me to me, in a stern voice: we don't need another idea to add to the list. do you fucking hear me???? WE DO NOT NEED ANOTHER!!!!

me to me, in a sad voice: okay.....I do hear you....but....🥺🥺🥺🥺 maybe think about hangster breaking up because of Jake's family though? just. just think about this with me. okay?🥺🥺 please?

me to me just giving up: *sigh*..............what's the idea?

me to me about to add yet another WIP to my new list: awesome! okay, so we see a lot about hangster being ex's and breaking up (and who's fault it is varying on the shifting tides of fandom and how we're feeling about characters from moment to moment)

BUT have we thought about Jake's family being the reason for it??? like. okay. Jake's family has so many expectations on who Jake should married, that every time Jake brings Bradley (and for this, we're saying both are stationed in Corpus Christi during this period) and they can't help making snide comments to Bradley about how he's not enough and how Jake won't actually settle for him and how Jake will eventually find someone better and more worthy of the Seresin name.

and well, seriously there is only so much Bradley can take, what with him already feeling not enough and out of place and like he's not deserving of Jake's love and attention and time anyway.

so it's the nail in the road that explodes the tire and sends Bradley careening into breaking them up and getting as far away as he possible can because yeah, he DOES want Jake to find his happily ever after and get everything he wants and deserves but Bradley cannot be around to witness his future, his heart, finding what he so badly wants for them with someone else.

and then of course the mission happens and it's just an all around mind fuck for Bradley, though it all works out with him and Mav clearing the air and him and Jake somehow finding a tentative friendship once again.

and then weeks later, Javy makes mention Jake is bringing his new boyfriend around to meet them and he wants to make sure Bradley isn't going to cause a scene or be a problem and Bradley can't help haltingly answering that it's okay, that he knew this day would come, that Jake would find someone truly worth him, that his family would love, someone that was truly deserving of Jake's time and love and that he'd get his happily ever after.

only, Bradley starts saying this just as Jake walks in and is floored because how dare Bradley think Jake could ever find his happily ever after when that was Bradley and Bradley walked away from him, from them! but then he latches onto Bradley saying someone deserving of Jake, someone worthy of him, someone his family would accept and love and things start clicking in his head.

and obviously, Jake and Bradley get back together and Jake becomes an unholy terror to his parents and sisters who were part of the problem, who were the match that lit the fire that imploded their relationship.

idk. just. the thought of Jake's family sparking the match and setting the explosion off is tempting. and I can't stop thinking about it when I should really be sleeping right now.

Christmas morning with Jake’s family. They are tiredly drinking coffee while watching everyone tear open gifts. One of Jake’s little cousins placed a wrapped box on Bradley’s lap while going “Merry Christmas, Rooster” and he smiled really big while saying “Thank you”. Jake watched and his heart fluttered and flipped and he wanted to kiss him right in front of everyone for being so cute but he restricted himself and let him open up his gift. It was from Jake’s mother and it was a scrapbook. Written on the front of the maroon cover with very neat handwriting was “Jake and Bradley”. He opened it and glued to the pages was pictures of them. They had been dating for only a little over a year now and didn’t have many pictures together but Mrs. Seresin filled up the pages good. Some were pictures of the two of them together while others were candid shots of Bradley. Next to the pictures were pretty stickers and corny (but lovely) quotes. Next to the some of the random pictures of Bradley, printed text messages were glued to the page.

“Ma, why’d you-“ Jake started, but just decided to cover his face in embarrassment.

“It took me and your father a half hour to figure out how to transfer the screenshots onto the computer to print. Some were sent to me by your buddies”

Jake made a mental note to tear Javy, Phoenix, and the others a new one later.

Bradley was hardly paying attention though, flipping through the pages and reading the quotes and the messages. Underneath each picture was the date it was taken and he couldn’t believe he had forgotten so many of these moments. He turned another page and it was blank. He looked up, confused, “Ran out of pictures?”

Jake’s mom nodded, “But I decided to leave it like that. Maybe you can add some on your own. Scrapbooking is very relaxing.”

Bradley smiled, “I believe you. I honestly don’t trust myself doing it on my own, ruining your hard work and all. Maybe I’ll just collect a bunch of stuff to put in it and when we visit, we take some time to work on it together”

“I’d like that very much, honey,” Mrs. Seresin moved from her spot on the couch over to where Jake and Bradley were sitting on the floor and leaned down to pull him into a hug.

“Already have a new one to add!” Jake’s sister shouted, holding up her phone and smirking.

Bradley laughed while Jake sighed, “See what you guys did. Now Roo thinks I have a crush on him or something.”

He simply responded with pushing Jake away from him.

Sooo many good options and all choices I want to know more about…

But the Seresin family ruins sereshaw, aka Jake's family causes the hangster break up please!

So this is my baby, my beloved, my pain in the neck lmao I absolutely adore this idea but it literally fights me at every step XD

It came about a few months ago because I kept seeing posts about what caused the Hangster break up and how if Jake's family was loving, they just accepted Bradley like it was no problems and I asked myself, what if Jake's family was the issue and they were a mix of good and bad? Like Jake grew up in a loving, and.... mostly accepting family (his parents and older sisters aren't entirely down with him being queer but tolerate it at best because they love him) but what they can't entertain Jake settling with someone who is so clearly beneath their means and status.

His parents, his older sisters, they all they actively sabotage the relationship, driving Bradley to break up. And they assume Jake will bounce back from it relatively quickly and are shocked, shocked I tell you, when he doesn't. When Jake actively refuses to give into their demanding suggestions about moving on, and oh you should go out with this friend's son and what not. And of course Jake doesn't take any of that well, because Bradley was his. Was the love of his life and he struggles to move on and fights with himself because he thinks he should but he can't seem to make himself do so.

Anyway. This one is a lot of angst and misunderstanding and will have a ridiculously soft ending because of all the shit I'm planning to put Jake and Bradley through.

“Are you being good for daddy, sweetheart?” Jake can’t help but stare in wonder at seeing his little girl so big. All of five years old and Jake feels like he’s missed everything. “How’re you likin’ school? Makin’ friends?” He grins playfully at Bradley, who lets out a snort of laughter. “Good!” Emmy chippers happily, grinning big, showing off the gap in her teeth. “Daddy said I had to be good and go to school, otherwise the Navy would keep you way longer! So I’m being extra, extra sweet and good, papa!” She flashes Jake her brightest grin, before frowning slightly. “Don’t like school though. Mrs. Amy always ends reading time too soon.”

“You don’t really think he’d be happy, having to actually settle for you, do you, Bradley?” Bradley flinches back startled at suddenly hearing Jake’s sister just behind him. Spinning on his heel, he stares wide eyed at the younger woman. “Wh-what?” He watches as she scoffs, rolling her eyes before moving around him to get at the fridge without having to come close. “Jake. You don’t think he’ll actually settle for you. You’re just a stop of fun for my brother.” Flinching again at the snide tone, Bradley huddles into himself and mutters out a soft ‘excuse me’ before making a beeline back to Jake’s bedroom.

Jake doesn’t give himself much time to talk himself out of it as he pulls up to park in front of Mav’s house. He pauses only for a moment to take a breath, a failed attempt to get himself under control before he cuts his truck off and climbs out. Without thinking about it, he forces himself up to the front door and pounds his fist against it twice. And waits. Prays he can get what he needs without having to fess up to the whole sordid story.

“Called my uncle today,” Bradley speaks up as he maneuvers Emmy up to his shoulder as he starts to burp her. “Ask him to keep me informed about Jake and Javy.” Blinking, both Jane and Joyce looked at each other but kept quiet as they continued eating their chili. June and Jenna make indistinguishable sounds but before either can say anything, they’re hushed by their mother. Maggie makes a humming sound and nods. “Make sure to thank him from us as well, sweetheart,” she smiles. He flushes, glancing around the table before settling his gaze on Emmy, carefully patting her back as he bounces a bit. “He made no promises, but he’d do what he could to keep me informed about their deployments.”

“I want you to come up to Alice with me, for the weekend,” Jake says haltingly as he stares into his locker. Though he can practically feel the look of confusion Javy is giving him. Not that he could blame his best friend, since they’d been getting ready in silence for the last ten minutes. And this was the first thing Jake had actually said to him in the last two hours. “Huh, okay?” Javy asks. “Okay, no. First you tell me what the hell is going on with you man. You’ve been weird and not your normal asshole self, the last three days. And that is like, the first thing you’ve said to me, that isn’t work related in just as long.”

Bradley doesn’t mean to get to the Hard Deck a full two hours before the Daggers had planned to meet before their two month long leave was officially over, but well, he hadn’t really wanted to stay puttering around his house. There were really only so many projects he could pretend to focus on before facing his friends, facing Jake, again. So here he was, seated at the bar nearest the TV, watching some pre game commentary waiting for the others as he shredded napkins.

“Yeah, Jake’s been planning to bring this new guy around,” Javy says. “And I just wanna make sure you aren’t planning on making it weird. Or be an asshole to him because he moved on.” And Bradley would swear he could hear a record scratch as the words slam into him. Swallowing, he can’t help the way his throat feels dry and tight. The way his heart feels like it’s frozen in his chest and somehow also fallen out the bottom of it. He’d swear as he blinks repeatedly at the floor, he can see it shattered into millions of pieces at his feet.

Huffing at himself, Jake forces himself to stop thinking about it. About what could have been, what might have been. Forces himself instead to think about the here and now. About telling his… friends. Fuck, the dagger squad are his friends, aren’t they? When the hell did that happen? When did he let his walls down enough to consider them friends. To let himself be friendly enough to be considered friends in return. He’s not sure how, but he just knows it’s Javy and Tally’s fault.

Flinches back at the fury he can hear in his best friend’s voice.  “The fuck is wrong with you?” Natasha demands the moment Bradley finally answers her calls. “You broke up with him? What the fuck Bradshaw!”

Bradley doesn’t know how much more he can take of Jake’s family’s disapproving stares and comments. He knew he wouldn’t be able to use Tally as a shield much longer, could already see Jake’s older sisters wising up to his tactic and knew they’d start working around it. Didn’t know how much longer he could keep it from Jake, either.  He spends weeks wondering if he should say something. If he’d be believed or if Jake would call him a liar. If he should try to save himself at the expense of Jake’s family. But he knows he can’t. Knows he can’t take that away from Jake. Can’t risk Jake not believing him. That it’s just too big a risk for him to chance it. But he also knows he can’t keep doing this. Putting up with their sneering stares or sharp and hurtful barbs.

Thank you.” Dropping Mav’s, he moves to take Kazansky’s but lets his own fall back to his side when the older man makes no move to take his.

Bradley waits till Nat runs interference with Javy before he attempts to approach Jake. “Hey, hey,” he calls awkwardly before clearing his throat. “Bradshaw,” Jake calls, cold and even as he turns attention back to the dart board.  “I, I wanted to apologize,” he says quietly as takes half a step closer. “About what I said about you leading people to their deaths.” He pauses and takes a breath and pushes on. “I didn’t mean it. Was just being an asshole. I know when things are truly on the line, you’ll do right by your team.”

Bradley dreads making the call to the collector, once again saying he’d be a few days late on his payment but he knows he needs to. That he has too. Lifting his hands up, he rubs at his shoulders as he stares down, gaze hard, at his prepaid.
