I went looking for you specifically because I remembered your Fantastic rants/explanation posts of that lawyer who got fucked bc he used chatgpt, and I just had to sit through a presentation on the (partial) substitution of juridical jobs by AI. I dont really have anything more to add, just that they clearly were Not aware of the way it's already happening and fucking up Badly. Hope you have a good day without too much stupidity!

Thank you! (And I'm sorry about the threat of AI coming for juridical jobs near you.) I do think there could be a role for so-called ai tools as they exist now in the judiciary....but those roles would be highly limited, constrained, and would essentially be productively tools supporting (and reviewed by!) a real person. For example, I use checkbox forms regularly in my practice (pro bono legal services), and they do wonders to help us help more people. A LLM tool that I could program to read through documents and flag specific issues could also be a huge time saver. But none of that would be replacing anything I would do - it peaks at productivity tool. (And it could become a problem if I started to rely on it to catch issues, instead of just using it as an initial review that still required an full, in-depth, human review.)

I actually had an incident recently where chatgpt almost really messed someone up. Without going into specifics, they were in a bad situation, and the only help I could offer was explaining the facts of the situation so they could make the most well-informed choices possible under the circumstances. They (understandably!) were desperately unhappy at that advice, and pulled out chatgpt for a second opinion. Chatgpt proceeded to give them legal information that was technically correct in the abstract, but completely inopposite to their situation. If they had followed that advice, their bad situation would have become even worse and they would have lost the opportunity to make some of the least bad choices open to them. Fortunately, because they did this in front of me, I had a chance to explain why the advice was bad, but it scares me to think of how many other people may be doing the same.

"chatgpt writing is bad because you can tell when it's chatgpt writing because chatgpt writing is bad". in reality the competent kids are using chatgpt well and the incompetent kids are using chatgpt poorly... like with any other tool.

It's not just like other tools. Calculators and computers and other kinds of automation don't require you to steal the hard work of other people who deserve recognition and compensation. I dont know why I have to keep reminding people of this.

It also uses an exorbitant amount of energy and water during an environmental crisis and it's been linked to declining cognitive skills. The competent kids are becoming less competent by using it and they're fucked when we require in-class essays.

Specifically, it can enhance your writing output and confidence but it decreases creativity, originality, critical thinking, reading comprehension, and makes you prone to data bias. Remember, AI privileges the most common answers, which are often out of date and wrong when it comes to scientific and sociological data. This results in reproduction of racism and sexist ideas, because guess whats common on the internet? Racism and sexism!

Heres a source (its a meta-analysis, so it aggregates data from a collection of studies. This means it has better statistical power than any single study, which could have been biased in a number of ways. Meta analysis= more data points, more data points= higher accuracy).

This study also considers positives of AI by the way, as noted it can increase writing efficiency but the downsides and ethical issues don't make that worthwhile in my opinion. We can and should enhance writing and confidence in other ways.

The issue here is that if you rely on AI consistently, certain skills start to atrophy. So what happens when you can't use it?

Im not completely against all AI, there is legitimate possibility for ethical usage when its trained on paid for data sets and used for specific purpose. Ive seen good evidence for use in medical fields, and for enhancing language learning in certain ways. If we can find a way to reduce the energy and water consumption then cool.

But when you write essays with chatgpt you're just robbing yourself an opportunity to exercise valuable cognitive muscles and you're also robbing millions of people of the fruit of their own intellectual and creative property. Also like, on a purely aesthetic level it has such boring prose, it makes you sound exactly like everyone else and I actually appreciate a distinctive voice in a piece of writing.

It also often fails to cite ideas that belong to other people, which can get you an academic violation for plagiarism even if your writing isn't identified as AI. And by the way, AI detection software is only going to keep getting better in tandem with AI.

All that said it really doesn't matter to me how good it gets at faking human or how good people get at using it, I'm never going to support it because again, it requires mass scale intellectual theft and (at least currently) it involves an unnecessary energy expenditure. Like it's really not that complicated.

At the end of the day I would much rather know that I did my work. I feel pride in my writing because I know I chose every word, and because integrity matters to me.

(not the same anon) i only saw the anime (not the full thing cause i hated it), ill try to keep the points neutral/factual & not let my opinion/bias shine through too much. heres some of the stuff that happens (spoilers obviously): 1. main character, adult man, works as a doctor. one of his patients is 16 year old idol Ai. she is pregnant. mc is obsessed with her throughout the show. when asked by a colleague if he'd hook up with her if given a chance he says yes. 2. a patient of his (i dont know her age, early/mid teens) is in love with him. she dies. 3. the doctor mc is killed. he is 'reincarnated' as Ai's child, while keeping his past memories, along with the teen girl patient i mentioned in (2.), now named ruby. mc is now named aqua. they are twins now. they don't know each others former identities 4. Ai is killed, which further fuels aquas obsession with her (it seems to be romantic since i believe he mentions being in love with her, her being his 'ideal woman' etc) 5. several teenage girls are also in love with him (while his 'reincarnation' is their age, he has the full scope of his past memories, making him at least 30yo in lived experience), while he doesn't seem to reciprocate their feelings (up to the point i watched the show at least), it's not treated as something he's against due to them being teenagers, moreso that he's too preoccupied with searching for Ai's killer. that's about it, im sure theres more in the manga & bits i havent seen, i personally really dislike the show but i'd understand if you were to keep up the figurines as despite those themes no actual incest happens to my knowledge (correct me if wrong or forgot stuff!), some of the designs are pretty i guess

i do find it hard to judge media like this without having seen it. i'm a big horror fan so i watch a lot of media that features things you should very much Not do irl but that doesn't mean all horror is inherently problematic. sometimes media is just an exploration of something fucked up without explicitly stating "this is Bad!!! Do Not Do!!!!" because they trust the consumer to realise that on their own.

having said that, oshi no ko doesn't sound like a psychological piece that explores the morals of incest and adult-minor relationships to me (from what i understand without having seen/read it! do please correct me if i'm wrong!). it sounds like it's just kinda very weird without challenging those themes much.

again, it's hard to judge that without having consumed it. i think i'll just leave up the oshi no ko posts i have and not add any more. i might have some in the queue so i'll remove those if i remember to. hope everyone is somewhat okay with that decision!

Hi! You made a really good post about how Gordon should be written as more fucked up/morally questionable more often which I really agree with! Your post mainly focused on the perspective of hlvrai as a real functioning world, but even if you take into account the idea that he's a guy playing a video game he's...still kind of morally weird? Like he never tells ANYONE it's a game of his own volition, it takes Coomer trying to murder him and then spelling out that he knew before the finale for Gordon to admit it to him and the Gnome knew from the start. Providing the ACAB stream now seems to be noncanon, he never tells Bubby, Tommy, Benrey, anyone the truth of his existence. He is lying to them throughout the whole series under the pretense of 'not fucking up the ai' (said in the intro to the first stream) even when they begin to question their environment.

Then in HLAGE, he is clearly shown to care about the Gnome, but not enough to 'save' him. He still wants to complete the video game, he still wants to win, and even if he feels bad about it, he still goes through the motions of ending the challenge. The implication seems to be that he kinda views the Gnome as lesser/less tangible/less important than 'real' people and his affection doesn't really constitute viewing them as equals or worth putting in effort to save. Which seems to be an important trait, since based on the hl2vrai trailer it would seem he didn't come back for the science team like Coomer asked him to.

oh my god!!!!! this!!! this!!!!! he is basically the equivalent of a god to these AI, he controls their ability to think and exist, and he just. god, i dont know how to explain it. it makes me think of monika from ddlc maybe, how she's dependent on the player, and the players want to interact with her. she simply Does Not exist when you are not playing her game. and you, the player (and the equivalent of gordon/the guy playing hlvrai in this metaphor), obviously cannot play the game at all times and keep the dialogue going, but there is. a need to do so depending on your opinions on monika. once an AI becomes aware does it become human and have human needs?? coomer very much so seems to have become at least contextually "human", feeling pain when the game gets turned off, basically being a tamagotchi, etc etc.

but even then does humanity denote whether you deserve to be treated with care??? i have way too many thoughts about all of this.

i feel like gordon/the player probably would not take everything that the science team says seriously. i mean, going back to the ddlc metaphor, after playing the game (if you did), did you ever go back after you finished it? or did you end up getting the proper ending and deleting monika's files? did you do all the things you were supposed to, because yes, obviously it is just a game. monika is not actually a sentient AI and cannot feel. she is just code written that way. and maybe gordon thinks that that's as far as the science team's consciousness goes. it's just a game, they cannot ACTUALLY feel pain, they're just coded to act sentient, etc etc. gordon (probably) does not actually realize the level of sentience and feeling the science team has. maybe he does put them into some nice little game after hlvrai, but then again. He'd probably just never open the game again.

the gnome is probably a prime example of the way a human would react if they were left inside of a game, aware but not existing, and left alone for years. the science team was really fucking nice to gordon despite their awareness.

this post is about the fictional player/gordon. this is not about wayne. obvious point to make but i feel like somebody may get confused.

the mentions of ddlc are very affected by the fact that i played that game when i was WAY too young and felt so fucking bad about leaving monika alone, which lead to me playing the game almost daily for months and never deleting her file (partially due to me not actually knowing how to delete files but. the other reason is more important now.) i have autism and it makes me care VERY much about inanimate/nonhuman objects. i feel bad for the science team, okay.

basically, gordon is morally grey because Oh My God he's an awful person to these AI, but also wouldn't you do the same thing? wouldn't you just close the game thinking "oh yeah that's just how the characters are coded. lol they'll be fiiiine" and not have any second thoughts? and is gordon a bad person for doing that same thing with a modded half-life? yes and no.

hlvrai is the AI forgiving gordon for leaving them alone, hlage is the AI hating gordon for leaving them alone. and i think thats why the gnome has more presence in (the players) reality? like, the gnome wants gordon to know and feel exactly what he felt. whereas the science team, obviously excluding the coomer and benry boss fights, never really thought to HATE hate gordon. the science team is monika from ddlc and the gnome is AM from i have no mouth but i must scream. (this point also connects to an idea i have about haunted houses/homes. a haunted house is a house that hates you, a home is a house that loves you. barely connect but. it's a cool idea to add i guess??)

bleh. i cannot put all of these thoughts in order, and it's really hard to entirely explain what i mean. i hope this suffices??? thank you so much for the ask though. i really appreciate being able to talk about my interests with others lol. in conclusion, i really want to make character designs for the science team after they have been left to rot for a while in half-life. maybe they would grow mold or something.

i havent really spoken on this here but my personal opinion on ai stuff is that its far more nuanced than many here seem to care to acknowledge. truthfully, i dont think its as clear cut as "if u use ai ever u are a bad person" or "there are no faults or responsibilities in using ai to generate things".

personally, i dont feel like people using ai to generate things privately are the ones u should be getting mad at, because theyre not the ones in charge of whats actually wrong with a lot of ai. why are u harassing people for generating a random cat image? do u really think theyre the reason any of this is an issue? do u think doing that will fix the problem?

i have plenty of issues with how ai is evolving and what its being used for. i also think that ai has merits because there are real world applications where it makes things easier, like that ai that can detect cancer cells. however, i really dont think hounding people for using ai is going to fix anything and it tells me u approach many topics with a very surface level understanding of it because u care more about making urself look good than u do about actually learning about the issue. its really important that u take the time to genuinely understand the issue at hand before taking knee-jerk actions that help no one

hello doctor who fandom. Im here to throw out my opinions in a vibey way, just to get it over with. I may literally never talk about doctor who on this acc ever again, but i figure i may as well lay out all my nuwho opinions right now for anyone who wants to vibe or to know who will hate my opinions so i can get a nord vpn sponsorship and hide my ip address.

so heres where im at.

9: my all time favourite, wrote well- if not a bit cheesy- and acted very well. Do i think anyone actually skips nine? Not really. Do i feel like defending him on my life from the evil tenners? Nope. I think hes the best, but its not like hes under-rated, people just like to make up conflicts for the fun of it. Its the internet, its what we do. Favourite episode is empty child or boom town.

10: hes fine! I liked him well enough. Good actor, great establishing episode, but i dont feel too strongly about him. Hes pretty neat but i think there wasnt a lot of creativity? Like fun monsters, but we didnt get a lot of the real timey wimey shit we get to see later that i think 10 could have acted very well. Favourite ep is 42. Sorry weeping angels, your like 3 or 4th tho!!!

11. i actually really like him. I think later season stuff was fantastic but there was a dip in my enjoyment around lets kill hitler. Found him to be a lot more dynamic than 10 or really 9 in his personality. Hard to characterise, which is great when your talking about basically a god. Favourite episode isssssssssssss the impossible astronaut? Maybe the lodger actually. I dont like james cordon, but i do like the concept.

12: beautiful wonderful old man. Admittedly, watching his season was a blur, right before i started falling off the who train for a bit, but i do know i fucking love him. Uh, i think i remember liking knock knock. Im due for a rewatch.

13: i promise im coming back to it. I fucking love jodie but the end of 12 is just when i started struggling to watch doctor who (dealt with heart issues and a car accident and just could not divide more attention to a tv show) but im coming in with optimism. I know a lot of people thing her season was shitty, i'll probably think the same, but by god im going to try and love it! Also shes hot /hj

15: oh boy. Im really trying to like it. I think its good tv! I like what its about. But i just dont think it feels like doctor who. I dont really care for talking about ai/media bad (even though the actual theme of that episode is racism that is still part of it, literally dont come for me lol i think the racism part of it is very well wrote) or economy failing/bad in my show about a time alien and their human friend against the world. Not that its bad, but its just not for me. So far ive liked boom or 73 yards the most.

THEYRE BASED ON A REAL FAMILY (and the whole family has "im easily overstimulated" hair cuts, its so relatable)

It's cheesy. full of stuff you know is meant for kids and that corporate made them do. but I really liked it. I know the whole bit is that the family is weird. I don't really like that they used the word weird instead of autistic but i can kinda understand why they had to do it. i found myself relating the characters constantly. The way they run away when things get overwhelming, communicate through their interests, stim when they have big feelings (they all have their own, and most of them have a couple they do) and the way the situation their in affects them. It is not perfect representation but it did a good enough job for me.

But the discussion around what art is valuable/good is quite a reactionary one? Especially as those discussions are old as balls - oh no modern art is worthless, Duchamp did NOT make that fountain!! - and arbitrary too, the usual basis people go off of is what? White hegemony? Who gets gallery space? Who gets sold for the highest price? (To conflate 'good' = worth money is pretty silly when 'good' is subjective) When famously minority groups are the ones excluded from those categories.

Similarly to praise this innate hand made, human connection is a bit silly, and ableist to boot (I'm sure this is done to death but honestly, art is not imbued with a piece of human soul matter just because the artist touched a pencil, and decrying a valuable tool for disabled people on this basis is so harmful.) Moreover, people had the same criticisms of digital art and of photography - both well respected mediums today!

i can see that point of the argument. but those kinds of arguments are also used from ai bros as well. handmade doesn't always mean literally hand made, it just means made by someone. there's countless of artists who make art without having to use hands as well, that are being hurt by ai.

i get that the subject of what art is good/bad can turn into complete nonesense, but i think again that discussing what makes an art piece valuable is important, because that is what gets us jobs/pieces sold.

i think part of why ai is able to weasel it's way in is because people don't want to have any strong opinion with art. "art is subjective!" "i dont want to determine what is art and waht isn't", but the thing is this isn't a urinal or a photobashed piece.. this is something that is made to eliminate the work of artists. i think we should absolutely reject ai art because it's not good for us. like at all..

ai generated art is made in disdain of artists. it's not innovative in the least, and it discourages people from being creative.

whenever i recommend tumblr to people, i always start out saying all the issues it has, like transphobic moderation, pornbots, getting nuked over dissent, how easy it is to accidentally delete your blog, anon harassment, ai scraping, etc...

but hearing people not just talk about but actually SHOW how bad twitter has gotten really puts things into perspective. ive gotten like, what, maybe 2 or 3 random transphobes on my posts? and i can just block them and never see them again. i usually dont see shitty right wingers unless theyre in the replies of some super popular political post, and even then i can just block them and never see them again. i almost never see rage-bait, the closest thing is probably some super stupid opinion that a bunch of people reblog a correct opinion on, and in that situation the actual content of the post is the good opinion that just uses the bad one as a jumping-off point. the other closest is probably those "reblog if you love your mom i dont CARE WHAT YOUR BLOG THEME IS you HAVE to reblog this" things, but theyre not that common and fairly easy to ignore

and like... i know we have a shitty techbro ceo. but its not like the posts of said shitty techbro ceo are literally pushed in our faces so that we still see them no matter what we do. and at least i dont think hes posting literal ai election disinformation on his account.

i think the dashboard system is honestly the best way for social media to work. i dont see stupid rage bait and conservative nonsense and other negative uncomfortable posts, because in order for me to see a post, a person im following has to reblog or post it. if a post is stupid conservative ragebait, most of the time my mutuals will not reblog that. so i dont see it. its a perfect built-in vetting process for every post

and apparently like. every issue that we have, they have worse? like our trans women get banned over nothing, but on there you can't even say the word cis because it's a slur while letting transphobes go free? we have pornbots but they have legit nsfw shown to people without them looking for it as part of the algorithm? i'm not an insider, so i can't really know this, but it seems like theres MUCH more preferential (negative or positive) treatment of accounts/banning on twitter? we have anon harassment and random aggressive people but twitters whole platform is based off ragebait? we have to opt out of our posts getting ai scraped, but theres a built-in ai on twitter and people are constantly showing ai disinformation about serious subjects?

yeah. i guess this site has more or less stayed the same or gotten better while twitter has taken an enormous nosedive. ill be sad when its gone. maybe ill invite all of you to a discord groupchat or something

I'm sorry but I wouldn't be investing this much time and energy into something if I didn't are. I would voice my opinions that I believe are right, even in the face of overwhelming opposition and harassment.

But I do believe I'm right. I believe that this cause is worth fighting for. That systems are worth fighting for.

But many in the system community are institutionalized to the oppression so thoroughly that they can't even recognize it for what it is.

They're willing to accept it while I'm not.

And so I appear as a radical for saying "yes, systems are oppressed, we don't deserve to be, and the way the world treats us is wrong."

I believe that there's a future where plurals won't have to hide. Where masking won't be expected to find acceptance. Where individual headmates won't be FORCED to identify by the body's name.

I doubt we'll live to see that world ourselves. I've mostly accepted that. But maybe the next generation will. (Unless the AI apocalypse happens first.)

But I think the only way we'll ever reach that world is if we can look objectively at the one we live in today and realize how much it hurts systems, forcing us to mask, and denying our personhood at every possible opportunity.

And this, to me, is something worth fighting for.

If you think fighting for plural rights makes me a bad person, then so be it.

I'm okay with not everyone agreeing with me. I'm okay with you not agreeing with me. My hope though, is that through this conversation, at least one more person will recognized how society is hurting systems than did yesterday. Okay dead reckoning spoilers ahead ill put a cut just in case also if you like the movie maybe don’t read either 👀😬 but if you do please read the whole thing or at least the last paragraph because that in my opinion is the most important thing i have to say

Before i say anything i know im in the wrong here, i have a really personal issue with the movie that i dont feel comfortable sharing but its one of the names used A LOT in the movie, so that definitely plays a part in my opinion whether i like it or not. That being said, usually i can ignore stuff like that, ive done it with other movies but there was nothing else to grasp my attention so i got stuck on things like that.

Also wanna say this first because i feel like it explains why i hate a lot of the things i do. I could really be reaching here but i think they’re trying to set up hayley as the new face of these movies and dead reckoning part 2 is gonna be the end for tom. She was the main character, Ethan was not. She was a part of 2 stunts out of the 3 big ones in the movie and Toms solo stunt (the cliff jump) was maybe a minute of the movie and correct me if im wrong but thats never happened before, Toms always had a big stunt thats just him that takes up a good, MEMORABLE, chunk of the movie, and that just wasnt in this.

I didn’t like it at all. Up until the airport i loved the movie, i really liked the way it was shot, i liked the mi1 callbacks, i really liked ethan and ilsa and everything was good, i could ignore the AI plot (which i knew i wasnt gonna like going into it i hate AI villains) and just watch the movie but after the airport i started to not like the movie anymore. During the fiat car chase i realized i was gonna really not gonna like the movie. That was one of the three big stunts of the movie and i hated it, it just felt really rushed and there were so many characters who i didnt know and didnt know why they were there, WHICH IS OKAY i love not knowing things thats part of my brand im all about that but it just did not work here, sometimes not knowing anything about character works and other times it doesnt.

I dont remember a lot from the middle chunk of the movie, i wasnt enjoying it but trust me i was trying. Not even benji and luther made the movie enjoyable and to top it all off ilsa died and im getting mad again but that was one of the worst deaths i think ive seen. If shes not actually dead then thank god but also im sorry mcq but awful writing unless something got cut because she was free? She was dead? There was no bounty on her head anymore, that was why she “died” at the start of the movie and correct me if im wrong but she really didnt need to be in Venice with her face showing either. It really feels like she just died so hayley could be in the spotlight with ethan and there were too many characters so they had to get rid of her along with benji and luther who arent dead but may as well be with their 10 minutes of screen time.

But all of this i can look past, i dont like the plot? whatever, thats not why i, personally, watch mission impossible movies, i watch for the stunts, i wanna see tom cruise do some crazy shit but i didnt even get that. Im really mad about the lack of stunts in this movie i feel insane idk if anyone else is complaining about this but i didnt like a single one of them. Im so let down and i hate that im so upset over something like this but i am. Thats the promise thats being made when you go see these movies and in my opinion they didn’t deliver. All the fighting was really good i loved the fight in that tight alleyway with ethan and paris but i hated the car chase, the cliff jump could’ve been better? i dont even know what to say about that one tbh, and the train, ohhhhhh the train, i dont even wanna talk about the train, i was trying so hard to like it i wanted it to redeem the whole movie for me but it just didnt, i feel so bad but it didnt and im so disappointed.

would you say aviatsa with the colourful scribbles is a gay plane? i dont think it is intentionally gay but when i opened their wikipedia page on mobile it did give me "lgbt rights in honduras" as a related article lol

Oh I've never heard of this airline but they have FISH PLANES. Which is another thing I'm sort of collating. So I guess they're going on the to-do list.

The stripes aren't in the right order for this to be a gay plane I think. I maybe don't like it in general it feels like someone was testing a marker to see if it worked while using it as scratch paper and I think the blue lines at the front (perhaps from a ballpoint pen) don't help that. I think this could be good if they made more of the scribbles cover more of the plane but confining it to the back is sort of strange.

tbf the lighting in the above picture is pretty bad. What's interesting to me is that the colors here are in a different order, which means the plane was very slightly asymmetrical laterally. It is the same plane because they only have the one. The other side looks better but still like bad design, D+ design in my own opinion. Shame because big rainbow scribbles could be so good and the tails on their own look pretty nice. As with many colorful planes a large chunk of my problems are that they stopped short of making it as colorful as it needed to be.

I have no clue why you got that recommended because the wikipedia page is like three lines. It might be that really uncanny thing where AI crunches what you've been reading/saying at lightspeed to come up with searches. I really really hate that. As far as I can tell the only controversial thing Aviatsa have done is maybe accept government bribes to fly routes, which, like, they're an airline. That's the thing that airlines do. The entire history of civil aviation is airlines getting exposed for shady deals with governments or manufacturers or both at once. Fork found in kitchen.
