genuinely can’t stress enough if you’re in high school rn and anyone is telling you that’s the best time of your life they are lying. it gets better. hs is arguably the worst. if you can survive that you can survive anything. despite the horrors i know i’m always posting about i swear life is so much better as an adult
#High school Fucked Me Up#Getting overwhelmed in hallway crowds from 7 separate senses#and trying to Figure Out What was Wrong With Me (depression and PTSD and spiritual crises and abuse and ADHD and chronic illness)#((but I wouldn't realize All That until I was like 25))#and also everyone's expecting you to Perform to Their Standards. Your parents; your teachers; your peers.#You're constantly being judged and valued based on how Well you Meet Their Standards when often you don't even CARE about that!#You're trying to figure YOURSELF out and it's just. It's a lot of pressure to put on someone who's trying to figure out how to grow up.#Also not to Do the Cliche Thing but your hormones are going crazy so you're navigating a whole new internal world too#AND your body's practically waging war on what it used to be to forge it into something Different!#Hormones affect emotions as well as body stuff. So like. Puberty Sucks Emotionally too ESPECIALLY if you have mental health struggles!#Gods I do NOT miss being 14. Or even 18.#I was a little more level at 18 and had figured SOME things out but I am SO glad I'm not there anymore.#So what I'm saying is: It does get better from there. I promise.

POURED vs PORED
"I poured water into the cup."
"I pored over every page in the book."
REPEL vs RAPPEL
"That horrible smell will repel guests."
"We had to rappel down the cliff."
#I see ''poured over books'' SO OFTEN that I'm starting to hate it.#Do Not Pour (Liquid) Over the Book! That Ruins It!!!#It is PORED#(Not mad but maybe a little annoyed.)#I am not immune to the occasional homophone mix-up#I have SO many instances of older writings that talk about ''reigned in'' something. It should be REIN in!#''Reign'' is what a monarch does. ''Rein in'' is what you do with a horse or something else you're controlling.#Another one I USED to do a lot was mixing up ''suit'' like follow suit and ''suite'' like a large room. I used to write ''follow suite''.#But like. Posts like this are Very Good for making sure we Stop Doing These!#Hell I think even ORWELL wrote in Politics and the English Language that people write ''tow the line'' instead of ''toe''.#So this is an issue people have had with spelling homophones for like 50 years at LEAST.#Though Orwell did point out that it tends to stem from Not Actually Understanding the Metaphor You're Speaking With#and also points out the danger of cliches and losing their meaning and...
