Unofficial "Gayness Levels" of my 7 TOP TIER fave-of-all-time slash couples

(that I’m doing purely to pass the time whilst sick with covid, don't be mad at ratings, I adore them all & tried to be as non-biased as possible, looking purely at canon moments!! xD)

Warning: This post is anti-Hinny & anti-Arwen. If that triggers you, don't read. In actuality, I don't hate Ginny or Gwen. Ginny got better in HPCC after she was no longer an annoying teenage girl, and Gwen is my fave girl! But I ship her with Lancelot, not Arthur! ;~;

I worked diligently for hours each day since coming down with covid (after the 2nd day, because before then I was too weak to move).

I tried making sure each ship had a proper fighting chance. My ships are like my children lol. X3 I went into this working from the top down, with assuming the best of them and trying to find evidence for why they were 5 stars in each category!! I wanted all my ships to get 5 stars across the board. But I also had to be partial/realistic, supporting the 5 stars with evidence, or lack thereof, in some cases.

Cons:

Lack of Explicit Romance: While the emotional and psychological depth of their relationship is clear, there’s no explicit romantic resolution in the canon yet (we only just got done with season 1). Fans are left with a lot of subtext, which, while meaningful, can be frustrating for those seeking concrete confirmation of their relationship beyond friendship.

One-Sided Vulnerability at Times: While Langa expresses his admiration and need for Reki in more overt ways, Reki tends to hide his struggles and insecurities, which at times creates emotional distance. Their dynamic leans more towards admiration and personal growth than deep codependence.

While there aren’t overt romantic physical gestures, their body language and frequent proximity (like skating together and often emotional literal flying-bodies-on-the-ground hugs) show a lot of closeness. Their skateboarding together, sharing intimate experiences like teaching and encouraging one another, could be interpreted as a form of touch. But also once they shared a skateboard ;) Like, how gay is that? rofl xD

Emotional Intimacy: ★★★★★ Their emotional connection is the heart of their relationship. They provide each other with significant emotional support, and the anime highlights moments of vulnerability, particularly as Reki works through feelings of inadequacy while Langa seeks connection. Langa, a former snowboarder, relies on Reki to rediscover his love for -boarding (now skateboarding) after moving from Canada, while Reki finds confidence in Langa’s presence and validation in their friendship. Langa’s conversation with his mom, where he blushes while discussing his crush on Reki, further highlights the depth of their emotional bond. Reki and Langa openly support and encourage each other, creating a strong foundation for emotional intimacy. They have a close, supportive friendship with many moments of emotional vulnerability. Their emotional bond is built on a strong foundation of deep mutual care and admiration.

Obsession/Codependence: ★★★★☆ There are elements of obsession, especially on Langa’s side, as he becomes fixated on skating with Reki and their shared bond. Their relationship also affects their self-worth and happiness, which speaks to a subtle codependence. Langa cannot perform well without Reki, who is his main reason for skating. When they drift apart, their emotional turmoil is palpable, especially for Reki, who struggles with feelings of inadequacy. They lean on each other for emotional support and personal growth, though for Reki it doesn't cross into full-blown obsession or unhealthy codependency. Because the obsession/codependence is a little bit 1-sided, they get 4 stars instead of 5.

Reki sacrifices his time and energy to help Langa become a better skater, even when it impacts his own self-confidence. Meanwhile, Langa shows his deep affection by trying to bring Reki back into the fold after they drift apart. Both make sacrifices to maintain their friendship and emotional bond, though these are more emotional than life-threatening. Reki sacrifices his confidence and emotional security for Langa's sake, as he struggles with feelings of inferiority. Langa also makes emotional sacrifices by never flaunting how much better of a skater he is. Langa also takes Reki’s jealousy without retaliation or anger, only deep sadness. They each compromise and grow from their relationship, making personal sacrifices for the sake of their bond. While their sacrifices are more emotional than physical, they’re still significant.

During this fight, it was even raining. What a het trope, lol. Fighting in the rain... XD This was completely intentional.

Chemistry: ★★★★★ Their chemistry is undeniable, with a mix of playful banter, deep emotional support, and moments of jealousy and longing. Whether skating together or simply interacting, their dynamic is magnetic, and their friendship feels full of unspoken tension and affection. The chemistry between Reki and Langa is electric, with strong emotional tension and moments of clear admiration. Their relationship balances moments of fun and lightheartedness with deep emotional conflict and resolution, making their connection dynamic and impactful. The fact that fans—and even the creator—acknowledge Reki’s love-at-first-sight moment highlights the romantic potential. The dynamic between them is filled with tension and warmth, as they balance moments of fun, teasing, and heartfelt connection. Their bond drives much of the emotional intensity in the series, with their skateboarding journey acting as a metaphor for their relationship. (The show is mostly about their relationship, with skateboarding as a side/distraction lol)

How Canon?: ★★★★☆ 4.5 Renga falls into the semi-canon category, with the creator’s commentary and Langa’s blushing reaction to his mom asking about his feelings for Reki. The romantic subtext is strong, and there’s creator intent to show Reki and Langa’s relationship in a romantic light. The creator openly discussed Reki’s admiration for Langa from the start. However, despite these clear hints and the romantic subtext, there’s no explicit confirmation of their relationship on-screen, keeping it from being fully canon for now. Nonetheless, the anime provides more than enough material to consider them as a semi-canon romantic pairing.

During episode 8, while Langa's mom was asking him about why he seemed so down in the dumps, his mom related his story to an experience she once had, presumably about his dad. Because of that, she tells him it would be better if he was honest about his feelings. She asks him to confirm, (in both English and Japanese dubs), "You like this person, don't you?" Langa replies with a shocked yet toned down blush, and eventually Utsumi (the creator) confirmed he does romantically like "this person" (Reki). During that same episode, in the original Japanese dub, his mom says it as "Sukina ndesyo?" which translates to what the English sub or dub said. The word "Suki" In Japanese means "like", however, in contexts like this, it translates to "romantic love."

2. Series: Harry Potter--Book!Drarry (Draco Malfoy & Harry Potter)

Before reading the books, I thought Drarry was a total crack ship & I didn't like movie!Draco. I thought he was a simple bully. I read the books for Snape x Lily. But Snily ship sunk faster than the Titanic, and in its place was this glorious OTHER! Drarry actually has a ton of textual evidence/support & I couldn't deny the gay anymore lool.

Tons of Intimate Moments (in the official last installment, the play HPCC--Harry Potter & The Cursed Child (which focuses on Harry & Draco's sons Scorbus (who is also on this list). Most of the fandom hates HPCC, but it's the book with one of the best drarry so I'll gladly take it lol.)

JKR (the TERF) randomly hates Draco, & she hates the ship. BUT: I compiled the Drarry Bible, a 98k word doc of all the Drarry scenes/how they are accidental literal soulmates! Read first if you're mad about smthn I said (even if you've read the series—many Drarry shippers have been stunned by its contents). I have text proof!

Cons:

Never becomes canon—it's mostly fan interpretation of the canon text where JKR accidentally writes them out as utterly in love. I was never looking for the gay with Drarry. I disliked Draco, I was there for the Snily. Why would I want Harry with his bully? The gay ran me over.

Very little physical intimacy, though the emotional intensity is powerful and the times they do have physical intimacy are very profound.

Obsession & Codependence:

Obsession levels are extremely high for both characters. Draco spends a good chunk of the series fixated on Harry, while Harry reciprocates by fixating on Draco’s every move (even when he's not being suspicious, which is most of the time). The fact that they stare at each other, know each other’s habits, and even unintentionally hurt themselves due to this obsession solidifies this. Codependence emerges in how much they seem to thrive on this rivalry and attention from each other. Their mutual fixation and obsession with each other feel incredibly intense, with shades of romantic tension, especially given how the entire school, even staff, pick up on it. Their obsession feels very queer-coded, even if not canonically romantic. Draco spends five out of seven books completely fixated on Harry (even in books where he's not like The Half-blood Prince & Deathly Hallows, there's still plenty of gay)! And Harry is obsessed with Draco in return.

From the Drarry Bible:

They are constantly staring at each other for no good reason (like all the way across the Great Hall during lunches). They shout at each other all the way across the Great Hall too, making their obsession obvious for the whole school (because the whole school has same lunch period). They are literal walking encyclopedias of the other. Draco talks about Harry constantly to anyone who would listen (Harry is his favorite topic...), and thus the whole school knows about his big gay crush on Harry, including the staff, his parents (especially his father who told him to STFU about Harry since he was talking about Harry literally all summer lmao), and even Voldemort was highly suspicious in the last book, to Draco's father's horror. Harry is equally obsessed over Draco, so much so that he gets hospitalized because he’s thinking about Draco too much during a Quidditch match and gets hit. Also, the staff, Draco’s mother, and Ron’s dad knows about Harry’s crush on Draco (Ron’s dad is amused by it)… Draco is so obsessed over Harry that he makes ‘Potter stinks’ badges and charms enough for all 3 Houses and gives them out for FREE! (He's his own personal Harry Potter fanclub..) And Harry, despite pretending to be furious, secretly kept one! (He brought it home and kept it under the bed with the rest of his special souvenirs from school lolololol I can't even with this!) Their last encounter before that school year was out (his only time to be able to have taken a Potter Stinks badge) was even another argument with Draco on the train.. Lmaao! And all along, little did Draco know, Harry had a badge tucked away on his person. And brought it home with him. And it still works even years later because that’s how much care Draco put into making them (who does this??) And there’s no way you would put all that effort into doing it for someone you’re not totally crushing on but talk about constantly and watch all the time and use every excuse in the book to try to talk to. Like one year he even faked an arm injury and then later admitted to Harry he was just trying to get Harry to help him out in their class. So he kept complaining until Snape finally gave him Harry as a lab partner. XD This gay, I swear.

2. Chemistry:

Rating: 5/5

The enemies-to-something dynamic creates a palpable push-pull tension. Draco’s teasing and Harry’s confused reactions lead to charged moments, and their chemistry seems more alive than with other characters. The emotional and physical energy between them is notable and strong. Draco teases Harry constantly because he's upset Harry rejected his friendship (this was confirmed by Draco himself in his confession to Harry in HPCC). Harry confusing anger for arousal (he'll be "mad" but stares constantly, never agree with Ron when Ron makes fun of Draco's looks or wishes ill on him, & immediately perks up at any mention of Draco's name bc Draco is also secretly his fave topic lol). Draco’s teasing, and their back-and-forth feels emotionally charged and reads like many classic queer-coded rivalries. The push-pull, enemies-to-something dynamic is strong. Draco and Harry have a charged energy whenever they’re around each other. As Draco smirks-winks at him, Harry sometimes acts the part of the 'blushing maiden' with Ron to defend him. His face flushes, and he gets really quiet sometimes. One time Harry was standing towards the front of the school and all the other kids were standing too, but Harry was wondering where Draco was, so he turned his head and looked for him as Dumbledore was speaking, and Draco was sitting instead of standing, and staring straight ahead. So Draco obviously sees Harry just try to find him and Harry just turns back to the front after finding Draco (which totally gave himself away). That's like, so fucking embarrassing. JKR said Ginny was meant to represent his dead mother Lily, which is why like Lily, Ginny has flaming red hair. (Kinda creepy to make the wife physically look like the mom, but okay.) Not to mention, with Ginny's family, which is Ron's family since Ginny is Ron's little sister, the family basically adopted Harry in as their own, making them Harry's first 'real' family. This suggests that his connection with Ginny is more about emotional security than romantic passion, which explains why he's never truly as obsessed with her as with Draco. Their het romance was so sudden and lacking in passion that some fans theorize Ginny used a love potion. (Literally, Harry had a bigger girl crush on Cho than he ever did Ginny.) Harry & Draco’s obsession with each other is love-potion extreme all throughout the series (the way Harry would be with Draco would almost feel like the way Ron would describe his feelings this one time Ron accidentally took a love potion). In HPCC, they are friends and without even being there for their intimate 1v1 talks, they must be acting so friendly because Ron points out that they’re so “chummy-chummy” now! And their Quidditch matches became like their impromptu dates that they both looked forward to. (Harry was hospitalized bc Draco was skipping his matches that year, so during a match with Hufflepuff, he was thinking about where Draco could be and that's when he was hit. (Everything I say are book passages--feel free to search them up in the Drarry Bible above.)

3. Sacrifices:

Rating: 5/5

Both make significant sacrifices for each other, risking not just their lives but the well-being of loved ones. Draco’s risking the lives of himself and his family’s for Harry is particularly telling given JKR confirmed that nothing is more important to him than family (except Pottah I guess *snicker*)! While Harry repeatedly saves Draco, even risking the lives of himself and his two besties who are like his own family (of course Harry is an orphan and has no living blood relatives except the Dursleys, so the few found family he has are everything to him…..) During the Battle of Hogwarts, Draco saves his life from his two friends, screaming “DON’T KILL HIM! DON’T KILL HIM!” (Draco rarely ever screams) and of course when Draco needs rescuing immediately after, Harry is the first one there!! Even as Ron screams that if they die, he’ll kill Harry lol. So Harry risks the lives of his two best friends to fly back in and rescue his big gay crush. He rescues Draco while his friends get Goyle. Harry honestly didn’t give a shit about Draco's friends, he was going straight for Draco. If he’d really cared about rescuing the one in most need, he would’ve gone for Goyle first who was in much worse shape….. Or Crabbe. Crabbe ended up dying in the fire. 😓

Though this doesn’t cement a romantic relationship, the emotional investment is high. Sacrificing one’s life or risking safety of other loved ones for each other shows deep emotional ties. The risk-taking for each other’s sake has undertones of devotion that could easily be read as a more-than-platonic connection. Harry's repeated acts of saving Draco’s life, even putting his best friends at risk, and Draco's willingness to risk his family's safety for Harry, show a profound level of sacrifice. The fact that both characters are willing to risk everything for each other, including their lives and the well-being of loved ones, underscores the magnitude of their sacrifices and devotion. Draco’s intense vulnerability in HPCC further emphasizes the depth of their emotional connection. Draco shows an intense vulnerability in the final book, opening the door for an emotional connection for HPCC. Unlike the movies, he never goes to Voldemort’s side in the end. He chooses Harry’s side, even though Harry’s side isn’t his parent’s side. He does this because he soon realized in book 6 that he can’t stomach violence (unlike James Potter—Harry’s violent bully of a father who was planning the murder of a fellow student but backed out last minute), but also I’m sure Harry being over on that side pushed him over the edge. Even during the duel from HPCC, where Draco initiated it as he was trying to get Harry to allow their gay sons to be together, Draco didn’t really want to hurt Harry. His attack spells were mild, much less lethal than his spells during school in their duels (like, Harry used two spells: tickle & forced dancing... while Draco used spells that shoved Harry and etc etc.. it was all very mid).

4. Emotional Intimacy:

So Draco always wants to use every excuse to talk to Harry. That's why every single year on the train (except the 6th book, there was no 7th year since Harry went on the run that year), Draco would go meet up with Harry to talk to him before school starts probably because he missed him over the summer. awwwww LOL. And in the year Draco didn't go to him, Harry put on an invisibility cloak and went to Draco, because Draco, a 16 yo kid (mind you, in HP, 17 is legal adult age), went shopping without his mother! And this going shopping alone made Harry so suspicious of Draco and Harry's two friends were with him the whole time, but neither of them thought it was that suspicious and they literally get so sick of Harry talking about Draco non-stop that year that they tune him out. Harry proceeds to use a magical map to track all of Draco's movements that year, going as far as ducking into bathroom stalls to check where Draco is. LMAO! These boys will be the end of me... -,-; HPCC adds fuel with their intimate conversations where Draco confesses his true feelings about their school rivalry—that he just wanted to be besties with Harry & was jealous of Ron & Hermione because they got to be Harry’s friends while he had to force his way into Harry’s life through mean teasing just to be able to talk to him! Their interactions go far beyond what we see in Harry’s interactions with many other characters in the play, and now that they’re adults and civil, the depth of their bond escalated like wildfire, which leaves the audience wondering how much closer they would get after the play when they’re now actual friends! Considering their innate obsession with one another and need to be close….. And the fact that Harry and Draco are both pretty queer-coded gay men.... (The books are told from 1st POV so we know exactly what Harry was feeling and who he kept staring at, and he was definitely never staring at Ginny....)

Emotional intimacy is often a hallmark of romantic or queer connections. The vulnerability Draco shows and the fact that he was so obsessed with becoming friends with Harry shows a deeper connection than rivalry. In HPCC, Draco admitted to Harry that he was never jealous of his fame, just his friends. Naturally, Ron got to be friends with Harry, so that's why Draco had such a hatred for him.

Harry knows Draco better than anyone else, even though Draco is really good at hiding his feelings with occlumency (the magic of closing one's mind against mind reading, which requires a strong ability to hide feelings). Harry is the only one who can still see past it despite the fact that they’re not even friends. Likewise, Draco knows Harry really well and is the only one to know Harry well enough that he knew Harry wouldn’t attack those students in Chamber of Secrets during a time when most of the school suspected Harry. He also knew that Harry wasn’t the heir of Slytherin despite most of the wizarding world, including his dad who he idolizes, thinking Harry must’ve been some dark wizard in order to blast Voldemort away as a baby.

In HPCC, Draco was the one who was most worried for Harry when Harry volunteered to go confront Voldemort (I cannot make this up, he was literally panicking like how he does in fanfics.... llol like aww so sweet), and Harry was the one Draco was most worried about, despite the fact that Harry was the head of the DMLE (Department of Magical Law Enforcement—Head Auror) AND the only one to have repeatedly gone face to face with Voldemort & lived of all the people there (Ron, Harry, Hermione, Draco, and their gay 14 year old sons).

Harry worries endlessly about Draco when he knows Draco is in a tight spot. They are soulmates, one half of the same whole. They are the only two who really know what the other went through in regards to Voldemort. Harry saved Draco in more ways than one. In HPCC, they had far more special moments with each other than with literally anyone else in the play, far more than Harry with his wife (Draco’s wife died of illness at the beginning of the play).

In the books, Harry was never really attracted to any of the girls. His biggest girl crush was Cho (crush on Ginny/wife doesn’t even come close so the fandom never talks about her because there’s barely any book quotes to bounce off of!), but even that crush paled in comparison to his obsession over Draco. Even though Cho's table was closer to his, he'd never look at her during lunches... He'd look right over her to look at Draco.................. YUP. This is why Drarry is such a huge ship. JKR was not subtle.... yet she claims Drarry is all in our heads! In Harry's internal monologue, he was mostly checking out other guys, but mostly Draco. Literally all the guys he thought were handsome had Dracos’s eye color! 🤔 Sus much? LMAO. There was no guy he found attractive that did NOT have Draco’s eye color.

In HPCC, Draco was so quick to forgive Harry (he was mad enough that he went to Harry's house and started fighting him and they fucked up the kitchen by throwing chairs etc.. & generally reverting back to their schoolboy days!!! lmao), even though Harry never apologized! They have such soft spots for one another, and Harry is always just as fast to forgive, esp in school. v_v

The depth of their connection is highlighted by their intimate conversations in HPCC, and in all the books, their deep understanding, and concern for each other. Their interactions go beyond typical rivalry, displaying vulnerability, trust, and a soulmate-like bond. The way they save and forgive each other, along with their unique understanding of one another’s experiences w Voldemort. Everything thus far suggests an extraordinary level of emotional intimacy that Harry doesn't even have with Ron. Ron and Harry are like, BFFs, but Draco is like the boyfriend/lover. Different types of closeness. They have a profound, unspoken connection where they are drawn to each other like moths to a flame, coupled with the significant moments shared between them.

In the main books, Harry went to fight Voldemort with Draco’s stolen wand that he didn’t officially win in a duel. Wands are a wizard’s heart & soul. And also Draco’s wand was unicorn-core, meaning it’s extremely loyal. Harry shouldn't have been able to get it to work, but Draco’s wand was friendly towards Harry, unlike Draco’s maniacal aunt Bellatrix’s wand. So, because Draco’s wand, along with Harry, defeated Voldemort, Harry was basically fighting Voldemort with Draco’s heart and soul. Aawweeeee. Gayeest battle lmao, and just like that, DRARRY saved the day/world! The wand was only friendly with Harry because it could sense that Draco truly cared for Harry…. 😏 In HPCC, Harry and Draco talk as friends for the first time, and Draco stops calling him 'Potter,' while never once using Ron's first name lol. Draco is also the only one able to get through to Harry on a topic that not even Ginny or McGonagall could. They bond and their moments together are so electric, unlike any other relationship in the play aside from their gay sons.

5. Touchy-Feely:

Rating: 2.5/5

There’s little physical touch beyond duels and Quidditch, where Draco’s physical attacks seem to have an undertone of excitement (like literally in HPCC.. where Harry used a tickle spell on Draco and also a dancing spell....LMAO XD like.. bruh... just ask him for dance lmao). Physical intimacy is minimal but emotionally charged. The touchiness is more indirect, stemming from aggressive physicality, but in the context of their obsession, it seems like Draco gets some satisfaction from the physical encounters. When Harry rescued Draco from the fiendfyre, Draco was “holding Harry so tightly it hurt” and shouting in his ear. ;) lmaoooo. How.... intimate.

While physical touch is minimal, the moments that do occur are emotionally charged and hold significance, particularly in the context of their interactions. Draco would always try to hit him during their Quidditch matches because he seemed to get off on any sort of touch with Harry. The touch is more about tension, aggression, and heightened emotion rather than tenderness, but it still conveys a sense of intimacy, especially in moments like the fiendfyre rescue.

6. How canon?

While Drarry is not canonically confirmed as a romantic relationship, the strong obsession, chemistry, and emotional intimacy make it a compelling interpretation for many. Their secret love is definitely real in their world, since JKR wrote them that way--as closet gays by total accident, but the official canon does not explicitly confirm their romantic connection. ;_;

Chemistry: ��★★★★ 5/5 The chemistry between Hannibal and Will is both terrifying and compelling. Their intellectual sparring, emotional vulnerability, and seductive manipulation create a deep, electrifying connection. Dean later got flashbacks of this, as it traumatized him. (Dean was not in a good place. He was battling the Mark of Cain, which he willingly took on to save the world, as he, being so selfless and self-sacrificing, tends to do.) Their obsession with each other drives many of the show's conflicts, creating an undeniable codependency. They often live/travel together and are total husbands! Their lives revolve around each other. They (along with Sam) raise an adopted newborn son together in their bunker/permanent home, and the son calls them his “three dads.” 🥺 Very domestic! (Their infant son is 2 by series finale but chose to come into the world in the body of a 27-year-old man—the same age as Jensen/Dean in season one, because he knew otherwise he wouldn't be safe. Castiel’s sacrifices are larger in scale than Dean's, often costing Cas everything. Castiel's arc is defined by his devotion to Dean, making him one of the most selfless characters in the series. Cas literally died for Dean—multiple times. Cas throws away all of heaven/his family that he’s known since the beginning of time all for Dean. Dean has repeatedly shown emotional vulnerability and trust towards Cas, which is significant given Dean’s mega-guarded ‘macho’ nature. This emotional openness often puts Dean at risk of emotional pain and betrayal (Dean has secretly cried many times over Cas, and this man doesn't cry!) Dean has said that he considers praying to be begging, but yet he prays to Cas all the time, especially when they can't be together, or are in the middle of an argument and are physically separated. Dean’s dedication to Cas sometimes strained his relationships with others, including his brother Sam, and led to conflicts. Arthur lights up around Merlin in a way he never does with anyone else, including his wife, Gwen. The high school AU vibes are real—they bicker, laugh, have a deep emotional connection, and have an undeniable pull towards each other. The tension between them, combined with their loyalty and the way they light up around each other, creates an undeniable spark that draws viewers in. Their palpable tension makes their relationship feel very much like a secret castle romance, which is what it basically was as confirmed in the commentary. Their unspoken understanding and constant presence in each other’s lives create a chemistry that’s magnetic and endearing. Unspoken yet undeniable. Well, others speak of their bond, just not them most of the time (though in their intimate moments, they do, too!) Merlin’s secrecy prevents the relationship from being entirely transparent, meaning Arthur doesn't fully know who Merlin is. While Merlin harbors this secret, Arthur bares his entire soul to Merlin, his best friend, and tells him everything. He trusts Merlin with his life, and Merlin trusts him (aside from the magic part). This limitation keeps them from achieving the ultimate level of emotional closeness, despite their otherwise strong connection. From lingering gazes (SO MUCH EYESEX--there's 23 minutes of eyesex in a 65 episode show), and shared vulnerabilities (Merlin does share his vulnerabilities with Arthur, just not the magic), their connection feels deeply personal. They are each other's #1 best friend. These moments go far beyond any other relationship either has in the show, creating a profound, unspoken closeness that is intimate in both the emotional and physical sense. Arthur tells Merlin everything, unlike with his sweet wife Gwen. He is able to truly be himself around Merlin. For Arthur, due to the way he was raised, everything has an order. With Gwen, he is always super formal/polite. Basically, she is not his friend. He has put her squarely in the "wife" category. Merlin is supposed to be put in "servant" category but Merlin becomes his actual dearest best friend, a category none of his knights touch, since his knights are put in "knights" category. He expects his knights to die for him, he expects Gwen to always be supportive & loving. He expected Merlin to listen to him and respect him, but Merlin is, as Arthur puts it, "Well, you've been terrible. I mean it. Worst servant I've ever had." Even being such a terrible servant, Arthur refuses to fire him, even upset when Merlin goes missing so they find an actual GOOD & perfect servant, George (who hilariously even dresses up as Merlin).

So as Merlin keeps from Arthur the most vital thing about himself, Arthur confides in him more than anyone else, showing trust and vulnerability that he doesn't share even with his wife. He calls Merlin his friend. For context of how special this is, he doesn't even consider his knights his friends.. Even in season 4 finale (14 episodes from the series finale) he told Merlin that Merlin was still his "only friend." The physical comfort and emotional intensity between them, along with creator and cast commentary referring to their relationship as a love story, suggest that their bond is romantic in nature, even if it was never fully confirmed on-screen. Even though for most of the show, Merlin keeps such a vital part of himself from Arthur, since in the end, he did reveal himself (& I'm rating based off of how the relationship left off), these two get a full 5 stars.

Arthur relies on Merlin for everything, from making major decisions to simply getting dressed in the mornings (I truly wonder how he did this before Merlin. One time when Merlin was gone, Arthur had to ask the Court Physician for help with putting on a shirt & he ended up getting stuck in it, then ripped the shirt......... -______-;). As his wife Gwen was helping him with his armor, Arthur said, sounding very frustrated and like a petulant toddler, "I want Merlin back. Where is he?" ;u; Merlin feels the need to follow Arthur everywhere, even while gravely injured. Merlin was still begging not to be taken back home despite barely being able to speak, but thankfully after Lancelot took Merlin and the two made their way back, Merlin was able to heal himself midway. Then he and Lancelot caught up with Arthur and the other knights again!

Arthur relies on Merlin more than any other person, often over his more experienced knights or even his wife. Their bond is so strong it becomes unhealthy. Their trust and devotion to one another are undeniable. Arthur’s dependence is extreme. Arthur literally takes Merlin on his dates with him and Gwen and even had Merlin hide behind curtains for when he proposed to Gwen. -______-; This is NOT NORMAL. That song "Me you and Steve" is literally THEM (and comments all agreed that animatic is basically the show in a nutshell--it even uses actual show scenes)! Poor Gwen. ;u; Arthur couldn't remember the anniversary of his wedding even though Merlin reminded him the day before, and also, regarding his courting of Gwen:

"He sends Merlin to gather flowers for her, to prepare the date for them, etc. It's not genuine, and this is a boring and chemistry-less relationship. I especially laughed when there was a plot of Gwen being basically replaced by an evil twin. Merlin noticed it almost right away while Arthur didn't, even though they spent weeks together, sharing a bed, having conversations, and so on. He didn't realize the love of his life was replaced!" ~K_S_Morgan

The fact that Arthur instantly knows when Merlin is upset but doesn't notice that his wife hates him for weeks.... He noticed and counted how many days since Merlin smiled! This King has priorities I guess…. LMAO! It shows he's not super oblivious, he just pays attention to things he cares about..... Whenever Merlin is more withdrawn, Arthur always notices and tries to cheer him up. He clearly wouldn't notice if it was Gwen.

You know who would have most definitely noticed 100%? Lancelot!!! Lancelot loved Gwen like Arthur could never. *now I'm trying to not cry* Lancelot and Gwen were soulmates in the same way Merlin and Arthur were. Lancelot would've put her first in all things he did. He was loyal to Arthur because of Merlin, so he would've most definitely put her above ALL else if they'd been allowed to be together. But the show forced her character to stay with Arthur, a gay man, simply because that's the way it was in the legends. Otherwise, the showrunners put zero effort into making their love story believable. It was obvious the aim of the show wasn’t Arthur/Gwen, but Merthur. They said it themselves. They showed a bit of Gwen/Arthur because it is an important part of the legend, but otherwise, that was it. No effort otherwise. Such a disservice to their characters.

Once, when Arthur was on a nice romantic picnic date with Gwen, he told her that he always wanted to run far away from Camelot....... and then he said, "Of course, I'd take Merlin with me." WHAT THE ACTUAL FLUCK. He never once implies she would go with him. Who says this to their date? ???? ??????????? Its just common courtesy to say at least your date can go too lool. but he was not having it XD Once she's queen, all the courting is out (because he was doing such a stellar job at that lol). He settles into the boring married couple routine, and season 5 is also when all gay breaks loose. (He and Gwen got married in the last episode of season 4.)

Arthur and Merlin’s obsession with each other is off the charts. Arthur listens to Merlin more than anyone else. Merlin stopped Arthur from marrying Princess Elena after Gwen, who Arthur was in the talking stage with at the time, tried unsuccessfully to stop it. Literally one word from Merlin was all it took for Arthur to stand the princess up at the alter. 😐 Arthur’s reliance on Merlin is intense, and they clearly cannot bear to be apart. This is Sam/Dean Winchester-on-steriods codependence. Their bond is a constant force in the show, making it central to the plot and their lives.

They are utterly devoted to one another, and Arthur trusts Merlin more than anyone else. These two spent BY FAR the most time together of all mentioned ships. They could not live w/o each other, codependent to extremely unhealthy levels. They had to spend practically every moment together good grief. Very angry/upset when apart for even just a day. Especially Arthur. Arthur is always shouting at Merlin to be next to him when he notices Merlin has lagged behind, even when they're in the castle, and Merlin would roll his eyes but have the biggest most dopey grin and run after him. They are always at each other's sides, even on epic quests that require Arthur to go "alone and unaided." Merlin is like an extension of himself, ofc Merlin would go! LOL. If I could, I'd give them 10 out of 5 stars for obsession tbh.

*SPOILERS FOR THE END* Arthur literally cannot function without Merlin. His obsession with Merlin's presence, combined with Merlin’s unwavering loyalty, creates an intensely close and often codependent dynamic. In many ways, Merlin needs Arthur too, and without Arthur, Merlin just wanders until he's able to be with Arthur again, no matter how many hundreds or thousands of years pass. Merlin will wander around that same lake where he put Arthur to rest. ;~; If that's not codependent, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS! Not to mention, in that lake/Avalon, Arthur is just waiting for Merlin to need him again so that he can come back to life. CODEPENDENT TO A TEE! Both Merlin and Arthur make profound sacrifices for each other that go beyond typical devotion. Merlin sacrifices everything—his entire life’s purpose, dreams, chance at a normal life, his humanity—all for Arthur, consistently putting Arthur’s safety above his own happiness, goals, and desires to end the ban on magic (lifting the ban was supposed to be more important than Arthur, his ultimate goal of the series was to lift the ban in order to unite all of Albion, but Merlin never got the memo). Merlin sacrifices his emotional well-being by living in secrecy even though it causes him personal pain.

Arthur, in return, sacrifices his pride, royal expectations, a sense of propriety, and adherence to social norms by elevating Merlin to a position of trust and power that goes far beyond what is appropriate in the class-strict society they live in. Arthur often treats Merlin as his equal and his life partner despite the massive class divide. The level of trust and emotional vulnerability Arthur shows toward Merlin is profound, especially in trusting him with decisions that even his knights and advisors don’t influence, showing how much he is willing to sacrifice for their bond. Arthur was willing to sacrifice everything his father had warned him about magic and lift the ban, if only Merlin had agreed (naturally he asked Merlin for his opinion on such a serious topic)! But unfortunately, since Merlin thought doing so would cost Arthur his life, Merlin with great sadness, said that all magic was evil.

Arthur’s vulnerability and complete trust in Merlin challenged everything he was raised to believe, and Merlin consistently chose Arthur over his own needs. This was the ultimate demonstration of mutual sacrifice.

One time Arthur was forced to order Merlin back to Camelot bc Merlin couldn't even walk due to his injuries. Arthur was not happy about having to send him away and seemed pretty distraught, eyes red-rimmed and tearful. Arthur almost abandoned the quest, even though one of his knights reminded him that if they abandoned the quest, hundreds more would perish. If not for Lancelot offering to take Merlin back, Arthur would have abandoned the quest, sacrificing hundreds of his people's lives, all for Merlin! When Arthur finds out the truth about Merlin’s magic, he wasn’t angry about the illegal magic, he was only hurt that Merlin felt he couldn’t trust him. Despite the imbalance in the scale of sacrifices, both characters show an overwhelming willingness to give up significant parts of themselves for the sake of the other (if Arthur had known about the magic sooner, he would’ve been able to do his part in sacrificing more for Merlin). Merlin constantly sacrifices everything for Arthur. Arthur sacrifices his royal status by treating Merlin as a trusted confidant/"husband"/"other woman", so much so that his actual wife becomes more like the mother he never had (he gives her chaste kisses, doesn't let her truly in like he does Merlin. At one point she casually says, "Arthur never tells me anything.”) Merlin, a mere servant, starts ordering the knights around as early as season 2, something that only the ‘other woman’ would ever be able to do! This swapping of roles challenges social norms and his strict upbringing, where his father drills it into his head that royalty cannot consort with those of lower rank. This bond often puts Arthur in vulnerable positions where he places Merlin’s advice above that of his much more experienced knights and advisors, despite the fact that Arthur is always calling Merlin an idiot. If idiot, why listen to all major decisions? Arthur is clearly smitten.

*SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT IN THIS SECTION*

The final sacrifices they both make: Merlin waits over a thousand years, five hundred for Arthur to rise again for him, since after 1500+ years, Merlin's the last remaining piece of Albion. And Arthur is in Avalon, waiting for the day Merlin will finally need him again. 😭 (In the show, they have ghosts, & Merlin put Arthur’s body in the lake with Freya, whom Merlin was still able to talk to now and then.)

5. Touchy-Feely Levels: ★★★★★ 5/5 stars

There’s a clear sense of physical comfort between the two that you don’t even see in Arthur’s canonical romantic relationships. The contrast between Arthur's comfort with Merlin versus his awkwardness around his wife Gwen suggests that Merlin and Arthur share a deeper physical comfort level.

Merlin and Arthur's "touchy-feely" levels are high, with frequent touches--from regularly bathing Arthur to falling asleep next to him, moments of deep physical proximity, like humping each other while making highly suggestive noises then falling asleep curled up together in that net, constant touching through roughhousing, close physical proximity, and they even held hands a total of six times (in 1 scene, it was 4 times in one setting as they were fleeing). Even though they only hug once (Merlin: "Hugging is… for amateurs?" Lmao. Versus what else they do, yes, yes, *Arthur cracks his knuckles* Arthur: "Hugging very much is for amateurs!"), with constant physical contact reinforcing their emotional connection, their touchy-feely levels are some of the highest (all they need to do now is copulate tbh 🥴 which they will guarantee do once Arthur is out of Avalon and back with Merlin!)

Here they humped each other to sleep (the close-up shots were super sexual too, but I wanted to post this panned-out view so yall can see what they were really doing):

Merlin also bathes Arthur regularly. We have zero canon proof other than assumptions that his wife's ever even seen him naked... Cue the scene where he walks out naked expecting Merlin but sees Gwen, his actual fiance, and the first thing he says is (notice he's covering himself with a pillow presumably because she's never seen him unclothed):

And then afterward, he basically runs away. He isn't a teenager but a grown ass man. Gwen is supposedly his "one true love." Make it make sense. He used to always sleep shirtless but once he married her, he only slept with his shirt on…… How.. strange. It’s really no wonder Gwen never got pregnant in all the four years they were together. There's a random rumor that she was infertile, but I've watched the show multiple times and never is this supposed "infertility" mentioned (if it was, I'd know). I think they simply were not sleeping together due to the king being a flaming homosexual for his manservant. (literally who is surprised?) Merlin & Arthur only hug once throughout the series, but the other things they do more than makeup for their lack of hugs. Oh, & Arthur is absolutely fixated on Merlin's butt and Merlin is fixated on Arthur's crotch.... (I have pages of tags just of all the times these two were fixated on one another's butts & crotches..) These two have serious issues and need to just fuck it out already.

In the very last episode, Arthur mouthed 'I love you' along with the two almost-kisses (first time they were staring at each other's lips & the show's default romantic theme song was playing in the background--music choices are always intentional; second time Arthur was dying & he tried tugging Merlin's face in, but he died mid-kiss).

Julian Murphy, one of the creators, openly refers to the relationship as a “love story between two men,” to which Katie McGrath (Morgana) responded, “You maybe just confirmed what a lot of people [shippers] thought.”

Alexander Vlahos (Mordred) referred to their love as a "brilliant love story" and an official ad for the DVD boxed set said, "There's much to recommend about this mythical hokum, but it's the droll, sweet love story between Arthur and Merlin that compels in the BBC's excellent fantasy series." Droll means 'funny' so it was essentially calling the show a romcom between Merlin & Arthur. 😂 Which perfectly describes it, actually!

Sparks fly at every sweet interaction between the two completely fluffy boys. The tension is less physical and more about their shared experiences and emotional vulnerability with each other. Their banter, affection, and overall chemistry carry through. Their interactions are filled with humor and warmth, which gives their relationship a unique charm compared to others in the series.

6. How Canon?: ★★★★★ 5 of 5 stars

Their feelings are confirmed by the playwrights and the script changes suggest romantic implications, including how Albus even comes out to his dad in the end confirming his love for Scorpius. The playwrights have said that the only reason they're not in a relationship is due to their ages (the characters are in 4th year whilst most romance in Harry Potter happens in 6th year). The playwright has stated that the queerness is very real. This is a queer high school love story in its early stages. ❤️ It's heavily implied that they oh-so-obviously got married (because in HP, marrying one's high school sweetheart is the norm) & therefore (& I'm sure they will just be thrilled!) Harry and Draco will be related through marriage at last (though not exactly in the way I want). 🫨

Thank you for the ask. I'll start with characters. This isn't in any particular order. There are a lot of headcanons here but those headcanons are mostly based on my interpretations of their canon characters. Also these are more characters and ships I think about most often rather than favourites because I struggle with favourites

Dazai Osamu from Bungou Stray Dogs

I've always liked morally grey and manipulative characters. There's something about a character who doesn't really care either way which side he's on. Good and bad aren't important. There's simply his people and the people coming after his people. I also ship him with so many characters both for angst purposes and genuine i think they'd be good together reasons.

2. Ranpo Edogawa from Bungou Stray Dogs

I promise this is not just a list of Bungou Stray Dogs characters. But, considering Ranpo and Dazai often fight for the spot of favourite Bungou Stray Dogs characters, not including him would feel wrong. No, i always liked Ranpo. I took one look at this genius with zero ability to survive the normal world on his own and, yeah, he was funny. Then the flashback episodes happening with Ranpo fully believing in the beginning that he's not special, that everyone can just notice these things and just pretend not to know and just not get it. Like that scene may have permanently altered something in my mind. Also, him trapping Chuuya in Poe's book was just great. We stan Ranpo here. It's good for the soul

3. Kageyama Tobio from Haikyuu

I don't think this is surprising. My pfp is Kageyama for a reason. And, yes, some of it definitely comes from some well-written angsty soulmate AU fics. But also my guy Tobio here i relate to in some way. I'm no major sports file. But i get it, communication is hard. I've spoken to people and had my tone come out moody when I didn't mean to. I've struggled to explain things. And for Kageyama, a lot of his problems come from the fact that he doesn't know how to communicate. He doesn't know how to explain how to improve because he's been playing so long it's instinctual. I think there's a scene in season 1 or season 2 where Nishinoya is trying to explain something to Hinata but he keeps using onomatopoeia so no one understands what he's saying... except Kageyama, who explains things in a similar way. But also he's actually so respectful of his upperclassmen and admires his fellow setters so much. Like, yes, he's confident, but he still wants to earn his place on the court, he still wants to earn his victories. He's still willing to listen to other people, especially other setters, and learn from them. Can he be rude? Yes. Does he mean to be? Most of the time, no. Even people like Tsukishima and Hinata, they talk to him first.

Also my inner Kageyama apologist demands I add, when I look beneath the surface of how he says things (the words that actually come out), what he says (what he means, what he's trying to say) isn't actually that mean or bad. He just doesn't get how people cant love basketball as much as him.

Oh look, a character from the first anime i ever watched. Listen, can this guy be kinda embarrassing when he's trying to be badass? Yes. But also, he's in middle school, we're all embarrassing at that age. Like i struggle to explain what it is about him specifically makes him my favourite. Maybe I'm sensing angst potential. Like I've written before how I could kinda see him and Karasuma becoming a little found family and Karasuma adopting him. I have headcanons that he secretly likes studying and learning but was bullied for it so learned to fight so he could defend himself and that lead to him becoming a delinquent. This isn't to say he doesn't enjoy fighting and breaking the rules, he does. We can all like more than one thing. I have ships with him, i ship him with Nagisa, i ship him with Gakushu Asano, him and Rio Nakamura as besties, a platonic ship. Just... there's so much potential and that's without bringing crossovers into the mix. I can still picture him in My Hero Academia

5. Reki Kyan from Sk8 The Infinity

Listen, if I wanted to, this could just become a list of Sk8 the Infinity characters so I'm limiting myself to my favourite, Reki. So i don't think it's hard to see there's not many happy, sunshine characters. But here he is, my ray of sunshine, the guy i just need to see loved and protected, the reason i can never like or forgive Adam (no hate to people who like him ofc). He hurt my sunshine physically. My sunshine was hurt mentally and emotionally. His self doubt won out. But you know what, I'll say it. The found family was found because of him, he was the heart that brought them together. He got Langa into skating and brought him to S, he jumped in Shadow's car and adopted him as his uncle, he stood up for Miya and became his older brother figure, he challenged Adam, which lead to Cherry and Joe giving him advice. And then the people at S get in his head, make him doubt himself, but Langa only seems to love skating when he's skating with him. It was a fanfic, a really good fanfic that's a whole series and i'm pretty sure one of the parts is called to Build a Mechanic. But it has a lot of Reki interacting with Cherry, which i don't see terribly often and getting his confidence back. But it points out he himself hasn't been skating long and is self taught, and it's not like he's bad at skating. Like, ugh, i love him. His angst makes me sad.

6. L from Death Note

He's the reason I watched Death Note, but I've said before that, before i knew what Death Note actually was and just heard the premise and saw the characters, i did think he was the one with the death note. I've mentoned AUs. Lawlight is a big factor but also him. A morally grey strange overly smart man child. I just wanna throw him in the Bungou Stray Dogs universe (with Light of course) and see what happens. Just watch him interact with Ranpo and Dazai and Fyodor. I want to throw him in a universe where there is no Death Note, the stakes are so low but him and Light treat it the same as they do their canon storyline. Maybe a school theatre or academic or professional rivalry. He's so unethical and I love it

7. Cale Henituse/Kim Rok Soo from Trash of the Count's Family / Lout of the Count's family.

First you can pry the name Trash of the Count's Family from my cold dead hands. That's how it was introduced to me and so that's its name for life in my head. Now the character. Ah the perils of caring too much. For people who haven't read this web novel, allow me to paint a picture. Imagine a guy who's transmigrated into a different world. He gathers multiple powers, meets main characters, turns antagonists to his side, becomes friends with leaders, gets involved in multiple wars, saves multiple people and adopts children and takes in strays. Now, imagine that same guy's main goal is to live a peaceful slacker life. Well that seems contradicting. Yep that's Cale Henituse after Kim Rok Soo transmigrate to become him. A walking talking contradiction, who leaves destruction and misunderstandings in his wake. He does the exact opposite of what he says he'll do. Wants to get rid of other characters? Adopts more. Wants to avoid war? In every battle. And the entire time he basically thinks he's the worst, greediest person to ever exist. He's so kind and so good and so giving and so in denial about all of it. He's so smart and powerful and yet wants nothing to do with that power beyond protecting his people

Wait, just realised it said 10 characters so 3 more. Let's go.

8.Nico Di Angelo from PJO, specifically the first 3 books he's in because that's all i've read. Badass 12 year old child of Hades who rocks up to a battle with 3 gods. Summons ghosts with McDonalds. Traumatised, good angst potential, lots of possible ships. Like he's still just a kid. A kid whose mom and sister died, whose dad is a god, who is 70 years in the future from when he was. Like, someone, anyone, please, love him, protect him. I don't care how powerful he is, that is a child. A child who could kill you with a snap of his fingers. But a child all the same. or at least a teenager but my point stands.

9. Natsusa Yuzuki from Number24. So manipulative. Such a little shit. So spoiled. So loved. So adored. There's something about loving a sport so much that you can't leave it even when you can't play because you're hurt. Also he just has this charm and he's so pretty. I can admit to being shallow to some extent. Like he's just a pretty, manipulative guy who has everyone wrapped around his finger and loves rugby. He is either a power bottom or a bratty sub, because i can't imagine him topping but I can imagine him as a mean dom to some people, who likes degradation and humiliation. Or a bratty sub who acts out so his top has to put him in his place. Also he's small and likes being manhandled a little.

10. Alastor from hazbin hotel. He's just a mystery. He's been gone from hell for years, he's not double dead, so where was he? Why is he back now? Who did he make a deal with? Who is he chained to? Lilith? Still doesn't explain where he was. And if not Lilith, who? Was he still in hell, just in one of the other rings? Was he out of hell entirely? How? Why? Why is he helping Charlie? Also him and Nifty are cute in like a platonic way, and him and Rosie are gossiping besties and he does seem capable of forming friendships and caring about people but it's a small list and even then I'm assuming he actually cares about Nifty, Though I will say his relationships with the female characters do seem healthier and more genuine than his relationships with the male characters. That could just be manipulation though. I'm pretty sure he's supposed to be a sociopath or psychopath, though i could be wrong. He's just so interesting

Okay this is ships. Ships are harder because there's a lot of ships I don't mind or like but no real "i need this" ships. But let's do it.

Lawlight from Death Note. Discussed this before in this post more detail. Is it toxic in canon? Yes. Is that part of why i ship it? Also yes. Look, for all i think of AUs where they actually work, either both being Kira or no death note, I was initially drawn to this for the canon. Chaining themselves together? Sharing a bed? L watching him on cameras? We don't need AUs. I can think of so many ideas for them in canon. Some kinky, others not. Some dark and angsty. I don't mind the idea of Misa being added but Lawlight is just fine for me, especially since I don't really ship L and Misa romantically, Though i do think them as besties could be fun. The Judas and Jesus parallels. God there's so much glorious potential. They can make each other worse.

Akutagawa x Dazai - Bungou Stray Dogs. Feel like people are gonna come for me for this one, I'm treading dangerous ground, and yet tread i must in honour of being honest. There are other Dazai ships I like, there are other Akutagawa ships I like. But this one, this one i wasn't expecting. Again i dare to ask is it toxic, and again i dare to say it is, and that's why. I felt guilty at first, then i remembered they're fictional. So wanting to see angst as Akutagawa worships Dazai and it becomes romantic and Dazai manipulates him with it. Akutagawa and Dazai with Dazai as a god figure and Akutugawa worshipping him. Listen even in the fluffiest of universes they'd still be unethical. Yandere Akutagawa meeting a Dazai who uses his yandereness to take out his enemies by flirting with them so Akutagawa kills them, until Akutagawa goes too far and kills someone Dazai cares about, maybe Oda somehow. This is where darkfics come in. Most of my ideas for them are dark and angsty. I know lots of people see them more familial but, even if they don't ever get together, in my head, Dazai was Akutagawa's first crush. Also Dazai purposely trying to make Akutagawa jealous. How obedient Akutagawa is for Dazai but how he will also go against his orders. Dom/sub, brat/brat tamer, gunplay, knifeplay. Also this is Bungou Stray Dogs, they're in the mafia, ethics and laws are unimportant here.

Karma Akabane x Asano gakushu from assassination classroom. Academic rivalry? Yes. Asano being annoyed because Karma doesn't seem to put in as much effort as him but still manages to beat him half the time? Yes. The taunts? Yes. Asano eventually finding out Karma's secret love of learning and studying? Yes. Bonding over shitty parents? Definitely. Asano finding out what went down with Korosensei. healing together. They love and hate each other. If True Love by Pink and Lily Allen was a couple. Again this is without getting into crossovers and AUs really. some headcanons but not really AU. Them competing in all areas and being equally matched. Them being a power couple. Their love language is making fun of each other but, also, headcanon/fic idea i thought of right now, Karma is secretly a pretty good chef. He makes something for Asano but they're still rivals so he can't just give it to him so he has to trick Asano into stealing it and then, when he does, he refuses to tell him where he got it. Asano only finds out when Nagisa accidentally lets it slip at some point and never lets Karma live it down but is secretly touched because he's not used to stuff like that. Them subtly caring for each other. Someone messes with them and they go full power couple and just destroy whoever it was in every way they can.

Reki Kyan x Langa Hasegawa from Sk8 the Infinity. Had to have these two here. Like there was no way I was doing this list and not mentioning this ship. Like all the reason i need is the scene where Langa thinks Reki didn't come to S and his heart just isn't in the race until Reki shouts his name. Like they just are the heart of the show. They care about each other so much. They'd be so soft towards each other, so loving, a truly sickening couple. But I need that.

Natsusa x Ibuki from Number24. Listen this ship list could just be ships with Natsusa from Number24 so easily, but this one. Natsusa sits on his crotch. Natsusa being a power bottom for Ibuki's service top (i think that's the term.) The size difference. The scene in the chapel. i think it's a chapel. I love religious imagery in ships. Not overly religious myself but there's something about partner worship. Ibuki being the reason Natsusa started playing rugby. It's so good. Like Number24 is basically one big polycule anyway. but these two, these two are it. Also Seiichirou. Add him in there too. Of all the polycule these three are it.

Todoroki Shoto x Bakugou Katsuki. This is mostly from fanfiction. I watched, like, one season of BNHA, though i do plan to watch the rest. But I've read some really good fics about them. Plus, i feel like Todoroki could bring some much needed calm to Bakugou. Also i feel like Todoroki doesn't fear his anger in the way others would and, actually, behind his sheltered upbringing he's a little shit who would love deliberately annoying Bakugou. Bakugo hates that he falls for Todoroki but, honestly, Todoroki's precious, everyone loves him, and Bakugou is just a man. He never stood a chance. And neither did Todoroki. They're an absolute power couple. They obliterate villains together. Or if they become villains or vigilantes just kick absolute ass. They both have a million fangirls. Katsuki lives to piss off Endeavour (whether Shouto forgives him or not). Also i need Todorkoki hanging out with the Bakusquad and learning internet slang and memes and being chaotic but is still very awkward and seems very stoic so no one suspects him.

Aomine Daiki and Kagami Taiga. I thought about it, who should be the last ship on the official list. In the end it could only be them. Kagami could very well be the person who makes Daiki fall in love with basketball again. They are rivals to friends to lovers. Each other's biggest competition. Supporters. Both so bad at feelings and too prideful. I don't know who falls first but they both fall hard and neither will admit it. They definitely sleep with each other multiple times before they're even friends and insist it will never happen again only to fall back into bed together. Also they're switches to me. Again there is possibility for a polycule but when i think ships i usually seek out in fanfics, it is them.

special mention: Kageyama Tobio x happiness. Couldn't decide on a specific ship because as long as he's happy, i don't care

DN Fic Recs!!

Aight, I think the Death Note fandom could use some positivity. And I wanna be positive :D! So here is a list of fics with reviews, aka a thinly-veiled excuse to wildly ramble about brilliant fics made by incredibly talented people. A lot of these works inspire me, so I want to share them with others! If these fics sound interesting to you, I highly recommend that you check them out and give the authors lots of love :D

Anyway, here we go!

Fallout by Zaney HacknSlash Rating: M (FFN) Ships: (Not the main focus) eventual Matsu x Sayu, eventual Ide x OC, background Aizawa x Eriko, (kinda) Mogi x Misa

Dude. Duuuuude. If you want to see an action-packed, angst-filled joyride of a fic featuring the Task Force after Kira, this is it. This is a 10 year old rewrite of the original version of the fic, but it has a lot of the old fandom charm left over from the 2008 original. The plot is centered on the guilt Matsuda feels after shooting Light, and what he has to do when a mysterious enemy forces him to confront that guilt.

I like how the author gives us insight into every major character in the story. The flipping perspectives keep the story grounded in some places, but make it chaotic when it needs to be. Most importantly, I like how we see, inside and out, how tight-knit the Task Force has become after everything they've gone through. I also enjoy how each of the Task Force members have their own dilemmas and struggles that pay off by the end, all to do with loyalty. Overall, Fallout is an epic story with action, suspense, and plenty of original characters that don't overstay their welcome.

True Successor by @mapsareforbraindeads Rating: M (AO3) Ships: Beyond x Light, BeyondTsuda

I think this was the first fic that really helped me get the appeal of Beyond Birthday, and that's a feat all on its own. Here, Vari takes the original story of Death Note and flips it on its head with an idea that sounds like "crack treated seriously" on paper: What if L was dead before the events of the story? What if, instead, he were replaced by someone looking to, "realize what [L] could not"?

The portrayal of Beyond's mental state throughout is simply breathtaking. One standout (not-too-spoilery) example happens when Ukita dies as in canon. Vari does an incredible job of showing Beyond's frantic thoughts to the point where this part is actually stressful to read. I really wish I could go into more detail about how Beyond is portrayed, but it's really worth reading for yourself. Like I said, this fic helped me understand why people like B's story so much.

Even if you've never read the LABB book (I haven't yet), True Successor is an utterly fantastic work that you should check out.

Weakness by Airmid Rating: M (AO3) Ship: LawTsuda

I think I've talked about this one before, but it's worth talking about again. I think of this as "the" LawTsuda fanfic for a couple reasons, most notably in that it really makes the pairing work in a setting that's close to canon. I really adore the way Airmid characterizes L and Matsuda in this fic and immediately contrasts them from each other. The events of Weakness take place before L's death in canon, and the story asks some simple questions: What would have happened if L let himself confide in someone before he died? And what if that person was Matsuda?

I've read some of Airmid's other, longer, works, and while I enjoyed Happiness and Until the End, Weakness stands out to me because it feels a lot "tighter", if that makes sense. Using the bells from the anime, we get this very solid through-line of L secretly worrying and preparing for the inevitable... And then Matsuda comes in. This fic in particular continues to be a huge inspiration for a fic I'm writing, especially for the portrayal of Matsuda as equally earnest and impulsive.

Pretty much anything by Tallulah

Okay, I wish I could pick just one to talk about here. From the short and devastating Axioms to the very long and devastating Broken Hallelujahs, all of Tallulah's works—the smutty and the soul-crushing—have intriguing worlds and deep, dark characters. Just make sure you mind the tags before diving in, these ones get dark. As a MatsuIde fan, I've got to give a shout-out to Saviour. It took a while for me to "get" the style of the fic, but in the end I really loved the tone. The way Tallulah depicts the dissociation and trauma of these characters feels incredibly real, and when the fic drops its unique formatting to symbolize the characters "snapping out of it", you feel it. Broken Hallelujahs has a similar vibe, but its story has more fast-paced action. Ooh, and The End of Days is an incredibly solid, more "canon-compliant", work featuring Aizawa x Ide x Matsuda, a guilty pleasure ship for me.

Twisted Fate by TwilightMaster15 Rating: M (AO3) Ships: None tagged so far, background LawLight

If you've been in the DN fanfic scene, I'm sure you've seen (or maybe read) a "What if L was Kira?" fic. Well, here's a new one. What if Aizawa was Kira?

This is another fic that takes what could be a "crack" scenario and executes it super super well. Rather than getting a childish Kira who calls himself "God of the New World", we have Aizawa, who has become disillusioned by the justice system he works in. The fic does a really good job in setting up Aizawa's relationships, good and bad, with the other characters, as well as showing the very different choices Aizawa!Kira makes versus Canon!Light. Speaking of Light, his motivations and role in the story are very well-done. His inclusion feels incredibly natural, and I can't wait to see what he and L do next.

Kira's Guide to the Munchies by @palant1r Rating: T (AO3) Ship: MatsuLight

I've gotta end this list with a funny one, alright? This fic is an absolutely delightful treat. It's like digging into a nice, warm brownie... Oh, wait.

See, Palant1r doesn't just characterize Matsuda and Light, more like dissects these characters' essences, their weaknesses and fears and flaws, and lays them bare for the reader to see. And yes, this is also true for when Matsuda and Light are tripping fucking balls. This fic is so very silly, but we also get to see the way these characters think, even if their faculties are hindered by quite a bit of weed. A character study wrapped in a goofy concept, Kira's Guide to the Munchies is a ride that you just have to read to believe. Seriously. I was thinking about quoting lines here, but it works better when you don't know what's coming next.

Roleplay as a canon character, though I appreciate the enthusiasm!

Try to use Anon powers - nice try. It's as tangible as Sunny reading a blog in real life. You can't send 100 tacos to me through the inbox, so you can't do that to Sunny either.

Dragon Cave - OC Short Story

A little before Christmas present for my wine club ladies, which I owe them for a long time. Sorry it took so long for me Ladies, but I think I finally find my way to write.

First of all, I should explain that my characters no longer come from the Wizarding World universe, but now live independently in their own world. Everything from HPHM or other games is AU and no longer counts as part of my canon. In addition, Samantha's partner is no longer Charlie (of course, he is also part of the Wizarding World). Instead, I created the OC Daniel. Since he is based on Charlie, there are of course certain parallels, but I ask that you see Daniel as an independent character.

Also in my OG World Phil Baker (my OC from HPMA) is also part of. He is friend with Daniel and Samantha, but that doesn't change the OC-Ship I have with him and Scarlett (belongs to the wonderful @whatwouldvalerydo )

So everything that is not from my OG World is now more an AU-Verse. I hope you understand.

This little short story also takes place in my canon universe, in which the magical world is a parallel world to ours. I don't want to explain too much, because I want to see how the world works without much explanation. I am also sorry if I made some mistakes. It's been a while since I wrote a story in english and since I am in Training right now to "write in generel" I sometimes still need to find my style to write things.

"It was obvious that it had to be the highest mountain..." Samantha slumped her shoulders in annoyance. She had recently arrived in the other world and was now standing at the foot of a mountain range. Although it was the end of October, the sun was shining and the temperature was still pleasant. At least that would make the climb easier, thought the blonde half-vampire and set off.

The otherwise deep green landscape was now colored in warm red and brown tones and golden leaves danced through the air here and there. Only the wind and the rustling of the leaves could be heard. No animals or other creatures could be heard and Samantha knew why he was looking here of all places. The surroundings were perfect - high mountains, few other living creatures and there was sure to be a river or other water source somewhere nearby. But why does it always have to be the highest mountain? Inwardly, Samantha swore that she would kick someone if this wasn't the right mountain and she had made the climb for nothing. But deep down she knew that she was right. That was the advantage of a soul connection. You could feel the other person. Not like in fantasy novels, where soul mates had a telepathic connection that they could use to lust after each other, but more of a feeling of certainty. Just like the certainty that Samantha hates mountain hikes.

It took a while and the sun had already moved a good distance when Samantha sat down on a rock to take a break. Her stamina wasn't bad, but Samantha's body was more designed for fighting than for long hikes. Samantha was also sure that the air was already getting thinner. Regardless of whether that was logical or not. She was in the other world. Nothing here necessarily has to make sense. So her looking at her cell phone didn't make sense either, since it didn't work in this world. Looking up at the sky, Samantha tried to determine the position of the sun, which made her eyes water and she had to squint. "Something between before and after," Samantha muttered and gave up her Girl Scout attempt to find out the time.

After a short break, Samantha continued walking and concentrated on her hearing. Blindly climbing mountains would only waste her time and she had no desire to spend the night outside. Contrary to what many people thought, Samantha did not like the cold. She preferred the warmth. It was good that her partner was a fire mage and thus a living heater. It was sometimes unfair. In the summer he was not too warm because he was almost completely immune to heat, and in the winter he did not freeze because he was his own heat center. But these were important prerequisites for becoming a dragon rider. And for the reason why Samantha was allowed to climb mountains.

But complaining wouldn't help anyway, so Samantha took one step after the other until she finally heard the sound she had been hoping for. A heartbeat. And not just any heartbeat, it was the heartbeat that she liked so much and that put a smile on her face. With new energy, Samantha followed the sound and soon found the destination of her journey. While the sun slowly approached the horizon again and bathed everything in a strong red, the entrance to a cave could be seen between rocks and stones, well hidden in the mountain range with a deep descent into the valley. It was perfect. But now Samantha had to be careful. She checked where the wind was coming from and made sure not to stand in the headwind. She had heard often enough how best to approach a cave like this, so it was almost routine. Samantha slowly crouched down and began to approach the cave in a crouched position. With every step she took, she was careful not to make any noise and listened carefully at the same time. The heartbeat she was looking for was in this cave and yet Samantha had to be careful. Approaching a wyvern cave was never without danger.

At the entrance to the cave, Samantha could already feel the warmth on her skin. God, it must have been around 30 degrees in this cave. And it was the end of October. But that was another sign that she was in the right place. Samantha carefully peeked in and immediately her eyes fell on the orange dot. This dot was completely disheveled hair belonging to a young man. He was a bit taller than Samantha, wore dark hiking clothes and had wild freckles, as well as small scars on his tanned skin. When she saw the butt in front of her, Samantha had to smile a little. She knew what was under the fabric and was amused that the owner of this tight butt hadn't noticed her yet.

Daniel was engrossed in his research. Hidden behind a rock, he was observing something that Samantha couldn't see yet and was frantically taking notes. Even if Samantha hadn't moved silently, he wouldn't have noticed anything anyway. When it came to his research, Daniel missed everything around him. "Classic case of hyperfocus," Phil's voice sounded in Samantha's head. She shook herself slightly and forbade Phil from haunting her thoughts. It was bad enough to put up with him before she left.

With slow and careful steps, Samantha crept up to the unsuspecting Daniel. Under other circumstances, she would have had fun and scared him, but since Samantha didn't know what else could be in the cave, she decided not to. Instead, she deliberately bumped into a small stone to draw attention to herself. Daniel immediately turned his head and held his hand ready to attack. But when Daniel's brown eyes saw Samantha, they widened in surprise and a broad smile lit up Daniel's face.

"Sam. There you are. You found me quicker than expected." Daniel whispered, invitingly offering Samantha his hand. Samantha returned the smile and took Daniel's hand: "That wasn't difficult. Your heart is beating more excitedly than Phil's at the presentation of the next generation of consoles." Okay, memo to Samantha - she was definitely spending too much time with Phil at the moment. Daniel was also surprised by her statement, but immediately had to grin again. He took his favorite half-vampire in his arms and gave her a passionate kiss on the mouth.

Samantha may be a tough, trained bounty hunter, but it was fun to watch her still look like an innocent girl during such actions. With flushed cheeks and wide eyes, she just blinked at Daniel a few times without being able to say anything. Daniel took this chance and turned his head in the direction he had just been looking. "There's a good reason for the racing heart. I've finally found one, Sam. I've found a nest."

Now Samantha was really stunned. Daniel was a dragon rider and since there were no missions at the moment, the riders were free to go on research trips. Too little was known about the wyverns. The heirs of the dragons. Daniel had set out to find a wyvern nest, since very little was known about the breeding behavior of the wyverns. That was also the reason why Samantha went in search of her soul mate. She received a letter from him saying that he had found a promising position and wanted her to be there. Not for his safety, but because Daniel knew that Samantha would not miss such an opportunity. She would have been insulted if he had not informed her and his entire bonus from the mission would probably have gone on sweets and books before Samantha spoke to him again. And so he was able to spend more time with her.

Curiously, Samantha looked over the rock behind which they were hiding. And there it was. A nest built on stone and ash. In the middle lay a huge egg. Its shell was thick and deep black with a slight bluish sheen, the surface seemed angular and so it almost looked like a small rock itself. Around the nest lay a scaly and powerful figure. The slowly moving ribcage was mostly protected by membrane-like wings and the translucent light revealed the fine blood vessels. The wyvern's scales were deep blue, but in the cave they almost looked black, but only almost. If it had been a black-scaled wyvern, Samantha would have pulled Daniel's butt out of the cave faster than he could have said "saddlebag". The blue wyvern was sleeping around the egg. No ring or saddle was visible, so it was a wild wyvern. Great, that only made things better. Because if the animal woke up now, Samantha and Daniel wouldn't have the slightest chance. Wyverns were dangerous, especially when they were wild.

A wild, female, breeding wyvern was almost as bad as a black one, but as long as the wyvern slept, everything was fine. But when Samantha turned around, Daniel was already halfway over the rock.

“What are you doing?” Samantha looked at Daniel in horror, shocked at her own volume. Daniel immediately told her to be quieter. It's easy for him to say! “I'm trying to find out how old the animal is. We still know so little about breeding behavior.” Even though Samantha could understand the scientific curiosity, she knew that her companion had no idea how best to proceed. She immediately grabbed him by the sleeve and pulled him back behind the rock. “You're welcome to do that, but you're not going to go up to a wild wyvern in the open field and act like a good friend.” Daniel rolled his eyes briefly. He knew that Samantha was worried, but where he made a few plans, she made too many. Nevertheless, she was right. Daniel's curiosity was too strong, but there were still two of them in this cave. He nodded briefly at Samantha to show his agreement. At the same moment, Daniel blinked briefly.

“Don't you think it's gotten colder?” “Colder?” Samantha raises an eyebrow. “I think it's very warm in this cave, but if anything, it can only be a few degrees colder.” Instinctively, the two of them looked around. Daniel only now noticed the soot on the inside walls of the cave and Samantha suddenly seemed frightened.

With her eyes wide open, she grabbed Daniel by the arm and looked at him in fear: "She's waking up." Her voice was barely a whisper and immediately both of them heard the wyvern start to move. Escaping from the cave was impossible. Staying in hiding and hoping that the wyvern didn't smell anything was the only chance of survival that the two of them had now. Samantha was annoyed that she hadn't made Daniel leave earlier and Daniel was annoyed that he had put Samantha in such danger. The wyvern became more and more alert and started to move around the nest, which caused the two of them to press even more against the rock in their hiding place. Samantha's heart was pounding in her throat, but she hid it and tried to keep a clear head. If the two of them were discovered, they would fight back. And who knows, maybe they would even survive.

A smile suddenly played across Samantha's face. Somehow, such situations were typical of her life. And of Daniel's. That's why the two fit together so well. And when it came down to it, there was no better team. Daniel seemed to have similar thoughts, because he reached for Samantha's hand and stroked it with his thumb. And even though the wyvern was still in the cave, Samantha's and Daniel's heartbeats calmed down. It was a strange familiarity that kept catching up with the two of them. Forgotten was the anger about the long march to the cave, forgotten was the anger about the danger and the recklessness. Samantha had almost forgotten the wyvern again and then it happened.

The wyvern took a deep breath, straightened up, raised its chest and began to spit a torrent of fire. The jet of fire lit up the entire cave and went straight over the heads of the two people. Instinctively, the two pressed themselves to the ground and although Daniel leaned protectively over Samantha, she felt the incredible heat emanating from the wyvern's flames. Although Daniel, as a fire mage, had a certain resistance to heat, there was no question that these flames could also bring about his death in seconds. Samantha was sure that was it. The wyvern had discovered them and this jet of fire was the first threat. The wyvern would soon jump onto the rock behind which they were hiding and would tear the intruders to pieces with its mouth.

But that didn't happen. Confused, Samantha dared to open her eyes and look around carefully. She didn't dare to move yet, but she felt that the fire was moving. The beam that had just swept over their heads was now slowly moving in a circle around the cave, with the brooding wyvern at the center. Daniel also seemed to be surprised and dared to open his eyes. The beam of fire was now out of sight of the two of them, but everything could still be heard clearly. The wyvern was simply turning in a circle!

Daniel and Samantha looked at each other in surprise. Both had their eyes wide open and were moving slightly, as if in slow motion. Anything that made noise had to be prevented. After what felt like an eternity, the wyvern had turned 360 degrees and the jet of fire ended abruptly. All it left behind was a cave that was now much hotter, burnt stone and two completely confused people who were staring at the stone wall in front of them with tense muscles the whole time. Just as Daniel moved his shoulder slightly to look past the rock hiding place, the wyvern roared.

A bloodcurdling, deep scream that made the whole floor and walls shake. Samantha had to cover her ears with all her strength. The noise was much louder for her and there was nothing to shield her from the loud screaming. Since he didn't know what else to do, Daniel grabbed Samantha and pulled himself close to him. He knew how good her hearing was, but right now he could only hold her in his arms to be there for her. Even though the roar also caused pain in his ears. Because of the aftershocks in their ears, they didn't hear the wyvern start to move at first.

The beautiful monster stuck and shook itself. Then it almost trotted to the cave entrance. The wyvern took a deep breath, spread its wings and actually took off with just a few wing beats and then flew. But the secret visitors only noticed this in passing. They were still fighting with their ears and slowly both came to their senses. Now it was clear what had happened. The female wyvern had heated up the cave with its flaming breath so that the egg would stay warm while the female probably went hunting. Samantha and Daniel survived by pure chance.

They both looked at each other again with their eyes wide open, sweat was pouring down both of them and their breathing was heavy. Neither of them was able to say a word. But both understood how lucky they were, and also that they were witnessing something very special. Never before had they managed to observe wyverns breeding AND survive it. But the thought was pushed further and further back into their minds. Actually, all thoughts stopped. Samantha's head was completely empty and silent, but her body was shaking from all the adrenaline. No chance for reason or clear thought. Here too, Daniel and Samantha seemed to agree without saying a word. Or rather... their bodies agreed.

In the blink of an eye, they both grabbed each other and ignited their own fire in the form of a passionate kiss. Forget about reason, Samantha didn't want to change the situation right now. Here in the wyvern cave, in the arms of her lover. There is nowhere in the world she would rather be right now. Daniel's hands lovingly stroke Samantha's body while he intensifies the kiss. His tongue playfully begins to find its way into Samantha's mouth. A game that Samantha is only too happy to get involved in. A wave of heat takes hold of Samantha's body and seems to burn her like an inner flame. Was she completely stupid? The two were sitting hidden behind a rock in a wyvern cave and Samantha wanted to mount her partner like a hormone-driven teenager.

But Daniel didn't seem to be feeling much different. With a bold grip, he grabbed Samantha by the butt and skillfully pulled her onto his lap. His grab and his dominant action made Samantha's breath catch for a moment. For a brief moment, she even broke off the kiss. One look from Daniel into her eyes and all shyness was gone. As if there was a signal that only the two of them noticed, Samantha and Daniel began to rip their clothes off. Every inch of the other's body was thoroughly explored, as if it were the first time. But without a trace of restraint. A playful hand movement here, a teasing nibble on the skin there. Daniel knew which buttons to push on Samantha to send her into ecstasy and he made the most of this knowledge. The half-vampire's flinching and moaning of pleasure was like music to his ears. He enjoyed every single second and savored it to the full.

The feeling of their bodies connected was intoxicating and nothing in the world could describe the feeling and intimacy that surrounded the two of them. Simply letting go and pursuing the feeling of pure lust was exactly what they both wanted right now and no one in either world would be able to understand this connection. This connection was like an unspoken realization. She was a half-vampire and a hunter, he was a wyvern rider and fire mage. Wildness, risk and danger were their constant companions. These things would always remain a part of their lives. Just like each other.

Completely naked in a wyvern cave, with nothing but their own clothes to support them, Samantha and Daniel made love for as long as they could. Nothing could stop them, no rules to follow or obey. And the wild magic and how those rules were ignored! Samantha had no idea what Daniel was capable of, but he managed to make Samantha feel things she didn't even know were possible. But she reciprocated as best she could, and here and there she simply tried certain things in a new way. As it turned out, Daniel seemed to really enjoy it when she nibbled a little on the skin on his shoulder. And who could have guessed that he would enjoy that one hand gesture so much?

It was unclear how much time passed, but eventually Daniel and Samantha collapsed and lay on the rocky ground, completely exhausted. Neither was able to move much or breathe quietly.

“If the female comes back now, we'll definitely be dead this time.”

Daniel took as deep a breath as he could: “Then I'll die knowing that no one has ever died more contentedly than me. "If there is life after death, I'll definitely show it off.”

They both started giggling and the giggling quickly turned into a hearty laugh. Samantha slowly turned to her side so she could see Daniel better: "Thank you for calling me here." Daniel turned his head to Samantha and showed her his crooked smile: "Anytime. I wouldn't have missed this for anything in the world. And there's no one I'd rather have experienced this with than you." "Well, I hope so." Samantha cheekily punched Daniel's shoulder. "At least now we can brag about having sex in a wyvern cave. And not just once."

“I hope this doesn't become a new standard. If I have to find a breeding cave every time you do these things to me, I'm in trouble.”

“I have an idea.” How about some kind of code word? “If you whisper that in my ear, get ready for me to pounce on you without restraint.”

Daniel looked at his mate curiously, already learning the new secret word. A broad smile spread across Samantha's face and a cheeky giggle could be heard before Samantha leaned over Daniel.

“Our new secret word for wild, unbridled sex is: dragon's cave.”

4. Tell me about one of your abandoned WIPs. Why did you abandon it?

AHDHHSHD I'LL COPY PASTE MY REPLY TO THE OTHER ASK!!

hoo boy. so, there was a sort of ambitious au I tried to write once—have you heard of twin star exorcists? I'm an anime enthusiast of it since I got pretty frustrated with where the manga was going what with the constant delays and derailing from the main point and the author not staying consistent with details, etc. that being said the anime doesn't fill a lot of gaps that should have been filled.

so while I was still pretty active in the kpop circles—which I probably will go back to soon lol when I feel less icky about the people I was beefing with—I tried to write a TSE au. while it wasn't my brightest idea to transpose a bunch of Koreans onto a Japanese setting, I also underestimated how difficult it'd be to handle all those canon details.

plus, exorcism is very heavily based on Buddhism, specifically in Japan, so I was just like. well am I prepared to potentially insult an entire faith. (research goes a long way kids! don't listen to younger mari) and I just sort of...let it falter and it doesn't even exist in my wip folder anymore </3

(it also involves a forced arranged marriage and the topic of being forced to have a kid, essentially, and I didn't want to genderbend anyone for it, so my solution was a trans man who was at least somewhat interested in having kids biologically one day, like me. once again, I didn't feel I did a very good job of it, and it was a little daunting to write it knowing that i did want at least a semi explicit scene that, once again, reflected me as a person. being a minor at the time, I let the idea go. and I was also much less confrontational at the time so I didn't think I could handle it if anyone was being weird about it lmao—which I fully can and will at this point.

that being said, I did write a fic about a trans man having a kid for a different fandom earlier this year, so I'm linking it if you're interested! very fluffy and family fun. and not explicit. though be warned, it is rpf lol)

HOWEVER!! I've actually considered picking it up again and rebranding as a soukoku au? once again, enemies to lovers, my transchuu agenda, my dazai can be any gender agenda, EXORCIST PRODIGIES, one of the characters has no idea where they came from and has a whole Bit about questioning their humanity. i.e. arahabaki parallels. there are a few gaps I'm trying to work out but it's definitely an idea haha)

Megamind and Zim

So, I'm a huge nerd (as you all know). And I've recently gotten a bit back into Invader Zim because my hyperfixations are a neverending cycle of whatever happens to capture my interest.

Well, since my brain likes to make connections between hyperfixations, I decided to start listing out similarities between one of my most precious blorbos - Megamind - and Zim. Just for funsies. :P

And uh, there's A LOT, actually. Which shouldn't surprise me considering they're both Very Dramatic aliens, but either way. I'm gonna post what I've gathered here for my own amusement. 😁

So here's what I got:

Aliens

Landed on Earth

Grew up parentless

Outcasts of society

Robotic servants/minions that were given to them prior to being sent to Earth (yes, Minion is a fish, but he does have a robotic body)

Black heeled boots and black gloves

Viewed as "evil" even tho neither are actually evil (Zim is self-centered, chaotic, and destructive but I wouldn't classify him as evil even if he himself might - his mission to conquer Earth is more to please his Tallest and be validated as a good invader than to actually be evil for the sake of being evil)

Have strong relationships with their rivals/enemies to the point where they give their lives meaning and purpose - both became depressed and unmotivated when those enemies were suddenly not around to fight (due to being "defeated" in Megs' case and pursuing "real science" in Zim's case in the unfinished ep Mopiness of Doom)

Both are frequently shipped with their enemies in fanworks (Metro Man for Megs, Dib for Zim)

Intelligent scientists and inventors but they're also goofy as hell and they create plans that continually fail

Speech idiosyncrasies (pronouncing words incorrectly for Megs, emphasizing certain words and poor volume control for Zim)

Very animated and dramatic/theatrical when speaking

Short (Zim more so than Megs but Megs is still, like, shorter than Roxanne)

Big egos that hide their severe insecurities

Significant amounts of angst to both character's backstories

Cool color skin tones

Bullied in school

Affinity for junk food

Many fans of their respective media are in the lgbtqia+ community - both characters themselves also read as some flavor of queer and fans often HC/interpret them as such

Both come across as some level of neurodivergent

Pretty neat, huh? Well, I took it a step further (bc of course I did) and decided to ALSO find as many similarities as I could between Roxanne Ritchi and Dib Membrane. Being the main human characters, it felt more appropriate than trying to compare Metro Man to Dib, even tho Metro Man largely fills the "enemy" role for Megamind (and bc I am a filthy shipper at heart, fight me*).

Anyway, so Roxanne and Dib:

Human (potentially questionable in Dib's case, but still)

Foils and equals to the alien protagonists

Intelligent

Sneak into alien protagonists' bases to take pictures and figure out "evil" plans to try to stop them

Have been kidnapped by aliens

Know the real truth of the alien protagonists, but their peers don't (Roxanne knows Megamind isn't really evil or dangerous, Dib knows Zim is really an alien - in Megamind's case, the people of Metro City do eventually come around, but not til the end)

Have false narratives about some aspect of their lives widely believed by the general public (most the citizens of Metro City think that Roxanne is dating Metro Man, almost everyone around Dib believes he's just crazy for thinking Zim is an alien)

Have companions who are also privy to the alien protagonists' true natures, but those companions are apathetic (Metro Man and Gaz respectively)

Concerned for the well-being of their fellow humans and cities

Like their aliens, both also come across as some level of neurodivergent (you kinda have to squint to notice it in Roxanne, but it's definitely there)

Alien boyfriends* (if you ship Megarox and ZaDr :P)

So yeah! Just some fun comparisons to ponder.

*Although I don't ship ZaDr within the canon universe of the show itself, I do enjoy it in certain transformative contexts. I'm v aware of the controversial nature of the pairing, so I wanna make that clear. I just like having fun with it.

technical devotion, part ten: unveiling truths

Echo entered the dwelling and slipped off his droid mask with a definitive sigh. Another day of nothing. Though his defeated expression was quickly swept from his face as Kan came running up to him.

“Echo, you're back!” She said quickly, excitement evident, though Echo was sure it wasn't just because he'd returned.

“I’m back… what's up?” He asked dubiously.

“I've been trying to comm you all afternoon” Kan scurried back to the kitchen table, rummaging through the mess on the table. “but I think I know why you haven't been replying, at least… you haven't been ignoring me right?” She stopped rummaging to look up and tilt her head to the side.

Echo smiled faintly, “No, I haven't”

“Okay, well” Kan continued her frantic searching, “Ah, here” She pulled out her datapad, “I was listening in on their comms, and it seems that the Empire are undertaking the exact same project that I am”

Echo frowned in confusion as Kan made her way over to him with the datapad, “What do you mean?”

“Technological shorting, disrupting, whatever you want to call it” She brought up the words she had typed up upon hearing them, “This is what they said”

Echo looked over the words. Electrical pulses… system failure… signal disruption… mining…

“What does this mean?” He asked, looking to Kan, who was now exceedingly close to his chest as she showed him the file over her shoulder.

“A lot of things” Kan started, leaning back into Echo's shoulder a little, “It means that the reason they're building this weapon here, on this planet, is because of the mining operation they're running 15 or so klicks from here. Where my project is entirely wiring-based and ecologically… well, not destructive, theirs is going to pillage this planet of whatever resource it is they've found helps in creating their weapon. It means that they intend to use this weapon, which would be some kind of canon, as something they could fit onto their fighters to shoot at other ships and short the entire system, bring down the ship in any and all senses. It's technological warfare at is finest, and mightily unfair and unethical in so many ways. Not that we thought the Empire were above that”

Echo tried so desperately to focus on Kan's words, but the feel of her leaning into him was frying his brain. She continued to rest even more of her weight into him as she talked, pointing at parts of the text on her datapad and talking in animated way as if it wasn't making Echo burn inside at the feeling. He so desperately wanted to just wrap his arms around her waist and bury his nose in her neck, fully taking in the scent that was teasing him. He didn't realise that he was just staring at Kan and trying to supress his thoughts until she had turned to look at him.

“Are you listening?” She asked plainly.

“Uh… yeah, sorry” Echo stumbled through the words, swallowing hard as he looked down into her eyes from only inches away.

“You okay?” Kan asked, her gaze flicking between Echo's eyes, which seemed full of alarm.

“What? yeah, fine” He said, finally having to look away from Kan as her stare became too intense to cope with, and he felt himself crumbling beneath it.

Kan just looked at him for a moment longer before stepping away from him and sitting on the edge of the table.

“Echo can I ask you something?”

He let his eyes find hers again, palms sweating, “I suppose”

Echo could see Kan's hesitance before she spoke, “Um, why disguise yourself as a droid?”

“Oh” Echo looked down at his disguise and the mask that was still in his hand, then back up, “I guess because I'm mostly mechanical as it is. It's easier than having to come up with an explanation as to why I'm like this”

Kan nodded, “I can understand that but…” She trailed off.

“What?”

“I don't know, I can't imagine it feels nice, mentally”

Echo was taken aback that Kan had even thought of that, his heart once again acting up as she proved her selflessness. She had thought about how it must feel for him, a man that was mostly machine, to present himself to the world as what many saw him as anyway.

“I mean… maybe, but what else could I do?”

Kan gazed at him intently, her brow setting in a straight line as she looked away sheepishly, “I didn't draw up that hand attachment for no reason”

“Why did you?” Echo couldn't stop himself from asking.

“Oh, I mean, I didn't know why you had the scomp but I figured that sometimes two hands could come in handy” Kan shrugged, then let out a little laugh at the accidental pun.

Echo chuckled, though he still pressed for more, “But… we didn't even really know each other then”

Kan looked to the ground, “Yeah, I guess I was just trying to make myself useful, and I actually had a dream about it” She chuckled, “Then I just got it in my head”

Echo’s heart skipped a beat, “You had a dream about me?”

“About making the attachment and giving it to you, yeah” Kan smiled at him.

“Did I like it? In the dream” Echo let a smile fall across his lips.

“I don't remember actually” Kan said with a finger in her chin as if trying to recall.

Echo chuckled softly, then drew his eyebrows together as his next thought formed, “I'm sorry I didn't say anything at the time, it was very kind of you to think of me and I just ignored it”

“It's okay, I know you don't like to talk about… stuff” Kan trailed off, cursing herself for even saying the words.

As Kan looked down shyly, Echo viewed her with only complete trust and adoration, and felt compelled to finally tell her the truth about himself.

“It was the Separatists, that made me like this” He confessed, and Kan's eyes snapped up to his. She stayed quiet to let him continue, “I got myself… blown up, on a mission, and the Techno Union took whatever was left of me and made me into…” He gestured to himself.

“I'm so sorry that happened to you Echo” Kan said with the utmost sincerity.

Echo was sick of the pitying looks, and now he especially hated it from Kan. He suddenly regretted saying anything, feeling weak in front of the one person he was determined to appear strong in front of. Though, by her nature, Kan had something else to say.

“But I'm very glad that you're alive. If you had died being blown up I never would have met you” She spoke so seriously, her eyes holding so much emotion. An emotion that, it seemed to Echo, appeared to be understanding.

“That's true I suppose, I am grateful to be alive, even if it's the Separatists I have to thank for it” He chuckled a little, and Kan joined him in the action, if a little sadly, then she grew more serious again as she brought her hand to her shoulder.

“The Separatists were monsters”

Echo instantly noticed the way her eyes glazed over for a moment, and how she was absent-mindedly tracing the outline of her scar. He tried to catch her eyes again for conformation of what it seemed like she was insinuating, however inadvertently.

“But I'm glad you’re here, and you know I think your attachments are pretty cool right?” Kan looked back to Echo and noticed him looking at her scar as she ran her hand along it.

Echo smirked a little, “You might have mentioned it”

Kan smirked back at him before taking a seat at the table and returning to fiddling with whatever contraption is was she was tweaking now.

“Can I ask you something too?” Echo asked, unable to help himself any longer.

“Is it about my scar?” Kan asked back almost immediately, without even looking back at him.

“Uh- yeah, but only if you feel comfortable talki-”

“It's fine” She sighed, “I got it during the war, I was on Felucia with the 41st. Apparently the Separatists had started taking prisoners by then”

“Wait, when you said you were in the war…”

Kan figured that the loth-cat was more or less out of the bag at this point, and decided that since Echo had trusted her with his secret, she'd let him into hers.

“I served as an engineer and then got trained as a field medic under Master Unduli, she all but saved me from the Separatists and I offered my services as gratitude. I don't think either of us foresaw it lasting the whole duration of the war” She ended with a small chuckle, but Echo was still stuck on what she'd said before.

“You were taken prisoner by the Separatists?”

Kan sighed, “Yeah, they insisted that I was Luminara's padawan, wanted information about her battle strategies but I resisted, which they didn't take too kindly to”

Echo sat down next to her, watching her with such understanding and a newfound reverence.

“What did they do?” He asked so quietly, almost in a whisper, as if afraid to even ask, or know.

“It was um-” She swallowed a lump in her throat, “Some sort of acid or something” She confessed, and looked to Echo to see his eyes go wide, “Yeah it wasn't fun”

“I'm so sorry that happened Kan”

Kan just smiled sadly.

Echo was floundering for the right thing to say. Instead, he just said what he was thinking, “For what it's worth, I think the scar is pretty cool”

Thankfully, her eyes lit up, “Really?”

“Yeah, makes you look tough” Echo's lips curled into a smirk.

Kan laughed, “Thanks Echo, that means a lot”

“Okay, so we're clear on the plan?”

Echo nodded, a smirk threatening to take over his lips as Kan stepped into the more militaristic side of her personality. The seriousness of her expression as she leaned over the kitchen table, pointing at a location on the holomap, was enough to drive him crazy. Now knowing where she learnt to act this way, it only made it that much more attractive to him.

“Can I get an actual affirmative on that” She asked, a little of her usual personality slipping through with the tilt of her head.

“Yes Ma'am” Echo said, unable to hold back his smirk any longer.

Kan rolled her eyes, her own smirk fighting it's way onto her face, “Okay okay, let's get going then”

Kan turned off the holomap and picked up her blaster holster from the table, slinging it around her hips and making sure it was secure. Echo watched her out of the corner of his eye as he secured his armour, and caught her eye when she did the same thing. Kan blushed furiously.

For all that she felt she made it painfully obvious, Echo seemed to be unaware of her affection for him, and unbeknownst to her, it was exactly as unaware as she was of his feelings for her. She felt that there was something unsaid between them, but she didn't know if Echo would label it the same as she would, so she left it alone.

“Alright let's go” Kan said after a moment, moving towards the door.

Echo and Kan stepped out into the dusk, a stillness hanging in the air that only felt noticeable as the rest of the world settled into sleep. They quickly made their way to the warehouse on the other side of the town, where the Empire’s main base of operations was located.

Despite Kan’s reluctancy to do it previously, they were really going in with a blaster and nothing else. It was risky, but they had figured out a way to reduce the risk a little. In Echo’s surveying, he had noticed that there was somewhat of a backdoor that was left unguarded for a few minutes when the guards changed from the day shift to the night shift, and it was something that happened everyday without fail. That would at least afford them a way inside, but from there, it was anybody’s guess as to what would happen.

They came to rest at the edge of the woods that the backdoor overlooked, and watched as the Stormtroopers there talked to each other, one of them checking the time.

“Any second now” Echo murmured, as if to try and quell his own eagerness.

A few moments later, one of the Stormtroopers nodded their head to the inside, and the other agreed, opening the door for them to finish their shift.

“Time to go” Kan whispered and quickly darted from their cover in the trees. Echo followed closely behind her, and they silently slipped inside. They found themselves in a corridor, the sound of far-off chatter bouncing around the walls.

“Where should we start?” Echo asked in a hushed voice. He figured that since Kan was the more necessary person in this mission, be able to slice through their encryption and firewalls with ease, that he would take her lead.

“In here” Kan figured they would start with the nearest door and see what they could find.

She turned her head to the door, and upon hearing nothing, opened it up. She held her blaster in front of her as she went inside, though relaxed when she saw that no one was there, and it appeared to be some kind of small barracks. She saw an imperial officer’s uniform laid out on one of the bunks and ran her fingers over the fabric, looking to Echo.

“I might as well, right? In case we get caught” She reasoned and Echo nodded, turning away to let her change.

He breathed deeply, his blaster held to his chest as he rested next to the closed door, listening for anyone incoming. Regrettably, the only thing he could focus on was the sound of Kan’s clothes falling to the floor and the rustle of her slipping on the new ones. Luckily for him, no one had come in the time that it took for her to get into the uniform.

“Okay, lets continue” Kan said, and Echo turned to look at her. She looked completely incorrect in the uniform. It fit her well enough, but even with the seriousness of her mission persona, it was far too devoid of any charm to match her in any way.

They moved out again, both of them with light footfalls and straining to listen for if anyone was coming. They made their way down a few narrow corridors before they came upon a door with a small window in it, and they could see the light of a holoscreen still lit up in the otherwise dark room. Kan entered and set her blaster down on the surface beside the screen, looking around for the computer. She found it underneath the surface and pulled out the datastick she had brought along.

“Watch the door” She spoke quietly, and Echo settled himself by the door, so that he could see out but anybody walking past wouldn’t notice him.

The computer wasn’t logged in to anything, so Kan had to slice through their decryptions, which the datastick helped with, but she hit a wall quickly.

“Kriff” She hisses quietly.

“What is it?” Echo asked, not taking his eyes away from the door.

“Nothing, it’s just going to take me a second to… nevermind got it”

Echo chuckled to himself, and Kan got to sorting through the files on the computer. There were a lot, far more than she was anticipating.

”Echo, get over here”

He obliged quickly, and came to stand behind her, leaning over her shoulder.

“There’s so many files. These one here pertain to this specific base I believe and they would take enough time to download as it is… We could really get a lot of information here, but…” She trailed off, her thoughts jumbled, “We could try and send a signal to Rex, send the files to him instead, but we don’t have the wherewithal for that right now, and it would take too long to-”

“Kan it’s fine. Lets just get the information on this base, at least for now. We can figure out more later if need be” Echo placed a hand on her shoulder and felt her relax beneath it.

“Okay, it’ll just take a few-”

Kan was interrupted by the door sliding open and an officer walking inside.

“Wha-?”

Echo acted on instinct before they could even finish the word, shooting a stun blast at them.

“Better get on with it then” He said in a strained chuckle, moving to pull the stunned body inside. He closed the door and resumed his previous position as Kan began downloading the files about the project onto the datastick. He kept half an eye on the crumpled form of the Imperial that he had positioned against the wall, and kept the rest of his attention on the corridor outside. A few people passed by; a patrol of Stormtroopers and a pair of officers, but none had noticed them inside the room. After an almost painful amount of time, Kan spoke up.

“Got it”

She removed the datastick and put it back in the pouch on her belt, and Echo checked the corridor once more before sliding the door open. Kan stepped out into the hall before him, but before he could even set one foot out the door, she pushed him back inside and closed the door. He was about to protest, open the door and ask what was going on, but he quickly saw the problem.

“I’ve not seen you here before” The officer spoke with suspicion, the Stormtroopers either side of him gripping their blasters a little harder.

“New transfer” Kan said calmly.

”What’s your rank and operating number?”

“Um… Lieutenant… Oh kark it” Kan whipped her blaster from its holster and fired a stun blast to each of the Imperials before her, then opened the door again, “We’ve got to go”

Echo clambered over the bodies that were collapsed in the hall as he followed after Kan, and they made their way back towards the way they came in, though when they got into the barracks where Kan had taken the clothes from, there was someone there.

“Hey! That's my uniform!” The woman pointed at her accusingly and Kan rolled her eyes, quickly stunning her.

She began quickly stripping off the Imperial uniform, “Didn’t suit me anyway”

Echo turned away, a small laugh escaping his lips at how relaxed she seemed in the situation that was anything but. After she was back in her own clothes, they left out the door they had entered, stunning the night shift guards who had since taken their post. The two of them ran back to their dwelling, circling around the outskirts of the town and through every secluded back alley and side street that they could.
