🍀 - What originally inspired the OC?

when i was doing some research on being otherkin, specially ghostkin, I saw a post of someone talking abt it and they referred to themself as “your ghost host” and my brain said. Yeah I need to make that.

they LOVE making things up!! Whether that is stories, plans, question, answers, whatever. He’s always been proud of his imagination

🧠 - What do you like most about the OC?

He’s genuinely just SO FUN, fun to draw and write and talk about and everytime I think about them I come up with something new, I love how he can go from very silly to very scary so fast, I can do whatever I want this guy. And I can love and hate them at the same time.

about the question tho… i'm an impostor and i don't know wtf i'm doing actually, and i'm not sure what exactly you're expecting, so combine it all and you'll get: i'll answear as i understood the task and you just send another ask if it's not what you meant

so here we go. art process:

1 turn pc on and open sai

2 stare at the white sheet for half an our

3 play genshin impact for six hours

4 turn pc off

5 turn it on the next day

6 (optional) get inspired by lil' kids / braindead antis / just your regular hatefull dumbdumbs' comments under your previously posted art (for OMG ships)

7 scroll through pinterest to find a pose that doesn't look too boring for you to try to draw

good thing you're smart enough to save them for the future just to nevere actually ever draw any of them

8 toss the picked pose into your beloved white sheet and idk maybe trace it? just to understand wtf is going on and how to mimic it

9 move your trac… kheM KHEM construction tip to the side and while looking at it and at the ref try your best to copy the pose as believable as you can

(make sure to do it on millioms or at least couple of layers just cause you're insecure indecisive baby who has no idea wtf he's doing and wants an option to make some changes without completely fucking up everything more than he already did by opening sai in the first place)

10 clean the lines the best you can

Inner Voice Chapter 5

Tw for refs to internalised emotional abuse. *

When they go back into the theatre, she's still tucked under Anna's arm: Anna hasn’t disengaged her and she can’t quite bring herself to move away until she has to.

The others aren't practising,as she hoped they would be, and they aren’t even lounging in their usual breaktime spots. Instead, they’re sitting in an anxious huddle close to the door. 

Cathy taps her foot, and Anne is gripping the neck of her water bottle rather too tightly.

‘Kitty!’

‘Are you alright?’

‘What happened?’

She gives a small nod-shrug and presses closer to Anna. She doesn’t really want to have to go over the whole thing with them again, she’s sure there will be some eye-rolling at the very least.

Anna tries to shrug off their concern. ‘She’s just having a hard day, everything is fine.’

There’s a shift in energy- no one quite believes her, no one seems to want to probe, and she’s just wondering if anyone is mentally tallying up how many minutes of rehearsal time she’s wasted, or how much this will be held against her, when Cathy steps forward and hands Kitty her water bottle.

‘It can be really hard, having to do the high-emotion thing all the time.’ She gives Kitty a small sympathetic smile. ‘You did well to keep on so long though, I’d have cracked much earlier.’

Funnily enough, she doesn’t sound impatient. In fact, she’s oddly matter of face- as if Kitty’s histrionics were par of the course, as opposed to a sign of deep-rooted personal weakness.

‘You saved me from begging for mercy, I thought I was going to pass out after the fifth time-’

‘God, same-’

Suddenly, they’re all nodding and chipping in about how tired they were getting, and it’s on the tip of Kitty’s tongue to apologise (if only she’d been more with it, they wouldn’t have had to keep doing her song) when Aragon cuts in.

‘Shall we take a break? I think we’re due one anyway.’

Anne jumps at the Spanish queen’s suggestion- ‘God yes. I forgot to get any coffee this morning-’ and half sits, half collapses to the floor, dramatically. 

The others group around her. She can’t deny that she’s grateful for the chance to sit down at last but she also can’t help eying the time nervously.

‘I’m sorry for- delaying everything-’ 

‘Oh love-’ Jane leans forward, drawing Kitty into her arms and hugging her tightly. It’s not familiar like Anna but still warm, still soft- still comforting, despite the fact that she’s still a little nervous around Jane (around all of them) and that it’s totally unexpected. 

Jane’s embrace feels nice though- not suffocating as she imagined, but safe, something she might even be able to get used to.

‘You have nothing to be sorry for’ Aragon adds decisively.

Still, she still feels like she owes them more of an explanation.

‘I’m sorry I ruined the rehearsal, I was just-’ She swallows. ‘-really tired-’

It's not an explanation at all, she knows that- she's had it drummed into her that personal weakness is no excuse for shrinking of duties, but still it’s the only explanation she has.

She holds her breath, waiting for the eye rolls and sighs (or worse, the anger that she’s clearly not really sorry at all but lying in order to manipulate them into feeling sorry for her)- but the other queens just nod as if she’s not only justified but reasonable.

‘We shouldn’t have made you do that awful journey yesterday-’

‘We should have just told them no-’

‘God, we fucked up….’

Jane lets her go so that Anne can fling an arm around her instead, and it’s funny, to see her cousin- who she can still barely talk to- be so indignant on her behalf. As if she- and her welfare- matter.

‘We should have made you stay home!’

Aragon nods ruefully. ‘Yes. I think we dropped the ball a bit.’

‘We should have taken better care of you-’

The words make her throat fill with anxiety. How has she managed to do it again, to twist these poor women into guilt on her behalf?

(Because that’s what you do, that’s what you’re like, you manipulate people, you hurt people, you use people- and they’ll see through it eventually, they’ll all see through it, and they’ll hate you, they’ll hate you-)

‘No, I’m sorry, I’m alright, I’m fine-’

‘Kitty-’

‘I’m sorry, I was lazy-’ She can feel the words are coming too fast but she can’t stop them. ‘I’ll be better, we don’t need to stop-’

‘Kitty, it’s alright-’

She pulls herself away from Anna’s side and stands up, she needs to show them how this isn’t an act, she’s being sincere, she’s not trying to guilt them or force them to coddle her-

‘I’m fine-’ She's almost panting with the effort of assuring them she’s ok, that she’s not going to be any trouble. Her eyes are stinging again. 

The other queens are standing too, but not in a good way, like they’re listening to her and believing her.

They’re looking like they’re still worried, like she's somehow still managing to trick them. She doesn’t know how to make them believe her, although she’s trying, she's trying so hard- and a sob that she can’t hold back escapes her.

‘Kitty-’ Aragon steps in front of her, blocking off the others and placing her hands gently onto her shoulders, and she flinches, waiting for it- whatever it is- to come. ‘You need to calm down, alright? Just slow down. Can you do that for me?’

She nods, gulping. She doesn’t want to make Aragon any angrier, after all. Out of all of the others, Aragon is indisputably the most intimidating- the oldest, the most poised. Her hands, through, are surprisingly gentle.

‘Good.’ Aragon slowly presses her back down to her place on the floor. She’s much too nervous of the woman to spring back up, and the others sink back too, looking worried. 

‘No one is cross, love. No one thinks you’re lazy.’ Jane reaches out as if to touch her and then pulls herself back with effort when Kitty flinches again.

She can't say anything without contradicting her directly so she doesn't.

‘Why does the idea of being taken care of upset you so much, mija?’

Aragon is looking at her intently, like she’s waiting for an answer, but Anne leans forward when she shifts uncomfortably.

‘You don't have to answer Kitty-’

‘That's true.’ Surprisingly, Aragon doesn't bite off Anne’s head for interrupting. ‘But I'd like her to tell me- tell us, if she can.’ She looks at Kitty persistently. ‘Kitty? Has someone made you think you shouldnt be looked after?’

She can't unstick her tongue enough to defy Aragon- and she’d never have the courage anyhow, so she nods, partly because it's true and she's afraid to lie, partly because it doesn’t require talking.

‘Was it someone recently?’

She gives a tiny shake of the head. It only feels recent.

‘You know they were wrong though, right?’

She shakes her head again and Anna looks puzzled.

‘Kitty?’

She knows she's going to have to explain, if only to stop them all from looking at her. More than ever, she wants their eyes off of her.

She takes a deep shaky breath.

‘You don’t understand… I….I’m doing it again. I’m trying not to but I am- and it’s not fair on you all, because you’re all really nice but-’

‘Doing what?’

She doesn’t want to tell them but she has to, she has to take ownership of herself, that was how Henry always put it.

‘Manipulating you….making you feel sorry for me.’ She swipes at her cheeks. ‘It’s just how I am but I want to be better, I’m trying to be better-’

‘How are you manipulating us, Kitty?’ Aragon’s voice is very calm, very measured. 

‘I’m making you feel sorry for me….to- to get what I want-’

‘And what do you want?’

She doesn’t understand- the softness of Aragon’s question, as if she hasn’t just admitted to being a terrible person, the neutral curiosity in the faces of the others, as if they haven’t been giving her sympathy and kindness undeservedly.

‘I want- I want to rest.’ She’s trembling. ‘I want to stop and I know I can’t, I know this is my job and it’s not harder on me than it is on you, I do know it, I do, but still-’ Her voice cracks. ‘I’m making you all feel sorry for me rather than just getting on with it, and-’ She chokes on the words ‘I know you’ll see what I’m like and I’m so afraid you’ll hate me for me it, but as much as I try, I can’t...I can’t be better-’

She’s crying too hard to go on, and she’s waiting for their reactions- for their anger, their betrayal, their disgust, or even just for them to get up and go, leaving her alone. 

(She can’t even decide which would be worse.)

There’s a silence- a silence that drags out forever, and then movement, and she braces herself- only to find herself being scooped back into Jane’s arms and held tightly against her soft chest, and at the same time, there’s a babble of voices.

‘Oh-’

‘Oh Kitty-’

‘Oh my god-’

They don’t sound angry exactly, as much as they sound horrified, but somehow, none of it seems to be directed at her.

‘Oh love- you’re not doing anything wrong, you’re not a bad person...’

‘It doesn't make you bad to want a break, it doesn’t mean you're manipulating us if we notice-’

‘Kit, why would you even think such a thing?’

‘You don't-’ she pulls herself away from Jane and looks round at them, desperate to make them understand. ‘You don’t know me- he, he knew me, he knew what I was like-

‘Henry?’

She nods, sniffling. ‘You’re all lovely but- you’re lovely but you don't know me, if you did, you'd see the things in me that he did. And you will see them, eventually, and I-’ She presses a hand to her mouth. ‘I- I know you’ll hate me when you do-’

‘What did he say to you, Kitty?’ Anne leans in, intent, and then squeezes her hand. ‘Tell us.’

‘I can’t-’

‘You can. Please, Kitty. We want to understand.’ She looks round at the others. ‘Don’t we?’

They all nod. 

She supposes she owes it to Anne- her only cousin, who she's let down so much already by being so very useless- to be honest.

She takes a breath, wills herself to be brave.

‘He….he could see that I was lazy. He said he could tell I couldn't make myself stick to- to anything. That I was stupid- really stupid, I couldnt understand things he’d tell me, really simple things-’ She wonders if any of them are nodding, if they’re looking at each other like ‘Ah yes, I see it now’. ‘He said he noticed how I would make people feel sorry for me to get out of things- that I knew how to make people do what I want, that I liked it. That he could see I liked the control. That I was…’ This is the hardest to say. ‘That I was bad. A nasty person. Cruel. That’s….that’s all.’ 

But she knows it’s quite enough.

Can you tell us more about your fursona?

im gonna assume you mean Blank, my albino white shepherd!

Blank’s original name was Raven. i wanted a “dark” name to contrast her light appearance, like Shadow, or Shade, or Coal, or Smokey, but i went with Raven, i dont know why but i did!

i chose a white german shepherd because i was currently obsessed with Bolt, the disney movie!! its still one of my all time fav movies. 

I made her super plain white, turquoise eyes taken from the anime character Toshiro Hitsuguaya from Bleach (i always thought his eyes were the most BEAUTIFUL shade of blue EVER...)

i was also really into bandanas and camo patterns, specifically gray camo, thus ending up with THIS:

she wasn’t my main fursona then, i had a different character, but she was one of the many i had. i didnt draw her much, cause i liked complicated, fun designs, and she wasnt all that fun to draw. i mostly drew her in vent art cause it was the easiest, and she was more of a serious character (dont let that smile fool you)

When i finally up’d her to my main sona, i added a SHIT load of gear to her. this was during the era of making fun of wolf a boos and sparkledogs. they were major cringe, and i took great pride in NOT having such a colorful, blinding character. but she was STILL boring to draw, so what did i do?

GEARED HER UP BABEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i LOVE wearing hats, ofc i gave her one, including a spiked collar, and her gray bandana. wristbands, a ...bandage? i liked to wear as if i had some sort of wound, gave her an ipod arm band (including headphones), a sticker (it mightve actually been meant to be a TATTOO?) with my favorite number (11), and on her right shoulder an LOL face sticker, earrings, a chained wristband along her leg wristbands cause i played LOZ twilight princess and i liked the chain on Wofl Links leg, AND............A CHAIN...HARNESS?? oh also changed her eyes to red. cause red eyes were badass.

i almost NEVER drew her harness tho. FUCK CHAINS...

i changed my fursona again tho, to a lil fennec fox named Zenka. i made Raven more of a High school persona kinda of character, and also for vent again. i updated her designs but kept a lot of stuff on her still, i was really attached to a buncha her stuff. got rid of the chains and wrist bands and the stickers. combined her collar and bandana, made a camo printed collar, gave her a KITTY HAT i loved these types of hats back then!!! i collected the hell out of them! i gave her a pink nose, green eyes, and black faded tip tail (i played okami recently ghfdk). oh and i actually learned a bit of anatomy, so she looks more like an actual shepherd dog.

(got a tablet recently. did i mention the ones before were drawn with a mouse? its all tablet drawings from here on out)

i drew these only a few years ago for funsies, but this is a side by side comparison

i started to FINALLY become attached to Raven, but i wasnt feeling her green eyes, and i was starting to love pink. minus the black tipped tail, which i forgot (or maybe i didnt cause this was when i got the albino idea), here is when i officially started the process to permanently changing her design to what it is today. i also noticed i had a nick on my left ear, so its been an official staple of all my fursonas designs ever since.

made her a new anthro form that i ended up NEVER drawing after i made this cause i had no idea how to design clothes. disclaimer, ive NEVER smoked but i thought it was Cool(tm) back then, so id draw my sonas smoking. at least smoking rainbows didnt sound or look so deadly. LOVER TRACK BY TRACK REVIEW

i forgot that you existed — don’t like the beginning she sounds like a robot lol. “in my feelings more than drake”??? girl no thank you. not a big fan of this song. 3/10. fave lyric is “it isn’t love / it isn’t hate / it’s just indifference”; least fave is “in my feelings more than drake, yeah”.

cruel summer — love the production on this one! her voice sounds really good and i love the way she sings “cruel summer”. 8.5/10. fave lyric is “so cut the headlights / summer’s a knife / i’m always waiting for you just to cut to the bone”; no least fave lyrics here!

lover — the TENDERNESS of this song! love how easy and pretty and acoustic it it is. 9.5/10. fave lyric is “my heart’s been borrowed and yours has been blue / all’s well that ends well to end up with you”; no least fave again!

the man — okay “when everyone believes you / what’s that like?” wig! also when she’s like if i was a man…….then i’d be the man…….and the synths do That in the background? it does feel very Feminism 101 in the verses but the chorus is fun! idk i expected more from this one and it’s def fun but not an all time fave. 6/10. fave lyric is “i’m so sick of running as fast as i can / wondering if i’d get there quicker if i was a man”; least fave is “and they would toast to me, oh, let the players play / i’d be just like leo in saint tropez”.

the archer — SO gorgeous and vulnerable! love the gentle and introspective vibes of this one and how simple the backing track is. her voice is so pretty in this one! would love to hear this totally acoustic. 9.5/10. fave lyric is “i cut off my nose just to spite my face / and i hate my reflection for years and years”; least fave is the pre-chorus bit that’s similar to humpty dumpty you know the one lol.

i think he knows — ugh hate the intro again talky-singing works well for her sometimes but it really doesn’t work here. very bored by this one. it feels like it’s trying so hard to be fun but it doesn’t have particularly interesting instrumentals/synths/whatever and her voice is way too talky-singy for me here. the last chorus is kinda fun but not enough to fix the whole song. 4/10. favorite lyric is “he got my heartbeat / skipping down sixteenth avenue baby”; least fave is “he got that boyish look that i like in a man / i am an architect, i’m drawing up the plans”.

miss americana & the heartbreak prince — pretty intro! the talky-singing works a little better for me here. the pageant/prom conceit is fun. very amused by her still comparing her adult life to high school prom considering she left high school at like what 15/16 for music? jdeasjkkjcskjn it’s fun tho this song is fun. i have a feeling this one will grow on me. 8/10. fave lyric is “we're so sad, we paint the town blue / voted most likely to run away with you”; least fave is the “she’s a bad bad girl bit” lol 

paper rings — ooh fun intro! like whatever effect they have over her voice. this one has a really cool beat. like the kiss me once/kiss me twice bit. the chorus is really sweet! the tune is very dance-worthy. i could def see this being played in a romcom (cue me adding it to the playlist for my gay summer camp romcom). didn’t expect to like this one so much but i’m enjoying it a lot so far! idk abt the lyrics im not even listening that closely jfekwjakjnkjn i just love the beat and the effect they have over her voice. also can’t stop thinking about when rey @theglowpt2 said “wrap your arms around me, baby boy” sounds something the try guys would shout at each other lmfao. 8.5/10. fave lyric is “darling, you’re the one i want / and paper rings and picture frames and dirty dreams / oh, you’re the one i want”; least fave is “wrap your arms around me, baby boy” bc of aforementioned try guys energies making it humorous instead of cute as intended for me.

cornelia street — like her voice in the intro it sounds very pretty and soft! don’t like the weird synth thing going on at the beginning tho it’s giving me a headache. don’t like the way she launches into the chorus it feels very abrupt. “we bless the rains on cornelia street” lol is this a toto ref? this one is pretty underwhelming ngl. her voice is pretty in some places here though. would probably enjoy an acoustic version of this a lot more. 6/10. fave lyric is “and baby, i get mystified by how this city screams your name”; no least fave lyric but i hate those loud synth things at the beginning more than anything.

 death by a thousand cuts — totally thought this was gonna be a song about like. bitter ~haters~ or smth by the title. her voice is really pretty after the “my my my” bit! love the synths in this one. the line about the traffic lights…...wig! okay totally expected to not like this one but i kinda like it. laughing at her going “UNITED WE STAND” tho lmfao. this one will def grow on me. 8/10. fave lyric is “i ask the traffic lights if it’ll be alright / they say i don’t know”; least fave is “our songs, our films, united we stand / our country, guess it was a lawless land”.

london boy — oh excited for the absolute INSANITY of this one girls! DID SHE JUST REFER TO HER HOMETOWN AS SOCAL GIRL YOU ARE FROM PENNSYLVANIA!!!!! also so amused about she needs to reference the fact that she is american and her bf is british so many times. if i heard this song out in public i’d have to die. did she make a p!atd ref lol. unfortunate as hell but it’s kinda fun. 4/10. fave is none of it; least fave is all of it. 

 soon you’ll get better — oh this one is gonna make me SOB i just know it!!!! the vulnerableness of it all. thank you for a song about family ms taylor! the harmonies w the dixie chicks i’m ascending. this one is so so gorgeous and heartbreaking and the first song off this album that actually really made me Feel Something. 10/10. fave lyric is “the buttons of my coat were tangled in my hair / in doctor’s office lighting / i didn’t tell you i was scared”; no least fave!!! She’s Perfect

 false god — intro is fun! i like her voice in this one it’s #sexi. the line abt being nyc is funny lol…..girl what does that mean you are not a town what does that MEAAAAN. taylor swift said YES i fuck what about it in this song. the line about being the west village…...what does that mean? he’s expensive??? 6.5/10. fave lyric is “the altar is my hips / even if it’s a false god / we’d still worship this love”; least fave is “staring out the window like i’m not your favorite town / i’m new york city, i’d still do it for you, babe”.

 you need to calm down — i REFUUUUSE to listen to this song all the way it’s so corny and ridiculous. taylor rly thot she was doing smth w this one. 3.5/10. no fave lyric; least fave is like. ALL of it it’s very cheesy.

 afterglow — pretty vocals! love me some vulnerable songs. not much to say about this one lol. i like the chorus a lot. 7.5/10. fave lyric is “fighting with a true love is boxing with no gloves / chemistry 'til it blows up, 'til there’s no us / why'd I have to break what i love so much?”; least fave is “tell me that it’s not my fault / tell me that i’m all you want / even when i break your heart”.

 me! — unpopular opinion but i actually prefer me! to yntcd. idk why i just feel like me! knows how ridiculous and silly it is but yntcd does not. maybe that’s just me tho? 4/10. can’t believe she killed the best line of all time aka “hey kids spelling is fun”...that was HILARIOUSLY BAD AND WONDERFUL AT THE SAME TIME. that would’ve been the fave; least fave is the awkward uncomfortable space where “hey kids spelling is fun” used to be.

 it’s nice to have a friend — very forgettable. her vocals here are pretty but the song overall is nothing special imo. do like the dreamy vibes tho! 4.5/10. fave or least fave lyrics tbh it’s just boring to me pretty but boring.

 daylight — WHY is taylor swift so obsessed w/ mentioning that some of her friends turned out to be dicks. absolutely OBSESSED w/ that edit that’s like “i wounded the good and trusted the wicked” over katy perry and karlie kloss respectively it’s peak comedy. very pretty vocals but has some unfortunate lyrics! 5.5/10. fave lyric is “i, i just think that / you are what you love”; least fave is “i wounded the good and i trusted the wicked / clearing the air, i breathed in the smoke”.

overall: probably like a 6.5/10? had some really great tracks like lover & the archer & soon you’ll get better but also some BAD ones like me!, yntcd, and i forgot that you existed. it was a fun time but not an all time fave. in terms of tswift album rankings i’m not sure where i’d put it yet get back to me on that one. anyways i’m gonna go listen to lucy dacus now bye

Sorry this took me an age to answer - I have answered this question a while back, I think it might be in my art tips tag! But to go through it fast, my process is something like

find a line or an exchange I want to deliver, or a topic I want discussed (usually happens randomly as I’m doing other things)

spend a million years just staring at a wall or at my ceiling or anything else as I build a whole scene in my mind to have the lines or topic take the form of an actual comic (might take two minutes, might take a month)

draw a rough sketch of the whole comic - I do this with all panels (and pages, when I separate a comic in pages) on the same canvas, so that I can look at the whole scene all together and get a good sense of the general flow of the storytelling. This process includes cutting panels, moving panels around, reshaping panels, trying different poses and angles for the same panels to find the right one, writing and deleting and re-writing lines till I’m sure the wording is what I’m going for*

line the panels - I mean the actual panels, the straight lines delimitating the panel, I line them all first and put them on a separate layer

line the people!! All the characters in every panel are lined in this stage

line the backgrounds! In case there are backgrounds and the comic is meant to stay in black and white, if not then color the backgrounds! (I always start coloring from the backgrounds cause they’re the boring parts and if I leave them for last I never do them ever #rip)

in case of black and white comics, we fill in flat, gray-scale colors at this point (or, as I’ve lately started doing, I only put down shadows and leave it at that). If it’s in colors, we color the people!

Write down the dialogue!! *at this point we change a lot of the dialogue again because enough time has passed since I sketched it that I changed my mind on everything, don’t be like me

you’re done!

All of it is done on one single canvas, unless it’s a comic with separate paneled pages in which case they’re all done on their own canvas but still drawn all together. That’s about it, hope it was at least a little bit useful!

5 ROAD TRIP MUST HAVES

Road trips can be a ton of fun but they can also be pretty stressful. Getting ready for a road trip can be super simple with these five must haves! My son is five years old and we’ve been taking road trips since he was about nine months old. The first few trips I packed a whole bunch of stuff and didn’t really need everything. Now that we’ve done this over a dozen times with a mix of short and long trips I have compiled a good list of my road trip must haves.

1. A CUP THAT KEEPS THE ICE COLD. My whole family loves ice water but it is not always easy to keep ice frozen. Hours of driving, in and out of the car, in and out of the sun, the ice melts fast. Now there are so many cups that keep the ice frozen and the water ice cold. I guess it is just the excitement of putting the money in and making your selection that draws people in. No matter how well I plan and how well I pack we always end up getting something from the vending machines. Nothing is worse than stopping after hours on the road and listening to your child freak out because you forgot to bring a dollar for the vending machine. 3. TRASH BAG. Ok, I admit, this one is a pretty obvious one but I have been known to forget a time or two. It sucks being stuck in a cramped car as it is but it is even worse when the car has trash everywhere. Having a trash bag means all of the trash can go in the bag and easily emptied at a gas station or rest stop. Easy clean up and more room for fun car games or a nice nap.

4. MUSIC. Yes another obvious one! I hate trying to find a good radio station as I’m driving from state to state so I like to bring plenty of CD’s. People still use CD’s right? I make sure to bring plenty because once I’ve memorized and sung every song once or twice I need to move on.

5. BABY WIPES! I don’t care who you are or if you even have a baby, baby wipes are a life saver! At sketchy rest stops with no toilet paper? Baby wipes! Spill your soda all over the place? Baby wipes! Sticky hands? Baby wipes! Want to freshen up after being in the car all day? Baby wipes! I’m telling you if you have an issue babywipes are the solution. I like most baby wipes I have tried but my advice is getting non-scented.

Bonus tip! If you need to save your receipts from the trip bring a gallon size zip lock bag. Whenever you get a receipt put it in the bag and store the bag in the glove box.

THAT’S NOT MY SPACE DAD (A conspiracy post to support that Shorty McTuft isn’t OUR Shiro)

If you haven’t watched Season 3 of voltron, I suggest you turn back unless you want spoilers.

ALRIGHT, LISTEN UP. Amidst all the conspiracy posts saying that the Shiro Keith found floating in the middle of fucking nowhere is a clone, it is possible with the signs through out S3E5 and onwards. The Black Lion rejecting him, his hair getting too long at a short amount of time, the flashbacks. The words are all there. 

But with all the posts I’ve read about that, there’s something I noticed while writing this heartbreaking fanfic about fake Shiro that made me remember that scene where he cauterized his leg. Then I noticed something, a detail that I’ve never read on the conspiracy posts floating around. 

It’s this motherfucker right here:

THAT’S RIGHT. HIS GALRA HAND/ARM. (PS: sorry for the toggles and shiz, I dont know how remove that. But that’s okay. Use it as ref to scan the eps.) As we all know, this sweet lil weapon of destruction Shiro’s #1 detail. And the Galra, being diabolically clever as they are, missed one little, itsy bitsy detail on the Shiro they decided to throw in a photocopying machine. 

OUR Shiro’s Galra arm, when activated, looks like THIS:

Here we see our Pidgeon using Shiro’s Galra arm to power up a dead Galra ship and download info about Matt and Sam. As you could see, even if it’s not destroying the shit out of something/someone, it still glows up until the forearm when activated.

SO MOVING ON. And How does Season 3 Shiro’s Galra hand look like? This:

If you would notice, his hand glows UNTIL THE WRIST only.There is no depiction of any light past that joint. At first I thought that this was an animation error like how how the animators sometimes forget to draw his scar. Then I scanned through the episode further.

ANYWAY. The last time I checked, that arm is connected to Shiro’s brain and as it is deemed to be advanced alien technology mixed with Druid magic, it is permanent on him. That little detail isn’t consistent between Shiro and and this hobo in a floating tin can that Keith picked up from God-knows-where. 

With those being said, I would like to conclude my hypothesis that this mofo here ain’t Space Dad.

General Keith meta I guess. This is very long, but good writing ref for all you fellow fic authors.

Keith is a very sensitive guy.

Basically... out of all the voltron characters, Keith is the most relatable to me. I see him as someone who thinks more from his heart than from his head, who really does genuinely just want to do the right thing but gets way too carried away with what’s going on in his own head. He doesn’t care for people telling him what to do because he wants independence, but he is very emotionally affected by them regardless. He’s got a strong willpower, but the way he applies it is very much built around people and emotion.

Okay. So. First thing that comes to mind is the bonding moment? Obviously. He’s the kind of guys who clearly reads really deeply into things and probably overthinks a lot of things if he has nothing better to do.

I mean, yes, he does charge into situations unprepared without thinking ALL THE TIME but when he’s forced to sit down and think - say, for example, when he’s tossing and turning waiting for lance to come out of the healing pod (I see those lines under your eyes, Keith. I see them.) - he really goes at it. He reads into situations too much and tries to fit them to what he hopes for; does he dare to venture so far as to say that maybe Lance and him have something special now? In reality Lance was just a half-delirious boy pleased that he just blasted sendak, but Keith read way too much into it and went into their next interactions with a lot of hopes that were very quickly shot down.

He reads into the smile and the handholding as a sign of friendship. “we are a good team” probably means something deeper - it probably means Lance is realizing that they (as in, specifically him and keith) work really well together. He doesn’t see it as a spur of the moment thing - he feels like Lance has developed something more permanent with him, and so he cant resist the smile that comes to his face. We see that - he looks at lance for a second or two before slowly shifting into a smile - because he’s thinking and going through these what-ifs and reading into what those words mean.

Everyone always talks about this, I don’t really need to go into it - he’s very worried and concerned and pouty and all that good stuff. But there are lines under his eyes. Unfortunately I don’t have screenshots to add here right now, but those lines aren’t always under his eyes - so he was definitely losing sleep over Lance. I mean, if that doesn’t mean he was an emotional hurricane until Lance stumbled out asking about clocks, i don’t know how else you could interpret it.

He’s salty - because Lance forgot their bonding moment, Lance literally lost information so Keith’s making a jab at Lance’s memory loss. He clearly hasn’t stopped thinking about it. It was important to him, Lance doesn’t remember - - - - and now there’s no way he can just get over it without some kind of emotional release, which of course comes out through an insult.

we’re going back to the beginning. Lance and Keith, neck and neck - what does that mean?? Keith really has no memory of this boy, and here he is antagonizing him. That creates stress. And he’s already saving Shiro, whom he clearly has already known for a while. It’s a high-stress situation and adding these complex social dynamics is too much to focus on so he mutters out “congratulations” and just puts his mind to the task at hand.

Keith does this. He channels his emotions into action whenever he doesn’t want to think about them - this is really apparent all throughout the show, I’m not sure I need to go into examples here. But of course he hasn’t gotten Lance’s comment out of his system yet, and hearing him jabbering on from the back of his hover bike plane thing, the insult just kind of creates itself. It’s another way Keith tends to release his negative energy - he can’t cope with it himself, so he yells, he glares, he makes passive aggressive jabs.

It’s not just impulse, it’s an inability to hold his emotions down. The slightest things tend to enter his brain and he starts thinking about them too much, and he immediately needs release from that. Hence the temperamental nature, the tendency to seek isolation.

Which is another thing I’d like to get into. Keith likes being alone.

I think there’s more to it than just, “I like it out here. It’s quiet.” Keith has a tendancy to react to every stimulus around him: as I’ve said above, he overthinks small things and immediately seeks release for those building emotions. So he isolates himself because it’s comforting when he doesn’t have to work around other people. Lance especially: someone who definitely makes conscious effort to get on Keith’s nerves and one up him, someone who’s naturally a talkative boy. That’s a little too much for Keith, who prefers people who can either go along with him or will leave him alone. It’s not always a good thing though, and Lance knows that and calls him out on his behavior a lot, which is why I think Keith is very aware of the fact that his behavior is problematic - but I’ll get to that later.

Keith’s tendancy to look for places that are more secluded, quiet, and undisturbed by anything that isn’t his own i think reflects on an aspect of Keith’s personality that also explains why Keith gets along with Shiro so well. (And before I go on, I’m going off the theory that the cast has hinted at that Shiro is 25 and the other three boys are all 17ish.) Shiro is older than him and wiser, but he never uses it against keith or as a reason that keith should respect him. “you’re like a brother to me” is a very important choice of words because it reveals a lot about the way Keith sees Shiro, besides of course the obvious brotherly feelings. Keith is known for having issues with authority figures, so the fact that he calls Shiro his brother is significant in that Keith views him as an equal, but still as a guiding figure/role model. The choice of words denotes more respect toward Shiro than it would have if Keith had said “you’re like a father to me.”

Where Keith is concerned, a brother is more important than a father because not only does Keith have a distaste for authority figures, he specifically has issues with his own dad. Calling Shiro his brother equates shiro to someone Keith can wholly trust to stand by him no matter what. At the same time, Shiro fits Keith’s personality well because he’s gentle and he suggests things more often than he commands things. He doesn’t say, “Keith, you’re going to be the next black paladin,” he says, “I want you to lead voltron.” It’s a very clear distinction between “you” and “i” - the first one puts Keith on the spot, while the second one keeps it in Shiro’s perspective. The way Shiro communicates with Keith is simple and it doesn’t make Keith feel like he’s forced into anything, and Keith craves this easy comfort, especially with his high-riding emotions.

Back to lance for a bit. I’m not saying Lance is the worst person for Keith to ineract with. Their clashing personalities is exactly what makes them so dynamic as rivals, yes, but we also see that Lance is the only other person who seems to be able to calm Keith down and force him to think through things in a different way. Stopping him in the balmera, calming him down in the blade of marmora episode, etc. Yet, lance’s approach is drastically different from Shiro’s - so what makes him draw a similarly effective response from Keith?

I think this is more to do with Lance’s personality than Keith’s. I’ll keep this short - Lance is very drawn to people. We see this in how quick he is to flirt, we see this in how easily he picks up altean lingo, we see this in how fast he runs to defend people he’s just met, we see this in how he doubts himself and his position in the eyes of the other paladins. He’s more afraid of letting his friends down than he is of failing the universe, the way I see it. So this friendliness and magnetic personality - it applies to Keith as well. They’re friends, too, and just the fact that Lance is good with socializing when Keith is so not is enough to baffle Keith enough that he listens to lance. It’s not with ease like it is when Shiro is calming Keith down, but it’s effective and quick - and it keeps Keith in check, which is a big thing that Shiro just... fails to do, as much as I love him.

So, about Keith’s dad... his family, in general. I wasn’t really part of the fandom back when this was news, but I think it was said that Keith is secretely very happy to be part of voltron? and that really isn’t surprising at all. I’ve stressed a lot that keith like to isolate himself, but he still really wants to be liked and accepted and part of a larger community. Growing up as an orphan and later as the Garrison’s ace pilot has drastically shaped Keith’s personality. As an orphan, he’s had to learn to take care of himself, he’s had to learn some humility, he’s had to learn very quickly that the world isn’t his. Most children aren’t forced to grow out of that mindset so fast. Then Keith enlists in the garrison where he’s considered the most talented pilot of his generation, but it’s very obvious that this has never gotten to his head - we see it in his reluctance to be the black paladin, we see this in how uncomfortabe he looks everytime Lance mentions Keith from back in the garrison days. Keith is not comfortable with being in the spotlight - he’s been forced to be alone for a good part of his life and he doesn’t seek any more of it.

What’s much more important to Keith is belonging to a kind of community. Rather than being at the top, he’d prefer to have a family. Team voltron has been described as a family by Allura multiple times, and I think it’s definitely meant to feel that way. It’s the one thing that he hasn’t had for a long time, and it’s why it’s so significant that he see’s Shiro as his brother and why that admission is such high praise coming from Keith. I’m not going to get into why this is my headcanon, but Keith’s dad left keith when Keith was young and is probably still alive out there somewhere. It’s not that he needs his dad - he’s pretty distanced from him and although there are strong emotions there, there’s nothing all that phenomenal going on between them.

What’s more important about Keith’s relationship with his dad is how it contrasts with Keith’s relationship with the rest of team voltron. This is very clearly explored int the blade of marmora episode, and also another reason why Shiro is the one who is needed in that episode with keith. Shiro represents Keith’s family with voltron while his dad represents his blood-related family. The choice between the two is one of Keith’s biggest internal conflicts.

How does that tie into Keith being a sensetive person? It means Keith focuses heavily on being accepted by the people around him. It’s why it bothers him so much when Lance antagonizes him and why he tends to overthink those situations. It’s why we see those miserable expressions on Keith’s face every time Allura discriminates against his Galra side.

Yet, Keith’s still someone who rises agaisnt authority and seeks independence, so he’s not going to settle for trying to get people to like him - he wants them to like him as he is. It’s why he didn’t keep his galra lineage a secret, like I first expected he would when I was watching for the first time. It’s why he chooses to infiltrate the Galra ship. “No one’s commanding me. I’m doing it.” He knows he needs to prove both to himself and to his fellow paladins that every part of him, including the part that is Galra, is acceptable, even an asset.

It’s all part of his need to feel emotionally secure and comortable with his place in Voltron, and it’s why Hunk’s galra keith jokes are so important - Hunk’s normalizing the fact that Keith’s Galra, he’s accepting it. That means a lot to Keith, which is why even though he does give Hunk exasperated looks, he only retorts back when he needs correct Hunk by saying “I didn’t just turn galra.” Keith has always been Galra, and he’s not afraid of that fact anymore. He even smiles at Hunk by the end of the mission, because he’s comfortable knowing that Hunk accepts him as Galra without simply ignoring the fact and acting like nothing’s different.

Let’s talk about Keith dropping out. this section will be pretty short compared to 7. he mentions how he found himself lost and drawn out to the desert by some energy telling him to search. I think the blue lion could sense him because he was galra and was probably calling to him through that connection - i also think that it’s very possible that a blade of marmora galra was the former blue paladin but took the blue lion to earth to keep it away from Zarkon’s hands. The same Galra is probably Keith’s mom or ancestor or something -- anyway. Blue still chooses Lance as her paladin, but i think Keith and lance are still connected through the blue lion because of this  by @voltronturd - - A N Y WAY.

It’s obviously something that has impacted Keith very heavily. It’s the reason they found Voltron, yes, but it meant a lot of really bad things for Keith - he has no family to return to, no other career to pursue, and he winds up in the desert, aimless. Keith’s a person who commits 100% to everything he does. and as much as I fucking love the conspiracy theorist keith memes, i just don’t think it’s in character at all. It’s more of a result of him having nothing better to do and nothing else in his life left to him rather than a secret passion. Keith was definitely a broken man for that portion of his life - another reason it makes perfect sense that Keith is secretly happy being a part of voltron and why learning that didn’t surprise me.

Okay, Keith and social situations - they don’t mix, we all know this. Why, though? I’d like to go into specifically their interactions with the arusians. “I don’t normally hug strangers, but, uh, wow. You... are.. cuddly.” what’s important is how he says he doesn’t normally hug strangers - not that he doesn’t hug strangers, not that he doesn’t normally hug people, but that he doesn’t normally hug strangers. before I start sounding like a broken record, basically, Keith is not opposed to hugging at all - it’s why i fucking love cuddly keith in fanfiction. He seems completely comfortable and at ease hugging Shiro, and while not so much with Allura, that’s more attributed to the fact that she’s suddenly calling him part of her family before stepping in close and curling over his shoulders without actually hugging him. It’s more of a keith, hold me gesture than a let me hug you gesture, and for a boy who struggles with social cues a little, it explains why the two of them are a little physcially awkward in that scene. 

So it’s not so much that he’s antisocial - as i’ve already described, he needs to feel like he belongs and he needs to feel love and acceptance just as much as any of the other. But with Keith, he tends to hide his positive emotions just as much and just as quickly as he tends to expel his negative emotions. We see this in how he smiles when Lance can’t see him, we see this in how he smiles to himself when Lance is out of the pod, we see this in how he leans against a tree trunk while the arusians are celebrating, we see this in his controlled, conflicted expressions at seeing his dad - although that last one is, admittedly, a bit different. (Keith’s not exactly happy at seeing his dad, he’s pretty conflicted and hence the conflicted expression, but i digress.) He’s more free about it with Shiro, because he knows Shiro won’t shut him down. He’s more free about it when he’s alone or in charge, because, again, he won’t be shut down; we see that in episode one as he grins before plummetting over the cliff, we see that when he smiles at hunk after their scaultrite mission, we see that when he grins at Lance after nailing him with a spore-ball.

But when he doesn’t know whether it’s appropriate or whether it will be appreciated, he tends to distance himself from the people or to suppress it. So when meeting new aliens the reason he’s quiet isn’t really because he doesn’t want to talk to them, it’s really because he isn’t confident in his ability to make a desirable first impression so he’d rather just enjoy himsel fin private rather than screw things up for himself. And this next part has no solid canon backing, it’s just me taking characters and putting them in probably situations, but I think he admires lance for being able to talk to people so easily, especially because it’s a skill he lacks. He can’t really do diplomacy.

Keith knows his behavior is problematic. This ties into what I just said - he doesn’t really trust himself to create the right first impression. On the balmera mission with Lance he says “That - actually... is a better idea.” meaning he’s fully capable of seld-reflection and he’s aware that there are  better ways to do things. He’s very conscious of the fact that he’s not in control of his emotions, and not only that, but he’s not willing to fix it - We see that when Shiro tells him he needs to control his emotions and he kind of brushes it off with a “I know. I’ve just had a lot on my mind.” He doesn’t like to talk about the fact that he needs to get in control, but he definitely knows it.

It’s why he turns around and frowns when Lance tells him to calm down before they go see the blade of marmora - he knows he’s being irrational and he’s sour at being called out on it but because he knows lance is right, he doesn’t bite back. It makes sense to him that lance would say that, but he doesn’t have a response to it other than just shutting himself off and removing himself from the situation before he makes it worse. It’s revisited that same episode by shiro when he asks Keith if keith’s okay, and mentions how Keith “kind of blew up at everyone back there.” Keith’s immediate response is that he’s fine - he does this several times in season two. He’s not mature enough to deal with his emotions, and this is exactly what Shiro points out to him - and he’s not mature enough to deal with that, either, despite the fact that he knows it.

This is just kind of emphasized in the simulation later that same episode, when brain shiro says “you’re thinking of yourself, as usual.” Keith is evidently very aware that he gets carried away with his emotions, and one of his fears is that he won’t be able to control it - you’re thinking of yourself, as usual. The “as usual” is important - it proves that Keith knows it’s a deeply ingrained trait that he has had for a very long time, and he’s afraid that it’s going to continue to create problems for him. It’s important to him that Shiro says this, because given that he places a heavy importance on the feeling of being part of a family and that Shiro is the closest thing he has to it, Shiro saying this is the best way to force Keith to face the problem, and the best way to make him grow and learn to choose the better option (which is choosing voltron over his blood-related family - this growth is what awakens his blade later on.) It really is build up toward Keith taking over the black lion, but until season 3 airs in september I can still hope for black paladin allura.
