✨Non-bender Lin✨

inspired by this ask to @risingsoleil 😊 The idea is so interesting plus I got to incorporate some of my faves in it so yeah~

So this is my take on non-bender Lin :3

Korra gets her bending back because she’s the Avatar, but she can’t restore anyone else’s bending. So, Lin stays a nonbender.

In Book 2, Lin leaves the police force and goes to the South Pole to recover from PTSD, she has nightmares of Amon taking her bending, and hallucinations. Katara takes care of her during this time.

Lin also gets closer to Tenzin's kids during this period.

Jinora and Ikki feel bad for their Aunt Lin losing her bending while saving them, and they start hanging out with her more often.

They visit her during therapy sessions, bringing flowers and spending time with her their Gran Gran.

Meelo, being Meelo, calls her “Lady Hero” every chance he gets.

Meanwhile, Pema, already dealing with postpartum depression, starts worrying that Lin isn’t just getting closer to Tenzin but also to her family. She’s feeling insecure and suspects Lin is trying to take her place.

Tenzin and the kids reassure Pema that this isn’t the case. But still, Pema occasionally accuses Tenzin of seeing Lin, but the kids would back him up, saying, “No, Mom, we were with Aunt Lin, and Dad was at work.”

In Book 3, Lin is back on her feet and joins Team Avatar on their search for the New Airbenders. Asami, being the genius she is, comes up with a new tool for Lin:

Asami designs a maneuver gear (like Attack on Titan's ODM Gear) that mimics how metalbenders use cables for mobility. It allows Lin to navigate the battlefield as before, despite no longer having her bending.

Since Lin is still, and always will be an incredible fighter, She creates retractable blades (like in Assassin’s Creed) that Lin can use as a weapon since she refuses to use the electric gloves

As time passes, Pema starts to feel better, but her suspicions about Lin never completely fade. Now that Lin is playing a major role in saving the Air Nation and working closely with Tenzin, the lingering doubts continue to plague her. Eventually, Pema reaches her breaking point. Despite Tenzin’s constant reassurance and honesty, she realizes she can’t keep living with these doubts or stay in a marriage without fully trusting him. With a heavy heart, Pema decides to divorce him.

During their mission, Lin and Tenzin are working together again, but this time, Tenzin is 10,000x more protective of Lin. Why? Because she can’t bend anymore, and he’s constantly worried about her safety. However, he tries to hide it, knowing how upset Lin would be if she noticed. She doesn’t want pity or anyone treating her differently.

When the Red Lotus jumped on him, Tenzin came close to death, and in that moment, his life flashed before his eyes. He realized how much Lin had always been there for him, through everything (despite their past). When he was miraculously saved, the first person he saw was Lin approaching him. Overwhelmed with relief, he couldn’t help but reach out, trying to hold onto her, grateful that she was safe and sound.

By Book 4, Lin is looking even more badass with her upgraded gear. Asami added new features like bombs and improved blades, making Lin even more formidable. 

As for Tenzin and Lin’s relationship, it takes time for Lin to accept his feelings. She initially thinks he’s acting out of pity, guilt, or even because she's a second choice after Pema divorced him. But Tenzin works hard to prove that’s not the case. He truly loves her and genuinely wants her back, and he’s determined to show her that his feelings are real. "Just like old times" :3

Staring deeply into his blue comforter like it held the secrets of the world, Annabeth didn't need to be a child of Athena to know that her boyfriend wasn't really there with her. It wasn't the first time one of them had found the other like this, and it probably wouldn't be the last.

He wasn't making noise or moving, actually not doing anything at all, which led her to believe that he wasn't having a panic attack or a flashback. Dissociation then.

After a lot of trial and error following the titan war, they'd figured out touch - especially involving water - helped ground him the best, so she didn't bother with trying to talk to him, not knowing how far gone he was yet. Instead she got some ice out of the water bottle on his nightstand, happening to glance at the few pictures she'd been able to bring for him to Camp Jupiter. Sally, Grover, Tyson, Thalia, the Stolls, Clarisse, and a few other campers smiled back at her.

If she'd known they were going to fall into Tartarus, she'd have packed a few more.

Turning away from the photos with a sigh, she sat down cross-legged on his bed and winced when the mattress bouncing got no reaction from him, so she gently picked up his arm in the hand not holding the ice and starting rubbing it up and down his tan forearm.

"Percy?" she murmured. "I'm gonna count backward from 100, okay?"

Predictably, he didn't answer, but she started her countdown anyway, studying his form for any changes. His jet black hair was falling into his down cast eyes, low enough that she couldn't see his seagreen irises. His pants were creased where his elbows rested on them, and she realized he was wearing the same thing as he was when his watch ended an hour ago. It hurt to know that he could've been like this for so long and she had no idea, but there wasn't anything she could do, not without leaving the ship vulnerable.

Then - movement. His hand twitched; she didn't dare stop, though, not wanting to risk backslide, just kept on counting and rubbing the ice up and down his arm.

A few minutes later, he pulled in a sharp breath and sagged a bit so that the only thing Annabeth could see was the top of his head. She'd lost count of how many times she'd made it to a hundred and back at this point.

"Percy? Are you with me?" He waited a bit and nodded minutely. "Can you try and breathe with me?"

She drew in an exaggerated breath slowly and let it out even slower. He didn't join her, so she tried again. This time, he managed a shaky, slow breath that almost aligned with hers.

After a few minutes passed and he seemed to be more present, she put the ice down on the nightstand, and he sagged even more, head landing on her shoulder like his strings had been cut.

She ran her fingers through his thick curls, illiciting a sigh from him. "Hey, baby."

His breath hitched, and she was afraid for a moment he'd start panicking, but she soon felt her shoulder grow wet.

"We're together," she whispered, hoping his words from so many (weeks? days?) ago would bring him some comfort.

They were still the most important words in the world to her.

At some point, his hands must have unclenched because she felt his nails softly scrape her thigh. "How long was I gone?"

"I don't know," she said honestly. "At least 15 minutes, an hour at most."

"Damn."

Sadly, he pushed himself off of her shoulder, leaving it cold and salty. "What's the last thing you remember?"

He looked off into the distance, thinking. "I remember sitting on the bed to get to ready to shower, and nothing else."

Her heart clenched as that meant he must have been gone closer to an bour. Do you have any idea what triggered you?"

"Uh...I think maybe when I looked across the hall and saw your empty bed..." He trailed off, and she nodded.

"I'll keep the door closed from now on," she promised. It wouldn't be any kind of major change since she never slept in that room anyway. The only reason it had been open was because of habit from Coach Hedge.

Now that Percy was present and they were both calmer, they started getting ready to shower, not wanting to be without the other. (Only shower. Neither of them were ready for more at the moment.) It wasn't long before they were climbing into bed together, both considerably more refreshed but exhausted from a long day on the Argo II.

It had to get better at some point. It just had to.

Since expanding the Jasperverse is apparently my current hobby let's try this on for size: The Collector decides rather than tattling to Philip that his current Grimwalker is stealing the new Grimwalker, it'd be WAY more entertaining to see Philip's face in the morning when he realizes what happened, and thus keeps quiet about the whole thing. Jasper makes a clean getaway with baby Hunter, but for plot reasons doesn't end up running off to some other Titan, and spends the next several years raising his son in hiding and on the run.

Fast forward to Darius finding a 6/8/10-year-old Hunter on his doorstep (or figurative doorstep, your Darius doesn't have a house so maybe it's his mom's doorstep, or Hunter corners him in Bonesborough or something), and this kid informs him that he's gotten separated from his dad, but his dad told him that if things ever went south, he could go to Darius for help.

Darius is just, like, bluescreening, because this kid looks exactly like Jasper, and admits that his dad's name IS Jasper (when it isn't something like Onyx Bloodwilliams or whatever), and is also speaking of Jasper in the present-tense, so like, 1) Jasper is alive??? and 2) JASPER HAS A KID???

A kid who is apparently relying on Darius to take care of him now. And the kid, Darius is disconcerted to learn, KNOWS Darius - he keeps asking him for his version of stories his dad has told him, like is it true that you - and can you tell me about the time you and my dad - And Darius is just like, oh my god, I never considered having kids and I was barely able to consider being in love with Jasper, but Jasper has a kid and has told the kid all about ME, and I need to be the best guardian figure possible to this child until his dad shows up and I can ask him WHAT THE HELL???

(Where's Jasper? Idk, maybe he told Hunter to split up while he goes and lays a false trail elsewhere, maybe he's dealing with bounty hunters who aren't even after them for Golden Guard stuff because who knows what Jasper's been getting up to for the last few years, maybe he's gotten in with the rebellion and is running a mission or something, who knows.)

Also Hunter is, like, a weird kid with a number of worrying skills. He's not a child soldier in this 'verse, more like a child spy. He goes through life like he's playing the world's most intense game of hide-and-seek. He squints suspiciously at everyone and everything. He can pick a lock in 6 seconds. He recreationally pickpockets and thinks it's doubly fun to reverse-pickpocket the item without his mark even realizing it was missing. He can cry on command and make for a good distraction. He knows how to break someone's instep if they try to grab him. He eats bugs.

Bonus irony points if this Hunter still has all the issues Canon Hunter has, but he has those issues because he's loved, not abused. He's very good at doing exactly what he's told…because he knows his and his dad's survival depends on doing everything Jasper says when he says it. He's scarily good at fighting for his age…because Jasper's trained him to be able to defend himself. He's got PTSD and anxiety…because he's spent his whole life worried that people will hurt him and his father. He doesn't have any friends…because they've never been able to stay in one place for very long.

Idk where Darius would stash Hunter for safekeeping. I mean, for HILARITY and SUSPENSE it'd be great to see him trying to sneak the kid around the castle. Hide him in his apartments. Shove him under his office desk whenever some other Coven Head comes in for a chat. Hunter takes it upon himself to explore the castle's fantasy ventilation system and maps out every vent and secret passage in the place to pass the time and give Darius a heart attack. Darius finds a tiny scout uniform and insists that this is totally just a small demon that's been assigned to Darius as an escort. Hunter is scarily good at maintaining a disguise, and Darius doesn't have time to unpack all that. Hm, we know nothing about the covens themselves, could there be some sort of masked Abomination Coven uniform? That'd be better so no one could try to reassign Darius's random scout escort.

The castle might not be feasible though (and Darius would realize that getting Hunter anywhere NEAR the castle would be the EXACT OPPOSITE of what Jasper would want him to do) so the other options are stashing Hunter at his mom's house or recruiting Eda into the situation.

Darius: I need you to house this kid. Eda: Do I LOOK like a babysitter?? Darius: He can pick a lock in six seconds and he's pickpocketed you twice since we started this conversation. Eda: …Intriguing.

Either way though, Darius knows he has to be there for Hunter. He knows that Jasper is relying on him to be there for Hunter. It's like, here Darius, have a universe where you DON'T shoot yourself in the foot and hurt the people you love! He barely understands what's happening and he never wanted kids and he doesn't know if he and Jasper would ever have been a thing so maybe he's not the stepdad but by GOD is he gonna be the dad that stepped up.

Hunter is a good kid despite his upbringing and is really excited to finally meet Darius after everything his dad told him about the guy, but he also really misses his dad and is worried if Jasper's okay. Darius is like, come on, we both know your dad is the strongest witch in the world (even if APPARENTLY NEITHER OF YOU HAVE MAGIC WTF??) he'll be fine. And Darius is maybe not cut out to be a father, but Hunter's a weird kid anyway, so they make it work. Granted Hunter gets REALLY irritated by some things, like, Darius doesn't know how to be as attentive to his infodumps as his dad is, and Darius can't teleport, and one time Hunter skins his knees really bad and Darius slaps on a healing patch and Hunter is REALLY UNIMPRESSED to learn Darius can't just HEAL IT HIMSELF and Darius is like HUNTER YOUR STANDARDS ARE SUPER HIGH AND A LITTLE SKEWED, OKAY???

Jasper might show up again out of the blue perfectly normal, but we all know Jasper's an overdramatic bastard so it's more likely he shows up at some climactic moment while Darius and Hunter are surrounded by enemies that Jasper blasts to kingdom come, or Jasper shows up missing approximately half his blood like "Hey Darius, do you have my kid?" before passing out while Darius is like WTF and Hunter is like "he does this sometimes."

Btw if you wanna make things even MORE complicated, throw in a new Golden Guard who's an adult Grimwalker but only a few years younger than Hunter. He could be an evil asshole or Jasper 2.0 or idk whatever the plot demands. Lol maybe he's an adult version of Will who doesn't have active decomposition issues. Literally no idea what purpose he'd serve in the plot beyond possibly existing tho.

Eberwolf thinks Hunter is great and thinks the whole situation is a riot and is generally very unhelpful except for when he's actually extremely helpful. Darius would like Eberwolf to stop feeding the child bugs. Maybe at some point Raine gets involved (surely they are doing work IN the Bard Coven long before they become its Head Witch, yeah?) and is like "Darius why do you have a child??" and Darius is like "Don't ask and don't say anything" and Raine watches Hunter lockpick his way into a file cabinet of restricted info and just kinda melts because it reminds them of a certain OTHER miscreant chaos child…

Darius and Hunter's relationship has its ups and downs because on the one hand, Hunter is excited to meet this guy, but on the other hand Hunter is a young kid under a lot of stress and Darius wasn't expecting Hunter to exist let alone be his responsibility and also Jasper probably left some stuff out during storytime. Hunter was NOT prepared for Darius to be this…stuffy. Darius is like "Here I got you some new clothes so you don't look like a streetrat" and Hunter is like "I understand the importance of blending in but why is it so fancy-looking" (Hunter thinks anything with a single frill is fancy) and Darius is like "look at all the extra hidden pockets I sewed in for you" and Hunter is like "SOLD."

Basically tho it's a Jasperverse Dadrius AU where Darius gets to be the good guy and Hunter is messed up in all the same ways for completely different reasons, lol.

I imagine hunter is also very independent... He probably HAS been left alone before, more than jaspers wishes he was. But it's either bring him somewhere dangerous or leave him behind.

I'm going to imagine he still HAS his old GG staff but because it's so old now it's sort of... Like dying batteries, it's way past its warranty. He uses it extremely sparingly and only when there's literally no other option. So generally neither of them are using magic.

Belos must KNOW he got away. And I actually think he wouldn't put up wanted signs for him or anything- jasper hasn't exposed any of his secrets because he's in hiding. But if he's shoved out of hiding he's going to have to go scorched earth to survive. So theyre on the run... But only certain people know to look for him. Coven scouts all know they're looking for a tall blonde man with four scars on his face. Higher level members of the emperor's coven know way more about him. People like Lilith and kikimora know he was the previous GG.

But only the next GG know who he REALLY is..the next one knows he's a Grimwalker past his warranty, and so is Hunter. He is HUNTING them. Actively.

Man what could split jasper and hunter badly enough that he would pull the trigger on going to Darius after all these years and expose the huge secret that he's still alive? That he has a kid? He obviously hasn't gone to Darius yet, so he considers this a risk. What would put him at greater danger than leaving him to find Darius by himself?

I think jasper would legitimately have to be in serious danger. Maybe he gets seriously wounded fleeing coven scouts and he knows he can't protect Hunter like this so he sends him running the opposite way while he keeps them busy, so Hunter doesn't... Actually know if he's okay or not

OH! Omg hang on... They got caught by the new GG and jasper got seriously wounded like. He's bleeding everywhere. And he sends hunter away, get out of here, go find Darius. I'll find you. And hunter doesn't know for SURE if he's okay or not but he's soooo sure his dad can handle anything, nobody could ever REALLY hurt him! And Darius isn't so sure, but... Nothing HAPPENS. Like there's no big petrification ceremony or anything. If he's dead he was killed quietly. He has no idea where jasper is or if he's okay but he's got his kid now and hunter is CERTAIN his dad is fine, he will be here soon. He keeps saying stuff like "when Dad comes back" like when Dad comes back he can show you x thing or when Dad comes back you can tell him y! And Darius doesn't... Know what to say and he's terrified of when the ball might drop that.. it's been days and he's not here yet. It's been more days and he's not here yet.

ONLY HES NOT DEAD because the next GG isn't nearly as loyal as Jasper was. He's caught him and is basically holding him hostage secret from Belos trying to get his OWN answers on what's going on and what's true.

A Look at Hunter's Complex PTSD (Part 1)

Alrighty, here is the first part of excerpts about Complex PTSD that I have compiled from a beautiful, poignant and funny memoir, “What My Bones Know” by Stephanie Foo, which I will be linking to Hunter’s character arc with as much detail and as many screencaps as possible.

Other sources of info in these analyses are wise words from my seasoned internship supervisor (in total, about 170 supervision hours clocked in with her) during my past training before I got licensed to practice, my own lived experience with Complex PTSD, and loosely drawing anything relevant from almost 3 years’ experience with my own clients’ cases so far.

Trigger warnings have been tagged in this post, and there will be multiple mentions of trauma and abuse in this series that I’m putting together.

I will be sharing parts of the book by following the order of the chapters, while the Hunter scenes might occasionally jump here and there and not be as chronological in order.

I’ll start with the author’s first overview of how PTSD works:

Someone with PTSD has a brain which tends to flag things on a scale of life-or-death. Their brain will shoot out what it believes to be the appropriate emotional response to perceived danger.

The above pic is so important. It may not be “reasonable” or “rational” as what we know those two words to mean on a normal day, but dare I say that it is its own reasoning and rationale. It’s a condition whereby the brain forms powerful associations after a life-or-death experience (or many such experiences), with the goal of protecting us but which can be debilitating after the real danger has passed. You could say it’s a state of being overprepared, almost constantly.

Related to the above statement, I’ll show one of the more light-hearted moments from Hollow Mind that happened before the true horrors really showed themselves in the second half of that episode:

It’s a more comical moment here, but the “Boo!” sound from the walkie talkie triggered a very believable response from Hunter. He raises his hands automatically to shield himself, in case he gets attacked. It’s not the exact pose as when he flinches when Belos makes physical contact with him (my bet is that if Hunter raised his arms high like this in front of Belos, he may have been punished or chastised for not standing stoic, strong and portraying “proper” Golden Guard strength) but is kind of along the same lines.

However, Hunter has undergone very strict military training, requiring him to be prepared for new scenarios including strange foreign noises or stimuli, which I would say has been both a risk factor and protective factor in his life. This will be covered in greater detail in future analyses. Therapists use the terms "risk factors" and "protective factors" when looking at what may worsen or improve our clients' conditions.

Related to above, Titan knows how many times Hunter has been struck and threatened like this, traumatized perhaps hundreds of times over the course of years:

Importantly, I believe he has gone through both Big T (e.g. a single life-changing event like a car accident) and Little T trauma (many ‘smaller’ instances, like getting yelled at four times a week over a duration of years), since this can certainly be the case for some people. In later parts of this exploration, I will cite examples of the various Big T and Little T traumas Hunter has experienced.

Like what happened with the book author, making mistakes is especially dangerous in Hunter’s case because Belos heavily implies that he will disown him or get rid of him if he slips up enough.

Dozens of people have also let him down and have been bystanders:

Is the world a threat to him? Well, there are very few places where he would feel safe. Hell, I bet he’s even safer while away on missions than when he is in his own room. But he always had to return home to the castle, or else. He has been manipulated into placing the most trust in the one person who cares the least for him.

In the following section, the author highlights how she would see flashes of her abusive father in other people, even years after her father left the picture:

For Hunter, being physically distant from Belos didn't erase his triggers. Him preparing for a possible strike from Darius in Any Sport in a Storm:

and the mirror scene in Thanks to Them, where he panics after seeing a flash of Belos as he is looking at his own long hair:

are relevant examples of him feeling as if his abuser is right there, when Belos isn’t actually present.

I have a few of my own examples, the first of which is how I had a couple of peers in classes who had bullying tendencies: and they would have crooked smiles and narrowed eyes that are eerily similar to my own parents’ expressions whenever I had traumatizing moments with my parents. Whenever these people had those evil-looking grins, I would either feel intense fear and/or rage.

Plus on two different occasions, I thought an abusive ex-housemate of mine that I lived with for 2 years was in the same room..many months after I got away from her.

The first incident was seeing someone who looked almost exactly like her (her beanie hat, black coat and black boots were the exact same shades and shapes), just a different hair colour and slightly diff eye shape, in a bookstore. Till today I still have no idea why this other girl stopped whatever she did just to stare at me with a sullen expression across the store space for maybe half a minute. I remember freezing and hiding behind the two friends I was with, whispering to them “I feel like that could be her…”, in case that girl turned out to be really her, because I felt she was still not done with criticizing my mistakes from our shared group project and saying awful things to me several months before that, even though I already blocked her across all platforms in 2015 and made a callout post here on Tumblr without naming her.

The second incident was a year after, when I was at the office and scrolled past a photo of Kristen Stewart (of all people..my ex-housemate looks a lot like her, especially the mouth) on my laptop, and for a solid minute I very strongly smelled this ex-friend’s perfume. I remember darting around wildly because I was beginning to believe she had followed me all the way there to sneak up on me, in the office that had doors locked with security codes. I felt she was about to turn a nearby blind corner and come for me. But the scent faded away after a minute, and I was left there in shock that my broken brain reenacted a scenario involving her presence and her perfume. Fascinating, honestly. Luckily Kristen Stewart pics no longer scare me like that.

So yeah, the Hunter mirror scene…I felt that spooky stuff. Eerie, right? PTSD, what more Complex PTSD, can rewire your brain and it does try its best to protect you, but it can be rather wonky sometimes. Children who are abused in a manner that results in Complex PTSD are hyper-alert to even the smallest twinges in facial expressions.

Our poor boy might have been jumpy and guarded in a number of other scenarios, potentially misinterpreting or simply not knowing what was going to happen, therefore his whole body was geared up for a fight-or-flight response:

Thank goodness he had Flapjack in those months, along with the friends he would meet, and later Camila as well.

Like the author, Hunter definitely does not have one foundational trauma. Having been isolated by Belos, he was alone and defenseless in that throne room many many times. He has emerged with so many visible scars on his body and having to create his own identity on his own terms. At this rate, exposure therapy would not be enough as a treatment plan for him. His web of relationships and interactions with people and the world need a major reframing, for his state of being and view of self to be positive and leading to peace and self-acceptance. In fact, this reframing has already been unfolding gradually, with twists and turns along the way:

And losing Flapjack recently and feeling the effects of moral injury, may be the ultimate test for him as to where to place his trust. One of those places has to be in himself in order to advance forward.

The book is about how the author found hope in having to live with Complex PTSD for the rest of her life, and her early years of investigating what happened to her seemed bleak. However, she found relevant people to contact and interview over the years, to uncover new hopeful sources of info about the condition, which will be in my later analyses.

Is Hunter a lost cause (quoting Belos’s awful words from Thanks to Them..)? I wouldn’t say so! I obviously hope he’ll be alright in the remaining two specials…

Veteran Isekai Protagonist Luz

What if, before ending up in the Demon Realm, Luz had been summoned to become a Hero of one of those fantasy RPG isekai worlds?

But!

The people who summoned Luz were assholes who decided it would be easier to summon (aka kidnap) people from another world to fight their battles rather than do it themselves. That's why they summoned 13-year-old Luz; young kids/teens are easier to manipulate/control.

Luz managed to defeat the great evil, but all her companions/friends died in the process. Sure, the assholes who dragged her into this got their comeuppance and Luz got to keep all of her powers/weapons/skills, but it did not change the fact that she returned home traumatized.

BTW, time fuckery happened, so although Luz was in the other world for months, only a few minutes passed on Earth. Luz could have proven to her mother what happened was real as she still has access to her powers, but Luz kept quiet because she didn’t want to burden her. So poor Camila one day found her daughter acting so strange with a haunted look in her eyes, and had no idea what was wrong.

Rather than a book report gone wrong due to the snakes escaping, the incident that got Luz sent to camp was caused by her PTSD. Like in canon, Luz throws her Azura book into the trash, but it's because she can't stand to look at it as her first adventure broke a bit the illusion of fantasy adventures. She immediately regrets it because it was a gift from her dad, but as you know, Owlbert snatched it first. Luz immediately realizes that something is up with Owlbert, but she still follows him, partly out of curiosity.

This Luz would not be as awestruck by the Demon Realm as Canon Luz, though she would still find it interesting just cause it's a very different world from her own and the last one she was in. She is a little nervous about Demons at first but quickly realizes that they are different from the ones in the other world.

I imagine Luz has a panic attack when Eda pulls the "you really don't have a choice" stunt in the first episode. Eda feels concerned about why the human reacted that way, as well as guilty that she might have inadvertently triggered something. She tells Luz that she doesn’t need to do anything and can just go home - Eda may be a criminal and a scam artist, but she isn’t going to take advantage of a traumatized child. But Luz still agrees to help Eda, partly because she thinks she needs to do it, and because that is the kind of person.

This is also what motivates Luz to stay in the Demon Realm. Although Eda has the portal and can let Luz go home at anytime, Luz has the mentality that she was brought to the Demon Realm for a reason and needs to fulfill that reason before she can go home. She has a bit of a breakdown when she later realizes that she always had the choice to go home.

The Gods from the first isekai world weren't happy that Luz got summoned because it's bad taste to kidnap people who have nothing to do with the issues of their world. Unfortunately, they couldn't do much cause Gods must not directly interfere with mortal affairs, only provide indirect guidance. They did ensure that the people responsible for summoning Luz would recieve punishment.

Currently, they are chilling in the In-Between Realm alongside Papa Titan, watching Luz’s adventures while munching on popcorn.

Luz’s abilities would be surprising to the Boiling Isles’ inhabitants because Humans shouldn’t be able to use magic. Belos is especially intruded because how can this girl use magic without the use of Glyphs.

A bit about Luz’s abilities in this AU:

Luz is a Magic Knight; aside from spellcasting, she also knows her way around weapons and physical fighting. As the ‘Hero’ Luz can use all types of magic: Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Light, Dark, and Null (any non-elemental spell), but her prefered element is Light. Her main weapon is an enchanted sword that can channel magic and that only Luz can wield.

The Appraisal/Analyze skill that is common in fantasy isekais; it can give Luz information on people and things. Using it on Eda after meeting her allows Luz to find out about her curse earlier.

This Luz has experience fighting powerful monsters and opponents, so she isn't as defenseless as her canon self. I wouldn’t call her OP as there are some people stronger than her, like Belos (can’t have things be too easy), but she is without a doubt the strongest person in her age range.

Luz’s Light magic includes powerful Healing, so she is able to help Eda with her curse, Luz CAN’T get rid of it because the Owl Beast is it’s own living creature rather than a traditional curse, BUT she can heal all the damage Eda’s body has sustained. Like the rapid aging cause by the strain of transforming, and the damage and deterioration on her bile sac that causes Eda’s lost of magic. Meaning that, once Luz’s heals her, Eda finally looks her age (complete with wild red hair), and her magic power is back to her prime.

Eda will still come to her agreement with the Owl Beast and gain the Harpy Form in the future.

Luz still finds the Glyphs and learns to use them even though she already has magic because it’s smart to have variety.

Previous Episode of the Peaceful Timeline

Translation: I actually have one more question, namely megatron's visions of unicron, what does it look like in a peaceful timeline?

That is...a good question.

The visions of Unicron and his 'younger self' (as I have labeled for a very specific in AOP) are just manifestations of his rage, his guilt, his anger, sorrow, and regret. Unicron has no real influence over Megatron because his soul is currently locked away in an indestructible container while his physical body is still in the center of the Earth.

But Megatron at the end of the day has some major PTSD. If he was still the villain, none of his actions would have bothered him. But now he fully sees himself as a monster, and he has to come to grips with the fact that he fucked up.

His hallucinations aren't helped by the fact of his environment, because in the main AOP timeline, he is not really trusted and treated at arm's length. It's just adding more fuel to the fire of the question: even if he wanted to change, would it be believed? Would he still be seen as a villain by everyone around him? Is the risk to make connections really worth it, if the end result is always going to be misery?

As AOP continues onward, you'll start to notice, or you might even notice now, the more connections and actions towards good that he is making, the quieter the hallucinations become. He's finding manageable ways to cope. Doesn't mean that it's entirely healthy.

Now in regard to the Peaceful Timeline, Megatron's hallucinations were definitely in full force before he found Optimus and Ymir. Taunting him and telling him to give up on his fruitless mission to find Optimus, from some extremely primitive painting and play to go off of. Finding Optimus was the one thing keeping him going, but the longer he searched, the worse his mind got.

Then he found Optimus and Ymir. Before Megatron would really find a kinship with Ymir and build a connection with her while also trying to fix what he had with Optimus, both are practically screaming at him: 'What the hell are you doing?' They were telling him to stop this farce. He'll make it worse. Leave! Kill the girl! NO!

He kept those thoughts to himself obviously, and he still didn't have that high opinion of Ymir, and Optimus still hated himself. But then...Ymir says thank you when he brings food for her she's able to eat, he helps with the delivery process, and he sees a woman holding her daughter with such care and love, when she shouldn't. The child was forced upon her. She had no choice...so why did she care about this thing?

His reasons for staying with Optimus and Ymir slowly begin to change. He's beginning to learn and grow and how to be a better person, especially to Ymir, who's actively been willing to give him another chance because of their understanding of each other. Then he forms an actual connection with Maria, and because he doesn't want her perception of him to change, he learns to control his anger.

And as Megatron is in a positive environment now, the hallucinations are not as severe as before, because he has ways to cope. Doesn't mean that it's gone away. When Maria learns about their titan forms, it comes full force. When Maria learns the truth about the war, it's practically attacking him. It's moments in his life that are shrouded in doubt and fear is when it all comes back.

He does ultimately decide to tell Optimus about it, feeling as though they were in a place where they could trust each other again. And Optimus finds ways that Megatron can cope with the situation if and when it arises.

The panic attack part two

so this is a prompt I found made by @irondadmadlads and yeah

Peter doesn’t have PTSD. Sure, his hands get sweaty and his breathing picks up whenever he’s in a tight space, but that’s only because he’s claustrophobic! He was never claustrophobic before Toomes. Maybe his dreams consist of space and ashes and fading away into nothingness, but nightmares don’t always have meaning! He never had this reoccurring nightmare until he died on Titan. Peter doesn’t have PTSD.

But Tony notices how Peter is always on edge. Always anxious. F.R.I.D.A.Y. hears the boy cry at night, not being able to sleep after a bad dream. Bruce sees the boy run out of the room when a trigger is mentioned.

Peter may think he doesn’t have PTSD, but his family does. And they’re worried about him.

Peter was waken up from his nightmare jolting up clearly panicking but he calmed down but only started crying after the fourth attempt of falling asleep it was almost 9 am it wasn’t a school night so Peter decided to go out on patrol. (May i add he went to be at ten and woke up at ten thirty and didn’t go back to sleep at all?)

“hay Karen do you mind telling dad I’m on patrol?” Peter asked the ai after he left through his window

“Of course Peter but are you sure you should be out here even if you only got 30 minutes of sleep?” The ai sounded concerned

“I’m-*yawn*- sure Karen.” Peter says almost falling

“Peter you should really get back you haven’t slept enough at all.” Karen said sounding concerned

at then he heard a gunshot he felt stinging pain in his leg and looked down.

“shit!” Peter yelped

Peter quickly webbed up the villeins and webbed to a bear by alleyway Peter k ew ye should tell someone so the only person he thought of was Tony.

“Karen, call dad!” Peter informed the ai

“already on it.” The ai responded

“F. R. I. D. A. Y vitals!” when Tony sees the vitals he tells his ai to get Bruce in the med bay and ready for a unconscious teen with a bullet wound.

Facts

Modt of the characters are still in the NES only M isn't in it (but he's begging to be put back in)

If it was Soft Infinity impaled M would've bene tortured WAY WAY WORSE (not only by Infinitys siblings but also the other Infinitys and the minus gang Collectors)

The reason why everyone looked so mad seeing Dearest was because he's the reason the whole mess happened

Mearest was gonna appear but she didn't (if she did Infinity wouldn't have hurt her and the others would've been nicer)

Pico was gonna help Infinity and be rewarded by his dad but that didn't make the final cut

Infinity doesn't have PTSD after the mess

It sill be a long time until Boyfriend Girlfriend and Pico watch/play Mario games (same with the other alt ending)

Whitty was basically forced to go there

I don't know if I'll make this canon to the main Infinity universe or if it's just another universe (meaning its not the Infinity from the stories)

Infinity also tortures M buts it's actually mostly for what he did to Boyfriend and Girlfriend and Pico and not for impaling him

Even if Infinity did die M"s actions wouldn't have gone unpunished and the four souls would've ascended to the Afterlife and become good pals

Infinitys powers weren't canceled out since his power is WAY stronger than Girlfriend's the only thing thst could really cancel his power are Titans (if the console was made by a Collector Infinity could've lost his powers)

Infinity was limping due to bring exhausted (the impalment barely even faced him)

Its admittedly really hard to make Collector's bleed but M just got lucky ish

Infinitys chest doesn't have any damage or anything so it's like he never got impaled

The three did legitimately become a three way like the other version

The characters that didn't attack Infinity (like Secret History Mario or Beta Luigi) aren't being punished

Its likely M will be punished for eternity

Infinity likely stays in touch with them and meets their other pals

This is technically the very first time Infinity interacted with Dearest (not counting the RP"s me and my friend do)

And like I said this technically counts as canon to the Mario mod and for the Infinity series....it's technically not officially but consider this the events in another universe but chronologically this happens before book 5

Dearest feels absolutely horrible that he indirectly caused this and is alot nicer to Boyfriend and Pico

Eventually the three do forgive Dearest (but that's like several months after)

They did get a replacement NES

M legitimately did think for a moment that Infinity made a good point about him doing the same thing to Boyfriend Girlfriend and Pico despite them not having anything to do with his "tragedy"

The Grand Collector mentioned is actually the same one as mentioned before (he has no infinite counterparts but there are infinite versions of him aren't fused with a Titan)

If M was aware of Infinitys God like powers before finding out the hard way he would've allowed him and the other three to leave in an instant (but Infinity would probably still get some form of revenge on M for what he did)

Infinity only really despises M and didn't ask for the others to be punished

Boyfriend and Girlfriends souls are back in their organic bodies

Infinity doesn't hate Mearest either

If Infinity would to be ripped in half he'd likely be able to simply reconnect his legs with his body like a Lego piece

This is also the first time Infinity ever actually changed sized (which is what The Collector did in TOH)

Rewatching Steven Universe, it's becoming a brainworm. Got a few new headcanons for it

1. Peridot and Lapis are dating, or at least in a QPR. They're cottagecore lesbians and Pumpkin is their lil kitty

2. They also cuddle at night. Pumpkin will curl up with them, too. Peridot likes being the big spoon, and will help Lapis when she wakes up from nightmares or PTSD related panic/anxiety attacks

3. After Lapis leaves, and when Connie is still not talking to Steven, sometimes Peridot will crawl into bed with him to cuddle because she misses it. Steven will mention it to her, but he's almost always awake when it happens and pretends to be asleep until she leaves

Anyways. That's all for now. There's my brainrot for today

I can't get over the fact that Hunter has his arm around Gus when they're standing outside Luz's home in the rain. Gus was one if his first friends, and even though they haven't known each other that long, he's by far his closest. And even though Hunter looks dead inside and is definitely processing so much, he still has his arm around Gus. He and Willow were definitely the first to comfort Gus after he started crying, and I live that Gus and Hunter are already close enough for Gus to turn to him for support. I dunno. I just think that it's a really sweet detail in this otherwise heart shattering episode

So. King. We know he's a titan now, right? And Luz is out of titan blood, but needs it to make a portal back home. So what if he uses his own blood to help Luz get back home? I know he wants her to stay, and I know it would be really hard for him, but we all know that he loves Luz. He wants her to be happy

i feel like it would never be done in a satisfactory way tho? like diego lost his fingers in s3 and they glossed over it completely. there was no pay off, no character moments, no nothing. he just lost his fingers, got a prosthetic off screen and was fine... that's really, really fucking boring??

compare that to say, levi from attack on titan, who also loses some fingers. there is one 5 second scene of him struggling to hold a sword and it feels significant. that injury affected him. but with diego? *crickets*

and don't get me started about viktor! i really honestly thought he would be partially deaf from that gunshot - which is the realistic outcome! but no, he's fine, just got hit by a car & had some BS temp amnesia.. which, is also vaguely boring.

and holy shit the mental health angle!!! was just!! dropped!! s1 had such a heavy focus on mental health and delving into the psyche of superheroes:

luther's adoration of his abuser & his body dysphoria & self harming (which Tom Hopper, Steve Blackman & i think the vis dev team commented on)

diego's aggression, his inability to show vulnerability & hero complex

allison's inability to cope outside of her power and her hero complex

klaus' addictions & his PTSD from both the abuse and Vietnam

five's PTSD from the apocalypse, his addictions & his inability to "switch off"

ben's body dysphoria & self depreciation

viktor's victim complex (said with love), his isolating tendencies & his inability to regulate his emotions

absolutely all of it is just dropped! and for what?

(and no, klaus making exactly one comment about Dave, or Five nearly crying does not constitute exploring these issues and/or incorporating them into the character arcs).

honestly the loss of the scars and tattoos is what bothers me most about the reset.. diego's scars were central to his character - he's the action hero, he's reckless, he's scarred by his past. klaus' tattoo's symbolised his self-worth issues, with 3/5 tattoo's being related to Dave and 1 being a joke about his superpowers.

ugh! idk i feel like TUA was advertised as a grounded, grim/realistic exploration of superheroes and now we've devolved into "wacky time travel fuckery with no consequences" territory.

Kay so the tags of this post started me in a thought tangent that lowkey got me hopping mad.

Disabilities.

Umbrella Academy character have none and if they do they get reversed/healed/“fixed” somehow.

Examples:

Diego’s adaption doesn’t have an eyepatch/has both eyes

Five’s arm came back in the reset (literally minutes after he lost it!)

Allison got her voice back (in the comics it took Commission magic surgery and was for plot but in the show it just heals, and not for any real reason except so she can use her power again ig? The story could’ve been reworked :/)

Vanya/Viktor straight up doesn’t get shot at all and he does lose his memory but again, he just gets it back

The only exceptions I can think of are Harold (who’s a villain and fucking dies btw) and Harlan (who also fucking dies!) who’s not a positive or even neutral representation of non-verbal autistic characters by any means (I’ll get into that in a later post).

What the actual hell is up with that?! They’re superheroes, literally? Even after the reset they have training and that would almost render most disabilities unnoticeable from a writing standpoint, the only difficulty being actually fucking properly representing what limitations they would have.

And? Eyepatch Diego would be flipping awesome. Mute Allison finding some other way to channel her powers equally fucking so! I DON’T THINK I EVEN NEED TO MENTION PROSTHETIC ARM FIVE.

This show already seems like it’s never going to properly explore these characters’ trauma, PTSD, and other various mental health issues and disorders (example Five never fricking crying, all PTSD symptoms somehow erased after s1, Klaus’ flashbacks only maybe twice despite being trapped in time in a war for nearly a year, all of them remarkably keeping from breaking down [except Allison of course, you know how women are!] in s3), but it also seems like they’ve been purposefully cutting out their physical disabilities, and since day one.

...Feeling kinda “weird” about all the people I’ve seen in the past year or so saying that Raven is/was immature, needs to grow up, etc...?

I mean, communication and such are definitely skills that need honing and growth.

But, like...

Her “attitude”? (If somebody is being an idiot, why does it make you “the better person” to let them continue on making a fool of themselves? Why not correct them? If somebody is being cruel or unfair or dangerous to you or anyone you love, why is it considered “bigger” to love them right back? what does that even accomplish? Real talk, NOTHING.)

Isn’t it more mature to be honest than to cover your feelings, opinions, and honest personality with politeness and propriety?

You ask me, propriety is actually the immaturity option, because A) people can’t handle reality, whether it’s your personality, bad news, whatever, so you soften it up for them? Like you’re baby-proofing your interactions the same way you baby-proof your house?

And B) It takes focus away from what is really, genuinely more important.

I will never advocate that “customer service people should be kind, smily, outgoing,” whatever. They’re there to ring out your groceries, let them do that without expending energy lying to you. If you’re being rude, we both know you don’t deserve that smile, so why waste the energy?

Propriety (in a situation where there’s Tension or Displeasure) dictates that one person or another either lies about their mood, or lies about the interaction. So why is it “the bigger person” to say, “I’m going to lie about how much I like you right now”?

That’s all it is, lying. And I thought that was a BAD thing.
