To also go off of the point about cop!akihiko being annoying to me I gotta say that Akihiko as a character is very hit or miss with me because of how different adaptations of p3 will subtly alter his character. I felt like in portable with the femc route he comes off best, he’s a bit of a hothead with an obsession with fighting, but he’s overcompensating his strength so he doesn’t feel as weak and helpless as he’s been in many situations. He defines strength in a very literal sense, being physically strong and using that to protect others, but he’s lacking in emotional strength as a result. And in particular in this version I think he’s portrayed as a bit more goofy and sweet in a sense. He cares deeply for you as a friend and leader but he struggles with finding the words to describe how he feels. Hes kinda naive and gullible and has trouble noticing his surroundings. He has no clue what he’s doing but his heart is in the right place. I think he just comes off much more human and he has flaws, many many flaws, and that makes him all the more lovable
But then in other adaptations and spinoffs it’s like. They look at him through some hetero male bullshit filter and seem to view him as a lot more admirable and cool. Like in p3 dancing, theres literally an event where he’s talking with Junpei and Minato and they’re gushing about how perfect Akihiko is and how he doesn’t seem to have ANY flaws at all. And it becomes clear his inability to flirt with women just gets added as a way to make sure you, the Straight Male Player, don’t get insecure being next to such Perfection because at the end of the day, you’re still more charming and sexy than he will ever be because you’re better. It’s a “flaw” that’s only there to shield a sensitive male ego. And then in arena I mean, come on. He’s overly beefy and is a damn cop and travels the world and loves Protein™️ it’s his whole personality and he’s so clearly meant to be seen as hot but like, he’s just some shitty hetero male fantasy. Hes what the writers deem to be a Perfect Man that every guy wishes he could be, but don’t worry he’s still bad with women so you don’t gotta worry about him stealing your property- I mean, girlfriend!
And though I’ve not played reload and don’t really plan to anytime soon, judging from his social episodes they seem to have a similar problem. Akihiko comes off as a lot less approachable, like the year age gap is just too much of a barrier to get to know him properly. And he doesn’t have that dorky sweetness he has in portable, he’s just that perfect hetero male fantasy guy and don’t you fucking worry- he still has his protein powder with him

It's honestly so fucking funny how dead Trinity Soul is. Almost every single piece of Persona media released since has been dedicated to making that poor twink noncannonical.

The thing that really peeves me with Yosuke’s scrapped romance is that because of it, he just comes across as a total ass in the game regarding sexuality. He feels like he was written to have internalized homophobia, and it would’ve been really emotional to see him finally face that part of himself and come to terms with it. Hell, it would’ve been realistic if he never came to terms with it. Have him grapple with it for the rest of the game, wanting to be close to the player romantically, but still struggling to accept it, and beating himself up over who he is. But since they actually scrapped the biggest part of that arc, the actual romance, he’s just a dick. Persona always has those moments where they seem like they’re gonna tackle something really serious and interesting and real, but then they destroy the outcome to badly that you kinda wished they never tried in the first place, since they ended up treating the topic so unbelievably poorly. They definitely wanted to do something with Yosuke, Kanji and Naoto, but something held them back. At the very least, the concepts that they placed down let the fandom create some real gold with them, and turn the ideas into something people resonate with.
Sorry for the anon rant oh god
Tumblr media
been staring at this ask for a few minutes now because you're right, you're so right. the romance link could have tied it up, it could've been such a good resolve. the internalized homophobia getting resolved would've been so nice. the game just feels like a world of missed opportunities when it comes to those themes and I'll be always bitter about it

maxed all affinities, requests and social links, defeated margaret (don't ask how many times that took.), and got the true ending of persona 4 including that sexy timeskip where you meet all the besties again 💆‍♀️ loooove that for me
#my 200+ hours playtime slay#ok but the fight with margaret was so crazy 😭 after failing like 4 times i looked what personas id be needing and after spending so much#money on the compedium and fusing personas i finally got my babygirl yoshitsune where would i be without you.....#and THEN i made it my mission to kill the reaper to get weapons for the besties and the best armor i could give them#even after that i first did the battle in very easy i was that desperate to win but after winning without margaret not even using#the megidolaon attack that fucks you over i did another save to win fr in normal mode and i did it ❤ i couldnt have lived with myself#otherwise 🙏#anyways i already said this before but i loved it sm. also funnily enough the only persona game i have finished even though it shouldnt be#long until i finish p5 considering i only gotta send shidos calling card#(never finished p3 because of oct 4th lol. but im planning on going past it too)#(also as an aside i loooooved how it was a sequel to p3 soooo much a lot more obvious after the margaret fight and with all the tanaka#mentions. like you can play at least the last 3 persona games separately but theres no connection like this with 5 so i wuv the details)#and i liked it a lot more the second time around too when i already loved it on my first playthrough#i dont think ill go back to it soon but i still gotta tackle the other games in the persona series so. it wont be over anytime soon 👍👍👍👍#my post

So I wasn't actually intending to take any smooch prompts other than what was already in my queue but then @sweetalissum replied to my post with
P4 YOU SAY??? Then I'm sliding in with my Yu senpai/Rise agenda. B)
and YOU KNOW WHAT I'M NOT GOING TO SAY NO TO FURTHERING THE YU/RISE AGENDA. Especially that I'm just getting ready to go do the Rise dungeon in my P4G playthrough and it was raining on Sunday it just seemed like a perfect combo 🤭🤭
I've been feeling real glum about my writing in general so doing these incredibly self-indulgent prompts for friends have been such a boon, thank you for the added bonus of letting me get back to my P4 roots with this one hehe
++++
Yu-senpai was right where the auntie said he would be beneath the awning. Rise watches him for a moment, studying the way his hands are folded demurely between his knees and his unfocused gaze is settled somewhere on the distant mountains. Or where the mountains would be. It’s raining, and the gray haze filling the Inaba region seems determined to take Yu-senpai with it.
Rise steps off the path to approach him. “Senpai!”
His head jerks up and his face swivels in her direction. There’s a beat, then the smile blossoms across his features as if the sun has emerged from behind the clouds. “Rise. What are you doing here?”
She spins the handle of her umbrella between her fingers, enjoying the cascade of water droplets. “One of our regulars recognized you as my friend and mentioned that you were stranded without an umbrella.”
“My weather-tracking game is slipping,” he admits.
“In your defense,” Rise says as she drops onto the bench beside him, “the weather said it wouldn’t rain until after eight this evening.” She offers him the hilt of the spare umbrella she had brought.
Yu-senpai takes it with a muttered word of thanks. “You didn’t have to come all the way out here to deliver it.”
Rise gasps in mock offense, pressing one hand to her chest and earning a chuckle in response. “And pass up the opportunity at being your rainy-day savior? I don’t think so.” She smiles and bumps her shoulder against his. “I was extremely tempted to bring only the one umbrella so you would have felt obligated to share with me back to Marukyu — where I would insist you could borrow the umbrella for the rest of your walk home. And then on Monday you would return the umbrella and bring me a bento and we could spend a nice lunch period on the roof.” She crosses one knee over the other and props her chin in the palm of her hand, winking up at his surprised expression.
She enjoys the way genuine amusement turns the corners of his lips up. “From anyone else, I’d be shocked that they had me so thoroughly figured out, but I expect nothing less from you.”
Rise blushes even though she had started it. “You know how to flatter a girl, Senpai,” she teases.
“I say it as I see it.” Yu-senpai rises to his feet and approaches the edge of the overhang. He extends a hand out into the rain before making a face and pulling back.
She rises as well to stand next to him. “What were you doing out here anyway?”
“Was running some errands around town, but the rain started before I could make it back to the bus stop.” The smile he turns towards her is that soft one he gets sometimes when he thinks no one is looking. He doesn’t hide it from her. “Knew I should have brought my scooter today.”
Yu-senpai proceeds to tuck the umbrella she lent him beneath his arm and leans over to pluck hers from her unsuspecting hands. He pops it open and holds it over his head, inspecting it.
Then, satisfied with whatever he sees, he holds his free hand out to her.
Rise’s protest as he stole her umbrella dies on her lips, and she stares at the open palm he offers in silent surprise. Her eyes roll slowly from it to meet his gaze — marveling for a moment how his eyes always seem more silver than gray, especially when he’s getting into mischief.
“What—?” she asks, for once not able to read the next move. This isn’t a battle she can predict the course of, and he seems to enjoy seeing her flustered confusion.
“I’m going to walk you back to Marukyu,” Yu-senpai says, taking her hand in his own when she takes too long to respond. With a gentle tug, he pulls her against his side to fit beneath the umbrella with her.
“Senpai!” Rise presses her hands to her cheeks, mortified to feel them warm. “What if someone sees?” She knows he’s got the eye of some other girls in his year, not to mention if any of her fans spot them. He could end up all over the message boards and she hates to think about what might happen then.
Yu-senpai hesitates, his touch drawing away. “Sorry,” he says softly. “I overstepped.”
With a speed born of months of practice, Rise does a quick scan of the area and makes up her mind when she finds it empty. The paparazzi have petered out recently, and any of their classmates already know that they’re close.
And besides, she came all this way with the intention of having a moment with him. Why not take full advantage of it, if he was willing?
Rise doesn’t let him pull away. She loops her arm through his and peers up at him. “It’s fine,” she tells him honestly. “I’m just still getting used to it.”
“Getting used to what?” he asks with a laugh, though she can tell the tension eases from his shoulders.
“Genuine affection,” she replies, then tugs him out from beneath the safety of the picnic awning and into the steady rainfall. “So, tell me, what’s the game plan after you walk me back to Marukyu?”
Yu-senpai stumbles after her and for a moment they’re both victim to the warm September rain. But then he’s back at her side and holding the umbrella over her, ignoring the fact that his own shoulder is getting wet. “Well, I was thinking I might buy some tofu, since I’m there.”
Rise nods in understanding. “Since you’ll be there.”
“And then maybe on Sunday evening I’ll make some chakin sushi. So when I see you at school on Monday I can return the umbrella you so graciously let me borrow and I would offer you my bento as an added thanks.” He turns his quicksilver grin down to her. “If that will be okay with you?”
She answers his grin with one of her own and hugs his arm a little tighter. “I think that sounds perfect.”

Writing Notes: Point of View
Point of view (POV) - the position from which the events of a story are observed.
The author establishes point of view through the use of characters, dialogue, actions, setting, and events.
Authors rarely speak in their own voices. Instead, they assume a particular persona and adopt a "voice" that enables them to narrate their stories and novels. This voice is called point of view.
4 Common Points of View
1. Omniscient 2. Limited Omniscient:
Major character
Minor character
3. Objective 4. First Person:
Major character
Minor character
OMNISCIENT
The story is told in the third person ("he," "she," "it") by a narrator who knows everything about the characters, actions, and events.
The narrator is able to move in time and place, to shift from character to character, and to reveal or conceal as little or as much as he or she pleases.
This type of narrator is "all knowing."
Example from "Godfather Death:"
"He ought to have remembered his godfather's warning."
The narrator has unlimited knowledge, even knowing the mind of Death, and he comments on and evaluates the doctor as he is dying.
LIMITED OMNISCIENT
The story is also told in the third person, but only from the viewpoint of a single character, whether a major or minor one.
The author selects which character to see through, and the narrator is confined to knowing only the thoughts and actions of that character.
Such a character is the "lens" through which events pass in the story.
Example from Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary:
"Charles went upstairs to see the patient. He found him in bed, seating under blankets, his nightcap lying where he had flung it....The fracture was a simple one, without complications of any kind. Charles couldn't have wished for anything easier. Then he recalled his teachers' bedside manner in accident cases, and proceeded to cheer up his patient...."
It is only through Charlie's eyes that readers "see" and learn about the patient.
OBJECTIVE
The story is told in third person, but the narrator does not enter the mind of any character.
The narrator objectively describes events from the outside.
The reader is left to infer the character's inner thoughts and feelings.
The narrator knows which details to use to communicate deep meaning.
Example from Dashiell Hammett's the Maltese Falcon:
"Spade's thick fingers made a cigarette with deliberate care, sifting a measured quantity of tan flakes down into curved paper, spreading the flakes so that they lay equal at the ends with a slight depression in the middle...."
Readers must infer that Spade is deliberate, cool, efficient, and painstaking during a crisis; the author never uses those adjectives to describe Spade.
FIRST PERSON
The story is told in first person ("I"), through the thoughts and feelings of the narrator, not anyone else's.
What reaches the reader is subjective.
So, more important than whether the narrator is a major or minor character is the narrator's reliability.
An unreliable narrator can present a distorted picture of events; a reliable one can render events with accuracy.
Example from Aesop's Ant and the Grasshopper:
"Cold and hungry, I watched the ant tugging over the snow a piece of corn he had stored up last summer. My feelers twitched, and I was conscious of a tic in my left hind leg. Finally I could bear it no longer. 'Please, friend ant,' I asked, 'may I have a bit of your corn?"
Readers only know the thoughts and feelings of the grasshopper. They know nothing about what the ant thinks or how the ant feels.
Determining Point of View
The attitudes and opinions of a narrator aren't necessarily those of the author.
Don't confuse a character with the author.
To determine point of view, ask who the narrator is and what pronoun the author attaches to the narrator.
Also ask yourself what role, if any, the narrator plays.
By using a particular point of view, an author determines how much the narrator reveals about the characters.

idk if i'm misremembering or if image search is failing me but i really do think the school had some imperfections and dirt everywhere on purpose. especially on the doors and near the floors. also the colors were super dull and muted in the school but in a way that worked really well because it really helps aid the Small Town Where It Rains A Lot vibe Inaba has. not necessarily poor or run-down, just very well used, not as clean as say shujin which is located in the big city. evil part of me thinks a remake would just whitewash all the walls and have the halls be really well lit
they can't make a persona 4 remake because i know for a fact that they're going to make yasogami high look way too clean
