Fortnite Doodles!

i spent all evening drawing fortnite characters, i don’t really know why, but it felt good to draw again, especially traditionally. i might go back to traditional and then do digital from the traditional.

I got a strong urge to draw Zenith for some reason—I knew nothing about him except his name and that he had a fuzzy hood. didn’t even know the skin from memory but my mind said “yeah let’s draw zenith!” i’m still working on my anatomy. this is probably the first time drawing crossed arms looked good on my end-

my brother suggested iKONIK because he loves him. this was my first time trying a sitting pose like this and i like how it turned out!

for the rest, i drew a bunch of the girls! i might do them digitally and then create a six fanarts thing with them.

Finally had some down time after completing a few commissions, so I drew Raven from Fortnite. Have I ever PLAYED Fortnite? No...not at all. Yesterday, my fifth graders left my elementary school. It was an extremely challenging year but I loved all of them. The rabid people are two ends of the same demand:

"More heroes, faster."

One end wants any heroes that cater to the "Non-sjw hyper gamer" group, where 76 ismt gay, the women are all thin and sexy, and "theres enough black people, stop adding more!"

The other end is people with good intentions but come off overtly unrefined, despite being incredibly well versed in their statements. They want the thing, but instead of asking for it in the channels they can, they only bring it up when its kinda obstructive. I only see this discourse when a new, non black female character comes out, every other time... nothing, and that may be my own issue I will admit, but its never when it matters.

We got 5 more planned characters in the next coming months, interspersed with maps and events. Instead of trying to make OW the next COD or reducing it to the SU fandom picking apart what it DOES NOT have, work with it to ADD TO IT. Fanart of black female characters, hell of any characters you wanna see.

I drew one ages ago, themed around baseball, because I was on a baseball fix. Her name was a shoddy mashup of two famed baseball players, and the concept was drawn badly (I sculpt better than I draw, and at the time I had no clay). That being said, she had a baseball bat that was a rifle, and could shoot repeating or splash fire similar to Zaryas secondary. Her ultimate was an invincible tornado of helicopter bat-spinning that lasted a short time and essentially was crowd control. I got another concept in my head right now of an omnic repair girl or monorail worker "mechanic/train" themed character in my head right now. Hell, another medic like Mercy, but instead of a staff, its a wand, and she can do AOE healing, and burst damage/heal. It's not hard, but among the players, the discourse never occurs when it NEEDS to. A buddy of mine who plays fucking hated the way they made soldier gay, but actively couldnt tell me why it was bad. He never ENGAGED in character discourse that was meaningful or useful. its always bland, men with guns. "Why not a talom tank with guns, or another defensive hero, or another sniper, or a better healer?" And every concept was repurposed halo or COD or hell fucking FORTNITE ideas.

We need to engage in character discourse more, much more, as the hardcore gaming variety do not think of it, and find it hard to enjoy, despite A LARGE PORTION OF THEIR TEAMMATES BEING THE ONES NOT REPRESENTED.

I know its a shite and tedious thing, it pisses you off, and it pisses me off, but the fact is we arent vocal, im not vocal, enough. its not that Blizzard cant, or wont, its that its on the backburner because they think "hey, were good, no ones said stuff." Say something, say it loud, say it long, say it as much as you can.

I'm not qualified to gauge representation, but overwatch has the best inclination to represent, and be fun at the same time. It doesnt have a constant discourse around what it has that others dont, it doesnt have a discourse around being samey, because it isnt the same all the time. I play zarya mostly, and I can say every addition or update requires a deep inspection of play, and a widening of my abilities with characters. I want those characters to reflect the people that play them, deeply, everyone does.

And soon, they will.

God. I love Overwatch and the fandom is cool but if you even mention a black woman they turn fucking rabid 🙄

Arthur: So, I have a lot of fun with this game, since it’s, like the developers said, Left 4 Dead meets Minecraft. Also I really like my character, and Brid even drew fanart of her once. Like, that’s the best compliment you can get from an artist friend.

Arthur: Storm eye’s closing. I’d actually really like to know the lore behind the storm eye. I know that there’s the thing where like 90% of the human population died, but I’d just... actually like to know.
