@skyloftian-nutcase I just think you're so cool and awesome and I just love so much of your stuff from your healthcase shenanigans to your Zelda ideas to your birdie and doggies and just all the passion you have for everything you do it just leaves me in an overwhelmed awe. And this might sound self-deprecating but sometimes I wish I could just be a fraction of how cool your stories and you are that I hide because it overwhelms me. Like I wish I just had the courage to put myself out there, to make art for my stories and share it with people and be able to interact with people over my stories like you do and I saw your Rusl takeover and it was so cool and I'm just repeating myself at this point (I'm bad at words sometimes) but I just wanted to let you know that instead of just bottling it up like some weird sit-com thing.

And this might seem weird but I think about you every time I hear or see an ambulance 🫣

Sorry if this seems weird and out of the blue I'm just used to people always just assuming the worst in me and snapping back so I didn't wanna just randomly come out of nowhere because I didn't wanna be that person especially considering I have no clue if you have any opinions about me but I guess I am now so oh well. Task Force 141 is doing training drills. Jamie's usual partner is Ghost, but Price pairs her with a rookie instead. Jamie dislikes this, yet yields to Price. Price instructs Jamie to go easy on the rookie. "Oh boy, she's pissed now," Gaz whispers to Ghost. "Yeah, she's used to giving us a challenge, not holding back." Jamie and the rookie get into position for the sparring match. Price is carefully watching, hoping Jamie will not be too rough on the rookie.

Against everyone's expectations, Jamie endures several of the rookie's punches before defending. She increases her defense, making the rookie have to try harder, but Gaz, Ghost, Price and Soap know she's still holding back. After a few more blows, Jamie decides it's time to give the rookie a challenge. Jamie is still not using her full strength, but it's still a challenge for the rookie. A brief fight ends with Jamie pinning the rookie. Price declares Jamie the winner.

"I did good, right?" The rookie asks while panting. "Yeah, sure," Jamie says. She walks away.

"Weakling," Jamie mutters under her breath. "Come on, you know they're new recruits," Ghost says as he walks with her. "Don't tell me you forget we were all once like them?" "So? We shouldn't go easy on them." "True, but you know you give the rest of us a challenge. With rookies, you'll end up injuring them." "Fine," Jamie sulks.

      "Alright Alessia, be a good girl now." The don looked over at the winged girl. She moved off of Ethan and stood next to Alessia. "Good, now then, both of you against the wall." Kira backed up, her back touching the cold wall. Ethan got up and stood over the angel.

      "You did good, angel. Now your luck has run out." He pulled out his dagger and held it under her neck. Kira whined as Alessia's wrists were forced behind her.

      "Now then, either you give me the product I'm deserved, or this cute pet is mine."

      "I can't do that. For one, you know you can't have the product because you'd only use it for yourself. Secondly, Angel here wouldn't let you take her. She needs to gain trust." Lexi pressed the gun muzzle against Alessia's cheek. "You can't make me do anything! Just give me what I want before I take something of yours!"

      Kira bit Ethan's hand and lunged at Lexi. The woman turned and fired at the girl. She cried out as the bullet pierced her arm. The winged girl fell to the floor. Blood dripped from her upper right arm. Lexi stood over Kira. "Unfortunate, you thought you could do something," she squatted down in front of the angel. "You wouldn't have gotten hurt if you..." The angel clawed at the woman. Her sleeve ripped open as her claws slashed Lexi's arm. The gun clattered onto the ground. Alessia pushed Lexi to the ground. Her boot was placed on her rival's back.

      "Go, home." She lifted her foot off and Lexi got up.

      "We're not done here." The two trespassers left. Alessia sighed and sat down in front of the angel. Flowers grew out from the wound as Kira lifted her head. The don placed a hand on the girl's cheek.

      "I... I did good right?"

      "You did good angel. You did good."

Ed sees the worst version of himself. Also on AO3.

Blackbeard insisted that they go with him to the Icarus and Ed knew well enough not to disobey. He knew the mood, recognized it, could even feel a bit of it leeching off the man and into his own bones. 

Refusing might get him or Stede killed and he had a feeling his friends were in danger. So he and Stede boarded the Icarus and sailed away from their Inn. 

“I see Captain Horn is no longer here,” Ed said. 

“No, follow me.” 

He and Stede followed Blackbeard into the cabin of the Icarus. Horn’s things were still strewn about and it looked like he hadn’t been gone for long.  

“I”m afraid Captain Horn led me in the wrong direction and I had to dispose of him.” 

“You killed him,” Stede said. 

“I had to. I split him open and fed him to sharks. He betrayed me and I needed to make sure his crew knew I meant business. You’ve gone soft Edward Teach.” 

“Done me a lot of good,” Ed said. 

Blackbeard scoffed, “Not from where I’m sitting.” 

“What do you want?” Ed asked. 

“To conquer your world. Mine was getting far too boring and I’ve been to a few others that weren’t quite right. This one though is perfect.” 

“Not yours mate,” Ed said. 

“It will be, but first I need to get back to the Queen and maybe find your ship that’s wandering about. Small ship isn’t it?” 

“It was a good ship, Izzy’s Revenge,” Ed said. 

“Izzy’s Revenge. You lost him here.” 

“I did.” 

“I must admit I’ve thought about getting rid of him.” 

“How dare you, Izzy is our family.” 

“Izzy is a tool, a weapon to be used. Some day he may not be as useful. Yours must have lost some usefulness if he was killed,” Blackbeard said. 

“It was a fucking tragedy,” Ed said. 

“Hmm. Well we’ll find your ship and get down to some business,” Blackbeard said, “In the meantime relax.” 

Blackbeard left and Ed sighed. He didn’t like seeing himself like this. His chest felt tight and he felt like running away from the whole thing. It brought back memories of the times where he was at his worst, when he was hurting himself and Izzy and felt like there was no coming back from it at all. 

“Ed? Love…” 

“I did good right? I made up for being like that right? Izzy…I…” 

“Ed my love it’s alright, you are alright and yes you did good,” Stede said wrapping him in his arms. Ed felt like running away and had to concentrate hard not to push Stede off him and do so. 

“How could he say that about Izzy…” 

“I know, I know.” 

“Fuck that means his Izzy is here I can’t…” 

“We’ll see what we can do but we need to be smart about this and be careful,” Stede said, “I know you can do it, we can do it.”

“Fuck, I could have turned out like that.” 

“But you didn’t, that isn’t you no matter how disturbing it is, it isn’t you. We’ll be alright Ed and we’ll figure out how to protect our family.” 

Ed knew they could, he and Stede were a good match for figuring things out and coming up with plans. They were both insane and smart and it was that combo that had helped both of them their whole lives. He just didn’t want to lose anyone. He didn’t want to lose Izzy again, didn’t want any of his old crew to go down. 

Ed took a few deep breaths and concentrated on Stede being there. He could do it, they could do it. They were a team, their family was a team and their love for each other would be an advantage and they would figure out what to do. 

Blackbeard was wrong. Going soft was not what Ed had done, no, he had taken control of his life and done what he wanted to do and that was what gave him the advantage. 

The Queen Anne and Izzy’s Revenge were floating side by side, Ed could see that Frenchie was on the Anne with Jim and Izzy…and another Izzy…and the rest of the crew were on Izzy’s Revenge.

“Well this is certainly an interesting situation,” Blackbeard said. It might to some sound like someone who was pissed or who didn’t know what to do but no that wasn’t what was going on. Blackbeard sounded like a cat just about to start playing with a mouse, sure that he would win against two ships. 

Ed had to agree that the situation was interesting. Almost as soon as the Icarus appeared all the crews of both ships went below deck. They were trying to lure Blackbeard away maybe, or they didn’t want Blackbeard’s Izzy to be able to talk to him. 

That Ed believed for sure. He and Izzy had spent many fights without orders where all they would do was look at each other and they were on the same page and knew what the other was thinking. Those were the good days and Ed did miss them and how he and Izzy had been.

“So there’s another Izzy here, a replacement for you is he?” 

“He came through before, his Ed is dead.” 

“Ah so I don’t really have to worry about him do I? A failure. Maybe you two belong together after all,” Blackbeard said.

Ed tried to figure out the best way to deal with the situation. Blackbeard was doing the exact same thing and Ed tried to concentrate on his own plan and not think too much about what Blackbeard was doing. It was hard not to try to outthink the man. It was sort of a contest between two versions of himself and he wanted to be the one who won. 

“Stop hiding and come out and talk!” Blackbeard yelled. 

After a few moments Frenchie came on deck of the Queen Anne. He stayed far enough away so he was out of range of a pistol and no one else was on deck with him. 

“I think we should talk over here,” he said. 

“So you can capture me?” 

“No no no, wouldn’t want to Capture you I just think we are safer over here,” Frenchie said. 

Something was off and something was odd. Frenchie was nervous and everyone was hiding. 

“I saw some of my crew on deck but I did not see my Izzy. And don’t fucking try to bring that other one out, I saw him too,” Blackbeard said. 

“He’s alive, you can come over and see him,” Frenchie said. 

“No good, first things first, I need to see him alive,” Blackbeard said. 

“I shall return,” Frenchie said and went below deck again. 

Blackbeard shifted and looked around. Ed knew the look well, this Blackbeard was confused as to what was going on. Problem was Ed was fucking confused too.

I feel like we really lost something when we started looking at writing as a reader-centric product meant to appeal to the desires of a specific audience rather than a writer-centric approach of someone writes whatever particular thing particular compels them/whatever weird thing the demons in their head want to talk about, and people out there who are also compelled, and/or relate, find that writing. A lot of discussions of writing really center around what readers want rather than a writer's exploration. Sometimes as a reader I don't know what I want. I click on a fic or pick up a book I'm not sure about but that looks interesting, and I love it. Reading what I expect to get is it's own joy, but we always need to expand our horizons and not get mad at creators for not always writing what we want/expect.

CHILDHOOD TRAUMA: Painful Hug | Moment of Clarity | "I did good, right?"

CW: Major character death, childhood trauma

Caretaker hugging Whumpee's body in an iron-clad grip even after their heart stops beating. People keep trying to pull them away, telling them that Whumpee's pulse has stopped and they aren't coming back, but Caretaker's hands keep holding on with strength that makes their knuckles turn white. Maybe the pain will make Whumpee wake up for them.

"I did good, right? In the battle?" "Yeah, kid, you did great. Now, sit still so I can bandage you up properly."

Whumpee has finally broken off their deeply-rooted toxic relationship with Whumper in a moment of complete clarity, and it hurts more than they could ever imagine. All they can do is cling onto Caretaker, in a state of utter turmoil, as Whumper leaves them behind and Caretaker assures them that everything will be okay.

The moment when Whumpee realises what they went through as a child was not normal. Making a joke about it to their friends and getting weird looks. The slow realisation of wait, that didn't happen to you guys? The initial disbelief and denial because if that didn't happen to anybody else then why did it have to happen to Whumpee? Did they really deserve all that pain?

me and childhood trauma whump go way back. it was actually part of my whump awakening since there was just so much in the tv shows i watched. i was watching very child-friendly tv shows though. trust me :)
