Went out with 5 friends yesterday and after 2 peeled off, 4 of us went to a different bar where a third person left, but the last 3 of us stayed (and it's the latest I've ever been out I think, like I was home at like a quarter to 4) and it was so fun, but I keep thinking about this absolute legend of a guy we met, he was from copenhagen which I won't hold against him, and clearly already drunk, maybe somewhere in his early to mid 40s, and got so excited that one of us was rolling her own cigarettes, and he showed off he had a hidden full size vodka bottle stuffed down the front of his pants, and he also showed off his knuckle tattoos which on one hand was an area code for and I quote "the worst part of copenhagen" and then he showed the other hand which was like numbers that each represents a letter (idk what that's called) and was like "you guys know what this means right? Do we agree?" very excitedly, and it literally means "ACAB" lmao

Anyway then when he and his friends came back out later and saw that I was ALSO rolling my own cigarettes he got even more excited, pulled out the vodka bottle and asked if we didn't want a shot each, and normally I would not in any way want to accept a drink from a guy I don't know from a bottle stuffed down his pants, but I said sure man, if you're offering why not, not intending to actually drink it, but one of my friends downed hers immediately before he even finished pouring for the rest of us, and it literally was just vodka so I also just drank mine (well, half, he filled up my shot glass quite a bit more than hers had been, not on purpose but he was drunk and it was hard to control, so I gave her half of mine) and it was just such a fun experience and he had such a rad fucking vibe and he was so nice lmao, like he left immediately after and wasn't in any way pushy even though one of his friends was telling him he was and telling us she'd drag him along so he wasn’t intruding, but he was just honestly a great dude and it was a great experience and I had a really good time overall and I love my friends 😭

#AND i think my new meds are also helping my tolerance a lot because last time we were out i had half a beer and was way more drunk than last #night where i had almost a full 750ml bottle of 5% alcohol myself 2 shots a gin hass a breezer and 2 juice and vodka/gin drinks #and i dont have anything even remotely close to a hangover today thank god still havent experienced one #but it's also a testament to how much i like these people because i had a pretty bad headache all day yesterday from when i woke up and i #forgot my loop earplugs at home and i still stayed out as long as the rest did #it was such a lovely time #we also all chatted and played Red Flags and Cards against humanity and later Who's most likely to and it was just such a good time #as someone who lost the years of my life when people usually do the drinking and partying and only have tried it once or twice it just means #a lot #and then meeting fun randos on top of it is just. idk it feels like I'm maybe starting to catch up on what i missed?#it's great #who knew life could be like this #my post

#ingital #did you know there's a bit in ingital i cut out where he tells Neuvillette they have to go get their kids tested. it's cut out of the carol #and vautrin scene. because I wanted to recontextualise carole's canon story as like about her social ostracisation because she's #a weird little girl with a very strong sense of justice (autistic like her dad lol). and I wanted it to just be a family moment where #wriothesley just very casually suggests getting their kids tested to see if they need additional support. and its just because i wanted it #to be seen as a very normal. even slightly positive moment (carole you're just like your papa!). because . you dont often see an autism #diagnosis as a Normal thing. much less a silly fun thing. and Ingital is silly fun the fic #the thing is. I specifically sat down and told myself. I'm gonna write a neurotypical man because not every single guy in my fic has to be #neurodivergent. when I write wriothesley it's usually more about trauma cptsd and high functioning depression anyway.#but I am autistic. even my trauma/depression/mentally ill experience is viewed through autistic lens. which is why im like #I should learn how to write a neurotypical man right. this is so dire. because what if i CANT. genuinely confused at how my dad decided to get a degree in a scientific field

#i think it might have been a legacy thing from his granpa cause how else #that man hates everything that is related to science he hates learning he hates being wrong #it seems like he got all knowledge before age 18 and just stuck with it what he forgot he forgot it no longer exists #today it was earthquake denier basically his opinion is that over here there was 1755 and nothing else #just loud and dumb and wrong #i do Not get it. like i love science!! the whole fun of it is learning new things! especially at this surface level #where you can just get a bunch of knowledge about a bunch of different shit and broaden your library of fun facts and trivia #but he genuinely hates learning. idk if it hurts his ego to realize he is a lot dumber in a lot of different topics than a lot of ppl #like sir you who last studied earthquakes in 5th grade and never again do not know more than a doctor of sismology you just dont!!#like its not even close!!! that should be a good thing to realize! that people just go ham on their niche interests and end up #arming humanity with digestable knowledge!! thats so fucking cool! how could you possibly like science and not like that people know more #than you and are willing to teach and to share!!#anyway yea love science hate my dad the usual <3 #rambles

actually im kind of thinking abt how all the main players in the AU are probably way more mentally Not Great than it may appear at first

#hooh boy my fingers are mad at me lol i played a lot of guitar again... including finishing practising the song my mom wanted me to learn #i played it for her pretty well... as well as someone can whos only played it over 2 playing sessions #and then i was trying to explain how im usually not playing that kinda music and tried to give an example when i downtuned again #and proceeded to play like a complete noob because i hadnt been warmed up to downtuned chord progressions #i couldnt read my own tab handwriting my phone kept falling i couldnt figure out shit #soon as she left the room i figured out what i was reading wrong and played my stuff fine again lol #at least i played the song she wanted me to learn just fine but she complained that i had to have the real song in the background #(bc i couldnt make sense of the pacing between segments on her song. i needed the rest of the music going too)#but yeah. so i started playing downtuned stuff for myself and had a BLAST #i learned so many riffs and then tackled halfstep tuning and learned more soad #fun stuff but my fiNGERS. MY BACK. OW. i gotta just wrestle my jacket chair to play on next time instead of my exercise ball #but that still wouldnt solve the problem of 'my phone doesnt balance on my leg while im playing'#anyway holy shit man soad plays fast that took me forever to warm up to it and i still cant do it at that pace (obv)#but i also learned a cool part to a diff rammstein song too (much easier)#and AND. "kiss him." the photographer, elise, says as you stare at your friend, eyes quite literally bulging out, "come on y/n..."

"you act like i kiss random people for fun." you say as you take a proper sip from your water.

"but hes not a random person?" she fires back as you roll your eyes.

"still. hes my boss and looking at the situation in general, thats quite embarrassing to do." you feel your face heat up, "how about we find someone else? i bet i can call someone with really luscious lips." you take out your phone and start scrolling through your contacts.

"no," she lowers your phone as you look at her, "he said he wanted YOU to do it."

"ME???" your jaw drops as elise starts laughing at your reaction, "youre lying."

"no im not!" she puts her pinky up as you intertwine your pinky with hers, "pinky promise."

"why me though?" you asked her curiously.

"i told him about the idea and how the stylist would do the kiss marks but he said he had the perfect someone to do the kiss marks and said your name." she explains as you give her a look, "okay to make it easier for you, hes gonna have duct tape covering his mouth. its for the aesthetics." your look immediately disappears and is replaced with a relieved expression.

"oh, you shouldve told me that earlier." you say as you finally smile, "that sounds a little bit easier to do."

"my bad, kind of forgot about it till i told you the story. woopsies." you laugh at her as she chuckles cheekily, "lets go to the set, its almost time for him to be ready."

you both arrived at the set and you noticed your boss all geared up next to an f1 car.

"i thought the set would be more scandalously themed, but this is so much better than what i anticipated." you let a breath out as elise laughs at you.

"do you think im a pornographer or something? gosh have faith in your friends innocence." she rolls her eyes jokingly and it was your turn to laugh now.

landos head instantly turned to your direction as he heard your laughter. he didnt know if you had agreed to the suggestion, but he hoped that elise didnt bring it up since he was feeling a little embarrassed now for acting impulsively with suggesting you to do the kiss marks instead of the stylist.

with how caught up he was in his thoughts, stressing over his impulsive move, he didnt realize that you guys were in front of him.

"lando? landooo???" you say waving your hands in front of his face.

"oh–yes? hi?" he says as he finally snaps out of it.

"you were zoning out. what were you thinking about this time?" you asked as he smiles.

"nothing in particular, just a little nervous on what to do in this photoshoot." he admits mostly.

"youre gonna do good, boss. dont worry about anything! just do what you usually do, your fans are gonna love it no matter what." you comfort him with a smile as he reciprocates the same expression.

you guys stare into each others eyes for a bit until elise finally interrupted you both.

"ahem! love birds can you guys contain yourselves for a sec–" you slap her shoulder lightly as she laughs at it as landos face turns a bit red, "i was just kidding!! anyways...im just here to tell you that y/n agreed to the idea, so ill be back with some duct tape and red lipstick." she walks off and you were left with lando.

"so...you agreed???" he asks as he feels his face heating up more from the fact that you agreed.

"yeah, at first i thought i was kissing you straight up...which is a very hard task to do considering our positions, but she told me you were gonna have duct tape over your mouth; so its like an indirect kiss. which i can mostly do." you answer his question with a small chuckle as he feels his face heat up more, "are you good, lan? youre looking kinda...red?? ish???"

"yeah, no, im fine. this is fine. im perfectly normal." he says quickly as you eye him out.

you reached for his forehead and noticed it was a little warmer.

"are you sure? you feel a little warm." you say as you start to panic thinking about his schedule for today.

"y/n, i am perfectly fine. its just the suit..." he lies as you look at him with doubtful eyes.

before you could pester him more, elise came back with red lipstick and duct tape just like she said.

"here, put this on your lips and also tape his mouth shut." she says as you grab the items.

"it will probably do us a favor if his mouth is taped shut." you joke as he rolls his eyes at you.

"gosh whats that supposed to mean?" he side eyes you as you laugh.

"it means..." you drag on as he looks at you, waiting for you to answer his question.

"it means wha—" his sentence gets cut off by you taping his mouth, "hmf mhmhf!!" he tries to talk but it comes out muffled.

"what did he say?" elise asks as you both laugh at his attempt.

"he probably said 'you muppet!', to insult me or something." you answer her, mimicking landos voice.

"sounds like him alright. perfect impression!!" she says as you take a small bow.

you put the duct tape down and opened the lipstick so you could put it on, kiss him, and get done with it already.

"you ready, lan?" you ask him as he puts his hands up to rip the tape off his mouth half way.

"no–wait. i need like a drink or something..." he comes up with an excuse as he feels his face get hot again due to the situation he put himself in.

"come on lando..its a quick peck and boom were finished!" you reassure him feeling a little flustered as you realize what youre actually doing, "come here."

he dodges you as you glare at him.

"WAIT. PLEASE GIVE ME A SECOND." he yells out as you roll your eyes getting impatient.

"okay fine." you go back to the spot you were standing in.

you look at him grab a bottle of water to drink and he starts fanning himself.

"are you sure youre good?" you asked as he nods his head quickly.

"dont worry about him, y/n. hes just feeling a little flustered because hes getting an indirect ki—" elise gets cut off by an empty water bottle getting thrown at her, "what the hell LANDO." she throws the water bottle back at him.

you laugh at their little squabble until the water bottle hit you and now theyre the ones laughing at you.

"I ALWAYS CATCH STRAY BULLETS I SWEAR. cant laugh in peace anymore..." you say as they laugh harder, "ANYWAYS, lando come here and let me kiss you." you feel your face heat up as soon as you realized what you really said.

"yeah let her kiss you lando." elise chimes in with a little melody.

"not like that��you know what–gosh whatever come on lando, you have places to be after this." you say finally grabbing his arm as he gets closer to you.

"okay, just do it..." he says as he grabs your arms and puts it around his neck, "WAIT WAIT WAIT AAAAHHHH!!" he yells out as he sees how close you guys are.

"LANDO MAN UP GOSH." you finally grab his face and kissed him on both of his cheeks, his forehead, and his lips. directly. completely forgetting the fact that his mouth was not taped shut.

you both dont notice that you guys were kissing lips directly until you both heard a camera click. you guys pulled back and thats when you noticed his lips completely covered in red.

"OH MY GOOOOSHHHH!!!!" elise squeals out as your eyes widen.

"I AM SO SORRY LANDO. I FORGOT YOU DIDNT HAVE IT ON–" you get cut off by lando.

"no, no. its totally fine, y/n...youre good. simple mistake. im completely normal and youre completely normal." he smiles at you, ready to explode from holding in a scream, as you smile back out of relief.

"also...ELISE DELETE THAT RIGHT NOW." you jump her as shes fighting for her life.

you suddenly feel somebody pull you back, which was lando with a huge grin.

"elise, let me see the photo." he says as you look at him.

elise unlocks her phone and pulls up the photo of you and lando kissing, which was a pretty cute angle and photo. you cursed her photography skills.

"you should totally send me that." he says as your jaw drops, "what? its a cute photo of us." he says not knowing where the confidence suddenly came from.

"before y/n dies from a heart attack, have her kiss you again. WITH the tape on this time." elise says as you felt your eye twitch, jaw still on the floor.

you eventually snapped out of shock and reapplied the lipstick so it was more pigmented and you kissed him again, with the tape over his mouth. you looked up at him and realized that he was smiling. you didnt know why, well you had a hint but you didnt wanna act on it.

lando quickly finished his photoshoot and now it was time to go to another place for an interview. you both entered the car and you were met with silence until he spoke up.

"sooo...do you maybe wanna go out for dinner tonight?" he asks breaking the silence as you look at him.

"arent you hanging out with carlos tonight??" you question him as he cheekily smiles at you.

"not–" he takes out his phone and texts carlos something and looks up to look at you, "anymore."

you laugh at his little act and smiled warmly.

"id love to have dinner with you, lan." you met eye contact as he smiles from ear to ear.

he grabs your hand and intertwines them together, keeping it that way till you both arrived at the interview place.

this one panel in issue #50 and it's, like, not THAT bad alright

fuck it im tired and had a long day this is my treat to myself. im talking about that panel. yes, THAT panel. which one?

THIS ONE. alrighty this is off the cuff and terrible, lets go.

so this panel isnt like, that bad in context when it comes to Sonic. i think specifically "ive made peace with enough enemies to know there is a better way" is a really interesting line here, because it calls back to the amount of times that the "villain" hes fought has just been a person whos hurting, and how hes been able to help those people. it makes sense that eventually hes more keen on trying to figure out someones whole story before deciding if theyve gotta go (which is rare).

but i want to talk about the FRAMING of this panel, and specifically the larger context of this issue in particular. theres a lot of flip-flopping in perspectives. usually, IDW is told through Sonic's perspective (loosely, this kind of thing is up to interpretation a lot), but in issue 50, it switches rapidly between four different groups -- Sonic and Surge, Tails and Kit, Eggman and Starline, and Belle and Metal. within these groups, the perspective its being told from changes a few times, but never as much as Sonic and Surge's do

i actually love these two when they interact as a storyteller myself, and one that has handled scripts too often for my own liking. Sonic and Surge do this thing where they push and pull the pacing of the script to fit their motives -- Surge keeps trying to escalate things, whenever shes in a panel everything starts pushing rapidly and it feels like the panels are tumbling off the page. when Sonic does anything, though, its slow and deliberate. hes having fun fighting, sure, but he can very much tell that Surge is trying to kill him and hes not having any of that. Sonic keeps things slow and focused, Surge tries to push things faster and unfocused. i could get into how this reflects her motivations and stuff but thats not what this is about i already lost track of what i was talking about fuck hang on

ok so. Surge knows shes supposed to be Sonic, to be BETTER than Sonic. its all she knows, really, and thats the problem. shes traumatized and full of rage and Sonic has been put on this high pedestal, not just by her, but by everyone. she cannot stand this.

this panel is how SURGE sees Sonic, specifically the composition. hes shrouded in light and physically above her -- its not even that subtle of a metaphor, they use it all the time in idw.

the entire overpowered saga shows Surge clawing for control of herself, her life, her freedom... this issue sets all that up in the main story. the way Sonic is framed here isnt how he sees himself at all. weve seen him do this exact same thing from his own perspective before, where everyone is on even ground. he doesnt see himself as above anyone, this instance of him being depicted as such isnt alluding to how Sonic feels about himself, its how Surge feels about Sonic.

and, look, its not the most well-done in the world. this issue has a whole host of problems, evident by the constant switching of focus from one group to a next (a problem that i think they did better on in the Phantom Rider saga). i literally forgot about Belle and Metal in this issue bc theres just so much more going on, i wouldve loved for them to slow things down a bit, maybe splitting it into two issues, but hey, what can you do, yk?

as an aside, i think its really weird how people narrow in on this specific panel of Sonic as being "so out of character", which i sorta like, 30% agree with (i think some phrasing could be better), and then ignore the page right after it...

...in which he pretty much says "you dont get freedom if youre gonna be a problem". funnily enough, on twitter i have this flow chart saved whenever i need a quick guide on Sonics morality and stuff, its really not that complicated

none of this is new imo, we see he has the same philosophy in sa1 and satbk. Chaos was blinded by rage and pain after being trapped for thousands of years RIGHT after they were attacked by the echidnas. Merlina was so scared of death (implied to be because she had lost family members and wasnt able to cope with it well) that she became a monster in an attempt to never let anything change ever again. these arent very different stories in my head i guess, just cases of Sonic seeing people who are hurting and doing his best to free them from that.

uhhhh anyways. all this is disorganized i forgot what i was talking about like 5 times while writing this but. people on twitter are ripping into this issue again. like its a b tier issue stop acting like its an f yk Q_Q i will defend anything if people are too mean tbh

thanks for making it this far if you read all this. i love idw a lot and i think that it does have some flaws, theyre all really blown out of proportion.
