Rereading the early chapters is fun, because you think there's a sort of funny scene coming up and then Kim Sunghan mentions his college days in passing and Yoojin thinks wouldn't it be nice to go to college. And then follows it up with I Need To Get Drunk.

i hate the 'homophobic snape' thing a lot in general, i mean it's worth noting basically his only friend through most of the books is also the only gay character lol.
but the truth about snape is he doesn't give a shit about stuff like that. I don't think he would have rly known about it if (big if) any of the marauders were gay-- like being 100% realistic I don't think as a teenager in the 70s he'd be above using homophobia as an insult if it was someone he hated. but also if it was someone he was friends with (mulciber) he would be accepting/not care. similar to the werewolf thing, i don't doubt he was frequently extremely vicious and offensive to remus about it but if it had been someone he liked (so lily or mulciber) who was a werewolf he would have been pretty accepting of it imo. if it was a random student he wouldn't have cared.
that being said i often dislike homophobia plots in fic in general because they always seem so gratuitous and over the top. it's obviously using snape as a mouthpiece for the most extreme vile (and out of character) views so that the marauders are justified in bullying him. like i don't think he was woke and politically correct (clearly) but be fr he doesn't care that much. and it's not that i don't think people should explore homophobia in their own writing, obviously, explore away, this is just why i personally dislike the way it's handled a lot of the time. it just so often feels contrived and insensitive to me, kind of misery porn-ish if that makes any sense. like to what extent is it necessary i guess

I would like to both thank and blame tumblr for the phrase "turn slow tigers into fast tigers with this one neat trick!" Like, I am grateful for it as a mnemonic that stuck that reminds me to go punch the punching bag* when I get too stressed out and can't function well from acute stress, but also I can no longer refer to it any other way because when I get that stressed I have trouble with words Which means today I was putting on my wrap gloves and my brother was looking at me like "what are you doing?" and all I could say was "turning slow tigers into fast tigers" *I think the original post was about taking a short run or tensing all your muscles and then releasing them? But my response to stress is very much not flight lol
#the person behind the yarn#it worked though!! and he's on tumblr so he knew what I meant#are they called wrap gloves? wrist wraps?? hand wraps???#the wraps like you'd wear under boxing gloves but in glove form themselves instead of a long strip of fabric#and with padding on the knuckles#back before I got sick I used to do what was pretty much MMA sparring#in that that was not the specific style we were learning but once a week we had sparring hour#and like half the people that came were MMA dudes#which also means I can say (I find this hilarious but my sister doesn't)#I have only been punched in the face by three people: a toddler. my sister. and a professional MMA fighter#that dude got SO MUCH GRIEF from the rest of the class for even barely hitting my face. it was hilarious#I was probably the youngest person in the sparring group by well over a decade they were super nice#today was my first time hitting the punching bag in like...8-9 months?#I stayed away from it while I was anemic because that seemed a bad idea#and it was great!!! my new meds meant I could use the punching bag for more than like two minutes at a time!#and it didn't skyrocket my heart rate!!! or at least not as badly!!!#so I think I will get back into using it more often

I'm live and let live for the most part despite appearances, but I have to say the damage fucking,,,, the slytherin skittles as a concept has done to other peripheral characters in the marauders era? Unmatched. Is it bad that y'all are making up headcanons about these characters? Admittedly no, you can do whatever you want forever just like me. HOWEVER Is it really annoying that Every Single Character has to have a knock off marauders friend group now? Yes. Does it annoy me that characters who could be so much more complex than they are keep getting used as fodder for relationship drama with fucking Jegulus of all ships? Undoubtedly. Does it piss me off to see characters, particularly female characters, w being used to prop up death eaters who frankly are not half as interesting? Very Much So.

#ask#anon#mumblings#not sure if ive mentioned before but one of my earliest exposures to ersl was from a super old humanstuck slkt fic#its been 2yrs since i last read it so i may have misremembered the details and thereby fudge this description but#the premise had slkt being poor living together w karkat working his ASS off to the boneeee barely afloat providing for both him and sollux#they're dating but sollux was v mentally ill + extremely distraught and depressed after accidentally killing aradia in a car crash#he became confined to his room and when he wasnt bedridden he was physically and verbally lashing out at karkat. its heavy and upsetting#meanwhile karkat was churning multiple jobs just to sustain them - he's hurt stressed and in pain from losing the sollux he once knew#but he still insists on staying bc he cares abt sollux. then after a few months of this sollux's dad refused to keep paying for his meds ??#the bill was so expensive kaRKAT BROKE DOWN AND COULDNT TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!!!!! i forgot what happened immediately afterwards but#they split and sollux gets kicked out (?) while karkat slowly recovers from the sheer survival mode trauma of the whole experience.#then ~Timeskip to the future~ where karkat finds out sollux's mental health improved significantly.... & that he's happily dating eridan :D#UGH. cant help but laugh just thinking about it.#bcs iirc sollux explains to karkat how eridan is loaded asf and can easily afford all the necessary medications sollux needed to get better#thats how the fic concludes btw. karkat still alone with eridan suddenly getting inserted as sol's uber lucky rich bf benefactor#like gawdd. this is THE funniest possible way of adapting the “slkt lowblood vs ersl high/lowblood” dynamic to its closest human equivalent#i hope i didnt just hallucinate this whole thing pls i cannot for the life of me remember much other than that twist ending#decade-old darkfic demonstrating relationship between class poverty mental illness and the american healthcare system! still relevant today

literally what a day i am still shaking
#i didn’t realize how scary it would be to teach for the first time😭#like i feel like my social anxiety has gotten so much better over the last few years but this was like.#social anxiety on Crack#i did do really well like i think you’d barely even be able to tell i was nervous#just bc when i’m scared i kind of disassociate and go on auto-pilot so i usually seem fine#but like. i have been replaying every second of it in my brain all day nitpicking for places i messed up#and this one guy made a Comment when i walked in which did not help#genuinely overall it went so well and everyone was so nice#but still. SCARY😭#luckily (?) i will be teaching 4 days a week for the next 2 years.#so i will have plenty of time to get used to it lmao#it’s weird bc i tutor so often but turns out small groups of Children online#is very different than a full class of 18-19 year olds😭#anyway. hopefully i will get Less nervous bc i would hate to feel like this every day
