Summary: A day in the life of the Engen-Leóns
You have a big house because you have a big family.
Or...Ingrid has a big house because she has a big family.
Your Mama says Ingrid has a fancy job which means she's very busy and gets lots of money. You think she's lying because Ingrid always has time to hang out with you and your nieces.
You have a lot of nieces.
Cub was Mapi's belly baby but that doesn't make her any less your niece. Then there's the twins, Bebita and Skatt. They were oopsy babies like you. Sunshine is next and then Teeny.
That makes five.
You have five nieces and you love them so much.
You keep a tight grip on Sunshine's hand as you're all led outside for pickup. You're her auntie and Ingrid says she's fragile after having her heart transplant so you make sure you don't lose her in the group of bodies heading outside.
Cub is up further ahead with your sister's twins following after her. Teeny lags behind because she's hanging back with one of Tia Alexia's twins.
But you keep a tight grip on Sunshine's hand because she's vulnerable and you're a good auntie.
Mapi is there waiting at the school gates and she hugs each and every one of you individually. You all get kisses too and her lips flutter around your face before you push her away.
"Really, Nena?" She says," I'm feeling a little offended here."
You giggle. "Silly, Mapi!"
"I'm not silly!"
"You are, Mami!" Cub agrees. She's hanging off of one of Mapi's strong arms and Mapi rolls her eyes.
"Let's agree to disagree," She says," Now, has everyone got everything? Bags? Bottles? Toes and fingers?"
"Uh-huh!"
"Alright, then. Buddy up, please. Hold someone's hand."
Bebita and Skatt crowd together and you keep Sunshine while Cub grabs Teeny, who whines a little while waving goodbye to her friend.
It's a very long walk back to the house so you only walk a little bit before Mapi gets you all into the car together.
You get to sit in the front because you're not one of Mapi's babies. You're her sister-in-law (although Ingrid always says you're not Mapi's sister-in-law yet) and then Cub and Sunshine sit in the way back because they're a pair.
Teeny, Skatt and Bebita sit in the middle because they're still little and Mapi needs to keep an eye on them.
"Is Ingrid home yet?" You ask as Mapi hands out snacks before driving off.
"Sorry, Nena," She says," Not just yet. Soon, though. She's been stuck in meetings today."
"What's for dinner?" Bebita asks.
"Spaghetti."
"I want lots of cheese on mine!" Skatt butts in and suddenly everyone is yelling their own choices and you giggle.
Your family is very big and very loud.
Ingrid says it's chaotic.
You think that means there's a lot of love to go around.
"Can I make Mama a picture?" Teeny pipes up suddenly.
She's been a little sad since leaving her friend behind at school. Teeny is the niece who spends the most time out of the house. She hangs out with Tia Alexia and her twins a lot.
Ingrid says it's because she's good with Pequeñita. They're painting buddies.
Teeny is always drawing and painting and if she's not drawing and painting then she's playing with Mr Pina, her hedgehog.
"Can we make Mama a picture too?" Bebita asks.
"Er...I don't know girls," Mapi says as she drives up the hill to the house," Have we got the supplies?"
"I've got paper in my room," You say.
"I sharpened my pencils last night." Teeny now.
"Mama got me new pens last week," Skatt adds.
"I've got glitter!" Sunshine says.
"And I've got the glue for the glitter!" That's Cub in the way-back.
"Mama bought us all new aprons too!" Bebita tacks on.
Mapi sighs. "Sometimes," She says," I think you lot gang up on me."
"Please, Mami?" Teeny asks," We won't get messy."
That's a lie, or, at least half a lie because Teeny is always messy. The others aren't though. Just Teeny.
It seems Mapi is thinking that too so you jump in.
"I can keep Teeny clean!"
She pretends to think about for a moment, tapping her fingers against the steering wheel. She sighs.
"I guess so. But-"
Her words are drowned out by the cheering of you and your nieces and she struggles to get you all out of the car quick enough when she pulls up to the house.
It's dark by the time Ingrid gets home and she curses herself as soon as she locks the car.
She hadn't meant to stay so late but she'd had meetings with Frido and the rest of her heads of department and then the website went down a few hours before the new sale went up so she'd had to call Caro up from her IT cave to get her to fix it.
It had been meeting on top of meeting on top of meeting getting everything ready for the launch next month that she'd hardly had time to stop and eat, let alone make it to the school with enough time for pick up.
She slips into the house.
"Hi, Bagheera," Ingrid says as the cat meanders towards her, tail flicking against her leg," It's good to see you too."
Mapi's in the living room, aimlessly flicking through channels. "You're home."
"Sorry I'm late. Work-"
"I know. Frido called. It's fine."
"No," Ingrid says," It's not. I said I'd pick up the girls today and-"
"Ingrid," Mapi laughs," Trust me, it's fine. You're practically single-handedly keeping us afloat. I'd hate to think about where we'd be living if you didn't have such an important job."
Ingrid's cheeks flush. "What did I do to deserve you, huh? You're such a smooth talker."
Mapi grins. "It's just one of my charms." She winks. "I'm your sexy arm candy, remember?"
Ingrid laughs. "Yes, you do look very good in a suit, don't you?"
"Want me to model some more for you?"
"I certainly want you to model something for me," Ingrid says," But it's not a suit."
She leans forward to kiss Mapi before freezing, pulling back suddenly.
"Ingrid? What is it?"
"I..."
Her eyes roves around the room.
Something's different.
The floor is spotless. The kitchen is clean. There's the lingering smell of whatever Mapi cooked the girls for dinner and-
The girls.
That's what's different.
Six little girls live in this house and yet there is practically no noise whatsoever. There's no giggling and laughing from Ingrid's twins. There's no running from Cub. There's no rhythmic thumping of a ball being kicked from your room. There are no spills of paint from Teeny's projects and there's no clicking of Sunshine's camera.
It's just...calm.
"Where are the girls?"
"Huh? The girls? Oh...They wanted to surprise you with something they made. I think they took it up to our room."
Ingrid strains her ears but still can't hear anything.
It's embarrassing how quickly she hurries up the stairs.
It's never good when a house of six girls goes silent.
Mapi follows after her and Ingrid wrenches the bedroom door open.
She stops, a smile appearing on her face.
Her girls are asleep on her and Mapi's bed, all cuddled up together under a massive portrait.
It's made up of several pieces of paper taped together and Ingrid knows it's meant to be of her.
"They wanted to draw you a picture," Mapi says," I didn't realise how big it was until they brought it up here."
"It's perfect," Ingrid says," Thank you for helping them."
"I didn't do much. Just taped it all together and-oh!"
It's nice that Ingrid can still make Mapi blush with just a simple kiss to the cheek.
"You're such a good mami, Mapi," Ingrid says," You're so good with them."
Mapi gives her a bashful smile. "It's bedtime. I can take them."
"No," Ingrid says," You've been with them since school ended. I'll take them to bed."
"Are you-"
"Mapi," Ingrid says," Go downstairs and watch some tv with Bagheera. When I come back, maybe you can model what I want you to model."
Mapi's face goes bright red and it's almost like she can't get downstairs quick enough.
Ingrid takes her time putting her girls to bed.
Cub is first, taken into her bedroom and put up high in her cabin bed. Garfield is splayed out on the middle of the carpet. León-León is already asleep too, taking up half the bed but Cub immediately curls around him in her sleep.
Bebita is next and Ingrid has to be careful walking through her room because it's like a minefield and she makes a mental note to make Bebita clean it up in the morning.
Skatt comes after her and Ingrid has to check that all her terrariums are closed so none of her bugs escape in the night.
Teeny follows after and Ingrid spares a glance over at Mr Pina's enclosure to make sure the little hedgehog's food bowl is filled up and his water is fresh.
Sunshine is put to bed after Teeny and Ingrid makes sure to flick on her fairy lights on in case she wakes up in the middle of the night.
You're last and wake as Ingrid lifts you.
"Ingrid," You mumble.
"Yes, Nena," She says," It's me."
"Did you see your picture?" You ask, still groggy as your head lolls on her shoulder.
"I did. You girls did such a good job with it."
"Made sure Teeny stayed clean."
"I could tell. You did such a good job, Nena."
She sets you down in your bed, pulling the covers up all the way to your chin as you yawn.
"Made sure Sunshine didn't get lost at school too."
"You're such a good auntie," She tells you, kiss your forehead," But it's bedtime now."
She goes to leave.
"Ingrid!"
"Hmm?"
"I love you."
Ingrid flicks off your light. "I love you too, Nena."

I’m going to assume that at this point you’ve all seen Critical Role’s new show Candela Obscura and at least skimmed through the Quickstart Guide (you have done all that riiiight??) So I wanted to compile all the things I’ve done that have been shown so far. Its long so read below the line!
I’m going to try to avoid spoilers. So feel free to read without worry. I’m also going to try and avoid breaking any NDA like a good professional. So I will not be doing some deep dive behind the scenes thing. Only visuals that have already been publicly shared are going to be on here
The very first thing I did on this show was the concepts for the main set. Everything is practical. Nothing is green screen or cg or whatever. Some people think it’s just good cg but nope that's all real. You could touch it! (don’t touch it, there are ghosts)
There were multiple iterations on the design, each with their own vibe and statement piece. CR narrowed it down to what you see in the show: a sort of storage hall with an odd clock contraption behind the GM. I think I called this design version the “Abyssal Hall” or something like that (I gave the different versions names to better keep track of which design was being discussed)
The company Flip This Bitch built the physical set. They turned my silly little art into a real thing. So they did all the actual magic of making this set come together in the end! They deserve a lot of the credit for it looking so good in the end.
Also that little piece of art in the bottom left of the preshow is a section from the final concept art of the set.
That contraption behind Matt is based on astrolabes and clocks. This isn’t really meant to be a literal astrolabe or a clock as we would use them in our world. Narratively this isn’t a device that measures either of the things that a traditional astrolabe or clock does. This is a special magickal tool that does a secret third thing.
Also I did concepts for the GM screen. You don't really see it besides in the fancy-shmancy preshow. There were a number of more intricate designs for it but CR went with the simpler option since the only part that would be visible on stream is the top, so that's where I put the most detail.
I should also note that I did not design the logo! It’s pretty prominent on the GM screen but I was supplied an already existing logo for this.
NEXT is the Taliesin enclosure set that you see in the trailer. This is actually meant to be like the lantern room on the top of a lighthouse, minus the big light beacon (You could say Taliesin is the beacon).

Speaking of sketches there are a number of art pieces of mine in the Quickstart guide
A lot of my art is sketches. They’re all meant to be like notes and drawings from members of Candela as they travel and notate their findings. Most of the notes on these sketches are my actually my notes when I was doing world building concepts, but they replaced my handwriting with a font because my handwriting sucks lmao (also likely for ease of future localization).
Also the cover of the Quickstart guide uses line art of a part of that astrolabe clock set piece. This line art was part of the deliverables that was sent over to Flip This Bitch for construction. They’re just using pieces of those set concepts everywhere!
As you can see I’ve done a lot of art for this project. I was part of this project when it was still early in development. It’s changed quite a bit from where we started.
I wasn’t the only one that made all this art happen though. Other artists, writers, and designers got to add their own vision to this. It was very much a collaborative effort that took a long time to happen. It’s very exciting to see everyone’s hard work come to fruition and there is a lot more to come!

My top tips for people who want to improve their art skills are
A. Study anatomy and realism.
Yeah, boring as fuck i know. But let me tell you, after years of art schooling, the things that most impacted and improved my style were the things i learned from drawing from life.
It doesn't have to be crazy htperrealistic drawings, i used to do figure studies once a week, drawing a model/person, no online images, just a plane body in front of me and my sketchbook. That shit did wonders for me.
B. Start cheap
As in, dont splurge on high-quality art supplies you won't know how to use. The supplies dont make an artist. the artist makes the supplies. I started drawing bullshit with a 2B pencil and a school notebook, and even now, i still use ibispaint x on my phone drawing with my finger. The only difference is that now i have premium.
But seriously, dont waste money on supplies you won't know how to properly utilize, this includes high-quality paper, fancy liners and pencils, premium drawing apps, digital pencils, etc. That stuff should come AFTER you get your footing and know you're serious about art
C. Be inspired
I always recommend people look at artists they love, analyze their style, what makes their art appealing, and apply it to ypur own style. Don't copy and paste an artists style, but take bits and pieces and frankenstein it into a personalized style that you love, every time i try to improve the way i draw something i look at artists or designs that inspire me so i can grasp what it is im trying to achieve in my art.
It can be as simple as the types of colours you use to how the body is proportioned or stylized, creativity breeds creativity, so be creative and dont be afraid to be inspired, ESPECIALLY as a beginner
D. Learn your basics
Wasn't originally going to add this, but to improve you NEED to learn the basics, i honestly dont recommend learning these things at the very start, but more towards when youre vomfortable with art and are trying to develop it.
By basics, i mean things like colour theory, point perspective, the elements of art, etc etc. Again, all very boring stuff that im sure everyone has heard of before.
I think trying to learn some of things by trial and error is great but it can only get you so far, you need to know at least a LITTLE about the basics, to be able to fuck around with them and be able to let loose with it.
Just also remember art is meant to be messy. it's meant to be disgusting and offensive, and human. Art is a wonderful thing i genuinely believe everyone should try in some form or another, but don't beat yourself up bevause it didnt turn out the first time, itll take a few lifetimes for it to be "perfect", so until then just enjoy the ride.
I am ALWAYS open to art tips and advice, even critique and red lining, i can even explain some concepts I've learned in school, mever be afraid to ask, sharing knowledge is punk rock.

Taken - Zutara - Part 31

Getting into Gao Ling is the easy part. Finding the Earth Rumble and the giggling girl is oh so very hard.
In the end, they find Earth Rumble 6 by asking (Threatening, really) a pair of annoying boys from the local Earthbending school.
Katara didn't quite see the appeal in watching over grown man children throw rocks at each other, but Sokka seemed into it, and her brother could use the reprieve. Zuko sighed, slouching next to her.
"Not your thing?" She asked.
"I'd rather be watching the Ember Island Players butcher Love Amongst the Dragons."
She snorted. She'd gone with them once, to Ember Island, a month after Lady Ilah passed. Ozai hadn't gone, and Azula had kept vanishing with Mai and Ty Lee, but Ursa had made sure she and Zuko came with her to see the Ember Island Players. She had loved the theater, not quite like her mother and father acting out folktales, but close enough. They had only gone the once, but it had been enough. For a moment, she had felt the comfort of something familiar, and that had been enough.
"You hated them," she said, smiling a bit. "You said they were... What was it? A disappointment to all of acting and fine arts?"
"They were! Are! They have no regard for the real message of the plays they do, no heart or soul, and-" He caught her growing grin, and blushed. Seemingly embarrassed, he slouched more in his seat. "I just don't like how they do things."
"You're passionate about the arts," Katara hummed. "Thats not a bad thing."
"Wait," Aang gasps, drawing her attention. "I think... I think that's her. The girl I saw in the swamp!"
Katara turned, blinking in surprise as she found a little girl in the ring. Her eyes were milky white, and didn't shift to follow sound. She couldn't be much older than ten.
"You're sure?" she asked, frowning.
"I'm positive."
Nodding, Katara focused on this fight. She wasn't all that familiar with earthbending forms, for obvious reasons, but she picked up on a few things. This Blind Bandit girl didn't move until her opponent did. The girl waited, listened, until her opponent moved. It was only then that she strikes, using her opponents movement and attacks against them.
When the girl won, so easily, the announcer called for challengers. Before she could stop him, Aang was up and jumping down into the ring. Sokka boos him, but Katara is a little more focused on this Blind Bandit. Each time Aang is launched into the air, the girl seems confused. It isn't until Aang touches the ground again that she goes for another attack.
"She's really blind," Katara mused, frowning.
"Really?" Zuko leans forward with her, equally intrigued. "How can you tell?"
"She's only reacting to Aang when he's on the ground, or when he talks. I think she's using her bending to sort of see where people are... Remember that meditation exorcise? Where you sit and breath, and feel your element around you? I was able to feel water that Pakku sent at me in the North. I think this Blind Bandit is doing something similar, but on a larger scale."
Zuko watched the fight carefully, as Aang knocked the girl out of the ring. She had been so confident before, but now...
Aang is named champion, and Sokka is all over that belt. Meanwhile, Katara and Zuko talk with Aang.
"You're sure that's here?" Katara asked. "She's the girl from the swamp?"
"I'm sure," Aang said, more certain than Katara had ever heard him. "She was in fancy clothes in my vision though."
"Then we should check the Beifong estate," Zuko said. When Katara looked at him in confusion, he added. "His vision had a flying boar. That's the symbol of the Beifong family. They practically own Goa Ling. They bought most of the snow crab supply when I was doing trade for the tribe. I don't remember them having any children though."
"The flying boar is good enough for me," Aang said. "Let's check it out!"
And, of course, their stealthy peeking isn't stealthy enough to fool someone that can see anything touching the ground. The Blind Bandit, dressed in formal clothes, glowers.
"What are you doing here, Twinkle Toes?!"
"How did you know it was me?"
"She see's through the earth," Katara said, pushing herself up. "With her bending."
Immediately, the girls eyes are on her, voice low and tense. "How did you know that?"
"I can do something similar with my waterbending."
"That still doesn't explain how you found me. Or why you're here."
Katara wasn't sure what possessed Aang to start by talking about the swamp, but she quickly cut in.
"What he means is, he's the Avatar, and we think you're meant to be his Earthbending master."
"I really don't care," the girl said, turning to walk away. "Now leave. Before I call the guards."
"Hey," Sokka cut in, at the worst possible time. "We all need to do our part to end this war, and yours is-"
"Guards!" the girl called, making her voice high and fearful. "Guards!"
Katara smacked her brother as they scrambled to flee back over the wall. As they pressed themselves back against the wall, Katara heard the guards leading the girl away.
"You know your father doesn't want you wandering the grounds without supervision, Toph."
"Oh," Katara breathed, her chest feeling tight. "Oh..."
"What?" Aang asked, but Zuko was staring at her.
She swallowed. "She's a prisoner here. Just like I was, back in the Fire Nation."

Summary: Gojo's soulmate is an assassin sent to kill him

A/N: this is my 4th time posting this and I am so sorry. The first 3 were because of tags, this one is just cos I noticed an inconsistency in the original but tumblr wouldn't let me save my edits😭
The first time Gojo met you, he was sure he was in love.
There you were buying kikufuku, with that soft smile of yours. You captivated him in a way that no other woman had. How could he not fall in love?
And when you turned to look at him gawking at you, you smiled so brightly that Gojo's heart was immediately touched.
"Hello. Sorry, was I in your way?"
"Not at all,"
You smiled so sweetly and held his arm so gently when he offered to walk you home. Fushiguro and the finger would have to wait. He was so infatuated with every action you did that he only narrowly missed the knife you swung at his chest.
"This usually how you greet the men that walk you home?"
"Only for you love,"
Perhaps it was unwise for him to develop feelings for you when you were trying to kill him. Yet the way you were holding your own against his attacks and your raw beauty had him debating which side he was on. Maybe not to that extent, but you were definitely confusing him.
Which reminded him he needed to get back to Fushiguro. He'd definitely be scolded by his student.
"As much as I'd love to continue seeing your beautiful face, I've got somewhere to be. See you!"
"Hey!"
The second time you met Gojo, he almost didn't recognise you. Your disguise was impeccable. Even people who had known you for years couldn't recognise you whenever you put this disguise on. Yet he somehow managed to call out to you in that cheerful voice.
"Hey! Fancy seeing you here!"
You grimaced at his loud voice. Must he draw attention to the both of you in this way? You forced a smile and poured him his glass of wine he had ordered.
"Your red wine sir." You smiled.
"Come on now. No need to be so formal with me. We're so-"
One waiter had tripped and knocked Gojo's elbow, causing his wine to spill over his front.
"I apologise for my incompetence sir! I accept any punishment you see fit!"
"It's quite alright. This jacket is dark, so the stain won't be visible and it was in need of a wash anyway,"
The waiter bowed deeply and continued apologising profusely while you groaned and glared daggers at your coworker. Your last batch of poison had been in that glass of wine. The next shipment of ingredients for your poison wouldn't be until next month. What a drag this mission was.
"Say, why don't we catch up once your shift is over? I'll wait for you,"
A perfect opportunity. You smiled again.
"Of course,"
Hours passed and true to his word, Gojo had remained sitting at his table until it was closing time. Your manager had him wait outside for you while the restaurant was cleaned, providing you with an opportunity to surprise him.
You leapt deftly onto Gojo's back, wrapped your arms around his neck.
"What a nice sur-"
And attempted to choke him. He struggled in your grip.
"How cute! What a beautiful couple! Would you mind if I took a photo of the two of you?"
You immediately stopped choking him. You ground your teeth but smiled nonetheless. Gojo took several deep breaths
"I don't mind, do you honey?"
"No, of course not love,"
"You might want to loosen up, your boyfriend there looked like he was struggling to breathe,"
"That was the point," You muttered.
Gojo chuckled and posed for the photo.
"Great! Thank you!"
With that, the person walked off content with the photo. You began to constrict his air supply again, but he flipped you onto the ground over his shoulder. With a groan, you sat up and rubbed your back.
"Was that necessary?"
"A bit of payback for the second attempt on my life,"
"Alright. Well I'll be off then,"
"Leaving already?"
"Can't have you knowing where I live, otherwise you'd annoy me every day,"
"I would never,"
Gojo watched as you threw something at the ground, then stepped through the mist it created and vanished.
"Always coming but never staying. How cruel. Soulmate. I don't even know your name,"
The third time Gojo met you, he knew he would risk it all for you. Whatever side you were on no longer mattered to him. Had you been on the side of the sorcerers, perhaps things would have been much easier.
"Soulmate! Are you hurt?"
"Oh no, I'm perfectly fine thank you. The curse bit me, which took a chunk out of my leg and it doesn't hurt at all. I'm enjoying the pain so very much you idiot,"
"Alright alright I get it. No need to be so moody soulmate,"
"Stop calling me your soulmate,"
"Why? Don't you know that the red string wrapped around our fingers means we're soulmates?"
"I know what soulmates are stupid,"
Gojo pouted, "Why aren't you calling me love anymore?"
"Because I'm no longer trying to seduce you. I just need to kill you,"
"So blunt. But you don't need to kill me since you've been fired,"
"What are you doing?"
Gojo made no answer and hovered his hand up and down your leg, assessing the damage.
"Hey this isn't funny. I didn't consent to this. Ow!"
You clenched your jaw tightly as a burning sensation erupted from where Gojo placed his hand on your leg.
"There. Wasn't so bad now was it soulmate?"
"I told you to stop calling me that,"
"I can't, unless I know your name,"
"I'm not giving it,"
"Well then sucks to be you, I'm still calling you soulmate because that's what you are,"
You muttered angrily under your breath and exhaled.
"I severely dislike you because I find you insufferable and I don't know how on earth we came to be soulmates, but thank you, for healing me,"
"How did you even get hurt?" He asked softly.
"I haven't been able to kill you. It's harming my reputation and my employer's reputation, so I guess they decided I wasn't worth keeping around anymore if I couldn't kill one man and they sent me on a suicide mission. I exorcised the curse's buddy but it's still out there,"
"Why don't you and I hunt the curse down?"
"Sure, not like I have really much else to lose anyway,"
Needless to say, you got your revenge on the curse and its owner. By the end of it, both had been in tears before you exorcised the curse and turned in its owner.
"Good thinking there. You kept us out of trouble by letting him hit you first,"

Sure thing! I'd love to talk more about Starr 💫 and her silly dads 🧡🖤 (thank you for being so patient I've been so brain exhausted lately)
So I think Starr would really end up liking art once the guys get her back in school. And Ian goes all out—he and Mickey have been doing well with making money (in this au Ian is an EMT again I don't care if it's realistic, and Mickey has the security business with at least two employees because Ian nagged at him until he was gainfully (read: legally) employed, and business is doing good) and even though they're back on the South Side they have their own house and everything—he buys her art supplies and the fancy paper and pencils and she wants to try charcoal? They're getting her charcoal. Watercolors? Fuck yes. Oils, pastels? You know it! He is doing everything. Mickey tells him he's being ridiculous but Ian saw him bring home some of those drawing help books and stick them in Starr's room with her stuff so she "doesn't know" he got it for her (she totally knows, and she thinks they're both ridiculous)
She also uses the whole Gallagher clan as practice for drawing people—Debbie is absolutely thrilled when Starr does a really lovely portrait of Franny and frames it and everything; Tami does the same for Star's picture of Fred, too. It also gets her interested in photography, and Mickey tells Ian not to go crazy but he's the one who buys the super nice camera and takes her out scouting cool places for pictures or landscapes. Sometimes she just likes to take the L to different places around town and either snap some photos or sit down with her sketch pad. Ian gets nervous at first about her going off on her own but Mickey is like stop worrying—they compromise and get her a cell phone on their family plan so she can call them if she has any trouble (really she can still pass at her age for the most part but Ian still frets).
It's summer here so of course you gotta imagine her taking Franny and Fred to the pool—everyone learns pretty quickly that she's very trustworthy (she had younger siblings growing up) and the kids adore her—which makes her anxious with swim wear. But there's a specific swim line that I read about a few years ago, where the father of a trans girl put together swim bottoms specifically for trans girls to wear, and they might find something like that for her and a cute top (I figure they would help find a way to get her on HRT—Ian and Mickey got a whole packet of informational material from Debbie about taking care of trans kids once she knew Starr was staying with them), and she's nervous the first few times she goes out in her new swim wear but she starts getting more confident! Learning to love herself! It's a glow up and we love to see it <3
Honestly there might be some angst up ahead on the horizon (trying to formally adopt her would have its challenges, not to mention if her bio family tries looking for her) but right now it's just goofy family stuff! Fluff and fun!

Weird Questions for Writers Ask: 1, 19, 30, 33 please
1. What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is that just the default setting?
I write in Constantia. I actually made it the default on all the writing software on my computer. I prefer serif fonts, and Constantia has just this bit of character while still being totally readable.
I did use to have a Thing where every story would have its own font and color, and I mostly haven't changed those back, but, uh, yeah, I don't do that anymore.
There was also a period where Palatino Linotype was my default, but I've switched over
19. Tell me a story about your writing journey. When did you start? Why did you start? Were there bumps along the way? Where are you now and where are you going?
This is going to be a long answer, because my writing journey has been long.
The first story I remember writing was when I was 6. I stapled a bunch of loose leaf together and decided when I filled it, I would have reached the end. That's not how anything works, but to a 6 year old, it kind of is.
You may recognize the age of 6 around the same time many kids really start to be able to write sentences. I was a very early reader and loved books deeply since, so it made sense to me at the time I would use my words, once I had them, to write my own.
I've written fiction off and on--almost always on, and more on the older I got, ever since. By the time I was in middle school, authoring because The Thing I wanted to do. I went to college for creative writing. Did my first NaNo at 17. Finished my first (different) novel at 18. Queried agents with a novel for the first time when I was 21, just after I'd graduated.
So, yeah. I've been writing for a long, long time, probably longer than many people following me on this blog (because you don't have to be that much younger than me for that to be true), and been actively pursuing education and growing as a writer for....most of that time.
I like to think it's paid off in my skill.
30. Talk to me about the role dreams play in your writing life. Have you ever used material from your dreams in your writing? Have you ever written in a dream? Did you remember it when you woke up?
I've written a couple dreams down as "This is interesting, could write about it," but with the nature of dreams, they always require a lot of work to turn into anything that could be writable that I don't think I've ever actually written a single one.
33. Do you practice any other art besides writing? Does that art ever tie into your writing, or is it entirely separate?
I've dabbled in lots! Drawing was definitely the one I did most, longest, and best, and the one I do most often these days (although not that often). I have historically drawn a lot of my characters. I made a few very very bad attempts at comics as a child.
And if you count role-playing as an art and a game, maybe that. My dad taught me how to play D&D by the time I was about 5 or so, just old enough to play, but pretending to be other characters with your friends and doing character improv (without even necessarily writing it down) is a very creative act and I think a form of art. It's another way to play with storytelling, in my experience.
I think after that, it's probably...sewing? My mother always made my costumes for Halloween growing up, and once I got old enough, I had to help with costumes. I still do a lot of the work to make my own costumes. I'm not real good, but I always have good design ideas, I think, and I like dressing up and putting pieces together that I've purchased when that's necessary. I have soooo many costume pieces hanging around. And so, so much extra cloth and thread and cording and shiz.
My apartment has the remains and bits and pieces of many arts I've tried over the years. Origami paper. Jewelry-making supplies. Stickers and tissue paper and calligraphy pens and charcoal and fancy pencils and erasers and construction paper and markers and Bristol paper and--
Creation is Good.

Drawn Together, or Would You Kindly Pass Me The Pencil Sharpener?
After a good rest and a lot of fussing by my dearest, I'm almost back to my old self. While I'm happy I'm feeling better, I must admit... doing nothing is hard for me. I don't want to keep my beloved from his work, I also need to go feed Liam. I start to head out, after I try telling my sweetheart what I'm doing. He's engrossed in his notes, I'm sure he didn't hear me. I leave a note, and go.
I get back to my place, only to find a note on my door. It's in Iris's hand, and I laugh.
"Sorry, Sis. I catnapped Liam for a night, we're hanging out with 053 and 999. He'll be back tomorrow, possibly overfed. Figured it's the bare minimum I can do. Also, Cain's covering your reports. Now, for 343's sake, take it easy. Hugs, Iris." Okay, one less worry. I go in, and grab my lazy pajamas. They're nothing fancy, literally an old game tee and matching lounge pants. I also grab my sketch stuff, as per Doctor's orders. I head back, get changed, get my stuff set up, and start drawing. I have an idea of what I'm doing, but anatomical drawing isn't my best style. I think I need reference material, so I find a copy of 'Grey's Anatomy', and flip through for a jumping off point for my final piece. Not sure why I chose a heart, but when I draw I'm rarely my own boss. Ah... perfect. Now, on to it.
I'm so engrossed with my work I'm sure the Chaos Insurgency, Marshall, Carter, & Dark, the GOC, the Church of the Broken God, and the Children of the Scarlet King could all be throwing the kegger of all keggers behind me and I'd never know. Naturally I almost lept off my chair when I felt a familiar hand on my shoulder.
"I'm so sorry, Angeline. I did not mean to startle you."
"It's okay, I tend to get blinders when I draw. Like everything else fades away." I squeeze his hand. "Seems I'm not the only one, you never noticed I ran out for my art supplies. Or me getting into my pajamas."
"That is true. May I see what you're working on?"
"Anatomical sketch of a human heart. Any pointers? I'm not great with this style."
"Nonsense, it's nearly perfect. A bit smaller than the source, but rather good." He taps the page with a slender fingertip. "You have a remarkable eye for detail, it's a very realistic depiction. Except... wait... Angeline, why is my name written across the left ventricle?"
"It's my heart, and I'm giving it to you. I know, it's a special SCP brand of corny, but it feels to me like I should do this."
"Oh my. I'm touched, my dearest. And, inspired. I'll be right back." He returns a moment later, with his own sketchpad. It's a terribly quaint scene, us seated side by side, just being creative, happy, and in love. After we finish our pieces, we exchange.
"For a doctor, your calligraphy is better than mine. And I was forced to take lessons by a very old school teacher. I love it, in fact... I'm framing it for my desk."
"I will place yours on my wall, above my desk, so I may look upon it and marvel on my excellent fortune to have you in my life."
"Hey, I thought I was the lucky one. No matter. I'm just happy we met."

'aight so, might as well do all of the Seven because I have So Many Thoughts about this.
Option A:
The Seven are Drowned. They exist solely in service to the Lord of the Whorl, Leviathan. Like any who has been claimed by primals, their loyalty to him is unwavering and knows no end. Their continued existence is only to strengthen their god and to summon him unto the world.
They work closely with the Sahagin and the Reavers - plundering supplies as they can, but naturally prioritizing capturing people to sacrifice to him and crystals with which to summon him.
Option B:
The Seven are just another pirate crew in Limsa Lominsa. On the surface, things seem perfectly legal - they have their privateering license and will gladly assure you that the wares they're trying to sell you was, in fact, stolen from a Garlean ship, thank you very much.
But any pirate crew knows how to manage their reputation, doesn't it? Keep a low profile. Stick to the code when you can so you don't draw the attention of the Rogue's Guild. You can get away with almost anything in a nation like this, can't you?
The Crew:
Captain Josep Frascona Race: Midlander Hyur Nationality: Lominsan Classes: Marauder>Warrior, Rogue>Ninja
Marauder and Rogue are both classes that start in Limsa Lominsa - both with a long history connected to piracy, making them easy choices.
Marauders have long had places on ships, their greataxes useful for both combat and felling the masts of other ships. And, as he is the Sin of Wrath... the Job upgrade into Warrior makes sense. He can have a bit of berserker rage, as a treat.
The Rogues are a covert group who serves to enforce the Pirate Code and police the city-state under cover of darkness. So Josep's canon shadowy stealth skills from his fog form can be translated into him having learned from them. I see the Ninja upgrade as something he picks up during a trip to the Far East - noticing similarities in the fighting styles and adapting it into his own.
Abena Frascona
Race: Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te Nationality: Ul'dahn Classes: Musketeer (non-playable), Machinist, Alchemist
Musketeer was a planned musket-wielding class that never got added (but there's still references to it in game so it exists it just can't be you).
Machinist, added in the Heavensward expansion, however, is a gun wielding Job... and the poor guildmaster will hand out guns like candy trying to convince people they're viable weapons.
Alchemist is a crafting class... that I really don't think I have to explain, let Abena make fucked up little potions to her heart's content.
Rashid al-Qadar
Race: Hellsguard Roegadyn (listen. him big i don't make the rules) Nationality: Thavnairian Classes: Gladiator>Paladin, Arcanist>Summoner
Paladin is your classic sword/shield class. And I know this is absolutely a case of me projecting here but I feel like that suits him somehow.
I choose Arcanist because, well. His ability to summon simulacra in canon I feel translates fairly well to the summoning of carbuncles and egis.
Wang Ruixiong
Race: Raen Au Ra (he's a lizard now sorry i just like the scaley guys) Nationality: Doman Classes: Pugilist>Monk, Lancer>Dragoon
"Adept at martial arts" his bio says. Say no more! I give him the power of punch real good. Open your chakras.
Okay so Lancer is a more strenuous one and I'm putting it on the list because of one glamour item you can get: the Eastern Journey Staff. Become fantasy Sun Wukong.
Guy Duchamp
Race: Woodwight Elezen Nationality: (New) Sharlayan Classes: Thaumaturge/Black Mage, Red Mage, Weaver
GG ez, give the guy with fire powers the class/Job with fire spells. Black Mage is an obvious choice.
Red Mage, as in many Final Fantasy games, is a combination of Black and White Magics... but also they fence. He's got magic. He's got a sword. He'll do a fancy french backflip and you'll like it.
It's hard to give some of these guys crafting/gathering classes but... I dunno, maybe the fashionable man knows how to keep his clothes looking good even after so long at sea.
Phoebus Duchamp
Race: Woodwight Elezen Nationality: (New) Sharlayan Classes: Arcanist>Scholar, Carpenter, Botanist
Okay so, like Rashid, it's a case of "give the guy with summons a summoning class" but Phi goes into Scholar because he's assigned healer of the crew. And tbh I feel like nothing says Sloth quite like summoning a fairy to heal your friends instead of doing it yourself. That MP is better used elsewhere he promises.
Botanist is another easy one. Phi has gardening knowledge? He can grow and harvest plants for Gio and Abi.
Carpenter... I just picked that cause it felt the closest to sculpture to me, I mean wood carving is a thing. Plus having someone who knows how to work with wood on your Pirate crew is useful so like. Bonus points.
Giovanni Vespucci
Race: Midlander Hyur Nationality: Ishgardian Classes: Archer>Bard, Pugilist>Monk, Culinarian
Gio's good with music... so let him use the music. Inspire your allies! Buff your friends! Rain arrows on your opponents!
I've kinda been avoiding duplicate classes where I can but Rui teaching Gio is a sweet enough idea that I'll allow it. He's obviously not as high leveled in it as Rui is though.
Culinarian... listen that's the "cooking" crafting class I literally do not need to justify any further. He would weaponize his frying pan like Julyan Manderville if you commit enough food crimes though.

PEOPLE WHO KNOW HOW TO USE THEM
kuttithevangu: I don’t know how to answer this because I’m a die hard cloth/leather/etc bound notebook person so I use them for everything / (upon further questioning) @sleepnoises i use lined ones for writing, dot grid ones for journaling with my own preferred page layouts drawn in, and blank ones for drawing
friendlyskeletons: Use them to go hog wild, any time I get a notebook from someone I use it with wild abandon. Do a full page of 2 minute sketches, put a flower in one of the pages, use em for to do lists. Go hog wild. / Since it isn't your favorite type of journal don't be precious with it, use it up asap. Its very freeing.
somniens: Guess u gotta start pressing flowers in them
gardenvarietyfae: I use the one I was gifted for a long term journal, just to write things down which I started as a way to process certain complicated emotions when I'm struggling with that, but mine is lined, and you said they're giving you blank ones?
I also have a cheap, lined hardcover bound notebook I use for hope journaling. Every day, I write one good thing that happened to me that day. Doesn't have to be big or grand. Just as a reminder that even on the hardest days, I could find something good that happened. Only really has to be one sentence but I write more if I have it. And that one was started because I realized I was losing hope with the world and needed even small ways to get it back in my life.
But I'm a fancy bound notebook person. I like having and using them, they make me feel fancy.

It's true. Trying to make yourself 'be' creative, is hard and, from experience, doesn't always work out as well as it would otherwise. That said, I do believe in doing something - anything - even if you don't feel like it or you don't know what to do. Thinking about it too hard is always counterproductive. Sometimes, yes, it can surprise you and sometimes you can actually get something from it, but, again, from my own experience, it's usually just frustrating. I find it much easier to not think too hard about something and just sort of let it happen. It is also true that there's no such thing as bad art, but, if you're a practising artist, sometimes what you make doesn't quite click and you end up with something you don't like or you're not happy with. But that's OK. In most cases, it's possible to re-work something or come back to it another time and you can use it for something else. I keep almost all of the 'mistakes'. They're lessons, if you want to think about it that way. You have a record of something that doesn't quite work and then have some idea of how to do it better next time. It's also, at least in my opinion, that you can use it to track your progress as you practice more with the medium or technique. Mistakes will happen. Mistakes are good, even. But forcing anything is never a good idea and doesn't always have a good outcome. Let go and just play with what you have. You don't even need to have any kind of concept behind it. You don't have to have a finished piece right away, either. If you want to experiment more with art, or even get started on your own art journey - something I actively encourage people to do, 'artist' or not - start with a sketchbook, and some basic supplies and do one page, half a page, or a tiny corner of a page, and play. It doesn't have to be the most expensive or 'high quality' stuff. And you don't have to have everything at once. Build your art kit slowly. Pencils are a good place to start, but you could start with anything. Test the limits. Draw with your eyes closed. Draw an object upside down. Use your fingers... Whatever takes your fancy. Play, don't force it. Have fun. Fun is important.

rather than saying any specific ideas came from when i was a kid, i think,... there are tropes that i still love and draw on and can credit to some of the things i read and watched as a kid. one big example is hidden identities - my most trope ever - all has a big basis on some of my earliest Media Memories, like detective conan, danny phantom, ouran high school host club, alex rider, and so on ahsdg

i had a really big mob pscyho fic i wrote 30k on in 2019... don't know if i'll ever circle back to write the rest. there's been countless comic projects that i started and dropped over the years as well...
as for illustrations i have a number of half-started DP illustrations that may or may not ever be finished 🤷♂️

sooooooo many pencils. 20+? in highschool and most of uni i was really picky about using fancy HB, 2H and 4H pencils for all my sketchbook work but at a certain point i started preferring mechanical pencils

i don't know about Everyone, but comics/sequential art, maybe? pacing can be quite difficult but it's a challenge i really enjoy conveying on the page.

ye!! whatever's needed at the time. i'm fond of multiply layers with purple ink for shading.

oh, yep, stock images are actually one of my favorite sources for references outside of pose-specific reference resources like line-of-action, adorkaStock, etc. but stock photos (specifically sites like Pexels) are great for locations, perspective, animals, inanimate objects, or if i don't know exactly what i'm looking for
26. What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended
i'm not sure this has happened to me to that degree? like there's definitely been minor differences in interpretations when it comes to my comics (dialogue doesn't always land or imply what i intended) but i don't think i've ever had something taken wildly differently
27. Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with
i don't normally, but if i do, it's usually standard sketchbook randomness - heads, hands, shapes, squiggles, objects around the room. the cats...

maybe podcasts? i've definitely drawn for podcasts before (gorgug from d20, some TAZ stuff way back in the day...) but i'd say it's rare and that the lack of a visual component separates it from media that inspires me artistically, or at least, does so directly

Sindria's Prophet #13

"The Kou Empire, huh?"
"That is going to make things risky."
With all of the Generals caught up with what happened in Balbadd, they needed to start planning for King Sinbad's trip to the Kou Empire, as well as catching him up with everything that had happened in Sindria while he was gone.
"LadY YamuRAI H AA AA A" A yell came from the hallway accompanied by the sounds of running.
((Sinbad is hidden on the left. There's a hint of him poking out.))
A panting magician gave apologies for disturbing their meeting and ran to the head of Sindria's magicians. "I wish I knew you were here so I didn't search the tower first~" Then he started explaining about some magical proof. Most of his words sounded like gibberish to the rest, but it was clear that he had made some kind of break though.
Yam jumped out of her seat. "How did you finally figure it out?! Who figured it out?!" She whipped her head to her King, "Sorry your majesty," and then looked back to the other magician.
"It was the work of the Prophet!” the magician answered. "We were talking about her illness and she pulled out scrolls that- you just have to read them for yourself!”
Mori had said that she had written other scrolls before she started coping down Fate. This must have been what she was working on.
Both magicians bowed out to go test out this new information. Before they could leave, Sinbad ended the meeting; there was no way he was going to wait to learn what other information Mori had blessed them with. Ja'far followed as did a few of the other Generals.
When they got into the court yard, the doctors that had been sent to take care of Mori were already pushing their supply cart back to their main building. The magician that had stayed behind spotted them and raised two scrolls up triumphantly. "She let me take the scrolls!"

News of the scrolls written by a Prophet spread throughout the Black Libra Tower within an hour. Yamuraiha and the doctors explained their significance to King Sinbad.
If even a fraction of the theories in the scrolls proved true it would completely changed their understanding of how illnesses work. If Mori wasn't sick she would undoubtedly be swarmed with questions and demands for proof. According to the magicians, nothing in the scrolls went against any known information. Instead, they gave explanations to why certain things that had been attempted in the past had failed. What she wrote about 'cells' was what really caught the eyes of the white magicians and doctors. As an example, according to Mori's writing there were blood types and most couldn't mix; that would explain why most past attempts at blood transfusions had failed.
The 2nd scroll showed a break down of even smaller particles, and how the structures of different particles made up everything. This was going to bring alchemic magic to a whole new era. Sure, such things would most likely be limited to high magicians, group efforts, and the Magi, but it looked possible now. A lot of common magic of the current day took extreme amounts of magoi in the past because they hadn't found the right formula yet. Mori's writing -if true- could easily be used as a guide to finding the right order of commands for many spells.
And even more than that, Mori had said that she had even more information to share; she had just ran out of scrolls and ink.
Mori's presence in Sindria, and everything that went with it were Fate and the Rukh's guidance. King Sinbad could see it -the future he wanted.

In Sindria's Palace there is a Great Bell. It is rung during celebrations, and to signify the King returning home like it did earlier that day, but it's main use was to ring every 2 hours to tell everyone the time since clocks weren't invented yet. So even though I was a sick person trying to rest during the day, I was woken up by the Great Bell every 2 hours... which of course is also situated right on top of the guest tower.
For obvious reasons, I was awake again.
I wish I knew how the others responded to the scrolls. I really wanted to know Yam's opinion most. Those scrolls basically gave away the secret to Yunan's signature alchemy magic.
I still had the first scroll I had worked on -the one on the science behind blimps-, and the last science scroll I had started. That one was on DNA, and reproductive systems. It was the last one I started in Balbadd. I hadn't started working on it until sunrise on my 2nd sleepless night and it showed; there were missing words everywhere, many incomplete sentences, and I couldn't stay in topic.
These mistakes were too great to fix with an ink knife. Editing was going be super annoying and time consuming since I couldn't work digitally. I'd have to physically cut up the first draft to put everything in the right order before making the next one.
Wait- Did this world have scissors???
Back home the first evolution of shears that could be labeled as scissors was in Roman barber shops in the last hundred years or so before Rome fell. China would spontaneous also create something akin to scissors not long after. Reim and the Kou Empire seemed to line up with Rome and ancient China for the most part, so I tend to use them to place the time period, but the dress Princess Dunya wears is centuries off and throws all historical accuracy questions out the window. Rome was long gone by the time boning was added to women's undergarments, and that dress had all the signs of boned corsetry.
Fuck it. I'll ask for scissors and if they don't have them I'll just invent them myself. I had been drafting professionally for the past 4 years. That may have been for microelectronics, but it uses all the same skills; I could do this. I needed to get a ruler -or at least a straight edge- and a drafting compass which they probably have based on the look of maps in the series, and pencils, or at least colored inks if they had them. I probably needed to reinvent the French curve(stencil tool used in art & drafting)...
Since I was struggling to fall back asleep I moved to the table and pulled out my test scroll. It was full of random marks and some of my early drawing attempts that I used to practice with the dip pen -it's also where I wrote down the dreams from the Rukh. I'd write the list of things I needed, rip the section out of the scroll, and pass the list to someone who could get me what I was asking for. I added some living necessities too like sleep wear and a comb.
The maids that came to give me dinner, and next dose of medicine were not pleased that I wasn't in bed -I was an important guest who was sick after all. And I wasn't pleased to have to drink more of that bitter medicine, but we can't have nice things all the time, now can we?
My voices was strained but I managed to communicate enough. I gave them my list, and laundry (the clothes I wore on the boat) before they left. They'd get me the things the next day. I was instructed to sleep until someone brings me breakfast the next day... which is what I was going to do anyway since the sun was practically gone. I might be a bit of a workaholic but I'm not going to let myself pull an accidental all-nighter when I know I'm still sick. I'm far more self aware than that.
And besides, the Great Bell didn't ring at night.

Maids brought my breakfast (& meds) the next morning and let me know that my clothes would be cleaned and dry by the end of the day. I guess they didn't use magic for everything.
They also gave me all of the drafting and inking supplies I asked for except for scissors. In one of the omakes Sinbad was shown cutting his hair with a knife as a part of his normal grooming. I had hoped he was just old fashioned.
For the greater good and the future of my own hair care, I drafted up detailed designs for a few different types of basic scissors. They wouldn't look fancy, but hopefully I had put enough of a detailed explanation on everything for the smith to figure out what I was asking. Steel wasn't developed until the middle ages and some of the counties of this world matched that so I hoped
that God and anime were on my side. I really wanted scissors that would be a good quality.
And if that didn't work I'd just have to get used to using knives and bladed rollers like a regular person.
The Great Bell rung for 10 am. There were at least another 2 hours before someone would show up, to give lunch, that I could ask to take my draft for the scissors to a black Smith.
I should be resting as a sick person. I should be more exhausted and in pain as a sick person. What was making me recover this quickly?
I still didn't feel like laying back down, so I decided to start drafting up the materials and equipment for proving everything I had written in the scrolls I gave the previous day.
Globally, micro-organisms, viruses, and bacteria were not really accept or proved until the late 1800's. Since Magi seems to take place some time around our 100AD-1300, and Yunan hinting at chemical compounds was seen as shocking by Yam, I knew that my bio scrolls were probably causing an uproar in the Black Libra Tower. I refused to use actual people or wait for an outbreak to prove it like how it happened in history -like how John Snow proved it when finding the cause of cholera outbreaks in 1848 and 1854 England. No, I needed to show how to prove these things in a lab, and to do that I was going to need to explain how to keep samples and invent a way to see microorganisms.
First was for a glass petri dish and other containers for samples. I'd need at least 3 -preferably more. I know glass works have been around since BC, and that this world had glass windows in some scenes, but I worried about the quality of the glass contaminating the experiments. I was going to have to boil them beforehand to sterilize them anyway.
Gosh I wish I had access to nonporous, air tight containers, and a temperature controlled environment. The heat and humidity of Sindria could easily mess everything up.
Wait... I suddenly remembered a scene from the Magnostadt arc when they showed how a sample was being stored. They already had good enough glass. I knew there were magic bio experiments but I had no idea how they worked.
With the realization that I was getting ahead myself, I switched to writing about how to use the scientific method to test for germs. It was basically the bread in a bag test to teach young children about germs but with petri dishes. I also wrote about how to analyze samples with a microscope to see micro organisms so I was going to have to figure that out next.
Lunch came as the perfect break.
Just thinking about reinventing this thing made me nervous. I knew magnifying glasses existed in ancient Rome, but they would be nothing like what I was used to. I had to explain how light moves and made multiple diagrams showing how concave and convex lenses affect light as well as the material of the lens. I ended up also showing how to make a telescope even though I knew Yam already had one.
Magicians were the only ones shown with glasses. Maybe now the rest of the world could have them too.
4 o'clock came and so did 3 doctors and a magician. It was less than yesterday, but still more than necessary to treat or analyze one person. I only recognized one of the doctors from the previous day. All of the new faces looked nervous. None of them looked young by any measure, so I really doubted this was their first time treating someone.
They weren't happy to see me at the table and made me return to my bed -their loss.
The doctor from the previous day was the one doing most of the talking. "Your recovery is amazing. You will most likely be better in another 3 days at this rate if not sooner. It's practically a miracle."
I smiled. "It's pretty shocking for me too." As long as I spoke quietly and kept my comments short, I found I could talk again for a bit.
The doctor was silent for a moment before changing the subject. "I know you need rest, but would you be willing to answer a few questions about those scrolls from yesterday?
The 3 other men looked expectant. This was why they were here.
"I don't mind as long as you don't make me talk too much."
Then came the question I was expecting since I had first made the scrolls. "I know you are a Prophet and the information came from your visions but is there any way you can prove what you wrote?"
I pointed to the table with the scroll I had started earlier. "I can't prove it with the current equipment I have, so I've been drafting up the needed equipment and processes for proving it."
They all turned to look at where I was pointing.
I added, "It's not done, but you're welcome to read what I have so far."
I was thanked as they went to the table they had called me away from when they entered.
'He called it 'visions?' Really?' I had to ask Sinbad later what he was telling his people about me so I could keep the story straight.
The magician confirmed for the others what I wrote about light bending. There was magic to do that, but not everyone is a magician. I had just invented a way for non-magicians to bend light.
Just wait until I show them a prism that can split light into colors. Or teach them how light is perceived in the eye. Or even better, show them the double slit experiment that proves that light is a particle not just a wave... Did they know light was a wave yet?
"Lady Prophet."
I was pulled out of my thoughts.
"You said this isn't finished and there is plenty of space in this scroll for more, but would you let us take this back to the tower so we can get started?"
I wanted to say 'no.' I was still coming up with things to add to it, but I also knew that holding things back because I wanted to save paper was a fool's game. Besides, I could always add more to it later.
I nodded and they thanked me before making me promise not to leave my bed. They were grateful for this new scroll but not at the expense of my health -they were doctors after all.
And then they left.
It was probably about 5pm if my internal clock was on schedule, so I had about an hour before the next ring of the Bell.
Even if I wasn't a man of my word, I would have lost the motivation to work with my current project taken from me while I was still in the middle of making it.
So, I did the thing I grew up doing when I was bedridden from illness: I looked out the window. From the bed I could only see the tops of the buildings on the other side of the courtyard. The Tower that was just poking in from the left had to be the Black Libra Tower.
The waves in Sindria were calmer yet stronger than those in Balbadd. It was probably due to Sinbad's influence. He brought stability and security to his people. I could understand why so many chose to follow him or ally with him. But I knew where all this would lead. As he obtains more power and influence he will stop being able to see himself from the pedestal that he and everyone else put him on; his greed will make him blind to the wants and needs of others, and like a middle aged parent that isn't ready for their child to leave the nest he will take out his frustration on the world that was moving on without him. When Sinbad dies at the end of the manga, Drakon realizes that they all put too much on Sinbad's shoulders.
To change Fate, I was going to have to make sure I never put him on that pedestal nor rely on him for much. And I was going to have to convince the 8 Generals to do the same -or at least to start pulling more of the weight.
The 6 o'clock Bell came faster than I expected, as well as my dinner not long after. They brought my clean laundry, a sleeping gown, and some other common clothes and things for my convenience.
I would have preferred something much shorter for the night gown since I hate having a lot of extra fabric around my legs when I already have blankets. I was not going to risk being walked in on by doctors or whoever when sleeping naked, so I would make do for now.
There was no way King Sinbad wasn't going to reward me for those scrolls. If it was some kind of treasure I'd sell it and buy a new wardrobe for myself that actually suited me, and if the reward was a request then I would ask that he pay for everything directly.
The light coming in my windows changed, and I watched my 2nd sunset in Sindria.
When Sinbad found this island 10 years ago, he completely terraformed it. He didn't get rid of all of the vegetation that was here, but he did break down one of the sides to allow for easier access by boat. The side he carved out faced northish towards all of the other known countries, so no boat would have a reason to circle the island. It was a decision that would benefit the merchants and make it easier to defend.
It also meant that my windows faced west, so I could watch the Sun set every day. I couldn't help but see that as a blessing and a curse. Sure not getting the sunrise meant I'd need to put more effort into
waking up in the morning but that wasn't the part I was worried about.
See- The thing is... I have synesthesia (having 2 or more senses overlapping). I see sounds, letters, and numbers as colors and textures. I have it mild enough that I can normally block it out so it's not too distracting (thank God because music is a main stim), but sometimes I'll hear something and get overwhelmed by how it looks.
Each letter and number is a color. So every voice can make every color, but language, pitch, tone, and accent all affect the colors and textures I see from a person's voice like a filter. There have definitely been some people that I struggled to give my full attention to when I first met them because I was entranced by how their voice looked. The more I hear a person's voice the more I'm able to move its visuals to the background so I can focus -desensitizing myself to it.
Luckily, Sinbad's voice is normally not so distracting that I stop paying attention. Since it's like a merger of every voice actor I've heard play him (All the characters I had met so far were like this.) I'm already desensitized. The similarities across all of the VAs meant that his voice looked like a sunset -full of deep purples and magentas, and bright reds, peach, and gold, and with a smooth and flowing texture like painting in acrylic with a wet brush -like a painting of the last moments of a sunset.
His voice was as pretty as he was.
I hadn't actually gotten to see or hear him for a whole day. But I'd get to look at his voice's equivalent every day while living under his protection.
It was frustrating to admit -I barely knew him as a real person- yet I couldn't deny that I missed him. I feel asleep watching the sun set.
((I wasn't going to write about my synesthesia, but this is my fanfic and I thought it might be fun to reference the colors peoples voices make when the characters talk. I'm not going to paint every VA and head cannon, but I will describe them as I go. Ja'far's Japanese and English VAs have voices that look very different so finding the middle ground is proving tricky.
Also, anyone who noticed that the purple I see in Sinbad's voice is the same as the purple I've been using for the illustrations and comics is super smart and cool.))

synopsis: In an attempt to frame your rival school, you, your boyfriend, and his friends, end up coming face to face with some unwanted guests. A little quick thinking and some fast skateboards should hopefully do the trick...that and a stolen car.

“What do you guys want for dinner?”
“You-”
“Hajime…”
“Get a room you two.”
You sighed and crossed your arms. You looked at your boyfriend sitting on the couch with a cheeky smile on his face.
“Let’s get udon. That sounds so good,” suggested Makki.
“I had udon yesterday,” explained Oikawa, “I don’t want that again.”
“That’s not my problem. Y/N, I’ll order,” said Makki. You nodded.
“Udon sounds good to me.”
You moved to sit back down next to Iwaizumi and he instantly wrapped his arm around you. You moved to rest your legs on his lap.
“I thought we said we were going out tonight,” huffed Mattsun. You chuckled.
“Don’t worry we are. We can’t go out on an empty stomach though.”
“Did you get the spray paint Oikawa?” asked Iwa. Oikawa perked up.
“Uh I thought you were getting it…”
The rest of you groaned.
“No you were supposed to get it idiot!” sighed Hajime. You gave Iwa a nudge.
“It’s fine, we’ll just get it before we go,” you insisted.
“Oikawa, your udon privileges have been revoked for this,” said Makki.
“I DIDN’T EVEN WANT UDON-“
“Well you certainly aren’t getting now. The rest of us will split your bowl.”
“HOW IS THAT FAIR-”
“Makki when will it be here?” You asked.
“About twenty minutes.”
“Okay so after the food gets here and we eat, we’ll head over to that supply store and grab the paint. How does that sound?” You explained. The boys nodded. Iwaizumi placed his hand under your chin, having you look at him.
“Sounds perfect babe.”
Iwaizumi placed a subtle kiss onto your lips, keeping a smirk on his face.
“Like I said, get a room.”

All your dinners arrived right on time and you all devoured them. You ended up giving Oikawa his bowl, though you did steal a noodle here and there.
The five of you threw away all your trash before packing up your things. You left the basement and went outside, each of you grabbing your skateboards.
“Ready to go?” You asked. The boys nodded.
“Last one at the store is paying for the paint-” laughed Mattsun before hopping on his board and skating away as fast as possible.
“Shit-”
The rest of you followed, pushing with all your might to not be last. The supply store was only a few minutes away, prompting your little race. You stood in second place behind Mattsun, followed by Iwaizumi, Oikawa, and Makki.
“Sorry babe-” Iwaizumi rode past you, leaving you next to Oikawa.
“Damn it.”
You lowered your stance on your board, hoping to pick up some extra speed that you desperately craved. You were tied with Makki and Oikawa, each of you inching for the lead.
“I won’t hesitate to push you right off your boards,” you laughed. Oikawa smirked.
“Yeah right-”
“No way I’m paying-”
You continued to push on the ground, gaining distance between the boys and catching up to Hajime and Issei. The wind blew in your face, awakening all your senses. You could see the store approaching, giving you an adrenaline rush.
You caught up to Mattsun and Iwa.
“Fancy seeing you guys here,” you smirked.
“You haven’t won yet Y/N-” said Mattsun. He was first at the store, followed by Ayou, then Iwaizumi, Makki and Oikawa. He lost by just a second.
“I guess it all worked out, since you were supposed to buy the paint anyway,” you joked as you caught your breath. Oikawa huffed.
“Whatever. Wait here.” Toru kicked up his board, adjusted the beanie on his head and went inside. Iwaizumi moved to stand behind you, slinging his arms around your waist.
“You’re sure we aren’t gonna get caught?” he asked. You sighed.
“Have a little faith in me babe. My plan is full proof.”
“And if we do get caught, we can blame you,” smiled Makki. You hit his arm.
“We aren’t gonna get caught. I’m smarter than that.”
“Got it!” You looked up to see Oikawa holding up the bag of goods.
“Four cans of purple, white, black, and grey spray paint.”
You smirked.
“Perfect.”

The five of you hopped back onto your boards and rode until you reached Aoba Johsai High School. You quietly and carefully made your way to the gym.
“Never thought I would be back here…” sighed Mattsun.
“Hopefully this is the last time we are back here,” you whispered. It had been a few weeks since graduation. Never did you think you’d be back to spray paint your own former high school.
Oikawa pulled out the cans of paint, setting them each on the ground.
“Ladies first,” he smiled. You picked up the purple paint, took the cap off and began to draw a large circle on the gym doors.
“That's an oval,” teased Makki. You groaned.
“You idiots can do it then.”
You filled in the circle with the purple paint before turning it over to Oikawa, Makki, and Mattsun. They began to draw an outline of an eagle and the letters spelling out ‘Shiratorizawa’.
“God what I would do to see the look on their faces when they see this,” said Iwaizumi. You chuckled.
“Told you my plan was full proof.”
“PAINT THE WALL NOT ME DAMN IT-”
“Oikawa shut up-”
“Makki shut up-”
“Now you listen here-”
As the boys continued to whisper-yell at each other, Iwaizumi took your hand and began to lead you around the corner of the gym.
“Iwa-”
“Don’t worry, they can handle being alone for a bit,” he smirked. Iwa had you leaned up against the side of the building, his arm just above your head looking down at you. The way he stared at you made your heart pound.
“You know you’re really cute when you’re determined,” he said.
“I know what I want,” you whispered. Iwaizumi bent his head down, touching his nose against yours. Your breath grew heavier and hotter as it mixed with his.
“I know what I want too.”
Iwaizumi didn’t waste another second to crash his lips against yours. There was something about the way that Iwaizumi kissed you that made your knees go weak. You pulled him closer to you, grabbing the collar of his shirt. Iwaizumi’s hands rested comfortably on your hips before slowly moving them onto your ass. The clashing of teeth and tongue was intoxicating. You could barely get enough.
“U-Uh guys…”
You ignored the voice, keeping your focus on your boyfriend's lips.
“GUYS!”
Iwaizumi pulled away from the kiss, annoyed.
“WHAT?”
“W-We’ve got company…”
You and Iwaizumi looked at each other, feeling your hearts drop to the floor. You slowly walked back to the gym doors. Makki, Oikawa, and Mattsun were frozen in their spots. They had the hoods of their sweatshirts on and their beanies lowered. You and Iwaizumi soon heard two pairs of footsteps walking towards you.
“Alright kids, just stay where you are,” said one of the police officers. You looked around to your friends. You bent down and picked up your skateboards.
“Hey now you listen to me, it’s gonna be easier for the both of us if you just do what we say. So drop the skateboards.”
You were shaking in your shoes, trying to figure a way out. You could see the two police cars in the background, parked in the school lot. The lights were still on and it looked like one of the officers had forgotten to shut their door. You soon were struck with an insane idea.
“Put your hands up. You’re trespassing on school property, not to mention the vandalism you just did,” said the second cop. You set your skateboard back down, your friends looking at you as if you were crazy.
“Y/N what the fuck are you doing-“
“HEY NO TALKING!”
You placed your skateboard on the ground, slowly putting your foot on top.
“Police. Car.”
“What-”
“Police car. Now!”
You jumped onto your board, skating past the officers even before they had a clue what you were doing. Oikawa, Iwaizumi, Makki, and Mattsun followed you to the car.
“HEY GET BACK HERE!”
The officers chased after you, but weren’t fast enough. You made it to the car, your whole body shaking and your mind going a mile a minute.
“GET IN!” you shouted.
You hopped into the driver's seat of the car with the open door, keys still in the ignition.
“Idiots,” you mumbled to yourself. Iwaizumi got in the front seat with you as the rest piled in the back.
“FUCKING DRIVE Y/N!” order Oikawa. You removed the parking brake before stepping on the gas. You could hear the yelling of the officers behind you, but they soon faded as you speed away.
“I know you did not just steal a police car!” shouted Iwaizumi.
“Well would you rather be riding in the back of one with cuffs!?” You groaned. Your hands were shaky on the wheel, palms covered in nervous sweat. You didn’t even bother to check the speed you were going, running through every red light you came across.
“We’re fucked,” cried Makki.
“Y/N take us back to the damn school,” ordered Iwa. You looked at him with widened eyes.
“Are you crazy? Hell no!”
“If we turn ourselves we won’t get into as much trouble-”
“Keep driving Y/N, I’m not getting arrested!” butted in Mattsun. You looked in your rear-view mirror, only to see the second police car after you.
“FUCKING HELL-” You stepped on the gas even more, reaching close to 80 miles per hour.
“WE’VE GOTTA LOSE THEM!” shouted Oikawa.
“DON'T YOU THINK I KNOW THAT! SORRY THAT THIS IS MY FIRST CAR CHASE DAMN IT!”
You made a wide turn onto a backroad, flipping the switch of lights on top of the car off. The second car still trailed behind.
“I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD Y/N TURN THIS FUCKING CAR AROUND-”
“SHUT THE FUCK UP!”
Your adrenaline continued to rush as you drove. You searched and scanned your surrounds for any way out, or somewhere to hide.
“Y/N turn there!” Makki pointed to a fork in the road that lead to the woods. You jerked the steering wheel to the left, driving right into the woods entrance. You parked the car and turned off the engine.
“Everyone quiet!” You ordered. You looked behind you, waiting to see the other car. You watched as it drove past, entering the left side of the fork. You all let out a sigh of relief.
“You’re fucking crazy Y/N…” panted Iwaizumi. You chuckled.
“Well obviously.”

The five of you skated your way back to Oikawa’s basement, leaving the car where it was. Once you arrived, you all crashed onto the floor.
“I can’t believe that happened…” huffed Mattsun.
“I can’t believe we didn’t get caught…” you said.
“We did get caught dumbass! We almost died!” remarked Oikawa. You playfully hit his arm.
“We didn’t get caught. Just...interrupted.”
“Iwaizumi your girlfriend is insane,” sighed Makki. Iwaizumi chuckled.
“Hell yeah she is.” Iwaizumi pulled you towards him, having you rest your head on his arm.
“I’m sorry I yelled at you,” he whispered. You smiled.
“It’s okay, I’m sorry I yelled at you too.” You moved your hand to run through his hair.
“How about next time though, we do some legal for our activity of the night?” he suggested. You chuckled.
“Admit it, that was pretty fun.”
“Yup, you’re insane.”
“Wait, did you finish the painting?” You sat up and looked at the three boys. They looked at each other, smiling.
“Don’t worry, we finished it.”

The following morning you all found yourselves seated in Oikawa’s basement. You were curled up on the couch next to Iwaizumi. Your phone buzzed.
“Who is it?” he asked. You raised a brow.
“A call from Kindaichi.” You answered the call, placing him on speaker.
“What’s up first year?”
“DID YOU HEAR? SOMEONE VANDALIZED THE GYM!”
The five at you looked at each other.
“No way… do you know who?”
“Those jerks from Shiratorizawa! They left graffiti and everything! They even stole a police car and it was found this morning. Apparently the police are on their way to Shiratorizawa right now.”
You tried your best not to laugh, keeping your cool on the phone. Iwaizumi kissed your cheek, before high-fiving his friends. You turned back to the phone call.
“That’s crazy…”
