It's my OCs' first birthday today, yippie!! They're enjoying their birthday with some tiny company and a horribly baked cake. But it's the thought that counts!
These are Pai, Aurelio, and Lizzie. They are a couple and run a diner together in the low suburbs of Halcandra. Their shop also serves as a safe space and shelter for other Star Borns just like them.
They also tend to take in the more little ones of their kind, soon after they've first formed. They look after them and teach them stuff, before letting them go to live independently. But they're always welcome back in their house! Be it for shelter, or a nice cup of coffee.
More about them under the cut. Be warned it gets kinda long.
Pai's ability is Cook. When he was little, he used to use his ability to make food to share with his whole neighborhood as a way of uniting everyone.
Since then he's been steadily building towards a goal, to open his very own Diner. He wanted to create a space for his community to thrive in, though he was severely disadvantaged in such a large city.
He's not one to give up and he always looks on the positive side of things. He tends to spoil the kids they look after with treats, and has a hard time saying no, so he often takes on more than he can handle.
He is the one that looks after the well-being of the kids, and generally, things that require a bit more... Tact. He looks after them when they're sick or injured, which is how he ends up meeting future GSA founders Arthur, Erebus, and Anansi.
Aurelio grew up in a scrapyard with 6 others of their kind, being kept there as guard dogs for the paranoid old man who owned the place. They were encouraged to fight each other for fun, which is how they got the scar across their face.
When they got too big and troublesome, most of them were kicked out of their home and left to fend for themselves.
Aurelio's Spear ability eventually landed them a job as a Knight for Halcandra's elites, where they worked alongside a few of their friends. Their job was to guard the meeting room and defend their assignment from threats.
A few years into this job, they and other soldiers were given a mission. A pair of dragons were nesting at the bottom of the Haldera Volcano, they had to get them out. Dragons are calm if not provoked, so relocation shouldn't be difficult...
As it turns out, the dragons were a mated pair. A male and a female, and they were viciously protecting their egg clutch.
In the battle against the dragons, Aurelio was injured and burned by fire, but their natural fire immunity allowed them to be one of the few survivors. Nevertheless, the Knights were successful in their mission and managed to drive the dragons out.
The 4 eggs that weren't crushed during the battle were passed off to the Ancients for research. They became the Guardian Angel Landia later on.
She was forced to retire from Knighthood at age 31. Due to the lasting effects of their injuries, Aurelio is the one who spends most of the time with the children. For better and for worse.
Because of their childhood, they have very skewed ideas of how to treat children. She'll often put them in dangerous situations unintentionally since she has no frame of reference to tell her that taking kids out to the Gator Pond isn't a very good idea.
Aurelio teaches the rougher life lessons. They've been through quite a bit, so they want the kids to learn how to defend themselves, and to be careful and not have others take advantage of them.
She does most of the disciplining and the one that gives timeouts and other such punishments. She is of the opinion that sometimes rough love is necessary to set someone straight. She's calm and loving, but a bit stuck in the old way of doing things.
Lizzie, real name Angeliz, is a 2-time college dropout who grew up upper class despite her species' disadvantage. She never had many friends growing up, since other kids didn't really like her, and resigned herself to being what her parents wanted her to be.
She tried to study medicine but quit after 2 years. Not wanting to further disappoint her parents, she went into law. Which she also hated but tried to commit to finishing despite how miserable it made her.
Meeting Pai and Aurelio helped her get through the year, but after Aurelio was injured, she quit law and started living with them. She helped Pai balance his business with taking care of Aurelio and eventually used some of the money she still had left to give Pai's Diner the little push forward it needed.
Despite the many etiquette classes she took as a child, Lizzie completely lacks social skills. She's a total disaster, especially when talking to someone she likes. Once she gets comfortable, her true personality starts to shine through.
She's a huge slob and kind of vulgar despite her cute appearance. She's easily angered and does not like to be teased, which makes putting up with bratty kids more difficult for her.
She tends to treat kids as little adults instead, which causes her to not be very mindful of their sensitivities. Even when in a good mood, trying to do her best, she always ends up saying the wrong thing and makes everything worse.
She handles the business aspect of their Diner, crunching numbers and reading over legal documents. She's really smart and knowledgeable, so she's the one who tends to teach kids reading, writing, and math.
Her ability is Bubble. She never used to like it, it was silly and useless to her, so she kept it hidden for years. After meeting her partners and becoming happy, she's started blowing bubbles more frequently. The kids love them.

I didn't even notice until i was doing the dialogue and i was like ew why does it look like that#So i apologize for both how tiny it is and its slight crustiness#couple of fun facts. lizzie wears glasses. though right now she wears contacts#she also has a scar on her left foot. and a big heart on her belly and one on her butt#her design is like. a care bear. but if it had the personality of a 52 year old dad#aurelio's injuries are on their arms and back. they put their arms up to protect their face after they lost their helmet#but the dragon crushed their arm plates. when they tried to retreat it slashed at their back#i unfortunately didn't get to finish aurelio's knight design in time. so you'll have to wait to see that

#bandit's doodles#grian#mumbo jumbo#waffle duo#not much to say about the doodle so I’m jumping straight to the bandit review™#The 2 brushes it had were silly#The basic pen one and the ugly marker one#I liked it for a second then I opened my eyes and realized no it's actually not good#it looks like a dying dry erase marker#And idk about you but dying dry erase markers don't have the most appealing texture to me#it was good for drawing a little messed up grian though so that's fun#moving on from the atrocious marker#It had more than 3 colors so that was nice#but still pre saved colors grind my gears a little bit#I didn't really play with other features#but from what I saw they were pretty normal#Just text#Shapes#That stuff#but the eraser isn't really an eraser#its more like just a white brush#So when you select an area you erased over#It will move the part you used the eraser on#If that makes any sense#Honestly 7/10 aside from the dirt brush and eraser it was pretty fine#ALSOi just heard grian mentioned in mumbos newest video#any scrap of waffle duo is enough for me#im grateful#im fed#And I'm happy

It took 3 months but I am finally finished!
#botw#the legend of zelda#breath of the wild#I knew I was up for a challenge when I started this but I feel that the challenging pieces are the ones I learn the most from#Also I wanted a botw poster for myself so I thought why not draw it myself. A little challenge ^^#It was a ton of fun! Never experimented around with brushes a lot#Painting stone was a lot of fun because I had found a brush in a previous piece that I just vibe with immensly for stone#which is funny considering that before I found it I couldn't figure out how to draw stone for the life of me#its Kritas e)_Marker_Dry brush btw#The trees took forever. The final one is actually the second try after I had already fully painted the once#I did a bunch of experiments with all kinds of brushes before I setteled on this and it worked surprisingly well#Then I tjought I was done and realised that I forgot the tower and these things are suuuper detailed#anyway it didn't take me 3 months of work. I just took loooong breaks because I got sidetracked and for some time forgot abou it#Or just experimenting#I am very pleased with how it came out though!#Never challenged myself to this kind of thing before so that was fun!#And I learned a lot!#you know what technically this is also#lu wild#my posts#my art#duelling peaks

#song of the day#'if I don't make it back from where I've gone / just know I loved you all along'#I'm setting up my queue for a more proper recommendation tomorrow but I've been rereading 'shoulder the sky' by Night_Fury#the whole series draws from various Amazing Devil lines for titles and such#'back then I was dauntless' is my favorite reworking of the Melidaan arc I've ever seen absolutely anywhere#and the title is a line from my favorite Amazing Devil song 'The Calling' but 'Inkpot Gods' is used to stunning effect in-story#and the beautiful refrain from the end of the song is playing in my head now as I keep going into the series#today was a deeply unpleasant day: the inevitable finally happened and Duncan cut himself doing his mudlarking#we'd been trying to schedule a preventative tetanus shot but several times we've gone in for the properly scheduled shot#and found out that they didn't actually have one in stock. unspeakably frustrating#and today we ran out of time for a preventative one. I woke up#(actually I woke up for work as he was going out for his walk but I got a migraine halfway through my morning meeting--no good--#and took the rest of the day off--turns out to have been a very good thing--and went back to sleep. so I woke up the second time)#to Duncan coming back from his walk with a sliced finger and the grody plastic-and-tin swan that had done the slicing#(picture of said swan under the cut because why not. it does look neat. can't see the sharp edge in the pic though it's underneath)#and so then we called the pharmacy and got the same automated 'of course you can have a tetanus shot' as ever so we made an appointment#and we got there and they did actually have a shot in stock this time! except that they weren't able to administer it#because now he's post-exposure that's a different shot and they aren't allowed. so we had to go to the urgent care instead#all told we spent about four hours out of the house on this mission but Duncan did get his shot and some bonus antibiotic goo for the cut#and it was worth it but also bleeeeeeegh it was miserable. which is where my recommendations do come in#when I tell y'all that I spent today reading Night_Fury's fics and also looking at valiants' CoD art and it saved me#whooo I mean it. being simultaneously stressed + bored is the nightmare state for me and instead I had wonderful things in my phone

the one on the left was made in october of 2015, not even 2 weeks after i got the game, and the one on the right was made in february of 2017.

#peridots-art#rain world#scavenger rain world#...usually only draw set characters of games and not. creatures. so that's new for me#absolutely love specbioing these guys though!! buggifying them scratches the right itch in my brain especially when they could reasonably#be buggy in canon!!#bugs#clarification on the ''shrek is maybe two guys'' thing ahead. first we'll argue for One Guy#1. both found in the same region at the same time 2. remarkably similar coloring and mannerisms (seemed to be the pack leader)#and now evidence supporting the two different guys theory:#1. travelled with a different pack of scavengers the second time vs when i found it 2. second time had slightly duller colors and noticably#longer horns (without the little gradient at the end)#so now you see why i didn't notice anything wrong until after reviewing the screenshots. BUT!!! secret third option!!!#the first one with the short horns was found first when i was using the entrance-to-industrial shelter#and the one i mostly relied on for reference was near the higher shelter. shrek numero dos. the canon shrek.#but i have a screenshot of shrek 1 in the place shrek 2 was found. hanging out with one of shrek 2's pack members no less.#conclusion: ???#ok now that that's ''settled''. don't let this all distract you from the fact that the simple act of SWITCHING TO THE SHADING LAYER#got me out of a four-month-long mental rut. i can't say that it was depression nor that i know anything about depression in the first place#but even if it wasn't very serious? it Sucked. even if it was just a nagging thought at the back of my mind my life was duller somehow#i started to feel a little unmotivated. lonely. anxious. like the days blend together. the things i liked weren't bringing as much joy#and all of that got worse recently. the main reason i haven't posted any art for like a month? art stopped being fun.#which is a TERRIBLE thing for someone like me who loves to draw so so much. so when everything that's been building up over the past months#just vanished completely? without warning? you better believe i teared up over a doodle of a scavenger for making me feel right again.#i'm overjoyed to be free of it. i'm hopeful again! i love myself again! i can fall in love with the world all over again!!!#i have no idea how this happened. but i have motivation and determination and i feel like i can change my life for the better now. if i try#maybe this was my normal but it's the striking opposite of what I've been feeling--i'm finally proud of my accomplishments! and of myself!!#which was something i couldn't say in earnest even before december.#and reader? i call you tag-wanderer for i have no way of knowing who you are. maybe a treasured mutual or maybe a stranger. but i love you.#and i hope you make your way out.

I SUCK AT FIGURE DRAWINGS
I set the timer on Line of Action on 60s and prayed that they are gonna be good. Used a blue pencil to not get any smudges. This worked lol.
But yeah, I don't like figure drawings. But since I was trying to draw a comic recently I realised I am very bad at drawing poses that aren't very stationary. So figure drawing practice it is!
I'm gonna do more this evening as the second post but with 2minute timer to study the poses some more.

#so I almost didn't make this summary at all#2023 was a terrible year for me all around especially its second part#and I cried when I realized that for the first time ever since I started to post my art online#I don't have at least one piece to choose from for every month#so this summary is cheated a little bit#I spread some projects for a few months#because hey I actually did have it in the wip status for fucking forever lol#and the last two months show my latest wip#which I haven't touched since early November#I had no spoons left to even open Procreate in December#so yeah#but in some aspects this year was a big one too#I started writing#which I hope to continue when rl is kinder for me again#I also read A LOT of books#I caught up with my tbr quite nicely#and I hope to draw more standalone fanarts to the books I loved most#for those of you who follow me for my hp art#I decided to leave it out of this summary even though I created some of it at the beginning of the year#but at least for the time being I don't plan to create more#I guess jkr bullshit finally outweighted my joy for it#I had to unfollow a lot of mutuals and mute a lot of tags#so sorry about that#if I unfollowed you it's nothing personal I still love YOU I just needed my dash to not be all hidden drarry posts 🥹#anyway#yeah#fingers crossed for some good changes in 2024 y'all#Happy New Year!#art summary 2023#my art

#Well shes one of them. I will draw her... someday...#Basically while working with Kiri. Izuchi learns more about Aira and is like huh well I could probably do that. so he does.#Way later though#Sagara dealt more with the less technical end of things like clothes or gathering parts or making sure he didn't blow himself up#also like name and personality and stuff#She's fine with the whole robot kid thing. Thinks it's cool actually#the muscles are more rudimentary because he isn't Kiri but he was angling more for the Create A Sentient Person From Scratch aspect#so she looks more doll-like but that's fine.#He also programmed her to be less zealous than Aira so she doesn't make a break for it 0.5 seconds after existing but the downfall#is that she goes in the opposite extreme and ends up with a debilitating identity crisis#she figures it out though. godbless.#pieceofcake.txt

I don’t think he ever read any of my poems now that I think about it
#tales from diana#when we first met i told him about my poems and i gave him some free copies of this small local literary magazine they're published in#he pretended to be interested but never actually said he read them. i dont think i asked more than a couple times#but if i recall correctly he told me unprompted a few times he hadnt#perhaps thats why he thought of me as more of an artist than a poet. he had seen me draw but i dont write poems in front of ppl#and it takes one second to look at a drawing (and to not appreciate it) (as he didn't for the most part)#even though i explained often that id only been drawing for like a year and im still very much a beginner and it's a huge struggle for me#it's very very hard for me to draw i don't consider myself good at it. ive made a FEW good works but im not a good artist#im not confident but that's ok ive enjoyed my progress#there were a lot of little things id do for him that he just wouldnt acknowledge much or seem to care about#so much for trying to make an impression on ppl#i think some ppl only want to be around you so they can suck up your company and feel validated#i have to be honest. that is nothing like me at all#im fine being alone. i could never be addicted to ppl as some are.#long story short this guy never cared about me

think I'm going to try to remake this game from the ground up after we submit it just to see how much of the crap/issues/difficulty we're running into is because these systems are actually hard to use/create/implement and how much is because no one bothered to research or plan or think what they'd need to do and know and learn when they had the time
I swear to god if I end up being able to remake this game to my standards (and not the standards of our project manager who has completely borked priorities) in under two months I'm going to lose it
#when I say our project manager has terrible priorities#I mean he's adamant that I draw a cutscene comic for the end of our game instead of fixing the character animations#even though our animations are at best functional in that they're animations and it's clear what they're meant to be#but they look terrible and don't line up properly (characters slide across the ground when walking#because their movement speed isn't linked to the animation. and the other animations all feel awkward and limp and underwhelming)#and both the lecturer and the tutor/other teacher have said that fixing the animations so the game feels good to play#is more important than making a comic that plays after you beat the game#because it doesn't matter how good the comic is if the game is ass#and yet our project manager decided I shouldn't ditch the comic to fix our animations (because the two 3d guys are too busy to do it)#and that I really really need to get the comic done. because. I dunno.#also he didn't make our 3d guys research how to set up animation blending/combining and procedural animations during the first three weeks#even though we'd need to do those and our 3d guys weren't doing anything because I was making the concept art#he just went ''oh I guess we'll figure it out when we get to it'' when they said they'd looked at some videos but weren't sure how to do it#and now we're two weeks from submission and only ereyesterday did our second 3d guy start working on setting up the systems#that would let you aim your gun#and neither of our 3d guys have set up proper animation trees yet (and by that I mean we don't have a single one#so our animations don't blend at all and just go straight from one to the other without any in betweens/transition
