Stars don’t shine as bright as you, my Starlight, for if they did, they’d blind all who gaze upon them. They envy your beauty, your courage, your determination. They envy the way you carry yourself as if you didn’t have a care in the world.
The moon, on the other hand, sees your pain. When you think no one will hear you, she hears your cries. She sees what you do to your arm and your legs, but she does not judge you for it. Because the moon has her own pain, her craters are proof of that. Instead, she tries to distract you from your pain by shining a little brighter, by sticking around a little longer.
‘My starlight…’ she says, ‘you are my star, but I don’t think you’re ready to join me in the sky. So stay strong, please. If you feel like you’re all alone, gaze upon me and see that I am here. Even when I’m gone, you will still see me. I am here.’
