NOT the vibe I got from most gaming communities

So, to no one’s surprise, I won’t be able to unlock all the stuff in mk11. I suspected it but thought the lucky towers were my big chance, that if I played it enough I could find the last stuff.

So, I have almost every kosmetic for Noob, missing only kl stuff and one single common mask (Night Watcher, it’s not even an elder rarity). The tutorial, Kollector trade, forge, all the character towers, it’s all done, and I even got to get his krypt event gear and his Gauntlet stuff.

I got him as the second boss for my current lucky towers and it was a struggle to beat him. I couldn’t use Noob himself because the other Noob is immune to shadow attacks, and I thought Sheeva would have trouble once he became immune to everything but fire in the end of the fight. My obvious next choice was Scorpion, with his Lucky Blows and his <- -> triangle but I suck at playing at him, it seems, and my hands sweat. Anyway I remembered my Geras has a Luckality, so I went and used him and spammed uppercuts. Done in two tries.

So I got a lvl 2 Sortality for my Noob (he already had the level 1) and two auspicious rewards. I have seen many people claiming the lucky towers could get you *any* skin or gear, including kl stuff. I didn’t hope so high, I just wanted my mysterious mask to show up, anything else would be a bonus

What came… was some jinsei augments

If there is a limit on how many itens can come from random, and how many items can come from special towers like lucky towers and meteor towers, and how many can come from the shrine and the krypt in general. Well, it’s not one that is clearly told. I wish someone told me if I already finished all the krypt itens rather than let me go forever there looking for an item that should come from somewhere else.

Right now I have still a bunch of stuff that I know for sure where to find (character towers, the gauntlet) but the rest? The rest could be anywhere. My mask is from a koop tower, so if I am lucky I could find it one of these days and hope that Noob won’t be the third boss (the third boss of koop can’t be played local)

So, without the magical powers I believe the Lucky Towers to have, what I have now is: finish character towers and gauntlet, finish every tower with rewards I don’t have, finish as many towers as I can so I can collect random rewards. No Lucky Towers until I am going crazy about some other item in particular or when/if I manage to hit the limit of items everywhere else.

I also want to try the meteor towers again. I think they were easier? (Well, it was just one boss fight) and they may be the easiest way to get kl skins

Another thing that will be a part of my play now will be keeping a look at the Premium Shop. I have a few krystals from leveling up, krypt events and the gauntlet. I don’t have enough to buy everything I don’t have, my priorities would be of course stuff from packs, followed by Noob’s mask and then whatever from KL I find pretty, and then everything else. I consider buying time krystals for it, but I should first find out how much this would cost

Anyway the best part is that I am free from the Lucky Towers again!

Y/N didn't really listen or help Sersi explain to Dane that they have powers because they are Eternals from the planet Olympia and have been on Earth for over 7,000 years, fighting Deviants. Until 5 centuries ago. He learned more about Sersi and Ikaris but the main thing was that Dane accepted her explanation and reasoning far better than Marc had. Y/N didn't miss the sad look they both gave her. 

"He'll come around, probably just the shock of it all," Dane tells her.

"You handled it alright, and you don't have a centuries-old Egyptian god in your brain. Moon Knight does. They even know about some of my powers. I told them when they told me about their personalities, though they conveniently left out Khonshu. It was Truth for Truth. The full story wasn't my story to tell. Doing so might have raised questions about Sersi and Sprite. That wouldn't be fair to them or you, but I guess that doesn't matter." She sighs. "I'm glad you don't hate us. I hate to do this but can I ask you a favor? Can you watch Noob and maybe feed Bas until we get back? I would ask Steven, but even if he would talk to me, I don't think Marc would let him."

"Of course," he nods.

"Thanks, Dane, I owe you one."

"You guys saved my life and a lot of other people, the least I can do is pet sit."

"Least you can do is nothing, but I appreciate it. I know you'll be kind to them. Sorry, I can't make you a giraffe either, but I can say if you ever need anything." She takes the feather keychain off her keys and holds it in her hands, imbuing it with a tiny fraction of her powers before handing it to him. "If something really bad happens. Hold it to your heart and I will hear it. We may not have cell signal, but as long as I’m on this planet it’ll work. It works for Osiris and he’s in the underworld, it should work for you."

"Osiris? Like the Egyptian god of the Dead? He has a direct line to you? Does your family?" 

"Osiris does, my family doesn't. Sadly, I cannot feel the Eternals like I can humans. I think Arishem thinks that would be a distraction. But humans, like you, I can hear. And you, you have a good heart Dane, that's why we know we can trust you with all of this. I don't even need my scales to know your heart balances. Sersi wouldn't be with you if it didn't. Take care of yourself." 

She moves to join Sprite while Sersi says her own goodbye.

Y/N was physically sore and absolutely exhausted on the flight to the States. The only thing giving her comfort was being surrounded by so many human hearts. She reached out just a bit with her powers to feel them. She focuses on one of a child, a young girl, that seems to be enjoying a show on a tablet. An innocent and pure heart full of joy. It reminds her that humans were worth fighting for. That little girl had so much life ahead of her. As upset and sad as Y/N might be, knowing innocence and good still existed even after so many years without the Eternals' assistance was comforting. It was a constant that she could always rely on.

"You okay?" Sersi asks, drawing her attention back. 

Y/N nods. "I'm fine."

"You should try and sleep," Sersi tells her. "You fought harder than most of us and took most of the hits."

"I'm not that fragile," Y/N assures her.

"No, but we have no idea when we might get the chance to again. Might as well embrace it while we can."

"Point taken," Y/N admits and as she usually does, she takes Sersi's advice.

As they left the airport and headed to their rental car, she pulled out her phone and calls Steven. He doesn't answer. She leaves a voicemail.

“Hey, just landed in the States. We’re headed to Ajak’s place, I’ll call you when we get to her house.”

When Ajak fails to greet them, something instantly feels off. Y/N reaches out but feels nothing. No humans for miles and no apparent threats. What they do find shakes them all. Ajak is dead. Her body was cold, drained of power. Y/N couldn't breathe for a moment. It is too much. They've never lost anyone before. Ajak always healed them. She kept them alive even through the most brutal of battles. Ajak was gone. Their leader was gone. They were on their own. Y/N could feel her hands start to shake. The ache in her knee returned. They were on their own against Deviants stronger than ever and they lost their healer. Ajak had kept them alive and safe for millennia. Now, what were they supposed to do?

Ikaris admits to being the last one to see her. To say that Ajak sent him to London to check on them. But the Deviant must have gotten her before he actually made it to London because as Sprite points out the Deviant healed like Ajak. They now had an enemy that could take their powers. None of them were safe in a fight if that was true. They are all shocked when Sersi tells them the sphere Ajak used to speak with Arishem went to her. That she spoke to Arishem. Ajak chose Sersi to replace her. Not Ikaris, which was surprising. He had always been more of a leader than most of them. He was devoted to the mission Arishem gave them.

Y/N put a hand on Ajak's cold chest. 

"May we meet again in the next life," Y/N says, hoping that no matter what afterlife awaited Eternals they would hopefully be together someday. 

They agreed to gather the rest of the team starting with Kingo.

Ancient Egypt, the beginning of the age of gods.

Y/N places a set of scales before the Ennead in the Chamber of the Gods. 

"Phastos says these scales will allow you to better judge a person's heart, even when I am not here. We formed them using my powers." She takes the large feather that the people had given her long ago because of her wings that she often included in her outfit out of appreciation and holds it tight between her hands, calling on the majority of her power and channeling it into the feather. It made her lightheaded as her hands and the feather began to glow. She wills a fraction of her own heart and powers into it. When she pulls her powers back the feather continues to have a sort of ethereal glow. "This feather," she holds it out to the small cluster of gods before her. "The feather of truth," she deems it. "I've put everything I know, everything I use to aid in judgment, into this feather. Weigh a person's heart against this feather and you will know their true nature, their heart. If it balances, they have a good heart, they deserve to see paradise."

"And they shall see the field of reeds," Osiris assures her.

"And if they don't balance?" Horus asks.

"If the feather rises, and the heart stays weighted down, they have failed. Their heart has shown their true nature, that their heart is filled with malice and should be justly condemned. If the scales move back and forth that means there is conflict in the person's heart. They are not inherently good or bad. They should be given a chance to process this, to look deep within themselves and if they can balance then they have made peace with their conflict. If they can't, they shall face proper justice."

"Justice shall be swift," Osiris adds. 

"You can judge both living and the dead to ensure justice and truth remain standard as time goes on and the kingdom grows. As long as I live, the feather of truth will hold the standards I have deemed fair and just. It is part of me. You have my judgment as long as the smallest spark of my power remains. We are bound, we are one." 

Modern Egyptian Underworld

"They've never done this before." Anubis, Taweret, and Osiris watch the scales shift without anything being weighed against the feather. 

"Keep watch," Osiris commands them. "We will see what Ma'at has to say."

South Dakota, USA

Y/N tries again to call Steven and Marc. 

“Hey, um, so we got to Ajak’s. She…got attacked by a deviant and is…Anyway, we’re flying back out again, probably going to find Kingo. Let me know if you get this, we’re in the middle of nowhere in South Dakota, so I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m not getting any service.”

As she puts her phone away. She is shocked to see the path to the temple open before her. 

"Sprite!" She calls the younger Eternal.

"Is that what I think it is?" Sprite says as she eyes the long open tunnel. "Tell Sersi I will meet you in Mumbai." Sprite nods.

Modern Egypt: Temple of the Gods

"Osiris," Y/N greets the glowing eyes of the avatar before her. 

"Ma'at," he greets her. "I am sure you are curious why I summoned you."

She sighs, "I have an idea about that and I will share what I know, you only ever have to ask."

"Your scales shifted while not in use. The others are concerned."

"I…I have concerning news for you, Osiris. The deviants have returned, they are stronger, faster and I'm afraid I can no longer guarantee that we, that I, will survive."

"What do you mean?" He asks. "How have you come to this conclusion?"

"One attacked us in London. Ikaris, Sersi, Sprite, and I were unable to kill it. Ikaris and I could only drive it back. The concerning thing is that it healed itself, Osiris. We went to consult Ajak and she was dead. The monster had stolen her powers and in doing so became stronger and harder to fight. In 7,000 years no Eternal has died. I'm afraid the shock may have momentarily shifted and shaken my beliefs. But the scales should be steady now. We are going to gather the rest of the Eternals and return to our mission, losing our healer will not deter us. We shall do our best to remove this threat to humanity. My only request is that should anything happen and my feather fade. Please tell Khonshu that I have failed. He will know why."

"That can be done. We will be observing," Osiris tells her. "Call upon us if you have a need. Isis would be devastated if we lost you, little feather. Your heart beats here. It shall remain protected." 

Mumbai, India

Y/N steps out into the busy streets of the city. She reaches out to feel the hearts around her. Now she had to wait for the rest of the team to get there. She takes out her phone and calls Steven.

"Osiris called me to the temple, my powers wavered after finding Ajak. I filled him in on what was happening. With Ajak gone we…Osiris will let Khonshu know if anything truly bad happens, he told me he would. I'm in India now. I got here before the others because of the temple path. I'll let you know more soon. I really do miss you both."

Before putting her phone away she sent a text to Sersi letting her know that she was in India.
