Vox and Alastor are childhood friends and as they grew up they didn’t see eye to eye on things anymore so they grew apart, Vox tried to move on and focus on his job as the news guy for the town. Alastor is one of the most wanted criminals that Lucifer wants dead and buried asap hahah! Alastor does sneak into town mainly to annoy Vox but also because he doesn’t want to let go of their bond completely and even though Vox keeps threatening he’ll report him to the sheriff, aka Lucifer, he knows he won’t do that to him since Vox still has a soft spot for him~✨

And well there are more feelings between them than just friendship ofc ❤️💙

When it comes to Lucifer and Vox’s relationship, it is mainly just a work relationship since Vox reports the news to Lucifer first and they ended up becoming friendly with each other over time! And they did end up sleeping with each other ONCE when they both were out having drinks one evening but they chose to not really talk about it any further 😂

Most recent brainrot is putting Kiwi and Oz into a modern AU. Monkey See, Monkey Do

Started out with Destined One frequenting the same bar to practice billard, while Oz is the resident pianist there and it just snowballed from there and now I have some backstories for those two idiots

5th year medicine student. 25 years old, he started with his study when he was 20, took two years to travel around

Lost his parents and older brother in a car accident. He barely survived and was hospitalized for a long time. Selective mute since then

Uncle Shen Monkey then took him in and raised him

remembers the nurses and doctors fondly hence, why he also wants to study medicine and become a doctor later

Uncle Shen Monkey owns cocktail lounge / fancy bar called Flying Monkeys . Shen Monkey is also the barista also, and there are few pool tables available.

Kiwi spent a lot of his teen years playing billard, hence he is VERY good at it. Still goes to play and practice

Kiwi participates in local tournaments

also helps out at the lounge from time to time

Seems to be very popular among his peers despite being an introvert and loner??

his fellow students like him because when they ask him for help he gives it to them

the type that seems like a cold douche but will not hesitate to step in when he sees a woman being uncomfortable or being harrassed

kinda popular among the ladies, plus the fact that he looks really good when playing billard adds to it

probably gets asked out a lot, or phone numbers slipped into his bag

always rejects them because he got his sight set on someone else hehe

occassionaly talks with the half siblings, but has not much contact with her father. Mom had full custody and essentially raised her as a single mom

typical tiger mom. Loves her mom but has a strained relationship with her at the moment. low contact

Did not have many friends as a kid, mom had a tight grip on her and her time and education. Started making real friends once she moved out for university. Met Yù @marcu-bug, Birdie @dunanana, Liyu @s0rr3l and Beike @maiden-of-the-waters and they are pretty much her only friends LOL

Started having piano lessons as early on. Had good promises to be a concert pianist, but ofc that is not a viable career path as per her mom

Studied medicine only because her mom wanted her to. She was VERY MISERABLE during her time as a student. Dropped out during the practical years because the pressure was just too much for her and she realized being a doctor was just not what she wanted to do. She wasn't happy with it, hence also why her relationship with her mom is strained, cause Oz was THIS close to finishing and then decided to ""give up""

Also her then-boyfriend cheated on her she caught him in bed with another person

And her great-grandfather passed away

overall not a good year on her mental health. Realized all she did was just doing what other people wanter her to do. Dropped out to take a break and just figure out her place in this world

works as a pianist at Flying Monkeys after dropping out. Shen Monkey pays really well and she also gets very good tips because. Helps out at the bar on days when they are short staffed to make some more extra cash

Gets hit on few times at work, but luckily a certain monkey is always there to look out for her....

Kiwi bumped into Oz during his first year in univeristy. Probably when both needed to submit some paperwork for the univerity, Oz for dropping out. She noticed him carrying the newest comic issue of The Monkey King, and asked him about it

Learned really soon that he is a selective mute, but didn't treat him any differently and just carried on the conversation with him as usual, which he really appreciated

I wouldn't say it was love at first sight for him, more like the feeling you have when you're sitting in the plane and it is landing soon and you see the lights of your city below you and you know you are this close to home? Yeah it's that feeling.

anyway months passed and he hasn't seen her since then but she is always like there in the back of his mind

Uncle Shen Monkey telling him one day that he hired a new pianist which is nice cause they haven't had one in a while and that he wants Kiwi to be there to show her around the lounge a bit and stuff

Kiwi, not very happy about that because he doesn't really enjoy meeting new people, is then surprised to see that Oz is the new pianist his uncle hired.

Oz.... vaguely remembers him LOL. Probably takes her like a few weeks to go "hey.... have we met before???"

Suddenly Kiwi has a lot more time to be around his uncle's lounge again. Uncle Shen Monkey know what is up there. probably tries to play wingman

Enter the "and they were roommates" arc

Oz moved back to her mom but things are NOT good. lot's of fights

Kiwi overhearing one day how she asks Shen Monkey if he knows about any free rooms for rent to let her know

and whatdya know Uncle Shen Monkey does happen to know someone who has a free room

Kiwi. it's kiwi who has a free room that is sort of used as a storage at the moment. he doesn't mind Oz moving in there. Gives her a really good rent deal, where she is basically paying all the bills and that's it

Kiwi owns the apartment. His parents left a good amount of assets behind which he sold and then bought his own place

Oz is very grateful for the deal, because it helps her to save money and put aside to eventually move out and find her own place

spoiler alert that's not gonna happen lmfao

Oz has the room closes to the bathroom because Kiwi is nice like that. He'd move in an old piano in too for her to practice and play

at first Oz was very shy about playing because she doesn't want to disturb him when he is studying but he likes listening to her practice and play when he is studying

I think that before Oz moved in, Kiwi barely decorated the apartment much. The embodiment of only had the bare neccessaties in it. But once Oz moves in, it started to feel more like a home than just a housing for him to come back and pass out. I think the only real personal belonging he has is a good decent The Monkey King comic collectiona and collectibles

Definitely have a vinyl record player, something that Oz always wanted to have. She movied in with like five records in her collection, and Kiwi then gifted her a player, and the collection just grew from there

both are very much introverts, so they prefer to spend most of the time just chilling at home, on the couch together playing games or reading books

Oz does sometimes have her friends other to hangout

because both work crazy hours sometimes, Kiwi would go Flying Monkeys after his shift to pick Oz up and then they go home together

Kiwi doesn't know how to drive, never learned too traumatized from the accident. So Oz is the one who rents a car and drives when they decied to take trips together

Have a rule to put a sock on the door handle and text the other person to let them know when they have special guests at the palce

spoiler alert none of them ever bring any hook ups home lmfao

Oz does go on few dates but never brings anyone home because it just doesn't feel right

and Kiwi well, his heart belongs to only one person hehe

have weekly movie nights. Kiwi takes it personal if Oz binges a whole season without him

Wonderland tadc designs ramble maybe? :³ (ofc, it's okay if you don't want to)

Zooble’s design was a little tricky when I tried drawing her first hand. Before I was trying to see how she would work as a caterpillar, and I wanted to avoid making her look too much like one and to close to her original design. It wasn’t until I remembered the Frankenstein-toys from Toy Story and used their mismatched designs for inspiration. The Barbie doll arm is the biggest hint.

Before gangle played the role as tweedle Dee and tweedle dum. But later changed after sun and moon filled the role. The design actually worked out very well when I thought how I can clearly tie the ribbons. The wings for the gryphon is no brainer, but I'm more proud of myself on giving the mock-turtle a bun-like ribbon. The mask for the mock-turtle is actually based on Japanese dragon heads.

Moon and sun filled the role perfectly and both played off each-other well comedically. But their first designs aren’t my favorite because of their torso half. They originally were gonna have those spin top toys for dresses, making them looking goofy. But it became difficult to draw multiple times, so I decided to drop it and redesign. It wasn’t until after looking for refs, I found a little Victorian lad in a sailor uniform. It was cute and it made me think that these two would be placed near the shore or docks telling nonsensical rhymes and stories.

I’ll explain more later on once the master post is complete, so stay tuned too.

So, I'm gonna preface this ask by saying: the beautiful Pony!Calamity Trio art you did on the Amphibia shared-canvas-thing got me thinking A LOT about the finer details of the Trio as Ponies–

That being said, after spending far too long pondering the subject myself, I'm curious— do you have any ideas for what the Trio's names would be as Ponies?

thank you!! they were fun to design! i have colored fullbodies of their show-age designs in the works too (sasha’s is done, marcy’s is lined, anne’s is sketched), so i wanted to try out rough concepts for their future designs as well. i’m sure i’ll make fullbody refs for their timeskip designs too at some point, though these are just kind of a “whenever i feel like it” project more than something actually on my to-do list, so not sure when that’ll be. i HAVE to make a darcy design too tho, it just sounds like the coolest thing ever.

the designs were mostly just for fun, so i don’t have a lot of the details figured out about the au as a whole, except that their species were chosen to align the “hierarchy” of their respective amphibians with the “hierarchy” of the pony species. plus they just fit the vibes this way.

it seems like it would be pretty similar to the show, honestly. they would still look just as weird to the amphibians as they did as humans, and the plot and character arcs wouldn’t change much from thinking off the top of my head. andrias’ desire for human tech would be a moot point because ponies don’t rely on tech of the same kind/the same way, but that’s not to say he wouldn’t absolutely find use of the ponies’ magic, especially if he found a way to harness it. i can see him really being intrigued by it after befriending marcy and seeing the power she holds in her horn even while possessed by the core (especially since unicorn marcy is likely to be incredibly gifted in magic)

i don’t think anne would gain her wings and horn when using her partial powers throughout tc and s3, but i think it makes sense/would be cool for the calamity powers to grant all three of them temporary alicorn status when fully activated. “the powers must stack when used in tandem! classic synergy buff” as marcy would put it. but the power isn’t everything, of course, and anne’s heart and sacrifice are still the factors that ultimately win the war for them.

as for names, i’ve thought some about it but haven’t really gotten to any definitive conclusions. their warrior cat names came to me pretty instinctively but pony names feel much harder 😭

it would be really cool if each of them had something tying back their calamity trait ingrained in their names from the start, tying them to the prophecy long before they became remotely aware of it, but i’m not sure what words would make the names still sound natural and not obvious. ofc the prophecy’s not the only substantial thing about them and shouldn’t define them, it’s just cool in a “woooaahh it’s always been our destiny” kind of way. but not sold on it bc i can’t come up with any particular ideas lmao, plus i was already planning on incorporating the “three stars” part of it into each of their cutie marks so it’s not a concept i’ll likely likely end up sticking with. but as for specific thoughts for each girl, here’s where i’m at:

• i can see the “bright” from waybright being used as part of sasha’s name, and can see it suiting her. i feel like a fiery, warm, powerful feeling to her name in general suits her really well, both pre and post-redemption. she’s a protector at heart, it just takes her a while to learn to do it right, and that feels like it should reflect in her name. bright, wing, ember, blaze, flame, spark, etc. are all words i’ve considered for her, just haven’t settled on anything that really feels like her yet even though she’s the one i have the most ideas for

• anne is transfem to me in every universe, so her name needs to feel to me like something she would pick herself. pretty and feminine but not dainty. maybe floral. Lilypad Lotus is where i’m leaning. lotus like in my warrior name for her ties her back to her thai culture again which i’m also all for, and it just really suits her. i can also see her liking lilypad as part of her name, chosen before amphibia just because she thought it was pretty. her being kind of inexplicably drawn to it, only for the tangential relation to frogs to become such a massive part of her identity later. her “first name” being her own like in the show with her “last name” still being hers but also a draw back to her heritage, which would no doubt be different as a pony, but still could parallel the thai culture as much as possible

• marcy on the other hand has me completely stuck. she feels like she should be easy, but she isn’t. her character is too big to simplify her name down to her hobbies and interests like some pony names. the principles i used choosing her warrior name don’t really align here, because her warrior name is sparrowflight but she’s not a pegasus, so it doesn’t feel correct. i’d like some option where she can keep her plethora of nicknames (mar-mar, marbles, marshmallow, etc. having marble in her name somewhere might even be good), because that way she’d also have some tie back to her human name like if we were to use bright and lotus. some sort of name highlighting her intelligence feels right (i would probably say “bright” if it didn’t feel more right to give that to sasha), but it’s also not her only characteristic and shouldn’t be treated like all she’s good for, so it would have to be a healthy combination. a name highlighting her energy and hyperactivity as well makes sense pre-amphibia, but she definitely mellows out a lot after, so it would still need to be flexible enough to still feel like marcy at every period in her life. she’s still excitable and bouncy (eventually), but she’s an artist— she does Not have that kind of energy anymore 💀 we don’t know how connected to her culture she is, but we know she’s canonically fluent in mandarin at the very least, so there’s definitely a case to be made for choosing a taiwanese/chinese-inspired name somewhere in hers too, though i wouldn’t have any ideas without doing some more research first. and the whole thing gets even MORE complicated when you realize her name has to easily change to something else to become darcy’s name. there’s so many angles you could take marcy’s name in that there really doesn’t feel like an obvious answer

i’m definitely open to name suggestions for all three and cutie mark ideas for marcy and sasha (i already have one for anne. vague idea for sasha that i may just need to develop more, but once again stuck on marcy) if anyone has other ideas! i have a lot of fun making crossovers like this so i’m happy to receive more potential inspiration lmao

johnny's a freight diesel and the jang are his freight (ollie = boxcar, stephen = aircraft flatcar, rj = coil car) and max is a single-unit streetcar! tbh he gives me coach vibes but in this au spectrals = engines, so streetcar is the best of both worlds

they're super fun to bounce off each other bc johnny's used to playing rough and working in large groups and max is used to avoiding things and being a solo operation! he doesn't have couplers at all which freaks everyone else out when he shows up in the yard for the first time. billy luigi-style gripping ensures. he's also dual-power which is like. johnny is really struggling with the concept someone help him

meanwhile johnny has a ton of exposed engine vents bc he thinks it looks cool and the jang + max will drop random stuff in them to see how long it'll take to melt for funsies

oh cute thing! max is technically doodlebug-adjacent but gets annoyed when he's called that that so ofc johnny does just to tease him. it eventually winds up being genuinely affectionate. max doesn't hate it nearly as much as he pretends to

since johnny's heavy rail as opposed to max's light rail they'll do this thing where they'll couple up with him in front to build up speed so max can use the momentum to do sick flips trax style. enrichment for trains

max being unwilling dragged into the freight cuddle pile but winds up monopolizing johnny anyway bc he's warm. that is all

My first official venture into a super rare pair, EmmaStan, aka Emma-May Dixon and Stanley Pines!! @cosmo-shell and @slug-ball opened my eyes to the concept of these two, and WHOA the potential really stole my heart. It's absolutely not what they're serving out front, lmao, but the ship has bewitched me body and soul nonetheless. I just fell in love with the idea of these two tortured souls finding comfort in each other during the most difficult periods of their lives. They've been through HELL and deserve nice things. 😊💖 (And Emma-May in particular deserves WAY more love and attention in this fandom!)

My personal interpretation of Emma-May was mainly inspired by this piece by @birdskullz and this piece by @cosmo-shell.

Check out my AU fic for them here if you want! I haven't attempted a multi-chaptered fic in a VERY long time, lol, so hopefully this one will pan out well. First two chapters are up, but I've got more drafted out that will be posted very soon!

Writing out some key HCs about Emma-May and a rough timeline of events I constructed for my AU fic under the cut here:

Emma-May's family moved from Kansas to Tennessee when she was less than a year old, so she was raised in TN

Her mother is black while her father is white, and she has two older sisters

She became friends with Fiddleford and his siblings sometime during childhood

She attended college in New Jersey (went to a school I made up called “Gertrude University,” sort of a ref to the real university of Rutgers), majoring in botany, while Fidds ofc went to Backupsmore somewhere in the midwest 

Met Stan by chance once as a college student about a year after he was kicked out of his house and was still struggling with treasure hunting (probably around 1970 or 1971)

Married Fidds anywhere from 1973-1975 when they were in their 20s – felt pressured from family and society to get married, but they were best friends and did love each other (but the marriage was covertly strained from the beginning bc neither could get what they truly needed from each other – best friends don't necessarily work as a married couple even if some level of attraction is there along with the love)

Had Tate in the early-mid 70s, both love him to pieces and Fidds was a very devoted father up until he started unraveling 

Fidds left his family around the very late 70s to early 80s to work with Ford

Fidds abandoned the portal project in the early 80s, at that point already having started his descent into madness due to his reliance on the memory gun

Emma-May filed for divorce after becoming fed up with his bizarre behavior, lack of calls home, and a big fight they had around Christmas of the early 80s

The “homicidal pterodactyl-tron” attack happened during springtime after that Christmas, and this solidified Emma-May's decision to take Tate someplace safe (to stay with her aunt who lives in another state) while she set off to Gravity Falls herself to try to track Fiddleford down and figure out wtf happened to make him so different and dangerous 

At some point either right before or after the pterodactyl attack, Fidds created the Society of the Blind Eye and subsequently lost what remained of his mind and memories

Emma-May bumped into Stan, once again by chance, the night before he arrived in Gravity Falls upon Ford's request

its been a while but new pareidolia creature!! ive been thinking of making these for a while. in case u don't know what an älgfrode is (a bit more of a niche nordic mythology creature), an älgfrode (or elgfróði in icelandic) was mentioned in hrólfs saga kraka, one of the old norse hero sagas. while the context for that was one specific character i just wanted to make moose people..

more info abt my creatures below the cut...

they wear more clothes than in the ref this is just to show their anatomy LOL. clothing is actually very important to them and textiles will almost always have a role in any tradition/significant social event. their textilework is very renowed and is one of the trades that cause some other vättar to want to trade with them as mentioned in the ref!

one potential reason for their high level of defensiveness is that their species suffers from a higher than average infant mortality rate - with time, this mortality rate has lowered from what it used to be, but when the species first appeared, it wasn't unusual for a mother to have to give birth to many calves before one even made it to adulthood. this rooted a deep set vigilance in them - even now that the rates have stabilised a bit. the high mortality rate was probably due to the affected "shift" gene sometimes activating improperly which could result in stillborns. with time and selective pressure new gene mutations would arise in the species that "counteracted" the instability of the first initial one and made the infant mortality decrease. it is, however, still a little higher than usual for similar species, and so it is traditionally encouraged to have many children.

gender roles for älgfroder are interesting - there is a strong sense of "equal strength", or "laorhgr" in älgfrode, which is important. while males are usually slightly larger than females, there is emphasis on the importance on a pair being able to stand their ground both physically and emotionally to the other and a relationship can only go ahead if a spar between two älgfroder is fair. this extends to an interesting dynamic that involves polyamory. älgfroder can be both monogamous and polyamorous, however polyamorous relationships often only arise when there is a big physical differential between two parties. the belief is that if one party is stronger than the other, that strength can be equalised if the other party is accompanied a second partner of similar strength - usually this happens between one strong male and two females on the smaller end. that way the resulting relationship has achieved "laorhgr". this ofc varies as everything does but ya. basically if you are a big strong älgfrode dating a small petite älgfrode it's seen as shameful and barbaric. there is also a bias to heterosexual relationships as it is seen as an important social duty to at least successfully raise one calf.

dhukohr are the more commonly occuring intersex condition in älgfrodar, but there is an equivalent to it for "males" where they fail to grow antlers and have very small dewlaps due to low testosterone levels - those are usually referred to as kvikohr. they are often recognised as their own gender respectively however there are many that identify as men/women too. some of these dhukohr/kvikohr are actually moreso trans than intersex - simply having utilized faerie dust in order to transition. this can be a bit of an ordeal though because usually this requires being administered it by a tomte which, depending on the settlment, can be a tense negotiation, although individuals usually have a less hard time with that.

älgfrodar and bäckahästar can hybridise and do sometimes produce fertile offspring! i would have to think more about this though erm. but i think it does and can happen. there is a sense of rare camraderie between the two species in many cases but especially so between älgfrodar and bäckahäst communities that choose to spend more time as their faun shift than their base shift - in fact a few of these bäckahästar choose to integrate into certain älgfrode settlements, but this is more of a rare occurance. most bäckahästar that possess "unishift" clothing have actually had them made by älgfrodar, or at least had the fabric sourced from them

I honestly didn’t think I would make her ref like this. Most of the time I just make my ocs ref be them with a white background, they’re name and pronouns and done. Plain like that. But nah, I went to do more with Serenity’s new one here… used a font with text this time instead of just writing it all down, a light grey background, all that stuff..

Do I regret it? No! It honestly looks more decent this way! A special new ref just for her… exactly what she deserves! Looks better than her old plain ref with her old design.

But yea as you can see, she hasn’t changed THAT much. Her ninja design is still the same. However, in her ordinary form, her clothes have gotten some few upgrades. And boi, do I feel satisfied with it… oh and her own Nomicon is shown too! You can tell the details on it is kinda different from the original Nomicon.. especially the middle part with the ninja head medal thing shown..

Now, I have shown some small info about her already in the old ref… BUT! Those were actually written in a rush back then so more stuff about her wasn’t really revealed completely and properly…

Serenity (14-15) (she/her)

Full name: Serenity Peterson

- Serenity is a ninja just like Randy but more of a ‘hidden’ one, one who takes care of a problem elsewhere (a enemy hidden that had to be taken care of. Kinda like the sorcerer but hidden somewhere else far away.) that no one else knows about while she keeps herself in the shadows and making sure that no one finds out about her since everyone in Norrisville thinks there is only one ninja that protects them.

- i have mentioned it a few times before already but,,, i have a (currently old now but still exists and alive) fan made Rc9gn story that she is apart of which takes part after season 2 called “hidden danger”, it explains a bit more about it there along with The cursed Samurai’s first appearance but that’s still a story for another day…

- speaking of the Cursed Samurai, Cursed! Honoka herself, is the mentioned ‘problem’ that Serenity was tasked to take care of! Hell, that cursed woman was originally made and still from the “hidden danger” story as the main villain! The name of the story is meant to hint to HER since she IS a ‘hidden danger’. (She may be also a minor villain now in the NN AU too along with her being defeated in a different way and normal Honoka getting a different life… but she (both the curse and Honoka, and them together) was and still originally is from “hidden danger” first along with Serenity!)

- unlike Randy who is called the Ninja when he is being…well, the ninja. Serenity is called ‘Kunoichi’. I know, so original. But I think it’s nice. I’m still thinking about it though, this is a bit of an unsure idea but I don’t hate it.

- Serenity is kinda childish, very energetic and a bit of a nerd, usually with hero stuff and actions figures and stuff like that. She isn’t really what others may think is ‘feminine’.

- tho even if she is kind of a tomboy. she is fine with dresses and any other ‘feminine’ clothing but she prefers to dress more like the main outfit she has right now. Maybe sometimes some baggy clothes or just anything she finds casual, ‘cool’ and comfy.

- she’s bisexual.

- she used to have a crush on Morgan ( yes. MORGAN), thinking she was just so cool and elegant with her dance moves and all. Unfortunately, she got friend zoned. (Morgan didn’t really know about her feelings tho, just didn’t really have that much interest in her plus the girl didn’t even ever try to ask her out) the girl was a bit hurt at first as this was her first crush and all but don’t worry, she moved on.

- she looks up to Randy, he has been her role model ever since she had first learned about him when she got the job as the ‘hidden ninja’. She didn’t know like his entire life at first, only about the lessons he got (which she also had), his battles, fighting style and a bit of his personality along with his charm. All told and shown to her by her Nomicon. (Yes, she has her own Nomicon.) she found him to be so honking bruce and inspiring that she wanted to be just like him one day and she still, even in the present where they are good friends, wants to follow in his footsteps.

- they meet after the whole crazy stuff has ended in season 2. Serenity, in times when she was not busy doing her own duty, has been in the crowd of students in the school and watched him fight out there but she never tried talking to him because her Nomicon told her not to bring too much attention to herself from anyone else, including letting the main hero himself, this also has to do with her having to stay ‘hidden’.

- Randy and Serenity are the ‘ninja duo’! It’s just something a little cute I thought of back then during her development with the “hidden danger” story and everything and kept ever since. ‘The ninja duo’ thing was suggested by none other then the ninja girl herself back when they first met and she got him to go help her with her problem (cuz while he was doing his own thing in season 1 and 2, the poor girl had a very hard time and always got her ass kicked because of it.), she brought it up while she was being all excited about getting to fight with her role model for the very first time. Randy thought about it at first, accepting it right after.

- after everything that happened in the story (the cursed samurai being defeated for good), Serenity became friends with Randy! And then Howard later on!

- now we all know how the ninja can have powers such as Tengu fire ball, hydro hand, etc. well…..Serenity struggles with that too. In fact, she can barely use them. Now she has her weapons and moves but for some unknown reason, she has such a hard time using the other abilities no matter how much she trains for them. It’s almost like she’s cursed. She isn’t, that’s just what she thinks. Even her Nomicon seems slightly puzzled by this.

- because of this, Randy decided to try helping her with it. And later on, it kinda helps but it still takes alot of time for the girl to be able to use these skills properly so she continues to go on without them for the time being.

- Though later on in the future, she may or may not be able to finally actually do some for the first time ever. And that first ability/power she will be able to use may or may not be ninja rage….eheh….

- her family.. is only her and her parents, has always been like that for years.. her parents? Aren’t that great honestly. They are pretty neglectful, barely paying attention to her nowadays…but at least she gets to do stuff she wants outside!

- BTW…. She actually has a stanked form I made for her… yep that’s right, she gets stanked at one point! Not in “Hidden Danger” but….huehuehue…it’s old now but it could soon be remaked..

Okay…I’m gonna be fully honest rn… these past few days, I’ve been in a mixed mood. Both good and bad.. good cuz I’m stil alright ig but bad cuz of this small feeling of dread I have in me, one i can’t shake off that has gotten me in a kinda bad sad mood…. I’ll try to explain about it in another post when I’m ready, probably not today tho… (it’s nothing TOO terrible but it still bugs me ALOT.)

It may not seem like it but Serenity means a lot to me, more than you think. That’s why I keep calling her ‘my daughter” like now, it’s not just only me being silly. Well kinda but still- I used to draw her so much with Randy years ago along with Howard sometimes.. way before others like Esther, Seth, his team, and even Nobu along with their AU existed!

Hey since Faust implied that one day Dante could be able to control their flashback power. Do you think they'll try and show the other Sinners the memories they n Heath have of Cathy?

Given a recent reveal from JIshmasl, and thus a showing of just how fucked and wierd both the Bough n Mirror can get, do you think it could work?

OHHH rubs my hands together. this is actually something i'd been discussing with friends recently and that i wanted to make a post about because i feel it's a point a lot of people get stuck on a lot re: canto VI and heathcliff's story. now's a good time as any SO, two parts to this answer:

1. the golden bough and... where the hell are dante's powers Going?

2. the sinners don't remember catherine- does it matter? is that what "remember" even refers to?

let's go.

SO the boughs have been on my mind- i keep thinking about the wording here, the "reconstruction" underlines how this is LITERALLY the Light that we're talking about, that dante's directly connecting to its reservoir in a sense (the one limbus company is keeping ofc)

which is a crazy amount of power. through it they're slowly unlocking the seed of light abilities but also these powers tied to how the light functions, being something that sees, reaches into and amplifies the feelings, passion and despair of everything it interacts with. while a... self-interested guess, kind of, heathcliff absolutely has a point in claiming that the boughs "connect the hearts", so dante in their work as the lcb manager is using them to connect to the sinners and to the mirror worlds- but what they're actually going to use this power for... i wonder. dante definitely has this role as a keeper of their group's memory (one of the few divine comedy refs in the game!) but as of now they're mostly accruing it- they were explicit about it in canto IV

but even after this- several times heathcliff brings up something about canto VI dante barges in to change the subject. they haven't told the sinners about what happened, and it's clearly not to protect heathcliff or avoid saying what catherine did. it feels much more like dante is trying to avoid talking about what they did in WH. this is also highlighted by how much we're told the sinners remember still- hong lu and ishmael remember the letter (rose hunter logs), and hong lu remembers that heathcliff was at WH to meet the person he loved (c8), so the sinners may not know her name or her face, but they likely remember about the "girlfriend" he's "always whining about", and the biggest thing that was removed is... the removal in itself.

dante's role as the memory keeper is bound to come up again (betting on canto IX...) but i'm really not sure in what way exactly. what i'm saying here is dante seems very... selfish, or maybe more calculating about how they decide to share their knowledge. it is like their one thing at their disposal so i don't blame them feeling possessive about it, but we don't know what any of their previous life's plans included, and their avoidance in talking or even thinking about the incredible amount of power they made use of back there makes me think they're actually going to keep doing their best to not share any info they don't need to, even (or maybe especially...) once they're able to control their powers. i think it would be Possible, as the powers of the bough and the light extend beyond mirror worlds, and they keep growing stronger, but that'd require them wanting to.

NOW for the second bit: when i posted about heathcliff's lines abt marriage in canto VIII i got a lot of comments of the sort, "he loves her so much and nobody KNOWS nobody REMEMBERS..." which had me like. so confused about why people care about that at all.

i feel like fandom has misinterpreted the tragedy of what happened with catherine into being "it's sad that the sinners don't remember her", and is going by the assumption that by focusing on the keyword "remember" heathcliff cares about whether people know catherine, that his goal is to restore her memory for others. this is not the case! the sinners and nelly not remembering catherine is just how we the audience are shown how this affects heathcliff, the fact that there was a forceful change in the world that removed a living and breathing part of it in an attempt to save him and the sinners.

the thing about catherine's memory is much more personal to heathcliff. canto VI has a lot on miscommunication, misdirected feelings and wrongful assumptions, as well as the depths of the love that comes from actually knowing someone. i think one of the most blatant misinterpretations of it was when people were saying heathcliff had an idealized view of catherine, when all through the canto and in previous content we see the opposite: when he left, heathcliff took with him his view of catherine as a cruel, self-serving person who had played with his heart for a lifetime and then got bored of him. he thought of her as someone completely unfeeling, who not only didn't love him as a man, but that also likely had never treasured him as a friend, since he imagined she'd be unaffected by him leaving without a word, and is surprised to learn she actually fell ill during that time. linton similarly saw her as only carrying shallow feelings for heathcliff, and truly believed that helping her kill herself was the only way to make her happy, rather than a last resort at the end of years of pain and guilt.

it's what the diary is all about, and why i'm always so sad at the common interpretation of her as a cold blooded manipulative untouchable goddess- the canto talks about how big of a lie that all was! that she had a lot of feelings, some good and some bad, that she was furious at being abandoned, that when things got bad she started hurting others, that she was lonely and felt unloved... which is just like Normal Human Feelings, all of which heathcliff shared.

this is the most important thing for him, that could've saved them in all those worlds, the strength to trust and see each other as they truly were. this is what the theme of memory goes back to, the fact that in her absence, heathcliff owes it to her to remember her the way she was, clearly not a kindly selfless heroine, but also not the cruel woman that he'd built up and thought of with scorn and anger in all their time apart. just the person she was: the diary, the birds, the fear of the dark, hatred of loud noises, impatient, bossy, the flower ring and the open door. his best friend.

as nearly everyone who knew her died by now anyway, the only person who can even be affected by this is him, and all his other selves. the theme of remembrance isn't a tragedy everyone shares in (like it might be for say, the manchegan family, whom all the sinners had a hand in wiping out), but it's instead a personal responsibility he holds for his lover and for all the other heathcliffs, who never even got a chance to decide whether to speak with their own catherines before they were forcefully ripped away.

as the story goes on of course this could go a lot of ways, but he has no real reason or motivation to "share" this with anyone- it's something different from remembering a dead person to keep their memory alive, since he is absolutely motivated to get the bough and drag her back here. also, the sinners are kind of awful and i would not want to introduce them to my girlfriend let alone the love of my life... ofc this could change, and i think despite being Shy he would be happy to open up about her if the topic came up (though i guess we don't get a lot of banter/downtime moments in this game at all so that's more of a headcanon STDGYUHDFS) but! in the meantime, heathcliff's main goal is fulfilling this responsibility for her, to remember her by... literally being accurate in his memory of her, and by continuing being the kind and honest person she'd always loved.

Ceroba def helped Starlo out with his bandages often before they were able to get him a binder. the one where clovers drawing is !! an idea of revived!clover or clover staying in the underground in hiding. Martlet got him that shirt :)) and obv the bell earring is from Ceroba. sorry to all my cotl followers i STILL have no colored the 5 body refs of both narinder and lambert. I picked the colors here on a whim so uhmmm it's not official!!! not yet anyways!! i do like what i used for Narinders fur tho, so that might stay idk yet i hte coloring BNJKNKSD i colored this whole thing on a wild impulse.. thus staying up all night. Hi guys. You're never gonna believe it but I ACTUALLY drew New Age Dust his reference sheet! (More info + crops under the cut!)

Sooo Dust and Horror were cursed early on because they were only ever in wip stages (really loose sketches) and so I've been very vague with describing them smh... Dust in particular.

For a close-up, this is his main-story design! (Minus his mask). And the most important bits I've changed since my last two versions are the shoulder-cloak/hood combo, and the silver/steel armor plating. I felt like Dust would want sonething heavier to conseal him than those hoods attached to the shoulder armor (what I initially had) and then the armor is silver rather than gold for stealth purposes! Much less flashy, plus then it draws attention to Nightmare's crest!

^ Images of mind I used as loose refs. Ultimately? He needed less armor and more dark layers that would obscure his shape but not hinder his movement. (Also that Blaster is NOT canon. That man doesn't have the energy for it...) I think my favorite subtle detail is that Dust's og red sketch has feathers attacked to his hood. I retconned that and moved them to his hip!

Then, ofc, the post-story version of Dust's mission outfit! Mostly the same, but he gains a LOT of crystal spells from Geno (the ones on his hip are for the auto-saddle and smth else surely horse-related. The one on his arm is to reinforce the gauntlet.) He also gets a sign of marriage from Reaper and Geno! In Sanctuary it's customary for the proposer to offer a family-based jewelry item, motifs travel through generations. Reaper, as royalty, uses the laurel crowns. But since Dust isn't joining them full time in Sanctuary and is still loyal to serve under Nightmare, Reaper and Geno decide to give him a laurel pin instead! He doesn't wear it out usually on missions, but public events like balls or meetings with other kingdom's rulers he'll bring it out (both to show off his amazing husbands subtly AND to show that there's some sort of alliance between Orchard and Sactuary). And then my final note is the eye marks! Those *usually* only show when one lives in Sanctuary for years. But by being close to Reaper (ruler) the magic kinda takes a liking to Dust and clings to him even after he leaves. Though they do start to fade after a couple of months. Ofc, once the three soul-bond it stays put haha- Eaxh of these elements are added over the course of years, but eventually this is the vibe!

Then off to the far right is a casual fit heavily inspired by Ancha!! In several first Dust has been described as wearing a beanie and I HAD to try sketching him out lol!

Oh and a bonus?

Approximately their actual height difference. Guys when I call Dust small I am NOT kidding. This guy like... his soul literally quit after he hit puberty for the first time and it SHOWS. He's gotten a bit more mature-looking over the years, grown a frw inches, the rough + tumble life hit him hard, but he seems youthful and handsome if you're just catching glimpses 🙏

Tbf though, Geno is unusually tall and Reaper can float so he looks downright miniscule beside them 😅

Aaaaand that's all I've got for now! Just know I think about these guys constantly and Dust will continue to grow on me now that I like his design lol.

Harry has returned for the land of neglect, and now has an updated mindscape ref sheet :3

And an additional doodle :3 (with goop and not goop bc I like both)

It's been,, a long while since I talked about him, so a bit of rambling!

Once again, Harry is more so the original, pre potion Jekyll than a combined Jekyll and Hyde, with added trauma and paranoia from being trapped in the mindscape for so long :3. He got trapped away in the mindscape while Jekyll and Hyde got split off from him-- Jekyll believing, ofc, that he himself is the real Jekyll, and that Hyde is a fragment of him. Which! Makes it fun once Harry regains control and Jekyll realizes that he's also just a broken piece :3

Other silly things! Hes slightly shorter than Jekyll, but that's mainly bc he slouches a bit now. He also has a Scottish accent he can't really shake, especially after speaking with it so freely in the mindscape. Usually it's not too bad, but it gets much worse when hes tired or super on edge (usually from Jekyll and Hyde).

Also!! He has ticker-tape Synesthesia, which I actually HC for all three of them bc of that whiteboard panel in the mindscape (I'm so not normal about it). Ticker-tape Synesthesia is described as "automatically visualising written words in the form of subtitles when hearing other people speak. It can also occur with one’s own speech and/or with internal dialogue, i.e. verbal thinking.", and bc of how personal thoughts tend to manifest in the comic, I believe that their internal dialogues would be ticker-taped, along with prevalent thoughts/speaking from whoever is in shadow/mirror form.
