me to me, in a stern voice: we don't need another idea to add to the list. do you fucking hear me???? WE DO NOT NEED ANOTHER!!!!
me to me, in a sad voice: okay.....I do hear you....but....🥺🥺🥺🥺 maybe think about hangster breaking up because of Jake's family though? just. just think about this with me. okay?🥺🥺 please?
me to me just giving up: *sigh*..............what's the idea?
me to me about to add yet another WIP to my new list: awesome! okay, so we see a lot about hangster being ex's and breaking up (and who's fault it is varying on the shifting tides of fandom and how we're feeling about characters from moment to moment)
BUT have we thought about Jake's family being the reason for it??? like. okay. Jake's family has so many expectations on who Jake should married, that every time Jake brings Bradley (and for this, we're saying both are stationed in Corpus Christi during this period) and they can't help making snide comments to Bradley about how he's not enough and how Jake won't actually settle for him and how Jake will eventually find someone better and more worthy of the Seresin name.
and well, seriously there is only so much Bradley can take, what with him already feeling not enough and out of place and like he's not deserving of Jake's love and attention and time anyway.
so it's the nail in the road that explodes the tire and sends Bradley careening into breaking them up and getting as far away as he possible can because yeah, he DOES want Jake to find his happily ever after and get everything he wants and deserves but Bradley cannot be around to witness his future, his heart, finding what he so badly wants for them with someone else.
and then of course the mission happens and it's just an all around mind fuck for Bradley, though it all works out with him and Mav clearing the air and him and Jake somehow finding a tentative friendship once again.
and then weeks later, Javy makes mention Jake is bringing his new boyfriend around to meet them and he wants to make sure Bradley isn't going to cause a scene or be a problem and Bradley can't help haltingly answering that it's okay, that he knew this day would come, that Jake would find someone truly worth him, that his family would love, someone that was truly deserving of Jake's time and love and that he'd get his happily ever after.
only, Bradley starts saying this just as Jake walks in and is floored because how dare Bradley think Jake could ever find his happily ever after when that was Bradley and Bradley walked away from him, from them! but then he latches onto Bradley saying someone deserving of Jake, someone worthy of him, someone his family would accept and love and things start clicking in his head.
and obviously, Jake and Bradley get back together and Jake becomes an unholy terror to his parents and sisters who were part of the problem, who were the match that lit the fire that imploded their relationship.
idk. just. the thought of Jake's family sparking the match and setting the explosion off is tempting. and I can't stop thinking about it when I should really be sleeping right now.

I would love a new rec list if you’re offering! 👀🙏🏿😊
Hello!! I'm so incredibly sorry it took me more than a month instead of the day or ten I joked about in my tags. I wasn't feeling too great and I also lost my motivation to participate in the fandom in any way. So it was hard for me to focus on this task.
But I really want to thank you so much for encouraging me! This turned out to be a good way to appreciate other people participating in the fandom and thank them for the work they shared with us.
In the spirit of things though I'm going to make this the most self-indulgent list I can come up with, so this will probably include a few wips, but I'm going to mention that because I know people don't like wips (can't relate haha I've met cool people that way and I love when authors get chatty in the comments).
It's in no particular order! Just whatever came to mind or what I found in the depths of my bookmarks. Let's get started 💪
Canis Major by Lapin
Point of Opposition by forthelongesttime
lovesick by forthelongesttime
Favourite by RockingRobing
Sexual Intercourse by antivillain
The Stand-in Wedding Planner and the Obstinate Baker by penstrikesmidnight
even in another time by phlegmatic
white wine in the sun by phlegmatic (WIP)
Lord, You Keep Me Crawling by princessofpatras (WIP)
come uncover me series by sweetricebuns
i got the t-top cherry blue (now i'm looking at you) by sweetricebuns
too hot to handle series by sweetricebuns
Wildflowers by Shigure_Natsu
A (Precious) Moment In Time by CoffeeDragon87
Lemongrass & Peony by starsxabove
The Garden by DisraeliGears
we kiss and then by residue (please check out all of the authors works as well👌)
Feasts From Heaven by ahdriking
Brute by ahdriking
From Your Mouth by Holly_Golightly
I hope there's something in there for everyone, always heed the warnings and ratings. I deliberately left out a lot of fanfics that are already popular, because chances are people have already read them. But I had to add some, because they're very dear to me personally like EIAT and Brute. And I featured a few I've read in the past few months to a year or two. Maybe you missed them, maybe you recently joined and filtered for kudos or hits. But definitely give them a chance, there's so many gems out there. It's once again just a really really small list and definitely doesn't include everything I liked or would recommend, but I have to stop somewhere. If there's specific tropes or things you're looking for, let me know, I can try to make themed lists as well, if it's something I read myself. Hopefully in a shorter time frame next time.

I don't dare say people missed the point with Lip, but I also think that yes? I love Lip and this ain't a hate post so don't effing come for me.
Lip being smart as a whip and not enjoying college and dropping out is a type of character development, sure, not one you liked, but that doesn't mean it's any less realistic. Lip was a broken fellow who never understood how to deal with his own issues, and college is just another issue, however, one he hadn't been dealing with throughout all his life, therefore much easier to discard or leave.
I liked that he dropped out, I liked that he wasn't set out to do great things, it sucked for him, sure, but as an audience? Yes. Sometimes realism on TV doesn't sell, but this? Yeah. After all the shit talk and superiority complex, well, you ended at a low bar my guy, almost like you manifested what was out for you even when you tried to convince yourself to do great things.
I loved his speech when he was trying to loophole his way out of the trouble he was in during college. Where he's told that with a mind like his, he could do great things, but he didn't. One of the things I do love tho, is him becoming a father. I think (at least s4 cause idk how much is Lip being an fucker or how much is writers forgetting about Liam) he proved to be a good dad, (by shameless dad standards) something in him desperately trying to break that cycle and it just fits.
He had Liam to show him how a kid is a fragile being and needs care, something that him and his siblings never received, and then professor Youens to give him reality checks because his dad's reality checks are just a normal Tuesday for him. And I loved their storyline because of that (might write meta on him like I always say I will and never do).
College just was not a possibility with his fragile identity and mentality at that point, it was a cannonball waiting to fire. There's just a factor of reality in him not fulfilling what his alter ego wanted him to be, and becoming what he might've thought he'd fuck up the most, a father. I do hope that he goes to college again and does something with it, and if he doesn't, oh well... But I also do hope that his kids mold his edges when he grows older.

[modern] cael | red dress, white dress
After Cael picks up a new hobby relating to your latest work, the two of you discuss weddings and wedding dresses. It ends with a proposal, from you to him.
1.8k, set after qixi [+ some spoilers for his whisper], romantic fluff + super self-indulgent, reader is mc, sequel to this cael fic [but you don't have to read it in order], series: none
IN THE TIME SINCE THE night of the QIxi festival, Cael has discovered an amusing new hobby with which to occupy himself with, when he's with you.
The words that the painter and the spirit speak—particularly towards end of your oneshot—are, evidently, not unrelated to your relationship with him. That much is obvious. And it'd be rather difficult to claim otherwise, given the faces they wear.
You haven't tried to, either.
Between the two of you, there is an acknowledgment, implicit, that they are a reflection of your innermost thoughts and desires. That they are the kind of daydreams that even someone eloquent as him would find difficult to describe, domestic and loving—just tumultuous enough to describe their standing, with the sort of fairytale ending most would wish for. That they are memories, transformed only in setting and time—only this time, they are not newly acquainted or on a time limit.
He thinks of the quaint little moment where the painter promises to make sure that no one will bother his lover. Had he not done the same for you, once, long ago?
He remembers the casual affection the spirit showers upon her love too, the way she finds herself with her head on his lap underneath the wisterias, and if that ever stops feeling familiar, it must be because he's lost his mind.
After all, you've always been an affectionate person. How can he miss it when the evidence remains in the lingering heat left by your touch? Through the way you so easily take his hand, or throw your arms around him—
When your lovesick gaze isn't boring holes into his body, that is.
He's no better in that regard. In some ways, he thinks he might be worse, with the way his loving gaze seems incapable of following anyone but you. But you might turn it into a competition if he brings it up, so Cael—well aware it won't end well for him—keeps his mouth shut.
Still, it's clear that you never expected him to start quoting your dialogue back at you.
It reminds him of one of the first times he'd properly let his mask down. The way the gears turned in your head, your deer-in-headlights expression betraying your panic before he'd clarified his joke. You'd stared at him—half-relieved, half-surprised, sitting in the silence a bit longer before you laughed.
Today, when you stare at him, there is a hint of defiance peeking through from underneath your flustered mien.
You're dressed casually, in a yoga pants and an oversized t-shirt with one of your favorite cartoon characters. Jagged lines run across the drawing, signaling its age. Some parts of the design have entirely vanished, but it remains one of your most faithful companions still.
With your head on his lap and legs thrown over the armrest, you're sprawled across the couch. In your hand is your phone, and before he dropped his line of the day on you, you'd been showing him a red dress that you really liked—one you intended to buy with your next paycheck.
"Thank you." The effect of your haughty tone is greatly lessened by the scarlet hue painting your cheeks. You clear your throat. "Does that mean you'd like to see me in a red dress?"
Cael chuckles, brushing your hair gently. "To me, it seems like you're the one who wants to be seen in a red dress."
"Of course, I do," you reply, your hand reaching out to play with his hair. "But red or white, it's not the dress that matters. As long as there's a certain someone waiting for me at the end."
For a moment, his quick-thinking mind betrays him, offering him nothing but static. He puts down the book in his hand down and carefully adjust the bookmark until it looks neat. His attention had left its crisp pages when you'd sat down beside him, but it remained in his hand still.
Occasionally, he would flip to the next page, then remember that he had absorbed none of the words on the previous page. So, he would go back, a fact that had not escaped your keen gaze—you'd teased him plenty for it, and who was he to stop you?
"I wonder who that certain someone is," he murmurs.
"I think he knows who he is," you answer, holding onto the end of his now braided strands. After a moment of digging around in your pockets, and the sofa as well, you managed to find a hair tie. "Or, he should, by this point."
"Indeed," Cael says, earning himself a wry smile from you. "It would be difficult to miss."
Enamored by your smile, he sifts through his memories, searching for the line that had left every single reader in desperate search of their own painter.
You'd been rather pleased when you went scrolling through the comments, with a smile so big it bordered on evil. So pleased, in fact, that you made sure to show him every such comment. The underlying meaning to your words was clear—you'd already found your painter, after all.
You'd have a big ego if you were dating someone so pretty too, you'd said, when he'd commented offhandedly on it.
He remembers responding with:
Then I'm certain I have the biggest ego out of anyone.
Though, his words ended up only disarming you for a brief second. It wasn't long before you were throwing your arms around him and calling him a liar ". But for the time being, the comment section was forgotten, and it was just you and him—and Beanie, watching you both from his favorite spot underneath the round table in the corner, seemingly miffed at being excluded.
He had snuck in a few extra treats for him.
Then, all was well in their relationship once more.
"'If that day ever comes, no matter what you want—'" Cael smiles helplessly, remembering the way you'd so easily captured his expression on the painter's face. "'I'll do everything in my power to bring you the most elegant wedding in the entire world.' Though you said the dress itself doesn't matter..."
You inhale sharply, seemingly forgetting—for a moment—that you're in the middle of braiding another section of his hair. When you look back at him, having looked away, your eyes are shining with poorly-disguised affection and your voice is painfully soft.
"When," you correct. "When that day comes. That's what I should've written down."
Letting go of his hair, you pull yourself off his lap and draw your knees closer to your chest. You rest your head on his shoulder. And as loose dark hair begins to tickle his cheek, his hand seeks out yours, pinky finger brushing against the back of your hand.
"When that day comes, we'll get married."
His gaze softens when he looks at you, in the midst of murmuring his agreement. Your wedding is something he's thought about often—his own is not. But now, the groom at the altar is no longer a blurry figure, devoid of any recognizable qualities and having only an aura of happiness that befits a day so celebrated.
It is something he'll ponder over until the day comes, all so that you're the happiest bride to ever live, whether on Earth or any other world.
"Good." You squeeze his hand gently. "Consider it a proposal then."
"It's the first time I've ever been proposed to," he comments offhandedly.
"Really?" For some reason, you sound surprised. And though your words sound like they could pass for a joke, the thoughtful note to them makes it clear that they are not. "Alright, I'm taking it back. I'll make sure to come back with a ring next time."
Cael smiles helplessly at you. "I'm not sure if you can take something like that back so easily."
His breath catches in his throat when you lift your head slightly to meet his gaze. Because in that moment, you're smiling at him brightly, It is blinding. While he's distracted, you lean in close and steal a quick kiss from his lips.
"Temporary measure," you respond, squinting at him in faux annoyance. "You're not getting rid of me so easily."
In a voice so soft that he's half certain you'll miss it, he says, sincerely, "I would never dream of it."
Judging by the way your smile widens into a grin, you don't miss it at all.
+extra
"YOU KNOW, YOU MISSED IT BEFORE," you point out unexpectedly, long after they've moved on from the topic of weddings and wedding dresses.
Cael catches onto the context immediately.
It's past dinner time now. The dirty dishes in the sink wait for you and your yellow rubber gloves patiently for their turn. He'd been the one to make dinner, something quick and easy, per your request. Your wish for the day had been "a lazy day together", so your initial intention was to order to takeout.
But halfway through the day, you began to crave his cooking.
Once he'd made sure the ingredients were there, getting them both out of a trip to the supermarket, you had no reason to refuse his offer. So you'd scrapped your plans and followed him into the kitchen to help.
"I'm not sure it would've been very appropriate to point out," he says, from where he sits at the dining table.
He'd expected nothing to come out of it, so he simply never brought it up. There were more important things to worry about at the time—your presence in Godheim, and all that came after that. His heart aches at the memory of your tears, particularly because he'd been the one to cause them.
They'd never properly spoken of it—of the day Peter Pan understood, but could not bring himself to make peace with, the fact that Wendy would have to leave him one day.
"After all, you were a teenager," Cael adds, remembering what he'd told your friend Natalie. "It would be no different than taking advantage of you."
His words, however, go in one ear and go out the other. You're rather specific about what you choose to pick out from his words, your next words discarding all but the subtext.
"So, you did know about my crush on you."
Though your words are undeniably a conclusion, a statement and not a question, they carry with them an expectation of a response. You crane your neck to fix him with an equally expectant stare, as if the weight behind your words isn't enough.
"Yes, I knew about your crush on me," Cael admits wryly. A helpless sigh accompanies his words. "What brought this on?"
You hum strainedly, returning to your dishes. "Nothing."
For the time being, he leaves it at that.
It is only when the two of you happen to encounter Lars while on a date that he discovers the truth, after some coaxing on his part. That you'd been under the impression that your crush on him was a secret kept carefully under wraps. That it'd been Lars who'd guessed otherwise—after some advice on how to handle Cael's new hobby—and subsequently been proven correct, leaving you to sulk on your own.
Unsurprisingly, Cael does not manage to stifle his laughter before you notice.

You approve of Yukio even after he threatened to kill people and tried to kill Rin and Ryuji?
I have answered this question at least three times now, and I know you're just trying to bait me, but woooowwwwww I must have missed something in the manga. When did Yukio try to kill Ryuuji? If you're referring to the moment when Yukio points his gun at Ryuuji, that wasn't trying to kill Ryuuji. A dead Ryuuji would not have been a Ryuuji who could talk, and that was what Yukio wanted. Answers. Ryuuji wasn't threatened with death in that moment, and Ryuuji -- the only injured party in that scene -- has forgiven Yukio and worked with an armed and loaded Yukio since then, so I think they've both moved on. Ryuuji had also kind of helped lead to one of Yukio's sort of adoptive uncles dying a few days earlier, so I think Ryuuji mostly thinks that was earned. (It was a very messed up little while in that section of the manga.)
I feel like every couple of months everyone in aoex needs to remember that none of these characters are real and none of these situations are real and that they are story devices and plot devices and that they are young teenagers in the canon story and teenagers make stupid choices. Especially when they're tired, stressed, and being made feel like they're older/more mature than they are. (IE, when they're given jobs and responsibilities for others life's well beings.)
I could talk about Yukio being a mentally ill character who has been living in some form of fear since he was born. I could talk about him knowing he was Satan's bastard son for his entire life and knowing that his twin was a ticking time bomb of awakening into a possibly massively deadly demon, but likely no one will care and they'll already know that.
I could talk about Yukio being brilliant in pretty much every way but reading emotions, but people will still assume that any time a gun appears on screen that it is loaded with the most lethal of bullets and wielded entirely with the intent to murder. (And yet not make the same assumption about the flames of Satan that have killed vastly more people than we've seen shot on screen.) And they will assume that Yukio intended to kill instead of intended to interrogate or frighten or slow someone down.
Again, no one would really care about that and they would realize it if they read the manga because it talks over and over about the kind of bullets Yukio uses not being particularly harmful to Rin who seems to take Yukio's bullets like they're the kind in a nerf gun.
I could point out that no matter what Yukio does -- even when he unloads every Armumhael bullet in Rin that they have and he makes Rin entirely human for a few minutes -- that Rin is still the more powerful party. That Rin is the dangerous one in the situation. That one thing we should all be getting in this current arc is that Rin is a god next to these exwires. He got disintegration and disembowled and ripped apart and destroyed in a horrifyingly large number of ways and just kept on going like it was a big old nothing. He can go toe to toe with Satan so I feel like mortal Yukio and his little pistols probably can't do a damn thing against Rin even if Yukio wanted to.
I could talk about the fact that literally the most avid Yukio haters will never loathe Yukio as much as himself or the fact that Rin thinking he wasn't the most incredible person on the planet never even occurred to Yukio as a possibility despite the fact that Yukio thinks of himself as not worth being alive and can't see the way he's admired by a lot of people.
I could talk about the fact that the only person we've really seen Lewin comfort is Yukio, which means that even "I have no empathy for others" Lewin Light could tell that the boy was drowning under the weight of his own self-loathing and endless guilt, or that Shura has been watching him crack, or that Toudou, Lucifer, and Satan all picked him to be the one they tried to manipulate and crack and even pulled Renzou in on their drive to do that, and that Mephisto has also been manipulating and toying with him to try and push him to his own ends. Yukio just might be the most manipulated character in the entire damn manga.
But at the end of the day, the manga is there and people are capable of reading and looking at it themselves and I'd rather just read it and write my stories and draw my pictures and just. Be okay with a well written character who has acted pretty damn human in pretty much every scene he's been in. Who has fought with his super human brother and loved his super human brother and hated himself and is trying to make amends and still hates a lot about himself but is loved by his friends and is trying to save his world from his horrible extended family.
And once again, who is a fictional person that has committed fictional crimes and fictional acts of kindness. Drink something warm and soothing and touch some grass since Yukio and co are stuck in the frozen arctic and can't. (And fictional.)

okay, hangster, obviously cause they got me in such a chokehold of ideas and whims and wishes, but I've seen a few people talking about one of the boys, usually Jake, think they're dating, while the other, usually Bradley, thinking they're just hooking up/it's not serious...
BUT what about a Bradley who thinks they're just hooking up because he doesn't think he's actually worth dating? A Bradley Bradshaw who is so riddled with self doubt and insecurity because the people he thought would support him in his life choices didn't and the few times he tried to have a serious, long term relationship, they treated him like shit.
And well, it's easy to put on a cocky veneer, to keep people from looking deep within when he plays piano and puts on a good show. It's easy to pretend other peoples opinions don't matter to him once he gets in his jet and does his job (even if Mav/Ice/Carole's actions and trying to control his life, keeps him so cautionary and repressed in his flying.)
So he just doesn't think he's worth it. Doesn't think he's worth the effort love and care for. Doesn't think he's worth enough to put up with his anger and bad moods and bad habits. Thinks that all he's really worth is sex and making his partner feel good, focusing all on them, the few hours they deem him decent enough to spend time with.
And then TGM happens and he talks with Mav and Ice and while they seem to bury the hatchet between them, they don't really talk about the real issues pulling his papers caused.
Then speed run a few months where the Daggers are a formed, permanent squad and Bradley and Jake start something up and it goes on for weeks, months and it's all good. Jake thinks they're falling in love, really building something strong and long lasting and Bradley feels like he's hanging on by his finger tips because he wants this so badly, almost as badly as he wanted to go to the academy.
Of course something happens and a fight ensues and Jake says something and Bradley can't help responding to it: "Of course I didn't think we were dating, Jake! Why the fuck would I let myself be stupid enough to hope for something I'd never get? That I didn't deserve? Why would I think you'd ever want me? I-I-I'm not worth dating. I'm not worth wanting or loving, so why would I let himself dare to dream, to hope, I could actual have you?"
something, something, Jake punches Mav and Ice out and absolutely smoothers Bradley in love and affection and possessive over him and gets even more cut throat when he even thinks someone is being mean to his Rooster. (the daggers also aide in this endeavor. And once Mav and Ice realizes how deeply they hurt Bradley, they actually talk things out for real and start really working to repair their relationship.)
