Welcome to the Dungeons of Fear and Hunger.
#Fear and Hunger#D'arce Cataliss#Cahara#Ragnvaldr#Enki Ankarian#Unlike Dungeon Meshi - I cannot in good faith recommend this game to a broad audience.#My background with F&H goes as follows: I am hanging out with a friend. He says “hey try this game I've been playing.” I say “Okay!”#I have never heard of this game. I pick the mercenary. I go through 5 min of character history and background. I am mauled to death by dogs#It took me 4 resets to even get in the dungeon. But I finally get there. I am caught by a guard. He cuts off all but one of my limbs#I am forced to crawl around in a blood and corpse pit until the game tells me 'give up idiot'.#I reset. I am mauled by dogs again. I realize this is not for me but I am intrigued enough to go home and watch some playthroughs#And WOW what an interesting game it is! I really do appreciate games that blend their design philosophy with the theme it wants to set#This is a game about fear and hunger. And persevering. And penis (my god is there a lot of penis)#I recommend this to people who like extremely challenging games and can handle the many *content warnings* within this series#If the idea of Bloodborne/eldenring and undertale having a little RPG maker baby sounds appealing to you - give it a shot#It's made by ONE GUY and it's a great horror game. I am just really bad at it.#My friends just enjoy putting me in situations where I scream and yell. We don't talk about the corn mazes. Or the other horror game nights#Apparently I'm funny when I'm Scared!#As people who follow me on twitter might know; I am deep in the pits of this series right now. I will be back with more art.

seriously though, Alan Becker's Animator vs. Animation series is fucking legendary and for good reason. don't let the fact that all the characters are stick figures delude you into thinking it's a joke. AvA and its spinoff series, AvM (Animation vs. Minecraft) are both well written, complex stories with well-rounded characters and complex arcs that take themselves completely seriously and are also masterclasses in 2d and later 3d animation.
both series include original soundtracks mainly composed by Scott Buckley and they now have a full team of professional animators working on them, even though the project was started by just one guy (Alan). despite having zero lines of dialogue, they clearly and masterfully characterize every single character that's involved by depicting their body language and actions alone. there is love and dedication poured into all of these projects and it shines through in every second of playtime.
also, these feature some of the most jaw dropping choreography and visual effects in fight scenes that ive ever seen in 2d animation ever. the one in AvA s2 alone is higher quality than most fight scenes in almost all modern professionally made movies, in my opinion. alan and his team consistently push the boundaries of what can be done with animation both visually and conceptually and they never fucking miss. like ever. this shit goes so hard
in conclusion: just trust me on this one

Jake x Reader (f)
Warnings: themes of grief, cursing, alcohol abuse
Find All Parts Here
Six Months Later
It had been months since the accident. Everyone tried their best to be there for Jake and be of comfort, but nothing could ease the pain of losing you. After the funeral, Jake became a recluse. Never leaving the house you’d once shared. Drowning his sorrows in bottle after bottle of whiskey. He roamed the empty halls and rooms. In a doomed search for you.
Days had gone by with no contact from Jake. So, Josh got in his jeep and headed over to the house to check on him. As he pulled into the driveway and parked, he looked up at the house. What had once been a house full of love and life, now sat lifeless and dark. Curtains drawn in every window. Cobwebs appear in corners all along the veranda. Fallen leaves cover the steps. All a reflection of its owner.
Taking a deep breath, Josh opened the door and stepped out of the jeep. Shoving his hands in his pockets, he walked up to the front door and knocked. After several failed attempts to get Jake to come and open the door for him, Josh reached up and felt along the top of the door frame until he felt the cold metal of the spare key. Taking the key, he unlocked the front door and stepped inside.
The inside of the house was freezing. No light illuminated the house. Rubbing his arms for warmth, Josh closed the door behind him. He called out Jake’s name with no response. Slowly, he made his way through the house. Room after room, he searched the first floor before climbing the stairs.
Reaching the second floor, Josh goes to check the bedroom when he hears the clinking of glass come from the direction of the library. Turning his attention to the direction of the sound, he walks to the library door and slowly opens it. As the room comes into view, Josh is shocked and pained by the image of his brother.
Jake sits slumped in your favorite chair. He’s surrounded by empty bottles and dirty glasses. The room is completely destroyed. Books are torn and scattered. Bookshelves half empty or busted. Paintings you’d hung, smashed and ripped apart. Broken glass and broken furniture litter the room. Only the chair he sits in seems to be intact.
His hair matted and greasy. His beard is sparse and grown out. His eyes, glassy and empty. Jake sits, one hand clutching something to his chest and an overflowing glass of alcohol in the other. He doesn’t even seem to notice Josh’s presence. Lost in a world made up of his grief.
“Oh Jake.” Josh whispers, pain in his voice.
Josh cautiously walks toward Jake. Trying to avoid empty bottles and already broken glass. When he reaches Jake, he reaches out to lay his hand on his shoulder.
“You know this was her favorite place.” Jake suddenly speaks, scarring Josh. “If I couldn’t find her anywhere else, I knew she’d be in here. Curled up in this chair, reading a book and listening to music.”
Josh goes to say something, but Jake speaks first. “I came in here the other day. I woke up and she wasn’t in bed with me, so I came in here to find her–”
Tears well up in Josh’s eyes.
Choking on his own tears, Jake continues. “She wasn’t here. She wasn’t– She isn’t here. She isn’t here! She should be here! Where is she, Josh?”
The tears run down Josh’s face and he looks up at the ceiling trying to think of something to say.
“She’s supposed to be here. She’s supposed to be with me. She swore– She–” Jake’s body shakes as he lets out a cry of pain. Grabbing on to Josh, he buries his head into Josh’s stomach and sobs uncontrollably.
Josh cradles and rubs Jake’s head. “I know. I know. She’d have been here. She would have stayed if she’d had the choice.” He chokes out.
“We were– We were getting married. We were supposed to live until we were old. I– I can’t do this without her.” Jake cries.
“You can Jake. You have to. She wouldn’t want this for you.” Josh tries to say.
“You don’t know that! You don’t know anything!” Jake screams, shoving Josh away. “Get out! Just get the fuck out!”
As he stumbles back, Josh trips over an empty bottle and crashes into one of the bookcases. The air is knocked out of his lungs.
“Jake. I’m not leaving you.” He gasps out.
Jake hears this and throws his glass at Josh, barely missing him. “I said get out!” He booms.
“No!” Josh yells back.
Josh marches over to Jake, avoiding the punches that are being thrown at him. Wrapping his arms around Jake, he drags him out of the library and down the stairs all while Jake thrashes trying to escape his grasp. When Josh reaches the final step, Jake breaks free and stumbles, falling onto the floor.
“Jake! You can’t keep living like this!” Josh yells. “You can’t keep shutting yourself in this house. Living surrounded by the constant reminder that she’s gone! It isn’t healthy. Come stay with me for a while. Please! We can’t lose you too. Please Jake!”
Jake stands and runs his hands through his hair. Tears stream down his face. In a moment of clarity, he nods his head. Relief washes over Josh.
“Come on, let’s go then. I’ll come back and grab what you need later.” Josh says, putting his arm around Jake to lead him to the door.
Suddenly, Jake stops in his tracks and starts patting his pockets and frantically looking around.
“Where is it?” He asks, terror in his eyes. “Where is it! Her necklace! I just had it, where is it?”
Josh’s brow furrows and he starts looking about them for this necklace. He sees nothing.
“Jake, I’ll find it when I come back. Let’s just get you out of h–” He’s cut off by the sound of Jake running back up the stairs.
Turning, he follows his brother.
Jake races ahead and runs back to the library. Panicked, he searches for the last piece of you he has. He falls to his knees and searches the floor, cutting his hands on the broken glass and splintered pieces of wood.
Feeling nothing, he continues his desperate search.
Josh enters the room moments later and sees Jake crawling around and leaving trails of blood behind him.
“Jake! Stand up! You’re hurt!” He shouts.
Consumed in his search, Jake doesn’t hear him.
“Jake!” Josh yells once again.
Seeing Jake not listening, he rushes over and pulls him to his feet.
“Let me find it! I’ll find it. I promise.” Josh says.
Jake, eyes crazed and full of tears, just nods.
With that, Josh leads Jake to the door and has his stand there, knowing Jake won’t go anywhere else until your necklace is found. Flipping on the light switch, the room is illuminated and Josh goes to look for it.
He walks over to where Jake had sat and bends down, searching the floor. He finds nothing. Then he turns to retrace his and Jakes steps from when he’d drug Jake out of the room. Something glistens in the light and catches Josh’s eye.
Laying next to a torn book of poetry is your necklace.
Josh walks over and picks it up. He holds it up for Jake to see. Jake’s features relax and fresh tears fall. Josh walks over to him and holds it out for him to take. Jake goes to take it when Josh is reminded of the cuts on his brother's hands. Yanking his hand back, he says, “Here.” and places the necklace around Jake’s neck.
It falls just above where his necklace of old coins sits.
Jake gingerly lifts the pendant and stares at it.
Josh takes his brother by the shoulders and leads him to the bathroom. “Come on, let’s get you cleaned up and then get out of here.”
Josh cleans up and bandages Jake’s hands while he sits in silence. Once his hands are taken care of, they leave the house.
Jake never returns. The house that was almost home sits empty. Still filled with everything you’d left behind, all of it collecting dust. Everything but the necklace. The necklace never leaves Jake’s neck. A reminder of what almost was. A comfort that some day, somewhere, in some form he’ll be led back to you.

Tell me why Kara Zor-L is one of my your favs! I'm been meaning to make the jump from the CW show to the comics. Any recommendations?
- @cicero-in-gotham
@cicero-in-gotham oh i would LOVE to!! Kara Zor-L is my darling beloved.
firstly for suggestions, i'll be honest Kara can be... a hard character to read for. you have to slog through a lot of really shitty "male gaze" content to get scraps of interesting stuff. the top comics i'd recommend are
Power Girl: Power Trip
Power Girl Returns
Power Girl (2023)
some people like Harley Quinn & Power Girl. i'll be honest... i did not. and Power Girl (2009) has... ups and downs, is the nicest way i'll say it. but it's also solid for what it is. certainly better than her New-52 content so i can't really complain.
anyhow, i always am enamoured by characters who are disconnected from their "family", especially due to trauma. bc no one really counts Power Girl as part of the Superfamily. and even within the Superfamily if people are talking about the "outcast" of the family, they always say Kon. (which, eh? maybe New-52!Kon but i wouldn't say the main Kon is an outcast, his issues are internal) but to me, Kara far better suites that role. it's one thing to be one of the last survivors of Krypton. it's another thing to be one of the last survivors of your entire *universe* as well. she lost everyone, *twice*.
i adore characters who feel like imposters and Kara is *peak* imposter syndrome. everything about her identity is constructed around not feeling like a "real" Super, or a "real" Zor-L. she has to live with knowing she's on an earth that has Supergirl, meaning they don't need her. she didn't wear the S crest for so long even on her own earth, because she felt like she didn't server it.the only thing she feels like she has going for her is her sexual appeal and so it's so amped up she lacks a personality outside of it. she has been isolated again and again by her trauma and she struggles to face her grief, masking with humor and oversexual appearances. i find that to be so interesting. she lost *everything*, twice. and now she's an imposter who will always hold herself at a distance from the Supers because she doesn't want to make them uncomfortable with her existence. she has to live on an Earth and know everyone is... slightly off. she has Clark, but it's not *her* Clark. she has the Justice Society of America, but it's not *her* JSA. and she doesn't have her best friend, Helena Wayne at *all*, because this earth has Helena Bertinelli as Huntress. (unless you count New Golden Age stuff but that's future timeline nonsense)
i find Kara's lack of identity interesting, and the way she just sort of drifts. she has done a lot of things, but lacks a sense of self importance bc she will never view herself as a "real" Kryptonian of this universe. she's just so neat to me. i also love the JSA personally, they're one of my favorite superhero teams, so i love any character connected to the JSA, they're always so underrated.
the Power Girl Special (which is collected in Power Girl Returns) is like, genuinely one of my favorite single issues ever. that comic just lives in my bones. it also has one of the *best* internal monologues i've ever read. something something comics are art. this is cutting some stuff out but just to show you have beautiful the writing is, this is an excerpt from that comic
people tend to think of hatred as love's opposite. but i disagree- i think hatred is just love's sharpened edge. it's the same passion. the same potency, the same intensity. just a different flavor. so no, hatred isn't love's opposite. grief is. grief is the void left behind after something you once loved was violently ripped away. grief is what happens in love's sudden absence. love is when your cup runneth over. but grief is hollow. a chasm. there is no negotiating with grief. it does what it wants to you, when it wants. you will never outgrow or outrun it. but... you can find ways to grow around it. i never got to say goodbye. i was loved, once. i was once loved so much that my life was prioritized above all else. i will never feel worthy of that love or sacrifice. but i'm realizing now that to freeze or falter in the shadow of that love is the only way to fail their sacrifice. i have to live in the light. i can step out into the sunlight, and still carry them with me.
like that is??? so Character to me. she is Everything. i'm just. so unwell over her internal struggles and how she faces the world, i cannot recommend her enough. she means the world to me and that comic has stuck with me since i read it for it's conversation about handling grief. i am begging everyone to be a Power Girl fan i know she's confusing but once you get the hang of her backstory she's so cool i swear-

One of the things I like most about Sharp Objects is the way it does flashbacks. It conveys memory and the pasts of the characters so creatively, it doesn’t smash-cut to the past or re-play clips whenever they need to show a character remembering something, it weaves the sounds and images together in a way that flows. As a viewer, it makes me feel like my intelligence is being respected and that the makers of the show trust the viewer enough not to spoon feed them information and create a really clunky image

go watch gran hotel right now if you haven’t, I’m currently watching it and am completely addicted. it’s a spanish show but just as enjoyable to watch with english subtitles, and has everything you could want in a period drama tv show - mystery, amazing lead romance, morally gray characters, and so much family drama you can’t keep track of it all. please please give it a shot, I desperately need people to scream about this show with 🙏🙏
(psst and if you can’t find it to stream anywhere there’s a google drive with all the episodes on r/tv_bunny that I have a link to)

The Unbelivable Gwenpool
Tumblr media
The title is perfect because this comic, is unbelivable.
My first introduction to this series was the comicstorian videos by Benny Potter (rip). His video's got me invested in the character, and eventually deadpool himself.
Reading the actual run, as intended though. It was a wild, electric, wholesome ride. I loved every aspect of this comic, from the casual galavanting across the marvel universe, to the series original character's and especially Gwen Poole, in all her pink, pantless glory.
All in all this series is for everyone who loves comics. Whether your a die hard, or an up and comer in the space, this run is a treat.

Rewatching Kizazi Moto and holy shit it's so good. I beg you, if you haven't seen it already, please please watch it. I promise you will not be disappointed.
On a very related note, episode two, Mkhuzi: The Spirit Racer is definitely a pilot episode and I desperately hope it becomes its own series. That episode is one of the best single episodes of any series I've seen and I so badly want to see more of that world.

Go go go cutscene cutscene cutscene!!!
been thinking about one of my favorite undertale fics lately, it’s like. the best undertale fic to me if not the best fic on ao3 period. i liek it so much. it’s the scientist series by talkingsoup and i will Never stop talking about like i Know i have mentioned it before but i am physically incapable of shutting up about it. it’s so good. i once tried to get my best friend to read it even though she doesn’t know english but i tried to convince her to read it with google translate (it didn’t last long but it was worth the effort). it’s So Good. i discovered it in like 2018 or 2019 and have reread it at least two times since it’s just like AUEHGGHHH. gaster’s downfall and then him haunting the narrative … the exploration of sans’ backstory …… the characterizations ………. it’s all very well written and also very dark and traumatic. They make Shit happen to these characters. but it gets better. i think ? i have never finished the series because iirc it only finished around a year ago and i haven’t reread it since. but i am Thinking about it. it’ll probably take me months because 1. i have to come to terms with the fact that one of my favorite stories will be Finished(tm) 2. i have to hype myself up to reread it because it’s a very long series with like 400k words or something AND the second installment is verrrry dark and heavy considering it explores the whole reset bullshit and flowey is putting sans through 29263937 meatgrinders
