headcannon - Tyler totally kisses Kate’s scar.
Okay, so this is a few years down the line, they’re an established couple and marriage is this distant but not far thing, the important thing is they’re happy and content and okay and that’s a rare thing for people like them. Over the years everyone’s slowly healed, Kate got therapy, Javi got therapy, they actually talked and slowly dealt with everything. So, she eventually starts wearing shorts more and more often. The scar is still this big reminder of everything that happened, but she’s slowly learning to accept it. Then, Tyler starts doing this thing where when the two of them are together, (Kate’s watching the news or reading and his head is in her lap, just cuddling her because that man’s love language is gifts and touch) he presses a kiss to her scar. At first she doesn’t even notice because it’s a quick barely there thing, like it’s a subconscious movement almost.
And then Kate notices, and she notices it happens so damn often. Like Tyler’s barely aware and at the same time it’s almost worshiping, like it’s second hand nature to love the thing that for years she hated with a passion. And he just keeps don’t it, and brushing his fingers against the scar, and staring at it with this barely concealed awe and she doesn’t not get it.
So Kate finally snaps and asks him why? And she’s really asking, why do you love the worst part of me, because the scar to her represents her failure and how it lead to her friend’s deaths. Tyler just stares at her, because to him it is so simple and easy he stopped questioning it years ago, because it means you survived. And he’s really saying, because it means you’re here and alive and I got to love you, I got to be loved by you.
And he’s really saying, your survival is beautiful and I love you for it.
(Somebody steal my computer and phone, I have so many thoughts about these idiots.)

@thresholdbb omg tumblr ate your ask but thankyou for asking!!!!
👕Character whose fashion you like.
Phoar! Startrek really isn't a show I associate with being fashionable. It's very camp isn't it? In theory a lot of the wardrobe is really cool and they wanted to gain that retro-future aesthetic. Did it work? I'm not sure. However it does make a statement. The Startrek aesthetic is really recognizable and that's important! I think that's where modern trek kind of looses the plot. It's not as careful about the unique visual design as a whole anymore and as a result it doesn't settle in our minds. Is it bad artistry? No but it's not as stringent. What I mean by that is older trek cared about nuance. For example every haircut was done the same way on men, or suits were tailored in a way to look sleek but practical (they weren't). Gaudy patterns were important to denote things like status. It looks ugly on the outside but when you're watching the show it envelops you and makes you feel welcomed into the universe.
I digress.
To answer this, the most fashionable character, hands down, is Quark! That mfer always looks good, and has the finest drip in the galaxy. Love that.
🥲 ST moment that makes you cry.
youtube
There are two moments that make me particularly sad. Kate's acting in the climax of Resistance is incredible. I read somewhere she had a special-wink-wink- relationship with the Director in the early seasons and she was being tested by this episode in some regard. I think it paid off. I treasure any time her captain-hood is removed, and the extreme vulnerability of Janeway is on display-MWAH MWAH poignant. This episode is beautifully intimate, particularly this scene. It's overall gorgeous and unique in how she whispers to him, as if there is nothing more important than to secure his peace of mind as he dies, and it's heart rending when it ends with her just crouching there, emotionally alone. I love how Janeway is forced into the father-daughter dynamic between her and Caylem, one that she would ordinarily resist (heh themes) because I think it inherently weakens her status. The back and forth throughout the episode of them taking care of each other's welfare is so it's terribly sad when it's torn down and we discover the truth behind Caylem's family. If you've dug around her character you know that her Admiral-Father has had impact on her life. She's haunted by him in both a figurative way by being a Captain, and literal sense later on in Coda. Much like Caylem, she looses her father in a violent manner that she has to carry around while she forges ahead. It also reflects well on Kate's relationship with her actual father, she recently revealed that she was never able to get him on her page, but in spite that she adore him with all her might. So a scene like this is really revealing-I believe she was able to draw upon those feelings and that's kinda neat to be so raw as an actor. SIGH.
This one just straight up made me cry fr because Prodigy s1 is a really mature, well done piece of (Startrek) media. Holo Janeway has an irony about it where in the end she is program designed to be a teacher, and she didn't expect to develop a strong bond with the crew. Her final moments are of displaying a huge amount of selflessness and courage to help the kids get out of trouble, similarly to how Janeway would approach dire circumstances. The music swelling and the ship activating is just OOOOF!!! I love how it parallels Dal's initiation of the first Protojump in a Moral Star. By that means It suggests how proud she is to get to do this for them. As a character she is really interesting to think about, in a way I can't entirely articulate. A lot of her moments are quite sad in general, she has to keep an active role so she isn't ignored, and help where help is needed, but at the same time she has constraints, one being that she manipulated by the antagonists. And In contrast to that, the kids do their best to help her feel like she is important and more than a command program to be used insincerely. She grew to love the Protostar crew, that's evident in her body language in this scene. She has a lot of depth overall. Equal to the real Janeway she deeply feels love, guilt and pain, but importantly she is transformed by the her time on the Protostar and while active, learns and grows with Dal, Rok-tak, Zero, Jankom and Gwyn. It's REALLY sweet that they care all care about each other.
I love her and I love JANEWAY!!!!
🥹 Favourite behind the scenes picture.
Ooooh I love all behind the scenes stuff. My brother in Christ It's super difficult to just name one thing and I'm very greedy!! I wish we had more BTS content for Voyager but sadly, it's a matter of grab what you can, however you can. Anyway, I have an inherent interest in seeing the cogs behind the wheel. I chose these samples because I think they're charming.
The continuity polaroid's are so fun and a lost technique, I like to think about assistants having to pull the actors aside and asking them to take those. How daunting! Kate's grin in the one where she is offset is SO cute. So she must have been in a good mood, super Cheeky!
Following that is a screenshot from a video of her having her makeup done. A rare catch. I like this because she often sooks about how much time hair and makeup was spent on her to become Captain Janeway. I get it's a huge time-sink, but love or hate it, the full irony is that her early season appearance is really iconic and in it's own right adds to Captain Janeway's sensibility. Silly goose Kate! Besides that, she looks hot checking herself out, haha.
Moreover, I love on-set editorial photos of actors in costume. While we did have heaps of them in the Starfleet uniform, I wish we had a larger collection with clearer releases, it would have given an opportunity to see in things of interest better detail. Particularly the lower half of unique costumes. For whatever reason special outfits weren't often established or framed for us to see the legs in the show, so a nice big photograph would have solved that. Also I love that these style of pictures capture an impression of an episode without giving it away.
Similarly, fly on the wall on-set photos are cool. They're way more intimate and candid than anything else and it makes me feel as though I am spying on the actors, but they're also a good way to document how things might have been on set.
The Timeless one is interesting too because it's of a deleted scene, we never see Chakotay look at a dead Janeway (how deliciously macabre!), but at some point in time it was in the script and they filmed it.
Hmm this bts picture of Janeway in the Cardigan is adorable! I believe it was worn by Kate for a Charity but look how cute she looks? Makes me wish we saw her mess around with things like that more because 7 Years is a long ass time to be in uniform everyday ( coming from someone who went to school in a Uniform and enjoyed it for the most part). Casual Fridays anyone?
I love this gif. It's from the first shoots of Caretaker and Kate looks so radiant! Her smile is is breathtaking! Whenever I see this gif I get a sense of delight. Poor thing had no idea what she was getting herself into, haha. Really though, check out the original Caretaker photos, they're super-cool. The history behind it is fascinating; I'd love to see more footage from that version of the pilot episode. Unfortunately, it's probably not preserved well, much like lots of Paramount's historical material.
On a similar trend, it's fun to see this set of pictures too. It's for the First Contact film / maybe the Universal studios ride, when she reprised her role as Vice AdmiralJaneway. Kate was genuinely delighted to do this cameo and it shows. As per her operandum she put her whole self into this small segment and that's so darling. It makes me wish we had more of this Janeway at that point in time. I love post Endgame chubby-Janeway. In a fictional sense it denotes that she is comfortable or stressed to be an Admiral (sadly it's the latter in real life) or whatever and I love that for her.
These kind of pictures are fun because it's been said that at times it was the most playful set to be on. There are tales that the cast were not that serious all the time. You get that impression here, and it's probably why the majority of them are still good friends to this day. They're like a family bros!!! Having worked in media I know that wrapping up after working on something for a long time is really rewarding and I bet they had a good time at parties.
Apropos previous, the opposite can be said. While they had fun, the hours were long and the scripts intensive. Kate was around for all of the episodes of Voyager in one way or another, and still managed to bring her A-game each time. She is truly admirable! Seeing her so exhausted is charming. She had a lot of weight to carry for the franchise and did an exemplary job performing her way through 7 years of weird and wonderful material. I wonder how often they fell asleep on set? I know I would. Get some rest queen!
Finally, I've been following Prodigy bts as best I can, and because of my career in animation I get pretty interested in Production art. I love seeing the fast metamorphosis of a visual style. It's really impressive how much attention they applied to the designs, maintaining the older stuff, while adapting a new frontier. One of the lead artists made some pretty neat observations to get Kate's appearance right. It's so cool that they documented that journey, because from my dabbling I know she has a very beautiful, distinct face that isn't easy to capture.
ANYWAY Thankyou for reading my fat thesis fellas. tl;dr i love this stinky Startrek Voyager and by extension the franchise.
#I AM SO SORRY FOR THIS WALL OF TEXT I HAVE A LOT TO SAY AND I THINK ABOUT THIS DARN SHOW A LOT#also my bad it's mostly voyager but it's my true love#hope you can make sense of this I'm fairly illiterate and writing is so hard for me lol that's why i write more than is probably necessary#i like the other trek shows but this one is something special if you know what i mean#appreciate you if you read all this MWAH MWAH#thankyou for the ask thresholdbb ily!!!#Thresholdbb#Kathryn Janeway#janeway#star trek voyager#star trek prodigy#st:voy#kate mulgrew#no sources for this you just gotta trust im a big fat expert :^)#i really need an editor my dyslexic-a jumbles up and forgets words when i write its so embarassing#i have a pretty large collection of pictures now but i could always use more#i also should probably save videos where i can because they get buried / removed from the internet

Learning to Trust Again
art by @/shadowmisfire | divider by @/chachachannah
Scarecrow is visited by a new friend who brings him a gift.
Word count: 1,079 words
Scarecrow lay in the darkness, curled up into the corner as tightly as he possibly could, cursing his masters for their decisions. Of all the things for us to share, the ability to feel pain is one they had to give… Every part of his body ached, his joints creaking in protest as he shifted, trying to get comfortable under the pile of cushions.
While he certainly was not going to turn down the opportunity to live once again, he certainly had not missed the physical pains that came with life. While his kind were certainly made to be healed at least once, a second time was mostly unheard of, and being brought back from the dead was thought to be impossible… until he found himself back on his home planet with a human ship several hundred feet away.
He shifted again, his neck stiff against the pillow which provided little comfort against the wooden slats. A human shelter would never have been his first choice but he was not going to reject shelter. He was wiser than that. Any shelter was better than no shelter, especially considering the weather patterns of Alpha Centauri had been rainy lately. Rain would not help his body at all.
A noise, shuffling of small feet against dirt. His sensors lit up like explosions, alerting him to a possible threat. Despite his aching body, he was up in an instant, lasers powering up, ready to fight for his newly given life.
“Scarecrow…? It’s me. I wanted to check on you.” The barn door creaked open, Kate’s silhouette bright against the dim atmosphere outside.
He forced himself to relax, powering down his lasers and tucking his upper arms back into their place. He realized his body was shivering and his joints flaring, being reminded of electricity coursing through them. You’re not in danger. You’re fine. She’s not going to hurt you. This mantra repeated in his head over and over again, trying to remind him that this was not a bad human.
He took a moment to force himself to focus on her as she gently closed the door behind her, then approached the ladder that led to his loft. “Can I come up?”
He slowly approached the ledge and peered over, staring down at the human. She stared right back up at him, blinking slowly, waiting for his permission.
He gestured for her to climb, then retreated back to his corner, listening to her footsteps and light humming.
She approached him slowly and carefully. Scarecrow assumed he scared her - he was much bigger and stronger than she was. He could easily rip her to shreds if he wanted to. And yet, despite his assumption, she didn’t seem to actually fear him in any way. Her cautiousness seemed almost… respectful, in a way.
She smiled warmly at him, eyes crinkling, and held out something - he had not noticed it tucked under her arm before.
A blanket.
“I thought you might want this,” she said, still smiling. There - that was a hint of nervousness. His first meeting with her after she had offered the barn to him was similar - that never-disappearing smile, a sign of her not knowing how to handle what she had gotten herself into.
He craned his neck to get a better look at it - the material seemed soft, dyed a dark red with white symbols scattered across it. The human interpretation of stars, he noted. He stayed where he was, staring at the blanket, then looking up at her. What would I need a blanket for?
Kate’s smile disappeared, her brow furrowed, and she pursed her lips. “I-I’m sorry, I figured the cushions aren’t much protection against the cold. Maybe you don’t even get cold… but something soft might still be a comfort to you.”
He tilted his head to the side, curiosity getting the better of him, then reached forward slowly. Taking the blanket from her outstretched hand, he felt his claws gently trace along her rough soft fingers as he drew his arm back. Scarecrow held the blanket up in front of his screen, inspecting it further.
A comfort. That was a good word to use for the blanket. He had always been fond of red, and the blanket was a nice shade. While he scoffed at the crudely shaped stars, he still liked the way the white broke up the continuous red and formed a nice pattern. He finally drew the blanket up to his chest and began to knead it, enjoying the feeling of the material under his claw.
Scarecrow glanced back up after a few moments to see Kate smiling again, a much more relaxed smile than before. “I’m glad you like it.” She turned and began to walk toward the ladder, waving to him at the same time. “Let me know if you need anything else, Scarecrow. You know where to find me.” As she began her descent down the ladder, Scarecrow found himself feeling more trustful of a human than he had in a long, long time.
“Thank you,” he rumbled.
Kate paused momentarily, turning back to face him, eyebrows raised. “Well… you’re welcome.” She gave him a small smile before turning back and climbing down the ladder. He listened carefully as she exited the barn, the sound of her footsteps and quiet humming fading into the rain.
Well, she was certainly right about the blanket. He was much more relaxed than he had been in a long time. He began to knead the blanket with both of his lower arms, feeling a rumbling starting up deep in his chest as he enjoyed the texture.
Maybe, just maybe, he thought, this source of purring isn’t just because of the blanket. An image of Kate smiling warmly at him flitted through his mind, but he quickly squashed that thought back down into the dark recesses of his memories; he certainly wasn’t ready to deal with that whole situation yet.
He would, in time.
How that would go, he had no clue. But he knew he had her patience, and she had given him all the time in the world to build up his trust.
Soon, perhaps, we can get to know her better, he thought, settling back down into the cushions with the blanket wrapped in his arms. The pattering of rain continued as he was lulled into rest mode, thoughts of Kate’s smile warming him from the inside out.

Soooooo I just found out that Mike Coulter—David Acosta himself—is gonna be at a con I always attend in March. Y’all know what this means?
It means that I have 3ish months to put together a demon sigil skirt
And the shirt I joked about making with all the character names
And then I need to meet him while wearing it all
THIS IS GONNA FUCKING HAPPEN OKAY. I AM MANIFESTING THE SUCCESS OF THIS.
(who knows, maybe I’ll find some more Evil fans along the way)
(am I lowkey hoping he thinks the skirt is fucking awesome and takes a picture and sends it to Katja and maybe even the Kings? fuck yeah I am, even if it’s extremely unlikely. dream big, right?)

Title: and when i’m back in chicago i feel it (another version of me)
Fandom: NCIS: Hawai'i
Relationship: Lucy Tara/Kate Whistler
Rating: General
Chapter Word Count: 8,601
Chapter: 3/5
[read from the beginning]
Chapter Summary: Once they are back in the car, Lucy rests a hand on Kate’s arm, stopping her from starting it. “Hey,” she says, furrowing her brow, “can I ask you something?”
“‘Course, anything,” Kate says immediately, her own eyebrows furrowing as she turns her entire body to give Lucy her full attention. It makes warmth curl in Lucy’s stomach.
“Why didn’t you tell your parents about joining the FBI?” Lucy asks quietly.
Kate’s face flickers through many different expressions before settling on resignation, her eyes drifting past Lucy’s shoulder with a sigh. “It’s complicated,” she says.
Lucy runs her hand down Kate’s arm until she can lace her fingers together, tucking one leg under her and twisting so she can face Kate fully. It’s a little uncomfortable, and she knows her hips and knees are going to be stiff later, but it’s worth it to see the way that Kate smiles a little at the gesture. “I’ve got time,” she says, running her thumb soothingly over the back of Kate’s hand.

I have this deranged idea like,, there’s not nearly enough sapphic content in the COD fandom and the fact that I’ve been gifted a Medusa necklace has awoken smth inside me.
Insert my obsession with mythology and fantasy and my brain produced a sweet little plot.
Like a story about Medusa! Valeria haunting the city grounds and each year, someone is sacrificed to keep her content and not attack the city. They tend to always pick a man because in their eyes, it’s what she needs. Though that’s not what Valeria is after, angry and bitter at the betrayal of her people, the hurt she had undergone with no one believing her. She was an outcast, shunned by the goddess she had served before even if it was a mean to protect her.
Until one year, the daughter of the Mayor’s name is pulled (kinda like the hunger games reaping). She’s blind and a liability for the town since they consider her just another mouth to feed while already facing a dire harvest that year.
Bam! They push her down into Valeria’s pit and they slowly learn to tolerate each other and eventually fall in love

Night in New York
Kate Bishop & Yelena Belova S01E06 Aftermath, Missing Scene, Drunken Bonding
Kate scrubbed at her face as she stared out the window. Clint was asleep in the other room, but she couldn’t sleep after everything. She wanted- she wanted to get absolutely shitfaced and forget that yesterday had ever happened.
She paused, remembering her earlier conversation, and pulled out her phone. She scrolled until she hit an unknown number and hesitated. Yelena probably hadn’t ditched her phone yet, and she could use the company.
kb: If you were serious about earlier
She carefully typed out an address and hit send before she could change her mind. Then she turned her phone off and tossed it away. She didn’t need a response.
Kate had been sitting alone at the bar, sipping something purple and alcoholic, when Yelena appeared behind her. Kate wordlessly waved her to a bar stool. She didn’t speak until Yelena had fully settled in beside her. Kate glanced away from her, fixing her gaze to the bar.
“I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Nor do I, Kate Bishop.”
Kate waved a tired hand. “Just Kate. We’re drinking together and nobody’s dead. That probably makes us friends.”
Yelena knocked back her drink. “Fine. Kate.”
They kept light conversation and drinks flowing for a while before getting kicked out. They swore up and down they hadn’t started that fight, but it hadn’t mattered to the manager.
They were laughing by the end of it though. It was a significant improvement to Kate’s mood.

So I recently discussed with a moot (hey @sillyliterature thank you so much for being interested!) that I am in fact published and am writing a YA fantasy series!
Say hello to "The Coward's Emblem".
A single lie can destroy an entire Empire… The Mekshi Empire is teetering on the edge of civil war, and the legendary Shield, the protector of the Empire, is missing. The Lances of the Sovereign, a squad of elite knights, are desperately scouring the land while a shadow, the Merciless, thought to be gone forever, is rising. A coward might be the only one who can save them all.
Below are minor spoilers in the form of commissioned art of the characters by Sabri (@itsadragon_art on instagram) + the book 1 dragons by @ketolic !
#the coward's emblem#A.D. Guier#it me!#kitty writes a thing#my publisher is a middle aged white man and tr@nsphobic adjacent#so he made me change emperor to sovereign when he found out the emperor was a woman#like REALLY ugh#Patricia C Wrede was out there calling m/f dragons Kings back in the 90s or 80s or whenever#Kate Elliott had female Princes in her Crown of Stars books#in the early aughts#but NOOOO gotta use emperor/empress eff you i refused sovereign it is

It’s kinda weird that “mafia boss has a relationship with actor after watching all her work while on the lam from the government” hasn’t become a premise for a movie considering that’s exactly what happened with Kate Del Castillo and El Chapo.
#i guess i gotta write this is what i’m saying#anyway happy birthday kate del castillo you’re the reason why many latino men are attracted to resting bitch face

I think I may have already posted about this, but I went through all my digital files a while back to see what I could find of my old NaNoWriMo projects, and theres two books completely missing and one I can only find half of
and I know that this isn't how the human brain works but it feels like all of the projects I have full files of, I can remember. If not all the details then at least the main gist of how those stories went. but the files that are missing digitally feel like they're also missing from my brain. I remember writing them but I do not remember what happens in them
#if i was given UBI for one full year with the stipulated that i had to work on my writing in that time#I would want to finally finish In Memory#which is that story i've been mentally working on ever since i was in elementary school. yknow? everyones got one of those right#then I would focus on Tidal Light which is a concept I really like but I think needed to be fleshed out better#and then I would try desperately to figure out what the heck I was doing with Vina#I cannot remember anything about that book except it was set in the same world as Tidal Light#and there was a lesbian romance plot#i GOTTA figure out what that story was about lmao#I could probably rework Ghost Story into something usable#I would love to have any inkling of what I did for the book length Coffee Pirates story#TiWiLL is literally already on my AO3 as a bad rough draft and maybe deserves a rewrite#Burden of Proof I will miss but it was just an American book adaptation of a japanese show. i'll just rewatch the show#and it makes me sad but Princess Kate can be scrapped altogether#maybe someday I'll find a new angle to rewrite that concept from that's less ableist yknow

Hard to Handle
Pairing: Joel Miller x f!reader one-shot
Summary: One year after Joel cheats on you and gets someone else pregnant, you run into him for the first time.
Warnings: pre-outbreak au, angst, language, infidelity, female rage, alcohol consumption, open/ hopeful ending but reader and Joel do not end up together
WC: 2.5K
Written for @tightjeansjavi's June writing challenge
"Guess who Neil saw at the pediatrician?"
You cracked open one eye and bringing your hand up to shield you from the sun, squinted over at your best friend, Kate. "Who?"
She grinned and sat up in her lounge chair. "Joel."
You made a face and closed your eyes again. "Don't care."
"He was all alone, Nate said. Looked like he was struggling to keep the baby quiet in the waiting room and he also said he looked tired as shit."
"Good."
"C'mon, aren't you the least bit curious?"
You made an exasperated noise and sat up in your chair to face her. "What's the point? He made his bed, he can lie in it."
Kate sighed and pulled out her phone. "Well, I was curious so I looked him up on Facebook and guess what?"
"I don't-"
"The bitch left him!" she exclaimed, showing you Joel's Facebook profile where it clearly stated his relationship status was single and the profile picture was an old one from high school. You snorted and shook your head.
"It's been almost a year, what do you want me to say?"
"I want you to feel happy that he's fucking miserable, that's what," Kate said, picking up the baby monitor at her feet and zooming in on the screen, checking to make sure her six month old was still asleep.
"Okay, fine. I'm happy he's fucking miserable," you replied before taking sip of your lemonade. "It's not fair to the baby, though."
"Oh, of course not," Kate said immediately, "but after what he did to you, you can't deny that this is karma kicking his ass."
You shrugged and looked down at your hands, picking at something imaginary underneath your nail. It had been almost a year since you left Joel. A full year when you found out, after being together since junior year in high school, that Joel had cheated on you and gotten someone else pregnant.
Well, found out probably isn't the right term. He flat out confessed one morning.
You had woken up and reached out for him, your hand running up and down his bare chest. You inched forward and buried your nose against his side, breathing in deep his natural, masculine scent before slowly dragging your hand underneath the covers to the waistband of his boxers. You didn't even realize he was awake yet until his hand suddenly shot out and stopped you.
"What's wrong?" you asked, sleep still permeating your voice.
"Nothin'."
You opened your eyes and looked up at him. He was wide awake and staring at the ceiling.
"Joel?"
He slowly turned his head to look at you and at the same time, one single tear slid from the corner of his eye. You scrambled up into a sitting position, panic singing in your veins.
"What's wrong?" you asked again, harsher this time. He swallowed and slowly sat up.
"I gotta tell you somethin'."
Your pulse began to race as all the possibilities ran through your mind, but what he said next was never what you had expected to hear.
"I slept with someone else and... she's pregnant."
You remembered in that moment it had felt like time stood still. The birds stopped chirping, the lawn mowers stopping running, the laughter outside your window ceased because the world as you knew it just ended.
After that, your memory was a little hazy.
You were sure you said some terrible things as you packed up all your belongings in a rage. The terms motherfucking piece of shit and fucking loser were tossed around more than once. You do remember preemptively accusing him of giving you an STD because he chased around whores and as you were walking out the door, you told him he would be a terrible father because he was still acting like a child himself.
Joel didn't say a single thing back. He stood there the entire time and took it, each word landing like a blow across the jaw. You weren't sure what pissed you off more: the fact that he didn't say anything or that he didn't even try to make you stay.
After you had a few weeks to reflect on it, you came to the conclusion that he must have been looking for a reason to break up and he was too chickenshit to do it himself, so he found a way to make you do it.
You blocked him on everything you could think of and pushed him from your mind. His name was banned in every conversation you had with your friends and family and as time went on, you managed to heal. You found a cute little apartment in downtown Austin and began hanging out more with your friends. You even went on a few dates with a couple different guys but nothing ever managed to stick, and you were fine with that. You actually preferred it. Being single was something you weren't familiar with and now, in your mid twenties, you were actually having a really fun time getting to know yourself again.
After so much time had passed, you really thought you were over it. Even after Kate shared that news with you, you still barely had a reaction. You were proud of yourself and feeling good. Joel was the furthest thing from your mind when you met some friends out for drinks that Friday night after work. The bar was crowded, but that wasn't unusual. It was one of the most popular spots downtown and your friend, Shannon, got there before the rest of you and managed to grab a small table.
"Are you still seeing that guy? The one with the cats?" Mel asked Shannon, and she shook her head.
"Ghosted me," she replied, making a sour face. You both pouted in return and you rubbed her back.
"Fuck him. There's plenty of other guys out there. Hell, there's plenty of guys right fucking here," you giggled and gestured behind her towards the packed bar. You noticed one guy in particular with sandy blonde hair and blue eyes glancing her way every few minutes and you nudged her foot under the table and jutted your chin in his direction. "Exhibit A."
She looked over her shoulder and smiled shyly before looking back at the two of you.
"I don't know..." she said hesitantly, then bit her lip and looked at him again. This time, the guy winked at her and she blushed.
"Come on, he's cute. Go dance with him," Mel urged, then Shannon grinned and snatched her purse.
"What the hell, can't hurt."
You both giggled as you watched her weave her way through the crowd towards her mystery man. Mel tossed back the rest of her drink with a wince before speaking again.
"Your turn."
You shook your head.
"Nah, I just wanna have a few drinks and go home, I'm not looking for another headache other than the one this vodka's gonna give me in the morning."
Mel opened her mouth to reply but then her eyes flicked to something over your shoulder. "Incoming," was all she said. You rolled your eyes and braced yourself for a shitty one-liner, but you turned out to be very wrong.
"Evenin', ladies," came a very familiar drawl from behind you. Your shoulders immediately stiffened and you slowly looked up. Sure enough, there he was. Joel.
It was Tommy who had greeted you. Joel still had yet to say anything as you glared at him. You met Mel after your breakup with Joel, and while you had told her about it, she never saw what he looked like so she was completely oblivious to what was happening. She had introduced herself to Tommy and was giggling at something he said while you were mentally planning your escape route.
"Lemme buy you a drink," Tommy offered, reaching out a hand. Mel eagerly took it and glanced back at you, frowning a little when she noticed your icy demeanor.
You ok? she mouthed, and you just nodded. She grinned and followed Tommy to the bar, leaving just the two of you.
"Mind if I sit?" he asked. You shrugged and grabbed your purse.
"It's all yours, I was just heading out."
"C'mon, don't be like that," he said. You swiveled around angrily and he held out a refill of your favorite mixed drink as a shitty peace offering. Kate was right. He had bags under his eyes and he looked run down.
"You hand me that drink and I'm dumping it over your fucking head," you snarled. He sighed and set it down on the table.
"I tried callin' but it never goes through."
"Because I blocked you, asshole."
"Yeah, I figured that out," he replied, sounding annoyed now. "Can you please just sit down?" he pleaded, pulling your chair out, but you shook your head and took a step back.
"No, Joel. I don't have anything else to say to you," you told him, then before you caused a scene you turned on your heel and began to push your way to the door, ignoring him calling your name over the music.
When you got outside, you took a deep breath, the cool night air mixing with cigarette smoke from a few bar patrons nearby. You didn't live too far away, so you decided to walk home and text your friends on the way so they knew you were safe. It was about two blocks away from the bar when Joel caught up with you and the idea of him finding out where you lived made you irrationally angry.
His fingers reached out and brushed against your elbow, trying to get you to slow down. You yanked your arm away and skid to a stop. "Don't fucking touch me, Joel."
"I'm sorry, please," he tried, but you shook your head.
"Sorry for what? For ruining my night out with my friends or throwing away seven years together and knocking up some slut?" Your nostrils flared as you glared at him angrily and a few people walking by turned in your direction then murmured amongst themselves when they were out of earshot. Joel glanced around nervously and raked his fingers through his hair.
"Can we please talk? I-I wanna apologize, I wanna make things right-"
"It's too late, Joel," you huffed and crossed your arms.
"Goddamnit, why you always gotta be so fuckin' stubborn?" he groaned, "this is why it wasn't workin', by the way. This is exactly fuckin' why."
"So your answer was to cheat on me? Real fucking classy," you snapped.
"I was fuckin' drunk!" he almost yelled, making you jump. "'Sides, from the sound of it you're havin' the time of your life bein' single. Makin' up for all those years you were stuck with me?"
"Fuck you!" you seethed, pointing your finger in his face. "You fucking asshole! Who the hell do you think you are? And why are you keeping tabs on me, anyway? What I do isn't your goddamn business anymore, so leave me alone!"
He buried his face in his palms and rubbed his eyes aggressively before taking a deep breath and trying again.
"I know, I know. And I'm sorry."
"What are you even doing out at a bar this late, anyway? Shouldn't you be home with your kid?" you said, leaving out the part about him being a single dad now, refusing to give him the satisfaction that you already knew.
"My mom's watchin' Sarah, wanted to give me a break," he mumbled. For some reason, hearing his baby's name made you freeze. Sarah, Sarah, Sarah. "It's just us now," he continued, and you swallowed tightly, finally letting him speak. "She left us a few weeks after Sarah was born. Said she couldn't handle it. I told her it sounded like that post-partum... whatever it's called," he continued, taking a step back so he could rest his tired body against the building behind him. "But she just got more and more distant and one mornin' I woke up to Sarah screamin' her head off in the crib and a note on her dresser."
You clenched your jaw, biting back the instinct to express your sympathy. Even through all your rage you couldn't help but feel a little bad for him. You could see it in his eyes. They weren't bright and playful like they used to be. The past year aged him.
"I made a mistake but I ain't gonna abandon my kid. Don't get how anyone could," he said softly, "she's just so small 'n helpless 'n I'm all she's got."
You took a deep breath and averted your gaze, staring up the street at nothing in particular. Even if you felt bad for him, that didn't change what he did to you: a betrayal worse than anything you had ever experienced. When you opened your mouth to tell him that, he spoke first.
"I still love you."
Your shoulders sagged and you closed your eyes.
"How stupid do you think I am?" you asked quietly. His tired eyes roamed over your face helplessly. "Your baby mama left you and now you're feeling overwhelmed so you thought you'd try crawling back?"
"That's not what this is," he insisted. "I didn't know I'd see you here tonight but now that I have, I couldn't let you leave without tellin' you I've thought about you every single fuckin' day since you left. Even the day Sarah was born, I was starin' down at her wishin' you were her mama instead." His eyes began to glisten, filling with unshed tears as he poured his heart out to you on the sidewalk. "I fucked up, baby. But if-"
"Don't call me that."
He ignored you and kept talking. "But if you gimme one more chance I promise I'll make it up to you." He gazed at you, blinking back his tears while trying to read your expression. "We got so much history together, there's gotta be something left. Somethin' worth fightin' for."
You tilted your head to the side and shook your head sadly.
"Sorry, Joel," you replied, watching as his face fell. "You made your choices, now you gotta live with them."
You turned and began to walk in the direction of your apartment, proud that you stood your ground but still feeling a pit in your stomach as you left. He wasn't wrong. You had a lot of history together and the hardest thing you ever had to do was walk away from him, but you knew in the end, you had to put yourself first.
Before he was out of earshot, you turned back around, spotting him standing in the same spot against the building staring down at his feet.
"Hey," you called out, and he quicky looked up.
"Good luck. To both you and Sarah. I mean it," you said sincerely. "You're doing the right thing, Joel."
He slowly nodded and you turned back around. Pulling out your phone, you saw a missed text from Mel asking where you were.
I'm gonna be okay, but I'm going home.

11. A WIP you’d like to finish someday?
A WIP I’d like to finish someday is Second Chance, which is my Gaston x Reader fic that I started about…good golly, that movie came out in 2014 so it has to have been between 8-10 years ago. I have the whole thing figured out, I know exactly how it ends and most of how I get there, but unfortunately my hyperfixation on BatB died out years ago and my current hyperfixations will NOT allow anything else to take their place. Someday, though!
12. A trope that you’re really into right now?
I have been and always shall be a huge fan of the forced proximity trope. Couple that with things like one bed and fake dating and I’m a happy, happy person
#Kate answers#fic asks#I swear I’m going to finish Second Chance someday#I gotta purge the LOST from my system first and that could take a while tho#kate writes

What if Sergeant Price was originally a weapon before he met Mac and Kate? I feel like it’d be a lot similar to how Price met Nik: a violent man turned informant.
I also think he reverts back to his old self sometimes, most likely in high stress situations or if someone crosses a boundary.
Anyhow, this is just food for thought. Love ya pooks!👋🏻
Firstly, being called pooks made my day. Love that. Secondly, for that reason, I shall be answering this before I close my puter and make shortbread. After getting to the end of writing this little tidbit I gotta say, one of the best asks I've ever received. It came to me like I was spitting the prophecy, it was such an easy write.
Ghost notices, he picks up on John's posture and demeanour when their mission gets fucked. Their intel was off and Ghost won't be surprised if they leave with a fatality amongst the group. But he sees John go from Captain who they were joking over comms with to John fucking Wick in a matter of seconds. They're violent people, the job calls for it but John is lethal. He pulls a man off of Gaz and snaps his neck when the cunt won't stop struggling, he doesn't blink when they look at him wide-eyed. He just moves on and plunges a knife into someone else.
Ghost watches him take a punch before he shoves a man's open mouth over the edge of a table and slams his boot into the back of his head, they all hear the crack of his jaw and Soap puts a bullet between the poor sod's eyes to put him out of his misery.
The way John moves is instinctual, it's like he's stuck in fight or flight only John has never been one to flee. Someone tries to attack him from behind with a crowbar while he's prying open a door and John beats the man with it until one of his eyes starts to gouge out of the socket. He's covered in blood, known of it his own and he doesn't seem to be aware of it. Or entirely present and that's what sets them all on edge, he's relying on some kind of instinct or past training.
And then suddenly it's over, the bodies stop coming and they're back at exfil waiting for Nik to arrive. The Russian isn't supposed to be there, no one comments on it. They'd all rather it be Nik than some wanker that none of them know as the adrenaline stops thrumming in their veins. John responds to Laswell over comms but he's detached, they can all see it and from the worry in Kate's tone, she can hear it.
When Nikolai, the glorious bastard, arrives with his precious heli he doesn't tell them to jump in like he'd usually do. He takes one look at John before getting out and approaching him like one approaches a stray cat. He doesn't wrap an arm around the captain like he usually would, and no friendly greetings with some muttered Russian pet name tacked on at the end. He makes a point of standing an arm's length in front of the captain, easy to step back out of reach if he needs to do so quickly.
"John?"
John stares right through him, eyes blank and scarily lifeless as looks at Nikolai. Simon nods off the sergeants and watches them park their arses in the heli, not without sending their captain varying looks of worry. Nikolai offers him a thankful look over John's shoulder and Simon offers him a nod but stays put.
It's John, he knows John and he trusts John with his life but the same man he trusts with his life is currently drenched in blood and seemingly unaware of where he is. He isn't leaving Nikolai to handle him alone even if he knows the Russian is as strong as he is.
"Captain, do you want Kate to call MacMillan?"
Simon narrows his eyes at the pilot, watching him curiously. He knows who John's old captain is, he's met the man before. Wicked funny and sharp as a knife.
The name seems to trigger something in John, he tilts his head looking at Nik with far more clarity than he'd had a moment ago.
"Wha- No, 'm fine."
Even John sounds unsure but there's a familiarity on his face as he looks at Nikolai that hadn't been present before. Nikolai looks relieved, his shoulders falling as some of the tension leaves him.
"You should call him later."
It isn't a suggestion, it's an instruction. One John doesn't seem to argue with as he glances down at himself, taking in his current state.
Nikolai glances at him over John's shoulder and Simon takes the hint to drag his arse back to the heli. They need a second, one he isn't supposed to be present for. He doesn't judge as he silently slips away, ignoring how John all but falls against the Russian's front.
