just learned about the people posting '19th century paintings' by a supposed "emile corsi", which is actually just ai art misleadingly and purposefully being represented as actual historical pieces, and i do think this is an issue for art history and culture that people are doing this (and that more people are being tricked into reposting these pieces under the belief theyre legitimate historical ones, furthering the lie).

however after looking it up a bit im finding that the only issue people have with this is that misrepresentation of art history. and id like us to also consider that many of these pieces are in the 19th-century orientalist style, in which white european artists fictionalized, fetishized and otherized swana people. and the use of ai art to create new pieces of a historical racist style (which still today colors the way swana people and our history are perceived in the west) should be as big a concern as the issue of fooling people into thinking an artist who didnt exist actually did. probably more!

why exactly do you dislike generative art so much? i know its been misused by some folks, but like, why blame a tool because it gets used by shitty people? I just hope maybe you'll look into *why* some people advocate for generative software as strongly as they do, and listen to what they have to say about things -🦜

if Ai genuinely generated its own content I wouldn't have as much of a problem with it, however what Ai currently does is scrape other people's art, collect it, and then build something based off of others stolen works without crediting them. It's like. stealing other peoples art, mashing it together, then saying "this is mine i can not only profit of it but i can use it to cut costs in other industries.

this is more evident by people not "making" art but instead using prompts. Its like going to McDonalds and saying "Burger. Big, Juicy, etc, etc" then instead of a worker making the burger it uses an algorithm to build a burger based off of several restaurant's recepies.

the left is AI art, the right is one of the artists (Lindong) who it pulled the art style from. it's literally mass producing someone's artstyle by taking their art then using an algorithm to rebuild it in any context. this is even more apparent when you see ai art also tries to recreate artists watermarks and generally blends them together making it unintelligible.

Aside from that theres a lot of other ethical problems with it including generating pretty awful content, including but not limited to cp. It also uses a lot of processing power and apparently water? I haven't caught up on the newer developements i've been depressed about it tbh

Then aside from those, studios are leaning towards Ai generation to replace having to pay people. I've seen professional voice actors complain on twitter that they haven't gotten as much work since ai voice generation started, artists are being cut down and replaced by ai art then having the remaining artists fix any errors in the ai art.

I thought it was funny and comedic when we all started using the words yaoi and yuri ironically but lately I've seen a couple people talking abt fujoshis/being fujoshis and I am just a bit concerned that we have forgotten a little bit why people stopped using those words.

I think potentially there needs to be some discussion within the fandom about fetishising gay people especially with the amount of woobification and infantilisation that happens, especially with some of the people in the bigger ships (e.g. jimmy, scar, grian, etc.), though I will acknowledge it does sometimes extend beyond just the shipping side of things for some of those people. I think it also shows up a bit in the anti straight ship undertones of the fandom as well, though ship whoever you want.

I know there are a lot of queer people in the fandom but being queer doesn't necessarily make you immune to fetishising other queer identities. In fandom this is most frequently seen in queer women fetishising mlm relationships (though that's not to say no one can ship gay ships and anyone who does is fetishising, it's a complex topic and theres a lot more nuance than fetishising is good vs everyone who ships gay ships is evil).

This is definitely a discussion that has been hashed out many many times within fandom as a whole but mcyt fandoms do tend to skew younger so there will likely be a decent portion of people who haven't been through it before, especially because I can't recall the conversation ever happening for dsmp or the mcyt fandoms I've been in since and I know that dsmp was a lot of young people's first intro to fandom.

I do still think saying yaoi and yuri is funny and a fun reclaiming thing but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can we keep it ironic and just in general check in on how you're portraying and engaging with gay relationships to make sure you're only being a freak about them in a good way. <3

The hyperfeminization of Arashi by the fandom has been such an issue for the longest time: from forcing her to wear pinks, skirts, dresses *ALL* of the time, to constantly making redesigns of her outfits to fit what they deem to be more feminine. It isn’t a problem to wear any of these, and trans women do wear a lot of these, but the problem is that it not only is not true to her character, but the people who do these things only conduct such because it’s what THEY think is more feminine (because it is what was considered traditionally feminine). When in reality, Arashi herself is already feminine. Everyone knows the writers struggle to respectfully portray her character at times, but her principles have ALWAYS remained the same, and clear. She doesn’t enjoy her gender identity being paraded on, she is comfortable in the clothes she wears. It’s especially frustrating when people redisgn her to always wear dresses, have longer hair, and other things they think makes her more feminine when Arashi chose to dress the way that she does. She likes pants, she likes short hair, the whole point of her character is loving the way that she is- why would she change it so drastically the way that the fandom does? They act as if she is a damsel in distress, when Arashi is one of the most strongest and confident characters. She’s in touch with her emotions most times, and wouldn’t willingly choose things that would make her dysphoric. It’s especially upsetting when the fandom does these things because it begins to hurt real transfem people, and in turn hurts the rest of the community because of how high these expectations go. They expect Arashi to be 100% feminine all the time, degrade her when she shows a bit of masculinity, which then becomes real life transphobia in expecting trans women in real life to hold these standards. This then hurts other trans people in expecting transmasc to be 100% masculine all the time, or non-binary/agender/etc. people to be 100% androgynous all the time. We must accept that Arashi is trans. People think they do already but don’t ACTUALLY accept that she is. They use the pronouns and correct such, but they don’t correct the internalized transphobia they have because they don’t think they have any. Arashi has stated that she does enjoy exploring masculinity at times and feels comfortable to do so, and so we must accept that she will be exploring masculinity when she feels like it: just as any other transfem person would. The people who constantly parade her identity make me think that they don’t surround themselves with other trans people, because they would know that many trans people explore their expression in different ways. Why is it okay for trans masc to wear makeup, dresses and skirts while not having their integrity questioned yet transfem cannot wear pants, have off days or just explore masculine expression when they are already comfortable with their identity?

All in all, it’s disgusting to constantly police Arashi’s gender identity just because it was uncomfortable for the viewer that cannot accept that transfem are allowed to explore their gender identity

i guess so many people loathe and hate europeans due to their history of oppression and colonization that they assume calling out oppressive histories IN GENERAL means you hate the groups that oppressed/colonized. especially since white guilt, white saviorism, and white virtue signaling have become an almost plague in western society.

idk, i don’t hate europeans for their history of persecuting and murdering us jews and for their history in general, i dislike the system because of the pain it caused. i want that system to change.

So no it’s not anything like you pretend it is, preferring other characters is normal. Conjuring hate and things not in the book because you are desperate to hate on the main character is definitely not normal behavior lmao

but i digress. and since its thanksgiving for me and i just spent 4-5 hours preparing a whole ass feast, i’ve got some time today.

you are barking up the wrong tree though, i don’t hate feyre. i was quite literally explaining that people do not have to like the main character of a series/ piece of media, in order to consume said series/ piece of media. like i said before, and you may have been to young at the time, but i remember tons of posts hating on bella (swann), and i mean tons! and yet still enjoyed characters like rosalie and alice and carlisle.

policing people on who they are and aren’t allowed to like seems weirder to me than the people who have a few original posts and reblogs about why they don’t like another character with their reasons.

now as for what feyre is or isnt, there’s a lot of nuance there, like i personally think feyre is annoying and has become a lot more self centered/ bitchy throughout the series, i also recognize that she has been through a lot and has showed some changes. is she my favorite character? MANNNNN HELL NAW i could name 10+ characters i like more than her, BUT i also think she deserves better.

now everything i have said about feyre in posts before, has textual evidence backing it. it seems to just be her fans that make things up about her (in my experience) saying that she and rhys killed amarantha for one, claiming that she was the only one who did anything when living in the cabin, yet she can only heat up soup when she was in the cabin in NC, etc. theres a ton of retconning that sjm just expects us to go along with in regards to feyre and her character and for a lot of us it just doesn’t work like that.

anyways tldr: irdc, i dont hate feyre, but i do hate policing people’s consumption of media. like feyre, or hate her, like rhysand or hate him (newsflash i also don’t hate him, i just don’t agree with his actions) its all your prerogative.
