I think with Amber, she’s treated by the show as a plot point and she’s never developed in the way I wanted her to be. I personally do love Amber, but I think it takes people a long time to warm up to her because her screen time is so limited and then there’s the obvious fridging. I wouldn’t say it’s internalised misogyny if you just don’t like her, I mean you can dislike a female character without being motivated by mysoginy, and I think people who try telling you otherwise are limiting female characters in the process of defending them this way. BUT with Amber especially I found it helpful to consider her position within the plot. Like, she’s presented as a mirror to House, but with House we get to warm up to him over time so we tend to side with him over others. Amber, on the other hand, is given a lot less screen time and thus we have a lot less time to warm to her (writers strikes but also I don’t think she was ever really handled as well as she should’ve been) AND it’s super easy to see her through House’s lense: as a threat. I think I mainly realised this when I was rewatching the show and saw how House would do something far worse than what Amber does, but because it’s House, we know and root for him far more; to the degree of being a viewer of what’s essentially House’s story, it’s easy to take his side while seeing Amber as a “cutthroat bitch.” I don’t like the way characters reduce her to a “female version of House” because I think they’re very different in the way they approach things and the ways that they’re seen to care. Amber’s ambitious which I think is cool to see, but she was robbed of the complexity she could’ve had if they’d approached her character as more than just an obstacle for House.

So yeah, I actually like Amber, but hating her isn’t necessarily born from internalised mysoginy. I do think it sometimes is, but tbh I mostly blame the writing and the brevity of her screentime (no matter the reasons for it). Amber’s a really complex, compelling character and, like I mentioned before, it’s refreshing to see a female character be so ambitious, but that complexity is buried underneath layers of dismissal from other characters in show, and a need from the writers to position Amber as a threat to House. Speaking for myself, I’d never call Amber evil, because I don’t think she is, but there’s no reason to feel bad for, you know, disliking her op. As far as the writing goes you were never actually meant to like her.

I wondered, on rewatching House, if I'd have similar revelations as I had rewatching other shows I mostly saw as a preteen, particularly in terms of women characters. I was much less self-conscious of my internalized misogyny back then and hated lots of female characters with my whole heart, for Reasons, some of which were valid and many of which were not. Upon a (very brief, incomplete) revisit of Breaking Bad, for instance, I realized I should never have hated Skylar. This has happened across a few shows, where I've realized I liked a character more than I did as a kid and perhaps more than the writers intended for me to.

I remember mostly liking Cuddy and Cameron and being straight-up obsessed with Thirteen. I remember hating Amber. I wondered if a rewatch would change my perspective. I think if she hadn't pulled that fake-ghost shit with Thirteen... But she did, and I still hate Amber. I like Wilson less for his involvement with her. She pops up and he kisses her and I just want to puke. Does he know how fucking evil she is? Does he not care? Is she as evil as my angry intestines insist? Am I blinded to some good qualities in Amber by my love of Thirteen? Am I still thirteen years old and that's why I'm writing a fucking blog post on Tumblr about it?? If you are a fan of Amber and you see this in the House tags please lmk why. so she puts on the only clear face mask she has - it’s probably about five years old but that doesn’t matter - and then waits for it to dry. once it’s not at all sticky, she traipses into the kitchen where her brothers are eating breakfast.

“you think normal bodily functions are gross? ugh, men.” debbie tries to act the same way she would if someone was grossed out by periods, and it seems to work.

when debbie starts peeling off the face mask, they both stare at her with horror.

“what do you mean??? that’s not normal!” ian tells her.

“yes, it is and i thought my family was much less mysoginistic than its acting.” she huffs.

Caesar doesn’t genuinely believe in misogyny. I disagree that his charisma score and intelligence be so low because the way he implements control tactics over the entirety of the Legion is actually really smart when you get down to it.

Every member of the Legion who is a soldier is a slave. Slaves—obviously—do not like being slaves. If all of the Legion consisted of both women and men as soldiers on somewhat equal standing with each other, they would start discussing ways to get free. Naturally, of course, I’m sure there are discussions like this within the Legion already, but regardless. The act of making women seem unequal to men is a control tactic. People are desperate for any semblance of control in a powerless situation, therefore if there is a group that is even lower than they are, and they have their own control over them, they won’t want to give it up. A hierarchal system like this is a killer control tactic when utilized against a very large group of people. Women are stuck in place as lower than the lowest man, which means that the men have power over them no matter their own standing.

Competitiveness also comes into play here. With the rigorous competition within the Legion, you’ve got people who are not going to want to give up what power they have and attempt to escape, especially if that power took painstakingly long to get. A centurion who has worked for his position will not want to leave because he has control over every person lower than him. A recruit who has just been assimilated will not want to leave because even though he is new, he’s still got more standing than the highest ranking woman.

I mean honestly no? Randy hates Billy before he knows all of that stuff so I don’t think it would make much of a difference. From what we see in the movie Randy mostly hates Billy because he’s dating Sidney.

Billy barely expresses any aggression towards Randy until the videostore scene, and in that instance Randy has literally just accused him of murder. Like to be fair if I was Billy in that moment and I was innocent I’d be pretty fucking pissed at Randy too, esp if I had just spent the night in jail.

Most of what we see in the interactions between Billy and Randy it’s Randy starting shit tbh, and I’m not saying Billy is blameless, he’s obviously an asshole but from what we see in the movie this isn’t a situation where he’s bullying Randy. He mostly seems to ignore him.

And honestly, one of my pet peeves in this is the way Randy’s misogyny is ignored. He’s honestly got some real incel vibes to me- I know it’s a slasher trope but he’s the mouthpiece for tropes in this movie and he literally says ‘sex equals death’.

He’s also equally insensitive as Billy and Stu after Casey and Steve die. He knows Sid is scared and he still says the “slice and dice” shit and the stuff about the liver in the mailbox. That liver belonged to his now dead female classmate and he’s grinning when he talks about it.

But it’s the stuff he says about Sidney that’s the worst to me: “now that Billy tried to mutilate her do you think Sid would go out with me?” This doesn’t feel like he’s seeing her as her own person with her own agency, he’s not even centering her trauma like he cares about her. 

A good friend would be focused on making sure she’s ok if her boyfriend “just tried to mutilate her”, dating her would not be the priority, but Randy skips over whatever she might be experiencing because he’s more interested in the possibility of getting with her.

The other moment that bothers me most is when he sees Sidney going upstairs with Billy and says “there goes my chance with Sid” as if he only wanted her when she was a virgin, like she’s somehow less desirable if she has sex with Billy.

I think all of this stuff is pretty par-for the course in 1995, like this is Randy being a pretty typical 90s man here. But it’s still misogyny. I still think Randy is an interesting and well written character, but it does feel like his “nice guy” archetype gets taken at face value and there’s not a lot of discussion of the real flaws that he has.

You can still like him btw this is not a callout post, and I think he’s a very entertaining character. I write stuilly, I’m not judging anyone for an attachment to morally questionable characters and I don’t think a character needs to be a good person for you to like them. That said I think it’s also important to recognize the flaws a character does have.

All this is to say that I don’t think Billy is the reason that Billy and Randy don’t get along. If Billy wasn’t a mysoginistic murderer (I’m not going to call him a sociopath as that term usually refers to anti-social personality disorder) but he was still dating Sidney I think Randy would still hate him.

So, lots of people don’t get over the White Stag « criston was there » BUT… do we actually have a moment where we see Criston believe Rhaenyra is the true heir? No.

Yes, he is really devoted to her as her sworn protector, and knows he owes her everything he has, yet when she asks him « will the realm ever accept me as their queen? » he gives a very bague answer, but he clearly doesn’t seem to be thinking « of course my Queen, why wouldn’t they » or « Absolutely ». Even Fabien said in an interview that scene was interesting bc Criston cannot say what he actually thinks … but his expression is not one of someone who is convinced she is the heir with no question. Later, he asks her to run away, in his mind this is fine and a solution, he is not bringing the realm down by taking away their heir to the throne, or anything like that and they can live happy, and he can restore his honor (not a solution but in his mind seems to be) I believe he may thought… the realm has another heir so she can give it up without much consequence and we can go and live our lives with some twisted belief of love and honor.

Years later, when he crowns Aegon he says « true heir to the Iron Throne » and he seems to actually believe this. Yes, now he is devoted to Alicent and is some sort of father figure to Aegon and his siblings (pretty sure he loves them all) but you do see him be more firm in backing up Aegon than what he ever did to backup Rhaenyra. And no, i don’t believe this is just « oh, he hates Nyra so he supports Aegon » bc if he hated Rhaenyra and that was it, he would have not gone along with Alicent’s petition to get Aegon for her so she can spare Rhaenyra, or even would have volunteer to go to Dragonstone and kill her as Otto wanted Westerling to do so… and is really bad character development to simplify his decisions and loyalty by: he ´s heartbroken (but this is a completely other post)

Criston Cole is a knight that believes in the system that they live in, where a first born son come bfore anyone else, so even seeing the White Stag wouldn’t make him become fully convinced Nyra is the one who should be Queen. Criston is about religion, duty and classic chivalry … (some say he is mysoginistic BUT he just lives in that society and to be fair, he actually is the only man with a healthy and respect- balanced relationship with a woman: Alicent. Not saying he’s a feminist but he is just as the rest of the bloody men in this story) So, yes, probably he would known the meaning of the White Stag but also probably saw it as a coincidence…or idk, but I can’t think of a moment in HOTD where we can say « yes, Criston believes and supports Rhaenyra’s claim » bc protecting or even loving her doesn’t mean he stands by her as the true heir. And he never does it in the way he does for Aegon.

So this answer will depend on who you ask. While I will never kink shame anyone and what people get off on is completely upto them as long as its safe sane and concentual.

Sissy blogs and generally any sissy spaces on the internet is A LOT (not all) but a lot will use transgirls photos & posts in their fantasies Which while doesn't sound to bad on the surface, but the issue in my opinion boils down to what a sissy (generally means) is a Man dressing as a women often for humiliation purposes. Now if a sissy/blog posts a transwomen in their content, to me that says that the sissy does not see that trans women as a women..but as a man pretending to be a women so for me thats the Main reason i do not want any interaction from sissy blogs. The other issues is a lot of the sissyblogs will repost stolen content. A lot of people i know find sissy play mysoginistic as well...as in you find it humiliating to present as women? or presenting as a women is a punishment for you. (there are other examples) I will also say i know of a few trans people who started off in the sissy scene and through that realised they are trans, so i will never hate on a sissy person. like anything i wil say its not all sissies and sissyblogs but for me its easier to have a flat DNI I will also ask if any other people want to put their thoughts in on why they dont want sissy blogs or if your a sissyblog and want to put in why you want to access transblogs feel free Just keep it civil :)

like yes, I get that it was good for the plot and an amazing cinematic decision but the way it ended makes it impossible for a season 3 (if they want to keep the plot) but I also feel that the writing was rushed and that there’s a few plot holes like how did Loki manage to do that? and no, not because a queer man is in a relationship with a queer woman, bisexual people are attracted to the opposite gender and that’s obviously completely fine and normal - that’s not what I mean.

what I specifically mean is, unfortunately, transphobia. because the idea that the sylvie and loki “selfcest” is 100% pushing, whether it’s intentional or not, is autogynephilia.

this was an idea used to sexualise, demonise and pervert the experiences and identities of trans women, as it is literally defined as “a male's propensity to be sexually aroused by the thought of himself as a female”. this idea actively presents trans women’s identities as invalid, inherently sexual, potentially mysoginistic, and generally perverse and disgusting.

romantically pairing up two different versions of a (in other iterations) canonically genderfluid / non-binary character, one completely male presenting, one completely female presenting, is not “self love”. if the two characters were friends, who cared for each other deeply and loved each other for who they were, THAT would be a beautiful self love metaphor. having them be romantically involved, sharing an on-screen kiss… that’s an example of autogynephilia. they are saying, “loki is in love with the female version of himself”.

and it doesn’t clearly represent the character as trans or genderfluid to non-queer audiences at all - I’ve spoken to straight/cis friends about their thoughts, and they just saw it as “boy loki is in love with girl loki”

and, sadly, I would bet my entire life savings that they would never have even considered this romance plot line if it was with another male-presenting loki variant. I mean hey, look at the way the three spider man variants were presented in no way home. they were all male, all played by different actors, and THEY WERE LITERALLY DESCRIBED AS BROTHERS. MULTIPLE TIMES.

it just makes me incredibly sad that marvel and its writers would rather a) push the gender binary on a non-binary character, and b) create a romance based around blatant transphobia and borderline (like ON the borderline. like not even just close to it like it is THERE) incest, than include a gay relationship with mobius, or have all iterations of loki be canonically genderfluid. so disappointing.

this is just my take and… honestly idk how anyone could really dispute it, but I’m open to other interpretations!! I hate this pairing with a fiery vengeance but if you like it and you’re willing to be respectful and bring up actual points, I would love to hear your thoughts!!

You all need to go watch La legge di Lidia Poet on Netflix! (The Law according to Lidia Poet)

Poet was the first woman to graduate as a lawyer in Italy in the late 19th century. However, the attorney general revocated her title and she couldn’t practice. I’ll admit I haven’t done much research, so I’m speaking on what I saw in the series. She goes to her brother Enrico and becomes his “assistant,” although she conducts the investigations. It’s only 6 episodes and they are gold!

Lidia is a strong, independent woman, who endured mysoginistic treatment all her life but she never turns into a girl boss, not-like-other-girls character. She’s funny and witty but she never offends anyone just because. And she’s a bit of a romantic. Most of the cases are about women and she has the opportunity of expressing her anger and frustration against the system. Yet, it never feels like they are slapping you with a 21st-century feminist pamphlet. The show is able to expose the injustices women faced in an organic and clever way. I tell you, I was so mad when they read the reasoning of the court to revoke her title 🤬 .

But what I love most is that the three male characters are incredible. Her brother might seem a bit harsh in the beginning, but he loves his sister so much. Their sibling dynamic is so fun to watch. When he shuts her up, you know he’s not mean, he’s just annoyed at his sister. But when it’s time to be serious, he respects her opinion. Jacopo is another very likeable character who is there as a romantic interest but with his own personality and arc.

But the best, the best is this guy:

I cannot express how much I love this guy. He’s a delight! This is what a true gentleman is. He is always there for her, respects her limits, cheers her up. Damn, he even offers her a brighter future expecting nothing in return. Their relationship is casual and he does not pressure for more.

In a time where “feminist” movies/shows only trash men to uplift women, it’s refreshing to see a show with 3 male characters who are likeable and support the female protagonist.

Oh and the humor! It’s so on point. I laughed so hard every episode.

And because there is no period drama without a class-difference romance, here you have that too!

Do you ship any canon ship, in manga/anime? I can't bring myself to ship or even support like 95% of canon ships in manga, they're just... very bland. The dynamics are boring most of the time, there's always some mysoginistic element going on (even in shojo mangas. Why can't the heroine physically save the male love interest for once :/ w h y), and the parties included most of the time have way better chemistry with their same-sex "best friend" (I'm talking about canon straight ships).

Depends on what kind of stories you're reading, how good the author is at setting up and committing to their romance, and how you even define what's 'canon' at all really. Cause the only 'canon' I care about is whether a pair has an interesting canon dynamic (meaning they're a core part of or the focus of the story already) that piques my interest and keeps me invested in their story. To see how they turn out. Otherwise I usually don't 'ship' if their relationship has no focus/development or if the story isn't even about the pair's journey together. Cause not all stories even have romance, or are even structured in a way for a mutual confession at the very final chapter either - cause some, like in Mob, subvert that 'expectation' with no canon couples anyway. So it really depends.

Most shoujos (with clearly advertised romance) that spend their real-estate building a 'main' pairing (unless there's triangles for more twists and drama to keep readers unsure and guessing) usually end up together as....the story properly tells, cause that's literally what those stories are about. Ex: like in Skip Beat, the slowest of the slow burns where the main paring dances around each other indefinitely - some might not consider them technically 'canon' if they haven't openly confessed yet, but if the story is literally about them navigating their developing relationship and growing as people, then...by definition that's what's canon. BLs that focus on a 'main' pairing and properly develop them as advertised are the same. (Oh, and I've read some 'bad' shoujos where the author tried to appeal to both sides of the love 'triangle' but it just turned into a wasted mess that pleased no one. So do yourself a favor and don’t read past the first half of Vampire Knight; ohh what a wtf that became.) More 'harem' type stories with a huge cast of 'suitors' usually end up favoring one pair over another as the story progresses...with extremely obvious hints from the author about where their story's going. Ouran Host Club and Fruits Basket turned out like this, where you could tell who was going to be 'endgame' based on how the drama unfolded, and sure enough, the main 'ship' became a satisfying established item just as I hoped. The authors played their cards right and I have no complaints!

In stories like shonens where romance is not the main focus, but more a side thing or B plot, I can say that fma is probably the most satisfying that developed it naturally (without any bs) over the course of the story, and is probably the only ‘married with kids’ ending that felt genuinely deserved. (So I cheered when Ed/Winry finally became an established item!) Say for Bleach I actually did not have a problem with Orihime, since the story spent several arcs developing her side and how the feelings were mutual, so that becoming endgame was not a surprise to me at all; I was fine with it (even tho I had dropped the manga much earlier for other reasons.) Let’s see...other stories like Inuyasha and Full Metal Panic I was on board with their main pairings too. So for the most part, yes, if authors do it well (with proper setup and payoff) then I have no problem supporting their main het couples.

The only time it’s really a problem to me is when it’s rushed and feels like it comes out of nowhere (Kny, Naruto), or say...when the author heavily teases it the entire story but never commits (aaaah Soul Eater was so close!) Some leave it as a more open-ended thing (Kekkaishi) and that’s ok. Others completely sever it and leave it tragically hollow, unaddressed, and unsatisfying (Blade of the Immortal, damn wtf that felt almost cruel to simply part ways forever.) Others end up with no pairings at all if the story never needed them (or romance) to tell their messages (ex: orv, a korean novel which isn’t a manga or japanese, but it refreshingly had no romance at all despite the many teases going both m&f ways for the mc.) Edit: and also who could forget Blue Flag, where instead of the ‘main’ m/f pair, the mc chose his male best friend for a m/m ending instead!

So...what can I say? (Read more mangas beyond shonens not advertised as romance??) Cause most of the mangas I have read with properly advertised romance between their main ‘canon’ pairs turned out just fine to me - and it’s more of an outlier where they turn out ‘bad,’ but that’s also due to poor planning or rushed endings on the author’s part. Also if the (often male) author knows they don’t do romance well, then it’s preferable they don’t add it in over trying to shoehorn in something unsuitable last-minute. But for the most part, I’m here for the ride, and if I don’t like where the canon story is going, regardless of whether it even has ships or not - cause that’s more a secondary thing, then I’ll drop it. (But I also think...if an unfinished story’s not about a het pair at its core, then it’s presumptuous for readers to assume they’ll become ‘canon’ at all...if canon itself doesn’t even care about them - so yes I’m talking about bnha here, where nothing’s confirmed ‘canon’ yet, but it’s obvious even to Japanese readers what m/m relationship already represents the canon heart of the story.)

I have to say no one calls out these men/bad people before Taylor is involved with them. Like I had never seen that the author of Where the Crawdads Sing was a murder before Taylor wrote that song. Or that the director of Amsterdam was a rapist/pedophile/transphobic asshole. Or that Matty Healy was racist and mysoginistic. So is it really that hard to believe that she didn’t know either. And then after she is already a part of a project/dating someone what is she supposed to do? Release a statement saying “I’m sorry. I didn’t know this guy was so bad. I just have never seen another artist/actor get torn apart for the bad people they associate with. Like all the people who stood by Johnny Depp or Harvey Winestein and continue to work with them and bank role them. Like I get that people are hurt with her association to these bad people, but doesn’t the actual person who is causing the harm deserve more hate. Like Halsey dated this guy yet no one is hating on them (Halsey), or saying that their association with him means that they support his values in any way.

I’m afab transmasc myself, so that’s what I’m most comfortable writing!

(On that note, I’m from the UK, where 16 is the age of consent, so I personally see no issue with writing NSFW of the first years but that’s just how I’ve been brought up— I’ll be aging them up either way though)

Total Frat Movie (2016)

While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...

I gave Total Frat Movie every chance I could. This movie is both overtly and subliminally sexist, the plot is thin and unrealistic and the characters are little more than sketches on a cocktail napkin. Everything it has to offer, you’ve seen before in better movies. I knew this going in and still, it let me down. I might have given it half or even single star until the very end, when it shattered my fragile goodwill towards it into a thousand pieces. If you like this movie or don’t think it’s “that bad”, then you’re a sophomoric moron who probably prefers Girls Gone Wild videos to actual pornography, which makes you the lowest of the low.

Charlie Martin (Justin Deeley) has always dreamed of following in his father’s footsteps and joining the Alpha Chi Gamma Fraternity. When he finally gets in, a party stunt he organizes nearly burns the frat house down and the dean (Tom Green) shuts down Alpha Chi Gamma. Three years later, Charlie and his friends Billy (Alex House) and John “Douchenozzle” MacGyver have the chance to resurrect their fraternity - provided they can find 12 pledges within a week.

You can try, but it's impossible to keep track of how many topless women appear in this laugh-free comedy. I think even bare breasts will start losing their appeal once you realize there is nothing to the film's characters. Aside from a couple of basic quirks, everyone’s essentially the same person. Not helping is the all-white cast entirely composed of identical-looking dudebros. The film goes out of its way to make everyone as generic-looking as possible by even giving the stereotypical nerd a makeover at one point and making him look the same as everyone else. You’ll struggle to identify who Charlie and his buddies are trying to recruit, who’s been with them the whole time and who is actually part of the obligatory rival house of identical-looking white guys. The only way to keep track of the main character is by remembering that he looks an awful lot like a bargain-bin Chris Evans - but without any of the charm or acting talent. Well, that's not fair. This script does Justin Deeley no favors and in his defence, he’s nowhere near the worst performer in this atrocity.

This picture depicts college as nothing but non-stop parties attended by shallow mongoloids who constantly salivate over women who have no ambitions of their own. It's sort of a given with a title like Total Frat Movie so of course, you lower your expectations going in. Don't think that will protect you from disappointment. It gets the big stuff wrong and screws up the details too. As part of a ploy by the rival fraternity, Charlie is drugged, then raped by “Tanya Tatas” (Jordan Kearns), an adult film star. The crime is not only recorded, the video is posted on the internet… but no one says a thing. The assault results in Tanya giving Charlie crabs. So not only did the adult film star get hired by the rival frats to commit a crime on camera - because you would do that - she also has pubic hair - a rarity in adult film stars - and doesn’t undergo the mandatory testing all performers in the porno industry go through to prevent this kind of thing? There was a thousand other ways you could've written this plot, all of which would've made more sense and been less problematic.

Even with the aforementioned sexual assault that goes unpunished, this is a blatantly mysoginist film that’ll have your blood boiling. Every single woman we see ends up either in a neon-coloured bikini or naked - except for one: Katie (Rebecca Dalton), Charlie's love interest. It probably wasn't a conscious decision from director Warren P. Sonoda but the fact that she stays "virginal" indicates that she has value, whereas all of the other women in the film do not. I put virginal in quotations because she sleeps with Charlie after they have all of two conversations (which doesn’t stop her from judging him for being with another woman during a drunken party).

There’s so much to dislike about Total Frat Movie I could keep going on for another 1,000 words. The abysmal and generic soundtrack, wretched attempts at laughter, braindead conclusion, technical errors, lame attempts at being relevant despite the plot that would’ve felt old even in 1979, embarrassing recurring joke about female ejaculation… but you get the point. Just stay away from Total Frat Movie. (April 24, 2020)

I kinda want to give my take on this as a white but non-Western player. Let’s see if this gets misread in the worst way possible :)  I’ve always assumed that the brides’ sexualisation is meant to be in the eye of the beholder. Some people read nudity as sexual by default and others don’t (this is down to both culture and personal values etc). The game is in fact critical towards the one character who openly sexualises them (Andrey). I think the real goal of their attractiveness is to make you uncomfortable (like many other things in this hellgame), since you end up ritually killing the one Bride you have any connection with. For most people, being forced to do this to a character they feel attracted to is a squick. (I mean it's uncomfortable regardless, but I think there might be an extra layer of unpleasantness for people who were hoping the game to take the bride storyline in a Different direction) I can’t comment on the white-passing aspect since I don’t know much about that nor understand it, as someone who doesn’t feel more attracted to “white-passing” people (not saying this to paint myself as a good person or whatever, it just is what it is). I’ll just make a passing note that not all cultures define “race” the exact same way or assign the same connotation to various traits, even though on the english-speaking internet you almost exclusively see the USAmerican take on it, unless you deliberately look for something else.  Now, about the Kin being treated as a hive mind with arguably violent and mysoginistic practices, this is something I feel like I really get as an Eastern European. I’ve often felt conflicted about the values of my native culture, which is, when compared to the West, still quite mysoginistic, distrustful of individualism and often callous and lacking in empathy. I am familiar with feeling torn between the desire to preserve aspects of my culture, and the desire to live according to my own principles which go strongly against it. It makes sense to me that both the Kin as well as the colonizers have both good and significantly bad aspects to their cultures. This is more realistic to my lived experience and how I relate to the West than if they made the Kin culture all pure and faultless. As for the Worms being half soil, keep in mind their culture has the Earth as its main benevolent deity. I don’t think it’s shameful for them to be made of “her flesh”, even though people who don’t understand their culture might see it differently.  Overall I think the game is trying its best to make you uncomfortable, and a main way in which it does this is to keep the Kin from becoming fully sympathetic despite your close contact with them. We all want to root for the underdog and we’re very used to stories that allow us to do so. A lot of people seem to assume that mistakes were made since Pathologic 2 doesn’t follow this pattern, but I think it’s a deliberate choice, and imo a good one that makes for a more realistic story.  This is my opinion, please feel free to disagree and discuss.  

thinking about how mishandled the herb brides are because like. The Text tells us they're not sexual beings (P1 mentions them being virgins, engaged to the Earth, and not to be touched even by their husbands, almost, for a lack of a better word and to conjure an image more than anything, priestess-types) and that their dances are nonsexual and sacred (all all true and correct) WHILE. giving them detailed / 3D modeled nipples. topless. clothes very conveniently torn [in ways that would be unrealistic for actual dancing like in the fucking moshpit]. all pretty thin hairless white-passing blemishless 20-something women. being already sexualized as white-passing asian women, but if they looked more like other NPC models/members of the Kin like the Kayura models (which to me would make more sense because they are never mentioned to be mixed in the way Artemy, an indigenous man who's blonde blue eyes due to being mixed, is [while still very much being indigenous and it being a central part of his story]), it would be even more obvious and would steer even more into Very Blatant fetishization of asian women. and then one asks, are they white-passing because they're sexualized? are they sexualized because they're white-passing? was it an admission of guilt to not make them look like Kayura model, because it would be too obvious then? or is it an admission of lust for women more white-passing? is it about beauty in the eye of the beholder?

then there's bewildering and dehumanizing lore of members of the Kin being non-humans, through the existence of the Worms (literally half-soil), them being a (more or less literal) hivemind, and that being "less human"/closer to the earth (nice_dichotomy_what_lies_outside_of_it png but also... the game touches on that...) immunizes them to the Earth's disease... and yet the Brides look like women... pretty thin hairless white-passing blemishless 20-something women who someone found wise to give 3d modeled nipples to, still good for the ritual cutting... do you hear how i'm going mad yet...
