It would’ve been a very long time after knowing you

Even if he was physically attracted to you, he wouldn’t consider that “love”

He usually judges people more on their character

That’s not so say he doesn’t enjoy calling people ugly if he thinks they’re ugly though

So you guys would’ve been vibing together for a while

He’d come away from each interaction with you just a little happier (or a lot happier), but he didn’t really notice it

That is, until he walks into a room one day and finds you relaxing, scrolling through your phone

He announces some unhinged plan, fully intending on carrying it out

You just look up at him for a second before (being used to his bs) just giving a thumbs-up and telling him to have fun

Hello! I was wondering if you'd quite something based on the bat boys (or just Jason) reaction to realizing they liked having a normal life?

Like they go to visit the readers' family for Xmas, but their family left without letting them know, so they had the whole house to themselves, so they got to play house. It was in a whole other state, so no needing to be vigilantes. Just them with their s/o getting ready for Christmas, being shown around and just living a normal life for a few weeks.

A/N: Hope you don't mind me not writing about Duke and Damian since they're both minors so legally speaking they can't really travel out-of-state alone. Plus to be real, I highly doubt Batman would want to leave Damian unsupervised considering what happens when he's alone 😔

Dick:

His whole life he was anything but normal, being raised in a circus and now, fighting crimes 24/7. Excitement, action, danger, and adventures are what defines him and how he had always dreamt of how his life would go on. But here he is, tasting “normal” for the first time in his life by spending the holiday with you in the house you were raised in. Snowball fights and building snowmen delays the process of clearing the snow. Not to forget the snow angels that are made once he playfully tackles you down into the snow after you manage to get more on him than yourself. Putting up the lights and decoration both inside and outside of the house was more fun than the times he helped out at the Wayne manor, while finding out shopping for anything during the holiday season is a battle of its own. Adding that to the daily routine that’s usually gone through on his days off every day,  it’s… quiet and peaceful. He doesn’t wake up to sirens or violence. He’s not worried about another mission, instead figuring out how he’ll get your present under the tree without getting caught. You greeting him at the door, placing a kiss on his cheeks that are slightly bitten from frost when it’s decided he’s moving the snow on his own makes him so fuzzy, he starts calling you honey over babe. The most mind boggling about this? He doesn't mind it. It’s hard to accept that he actually likes “normal”. He’s confused over liking a concept that’s completely foreign to him and with his personality, he won’t last long with living with “normal” forever. The happy couple/marriage vibe though? He’s on board and digs it, one-hundred percent. Especially in a house filled with childhood memories, it’s giving him ideas and changing what he perhaps would want in the future in ways he wouldn’t think of back then.

Jason:

Considering his childhood and how he went through the whole reincarnation cycle of dying and then reviving, it’s a desire he had as a kid but gave up right away. He didn’t even fathom that a day would come where he would experience what it would be like to be normal. Walking around and staying in the typical home most average people live in made him tense the first three days, even more so knowing this was where you lived since a child. Moving snow with you becomes his favorite pastime, where you’d distract from getting the job done and have him chase after you from the snowball that hits his back. Or bringing out steaming hot chocolate so his nose and hands would stop feeling as if they’re ready to fall off from the cold after cleaning up and helping you build a snow fort of all things. His hands are frequently on your waist from holding you up to string the lights and hang the decorations after you frown from his “aesthetic” way of placing them, pushing him to move aside so you could show how a real pro does it. It’s also his first time struggling to find time to get a present behind your back from being with you all the time. Eating meals together, taking walks together around the neighborhood and city, acting as bodyguard during grocery and Christmas shopping, spending time together as a couple in general in a house that’s warm, cozy, and peaceful as Jason Todd is a first. Not as Robin once dead and revived or Red Hood, the violent outlaw.  It’s a wish once buried in his heart on top of another where he’s spending time with you that comes true before the holiday. He’s emotional from being so happy, he doesn’t think of anything else other than wanting to live like this for the rest of his life.

Tim:

Contrary to the stereotypes depicted by the media, rich kids don’t spend time with their family; it's usually spent with their nanny as their parents leave them for long periods of time in a house too large for two people. Sure over the years he has healed with his friends and a new family. But it feels like a dream come true with you. He’s laughing and enjoying the soft fluffiness of white that gets all over him, freezing his nose and hands when he tries to clear the snow. He gets into it with you over how the lights and decorations should be placed inside and outside the house when you mentioned you want to outdo your neighbors, a set of blueprints and sketches drawn while debating that rainbow lights were better than the flickering, white ones. To much of his chagrin, he’s fumbling with all the things you toss at him when he helps you shop, him being in charge of the shopping cart as he stays in-line as you grab and bring back what’s needed in the store. Not that he’s complaining, his face suddenly tinted in red when you come back and slip your hand between his hand and the handle during the wait for the next opened cashier. Surprisingly enough, he doesn’t struggle with getting you a Christmas present and placing it under the tree. He had been keeping tabs since the day after Valentine’s Day on the things you’ve been looking at while relying on your habits he memorized to time things perfectly. Similar to Jason, he, too, wanted to live normally like any other person. Him getting to do that by prepping for the holiday with you heals the child in him, making him content and wishing the time the two of you currently have lasts forever.

vetinari is such a fascinating character to me because you cannot simply call him evil. he has all the aesthetic trappings of the Evil Ruler: a self-proclaimed tyrant, serious black robes, a devilish goatee, the tendency to raise an eyebrow or steeple his fingers in a grim manner, the torture chambers and dungeons in his palace, his wretched little pet that he loves so much, everyone is deathly afraid to cross him for fear of the Consequences, so on and so forth...

but he's not "EVIL". he doesn't take delight in senseless violence or act cruel for cruelty's sake. he's not ambitious or hungry for power. he's never a true antagonist, and is often working on the same side as the protagonists (or it might be more accurate to describe his role as a secret third thing). he's really not an unreasonable man on the whole. if vetinari is one thing, he's a pragmatist.

he considers idealism a waste of time because he knows his subjects too well for that. he can easily understand a cruel and villainous attitude, which is not the same thing as agreeing with it: with every new development in technology or society he immediately asks, "how are people going to exploit this? how could it be used dangerously?" not because he plans on doing it himself, but because it pays to know how somebody else will. ankh-morporkians agree: love him or hate him, vetinari's system works because it meets people where they're at.

I think what pratchett is telling us, in a nutshell, is to plan for the worst and hope for the best.

the relationship between vetinari and carrot is one I don't see discussed much (admittedly since it's not very substantial), but it's interesting to think about. in his interactions with carrot vetinari is usually bemused at best and impatient at worst, but we know he's plenty smart enough to recognize carrot's value and what he's capable of.

Some observations made by analysing boda pcs of people who have already married;

Pluto in the first house; almost always indicates a marriage between different religions. Though it also means you will be taking control of the wedding (emphasis on your responsibility during the wedding).

Retrograde planets; usually indicate tension or unexpressed feelings surrounding the wedding, but also shows delay depending on what is in retrograde (& where). Though it also represents letting go, relaxing & and adapting a more calm attitude i.e not being in control.

Aries in the 4th house typically means that your parents may not fully agree with this wedding or they may have reservations especially if mercury or mars are here & in retrograde.

Pisces stellium in the boda pc usually means the marriage will take place at a church or somewhere religious.

Reader manual: Every point that starts with ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ indicates that we've moved on into the next house. Asteroids/planets without it are within that house. I will be listing them in order from the 1st house to the 12th house. Including planets within them. Ex: Ari has populus (°2 taurus) & europa (° 5 leo) here. People were all complimenting the way she looked during her wedding, though not to the point of copying the type of dress or look for their own wedding, but everyone thought she looked wonderful.

Ex: Ariana has the same sign in her boda pc 2nd house. From the photos we've seen, her wedding (w Dalton) spared no expenses. It was classical yes but that dress was custom designer. Although the details of her wedding expenses remain unknown, I feel like she was definitely the one who splurged more on the count of Chiron being here.

Ex: Ariana has this placement, with moon here, most of her guests consist of close friends & family members only. Everyone felt that Dalton was a perfect match to Ariana ( grand trine between moon (2nd house-venus (11th house)-neptune (7th house)). All of them were very emotional & happy for her, especially her family.

Beyoncé has this placement in her boda pc too, except she has fama (retrograde), Saturn & mars (retrograde) here as well. Almost all of her guests are famous, and closely related to them in the industry.

I'm not sure if the venue of the wedding itself is foreign to them, but most of all, it's the situation. So the situation itself is hard to grasp. Perhaps they feel like they have to be more "presentable" than normal.

People will be very critical about my wedding. It might cause some sort of argument or some sort of chaos. Even if Jupiter is traditionally a benefic planet, what's most noticeable surrounding my wedding may be controversy or just people having their own thoughts or reservations on it. From my parents'pov, they may think that the wedding took place much quicker than they'd expect or hoped for. Perhaps a part of them will think we got married too soon (makes sense since my natal boda is in Aries ).

Ex: Ariana has the same IC & she also has Scorpio Jupiter (°10 Capricorn ) in retrograde here. Everyone was very surprised to learn that she was getting married so privately. They got a lot of mixed reactions too. It did feel quite sudden especially considering the events that happened prior to their relationship being public. For Ariana's parents, mainly her mother they felt like this was very sentimental yet still supportive of her daughter's marriage. Perhaps there was a sense of fear that she had kept to herself.

Fama (°21 Sagittarius) retrograde

It's definitely something that challenges what people would usually expect. Forcing them to look at a bigger picture or from a more open perspective than they normally would. A mix of cultures, a mix of beliefs & views on religion. Could be known for how spiritual or 'open' it is to the occult. (There could be a tarot reading corner for example, here it's actually quite taboo because my country is quite religious but I don't give a crap lol). Some guests from my husband's side might think I'm.. exotic lmao.

It's likely going to be the interactions between me & my spouse. People may think that they're so natural around each other even though they're different, or you may not expect it at first. The energy between me & my husband will be very friendly, & very close. The deco itself will draw a lot of attention for its grand aesthetic. People will think " that must be expensive". Perhaps there's something more to it than normal/what you'd usually see at a wedding.

So the venue may look rather eclectic but still have this elegant & cold vibe to it. I'm not sure if the wedding will take place at his place however. We might get married at the groom's house, but I'm not quite sure.

It may take a while to set everything up. Perhaps some things will be omitted from the ceremony because of issues with the organisers or courier. Perhaps some ideas turn out to be rather ambitious. Some things may be late or there may be requests that are too difficult to manage at the time. I may be in charge of coming up with ideas, but ultimately the organisers will be the ones actually setting everything up (according to what they're told or given inspiration by).

Beyoncé has Pluto (°26 Taurus) retrograde in the 4th house in Libra. Her mother is the one who chosed the design of her wedding dress. She was the one taking control in this area. It wasn't what you'd normally see Beyoncé in, instead it reflects more of what her mother has envisioned her daughter wearing. Still, it's the dress Beyoncé wore walking down that aisle.

Ariana Grande has Scorpio Pluto (°27 gemini) in retrograde in her 5th house. She chose not to sing or entertain the guests as most would have assumed she would. Instead, the focus of the wedding was just the bond between the couple. So it's likely the after-party was spent drinking & talking to the guests.

Although more than that, the wedding is in some way 'shocking'. Sort of like Beyoncé's wedding but ours will be under more scrutiny compared to her's since her's was almost kept completely a secret (8th house in Aquarius, Sun in pisces, pisces over the 8th house).

Mine will be revealed then & there (or perhaps even before) to the 'public'. So it'll stir up confusion, arguments along with the initial shock factor. Mars, Neptune & uranus here are such a dramatic combination though.

Regarding sex, perhaps we'll do some quickies here & there lmaooo. I don't think this is the first time we'll be intimate with each other. (Could be a possibility though, because mars in the 8th is a "taking" aspect). But it will feel like it. Perhaps we'll be trying something new? How exciting.

What's not exciting is that our wedding may cause a lot of tension in the people around us. Perhaps something about our wedding clashes with the norm? I can't exactly tell yet. Tense feelings, people saying all types of shenanigans following or even during the event.

The illusion comes from how unexpected, regal & almost unrealistic it is. A lot of what the marriage represents is going to cause great shock & disbelief (as I said, mostly because nobody expected the relationship at all let alone a marriage this soon).

It might be hard to control how it's going to be perceived at first. It's honestly more like the wedding guests are "stunned" than "enchanted".

They're still definitely here to support their son, even if they do not completely understand where he's coming from, or his intentions. They may see him as a little bit immature or acting at his own will i.e stubborn & impulsive. Though at the same time, they will be very emotional that their son is getting married, still wanting to support him on his special day.

He will be "the man in charge" throughout the wedding. I'll likely be looking at him quite often for reassurance, whether I'm doing something right or not. I don't think this means he'll be controlling however since Groom is in pisces. But he will be my rock throughout the ceremony.

We will be rather flirty with each other. It's in pisces, so we will definitely be enchanted by each other during the wedding. Maybe they have trouble seeing into their son's head lmao.

Moon is conjuncting the MC as well so.. wish me luck handling that. It seems they still have difficulties trying to grasp certain things about the union (semi-sextiles uranus in the 9th house).

This is our wedding, and that is all that matters. There is still that dreaminess beyond all that chaos.

The wedding will be seen as a big event. There may be some important guests as well. The wedding will be kept relatively private (small) but the talk & energy surrounding it will be big. People will always have something to say about it whether good or bad (aries + virgo).

My focus will be how people perceive the wedding. Trying to make it more relaxed and under control despite what may go down.

People will look up to my wedding as this big event that both came out of nowhere & at the same time long awaited. The atmosphere is very tense. I keep picturing Elsa's coronation in my head lol. All eyes on us, although with this placement (in aries & Scorpio degree, it may be rather tense even with venus's effects). It will shock, stun & mesmerise the guests and all who hear of it.

It may seem "larger than life". Normally this is where the love or beauty of the wedding is enhanced, but being in this situation.. it's still a bit difficult. However, it could also mean that my FS & I will be resilient and determined about our love regardless.

22 is the famous russian roulette degree lmao. It's meant to shake up a lot of people's perspectives. In the 10th house (aries) & Capricorn degree, it means that this will be the start of a new era for me & my future spouse. From here on, we will be a brand; husband & wife. People will always see us together as a pair. Which makes sense since we're married. Perhaps this also marks a pivotal point in our careers? People will remember this event long after it ends.

Example: Beyoncé has the same exact sign & degree in her Midheaven (Boda PC) . Her marriage to Jay-Z symbolises their brand as a pair in both daily lives & career. It's sort of considered as a big transition in her career life as well as in pop culture history. A moment of time that changed things going forward.

Example: It's a far cry from Beyoncé's wedding where it was very emotional & quote " everyone was crying". Her 12th house is cancer & moon is present which gives it that magical once in a lifetime moment feel.

Perhaps it'll be more similar to Ariana's wedding atmosphere.

How I'll see myself during the wedding, how I'll act or think

I'll be composed throughout the wedding. Perhaps feeling like I should look smart or something lol. The atmosphere may force me to be on my toes throughout the ceremony, being hyper aware of the things going on around me without making it obvious. I think I'd picture myself somewhat poised & well mannered throughout the ceremony. Since it's in the 12th house, perhaps there is this ideal I'm trying to pursue. Wanting to be seen as the perfect bride (at least the one I've imagined myself being). I'll likely be very emotional throughout the ceremony.

Ex: Similar to Ari, since her Broede is also in the 12th house, though in a Taurus degree as well (°2), hers is in Cancer. So she was much more relaxed during her wedding compared to how I'll be in mine.

In the end, what it is is a union between two people in love. Alternatives to "GM" in TTRPGs

Spurred by a recent post from @imsobadatnicknames2 that found its way into my feed by way of @anim-ttrpgs' addition (this post got too big to be a reblog sorry), I've been thinking about the influence of the terms we use for the host-and-narrator role in a TTRPG. Each tends to carry some connotations and implications as to what the role might entail, and these can influence how people play your game.

At best, this may enforce your intended roles for the game, alongside its themeing. At worst, your chosen term for this role may create false assumptions, and lead to people approaching it in a way that makes it unfun for them.

There's also an aesthetic component to consider! Having a term that matches your genre and vibe can go a long way! It's gonna be a balancing act— does the term change how people interact with your game enough to become a problem? Does it match and enforce your themes and aesthetics strongly enough to balance some of those problems out?

Below, I'm gonna go over a couple common (and uncommon) terms for this role and what I think their connotations, implications, and best usecases are here. These are gonna be beholden to my own biases, of course— and you may see different connotations entirely! Maybe it'll help folk think more about what terms they want to use!

---

"Game Master" is very gamey. It implies that this person is setting up a bunch of specific, pre-made mechanical challenges-- like an obstacle course. I will admit that it does have the weakest connotations of all the commonly used terms I'm aware of, though-- simply by virtue of it having become so commonplace across all sorts of games.

I think it works best with chunkier, mechanically heavy games. Due to it having a weak connotation, though, it won't hurt your game if you use it elsewhere, it is kind of the baseline these days, after all.

---

"Storyteller" implies that this person is sitting everyone down and telling them a story. Like putting on a play. There's an implication that they are going to be controlling most of the narrative here-- and that the players don't have as much say in it.

It's also technically incorrect, given that...well, the players are storytellers too! The point of these games is to tell a story together!

It can work for more narratively focused games, it has some lighthearted, cutesy vibes that can be a good fit for some-- but its connotations can lead to this person taking more control than you may actually intend for them to have in your game.

It's one that I don't think accurately fits a lot of games, and is chosen more for its aesthetics and vibes. (Something I have done before, and with time it bothers me more and more.)

"Narrator" is the opposite of Storyteller-- it implies, to me, that this person has less say in the narrative than the players. They are there to impartially narrate and describe the world's reactions to what the players do, little else. A passive observer, almost.

I think it can still work fine for plenty of games-- especially those with contemporary settings. It's the sort that, to me, feels more suited to sandboxy games that are more focused on providing a bunch of simulationist tools for players to poke and prod the world with, rather than on telling a structured narrative.

"Dungeon Master" is particularly genre-limited. It carries a lot of the same implications that GM does, but for fantasy games in specific-- especially dungeon crawlers.

Only making a special note of it here since it is tied to A Particularly Big Game in the community. Its connotations are much stronger than GM's, though, and it feels out of place in rules light games— unless they are specifically set in a dungeon.

"Director" is one that can have drastically different implications depending on the background of who reads it. If they're a film buff, they'll think it implies that this role has final say on everything, and retains high levels of control that the players do not share. Very much akin to Storyteller.

However if the person reading it is more familiar with video games, and the Left 4 Dead series (and games inspired it) in particular, they'll see the Director role as something more reactive and behind the scenes. They may think this person is responsible for improvising and presenting the players with challenges and scenarios that match their current situation— be it narrative or mechanical.

There may have been a specific plan made ahead of time, but it is filled with a ton of contingencies, with an expectation that improv will fill in the gaps.

Though like Narrator, the L4D type of Director implies a somewhat passive, observer role that isn't meant to have a say in the story.

I think most people will see it with film connotations rather than the Left 4 Dead connotations— which is unfortunate, considering that the L4D type of Director is actually really well suited for certain types of TTRPGs. I think "Game Director" vs "Director" may help alleviate this somewhat, but I'm unsure how effective it'd be as I don't think most people share the L4D brain association I do.

"Referee," "Arbiter," "Judge," and "Moderator" all share the same problem as Narrator-- but 10 times worse. These are all heavily laced in passive connotations-- and imply that this person is there simply to determine the outcomes of mechanical situations, but has no say in the narrative.

They can work nicely with like, sports or competition TTRPGs in specific, though.

"Master of Ceremonies (MC)" implies that you're not playing a game, but that this person is about to lead you through an awards ceremony, drop some bars, or host some stuffy 500 year old regal event called "the Ceremony of the Ballet Fish" or something.

I don't think this one fits in TTRPGs like, at all, frankly. I just cannot imagine someone in that role being referred to as an "MC" unless we're talking about a game that is specifically about a ceremony, or rap.

"Caretaker" implies that this person's role is to maintain and care for the world, game, and story. It implies that they not only facilitate the garden you're all playing in, but that they also trim or rearrange it to suit everyone's needs-- including their own.

I actually think this one is very nice. It doesn't imply that they're an absolute monarch, nor does it imply that they're a passive observer. It also manages to encapsulate the amount of background work the role can often require, without taking away their say in the resulting narrative.

A Caretaker has agency in the story, while remaining cognizant and receptive of the players' agency, too.

This works really well for games focused on telling collaborative narratives, but I think it can also work fairly well for mechanically focused ones as well. It feels pretty versatile!

This one is new to me and I honestly might start using it for my games going forward, unless someone knows of a common connotation I'm unaware of!

"Facilitator," and "Host" both imply that this person provides the space and tools for the game, and nothing else. They handed the players the keys, told them to lock up after they're done, and left to go do sick flips in their motorcycle or something nerds do.

To me, the term by itself implies this person has very little to do with the actual game. I don't think these work any better than, say, GM, without a thematic justification.

Host could be amazing for some sort of bio-horror game— or for a game show RPG. Facilitator feels DoA to me. Both, however, could work if your game really is set up so the Facilitator/Host just provides tools to the players and does little else.

"Guide" implies that this person takes on a fairly hand-holdy role in leading the players through the game and its narrative. Maybe not quite railroading, but they definitely do a lot to keep the players on track.

This one, I feel, carries some "teacher" connotation— as if this person is responsible for teaching the players the rules. It's on them, not the players, to read and remember the actual rules.

I feel that this connotation largely ruins what good this term could do.

But, it can still work well in certain cases. If your game really is meant to have a focused, linear narrative, it can work quite well. The same goes for specific genres or settings— such as anything dealing with camping, national parks, or tourism.

"Overseer" taken at face value, actually could be pretty apt. They'd be someone who oversees the game and does what they can to keep things fun.

Unfortunately, due to the word's use in workplace environments and dystopian fiction— it has some pretty heavy cultural connotations that turn it more into a dictator role. They have complete and total control over the game and its narrative, even if the players disagree with their choices.

I think it can work well for games that deal with dystopian or corporate settings, where this person might actually be meant to have more control, or simply for the flavor— but not a ton else.

"Producer" is vaguely similar to the film-style Director-- in the sense that it comes from film. However, unlike the Director, a Producer coordinates and works together with the players to tell their story. It's a more collaborative role that shares power and agency more evenly with the table.

This also somewhat accurately implies the amount of work that goes into the role, much like the Caretaker.

However, given its origins, it doesn't imply they're playing a game— I can't entirely explain why, but it feels similar to MC in this sense. The term is very heavily entrenched in its origins, and carries strong film connotations— even though, yes, video games have producers too!

I think it'd be rad to see games using this, though. In time the strong film connotations may shake off! Like Caretaker, I think it's fairly versatile and could be well suited for a wide variety of games.

Niche terms such as keeper, warden, overlord, president, deity, and fixer are always worth considering, too! These tend to just be one-offs used in a specific TTRPG, that suit their setting and tone in particular.

Now, each can and does have its own implications and connotations to consider— weigh those against how well it serves the vibes of your game before you lock in!

"Host and Narrator (HAN)" implies the same things that these terms do separately-- but combines them to offset (some of) their downsides. This implies that they host and provide the tools needed for playing the game, yes, but also that they actually stick around to narrate and respond to the players.

When Narrator is combined with Host here, I think this also transforms into something a little closer to the Caretaker— as the Host and Narrator both, they have more of an active role in maintaining the space (and story) they've provided.

It feels similarly versatile, as a result. I just made this one up and don't know if there are any games that use it already, it could have legs— it is a little dry and flavorless, though. This may give it a potential leg up on Caretaker, which does have a lil bit of a lighthearted vibe that may feel off in, say, a horror game.

Summary - You and Tara's relationship starts to develope more, but you're worried it's all an act so Tara proves herself to you.

The sound of your alarm fills the room and for the first time in awhile you don't press snooze.

It's odd it's like you have more energy today than usual. Tara is taking up all your thoughts and when you're deciding what to wear today you spend a little more time doing it, subconsciously trying to look better for her.

Even though you two basically just met you couldn't help it, what wasn't there to like about her?

You even put on a little bit of makeup today.

After you finish getting ready you grab your backpack, straps still broken, and start to walk to school.

Its a beautiful day outside. The perfect amount of clouds, not too hot, not too cold.

A car comes by and stops by you. Your first thought was that it was the jerks who splashed you yesterday finding a different way to torment you since it was now dry.

Maybe they'd pour water bottles over your head or something.

You were gladly surprised when the passenger side window rolls down the window and it's Mindy. "y/n! Get in!"

"Say less." You say and quickly rush into the back seat, about to toss your backpack till you realized Tara was back here as well.

You opt to putting your bag by your feet. Tara was smiling at you which you smile back.

"Thanks for the ride." You say addressing the rest of car realizing it's Chad in the front.

"Its no problem, we got the space."

"So," Tara says dragging out the o while putting a new empty backpack on your lap. "What is this?"

"It's a new backpack what does it look like?" Tara pats the top of the backpack.

"Yeah but why?" The backpack fits your aesthetic well and most importantly it has actual straps on it.

"Chad and I got it for you, just consider it a gift for what happened yesterday." You look to the front and see Chad and Mindy smiling at each other.

"Thank you guys." You start moving your stuff from your broken bag to your new one.

"Uh yeah it's no problem." Chad replies like he's hiding something while Tara is just looking at you smiling.

Mindy looks back giving Tara a look before meeting eye contact with you.

"Are you wearing makeup? you never wear wakeup." You find yourself blushing.

"I just felt like it today I don't know."

"Mhm" Mindy gives you a suspicious look before looking at Tara one more time and then looking back through the front windshield.

You look at Tara again and you both make eye contact, suddenly remembering how close you guys were last night your face gets redder than before and you force your eyes out the window to hide your face.

A few minutes pass of you staring at the buildings and trees passing by until you arrive at school. You all get out of the car simultaneously and start walking but Mindy holds you back for a second.

"It was just Tara."

"What?" You reply in a whisper, confused on what she's talking about.

"The backpack, she got it for you, Chad wasn't involved." Mindy, keeping her voice low, pats your shoulder before going to catch up with the others.

"I'm gonna go to the cafeteria I'll see you guys later kay?" The three all turn around and give you a thumbs up.

You walk into the classroom and see Tara near the front talking to her friends before she sees you, she is practically beaming when she notices you.

When you go to sit down in your usual spot, Tara stands up with her stuff and takes the spot next to you. "You keep forgetting this."

She slides over your chapstick. "You're the one who keeps forgetting to give it to me." You reply back with a smile.

You look towards the front and see Amber and Liv looking back at you with mischievous smiles.

"So is talking to me a game still or?" You say teasingly to Tara.

"If it is a game it would be my favorite one." Your face flushes pink at the remark, Tara smirking a bit seeing you flustered.

"They still think it's a game, they don't know that I like you." Tara's face goes red realizing what she just said.

"Not like, like!" she whisper yells at you and you're holding back a smile.

"Stop making that face!" Tara says before shoving a notebook in your face.

"Hey stop that!" you try to push the notebook out of your face while giggling.

Liv and Amber look at each other confused before looking at Chad.

"What's happening? Tara is acting too, you know, actually friendly." Liv questions Chad like he'd know.

"I don't know." Chad shrugs while trying to hide a smile. Tara told Chad what happened last night, but of course doesn't want Liv and Amber to know that.

Liv and Amber look back at y/n and Tara before the bell rings and class starts. Tara stayed next to you during class and that didn't go unnoticed by Liv and Amber.

You and Tara walk together while you can before you have to split up because you don't have the same next period together.

"So what's their deal? Liv and Amber I mean." You look towards Tara who's takes a second to respond.

"Well Liv is just an asshole, I don't really like her but I put up with her because she's dating Chad. I have no idea what he sees in her." You nod at her, waiting to hear more as she takes another moment.

"Amber just kinda reflects the loudest person in the room if that makes sense. She's fine when she's not around Liv but she's insufferable with her."

"I see" You look at Tara one more time. "Well my class is this way so I'll see you later."

You point to the direction you need to go before waving bye to Tara. "Kay, seeya later." She says while waving back, with a little smile on her face.

You walk into your next class and take your seat near the back of the class, and then Amber approaches you.

"Hey, can I talk to you for a second?" You look up at her.

"Do I have to?"

"No but I know something you might wanna know." Amber looks down at you.

"No thanks, you can go to your seat now." She gives me one more look before taking a step back.

"Alright if you say so, I guess I won't tell you what I was gonna tell you about Tara." She says with a smug look on her face.

"What?"

"Oh have I peeked your interest?" Amber says teasingly. "Well Tara doesn't actually like you you know, it's all an act."

You look at her with a suspicious face unsure what to say.

"Yeah I know. its all just a 'game' right? to talk to the quiet kid." You do air quotations whenever you say game.

"I don't think you understand." Amber continues. "All of it is, even what she's doing now. She's going to build you up to take away the weak foundation for you to crumple."

You look at her still suspicious, she still has that smug smile on her face. Truth is, this was always a thought in the back of your mind, but you only let it stay back there. Until now, now that the possibility has been brought to light.

"I don't believe you, is that all?" Amber raises her eyebrows before turning around to walk to her desk.

She turns around to see a little doubt in your face. She did what Liv told her to do, to plant the idea into your head.

The bell rings and you head to the cafeteria for lunch. Whenever you're in front of the cafeteria Tara approaches you with a smile

"Hey y/n! I just wanted to see if you wanted to do something together during lunch."

You instinctively want to agree but the thoughts in your head hold you back.

"I'm sorry I kinda wanna be alone during lunch today." You say looking at the ground like it's the most interesting thing here.

"You sure? like positive."

"Yeah I just wanna be alone for a bit." Tara looks at your face for a moment with a confused look on her face.

"If you say so." Tara turns around and heads to her friends.

"What's up? not 'hanging out' with y/n?" Mindy questions Tara, making quotation marks with her fingers when she says hanging out.

Mindy is also aware that Liv and Amber aren't supposed to know what's happening

"No, I don't know what happened."

"Maybe she just wants to be alone." Mindy says while taking a bite of her food.

Tara quickly skims over that. "Did you two say anything to her?" Looking at Liv and Amber.

"No, what would we have told her?" Amber is quick to respond.

"I don't know, it's just weird." Tara looks back to try to find you in the cafeteria but fails.

Out of her sight Amber and Liv look at each other with mischief in their eyes.

The school day ends and you start to walk home by yourself.

"Y/n wait!" Tara says speeding up her walk to catch up with you.

"I told Chad and Mindy I'd walk home with you." She says with a smile. "Is that alright?"

"Yeah that's cool." you give her a patient smile, unsure how you should feel right now.

The idea that Amber planted in your head is starting to take root and you needed to be proven what's right and what's wrong.

"Are you okay?" Tara gives you a troubled look while we're walking. "You look concerned about something."

"I think so, I'm just a little confused."

"About what?" Our pace slows down as we occasionally glance at each other while we're walking.

"I'm just worried that this might be a part of the game as well" You gesture your hand between you and Tara.

"You think I'd buy you a backpack for some stupid social game that I'm being put up to?"

"No I'm just concerned is all. I believe you more than doubt you, but there is still doubt. I don't wanna be played with you know?"

There is a few seconds of silence before you speak again.

"Hold on, I thought you said it was you and Chad who got me the backpack?" Tara's face brightens up a little bit.

"That's what I meant."

"That's not what Mindy told me." You say glancing at Tara with a slight smug expression on your face.

"Mindy told you?" confirming what Mindy said to me is true.

"That bitch! I told her not to tell you!" You smile while looking at the ground. A few more seconds pass before the conversation continues.

"Back to what we were talking about." Tara says trying to change the subject.

"How about I prove it to you." You both stop walking for a moment. "What do you mean?"

"How about I take you out somewhere, and not just my house to watch a movie. I can prove my true intentions."

You look her in the eyes. "That seems like it'll be kinda difficult to prove don't you think?"

"I don't think so, I'll find a way." She looks at you with a hopeful smile that you'll never get over. "Are you free the rest of the day?" You say trying to initiate the plans, eager just to spend more time with her.

"Yeah, how about we... Oh! I heard there's a festival carnival thingie in town!" Tara says looking at you with excitement.

You think you're becoming obsessed with this girl, or at least you definitely will if she keeps looking at you like you're celebrity or something.

"That sounds fun to me." You return her energy with a smile.

"Then what are we waiting for!" Tara grabs your hand and starts running, practically dragging you.

"Tara slow down!" You practically fall over at the speed the girl is dragging you, your face heating up as you stare at your interlocked hands.

You both arrive at the carnival, your hands still interlocked.

"Two seconds in and I already need cotton candy." Tara is practically drooling already approaching the cotton candy stand. "Do you want any?"

"I'm okay, maybe I'll get funnel cake later though."

Tara already has her cotton candy and is dragging you to explore. At one of the games you see the ugliest frog plushie you've ever seen as the top prize to a ring toss game.

It was a green frog, probably the size of your torso, and it's eyes were slightly too far apart and it probably needed more fluffing based on how it bent in on itself.

Its perfect.

"Oh my God I actually need it!" You practically yell, you now being the one dragging Tara.

"Hold my beer." Tara hands you her cotton candy and goes to play the ring toss.

You watch as she fails every single ring toss. She plays it again, and again, and once more. Failing each time.

"Its okay Tara I don't need it that bad."

"No! I'll win this." She turns to look at you.

"For you."

she says with a serious face causing your face to heat up a little.

"Well you might wanna lock in this time because you haven't even won a lower end prize, the one I want is a top prize." You say teasingly.

She clearly didn't wanna hear that as you hear her sigh. She focuses, sticking her tongue out a little.

She tosses her first ring, finally succeeding a throw, which surprises you but she doesn't let it affect her.

She tosses another, than another, she's on her last ring till she wins top prize.

If you were sitting, you would be on the edge of your seat.

She tossed the final ring and it feels like it's in slow motion, the ring gliding through the air and slides right onto the bottle.

"Tara you did it!" You grab the girl into a hug and spin her around. When you set her down you jump in place as the guy gets the plushie off the rack for you. You grab it and instantly go to hug Tara again.

"Thank you! thank you! thank you!" You're jumping while hugging her. Whenever you set her down your eye contact lock together.

You look at her like she put the stars in the night sky just for you, and not just winning a plushie from a carnival game.

"Come on let's keep moving." She says with a big smile, admiring how much pure joy is emanating off you.

The interruption makes you realize how long you were admiring her, causing you to feel butterflies in your stomach.

"Okay!" You have the biggest grin on your face as you hand Tara back her cotton candy.

"You're beer." Tara let's out a short laugh.

"Ah yes, my beer."

You're walking around together looking at all the different attractions.

"So what are you going to name it?" Tara asks you. bringing attention to your new addition to the family.

"Oh my God I totally forgot about that part." You stop for a moment to think. "What about..."

You instantly think about naming it Kermit for a second till you scratch the over used idea off your mental list. "Oh! what about Luigi?"

Tara gives you a look. "Luigi?"

"Yeah, because he's green and he's a carpenter right? Like you know, your last name."

You instantly face palm yourself after the realization that you're wrong. "No wait he's a plumber, nevermind I'll come up with the name later."

Tara just stares at you for a second in awe of what you just said. "You're a dork." She says taking your hand again as you both continue walking.

After exploring for awhile, going on multiple rides, and doing some attractions, it's starting to get dark and the string lights at the carnival turn on.

"Its starting to get late, how about we go on the ferris wheel and then we can head out?" You nod to Tara's request as you both head to the ferris wheel hand in hand.

It feels nice to let your feet rest for a second after you sit down. The ferris wheel rocks as it starts causing you to bump into Tara. "Sorry."

"It's okay." Tara smiles at you as she scoots closer to you till your shoulders touch. She stares out the window with you, both of you taking in the moment till you reach near the top.

"It's beautiful" you say admiring the view. The lights of the booth highlighting your features, the reflection of city lights in your eyes.

"Yeah" Tara says while admiring you, staring at you like you hung up the moon just for her.

"Can I prove to you now it's not just a game?" You turn to look at her to see the raw emotion in her eyes. You'll never get over the way this girl looks at you, no one has ever looked at you with so much admiration.

So much passion.

"Can I kiss you?" Tara glances down to your lips before admiring the rest of you. You nod slowly, waiting for her to make the first move.

She puts her hand to your cheek as she closes the distance. The instance your lips touch you grab the side of her face, pulling her more into the kiss.

You haven't been talking to each other long but you both were longing for this moment.

It felt as if you opened your eyes you would be seeing fireworks, or the lights of the Ferris wheel breaking, or something just from the pure emotion of the kiss.

You put your hand on her knee as you push even further into the kiss.

Before the kiss gets any further, the ferris wheel stops, rocking the cart back and forth causing you both to tumble over breaking the kiss.

You fell on top of her. "I'm so sorry!"

You realize how close you are to her and quickly get off her, your heart about to beat out of you chest, your face flushed red.

She's sits up giggling, the emotion portrayed in her eyes are still raw as she admires all your features.

You were about to go for another kiss until you remember where you are and the door to the Ferris Wheel opens.

The operator stares at you both, impatience covered his face as he waited for you both to leave the Ferris Wheel.

You both start to walk out of the carnival.

"So... did I prove it to you?" Tara looks at you with hope in her eyes.

You nod with no hesitation with a dopy grin on your face. She takes your hand as you walk her to her house.

You both arrive at Tara's house, stopping in front of her door. "Can I do something more to prove its more than a game?"

You look at her before nodding, waiting for her to continue.

"I want us to be official, together I mean, like girlfriends." Tara looks longingly at you.

"Unless you don't wan-"

"Yes." You speak too quickly while nodding your head, the dumbest grin on your face.

"A thousand times yes!"

Tara grabs your face with both hands and kisses your forehead. "Goodnight, girlfriend. message me when you're home."

Tara says with a smile while turning to go inside, looking at your one more time while she closes the door.

You walk down the steps glancing back at the door with a smile. Unable to contain you're excitement, you practically skip the whole way home while holding your frog plushie.

y/n: "heyy i made it home :)"

Tara: "good :)) oh and btw you forgot this again"

She sends you a picture of your chapstick

y/n: "literally how, you gave it to me today."

You go to your backpack and find the chapstick she returned to you.

You see another notification on your phone.

Tara: "did I trick you? I so totally tricked you"

You roll your eyes before typing out your response

Before going to bed you look at the plushie Tara won for you, finally thinking of a name for them.

We as a fandom need to open our hearts to the insane comedic potential of Sir Pentious being included as a background character in stories taking place in the "old days" before Vox and Alastor's falling out. AND the comedic potential of one-sided Sir Pentious -> Vox.

Why?

Canon!Sir Pentious is attached to his era's aesthetics but he also wants to be "hip and cool" (see pilot episode; Sir Pentious as the how do you do fellow kids meme) and join the "Almighty Vees". When did he start wanting that? He's not a media demon trying to keep up with his audience and be a likeable public figure. He's a mechanic trying to conquer Hell by force thanks to his machines and obviously relishes in acting like a villain (fear me! I'm so evil! I'm the architect of destruction! etc. etc).

This is very different from the Vees' approach - maintaining a perfect public image, insidious manipulation tactics... Vox threatens Alastor in the show, but the Vees clearly haven't built their power through turf wars, which is and has always been Pentious' one and only strategy. All the machines we've seen him make are war weapons (+ the Egg Boyz who do his bidding, and help him operate those very weapons). Voxtek probably sells weaponry too but that is more Camilla's domain, so it would be more logical for Pentious to try and join her.

Pentious' and the Vees agenda and interests aren't aligned, so why is Pentious so desperate to join the Vees?

there are many reasons why Pentious could want to be part of the Vees besides the one I'm gonna talk about but you know what MY agenda is:

Vox is Pentious' idol. Pentious is an inventor, an innovator. He would have loved waking up in Hell with a mechanical body he can upgrade however he wants and finds the whole concept fascinating.

He's not against new technology, as his creations clearly go beyond what people could have had invented in his time despite their "steampunk" aesthetic (see: the effing death ray). So I think his current "limitations" are more a matter of him having to stick with what he knows best because it's hard to keep up with the constant stream of new tech. This is why he's more than impressed with Vox's extraordinary ability to adapt to change and master new technologies again and again. He's a fellow innovator! That's one reason for Pentious to be obsessed with the guy.

And if you think obsessed isn't the right word, think about this: Sir Pentious repeatedly challenges Alastor to fights even though he's clearly outmatched and it's an incredible risk to take considering what Alastor does. Pentious is OLDER than Alastor, he was there when he broadcast the most powerful Overlords' scream all over Hell. Plus, losing always leaves him in a very vulnerable position (without his best weapons). Is it madness? Hubris? An obsession for Alastor? No!

Sir Pentious to Alastor: Silence! Now Cower! For when I've slain you, the Almighty Vees will finally acknowledge me!

Sir Pentious thinks defeating Alastor is the only way the Vees will finally acknowledge him. No matter how dangerous it is, he has to try, for the Vees (Vox). Just like he took the risk of angering the Princess of Hell to get in Vox's good graces. This says a lot, for someone as paranoid as him, who doesn't trust anyone who is "too nice" to him.

If Hazbin had more episodes there should have been one about Pentious struggling with the fact he disappointed his idol and told to KHS 👀

(btw this is old news but we know that one of the Hazbin episodes that Viv originally pitched was about a science contest organized by Voxtek in which Pentious and Baxter competed against each other! Pentious could have done that after ep2!)

Anyway, back to the comedic potential of it all & Vox's arrival in Hell. Can you imagine his reaction as a newly fallen Sinner, when he's hanging out with Alastor (aka following him like a lost puppy?) and he meets Sir Pentious for the first time? Like sure, Hell is full of insane people but Alastor obviously has a Reputation and no one ever challenges him. And suddenly... Hm... Alastor?? There's an airship with a giant cannon pointed right as us?? Firing a DEATH RAY?!

It's also so funny to imagine Sir Pentious being obsessed with Alastor and considering him his archnemesis back in the day, only to slowly become obsessed with Vox instead and only caring about defeating Alastor because he thinks Vox will like it. It starts with Sir Pentious trying to "gather intel" on Alastor's new "ally", spying on them or sending his Egg Boyz to do so (and we already know great he is at spying so you can guess how that goes lol), and the rest is history.
