the black brothers are stray dogs. they were struck too many times by those who were meant to hold them, to love them, and to chase away the night terrors instead of being the reason for them. they don't like to be touched, fearing every hand that comes near will only cause harm. they don't talk about their feelings, they refuse to roll over and show their underbelly. vulnerability is a weakness and predators always go for the soft spots first. it takes years to gain an ounce of their trust but it can be taken away quicker than a heartbeat. even if they do come to trust someone, maybe even love them, self-preservation will always be their first instinct. corner them and they will bite.

Bad Dog

If I whine like a dog I'll get punished like one. rub my nose in the bedsheets where my feelings stain and bleed. nails scratch at your head, desperate to dig up buried feelings. maybe now you can see them you won't hide. it'll keep me fed and you won't put me outside in the dark, chained up away in the rain like a bad dog. pleading too much, for so much throat and hearts in a strain

i've seen the damage my hands can do, i've watched them take flesh off my face and hands, i've watched them leave bruises. i watched my hands create something beautiful, carefully caressing the face as i sculpt it, i've seen them hold together a shell of a person. my hands are not a weapon yet i seem to always use them as one.
