A Guide to Physics Tutor!Nanami
I've gotten a couple messages from people who are confused about how to read this series, so here is an explanation:
All the smaus on Physics tutor!Nanami are connected
They are listed in my masterlist in order
They cannot be read in standalone
For example: the smau titled 'Newton's first law' is broken down like so
pre-relationship
first pic: of their first text conversation once Yaga assigns Nanami to reader as a tutor Second and third pic follows from the drunk party incident from the last smau second pic: reader begs for a second chance and nanami agrees, third pic: fast forward a couple weeks later, reader is distant because she doesn't want to stop being tutored by him and nanami notices
established relationship
fourth pic: follow a major moment in their relationship where the girl that was mentioned in the previous physics tutor!nanami becomes a sore point for them, reader reaches a breaking point and asks for a break which nanami doesn't fight against fifth pic: reader asks to come over and they kinda begin to get closer again but the girl pops up and reader pulls away once more sixth pic: after 2 weeks of the break, neither of them can stand it anymore and they realise no issue's too big for their love for each other but reader needs reassurance so she asks him when did he know he loves her (remember he's had a crush on her since the first day of first year and has fallen more and more through every tiny glimpse of her)
There is an intentional and purposeful sense of ambiguity in the timeline because it jumps back and forth in order to create a sense of drama.
Think of an episode of Vampire Diaries or Grey's Anatomy where there are flashbacks which serves to tie in with the main story.
Having both pre and during relationship texts creates a contrasts that highlights their respective developments
Such as Nanami getting used to reader's flirtatious nature
There are also reveals about Nanami's thoughts during their pre-relationship moments which adds context to his behaviour or messages
My intention with this not so straightforward means of storytelling is to create layers and depth to the characters
It's supposed to be one of those series where as I post, avid readers will pick up on easter eggs that makes rereading a previous post exciting
------
update:
The previous layout for Physics tutor!Nanami came before I decided to make the EdenU au what it is today, so the story telling layout has changed, even Nanami's after the part 0.5s.
All the parts before part 1 were of the old layout, whereby each smau were divided between pre-relationship and established relationship texts.
Now, the smaus after part 1 are all pre-relationship, following a linear timeline but one that intersects the old layout.
So the new parts actually build up to the part 0.5s, providing more context and depth to those previous snapshots, until we've been caught up to after reader's distant period and Nanami attending the party willingly to talk to her
If you are still confused, just drop me a message.
Hope this helps!

A Fizziepop Take: Let’s talk about the anti-Blitz bash
I’m still fairly new to Reddit, but I saw this post on it and I wanna talk about it. No hate to the OG Reddit poster or anyone else who shares this opinion, I just have some thoughts about it, so let’s get into it because I actually get the “Fuck Blitz Party”.
Ok, so we all know that Blitz, while being a definite fan favorite in the show, and the shows literal namesake, Blitz is bad at love, BUT in order to talk about why this party is actually “necessary” in a way, we first need to talk about Blitz and his ideas of what love is vs what kind of “love” he himself deserves. Within the fragmented bits of flashbacks and from what we’ve actually heard from the mouths of the characters, we’ve been able to start piecing together backstories for some of them…. But as of right now, I wanna look at the bits and pieces of Blitz’s past that we’ve been slowly accumulating throughout the last 2 seasons because we get to see a lot of what made him the way he is now. Starting off strong, we have an abusive father, a best friend turned enemy, a sister gone no contact, and the tragic death of a mother…. Yikes. Thats like 4 tiers on a tragedy cake, which is why it so heavily influences how he experiences love as an adult; trauma changes the brain chemistry, meaning that from the first time his father spoke down to him and treated him as lesser than Barbie and/or Fizz, the imp’s perception of himself and the world around him began to shift, and with each new trauma came a new sense of everything within and around him. Within his formative years, we see him lose the 3 close relationships (his mom, his sister, and his best friend), and it happens literally one after the other after the other, which in his mind solidified the ideas of worthlessness his father planted in him at such a young age.
What does this all have to do with Blitz’s exes hating him enough to throw a party about it in the current day? I know a lot of people hate this phrase (myself included honestly), but “hurt people, hurt people”. It’s a cheap line, I know, but there’s not too many ways to explain it that don’t boil down to this idea at it’s core when it comes to Blitz…. But here’s the thing: Blitz never truly wants to hurt anyone, he just kinda does it and even he doesn’t understand completely why he feels the need to fuck up every good thing he seems to get his hands on. On the outside looking in, we as an audience know that Blitz is bad at love because he’s been conditioned to equate his worth with what he can give/what he can do (think of how his dad manipulated him into stealing from stolas, or no one seemed to laugh during his jokes in the circus), and this mentality strongly affected how he’s able to cultivate relationships now because he’s still constantly looking at all his relationships as transactional because it’s the only way he believes he deserves to be loved by anyone. A lot of people say that you can’t love someone until you love himself, meaning that Blitz’s own self hatred is holding him back from meaningful relationships, which is true, but it’s less a case of the imp being unable to love and more a case of him being uncomfortable with intimacy and therefore not entirely knowing how to accept or show it. We that man has so much love in his body to give to those he surrounds himself with that it is almost sickening, but because he’s not comfortable with receiving the same type of loving energy he puts into others, when it happens and someone shows a genuine interest in him past just sex, he panics and goes on the offense. Think of him like a dog who’s been attacked by other dogs; after the first time, they might be a little scared, after the second, they’ll probably start to become a little more skittish and on edge when other dogs approach them even if its someone they once enjoyed being near, but by the third and fourth times its happened, that dog will start viewing every other dog as a potential threat and they’ll react by being the aggressor because “if I hurt them first, they can’t hurt me”.
I know by this point, everyone is probably still like “Fizzie, why does this mean that his exes hate him enough to throw a party like that?” and “How did he date that many people?”
Simply put: Blitz didn’t “date” all those people. If I had to guess, I would honestly say he probably only ever had real relationships with about a quarter of the people at the party. Why is that? Because I Blitz used sex as a coping mechanism for most of his life… if I were to go based solely on vibes, I think this likely started because his father realized he could rent his son out for more “playdates” after what happened with Stolas when they were children, meaning that he would have equated sex with being desired, and I think for a long time being desired in any way was better than not being wanted at all in his eyes… But with his fear of intimacy and being left to rot after having fallen for someone, I think he took the hurt them before they hurt me approach, so I think a lot of the people there were in a mostly one-sided relationship with him, one that Blitz never truly viewed as romantic intimate relationships, hence why he says he can’t believe he’s fucked that many people rather than dated that many. Looking at things from this perspective, it would make a lot more sense since Blitz not viewing most relationships as exclusive would mean he potentially had his connections and fun with multiple people within the same timeline. Do I think Blitz is a cheater? Not by nature, but I also think that when he was using this mentality anyone who wanted to have a relationship with him where he didn’t wander from their bed would have had to explicitly specify that to him, and I think that a lot of these exes either assumed he would hold their relationship to the same standards they did or, when they would bring it up or mention the word ‘love’ in anything more than a joking manner, he would cut and run, likely doing something in the end to show them that he was not worth the love they attempted to pour into him, like he did with Verosika.
Assuming this is the way things went down with the exes at the party, it’s likely that a lot of them never truly got the closure they needed to fully heal from hurricane Blitz… And though I don’t think he ever meant to hurt this many people to that point, I think it was a sort of wakeup call to him to see that not only have these people trauma bonded over him to the point where the party is almost like a support group for these people, but it also opened his eyes to how Stolas felt about him because he was at this party to essentially drink the heartbreak away for the night. Despite the end of Stolitz being heartbreaking, I think that the party scenes were necessary to the beginning of Blitz’s personal growth story-line, and the potential beginning of a better version of the Stolitz we all love.
Anyway… as always this is only the humble opinion of a simple Fizziepop, and I’d love to know what other people think about the annual gathering of his exes to trauma bond over one man. I personally love the way it plays into Stolas and Blitz’s breakup and healing arcs…. And also I’m a pisces so I do tend to be a lil dramatic sometimes and live for things and people as dramatic and extra as I tend to be.

F1 Predictions (Pre-testing)
These are my predictions for the 2025 season. My predictions are made without real data, but just how the last couple of races went. This is prior testing, so it is all based on the 2024 season.
Let me know what you think and if I totally make no sense. Post testing I will have a clearer view of cars and drivers.
I would love it if you could reblog, so other people could speak some facts that can help me make the list better.<3
WCC This is not in order, yet!
Mclaren-We have all seen how Mclaren improved their car a lot since the last summer break and I won't be surprised if they win the WCC again. They have two good drivers and I am sure they will have a good shot at a drivers championship too(if they fix the random teamorders and just have a clear strategy.)
Ferrari- With the seventh world champion, Lewis Hamilton, entering the Italian team, the team is ready to not become second again. Leclerc will hope he can win his first Championship and Hamilton will still be hungry for an eighth one. I think dynamics would change a bit in the team. If they keep it consistent, (please Ferrari work on your tyre strategy, what the fuck was canada), they could have a good shot at it.
Mercedes- The Austrian team has made improvements during the season, but not enough to come even close to consider third in standings. Next to that, they will have a rookie in the team and even if this is considered a top team, it won't be weird if Antonelli doesn't score a win. I do think Russell has a high chance of a fourth win, if they can keep his car at the correct weight. (Like you have one job, don't break the simplest rule to follow.) Their standing would mostly be based on how fast the rookie can adapt to the formula 1 car with his lack of experience.
Red Bull- Where to fucking start man. This team is so bipolar. ( supporting this team, apart form HM and CH, this season has been a rollercoaster,) Do I think the driver change was smart, not completely, but I understand why, and I am scared for Lawson if he doesn't perform well in the first couple races. I wouldn't know who they would move up, because Tsunoda has never crossed their minds apparently.
This team had a bit of a 'downfall' in the middle eight races, but managed to go back on top in the end. I don't think they will win it, as much as I hope, half the team is leaving and it is falling apart. I hope they can at least be racing for podiums and I need Ver5tappen.(Delulu) Even though Lawson isn't a rookie, having a total of 11 races, I do think it would be difficult.
Aston Martin- I have hope for upgrades. As much as it pains me to see Newey leave red bull, I hope that the green car can finally become a bit faster. Who doesn't want a third Fernando Alonso Championship. Top of the pyramid is probably out of reach, but closer to the 4 top teams needs to be possible.
Alpine-Briatore and Oakes have upgraded that team and the car isn't overweight anymore( I think)Doohan has had one race, so he need to practise a bit. Then he also has the problem of Colapinto taking over his seat if he doesn´ t perform well. They need to work on their brakes and engine. Now the thing is that most of their points are scored in brazil and without the probably be p8. So I don't really know.
Haas- After Guenter left, this team has improved. They were close to p6 in standings, but Brazil was heaven sent for Alpine. They do have two new drivers, Ocon who is of course quite experienced so that shouldn't be a problem. Bearman has set out high expectations in his three race starts. They have a high chance of best of the rest.
Williams- In my mind the scored more points this season, but the those crashes weren't in their favor. That car is held together by duck tape and the power of friendship. Sainz has brought good sponsors, (fucking santander) so I hope that car will become a bit more stable then a lego car. They could improve, but if everyone does it they still be out of points.
Sauber- I ain't counting on it. The points scored this season can be counted on one hand and it is highly unlikable to turn it that much around. They made an upgrade in the last three races, maybe with the help of Audi management, they could develop the car to score some more points, but I think this season the would be the bottom of the 10 teams.
Top 10 predictions
Ferrari
Mclaren
Red bull/Mercedes
( The rookies, I don't know)
Aston Martin
Haas
Williams
Racing Bulls
Alpine
Sauber
DC
Charles leclerc ( Ferrari get your shit together, pretty please, a MV fan)
Lando Norris ( This is based on the fact that Leclerc scored 0 points in a race three times and Norris once, and there are only around 20 points between them.)
Lewis Hamilton ( I think an 8 isn't possible, f1 curse. He does need to finish above the Mercedes. Fuck shelve life.)
Max Verstappen (Please let me be wrong, but I don't trust RB)
Oscar Piastri ( I don't really know, I need car info)
George Russell
Fernando Alonso( Based on my prayers)
Liam Lawson ( His dislike of older drivers has to be studied, i think it will go against him.)
Kimi Antonelli
Esteban Ocon
Oliver Bearman ( High expectations. 7 points in three races, Two in haas. No one blames you for Brazil.)
Lance Stroll ( Mate, I don't know where to put him. Hope he has a better season.)
Pierre Gasly ( Great driver, deserve a better car.)
Carlos Sainz ( Cannot pass Gasly in Ferrari, so why in williams?)
Yuki Tsunoda ( Prayers )
Nico Hulkenberg ( I understand you want Audi, but dumb decision.)
Alex Albon ( drivers at Williams)
Isack Hadjar ( Have not seen a lot)
Gabriel Bortoleto ( Have not seen a lot. Car is shit)
Jack Doohan ( I don't think you drive every race)
Rookies
From zero to 5 rookies on the grid. Hadjar, Borteleto, Bearman, Antonelli and Doohan will all have to adapt to the thrilling life of formula 1.
We have seen a lot from Bearman against the 1/2 Free practices(Has bortoleto done one?) or One race of Doohan. Even if FIA said Bearman is not a rookie anymore, I will count him. I think he has the highest chance of performing the best among these drivers, but Antonelli is in a better car. I do think Bearman will over perform his car more and Kimi under performs the Mercedes.
The thing with Bortoleto is he will drive a tractor. F2 champion gets the worse car??? I love Isack hadjar. You can imagine how I shed a tear in Abu Dhabi when his car decided to not do what it is supposed to do. The two were very close the end of the season and both are great drivers, but their cars for coming season are not that great to show that.
Not in standings, in how much they perform!
1- Oliver Bearman
2- Kimi Antonelli
3- Gabriel Bortoleto?
4-Isack hadjar?
5- Jack Doohan

Hi i made a post on instagram about the top five games i played for the first time this year and thought id share it here! none of these are in any particular order. except the last one. my favorit....
first up is oneshot! it took me wayyyy too long to play this game. oneshot feels kinda like one of the staple rpg maker games, yet i went into it pretty much completely blind, "finished it" in one sitting, found out there was over half the game left, played the rest, and cried real hard. such a good game that breaks the fourth wall in really interesting ways. and also it has niko who doesnt love little fella niko
♡
second is halope! this is a game i had never heard of before my friend ángel (@raccoonlover333) told me to play it and i feel like i still dont really see people talk about it? it has a very unique style i think and each of the areas have their own atmosphere and feel to them (aside from the fact that all of them have distinct color palettes lol). very lovely game i enjoyed it a lot. also one of the first times i played a game with multiple endings and felt satisfied not going out of my way getting any i missed ? i enjoyed what it had to offer and didnt feel the need to pry for more (good thing)
♡
hard shift from story based rpgmaker games but next is webfishing. webfishing is good. its so good youve probably heard a lot of people say this by now but its just so fun and calming to sit around with friends and fish for hours. theres something special about the kinds of online games where theres a physical space you share with people, especially those you havent met in person. makes you feel like youre there with them. and also you can get a man i love fishing shirt whats not to love
♡
o yea baby farming sim. this game is so charming and has a lot of quality of life features that i feel are missed in other farming sims. it is still in early access so i cant be too harsh on it, but i will admit that the characters feel a bit too flat currently. a lot of nothing burger dialogue which isnt always a bad thing but when 20 characters tell you Hey this weather huh? must be good for farming! its hard to differentiate their personalities in your mind lol. im sure thatll be added to in the future though like i said its still ea and only has enough content to last you about a year in game. what it does have is very fun though and i would recommend it
♡
You knew it was coming be honest. where do i even start. technically i Did play isat for the first time last year, however, it was for like one hour and then i didnt pick it up again for half a year. so it counts to me. and also i take any excuse i can to talk about this game
in stars and time is a game that portrays characters and relationships in such a realistic light to a degree ive never seen in any other game. it makes it so easy to immediately become attached to this group of friends despite knowing them for less than ten minutes. its a very emotion heavy game. and who can forget the time loop Ohhh yes the time loop. siffrins slow decent into hopelessness and anguish after failing to escape time and time again is something rarely shown in time loop media i feel. at least to this degree. madoka magica comes pretty damn close though lol. also looping in time and zoning out through dialogue (and doing so having consequences) is such a cool game mechanic
while im talking about isat im slipping its prequel game in too, start again start again start again a prologue (or just start again). this one, though much shorter and more of a proof of concept, feels much more harrowing in the ways it pulls it off, especially without a certain characters presence. but i wont say more than that as to not spoil it teehee
this game changed my life for the better. and has been causing me psychic damage every day for 8 months. heart ♡
♡
and thats some of my favorite games i played this year! there were more but not enough for it to be 10 and 5 was a nicer number than like 7 lol. happy new year! i hope this year treats you all well and i cant wait to draw one million fanarts as i have been doing for the past 5 years. Yayyy
#oneshot game#halope#webfishing#fields of mistria#in stars and time#start again: a prologue#callie chatter#honorable mentions are hades and ultrakill

Russells memory of British GP retirement led to Canada crash recovery | 2023 Canadian Grand Prix
George Russell says he raced on despite heavy contact with a wall in Canada because he learned from his retirement at last year’s British Grand Prix. On lap 12 the Mercedes driver hit the sausage kerb at the apex of turn nine which caused the rear of his car to skid into the barrier. It damaged his rear-right tyre, but Russell returned to the pit lane for a new set. He said afterwards he remembered not to stop the car as he did after a collision on the opening lap of the British Grand Prix last year. Russell got out of his car to check on Zhou Guanyu, who skidded upside-down at high speed into the barrier, and was unable to rejoin the race after returning to his car. Russell admitted he “was quite surprised that we managed to continue” after he hit the wall. “I was very close to pulling up. Gallery: 2023 Canadian Grand Prix in pictures “I learnt from Silverstone not to just stop too early. For sure it’s a difficult pill to swallow but that’s how the sport should be, one small mistake and you should be punished for it.” “I just went a bit wide into turn eight,” Russell added. “I knew I was going to hit the kerb, but I wasn’t expecting the sausage kerb to have such a violent response and next thing I’m in the air when I landed, lost the rear and I was in the wall. “So it all happened really quite suddenly. Sorry to the team, for sure there was P3, P4 on the cards for us both.” Advert | Become a RaceFans supporter and go ad-free He fell from fourth to last after pitting for repairs. Although he was able to recover into the points places, Russell was later forced into retirement by a braking problem. He suspects he encountered more problems with brake cooling because he was running further down the order than the team expected before the race began. “We could have finished in P8 but we were in a lot of traffic,” he said. “Obviously we weren’t expecting to be in that position. I’m pretty sure it was just because I was in so much traffic we weren’t planning to be, and the brakes weren’t in the right spot for that.” Despite the incident Russell was upbeat about his car’s performance in the third race since the team brought an extensive update for it. In Bahrain Mercedes finished no higher than fifth, but a change in car design has led to podium finishes over the past two races. “I think going from Barcelona to here, two quite contrasting circuits, bodes well for the future,” said Russell. “But of course, as a team we’re looking for more than just second best. We need to close that gap to Red Bull, but definitely shows we’re on the right path.” Russell has now dropped to sixth in the drivers’ championship, two behind Hamilton, with Mercedes second in the constructors’ standings. Ironsworn Starforged - Session 0 Part 4: Starting Sector
Welcome to part four of our session zero for a new Ironsworn Starforged adventure! Last time, we did a full write-up of our character. Today, we’ll finish our session zero by randomly generating our starting sector. Step one in generating the sector will be to determine the starting region. I think that Val is going to be starting close to the heart of the Forge, in the Terminus. This means the sector will begin with four known settlements for us to generate. We’ll go through them one by one, rolling on the appropriate tables from the Oracle, and maybe coming up with a broad strokes picture of the location based on the roll.
First Settlement Lagrange (Deep Space) Population: Thousands Authority: Ineffectual Projects: Migration, Hunting
Interesting first roll! A deep space station with a population in the thousands, an ineffectual local government, and a focus on migration and hunting? Okay, I’m getting a picture of Lagrange Station being originally founded as a hunting preserve for some kind of space fauna which are harvested for food and other goods. The location was at a drift system crossroads of sorts within the sector, which slowly turned it into a trade and transportation hub, too. Today, the station has ballooned into a thriving city supporting both the travelers passing through and the space fauna hunting industry. As the station was originally a hunting and processing site - so the station administration wasn’t equipped to manage the now huge population, and so the station has become increasingly controlled by various non-governmental interests.
Second Settlement Hearth (Deep Space) Population: Hundreds Authority: None Projects: Surveillance, Energy
Hmm. I’m already off-put having rolled two deep space sites in a row, but I’ll keep it. The low population and the surveillance project intrigue me, for sure, but I’m not sure the name fits, so I’m going to make an executive decision to change it a bit.
Hearth Watch is a clan surveillance outpost near the edge of the sector - whether it's spying on a rival clan, or keeping an eye on the Sundering is TBD. The population is almost entirely clan intelligence, intelligence adjacent or support staff, and the “none” authority is more an indicator that there’s no formal government in place outside the staff and their general orders. As a secure site, Hearth Watch is also being used as a scientific research outpost working on new experimental energy systems.
Third Settlement Rhiannon (Orbital) Population: Thousands Authority: Unyielding Projects: Defense, Entertainment
I’ve already rolled two space stations, and I want to have a little more variety in the sector, so I’m interpreting this orbital settlement as actually based on the moon of another planet. Let’s find out where. Planet: Jovian World Star: Blazing Blue Star A Jovian moon! Perfect. This means we could even cheat it a bit and say the moon is, essentially, a medium-sized vital world in itself. The massive O-type star can help explain how life evolved here, in orbit around the gas giant.
Rhiannon is an established lunar colony in orbit around a massive gas giant. The colony was founded as a major tourist destination - a tropical pleasure world of leisure, primarily for clan nobility. The thriving industry on the beautiful moon caused a bit of a population boom. With clan tensions recently on the rise, Rhiannon has been militarized due to its strategic location. A larger clan military presence has been established so one of the defense fleets can operate out of the system. The local government has always run a tight ship behind the scenes to ensure the safety of the tourism industry, and the military presence has only heightened vigilance.
Fourth Settlement
Silvana (Planetside) Population: Dozens Authority: Corrupt Projects: Agriculture, Engineering
Got a planetside colony on the final roll, so that’s nice, but it’s also a tiny place. Hmm. Let’s see what the planet looks like. Planet: Ocean World Star: Burning Yellow Star
Okay, an ocean world settlement orbiting a G-type star.
Silvana is a relatively young colony in the Terminus, with under a hundred people. It’s essentially a farming village - the majority of the population works in aquaculture, generating food which is traded elsewhere in the clan. Due to the trade ships coming into the system to collect foodstuffs, a small orbital station was built to help service them and act as a shipping hub. The noble who bankrolled the station has been skimming money, which has kept the people of Silvana in relative poverty. Let’s put this all on the map, including the three known drift passages in the sector.
1) Lagrange Station 2) Hearth Watch 3) Rhiannon 4) Silvana
Now we zoom in on one settlement, which is where we’re going to begin play. Looking at the four locations we’ve made, two stand out as possible starting locations based on Val’s backstory - either Hearth Watch, or Rhiannon. Both have military presences, and Val’s story begins with him having just sworn his oath and being granted leave by his CO. I think he was commanding a patrol boat monitoring the ATHENA clan’s border with the Sundering, and while this might tie into a small outpost like Hear Watch, I think I’m going to have him at Rhiannon to start. The navy outpost there seems more like where he’d have been recalled. Rhiannon (Orbital) Population: Thousands Authority: Unyielding Projects: Defense, Entertainment Trouble: Dangerous Discovery
Planet: Pwyll (Jovian World) Atmo: Marginal Life: None Superheated Atmosphere, Severe Electrical Storms
Moon: Rhiannon (Vital World) Atmo: Ideal Diversity: Diverse (Glacial, Ocean, Islands) Life: Diverse Towering Geological Formations, Crystalline Formations
Star: Blazing Blue Star Good stuff here. Rhiannon (the largest settlement has the same name as the moon) orbits the gas giant Pwyll, which is super hot and riddled with spectacular electrical storms. The moon is smaller than Earth and is a world of island chains with no continent-sized land masses outside of massive polar ice caps in the Arctic zones. The main colony is on one of the larger tropical islands, with several outlying resorts and attractions on nearby islands. The naval base is on an island further north, with a spacedock in geosynchronous orbit for larger vessels. The planet became a tourism hotspot because of the beautiful, towering crystalline spires formed from naturally occurring forces. These spires rise from the ocean and can reach astonishing heights. Smaller deposits can be found on the islands. Life on the planet is diverse - land species are smaller and more primitive, but the oceans teem with life from minuscule to titanic, filling every niche. A recent and dangerous discovery is being hushed up by local authorities (who run a pretty tight ship, remember) and may partly explain the military presence outside of it just being a good strategic location.
Next thing we need to do is create a local connection. I think the obvious choice here is Val’s CO. Name: Commander Cassidy von Barlowe Rank: Dangerous Location: Rhiannon Role: Clan ATHENA Naval Officer Goal: Defend a Place Features: Attractive, Adorned, Poised
Commander von Barlowe is Val’s direct superior in the ATHENA clan fleet. She’s an honourable, decorated officer of noble birth who can be described as “statuesque.” Val has nothing but respect and loyalty for her; loyalty and respect which is returned. She understood the gravity of his oath and immediately granted him leave to pursue it. While associating with Val might currently be seen by many as political suicide, she’s secure in her position and trusts him implicitly. She’s a decent “friend in high places,” but associating with her could rope Val back into detached naval duty - hence her Dangerous rank. Let’s finalize the sector! Sector Name: Sundered Verge Sector Trouble: Settlements or factions are on the brink of war Two perfect rolls to end this. Sundered Verge sector is on the border of Clan ATHENA and the Sundering. Trailing to Heath Watch (west on the map above) is where the Sundering begins. The trouble is not internal but rather relates to a breakdown in relations between ATHENA and ARTEMIS. This is why the treason charge against Val’s family was so plausible and damning. Both clans are gearing up for a renewed conflict. You guys! We can begin play next time, with session 1, as Val and C3dric set out to restore the von Aetos family honour in the Sundered Verge!

Without going into the math, consider this: The only round that matters is the last one. If you tie an infinite number of times, none of them matter. The last round is the first one where you and your opponent chose something different. And if you choose one thing and your opponent chooses one of the other two options completely at random, then there's a 50% chance of winning that round.
Now if you want the math on this:
To begin, each round has 3 equally possible scenarios: You win, lose, or tie and play another round. The probability of the game advancing to n rounds is (1/3)^(n-1) since you would have had to tie the game n-1 times. However, in each round, there was still a 1/3 chance of winning.
So here's a scenario: Let's say you could play a game of rock-paper-scissors with an opponent who will always choose something different from you on the fifth round. If you were to play an infinite number of games against this opponent, 1/3 of your games would end with you winning on the first round, 1/9 end with you winning on the second round, 1/27 winning on the third, 1/81 winning on the fourth, and 1/162 on the fifth.
The reason from these numbers is because you would have to tie on any previous rounds. So winning the second round means you needed to tie on the first round (1/3 chance) and win the second round (1/3 chance). The game ends when one of you wins so we're not going to proceed past any round that isn't a tie. That very last number is from getting four ties (each 1/3 chance) and then a win (1/2 chance because the opponent will never play the same thing you did). If we add all the ways you could win, you'd get 1/2.
Now let's make this more generic. Now you can have an infinite number of draws in a single game. So we need to figure out what happens then. Did you notice how the probability of a game going to a higher number of rounds had a lower chance the more rounds there were? Generically, the probability of winning a game where you play for exactly n rounds is (1/3)^n. That's the product of getting n-1 ties followed by a single win.
Now in order to get the total probability of winning, we need to add up the probability of winning in ANY round of the game. So we need to find:
Summation from i = 1 to infinity ((1/3)^i)
To make life easier, lets call the above value S.
If we write out S in long form, it is 1/3 + (1/3)^2 + (1/3)^3 + .....
Now let's do some shenanigans. Our end goal is to reduce this to two values: the actual limit of this summation, and the infinitesimally small final term of this summation.
For the sanity's sake, let's just say S actually cut off at some arbitrarily gigantic number n rather than go on infinitely.
So S = (Summation from i = 1 to n) ((1/3)^i) = 1/3 + (1/3)^2 + (1/3)^3 + .... + (1/3)^(n-1) + (1/3)^n
Now we'll calculate 3S. If we do this, we get
3S = 1 + 1/3 +(1/3)^2 + (1/3)^3 + .... + (1/3)^(n-1)
Notice that S and 3S have every term in common except the 1 in 3S and the (1/3)^n in S. So if we calculate 3S - S, every term except those two get subtracted out.
3S - S = 2S = 1 - (1/3)^n -> S = 1/2 - ((1/3)^n)/2
Now we have to go into limits. The most basic idea about a limit is it's a way to determine if a formula approaches a certain output as a variable gets closer to a certain value. You can use limits to see if a summation converges (has an upper bound greater than the sum).
So we want to know the limit S approaches as we increase n to infinity. The "1/2" part of S never changes since n is not part of it, but the "((1/3)^n)/2" part does change. If we use a few fraction and exponent rules, we can rewrite that part as 1/(2 * 3^n).
Now one rule about fractions is that if you keep the numerator the same, but increase the denominator, the fraction becomes smaller. So if n is infinitely increasing, that means the denominator is infinitely increasing and the whole fraction is getting infinitely smaller. So at some point, 1/(2 * 3^n) might as well just be 0 since it's too small to even tell the difference.
So the limit of 1/2 - ((1/3)^n)/2 as n approaches infinity becomes 1/2 - 0 = 1/2
And if you feel a little iffy over that infinitesimally small value having an effect on the probability, that's actually the probability of finally winning your (n+1)th round after getting n ties. On the round where you and your opponent finally choose two different hands, there's a 1/2 chance of winning. There's a (1/3)^n chance of getting n ties in a row. And if we multiply that by the 1/2 chance of winning on the round where there will finally be a winner, we get *drum roll* ((1/3)^n)/2, the infinitesimally small fragment we threw out.
So there, if you play an infinite number of first-to-one rock-paper-scissors game with an opponent who always plays at random, then you will win 50% of all your games.
*Taps mic* The probability of winning a first-to-one game of rock-paper-scissors against an opponent who plays completely at random is 50%.

A Family Affair
Slasher AU CannibalFamily!EraserMicxReader
We’re going with the “strange family that lives outside of a small town” trope. After a few deliveries to the Aizawa household you get pulled in to an affair you never wanted to be a part of.
Spooky season is upon us and I’ve already begun watching too many horror movies. This fic will definitely be a two parter
Super Dark Content Warning!!! Literally do not read if you have any reservation and definitely no minors!
TW: cannibal themes, mentions of murder, mentions of corpse mutilation, kidnapping, unhealthy relationships
Part 2 is gonna include more of this and the smut
Growing up you were grateful for living in a small town. You didn't really relate to the coming-of-age stories told in the movies where the small town girl runs off to the big city for a whirlwind romance and a chance at some "big break." To you, small town life was more picturesque than any overcrowded city. You knew your neighbors, and watched a lot of their families grow and change throughout the years. A small town allows you to become a regular at several businesses, including the coffee shop and your favorite diner downtown. Going away to college was tough even though you didn't go far. The nearest city - a little over 40 miles away - had a great college with a program you were really interested in pursuing.
You went home every break and picked up delivery jobs at one of the local restaurants. It was winter break of your last year in college when you first delivered to the Aizawa residence. In all your years at the restaurant they never ordered delivery, one of the two men would always place an order for pick up. The thing about small town stereotypes is that small towns tend to self-impose said stereotypes. The Aizawa's were that family. The one that everyone whispered when they came to town and children would tell horror stories about during Halloween. They were the weird family that lived just past the outskirts of town.
You weren't entirely sure what either of the two men did. Everyone speculated that Mr. Aizawa was some sort of mountain-man-feral type and maybe did some mechanic work for the folks that tend to live in between towns. His husband, Mr. Yamada seemed like the stay at home trophy husband but you heard he did some sort of conspiracy podcast. They had children - reportedly, but no one has really met them - and other family members that live similarly further out into the middle of nowhere. The drive was absurdly long but they were loyal customers and the owners didn't want to turn their request down. Your boss handed you a chunk of bills to fill up your tank before heading out. That's no place you'd want to get stranded, he told you.
The paved road got worse the further you got from town. Forty-five minutes later you were pulling down the dirt road that led to the illuminated Aizawa home. A wall of cold air slammed in to you when you opened your car door and you grumbled about leaving your gloves at home. There was no doorbell, so knocked and did that awkward please-don't-let-me-freeze dance while you waited. Two unfamiliar faces opened the door, an apathetic looking teen and an adorable little girl. Must be their children. The older one called out for his dad before taking one of the bags you held and disappearing into the home. You looked down awkwardly and wave at the girl. She smiled shyly and reached out for the other bag.
"Are you sure?" You asked her, "It's a little heavy."
She nodded.
"Okay, but use two hands," You passed her the bag. "Oh jeez, you're strong. Don't tell your brother, but I think this is the heavier bag."
You smiled when she giggled and ran off.
Mr. Aizawa appeared in the door, "How much do we owe?"
He was just as terrifying up close and for a split second your mind went blank while your basic instincts were begging you go back to the car. He raised an eyebrow at you, looking irritated at your falter.
"Uh - forty-two."
He pulled counted out a chunk of bills and then you were off. You didn't even count the amount until you parked. Forty-two with a forty-dollar tip. They may be odd but apparently they're loaded. You didn't think much of it until the following week when you were heading back to their house with another delivery. You wished that they would order earlier but at least you could hope for another generous tip. You were taken aback when the little girl answered the door by herself, jumping up and down with excitement.
Was she old enough to answer the door by herself?
"Papa," She yelled. "The lady is here!"
She turned her attention back to you with a huge grin, "Shinsou got sore that you told me I'm the stronger one."
Before you could respond to her the other man, Mr. Yamada, bounced around the corner, "Eri, what have we told you about the door? Oh no, you must be freezing come stand inside while I go get your payment. Forty-two right?"
You wanted to protest, feeling uneasy in their entryway but the little girl tugged you by the delivery bags. So you stood there quietly while she ran back in forth so she could unload the delivery for you. Shinsou peered around the corner so you gave a small wave. Then it was just you and Eri once again. In the background you could hear Yamada asking his husband where the wallet went.
"I like your shirt," You smiled, trying to fill the silence.
"I wanted a Pegasus shirt but this was the only one my daddy could find."
"Well I think unicorns are pretty cool too."
You use to babysit for some of the families in town, no part of you could imagine doing that all the way out here.
The blonde rejoined you, giving you another lush payment. You heard the little girl whine about you leaving so quickly until her father appeased her by saying you'd be back.
Something about that rubbed you the wrong way; but you were back like clockwork the next week with their usual delivery. Once again you were brought inside while they went to get your payment. But on your fourth and what should have been your final delivery of the winter break you noticed something was off when you parked. Their truck was missing from its usual spot. Strange but they probably just moved it somewhere else on the property. You had become accustom Eri running to answer the door and telling you wait for her parents in the entrance of the house. You became suspicious after she had run back and forth to take the food to the kitchen.
"Eri, where are your parents? Or Shinsou?"
The little girl's response was nonchalant, "They had to go out, one of our cattle got out. But they gave me the money."
You stuffed the money into your jacket; payment was the issue here. In the back of your mind you though about how you never saw any cattle on your deliveries. A child her age shouldn’t be left alone.
"Oh, well, can I hang out with you while we wait for them to come back?"
The little girl lit up as she pulled you to the living room. There was a kid's movie playing on the TV and she had a coloring book out. Eri divide up her crayons and tore out a page for you to join her. You kept looking to the window, waiting for the truck to pull up.
Suddenly there was banging at the door, which elicited a cry from Eri. You reached into your pocket only finding the crumpled bills. Shit, your stomach dropped. You left your phone in your car. After all, this was just supposed to be a quick delivery. The noise stopped, only for a moment, before resuming.
"Eri, sweetie," You whispered to the stunned little girl. "Do your parents have a phone here?"
She shook her head.
A man’s voice tore through the door, "Let me in dammit, you have to let me in before they come back."
You held your finger to your lip, and Eri nodded, repeating the gesture. The living room light was on and you realized that if he came to the side of the house you'd be seen through the window, but turning out the light would draw attention. Maybe he was bluffing, maybe he didn't know if anyone was inside and turning off the light would signal your presence. You pointed to the kitchen, where the lights were off and the two of you tip toed to the safety of darkness.
"Eri, honey, can you go sit in the pantry for me and be really, really quiet? I'll be right out here and don't come out until I come to get you okay?"
She looked hesitant and tearful but you were surprised at her level of composure for a kid. Finally she complied. Once the pantry door was closed you began rummaging through the drawers, looking for something that could inflict the most damage. A meat tenderizer could work. The banging continued and you swore you hear wood beginning to splinter. Your grip tightened with every bang. Finally the door gave way and a man stumbled through the splintered wood. He stopped when he saw you holding the cleaver.
He was dirty, without shoes or a shirt and his skin was red from the cold.
You hoped your voice wouldn’t crack, "You need to leave-"
"Monsters, monsters," he blabbed. "They're gonna come back and we gotta go."
You decided to bluff, "Get out of here, I already called the cops."
"Good, good, good," He mumbled, “but we still gotta go. NOW."
There was one step forward from him, one step back from you.
"If you come near me, I'll make sure you don't get up," You warned. At the very least you had to keep him away from Eri. Even if that was all you could do.
There was a desperate look in his eyes; they darted from you to the keys hooked to your jeans, then back to the keys. Finally he smiled, "You have a car, man that's perfect. Listen I won't hurt you but we need to get in your damn car, now."
Sounds like something someone who wants to hurt me would say, you thought. Apparently you took too long to respond, the man lunged toward you and you tried to swing the meat tenderizer. The tool connected with his shoulder and he howled out in pain but still managed to wrestle you to the ground. The two of you struggled with each other and the man was yelling that you'd die if you didn't listen to him. You landed a weak hit to his jaw, splitting his lip. You even tried biting at him but he was persistent and struggling to get your keys. You were telling him he could have them that he just needed to let you go but he wasn't listening to you. Managing to grab his ear you had a flashback to the self-defense seminar you had to take in college, it should be easy to rip a human ear. So you pulled. Blood began to flow from the wound down his face and on to you. He got you off him before you got the whole ear by delivering a blow to your stomach. The air rushed from your body, is this what it means to get the wind knocked out of you?
There was a loud noise and fog lights flooded through the broken door. Then saw Shinsou and Aizawa pulling the man off you. You pushed yourself and back, clutching at your stomach. Your cheeks were wet. Were you crying or was that blood on your face? Probably both.
The trio wrangled the man outside where you heard more struggling, fighting, and groaning.
Eri. You managed your way to the kitchen but realized you were covered in blood. Not wanting to traumatize the little girl any further you spoke through the door.
"Eri, can you stay there a little bit longer?"
"Can't I come out? I heard my daddies," She cried, tugging at your heartstrings.
"Not yet, okay? They're here and everything's okay, I'm gonna have them come get you okay?"
Thankfully, the door didn't open. As you shuffled toward the front door Mr. Yamada entered, wiping specks of blood off him.
You were shocked when he pulled you into a hug, "You're okay. Sho and Shinsou got everything under control. Where is Eri?"
You told him about her hiding spot and he sighed in relief and rushed to her.
The other two returned with bloodied knuckles that made your stomach churn.
"Yamada," The mountain man called, with his eyes scanning the home.
"Don't worry, Sho, I got Eri. She's fine. Our delivery girl is okay, she's got some bumps and bruises but she made the other guy look worse."
Aizawa ushered you to the couch, expecting your legs to give out at any moment.
"We need to call the police," You finally spoke.
Aizawa assured you he did. They were 45 minutes out but they'd work on getting here faster. Yamada brewed you a cup of tea, “for while we wait.” They finally calmed Eri down and Shinsou took her upstairs to get ready for bed. It felt weird for them to return to mundane evening routines so quickly after all that chaos, but maybe you were just the odd one out. Close to an hour later you were still waiting for the police to show up. Your tea was finished long ago and your nerves had calmed. You were even having trouble keeping your eyes open.
"You think they're almost here, babe" The blonde wondered, draping a throw blanket around your shoulders. "I'm sure she wants to this day to be over with."
---
It was still dark when you woke up. The blonde was fast asleep on the recliner next to you. The police must have come by now but there was no way you slept through the visit. Anxiety from earlier made it’s way back in to your chest. The clock read 4am; had they even called the police. All of the childhood rumors you heard came flooding back and you exited the house as quietly as you could, not realizing your keys were no longer with you.
When you made it outside you noticed dried blood on the ground, trailing toward what you assumed was their barn or storage shed. You were entranced. Looking back to the house, no one was awake; there was no movement, no light, just quiet. You shouldn’t follow the bloody trail, you shouldn't go near the shed; but your body moved on it's own accord and before you realized it you were at the doors. You gave a tug, expecting it to be locked, but the door swung open and inside you noticed the lock lay on the ground.
You should have turned around, got in your car, and drove away. Instead you stepped inside and found the bloody, broken body of the man who attacked you. There was a slight sway to the corpse that was hanging from a reinforced pillar. Nearly screaming your hand shot to cover your mouth.
You should've left.
You should've left.
You should've left.
Aizawa was watching you from the kitchen, cursing Hizashi for leaving the shed unlocked. His hand hovered over the secured cabinet drawer that stored a pistol. He wouldn't shoot you only scare you a bit. But you weren't running out in a panic. He didn't even hear you scream. Interesting. He went to join you, moving like any predator concealing it presence and leaving the gun safe untouched.
You should've left.
You should've left.
You finally came to your sense and whirled around only to run into your late night admirer. A terrified squeak escaped you as you jumped further into the confined space.
"Mr Aizawa! I'm sorry, I shouldn't have - I'm sorry."
He didn't look angry, although you wished he did. It would be better than the unsettling smile on his face.
"That's alright, I was heading out here anyway," He closed the door behind him and flicked on a dim light that lit up the room with shadows. "Can't leave it hanging for too long."
Your throat tightened, he stood between you and the only exit. If he noticed your terror there was no indication that he cared. He turned his back to you momentarily, rummaging through the clutter on the workbench. Now was the best chance you may get and you made a dash for the door. It was a futile attempt and part of you knew it but your nerves were ablaze with adrenaline and you were running on instinct not reason. There was a foreign tightness around your throat that kept you fighting to inhale. Struggling to breathe you didn’t even register the sharp pinch of a needle piercing your deltoid.
Aizawa pressed his nose to your hair, "Behave. Even if you get out of here, your tire has a flat, pesky nails tend to find their way on to the roads out here. A real shame."
He dragged you over to a chair across from the lifeless body cuffing both your wrists to the armrests. Stupid, stupid, he was grabbing out cuffs and I ran straight into him, you scolded yourself. You went to open your mouth and beg to be let go, but you were silenced.
"Keep it down or I'll have to find a way to keep you quiet."
Your heart was beating so hard it hurt. Once a friend said it was possible to die by fright, if that was true you wouldn't last much longer. Now that you were safely out of the way, Aizawa could make quick work dismembering the carcass. He donned his usual rubber apron and pulled back his hair. With his experience he could finish the job in less than two hours. Now was as good a time as ever for you to learn.
With a sigh he began his explanation and craft:
"Cannibalism has been around as long as we've existed: sacrificially, ceremonially, culturally, especially during times of plague, war, and famine. You can find documented accounts from pretty much every part of the world. And there's no one reason. Our family keeps it simple. We eat meat, animals are meat, and humans are animals. In times of famine and other hardships, this was a reliable food source. Of course now, there's not much of a risk for severe famine to effect people like us but it's tradition. This is how it's been for our family for years. And not just those of us around these parts but our relatives everywhere. It's important to keep old trades alive."
He paused, now splattered with blood, to take note of your dry heaving.
"Please," You gasped. "I just want to go -"
With narrowed eyes he continued:
"It's important for you to listen to our family history. Typically we don't reap a harvest until three weeks after the winter solstice and 3 weeks before the summer solstice. Twice a year is enough to get us by. Zashi and I are impressed that you managed to wrangle him in. Poetic in a way, don’t ’cha think? Consuming the flesh of someone who tried to overpower you. First reap of the harvest. Nice that it's a family affair."
The room was spinning and you were fighting the sedative as hard as you could. There was no way any of this was real, maybe you were dreaming? Maybe you'd been knocked unconscious when that man rushed you. Or better yet, maybe you were asleep at home still. It was possible that this whole delivery fiasco was just a nightmare. Your stomach churned at the speech. There was sun peaking through the cracks in the wall by the time he finished separating the ... different sections. There was no more body, just pieces. You nodded off for a few minutes before being jolted awake by the door opening and letting in the bright morning light .
"Good morning, you two night owls," Hizashi beamed. Walking to his husband handing over a tall mug of coffee. He was completely unfazed by the scene he walked in on. In fact the only frown he made was when Aizawa said he put too much sweetener in the coffee. "Anyways, grumpy pants, I called your sister. She's on her way to pick up Eri and Shinsou for a few days. To give us some time to focus on our little muse. Speaking of, I should go get her some water. Oh, plus we need to fix our door."
---
After you refused to drink anything they tried to give you they left you alone in the shed. The handcuffs were too tight for you to slip through and in your struggle you managed to topple the chair over, hitting the floor with painful slap. It was hard to ignore the buzzing of the flies swarming the space where the body once hung. You closed your eyes, your mind wandering to your family and what they would think when they realized you were missing.
Outside you heard a car pull up and were tempted to scream for someone to help you. Maybe it was the police; maybe someone realized you didn't go home last night and found out where your last delivery was. Your captors came out to greet whoever it was and you were glad you didn't yell, they sounded friendly. They were coming toward the shed but you were too defeated to react.
"Sho," Hizashi gasped, "She fell."
The response was sharp and sarcastic, "I hadn't noticed." He yanked you up with ease and the world was no longer side ways but the jolt paired with the exhaustion and drugs left the world spinning.
The woman must've been the sister they mentioned earlier. She squealed with delight, "Oh isn't she the cutest, lemme get a good look."
She resembled neither of the men and gave off cool-soccer-mom vibes. With a gentle grip on your chin she bore into your eyes.
"Please,” You begged, “I just want go home."
The sister didn't waiver, "Don't worry sweet thing, these two are gonna take such good care of you. Just relax and let them help you."
Help? You don't need help from them. You needed to get out of this hell.
"Okay," She bounced toward the exit, "Bring out my niece and nephew, we're gonna have a fun weekend. And take care of your girl, she looks like a keeper."
Finally you screamed in frustration. Brief, loud, and full of anger but it deflated just as quickly when the two men shot you a menacing look. How could all three of them show no display of empathy? You were again convinced this was an alternate reality when both children peaked their heads in to wave goodbye before they peeled away from the home, leaving you alone with Hizashi and Aizawa.
---
There was a hatch toward the back of the room where the two disappeared until they came back with a third body. They were dragging a woman up like a ragdoll and acidic bile burned your throat. If you had to guess you would say she was late middle age. It felt like they were setting a stage, Hizashi pulled you closer to where they stood while Aizawa managed to tie the woman down to the stained table.
"Why are you doing this," you cried. But they ignored you.
"Did you know there are people who pay for certain oddities and they’re willing to spend big bucks to get what they want? We keep whatever makes sense to eat and sell the rest. Ideally nothing goes to waste.”
The next hour and forty-seven minutes were excruciating. There were several “items” – as they referred to her body parts – that they removed while she was still alive; but finally Aizawa made the perfect incision along her thigh and a pomegranate wave gushed out. There was no way she would suffer much longer with this amount of blood loss.
"Please just let her die," You begged the universe. "Please let it end."
For the first time since starting they stepped back from the body, leaving it on the table to come over to you. Aizawa knelt before you and his bloody hand brushed hair from your face; his thumb rested on your lip and you couldn't even physically respond. Hizashi was behind him, rubbing his partner's shoulders.
"You're going to kill me?”
Both men finally softened, coming down their endorphin high. There was something so satisfying about your question. Arousing, even. They made it clear that your life was up to them, which meant they had you where they needed you.
"Am I having a blonde moment? I don't recall saying we'd kill her."
Aizawa threw an incredulous look his way before addressing you, "We aren't going to kill you. We wouldn't've saved you from that terrible animal if that were the plan. We don't kill just anyone. We wanted to introduce you to our lifestyle and now’s the best chance. Eri’s wanted to keep you since day one, but if you can't behave that'll be an issue. Can you prove to us that you’re going to behave or do we have to get you down into the cellar?”
There was no other choice than to nod. Picking up a piece of the dissected woman Hizashi muttered something about starting dinner before telling his husband that you really need to get more rest. Aizawa agreed, and since it seemed like you were having trouble getting rest he decided to give you another little dose of medicine.

Odd question, but what showed Orochimaru in the FOD that Naruto was changing Sasuke? I mean, Naruto was changing him, no doubt about that, but in the FOD, the two barely interacted other than Sasuke being perceptive enough to see through the fake Naruto henges.
Now, if Sasuke was either A: motivated by Naruto’s words to fight Orochimaru, or B: his curse mark was stopped by Naruto, then it would be completely understandable Orochimaru came to that conclusion. Maybe I’ve just haven’t read the FOD in a while, but can you help me out here?
The whole sequence of events that happened right from the moment Orochimaru was spying on Sasuke to the moment he injected his Cursed Seal.... Everything showed Oro as to what kind of a person Sasuke was before and after the Arrival of Naruto in that scene.
First.... Sasuke’s Observant attitude towards Naruto
Sasuke saw through the real figure behind Naruto's Henge... By citing Familiarity as a Reason. "There's no way he could remember a song that long... So, you had to be a Fake..." Whereas Sakura couldn't able to. That just shows how Sasuke is observant towards Naruto.
Second, Sasuke was behaving just as Oro expected, AKA running away from him
When Orochimaru showed his Murder Intent... Sasuke and Sakura both got knocked down and became totally immobile. So, the best course of Action Sasuke was planning on do was to Run away/Retreat.
But he wasn't plan on Giving the Scroll though. Not. yet.
He wanted to be Alive.... but at the same time
He didn't want to give up on his Goal of obtaining the Scroll either.
That is, He want to achieve his Goal and for that Goal he was very desperate to be alive. ((Remember he said in Land of the Waves, “I promised myself not to die, not before killing my Older Brother..”???... Same logic here)
Third, Sasuke giving up on his Goal
As this Cat and Mouse game was going on between Oro and Sasuke, Naruto arrives on the scene. And as expected, Sasuke wants Naruto to run away from that place since Oro was intimidating and powerful as hell.
But Naruto isn't a person to run away.... And knowing this,
Sasuke just..... Submitted and gave up his goal..... of passing this rounds of Chunin Exams.
Last time, Naruto jumped in to save Sasuke (in Land of the Waves Arc), Naruto endangered his own life as well as Sasuke's because if Naruto puts himself in danger Sasuke’s body would move on it’s own. In order to not face with the same trouble again, Sasuke was ready to offer the Scroll... (Dropping his Goal to obtain the Scroll in order to protect Naruto).
Isn't it funny that Sasuke could've easily gave up his scroll back when he saw Sakura was trembling like a leaf in front of Orochimaru... But he chose to give up specifically after Naruto arrives in the scene.??
Don't you think Orochimaru wouldn't have noticed all of these???
Like, This kid has been running away from me ever since I came into contact with him but he never once planned on giving up his scroll, but now when this new Kid came into the scene, Sasuke was volunteering to give up the scroll. Plus, he saw through my disguise of this Kid.... What's so special about this kid, anyway????
Fourth, Sasuke becoming a Fool.
"I don't know how strong this guy is but... What guarantee is there that he'll let us go if we give him the scroll?"
It’s just like Naruto says... Didn’t Sasuke know this simple stuff about this shady moron???
"Orochimaru was the one who killed the third and tried to crush the Village of Leafs!!! You think he's just gonna give you some power for free!?"
Don't you think that both of the panels carries same context and vibes????
Basically Naruto was asking, "How could you trust Orochimaru???"
In FOD, He gave up the scroll to prevent Naruto from falling in harm's way...
In VoTE1, He went to Oro in order to not obtain power by killing Naruto...
Isn’t it too coincidental that in both of these foolish decisions, Naruto was behind that??? I know that Oro might not know about this Mangekyo thing... But he definitely knew about Forest of the Death deal where Sasuke submitted only after Naruto’s arrival.
Fifth, Sasuke exposing his weakness
Well, you may have been wondering whether Sasuke gave up his scroll to save his own Ass... Because he felt Naruto would make his situation worse.
But that's not the case though,
Here, Sasuke was urging Naruto to not fight anymore and instead he was asking him to 'Run Away'. Much to Naruto's disappointment. Naruto got extremely repulsed with the thought of Sasuke asking to run away when in fact 40 chapters earlier, it was Sasuke who taught him not to run away but instead to face it...
"There's no way such a stupid coward like you is the Sasuke I know!!"
Finally, Sasuke risking his life...
Sasuke decided to fight back. Moments before, Sasuke was running away from Oro because he didn’t want to die but now after Naruto’s insistence and Sakura’s push... He is risking his life for the first time.
(Mind you, Sakura was only the Last straw.... It's not that Sasuke decided to fight only because of her words...)
Now, Sasuke was putting his life on line to fight against the Enemy which he knew very well that he couldn't defeat instead of running away as he did earlier....
So, What showed Orochimaru in the FOD that Naruto was changing Sasuke?
That Sasuke would give up his Goal for Naruto.
That Sasuke would listen to Naruto's words, risk his life even if it means his eventual death.
Both of these points goes against the goal that Sasuke wanted to achieve.... Which in turn puts Oro at his disadvantage because he always wanted to tempt Sasuke using his desire for Power to achieve his goal of obtaining Sasuke’s body.
“Since Naruto possesses so much influence over Sasuke... I must separate them immediately”
Well, What did Kabuto’s data says about Sasuke anyway???
That.. If Naruto puts his life in Danger....
“Using Sharingan makes the mark on my neck hurt”
Sasuke would over exert his body....
“This is my last chakra”
To the point of using his last bit of Chakra....
Even if it means experiencing immense pain.....
Because Sasuke’s body move on it’s own. This is what Kabuto noticed from that battle.

Now, that the fever and sugar attack I had after watching episode 12 of Spy x family step I can give a brief opinion.
Love the chapter, in every way. The way they so faithfully adapted the extra episode of the manga is splendid. Giving away beautiful moments in the family, and showing how much love has grown in the Forger family. Gradually, the change within Twilight is taking place. Life as a spy becomes more and more overwhelming, but being with his family makes him regain strength. Hilarious moments from start to finish.
The introduction of the characters was done to me. Too bad they didn't add scenes like in previous chapters that made the experience more fun, instead of repeating what we already know. But when it comes to adapting an extra chapter I can forgive and ignore.
All I can say about it is that I personally would have preferred that episodes 11 and 12 were exchanged, in order.
Episode 11 is much calmer compared to others. But it is the episode with the most development regarding the plot. Being brief, one of the conflicts presented at the beginning of Operation Strix, is that Anya is an imperial scholar by means of outstanding notes. But seeing that our little girl is not so good at it, which is to make friendship with Damiand
We know that both plans seem to be headed for failure. In the end the episode surprises us, Anya gets a Stela on her own merit. In an unexpected situation. Likewise, Anya seeks a new strategy to approach the son of the wicked, Sy-on boy. Getting a dog as a prize. In the end, we get a view of Bond. The future member of the Forger family. I think this episode better concludes the conflict of the season, and it would have been better to leave it by the end of this season. Leaving the viewer with the mystery of Who is that dog? And why does he have a vision of the family?
Which would make more sense, having to watch the second part of the season.
Chapter 12, it's beautiful. But being the adaptation of an extra chapter of the manga. I feel like you can place it anywhere and the result is the same. "An exit from the fake family to keep appearances". This makes the conclusion feel a little, anticlimactic. I don't really feel that anything ended and nothing was opened, and there's no connection to any chapter.
Except for the small detail, Twilight remembers that his goal is to "create a world where children don't cry," while seeing his beloved family. Which, he alludes to, chapter 1. Although, I repeat, this could be located anywhere and not affect the plot at all.
The order of the episodes makes Bond's appearance in the last chapter somewhat obscure. And not as something you should be excited to expect. And the fourth member of the Forger family will be instrumental in the next arc and others
I'm glad they adapt the extra missions (I'm waiting for Yor and Loid's date for next part of the season) Before, I'd swear that episode 12 would end up being an OVA. But it wasn't the case. They gave it to us as an official chapter of the season and I appreciate it
I understand that when a season concludes, an exciting closure is sought. But I think Chapter 11, more meets the requirements of a season shutdown
Conclusion: I love this series, from start to finish. And I am entirely grateful for this adaptation. Spy x family is a series that gives us beautiful and fun moments, reminding us how wonderful it can be to have a family and that no matter what suffering you have been through. When you love the right people you can be yourself, and aspire to be much better.
The anime adaptation is wonderful. So I hope this isn't heard as a complaint from me. It's more of a suggestion. But nothing to ruin how great it has been to watch this series.

How to write essays fast
I've been writing a lot of papers, so that's what's on my mind.
So this mostly applies to your standard 5-paragraph paper, though it's fairly straightforward to adapt it to longer (or sometimes shorter) assignments.
One of the main things to note is that essays are VERY formulaic, so knowing the formula and being able to write down your ideas in a way that fit into the formula is probably the number one way to get stuff done fast. Because of that, most of what I’m covering is breaking down the formulas so they’re more accessable.
Also this got very long. If there’s anything you want me to expand on just let me know in the comments or send me an ask/DM and I’ll make another post that goes more in-depth about it.
Structure (I hate this step, so I’ve figured out how to do it very fast becuase it’s still important)
The first thing to consider is prewriting and structure. To start, there are two major paper structures I usually consider. The first goes
Introduction
Main point #1
Main point #2
Main point #3
Conclusion
This is good if you have a lot to say on the topic, or if it's something closer to a summary essay where there's not really an opposing side. In something where there are distinct sides, (or if you have less to say to support your own side), you may want something that looks like
Introduction
Main point #1
Main point #2
Why the other side is wrong
Conclusion
The "why the other side is wrong" side is involves thinking through the MOST credible arguments the other side might make, and methodically breaking them down to show how they don't work. The stronger the argument you choose, the more effective this is.
Since I personally hate prewriting with a passion, I usually do this step very fast and end up with an outline that looks like
Intro [insert thesis statement]
P1: [three word summary]
P2: [three word summary]
P3: [three word summary]
Conclusion
(thesis statement, introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion tips are all below the cut)
Usually, this is enough so when I look at my outline, I can see what I'm trying to focus on for each paragraph - and do so without straying from my main point.
For the prewriting, the main things to do are identify with basic structure of the two will serve your purposes better, and write a thesis statement that solidly supports your argument.
Thesis Statement
There are so many guides about creating thesis statements that are powerful, but I'm just going to quickly go over how to be fast about it.
The first thing to know is that a thesis statement is usually a complex sentence: it's your entire essay distilled down to a single line. The general formula I follow goes something like this:
"In their [media type] [name of specific piece], [creator's full name] explored/demonstrated/other verb [theme you're going to be arguing about] demonstrated/using/as evidenced/as shown by [example 1], [example 2], and [optional example 3]."
For example, a thesis statement that follows this format might go
“In his short film Job at Place, David Davidson explored the manifestations of human stupidity through the absurdity of the main character’s home, school, and office.”
Or, if you're writing a historical piece, it might look something like this:
"In [place/time period], [thing you're arguing was happening]: they had to/the conditions were such that/other thing to set up a list [example 1], [example 2], and [example 3]."
For example, a thesis statement that follows this format might go
“During the Tusken Invasion of 32nd century Tatooine, it was the lives of the children that were most affected, from their social development and connections with others to more personal struggles they didn’t yet have the tools to overcome.”
The examples you give are going to correlate to your paragraphs - example 1 is for body paragraph 1, and so on.
Introduction
I like to think of the introduction as a funnel that gets more and more specific.
First, write a broad statement that touches on whatever theme you’re referencing.
Job at Place is about human stupidity, so something like “while great minds have flourished throughout the ages, so have the not-so-great.”
Tatooine is about war, and about child development, so something like “children’s development has always been impacted by the state of the world around them.” or “war has many effects, many of which impact those not directly involved with the conflict.”
The idea is that it’s a broad statement that can almost be looked at like a universal truth.
Next, you’re going to go deeper - two sentences that narrow down the time and place you’re talking about specifically, and how that time and place fit into your universal statement.
The fourth sentence gets even more specific - introducing how the thesis sentence fits into your first three sentences.
Then the last line is your thesis statements.
Body Paragraphs
Your three main body paragraphs all follow the same formula. (I’ll get to the “why the other side is wrong” paragraph in a minute)
The first sentence you’re going to want is a topic sentence. For this, you’re going to want to look at the example you gave in your thesis statement that corresponds to this paragraph, and see how it relates to your central claim.
If we’re going with the Job at Place example from above, for the second paragraph, you might open with a line like:
“A striking characteristic of Davidson’s short film was the abnormality of the main character’s school, used to showcase exactly what happens when poor decisions get taken too far.”
Everything within the paragraph will then back up the claim you’re making in the topic sentence (which in turn is backing up your thesis).
For each paragraph, you’re probably going to want about three pieces of evidence, either in the form of direct quotes (plucking words directly from the source) or paraphrased quotes (summarizing what happened in your own words). The quote should be used to directly support your argument.
After each piece of evidence, you’re going to want about... twoish lines of analysis (this number can change as you need it to, but two lines is something solid to fall back to).
While analysis can take all kinds of forms, one pattern you can use if you’re stuck is
evidence sentence
what it means
how that meaning ties back into your main point
Following this pattern, a piece of analysis of Job at Place might look like:
“One of the first images of the private school is that it’s a tall spire with creaking stairs and loose floorboards. Despite this, the principal has eight personal cars parked outside on full display. While the first glimpse of the school might indicate that there is little money to care for the structural integrity, the notion is directly negated by the principal’s actions. By using these two images, Davidson demonstrates what can happen to the youth when those in power let greed carry them away.”
After you write your analysis, include some kind of transition phrase, and go onto the next piece of evidence.
The last line of your paragraph is going to transition into the next paragraph while also summing up the main point of what you talked about in the current one. (This line can also get moved down and tacked onto the beginning of the next paragraph, before the topic sentence, but I have found it tends to look less cohesive that way).
You might choose something like:
“While the school was a disaster in its own right, it wasn’t the only example of human folly.”
If you’re writing a “this is why the other side is wrong” you’re going to want to think about the MOST compelling arguments the other side could make. Take the top one (or two), and figure out ways to crack them apart using evidence from your source material.
In this case, your topic sentence might start off with something like
“While opponents might say [insert compelling counterargument], their reasoning breaks down when one takes into account the evidence.”
At this point, you’re going to follow the same formula as above. The main thing to keep in mind is that for the duration of this paragraph, your point is that the other side’s claim of X is wrong.
Conclusion!
If you know what you’re doing, this is actually the easiest part.
(wait, what??????)
The thing is, you NEVER want to introduce new ideas into your conclusion. Instead, you’re summarizing your main points.
The formula I follow per sentence is:
Thesis statement but reworded (you can change the sentence structure too)
Topic sentence for paragraph 2 or 3, but reworded (I’ll explain why you shouldn’t do the sentence for P1 in just a sec)
Topic sentence for paragraph 1 or 3 but reworded
Topic sentence for paragraph 1 or 2 but reworded
Wow sentence or question (i’ll get to this too)
The idea for the middle three sentences is you don’t want them to read as repetitive, so you’re going to mix up the order so it doesn’t match the order of the rest of the essay. This will help to keep it fresh.
The wow sentence is basically the last impression you get to make. I find it’s usually a good idea to go just a tad dramatic (it sounds dumb, but it has never failed me). If I can’t think of anything, a declarative statement on whatever major theme was being discussed throughout the essay usually does the trick.
Examples:
All of this shows that in the absence of friendships and platonic love, humanity will falter.
Fiction may seem far fetched now, but if the world falls into those same mistakes, it’s only a matter of time until it becomes a reality.
Art has existed for as long as humans have populated the earth; it’s not going away any time soon.
A lesson everyone must understand is the most powerful weapon isn’t anything physical or tangeable: it’s the ideas that exist in the minds of those who care.
(I told you they were going to be dramatic) A way I look at it is if you can’t imagine dropping the mic on the last line, it needs to be stronger (yes I found that plagiarized with not even a whisper of credit on Pinterest, but it works).
If you wrote a SOLID essay, consider ending with a question aimed at the reader (this will push your essay in the direction of either the positive or negative extreme: a strong essay will become stronger, a weak essay will become weaker). Questions can be a call to action or rhetorical as a means to drive home your final point. Becuase they’re more nuanced to the content of the essay, I don’t really have great examples to give you though (sorry).
Hopefully this is useful to at least some of you - good luck!
++++

It was nearly 2am and you were finally finishing an essay for a Japanese literature class you were taking. With tired eyes, you shut your laptop and sleepily made your way to the bed in your small, shared apartment. The unit was silent since your roommate was already asleep but your phone's notification sound broke the quiet. You took a moment to look at the screen and saw Yuta had texted you.
You had met him a year ago while you were both undergraduate students and he was a TA for an East Asian literature course you were taking at the time as a second-year student. He was in his fourth and final year, majoring in Asian studies which only made sense once you were able to see how genuine he was with his own work and studies as TA. He really could have been the professor of the class from how much he helped the students.
Opening the notification from Yuta, you squinted into the nearly blinding light of your phone. It wasn’t a message, it was just a picture of him holding a Starbucks cup and a hairband in while looking menacingly into the camera. Nonetheless, his message to stay hydrated was received.
Yuta responded almost immediately. 'You told me that you had to finish your essay’
You rolled around in bed while sending a text back. 'I could have finished it hours ago'
He reacted with a thumbs down to your message. 'That would be so unlike you. You literally always procrastinate'
You hated that he wasn’t wrong. 'And what are you doing awake right now? Shouldn’t you be prepping for some lesson?' As a graduate student pursuing his master’s degree, he was required to teach for at least two semesters and he often complained about how tedious it was to come up with lesson plans.
'I already finished it.’ No way. He had to be lying.
You called him out on his bluff. 'I don’t believe you.’
'As you should’ He confirmed.
'Yuta what-’
'I’ll finish it in the morning relax my class isn’t until 10’ He was trying to ease your worries but it wasn’t working.
There was an obvious flaw to his plan. 'And you normally wake up at 9:45’
'Shhhhhhh I just wanted to check on you but why did this turn into me getting in trouble’
'I just want to make sure that you’re keeping up with your assignments you know’ You let out a yawn, reminding you of the time. 'I’m tired so goodnight Yuta I’ll see you tomorrow’
'Goodnight see you at lunch cutie’ That was a new one. You were used to Yuta using nicknames for you but recently they had become more affectionate though you didn’t mind the change. Perhaps he was growing softer as he aged.
Your stomach was growling by the time your introductory biology class ended at noon. Yuta was already waiting for you outside of the lecture hall and kindly held your bag while you shoved in the results of your last exam. “How did you do?” Yuta asked.
“Not bad but not great either” you shared while taking your bag back, not so enthusiastic about your 81 out of 100 when this was supposedly an easy class.
“It’s okay, I was bad at science too but all in the name of becoming well-rounded, right?” His long, dark hair blew in the weak wind, showing off his handsome features. “Where do you want to go for lunch? I’ll drive.”
“Surprise me.”
Yuta had chosen to take you to your favorite coffee shop and even ordered for you. You were a little wary about him getting the order correct but when he placed the warm cup on the table, you knew it was the right one. “Thank you” you told him after taking a sip, the warm liquid helping to calm your nerves from thinking about the potential drop in your grade. “How much do I owe you?”
“It’s on me. I figured I should treat you since you’ve been working so hard.” Interesting. He never usually paid for you unless you forgot your wallet or something like that though he expected you to pay him back in those cases.
When you had gotten back to your apartment, your roommate was milling about, preparing their mid-afternoon snack while finding something to watch on TV. “Did Yuta take you to lunch again?” They asked as you were taking your shoes off in the doorway.
“Yeah, how did you know?” You don’t think you had told them, especially since Yuta spontaneously offered.
“I saw his car,” they informed you, “and he also told me.”
“Told you what?” They gave you a certain look, clearly having knowledge of something you didn’t.
“He told me he wanted to take you out for lunch and asked where he should go so I recommended that one shop you always go to and luckily I remembered your order too.” You were still confused about what was going on but continued your routine of cleaning up some of the dishes and looking for your own snack. “Your silly self told him ‘surprise me’ so what was the man supposed to do?” Ah, that made more sense. “He has a crush on you anyway so of course, he doesn’t want to take you somewhere that you don’t like.”
You froze in your tracks, barely remembering to close the door of the refrigerator. “He what?!”
“Don’t tell me you didn’t know he has a crush on you. It’s so obvious when the laid back loser finally starts caring about his appearance and taking you out on dates-”
“Hey, don’t call him a loser” you defended, though that didn’t help your case.
Your roommate hummed as they caught your small show of affection for him. “So I see the feeling is mutual.”
“Maybe…but don’t tell him I said that.”

“What happened to that girl you took home the other night from The Lace Rabbit?” Harrison asked as he ordered his lunch before he took a seat at the table with Tom. It was typical for them to meet up during the week on their lunch breaks and catch up when they were not busy being wingmen for the other while bar hopping on the weekends.
Tom shrugged off Harrison’s question as he took a bite of his sandwich, “She got a little clingy so I had Y/N help me get rid of her,” he smiled as he said your name out loud. His friends knew of you as the hot girl who lived next door who bailed him out of sticky situations. Always teasing Tom how he could never actually get you. The irony made it all too funny for him, “How’d it go with that blonde girl?” he asked to change the subject off of him.
He didn’t know if he should bring up the two of you sleeping together with Harrison. Harrison was his best friend and wouldn’t judge but he knew he’d give Tom shit for it. He’d want to know details of your arrangement or how it came about, if you were really that good and Tom didn’t feel comfortable answering that. Not if it was about you. He didn’t want his other friends knowing about you in the way he did. That was personal between you both and he wanted to show you he respected you.
“It didn’t,” Harrison admitted while taking a sip of his water. He let out a chuckle as he felt himself blushing, “Forgot her name and she spilt her drink on me. Can’t say I didn’t deserve that one,” he at least knew when he was in the wrong.
Tom cringed into his sandwich as he let out a cackle, “You definitely deserved it, mate,” he laughed with another bite. His phone vibrated in his pocket but he chose to ignore it, knowing like clock work what it probably was. It was going to ruin the rest of his day and he at least wanted to enjoy lunch with his friend before getting pissed off for the day.
“She’d probably love you,” Harrison teased.
“Fuck off,” Tom rolled his eyes with a laugh. “I’m not taking your angry seconds.”
“Don’t knock angry sex til you try it,” Harrison smirked knowingly.
Tom shook his head as he once again ignored the phone ringing, “I think I’m good, thanks,” he brushed it off with another eyeroll.
He didn’t know why he suddenly felt weird talking about their last venture out at the club. Maybe it was because Tom knew where he ended up after that girl had left and he knew what that meant for the both of you. But Tom wasn’t done with his bachelor days, and even you knew that. Hell, you practically insisted since this was a no strings attached deal.
It just felt strange not telling Harrison about you. Like it was a weird secret. But at the same time, he felt oddly protective of you. Not wanting his friends to see you as some girl he was getting laid with. Or worse, a potential love interest. He knew it wasn’t going to happen. Hell would be freezing over before Tom decided on any sort of long term obligation. But he knew his friends and he knew they wouldn’t see this is a simple agreement between two friends. And he didn’t want to deal with that conversation.
Staying quiet was the better option. For his own sanity. And...well, would you care if he told anyone about this? Tom figured that was another rule he’d have to ask about. He didn’t want to overstep any boundaries and he knew you had a list of rules as well that he was happy to follow. As long as that meant one thing and one thing only: non-exclusive.
Harrison noticed Tom’s phone buzzing for the third time. And Tom ignored it for the third time. He checked the message with a huff of his breath before turning the screen face down on the table, going back to his lunch before he had to get back to work.
“Clingy girl?” Harrison nodded towards Tom’s phone.
Tom shook his head, “My mother was supposed to visit this weekend but you know the routine,” he mumbled into his food, not even wanting to respond to her.
“Let me guess,” Harrison began, knowing exactly where this was going since he knew Tom’s whole story inside and out. Including the bits he hated to discuss which was mainly his family, “Going skiing with Clint in Veil instead?” he questioned knowingly.
Tom scoffed out a laugh at his guess, “Surfing with Clint in Malibu but same shit,” he corrected as he tried not to let it get to him. But even Harrison could tell he was getting bothered by it once again and who could honestly blame him.
Always the same story every time no matter what and Tom grew tired of her antics. He couldn’t even blame Clint for it anymore considering she’d been this way since he was a kid before he was even in the picture. Only now she would just use him as the perfect excuse to get out of coming to visit.
He knew he shouldn’t care anymore but he couldn’t help it. It wasn’t something easy for him to simply let go of. It was his mother. And no matter how many times he’d try she would always give him back the bare minimum and it always made him upset. She was his one final connection to him and she could care less about any of it, so why did Tom? It always got under his skin and he loathed that it did.
But he would still invite her. No matter how miserable it made him.
“Well at least now you’re free this weekend,” Harrison broke his thought while he gathered their garbage before they headed back to work, “The usual at The Lace Rabbit this Saturday then?” he suggested with a knowing smile to try and get Tom out of his mood.
Grabbing his phone, Tom clutched it tightly as he inhaled sharply. Knowing his change of plans meant doing his normal routine even though he was looking forward to the slight change this weekend, which now just seemed bleak to him
.
“Yeah,” Tom agreed as he tapped your name on his phone but hesitated when he saw his mother trying to call for a fourth time, “The usual this weekend.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your chest tensed as you got into your car after your extremely long day in the office. Everything around you felt heavy and you couldn’t wait to get home as soon as you could but you found yourself still frozen in your car. Unable to move as the moments from earlier this afternoon invaded your thoughts once again while you tried your best to move in. Even though you knew you were completely grief stricken and didn’t know what the hell to do.
The promotion was yours, at least you had thought it was by the way your boss would constantly hint at it. You knew it was never a definite thing, but you were confident in the hard work you had put into your job and knew you were a top contender for the spot. You worked longer hours, took on extra tasks, you even worked on the occasional weekend to get your work done. Taking every precaution necessary to prove that you were the best fit for the role.
Everything felt like it was lining up for you. Co-workers were giving you a pat on the back for your work accomplishments, your boss was taking note of everything you were doing, and you overall felt really good about where you stood for the potential position. So imagine your surprise when you attended the big luncheon and your boss announced his undeserving son was getting the spot instead of you.
It was both nepotism and misogyny rolled into one and it made your stomach turn the longer you had thought about it. None of it made any sense and it was far from fair. You knew you were the one more deserving of the position, the whole office knew it. Even your damn boss knew but he chose his damn son over you and it felt like a stab right to your gut.
You felt so betrayed and beside yourself as you finally decided to head home. Tears streamed down your cheeks while you tried to focus on the road but you just couldn’t ignore the facts. How were you going to be able to show up and take orders now from your boss’ son? You knew the job more than he did and it felt like a huge screw you.
On your drive home, you tried to make yourself feel better by putting on some music to distract yourself but nothing helped. You felt beyond defeated and frustrated right now you didn’t know what was going to make you feel better at the moment. It felt like the world was against you. Between finding Justin with another woman and your job, you were really batting one thousand lately and you weren’t sure when you would catch a break.
Things were not going how you planned at all. The thought of just quitting your job and starting all over again crossed your mind but the fear of the unknown kept haunting you. You didn’t know which direction to go in or who to turn to for advice anymore. You were slowly drowning and you needed someone to throw you a goddamn life jacket already.
You were relieved to finally be home. Maybe some peace and quiet would make you feel a little better, you thought to yourself while you kicked your shoes off and turned some music on for yourself. Trying to put the day behind you and focus on the present moment while you got changed into more comfortable clothes to unwind.
You jumped out of your skin when you heard a knock at your door, not expecting anybody to come by right now. Pulling your hair up into a bun, you headed back towards the door and looked through the peephole. To your surprise, you weren’t really surprised at all. You were actually sort of relieved when you opened the door and saw Tom standing there holding a pizza box.
“That better have extra cheese,” you asked with a narrowed expression while you invited him inside with the pizza that he would always bring you even in normal times.
Placing the box on the kitchen table, Tom opened it with a grin as he showed you the pizza pie with cheese practically oozing from the crusts, “Figured it was an extra toppings sort of day,” he admitted, knowing he really needed the escape from reality. Even if it was just a pizza.
“Tell me about it,” you sighed as you grabbed a piece closest to you as Tom handed you a paper plate. You headed over towards your refrigerator to grab you both a few beers while Tom leaned up against your kitchen counter as he devoured his slice, “I’m guessing you had a bad day judging by your pizza presentation?” knowing there wasn’t really any particular reason he’d be coming over with it today. Unless if he wanted something?
You slowed your pace back from the fridge wondering if he was going to pick up on how you were feeling. You weren’t entirely sure if you wanted him to notice. Whenever you and Tom had a pizza night it was merely to gossip about your lunatic neighbors or watch a game together. You talked about casual things but never really gone into depth or prying into each other’s lives. Why did it feel like suddenly you wanted something different? Would sex change that much in your friendship?
“We can just ignore that...we don’t have to talk about unimportant stuff,” you waved it off. Tom didn’t need to hear about your miserable day. And you didn’t want to pry into his.
He swallowed the last bite of his slice, “If something makes you upset, it’s not unimportant,” he noted. But when he noticed you just looking at him, he raised his hands in surrender. “Ignore my philosophical ass. But I’d like to hear about your day, you know,” he laughed it off.
What the hell was he doing? He thought to himself. Don’t let personal shit ruin this. Enjoy her company. That’s it.
“I didn’t get the promotion,” you told him. You had mentioned to Tom a while ago that your boss was hinting at it but you never went into detail with him about it. You weren’t used to Tom actually wanting to be open or the other way around. And you’d be lying if you said you weren’t slightly surprised Tom even gave a crap about stuff like this.
Tom frowned at your answer and he felt his heart sink a bit when you told him the truth about your bad day. He didn’t know much about your job but he was sure you were a hard worker. He saw how much you loved your job and how passionate you were about it when it would come up. You would share upcoming projects with him from time to time and he would see the look on your face whenever you explained them to him. So hearing that you were passed by for a promotion was upsetting to him.
“I...shit, Y/N,” he put his pizza down as he walked over towards to give you a hug. Sliding his hands around your waist he pulled you into him as he felt you relax against his chest, “You didn’t deserve that,” he added softly.
You allowed Tom to embrace you, his warmness comforting you a bit before you pulled away and started crying when telling him about your boss’ son getting the job instead of you. Making you laugh by calling him every name in the book, you and Tom finally found a common ground as you kept venting to him.
Tom pulled away slowly, his hand resting at your chin while he licked his lips, “You’re boss sounds like a fucking prick, I hope you know that,” he told you reassuringly. The small smile you formed when he spoke made him want to keep making you feel better, “I’m glad you’re smiling,” he blushed at his confession.
Stretching your mouth wider, you flashed Tom a playful yet overly wide grin to deflect the attention he gave to you. The two of you laughed as Tom pulled away with a loud chuckle, shaking his head at your sudden silliness, “That has to be the most hideous smile. But we’ll work on it,” he told you through his laughter.
You rolled your eyes before going back to your pizza, giving Tom a look as you nudged him, “Not gonna tell me about what happened to you?” you finally asked.
Tom tensed as he tried to brush it off with a simple shrug into his pizza. The thought of his mother’s texts and ridiculous apologies and excuses continued to drive him crazy as he mumbled into his bite, “It’s stupid shit,” he told you as he swallowed the crust he was chewing, “Mom stuff, not important,” he added bluntly.
You could see the look on his face and could tell it was important to him but you didn’t want to force him to talk about it. Tom was never one to bring up his family ever to you and that was the first time you had ever heard him even mention his mother. He never spoke of his father, at least to you, so you just assumed both were out of his life for whatever reason and it was none of your business to ask.
And Tom refused to admit it but he wanted you to ask about him. Spending hours upon hours at bars, turning his focus always onto the girl; because he knew no girl would ever want to go home with a self righteous, egotistical guy. It was never something Tom minded to do, especially with complete strangers who he would never open up to in a million years. It might have been the recent development he had with you but there was something refreshing he felt around you and as much as it freaked him out, he didn’t seem to mind.
But diving into his mommy issues with you now seemed too much to deal with right now. You were dealing with more than enough problems with your job and your miserable ex-boyfriend, he figured you didn’t need to hear his bitching right now anyway. He came here to get away from those shitty thoughts, not open those wounds further.
Tom came here for a distraction.
Licking his lips, Tom perked up as he looked at you fervidly, “Wanna have sex?” he asked matter of factly. He figured he didn’t need to beat around the bush since you had your arrangement but maybe he was a bit too direct with his request. Tom cleared his throat as he tried to save the night, “I-I mean, I just figured since we both had shitty days that maybe we could uhm-”
“Thought you’d never ask,” you cut him off with a smirk and you perked up as well, nodding as you smoothed out your hair. Standing back up as you turned your back towards him, removing your shirt in the process, “Let’s go,” you called over your shoulder as you headed towards your room.
“Oh, we’re jumping right in,” Tom mumbled to himself as he practically fell off his chair to follow you into your room, tossing his shirt beside yours as he practically froze already seeing you completely undressed, “Christ…” he breathed out while taking you in.
You rolled your eyes as you walked over to him, bringing your lips to his now bare shoulder, “You’re really acting like you haven’t seen me like this the other day?” You laughed against his skin while you began to suck a bruise against him, hearing him let out a gasp while your hand snaked into his pants sneakily, “Beginning to really like this whole friends with benefits thing we have,” you laughed as you found Tom’s lips.
Practically growling into your kiss, Tom lifted you up and lowered you onto your back on your bed. His lips traveled from yours, to your stomach, dipping his tongue into your belly button as you moaned quietly before he brought himself down between your thighs. His lips peppering your inner thigh before he got straight to the point because this whole arrangement meant no foreplay. Another plus for Tom.
“Darling, I think you may be the best friend I’ve ever had,” Tom breathed out a laugh as he pressed his tongue flatly against your clit. Sliding two of his fingers into your core while he slowly pumped in and out of you, “This is what got me through my day today,” he told you before he brought his mouth back to your core.
You arched your back while your fingers went towards Tom’s curls. His name began to fall from your lips while he lapped his tongue carefully, letting it slip inside of you as he continued to tease you with his mouth. His fingers sliding into you again, adding a third as he moaned against your center; allowing the vibrations to roll throughout your entire body.
“Mmm, oh, fuck...!” you cried out, yanking gently against Tom’s hair as you felt the coil beginning to burn from inside of you. Biting your lip to stifle another moan, “Fuck...yo-you’re really good at that,” you breathed out with a small laugh which turned into a whimper.
With his head peering up at you, Tom flashed you a cocky smile with a playful wink as he licked your folds teasingly, “Did you seriously doubt my abilities to make you cum with my mouth, Y/N?” he raised his eyebrow while pumping his fingers now tantalizingly slow, “You’re gonna pay for that comment,” he said to you.
“Just...shut up and make me cum, Tom,” you told him through another gasp as you felt his teeth drag teasingly against your already throbbing bud. His lips wrapped around it as he sucked more harshly, doing exactly as you had asked him to do, “Ungh...oh god, okay. Yeah, keep doing that,” you instructed as you began to grind your hips against his mouth.
Tom took it as a challenge and picked up his pace, beginning to flick your clit faster while he continuously sucked on it. His three fingers now entirely coated in your warmth as he felt you clenching around them. His pants feeling tighter from his hard on while he knelt at the end of your bed trying to bring you to where he wanted.
His free hand splayed against your stomach, holding you in place while he felt you trying to squirm around from the way he was making you feel. Rubbing your clit in between his breaths, Tom looked up at you as he licked a solid stripe down your center, “Let out how you’re feeling from today and cum for me, Y/N,” Tom commanded.
Your eyes shut as you did exactly what Tom had suggested. Completely coming undone from beneath him while you released as much of the tension from earlier as you possibly could but in the most amazing way. Your eyes rolled back into your head while your back arched as Tom’s tongue continued to work you up while you were at your highest point.
Letting out a breathy laugh as you started to come down from it, feeling Tom begin to kiss his way back up your stomach with a smug look, “Don’t give me that look,” you rolled your eyes at his cockiness as his tongue traced along your neck, “I could do what you just did to myself, you know,” you tried to knock him off his high horse a bit while he pretended to be wounded from your words.
“Ah, but you didn’t. Did you?” Tom reminded you as his lips found yours. His hands still in between your thighs as he brought them between you both, showing you his coated fingers while he tasted you off of them, “Tastes like I made you cum because you wanted me to,” his smugness only elevated as he pushed himself off of you as he laid on his back on your bed.
“Need I remind you that you came to my place like a porno with a pizza looking to get laid,” you retaliated as you shifted so you were now hovering over him. Your hands guiding towards his belt buckle to get him out of his restraintive pants. The pleading look on his face made you just as smug, “Sounds like you want me to do just about the same thing, am I right or am I right?” you sang in his ear.
Tom helped you get the rest of his pants and boxers off, feeling himself spring out as he stared back at you with uncertainty, “Did you...just call me a porn star?” he questioned as the two of you let out a laugh.
“You wish, Tommy,” you teased as you ran your tongue down his abs, placing small and open kisses against his stomach as you made your way down to his legs while your hand carefully gripped his hardened length, your thumb running the pre-cum around his tip while you already heard him gasping for you.
Gripping your bedsheets with one hand, Tom reached around to create a makeshift ponytail to hold your hair. Cussing under his breath as he watched your mouth wrap around his tip, swirling your tongue around it while your eyes searched for his. He was really trying to hold it together but you were already driving him crazy.
“Let’s see what you got, Y/N,” Tom challenged you with a heavy breath as he tightened his grip around your hair, “Sometimes, girls think they know exactly what to do but-OH FUCK!”
His words were lost as soon as your mouth went straight down to his base. Suctioning as hard as you could before coming back up his cock painfully slow. Moaning your name as his chest began to heave, Tom felt his thighs start to quiver from under you. Even just watching the way you were working on him was enough to make him whimper right now.
“Fuck...okay, yeah I take that back,” Tom gasped as his nose crinkled up while his other hand white knuckled the sheets, “God, your mouth is fucking perfect. Why haven’t we done any of this shit before?” he was in such a fucked out haze, he wasn’t even sure if anything he was saying made any sense at all. But he felt his stress from earlier going away finally. Even if this was just a short state of bliss, he was grateful for it anyway.
“You really want me to answer that or would you just prefer me to keep sucking your dick?” you sassed while you kitten licked his tip. You watched from the end of the bed as Tom bucked his hips into your mouth to try and get more contact from your lips but you pulled away from him and just kept licking his tip.
God, you were good, Tom thought to himself.
‘K-keep going,” Tom finally breathed out, flinging his head against the pillow to brace for the impact.
Hollowing your cheeks, you pushed yourself all the way down his cock. Your tongue flicking the base in between as you began to feel him throb inside of your mouth. You could tell he was close so you moaned softly into his cock, watching as Tom shuddered from the sensation you just sent through him.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck,” Tom cried out, moaning your name as he rutted his hips into your mouth. His pupils blacked as he felt the heat rising in his body, “Shit...I’m gonna cum, Y/N,” he warned as you pulled away, running your hand down his shaft as he began to come undone for you.
His warmth spilled out into your hand and down his cock while he let go finally. The stress somewhat leaving his body as it did yours while the euphoric high peaked for him. Your lips crashed against his while his tongue parted your lips to find yours, tangling them together as he moaned against your mouth while riding out his high finally.
You waited for Tom to catch his breath before you smiled against his lips, placing a small peck against them as you pulled away with an even bigger grin, “Yeah, you’re welcome,” you gave him the same arrogant tone he gave to you moments earlier before you pecked his lips again.
After taking some time to get yourselves together mixed with the continuous fooling around underneath the sheets, you and Tom finally decided to get up and end the night. Even though he didn’t want to leave, he knew he probably shouldn’t overstay. Primarily, Tom was adamant about never spending the night at a girl’s place that he slept with. That made things complicated and he didn’t want complicated. But since you and him had rules to not make things messy, he wasn’t sure if that applied to you. For now, he wanted to play it safe so he got himself dressed again.
You pulled on an oversized t-shirt, realizing both of your hair looked a mess. Luckily you were already home and Tom was down the hall so it didn’t really matter. You wanted to say something to Tom, that you were thankful he came by tonight. You were thankful even before sex was on the table. It felt nice to have him as an ally to swing by with a pizza when he didn’t even know you needed that.
“...is it weird to say I’m glad you came by?” you gestured towards your bedroom while you walked with him out into the kitchen where the half eaten pizza was left, “I know we haven’t really made too many rules about it but…” you trailed off with a nervous laugh as you smiled at him awkwardly.
“Like we said, zero weirdness,” Tom reminded you as he padded his way over to you. He grabbed a leftover crust from the box and shoved it in his mouth, clearly starving already from the workout you had just given him. He smiled while he chewed lazily, his mouth still filled with pizza crumbs, “But I’m happy to come by when we have shit days...and make you cum as well,” he smirked deviously.
The door opened as you smiled back, “Doesn’t have to be just bad days, you know. We could...screw whenever we feel like it,” you told him, hoping that it wasn’t too much.
“Did you just say screw?” he whipped his head towards you with a loud laugh.
“Alright then, I guess I’ll just leave you to the girls who leave you unsatisfied then,” you fought back.
Tom leaned against the door with his mouth gaped open, “They do not...leave me...unsatisfied?” he questioned himself, knowing that that was true, whether he wanted to admit it or not.
“Then why are you here?” you placed a hand on your hip, feeling the smile pulling at your lips while you messed around with him. You certainly weren’t in this mood earlier before Tom came around.
Pressing his lips together, Tom rolled his eye at you, “Fine...we can screw...whenever,” he leaned in closer to you with his eyes big as he mimicked your voice when you said it, “As long as we keep this thing strictly what we intended, you can use me whenever you need, Y/N,” and he meant it.
You didn’t back away when he sealed his words with a soft kiss, paired with his trademark grin. Tom pulled away slowly, taking in the moment as he wished you a goodnight quietly before kissing you against the cheek, “Like I said, best friend I ever had,” he said softly once again.
“Am I interrupting something?” A voice broke from behind the two of you. Both of your eyes widened towards each other as you both simultaneously pivoted your heads towards the staircase where the voice was coming from.
Tom closed his eyes with a groan, pinching the bridge of his nose as he tried to ignore Harrison staring at the two of you with a crooked grin. Making it known to Tom that explaining this was going to be a lot tougher than he had imagined.

Reading the tea leaves from one election in order to predict the next is difficult but not impossible. There are two ways to do it. One way is to look at what the current election tells us about the relative strengths and weaknesses of the likely players in the next election. For that analysis, turn to my colleague Bill Galston’s piece. In it he looks at the likely effects of this election on Biden and on Trump, and he discusses the importance of the Democratic governors races. The second way to look at it is what I will call the “plate tectonics” of American politics. This term was coined by Bill a few years ago in a piece I co-authored with him. It refers to the factors, geographic and demographic, that are constantly moving—slowly—and which occasionally lead to earthquakes.
As Al Gore and Hillary Clinton know only too well, presidential elections don’t turn on the national popular vote but on the electoral vote in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Thus, changes in the partisan makeup of certain states can have enormous effects on the (mostly) winner-take-all systems of awarding electors. Over time, states change their partisan make-up. Although this is a complicated process, most of it is due to people moving into a state and bringing their partisan leanings with them. One of the most stunning examples is Vermont—a state that for most of the 20th century was referred to by politicians in the know as “rock-ribbed” Republican. In fact, Vermont was one of only two states that voted against Franklin Roosevelt in his landslide 1936 election. But over the past decades New Yorkers moved to the idyllic state to escape the city and carried with them their far-left wing politics. So today, Vermont is the only state in the union to have a U.S. Senator who is an independent who identifies as a Democratic socialist, and last night elected Peter Welch to the Senate, making him only the second Democrat to represent the state in that chamber.
Analyzing the plate tectonics of politics leads us to take a careful look at what has been happening in three “purple” states—Arizona, Georgia and Nevada. Arizona used to be a reliably Republican state and yet, to Trump’s surprise and to the surprise of nearly every pundit in America, he lost that state in 2020. Today, it is the fourth or fifth most popular state in the union to move to—based on census data and on very interesting data from the U-Haul company—which tracks moves.
A large number of the people moving to Arizona are from California. For many of them, Arizona offers a lower cost of living, lower taxes, lower housing costs, less traffic, and good schools plus natural beauty.
Not surprisingly there are a lot of Democrats among these California transplants who are part of the reason Arizona has become a very competitive state. The state was solidly Republican for much of the 20th century and in the first six presidential elections of the 21st century. The razor thin margins in 2020 and in 2022 are testament to the changing nature of the state.
Georgia is right up there with Arizona in terms of the number of people moving there. Atlanta has been an economic powerhouse for some time now. As one professor put it—Atlanta is part of the “growth” South not the “stagnant” South. And Atlanta and its suburbs are the center of that growth. People from around the country and the world have been moving there making it the center of Democratic politics in the state. In fact, as Professor Charles Bullock, a political scientist at the University of Georgia says: “We know that the strongest Republican voters are people who’ve been in Georgia more than 20 years… Individuals who have been in Georgia less time are more likely to be Democratic.”
Finally, Nevada, like Arizona and Georgia, has seen in-migration that is making it a more competitive state. Like Arizona, most of the new residents are coming from California. In Washoe County, home of Reno, Nevada, the new Tesla plant and other high-tech businesses are attracting people from the San Francisco Bay area who are bringing with them their famously deep blue politics. Meanwhile, Las Vegas, the state’s largest city, is a powerhouse of job creation, ranking behind only three other metro areas in the United States with the fastest growth in job postings. At the presidential level, Nevada has been Democratic since 2008, and its consistently high job growth seems likely to cement that tendency with voters from California.
Because the plate tectonics move so slowly, we can expect very close presidential and Senate elections in these states in the next few years. However, if the trends keep going, these states may end up as reliable wins in the Democratic column in future election cycles.

HI ZOË!!! angst #16 for that sentence starter post if you're still up for some writing. i love getting my feelings hurt 🤡
"Are you hurt?"
"No."
"Then why are there bruises all over your face?"
—
Kara doesn't have a mean bone in her body.
She waves at every animal she sees on her daily walks and patrols at night. She gives and gives to people without expecting anything in return. When someone is having a bad day or just really needs to talk, she listens, even criminals. Most of them aren't any different than the average person, they simply were dealt the wrong hand. She's extremely loyal and doesn't take anything personally. One time, Kara saved a fly that was trapped in a spider's web.
So yeah, Kara doesn't have a mean bone in her body. Which is why today is such an anomaly.
She's in the kitchen still dressed in her navy chinos and baby pink button up with palm trees from when she came home from work. Andrea made her rewrite an article thrice, Jeremy from accounting had broken the copier machine and politely asked for her help in fixing it, she stopped a bank robbery a few blocks down from CatCo when she realized the police wouldn't get there in time, and to top it all off she unwillingly skipped lunch after someone stole her sandwich from the staff fridge.
To say she was exhausted and starving was an understatement. Changing into her pajamas meant she had to walk all the way to the bedroom and Kara was too lazy, even for superspeed.
As she stirs her homemade tomato sauce she taps her phone screen and checks the time. 6:35 pm. Frowning, Kara doesn't see any missed messages or calls from Lena letting her know she's going to be late.
She shrugs to herself and thinks Lena must've gotten caught up in her lab and lost track of time. It happens more often than not, and Kara doesn't think it'll ever change, much to her chagrin. It's bad enough Lena forgets to eat lunch most days, but to continuously forget her phone and watch in her office? Kara knows her wife's a workaholic, but she wasn't aware until now, the fourth night this week, that it was getting this bad.
Kara strains the pasta and cuts the garlic bread while periodically stirring the sauce and checking her phone. She decides to finally turn on some music when the silence of the penthouse becomes too stifling and daunting.
She's in the middle of dancing to ABBA and plating the food when she hears a familiar heartbeat walking down the hall. Kara tries not to listen to it too often—she doesn't want Lena to feel like her privacy has been invaded—but sometimes she can't help it. Her wife's heartbeat is one of the most soothing sounds she's ever heard, and ever since she heard it for the first time, she's just been naturally drawn to it, like a moth to a flame.
Kara smiles as she hears it get closer until Lena's opening the door and walking through. "Hey, babe! I'm in the kitchen!" she yells, her energetic voice reverberating throughout the house.
There's no verbal response like there usually is, which is the first warning sign. The second is when Lena walks by—she has to in order to go to their room—it's with quick steps and careful avoidance. But Kara's been able to read her like a book since they've known each other, and she knows something's amiss by the way Lena doesn't even greet her with a kiss. She always does.
"Lena?"
Her wife stops frozen in her tracks, head angled down, hair covering her face like a curtain. Lena's heart ticks up a beat, leaving Kara wildly concerned.
"Lena?" she steps around the island and stands in front of her. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," she mumbles.
Kara tilts her head to make eye contact, but Lena moves her head so she can't. "Then why won't you let me look at you?"
"It's nothing, I-I'm fine."
"And why does that not convince me?" Kara sighs. Lena doesn't move a muscle and she keeps quiet. "Are you hurt?"
"No." She still shows no signs of moving. It's like she's decided her next career move is becoming one of those marble sculptures at the museum people love to gawk at.
"Lena...you're scaring me." She tentatively reaches out and grasps Lena's fingers, tremendously thankful when she doesn't pull away. If there's one thing her wife is bad at, it's letting people in. But she also knows when she's feeling stressed or overwhelmed that holding her hand relaxes and grounds her. "Please..."
Finally, after standing there in an awkward and probably painful way with the way Lena's neck is positioned, she slowly looks up. Kara audibly gasps when she sees her, and what she sees ignites a fire in her chest and a fury in her eyes. "If you're not hurt, then why are there bruises all over your face?"
"Kara.."
"Lena," she breathes and lifts her hands to gently cup her face, tears pooling in her eyes. Her breathing is significantly more ragged than before, and she mentally takes note of why that is. "What happened?"
"It's nothing," she repeats.
Kara frowns and backs away, crossing her arms. "Who did this to you?"
"Please, Kara. I don't want to make a big deal—"
"Who?" her voice is lower and angrier, sending chills down Lena's back. She grits her teeth, "Lena, tell me who did this to you now, so I can kill them."
"Kara, this isn't you," she reaches forward to calm her down, but Kara starts pacing.
"The hell it isn't!" Kara exclaims, fists clenching at her sides. "My wife was beaten for all I know, and she's acting like it's just another day at the office!" she gestures at Lena, exasperatedly. "How would you expect me to act?"
Lena flinches at her tone.
Kara notices, because she always notices when Lena's in distress, and she deflates. "Lena, you're the love of my life, my person, and when you're hurt I can't help how I act. I'm sorry if I seem like I'm overreacting or if I'm yelling, but it's you." She walks back into her space and places her hands over Lena's face, thumbs lightly grazing her cheekbones, careful not to bump her wounds. "It's you," she whispers.
Lena swallows thickly, and when she speaks her voice is soft and afraid. "It was an accident."
"Did someone do this to you?" Kara's jaw clenches as she lets go. She doesn't stray far though, crossing her arms in front of her chest to try and calm down.
"Kara, no," Lena sighs, tears pooling in her eyes. "I...I did it to myself."
"What?" Kara's arms drop to her sides. "What are you talking about?"
"I was in a board meeting," she clears her throat. "Um...I was presenting a new prototype for...for," Lena shakes her head and frowns tensely. She rubs her eyes with tight fists and with a shaky breath, she cries, "Kara, I—I can't remember!"
Kara steps forward and grasps her hands. "Hey, it's okay. Take your time." She rubs soothing circles over her knuckles with her thumbs.
Lena takes a deep breath and tries again. "I was in a board meeting, and I vaguely recall getting a terrible migraine. Everything after that is fuzzy," she sniffles and takes her hands back to wipe her eyes. "Jess said I fell and hit my head on the table on the way down."
Kara inhales shakily, "What?"
"I had a seizure, I guess," she says it with a slight lilt at the end like it's a question she doesn't want answered. "Uh, it lasted about five minutes until the paramedics arrived. They said I was lucky I wasn't doing something else, like driving. It could've been a lot worse."
"Why didn't you tell me? Why didn't anyone call me?," Kara looks at her with pleading but sorrowful eyes.
"I didn't want you to worry."
"We promised each other, remember?" squeezes her hands. "For better or worse," she says with all the conviction she has. Kara kisses her knuckles and asks, "What did the doctors say?"
Lena sniffles and bows her head. "They ran all these tests on me, but couldn't find anything serious as to why I had a seizure. It could be any number of things, but they can't really do anything for me until I have another one," she looks up at her wife, lips wobbling.
"Kara, I'm scared," she whispers. "This is—" her words catch in her throat, and it's hard for her to breathe. "This is—my mom," she cries hysterically, covering her mouth with her hands, "This is how my mom died, she—she had a seizure while she was in the lake and she drowned. I can't—I can't believe this is—this is happening," she hiccups into another sob.
"Shhh," Kara envelops her in a hug and rubs soothing hands along her back. Lena bawls uncontrollably into her neck, hands gripped tightly to the back of Kara's shirt. "I'm so sorry, Lena," she kisses her on the head and murmurs into her hair, "We're gonna figure this out, I promise."
"What if I have what she had?" Lena questions, voice muffled and watery. "Kara...I don't wanna die," her mind begins to fill with thousands of different scenarios and she spirals into a panic, her whole body shaking, "I don't wanna die, Kara!"
"Honey, no," Kara hugs her tighter, as much as she can without harming her, then pulls back and kisses her on the forehead. She pointedly looks into her eyes when she says, "You're not dying. Okay? Not today, not anytime soon, alright?" Lena's face is red and splotchy. She tries to reign in control of her emotions, and she exhales a shaky breath while managing to give a slight nod. "Good. We'll figure out what's wrong with you, and if we can't do that here, then...we'll go to Argo. Their advances in science are way ahead of Earth's, and if that's not enough then I'll personally travel to other earths or other planets until I find a solution. You're not going anywhere if I have anything to say about it."
"Promise?"
Kara palms the underside of her jaw and rests their foreheads together, Lena's puffs of breath hitting her lips. "I promise," she presses their lips together in a chaste kiss and mumbles, "I love you." Kara kisses her again, "More than anything."
"I love you, too," Lena replies and buries her face in Kara's chest, her arms wrapped around her waist tight and what would be restricting if not for Kara’s invulnerable body. A calming minute passes for them in the aftermath of Lena's breakdown, when Lena quietly asks, "Is something burning?"
Lena feels her wife stiffen in her arms. "Shit!"
She pulls back and raises her eyebrows curiously, an amused glint in her eyes as she asks, "Did you just swear?"
Kara extracts herself from Lena's hold and stutters, "N-no, I said sh-sheet," she fumbles over to the stove and turns off the burner. Kara leans over the pot and frowns at the wreckage.
Lena chuckles with such fondness it's almost like their previous conversation has been forgotten. Kara beams at the sound, one of the reasons she fell in love with Lena in the first place; that girl can make laughter sound like music. Even her out-of-control snort laughs are adorable. At least to Kara's ears.
"There's no point in denying it, love, I heard you loud and clear," Lena smirks and joins her in the kitchen, poking her in the side. Kara squeals and feigns hurting by falling to the floor dramatically.
Lena playfully rolls her eyes and holds out her hand. "Baby, get up, the floor is a mess." Kara easily obeys and jumps to her feet with barely any help from Lena. "I married a weirdo," she shakes her head.
"Do you regret it?"
"Never," Lena states firmly. "You're my weirdo, forever."
"I like the sound of that," Kara blushes. Even after being married for five years, and knowing each other even longer, Lena still possesses the ability to fluster Kara on a daily basis.
"C'mon, let's order Chinese."
"You're speaking my language!" Kara kisses Lena on the nose and watches with pure affection as it scrunches. She grabs the takeout menu from the junk drawer before twining her fingers through Lena's and snuggling with her on the couch.
No matter her diagnosis, not matter the outcome, Lena will be more than okay with Kara by her side.
