ADVICE FOR NEWLY DISCOVERED OR SUSPECTED SYSTEMS

if you suspect you may be a system or have recently discovered that youre a system, things can be confusing and hard. im making this post as someone who has been aware of being a system for about 5 years and has been diagnosed for 2. these are things i wish we knew and did. i hope it will be helpful to some of you and i wish you luck on discovering things about yourself and your system keep in mind everyone is different and systems are no exception, so what i list here might be incredibly beneficial for one person but do nothing for another. find what works for you. i will try to provide a variety of advice in order for you to see what fits you best DO YOUR RESEARCH research the disorder, try to find others experiences and things you think would help you. this is especially helpful if you are suspecting and not yet sure if you have it, researching symptoms and others experiences can be very helpful in determining START SYMPTOM LOGGING this can be as simple as "i blacked out today" or "i dont feel like myself right now", you dont have to be identifying switches or putting names to alters, theres no rush to be able to do that and some systems have no desire to do that symptom logging is useful because it can help you identify potential triggers and patterns in your symptoms. for example, if you can remember what happened before a period of amnesia and remember being exposed to a stressful event or something potentially triggering, this would be worth writing down to see if its a recurring pattern REACH OUT TO OTHER ALTERS this can be done in a variety of ways, but the easiest way would be to leave a note in a place itll be seen. for example, a sticky note on a mirror (if you live with other people and cant do this, try leaving a note on your phone in a frequently checked app) i would advise saying something along the lines of "hello, i am (name) and i would like to communicate with you. i suspect we have a disorder called (DID/OSDD) and we share the same body and mind. please write back to me in (location, can be a notebook or app etc) and tell me some about yourself if you feel comfortable" but you can say whatever works for you. i just think the main points to cover are having DID/OSDD and introducing yourself as well as asking for an introduction in return START WORKING ON COMMUNICATION this takes a lot of practice, so i always say its better to build up early rather than late. we have a whole post on it that can be found here REMINDERS AND THINGS TO REMEMBER if you do not remember your trauma, do not dig for it. it isnt safe to try to remember trauma without professionals help. if you happen to remember, thats one thing, but dont intentionally seek out triggers to try to remember denial is common and not a sign of faking, if you were faking you would know and would not be in denial. being wrong about having DID/OSDD (if you are suspecting but not sure) is not the same as faking no two systems are the same. you dont have to look exactly like some other system you know or online to be real its normal to not know everything right away. you wont know all your alters immediately, you may not be able to access (and you may not have) your innerworld, you probably wont remember all of your trauma without professionals help, etc. its all normal its totally ok to keep information about your system private. there is no need to share with anyone you do not feel completely safe and comfortable with switching at any frequency is normal, there is no "correct" amount to switch. any amount of alters is normal, there is no "correct" amount of alters. any level of amnesia is normal, there is no "correct" level of amnesia apps like simply plural and bots like pluralkit can be incredibly helpful for some systems, but there is absolutely no pressure to use them if you do not feel comfortable - grey

He chuckles crossing his arms over his broad chest and you may be uninterested but youre not blind to how his compression tee squeezes him in a way thats… satisfactory to the eye.

“Going to shoot me princess? I thought you were too good to get your hands dirty. Squeemish at blood even” he pokes until you release six shots shooting the men slowly approaching that he failed to notice.

“You fucking shot me!” He growls touching the tiny drip of blood from where the bullet grazed the tip of his ear just enough to break skin not cause any definite damage. 

Taking a bow you smirk before making eye contact with him the only gap in your mask being the slot for your eyes.

“Oh sorry about that pretty boy, ill do you a solid and let you tell shiu you got this one all on your own.” you tease knowing his pride wouldn't let him take the credit for something he wouldn’t do. 

“No i don’t want your pity kill” he seethes looking as if he’s ready to throw a tantrum yet you can only smile knowing you won this battle.

“Great more money for me” you grin running past him the location no longer serving you any purpose. It was time to cash in and Shiu didnt stay up past 2am.

Toji grabs your arm stopping you from escaping though before he could speak the faint sound of sirens in the distance growing closer.

“What? You goin’ to hold me here until the cops get here with these other dead bodies how do you think that’s going to look? I told my mom (who happens to be 50% Nigerian) that she needs to be careful with those people, as they don’t even like her….no one does….they only like ME, and use her to get to ME. Anyways, enough about them.

I know people are getting impatient waiting for my long, long, long list of products for my new Scam Company ARO. They are coming….likely in the year 2080. So, something to look forward to. I have great hope for my toilet paper line, dental floss, toothpaste, perfume, and dish detergent. I am really focusing on these items. I do however want to start a line of brooms and shovels as well. So anyways, that’s why it was so important for me to create my new dish detergent, I can’t recall why I named it Dawn though? Oh, I do recall now….thats the time I usually roll home! My amazing business ARO is a family business, I even have LallyBet doing testing…she will always have a future washing dishes. She will have to earn her own money in life, because….what is MINE…is MINE, and I will spend every penny on ME!

Oh my trip! Yeah so I was invited to……Nigerian. It was fun. The best part is….they see me as the Princess of Nigerian. They were so easy to scam! (Note to self…send them jam and dish detergent.). Ok, this is a real secret. Larry (Harry) and I are going to Australia. We decided we are going to become King and Queen over there. We can’t get back into the UK, or Kanada..so Australia is the only place left. I want to go there for two reasons. One, they need a king and QUEEN. Two, I love Kalhua Bears. We are going to get a partition going, should be easy. The Aussies have thick accents, and I don’t think they understand English so should be easy to fool them. If they catch on and say they have a King and Queen, we will just tell them they quit their jobs, and told us to go under. Seriously, I think we can pull this off. I will have the biggest tiara anyone has ever seen. Do they have yachts in Aussie? Asking for a friend. I have seen some of the men in Aussie. Oh yeah….they would like me…no doubt about it. -He's pretty impulsive when it comes to making decisions, so don't be surprised if you suddenly have thousands worth of things that make your life a little easier at your front door

-He's not shy when it comes to spending money on you, so feel free to ask for anything and he's ready to pay

-If massages help you, he would definitely buy you these massage tools since he can't be with you most of the time

I am out to my parents! I came out about 5 years ago now, it was my anniversary recently actually!

i came out to my dad first. i was going to his house for a different reason, but i decided to do it then because. idk. i just felt ready i guess. i sat down with him and he could tell something was up, so he asked me if there was anything i wanted to talk about and i said yes. and i told him i was nonbinary and aroace, and that i wanted to use they/them pronouns and go by a shortened version of my birth name (this was before i had decided on robin and he/they). he asked me what those things meant, with genuine curiosity because he hadnt heard of them before, so i explained it to him and he said ok! thats fine. and he said he loved me and supported me no matter what, and that it would be a bit hypocritical for him not to since he is queer himself (which i was not aware of at the time! he just assumed i knew??? hes pansexual lmao)

he did a bunch of research in his own time, watching videos by nonbinary youtubers and stuff like that. he learned how important it is for parents to facilitate social transition, so he took me to get my first gender affirming haircut a few weeks later. he also bought me my first binder, and took me shopping in the mens section for the first time. he also took me to my first pride that year! he has remained super supportive, calling me his son at work, greeting me with "hey my boy!" every time he sees me or calls me on the phone, has barely ever slipped up on my pronouns. basically, my dads a fucking legend lmao

i think a few weeks to a couple months after i told my dad, i came out to my mum. that went. not great. she was like. ok. and immediately went back to her phone. my heart just sank. she still gets my pronouns wrong 5 years later, she says often that i will always be her daughter. she even said that trans people are just mentally ill. she loves jkr and often uses terf talking points. but, she Says she supports me and isnt transphobic, and she Tries to use my pronouns so. yk. that makes everything ok /s

she also thinks that ill change my mind about being aroace when i find 'the right person'. i never told her about the queer platonic relationship i was in because i knew she would just use that against me. i had an entire year long relationship, and to this day she has no idea.

the thing is, my mum had always been a self professed supporter of the lgbtq. when i was a kid it was always "when you grow up and get a boyfriend or girlfriend" or "when you get married to your husband or wife", so i thought it would be a slam dunk. i thought, theres no way she wont accept me. but here we are. meanwhile, i had been quite nervous about telling my dad! i didnt know how he was going to react.

so, you never really know how these things will go. this isnt me telling you to come out, by the way! if you feel unsafe or unready then please dont. do whats right for you first and foremost. but, sometimes people will surprise you i guess, and not always for the better.

you will find your people. family is about unconditional love and acceptance, and if your parents arent providing that for you then they're not doing their damn jobs properly.

Anyways I wanna do him justice like everyone else I did so here this is.

I've already stated in his little character profile that he doesn't take shit from people looking for him solely for his smarts, or to use him as a doormat to get what they want, but I'm not saying he's mean, if I had to rank the most energetic and excitable critters in my au, it would go Hoppy, Dogday, then Bubba. (I do love a wild card bubba, im actually writing something that shows hes not afraid to get a little illegal) It really just depends on intention, which he is good discerning.

He's like a older brother you can go to if you want to know something, but he won't be like that if you're only there for the info. I also fought the urge to make him the "um, actually" type of smart person but he's not that. If you bring up something he'll add extra info that's relevant in a way you can understand, and if you said something wrong, he won't interrupt you, just tell you later.

Oh and another thing, he's not just naturally smart, he's good at remembering things. The reason he knows such topics in the first place is stated here, but a short summary would be that he wanted to help his parents out with money bcuz they're not the best financially (not poor but like, just enough. As in cuttting it close with prices and bills) so he's trying his best to get the greatest education to make enough to help them. So he's put work in to get where he is.

The first time you tic you’re gonna get owl eyes. Maybe even a puppy-dog head tilt. It’s not that he doesn’t know what tics are, he just needs a minute to figure out that whatever it was you just did was tics.

Other than the initial hiccup, he’s very good about them! He avoids your triggers best he can.

Hell he probably even figures a few out that you haven’t yet.

God he’s a gentleman. He takes some time out of his day to do some research so he knows what to expect. Even talks to a few of his “employees” that have tics.

For verbal tics he’s a bit of an ass. Like he won’t engage with them every irme bc thats a shitty thing to do, but he has a hard time not laughing if a verbal tic had great comedic timing yk.

I see Tommy as a pretty good communicator and great at getting consent, so he’d ask before playing around with you and your tics.

On that note, he absolutely tries to add the dumbest tics to your roster. He’ll be going around saying “meow meow meow” with full knowledge that you’re probably gonna pick it up.

God save you if you unwittingly add a kitty paws pose or something to it. You will never know mercy or peace again I’m afraid.

Again this is all if you say he can mess with you.

When it comes to physical tics, he’s a lot more careful. He doesn’t baby you I promise. He just tries to be more cognizant of what you both are doing.

A great spotter in this case. If you like to cook he offers to stand around to make sure you don’t accidentally fling a mixing bowl.

He loves card games and loves if you play with him. I make no promises on whether or not he ignores accidental slip ups due to your tics. He’s usually merciful and pretends he didn’t see it, but if he’s losing he’s probably gonna cheat. He cheats anyway so I guess it’s not that big a deal.

He asks you early on what you want him to do about tic attacks. He’s a genuinely trustworthy guy (as long as he considers you a friend but hey). Whatever you say to do he follows to a “t”.

He’s pretty good about catching these things early so you don’t mess yourself up. If he’s around, you’ll hit yourself maybe once before his hand is acting as a barrier.

He gets it immediately. Jupiter has tics so he knows whats up.

Mars does not make a big deal about it. He’s a bit more stone faced than Tommy so he usually ignores it.

Unless the comedic timing is just that good.

He’s not bad, but you guys don’t have a dedicated “oh hey btw” type of conversation about your tics. If there’s something you feel the need to talk about, you’re gonna have to bring it up yourself.

Everything is a bit more reactive.

You start repeating something he or his brother says a lot? He’ll ask about if you’re cool with it or f you want him to be a bit more aware of what he says.

If you help out in the chicken coop and start ticcing any chicken sounds, you’re done for. It’s one of the few things he will laugh and joke about. Sometimes it feels like mocking but I promise it’s not mean-spirited.

If you get physical tics that cause you to throw things a lot you’re probably gonna be banned from egg collection duty.

Not the kitchen surprisingly. He knows how to keep an eye-socket out for Jupes so he can do it for you too.

If you too are playing around and playing a board game or something it’s very likely he will just let your tics be a part of the game.

When it comes to harmful/dangerous tics, he’s a lot more helpful. He is good at helping redirect tics So your possibly self destructive tics can go somewhere less self destructive.

Good reflexes and strength too. Scratching and hitting tics are easily held back by him. NOT PINNED. That’s dangerous and he know’s that.

He knows to leave enough room to let your body run its course without letting you get hurt yk.

-How does jealously work for Hyde? Does he only feel it for certain people or in certain situations? What are situations that would make him jealous? To use current rp relationships as examples - how would he feel if Dorian started flirting with a waiter while they were on a date vs Dorian coming back covered in hickeys? Or someone flirting with Gabriel vs Gabriel being in a relationship with more than just Hyde?

-How does Hyde express love, since they seem to be unable to verbally articulate it a lot of the time? In more simple words, going by a commonly known system, what would be their love language? How do they prefer to receive love vs how do they show it?

-Hyde is a pretty jealous guy when it comes to the people he's latched on specifically. Usually they're very careless- he is disconnected from humanity in general and what any dumb human being does is NOT his business... but if it involves the very few people he tolerates, then yes, they are jealous, even possessive, with the last threads of his moral compass acting as a buffer at times to prevent him from getting downright creepy. If Dorian started flirting or making out with someone during a date he'd get more mad that he's not paying attention to it and "getting distracted".

nOW, if we're talking Gabriel, breathing in his direction would be a perfect recipe for disaster. And Hyde only lets him see other people because (through gritted teeth) thats what makes Gabriel happy. What, nobody said Hyde was a good person to date.

-They show love through physical attention and body language, like... walking over to someone, getting close, touching them, nuzzling them, the works. However, it's aware their touch puts people on edge, so ironically enough he avoids touching the people he loves the most, at least at first.

But, in general, I think their love language is, in terms of giving love, more like, quality time, you know? If he can't touch you at least it can sit by you in silence, reading a book, just... blessing you with his presence, I suppose. And this isnt just a Hyde think; Jekyll has always been like that. I think that if he was diagnosed as Jekyll the ASPD and the ADHD would have been less noticeable because Jekyll is MASKING SO MUCH it hurts, but conversely, they would have gotten the OCD label slapped on. I'm not entirely sure if Jekyll/Hyde has full on OCD but his brain is indeed intrusive thoughts central. Their thoughts are 80% HHHGMGHGM YOU DID A BAD YOU'RE GOING TO HELL FOREVERRRRRR.

If you want a honest answer: Jekyll doesn't like people very much, with few exceptions, and is INCREDIBLY arrogant and self-centered to the point he has ZERO qualms with being mean to their friends (all three of them) and his "social" persona is just an elaborate act that drains him a lot. So as Hyde he just... lets it all out and that's why he's LIKE THAT.

Ok final thoughts: that was a solid 7 and a half out of 10

thank you Supernatural you hit almost all the high notes when most stuff falls flat for me. Still, you came soooooooooo close. And got so far. And Yet in the end it doesnt even matter.

Still, this one's going straight to the pool room, and I can comfortably say I'm throwing it on the shelf of 'comfort media' that I can go back to on a bad day.

This had some fucking BANGER scenes that surpassed my expectations and deeply pleasantly surprised me. Good shit! As someone who is hard to please, this was a riot. Still; a shame they arbritrarily rules-d him taking a chunk out of someone. Would have been sick. Could have had the great slow build up of the initial turning scene - him and the love interest, holding back - then him cracking it after holding out and snapping.

It is not too much to ask, I swear. It's a good trope.

Do I dare take the risk of trawling through fanfiction to find another horribly specific weirdo like me, because Supernatural seems huge and a scary place to fanfic trawl.

Ok, so I was trying to do research for a project (it wasnt even remotely related to politics, it was on fucking internet archival, so NO idea why this ad showed up [It wasnt even on my main google account, it was on my school one]), and this... specimen came up on my screen:

FIRST OF ALL: I support Palestine. Israel is literally trying to do an ethnic cleansing, and while Hamas is bad, they were a) a byproduct of the shitty conditions Israel put the Palestinians and the people of Gaza in, and B), Im pretty sure that a genocidal governments is worse than a fringe terrorist group (and yes, both are bad. No shit. And just because I dont support Israel does not mean that I do not support Hamas. Thats reductionist and a false dichotomy)

SECOND OF ALL: this is like BLATANT emotional manipulation. The image of a little kid, the yes button being larger and glowing, the title being sensationalized, all of it is pure emotional manipulation.

THIRD OF ALL: Even if this was a real event that happened (Which I have no idea if it did), just because Hamas did something objectively horrible, does not detract from the fact that Israel is/has also done the same FUCKING THINGS.

This ad basically embodies everything I hate about the current discourse surrounding Hamas: Almost all of the people who I see supporting Israel use shitty tactics such as emotional manipulation and logical fallacies to justify their arguments. Literally ALL THE TIME.
